Hey, just wanted to ask for any recs on Latino historical literature in Spanish? Mainly looking for Puerto Rican outside of the broad history you know? I find good things in English but I want the lens in Spanish. Or if you have a tag of anything you've read I can go through? Thanks In advance!
hello! you are in luck because right now I'm back home in PA where I have access to my giant latin american literature anthology! I'm going to give some authors below who are from PR with a piece of writing of theirs to check out, and also give some authors who I enjoy who aren't from PR. Not all of these are "historical" literature, but many write poems and short stories based off real life events/lived experience, which I find just as informative as a book like Open Veins of Latin America, which is very non-fiction historical.
KEEP IN MIND: some of these authors use language that is 1, outdated and 2, offensive, but these words are justified in the context they are written in and speak upon racial tensions experienced at the time of writing (i.e, one of Martin Espada's poems is called "n word-lips"). Please be compassionate toward the authors listed here!
PR authors:
Ramon Emeterio Betances (Arriba, Puerto Ricans!; 1800s), Eugenia Maria de Hostos (League of Puerto Rican Patriots; 1800s), Lola Rodriguez de Tio (The Song of Borinquen; late 1800s), William Carlos Williams (Libertad! Igualdad! Fraternidad!; late 1800s), Jesus Colon (Grandma, Please Don't Come!;1900s), Jose Davila Semprit (The United States; 1900s), Julia de Burgos (Ay, Ay, Ay de la Grifa Negra; 1900s), Pedro Juan Soto (Spiks; 1900s), Piri Thomas (The Konk; 1900s), Esmeralda Santiago (When I was Puerto Rican; 1900s), Martin Espada (Revolutionary Spanish Lesson; 1900s), Maria Teresa "Marisposa" Fernandez (Boricua Butterful; late 1900s)
Other authors:
Jose Marti (Our America; late 1800s), Eugenio Florit (In the Big City; 1900s), Arturo Islas (The Rain God; late 1900s), Isabel Allende (Paula or Casa de espiritus; 1900s), Julio Cortazar (la noche boca arriba; 1900s)
Some of these folks I have read and some I haven't. Have fun!

This is the 2005 Christmas Station ID of GMA. The Christmas Station ID was themed “Kapuso, Ikaw ang Star ng Pasko”.
The Christmas Station ID Theme Song was sung by Martin Nievera, Sharon Cuneta, Janno Gibbs, Jolina Magdangal, Gary Valenciano, Pops Fernandez, Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez featuring the Christmas Carollers from GMA, the original cast from the TV5 sketch comedy show Goin’ Bulilit and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra. The Christmas Station ID was shortened due to the video. Starting in December 1, 2005, The song “Star ng Pasko” can be heard in DZBB Radyo 594 and various radio stations nationwide where it was extended. Somehow, This Christmas Station ID occurred before Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez’s wedding in December 24, 2005.
The Christmas Station ID contains Martin Nievera who is riding on a Jeepney featuring the crew members, Heart Evangelista, Erich Gonzales, Dimples Romana, Kim Chiu, Xian Lim, Enrique Gil, Liza Soberano, Ken Alfonso, Janella Salvador, Zoren Legaspi, Arcee Muñoz, Alice Dixson, Tuesday Vargas, Ritz Azul, Eula Caballero, Paolo Bediones, Sharon Cuneta, Piolo Pascual, Janno Gibbs, Mike Enriquez, Alvin Elchico, Jessica Soho, Amelyn Veloso, Karen Davila, Cheryl Cosim, Anthony Taberna, Henry Omaga-Diaz, Sunshine Dizon, Isabelle Daza, Cesar Montano, Gabby Concepcion, Ogie Diaz, Arthur Solinap, Elmo Magalona, Jojo Alejar, John Lapus, Kristine Hermosa, Arjo Atayde, Victor Silayan, Neil Perez, Jayson Gainza, Dino Imperial, Eric dela Cruz, Terence Baylon, JM de Guzman, Jeric Gonzales, Albie Casiño, Chad Kinis, AJ Perez, Jerome Ponce, Michael V., Allan K., Edu Manzano, Jericho Rosales, JC de Vera, Martin Escudero, Gerald Anderson, Sef Cadayona, Edgar Allan Guzman, Renz Fernandez, Kokoy de Santos, Hero Angeles, Luis Manzano, Matteo Guidicelli, John Prats, Ces Oreña-Drilon, Carmina Villaroel, Eugene Domingo, Nora Aunor, Carlos Agassi, Gelli de Belen, Janice de Belen, Dolphy, Christopher de Leon, Vic Silayan, Diether Ocampo, Aga Muhlach, Derek Ramsay, Rafael Rosell, Onemig Bondoc, Mark Herras, Coco Martin, Joseph Bitangcol, Zanjoe Marudo, Paolo Contis, Eric Fructuoso, Patrick Garcia, Jake Cuenca, Cedrick Juan, Nonie Buencamino, Leandro Muñoz, Mark Lapid, DingDong Dantes, Enchong Dee, Lloyd Zaragoza, Ahron Villena, Wendell Ramos, Carlo Muñoz, Dominic Ochoa, Eddie Gutierrez, DingDong Avanzado, Rene Hawkins, Pen Medina, Ping Medina, Alex Vincent Medina, KC Concepcion, Meg Imperial, Carlo Aquino, Lovely Abella, Janine Gutierrez, Ruffa Gutierrez, Joyce Jimenez, Charlene Gonzales, Angel Aquino, Cherie Gil, Christian Vasquez, Jomari Yllana, Joem Bascon, Edwin San Juan, Eric Quizon, Epy Quizon, Richard Gutierrez, Raymond Gutierrez, John Lloyd Cruz, Jodi Sta. Maria, Richard Yap, Richard Gomez and his wife Lucy Torres-Gomez, Roxanne Guinoo, Maricel Soriano, BB Gandanghari, Dawn Zulueta, Mariel Rodriguez, Krystal Reyes, Toni Gonzaga, Camille Prats, Jennylyn Mercado, Pooh, Pokwang, Valerie Concepcion, Lourd de Veyra, Shawn Yao, Mico Halili, Eula Valdez, Gloria Romero, Claudine Barretto, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, Kim Atienza, Charo Santos-Concio, Cherry Pie Picache, Judy Ann Santos, Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, Ryan Agoncillo, Vhong Navarro, Teddy Corpuz, Billy Crawford, Jess Lapid Jr., Dan Alvaro, Keempee de Leon, RK Bagatsing, Isko Moreno, Gardo Versoza, Neil Ryan Sese, Gian Magdangal, Cris Villanueva, Janus del Prado, Brad Turvey, Carlo Gonzales, Raymart Santiago, Long Mejia, Ronnie Ricketts, JP de Guzman, Albert Martinez, Mel Martinez, Marvin Agustin, Ian Veneracion, John Arcilla, Jolo Revilla, Bong Revilla, Paolo Ballesteros, Oyo Boy Sotto, McCoy de Leon, Jhong Hilario, Kris Aquino, Maine Mendoza, Catherine Bernardo, RJ Padilla, Arnell Ignacio, Bembol Roco, Dominic Roco, Felix Roco, featuring child actress Angelica Panganiban who is an original cast member of Goin’ Bulilit. The Christmas Station ID features the Spice Girls, the Star Circle Quest heroes from TV5, South Korean boy band BigBang in their pre-debut, Wayne Allwine with his wife Russi Taylor who are the true voices of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, the characters from Disney’s Blues Clues, the supergroup Bravo All-Stars, DJ Lance the Dinosaur from Sesame Street and the original cast of Goin’ Bulilit like Alex Gonzaga, Cristine Reyes, Andrea Torres, Nash Aguas, Valeen Montenegro, Barbie Forteza, Glaiza de Castro, Louise Abuel, Martin del Rosario, David Licauco, Vince Gamad, Lianne Valentin and more including and president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who turns on the Christmas Lights and hugs Angelica Panganiban at the very end. Sadly, Fernando Poe Jr. and Mark Gil don’t appear in the 2005 Christmas Station ID because Fernando Poe Jr. died in September 11, 2005 of leukemia and Mark Gil died in November 11, 2005 due to a respiratory failure.
But eventually, This was the only Christmas Station ID of GMA to feature the crew from ABS-CBN, GMA and TV5. But somehow, The clips will look different in the 2010 ABS-CBN Christmas Station ID which is “Da Best ang Pasko ng Pilipino” where the other crew members arrive in the house of Ryzza Mae Dizon. Luckily, Martin Nievera can create a portal that could transport other crew members into other dimensions.
Somehow, Arcee Muñoz, Alice Dixson, Tuesday Vargas, Ritz Azul, Eula Caballero, Derek Ramsay, Coco Martin and Maricel Soriano moved to TV5 in 2005. But Ryan Agoncillo, Vhong Navarro, Teddy Corpuz, Billy Crawford, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola, Paolo Ballesteros, Oyo Boy Sotto and Judy Ann Santos moved to ABS-CBN in 2005.
