The Oreca factory is directly next door to the circuit so replacement tubs shouldn't be a concern. While looking at potential replacements for future rounds (A certain Porsche factory driver maybe?) I was reminded of the FIA categorization system. Why the hell are there two driver grading systems?

Not just the tub tho is it - brakes and onboard systems and fifteen thousand other little parts that will be supplied from all over. I really hope they can get them but I just want to be clear that lack of drivers is not their only problem, right now, in terms of running. 

They had to break more of the car to get Katherine out, according to a source at the circuit so it’s likely there’s basically not a lot left on it, engine included, that’s usable. I’m not saying it’s impossible but rebuilding a full car in a few days is the sort of job that eg: the Aston Martin factory Le Mans team were amazed they managed with a GT after the tub cracked on one of theirs last year. With reduced personnel on top of the generally sparser staffing of ELMS in the first place, this is going to be a monumental challenge to the team. 

De Silvestro could be an option - she’s never raced prototypes, however. I’m sure she could but it might be a hell of an ask in a team unlikely to get any testing time, now. 

Michelle Gatting, who drove alongside Legge in Asian Le Mans Series - or other teammate Margot Lafitte, who has on her side that she is French so unlikely that she’d face any travel restrictions in getting to Paul Ricard, would be more likely choices if they decide to stick to women racers. Which, given everything, I think it would be wholly understandable if they didn’t for this one race, to ensure the car got to run. 

Edit: wait, I did not answer the driver grading system question. I’m not sure I understand? Do you mean the difference between the endurance ratings vs the Superlicense? 

(endurance rates all drivers gold, silver or bronze with superlicense holders and certain sorts of winners getting platinum)

In endurance terms it’s just because you all need the same license (if you’re not good enough to get the relevant license you can’t be on track, even as an amateur) but you need to differentiate between people for whom that’s their biggest achievement and for whom it’s a formality, to balance teams fairly and make sure there are enough opportunities for the drivers who fund that kind of series to have successes. 

So the good news is, as Katherine is gold there are a lot of good drivers to choose from - it might actually be much harder to get a relevantly-experienced driver of a lower category. 

Or possibly I misunderstood, sorry!

Annalee Lafitte

Annalee ‘Annie’ Jane Carter was born February 9, 1903, to Francis and Marie Carter. She had one older sister, Margot Anne, and a younger sister, Julianna Sydney.

Annie grew up in a very opulent mansion on the outskirts of Lafayette, as her family was very rich, and had been for many decades.

Their money mostly came from plantations before the Emancipation Proclamation, and as such, Annie was not a huge fan of her family’s legacy.

She was very much a wild child, and went against everything a rich young woman was expected to be, absolutely hating the stuffy lifestyle she was supposed to conform to.

When she was 25, her father held a party in the mansion and hired several young men from town to work at the party, mostly as waiters.

This was when Annie first laid eyes on Benny Lafitte.

As she never was able to find the time to speak to him, she believed it was a missed opportunity to speak to the handsome young man she’d been watching the whole party.

At least until a few days later, when their cook sprained her ankle and Annie volunteered to fetch the ingredients for dinner from the market, where she ran into Benny at the fishmonger’s stall where he was working.

After Annie’s awkwardness subsided, they struck up a conversation, which almost got Annie in trouble when she took way longer than she should have to come back from the market.

After that, they started meeting in secret whenever they could.

Annie knew her father would not approve of Benny, as he always emphasized his daughters were to marry up, not down, and Benny was much further down on the social ladder than she was.

She however was smitten with him, feeling seen and listened to for the first time in her life. She could voice her frustrations about the way she was forced to live, and not worry about getting in trouble. She could be open and honest, and know that Benny was actually listening and cared about what she thought and said, and didn’t just see her as a trophy wife.

So, they eventually planned for Benny to ask for her hand in marriage.

When the day came however, Francis Carter adamantly refused to grant Benny his blessing, claiming he would never agree to let his daughter marry the son of a drunkard and a whore.

Annie and her father got into a fight because of this, and a couple minutes after Benny had left out the front door, Annie merely stormed upstairs, grabbed her things, kissed her sister Julianna goodbye, and followed Benny out the door, despite her father’s promises that she would never be welcome back in his family if she did so.

Benny and Annie were married later that day, September 8, 1929. They took Benny’s boat and had a short honeymoon in New Orleans, before they returned back to Lafayette to raise money for a house, finally able to buy a small farmhouse in Carencro.

On July 25, 1930, their son Casey was born, and two years later in February 6, 1932, their daughter Georgia was born.

They lived a relatively normal life, until the night of November 26, 1939. Casey and Georgia were staying with a friend, leaving Annie and Benny alone in the house.

That night, Benny was jumped in the marsh next to their property, but fought back and thought nothing of what had happened, figuring the blood in his mouth was from getting hit.

However, he was turned that night, and completely out of his mind, drained and killed Annie in her sleep, gone before he even came to his senses and saw what he’d done.
