La verità sul caso Harry Quebert (Joel Dicker)

Titolo: La verità sul casa Harry Quebert.

La verità sul casa Harry Quebert racconta di Marcus, uno scrittore sulla trentina affetto dalla malattia del “non-so-più-scrivere” (quindi il blocco dello scrittore) e decide di andare ad Aurora, dal suo più grande amico e maestro Harry Quebert. Proprio in quel periodo, viene a sapere che Harry viene arrestato per sequestro di persona e duplice omicidio, di una vecchia signora e di una ragazzina di quindici anni scomparsa – di nome Nola - avvenuto trentatrè anni prima. Essendo convinto dell'innocenza dell'amico, Marcus comincia a fare delle ricerche per scarcerarlo e trovare il vero assassino.

Devo essere abbastanza franca in questa recensione, ed un po’ mi duole dover scrivere un'altra recensione negativa dopo quella che scrissi su “La zona morta” di King, ma non ho altra scelta. Benchè sia cominciato pure bene, ispirandomi fiducia e pensando “a sto giro ho beccato quello giusto”, andando avanti con le pagine ho trovato questo libro piuttosto noioso, melenso, pieno di sdolcinature che nemmeno Nicholas Spark con i suoi romanzi rosa. Mi sono chiesta più volte, mentre leggevo, dove fosse il fattore “thriller” e se non fosse più propenso chiamarlo “romanzo rosa con un accenno di giallo”. Va bene, una ragazzina di quindici anni scompare per trentatrè anni, se ne trova il cadavere e cominciano le ricerche e le indagini. Va bene. Ma che scopo hanno tutti i ricordi sdolcinati? Che scopo hanno i dialoghi melensi? Che scopo ha portare Marcus in cielo come se fosse chissà quale Dio? Perchè quel che si evince da questo libro è che Marcus è la persona più speciale, la persona più brava, la persona più intelligente, la persona più bella, la persona più geniale, la persona che sa scrivere meglio di tutti. Marcus è la persona più in tutto. Esattamente come lo era stato Harry trent'anni prima, in quanto Nola lo riteneva il più bravo, intelligente, geniale, scrittore di tutti i tempi. Il romanzo scritto da Harry era il più bello che fosse mai stato letto Il romanzo di Marcus era il più bello di quel periodo. Il secondo – scritto come una serie d'appunti, quindi non proprio un libro – viene identificato come la migliore scrittura di tutti i tempi. 

Penso che sarebbe potuto essere un thriller migliore se si fosse evitato di essere troppo prolissi. Infondo non servono settecento pagine per definire dei fogli un libro. Quello che conta - a mio modesto parere - è sempre il contenuto, che siano solo cento pagine o settecento.  Quindi, per concludere, il libro è pieno di esagerazioni su tutti i piani, di dramma esagerato, di amore esagerato, di “ti-porto-in-cielo” esagerato. Un libro che, per altro, è stato esageratamente recensito come miglior Thriller.

E magari son qui a scrivere una recensione esageratamente negativa, quindi fatemi sapere i vostri pensieri.

Helsinki Seagulls kaatoi keskiviikkona Korisliigassa Uudenkaupungin Korihait. Voitto merkittiin Kisahallin kotijoukkueelle lukemin 80–73.

Peli oli sarjataulukon ääripäitten, ykkösen ja hännänhuipun, välinen kohtaaminen – sellaisenaan neljäs ja viimeinen tällä kaudella. Aikaisemmista Gulls oli voittanut kaksi.

Seagulls taistelee yhä tiukasti runkosarjan voitosta, vaikka talvi onkin ollut sille haastava. Viikko sitten se otti ison voiton Salon Vilppaasta vieraissa. Ennen sitä se oli hävinnyt rumasti Pyrinnölle ja Katajalle.

Uusikaupunki voi puolestaan keskittyä jo putoamiskarsintaan, sillä se on hävinnyt 15 kertaa putkeen. Korihait voitti Seagullsin 30. marraskuuta ja katkaisi tuolloin helsinkiläisten 11 ottelun voittoputken.

Sen jälkeen joukkue ei ole voittanut peliäkään. Korihaitten onneksi Korisliigasta ei tällä kaudella putoa kukaan suoraan, kun liigaa laajennetaan ykkösdivisioona A:n voittajalla.

Toisella neljänneksellä kotijoukkue terävöityi molemmissa päissä. Ensin Carl Lindbom lämmitti ryhmänsä donkilla ja kolmosella. Sitten Alex Vaenerbergin johtama penkki toi peliin kaivattua energiaa. Helsinkiläiset johtivat tauolla 40–32.

”Olimme alkuun vain katselemassa, mitä tapahtuu. Pelistä oli tulossa vaikea”, Seagulls-päävalmentaja Mikko Larkas kommentoi. ”Hyökkäyksessä ei ollut mitään hätää, mutta .”

Seagullsin maajoukkusentteri Gerald Lee junior ei pelannut kasvattiseuraansa Korihaita vastaan.

Valentine’s Day, Harlem Style Our 10 Restaurant Picks

One of our favorite events to celebrate is Valentine’s Day!  It’s right in the middle of February (the 14th to be exact), and is fun for everyone….couples, singles, kids, or people that just want to celebrate a great night out in the middle of winter when Spring is still a few months away. 

Below are the Halstead Harlem Office’s agent’s  choices for the best restaurants to go to in West Harlem and East Harlem, and why they like them. 

1. B2 Harlem located at 271 West 119th Street- The Krantz and Krantz Team rave about B2’s  sophisticated and lively ambiance,  plus the great drink menu which include craft beers, wines and delicious cocktails. Small and romantic setting. 

2. Vinateria located at 2211 Frederick Douglass Blvd- Mika Jones loves the superb steak entrees, and the delightful service.  Always on point, the restaurant exudes charm. They also have small, medium and large plates to choose from. And of course, and impressive selection of wines from around the world. Vinateria is also offering a special dinner menu on Valentine’s Day. 3. Cheri of Harlem located at 231 Malcom X Blvd (AKA Lenox Ave). This is a classic French Dining experience with an eclectic décor.  Often the patrons are entertained by a wonderful  Jazz singer, Lady Leah.  It is a “True Labor of Love.”

4. Jado Sushi located at 2118 Frederick Douglass Blvd. This restaurant features authentic Edomae sushi for the connoisseurs. The sushi is of  the freshest and best quality fish which is shipped daily from regional markets.

5. Minton’s, located at 206 West 118th Street. Angie Hancock owner of Experience Harlem recommends Minton’s with gusto. Known for its great Jazz, Minton’s was a legendary Jazz club where the likes of Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, and Ella itzgerald often performed.  Thanks to businessman Richard Parsons, Minton’s has been beautifully reimagined  with an intimate  and romantic setting, and an impressive menu. Check out their Valentine’s Day Special Event!

6. Barawine, located at 200 Lenox Avenue. Serving an impressive menu of soups, salads, small plates, and of course a great wine list featuring over 25 wines by the glass, and over 200 wines by bottle. Mark Tamayo recommends it, and frequents them regularly.  They are also  having Valentine Day Specials. 7. Harlem Tavern located at 2153 Frederick Douglass Blvd (at the corner of 116th St) for fun  is having a fun  “Anti- Valentine’s Single’s Night. The drinks are called “where is Becky now,” “We are all Friendzoned,” and “The Death of a Bachelor.”  DJ in playing that night  from 7pm to 1am.   8. Ricardo’s Steak House, located at 2145 2nd Avenue, in East Harlem. Always a great favorite, since 2004, Ricardo’s has enjoyed a steady stream of patrons that adore the family environment, excellent food,  attention to details, and fabulous service, bar none.  This  is one of Michael Coker’s favorite places to enjoy the fabulous food and great environment that only East Harlem can offer. 9. Nocciola located at 237 East 116th Street, this East Harlem eatery is famous for its freshly made pasta.  The menu features classic Italian specialties with an extensive wine and beer list.  Tasha Trice recommends this restaurant highly.

10. Downstairs in Red Rooster is one of New York's best kept secrets: Ginny’s Supper Club. This classic Harlem speakeasy is a feast for all senses! Join Chef Marcus Samuelsson’s world renowned cuisine and cocktails and legendary live performances in a space that will transport you back in time.
