Hi so I, as I've previously stated, ❤️ your Grell and would *really* would like to know your take on her "loves" and whether there's any real feelings there or she's just fucking around/flirts w/ ppl for the hell of it. I've always thought it was the latter except for when it comes to Will (Grelliam sucker aghhh) but I'm curious to know what you think re: Grell & love
@raistlin-supafly-majere
Grell loves everyone and no one
Grell’s real tricky about love tbh…a huge ass flirt but rather duplicitous about any true feelings. Grell will fuck ANYONE but love…it’s hard, and it’s rare…
I feel like the closest Grell’s gotten to any stable form of love is with Will, who he did end up genuinely admiring and caring for. He saved William’s life after all! If that ain’t love…
Grell’s also had a romance with Madam Red, and that was definitely not truly love I feel, but much more twisted and manipulative, leading to a likely pretty abusive relationship…but there was love there as well–wild and intense and painful and awful, psychotic love, but it was not unconditional as it had been for William. Grell saved William’s life, despite whatever William said or did or was, even after stating that the boy was essentially worthless due to his average grades. But Grell did not save Madam Red–and in fact killed her because his psychotic love grew too strong for an image that Madam Red simply couldn’t uphold in the end–not unlike that stalker character’s upset with his idol in the movie Perfect Blue.
check out this link if you want more in depth analysis on my previous point, but Grell’s obsessive love for Madam Red was essentially for her image, for what she portrayed for him–bloodlust without attachment. But when she showed attachment towards her nephew and prioritized it over her violence, Grell suddenly found that his idol was doing something wrong–not behaving how his idol should. And for that, she had to be terminated, for she had perverted an icon that he came to worship.
As for William, their relationship contained none of this, and while some may use this argument for Sebastian and Grell as well, Grell never saved Sebastian’s life, nor ever really tried. Of course, he didn’t have many opportunities given that Sebastian is an overpowered Mary Sue, but every and any opportunity Grell had to hurt, maim, or even nearly kill Sebastian, he took, meanwhile with William he literally saved Will’s life.
