Lukadrien: Zebras Canât Change Their Stripes: Chapter One
Read it on AO3: Zebras Canât Change Their Stripes: Chapter One
A whole week had passed since The Breakup, and Luka was still reeling.
âYou brought this upon yourself,â he reminded bitterly as he rolled over and found the space on the bed next to him empty and cold.
He kept telling himself, âYou broke up with herâ, âIt was the right thing to doâ, and âYou couldnât keep waiting for her to move on. That wasnât healthyâ, but the words never quite sank in.
One week later, he was even more of a mess than when heâd finally gotten the courage to break things off. The pain of being without her, knowing that it was really over, was worse than having her by his side knowing that she was thinking about someone else when she kissed him.
At least before heâd had a place in her heart, even if it was only second.
With a groan, Luka pushed himself up to sitting and grabbed his phone off the nightstand.
There was a text from Juleka berating him for drinking too much, not returning her texts, and taking crap care of himself.
Rose had also sent him a message reminding him about family dinner that Sunday.
Jacob, the bassist from his band Eternal Nocturne, had texted him not to be late for the auditions for a new lead singer that afternoon.
Luka cursed, setting his phone down without replying to anyone. He scrubbed his face with both hands and then forced himself to kick the covers off and get up.
It was already almost noon, and the mature, adult part of his brain knew that he had to get his stuff together. He was twenty-six, and heâd been through breakups before. He would survive this one as wellâŠeven though it didnât feel like it at the moment.
He pushed himself out of bed and began to search around for something clean to wear.
He really needed to do laundry. And the dishes. And the grocery shopping.
Luka winced as he uncovered a lacey pink bra with white polka dots under a pile of jeans that reeked of alcohol and stale bar smell.
He needed to make a breakup box, put all of her leftover things in it, and send it back to her.
His heart sank at that realization, the finality of it.
He put the bra back under the jeans and promised himself heâd deal with it later. When he was feeling betterâŠ. Whenever that happened to be.
The important thing just then was to find something that could pass as clean so that he could get to the audition and not let his bandmates down. He was already disappointing himself and his family. He needed to do right by somebody at least.
 Adrien was screwed.
Heâd been back in Paris for two days, and, already, his funds were almost entirely used up. Heâd found a cheap hostel in Pigalle where heâd been able to shower and get a decent nightâs rest without having to worry about anyone bothering him, but he wouldnât be able to stay there for much longer unless he found work.
That was turning out to be much harder than anticipated. In Paris, people were a lot stricter about having to have valid identification to secure employment. They were also a lot more persnickety about hiring Adrien Agreste, even if it was just to wash dishes, clean hotel rooms, or wait tables.
Maybe he could talk to the owners of the hostel about working the front desk. Heâd done that before in Nice and Lyon.
If the situation really got dire, he could always try to find someone like Nino from his past who would be sympathetic and maybe let him sleep on a couch or something until he could get back up on his feet again.
He didnât want to do that, but it was beginning to look like he had no other choice. It had been four years since his fatherâs arrest, four years since Adrien lost his family, his fortune, and even the ability to use his own name. Heâd thought that maybe people would have cooled off and moved on, that it was safe to come back to Paris, back homeâŠbut it wasnât looking like it so far.
He was starting to think that it had been a mistake to return, but he couldnât bring himself to regret it. He was tired of roaming the country and scraping by, and he couldnât go on like that any longer. He wanted to establish roots and make a place for himself. He wanted to feel grounded again.
He was determined to figure things out and make it work, and if that meant going door to door to every restaurant, shop, and hotel in Paris until he found a job, thatâs what he was going to do. He was through running away; it was time to settle down and make a life for himself.
He wasnât sure what that life would look like, but if it included years of hard work, a partner who saw him and not his fatherâs crimes, some children who inherited his motherâs smile, and a pet or two, Adrien would be content.
He just had to find a job first so that he didnât end up on the street nicking food out of restaurant dumpsters again.
As he descended the steps into the MĂ©tro, a flyer advertising auditions for a lead singer for a band caught Adrienâs eye.
He stopped and studied it, noting that auditions had begun twenty minutes prior at a bar just a few blocks away.
He grabbed the flyer and took off at a jog.
âNo oneâs coming,â Jacob grumbled half an hour into the audition time when it became apparent that not a single soul was going to show up.
âDoesnât look like it,â Josie the drummer agreed, tipping back on her barstool so that it balanced precariously on two legs. âSo, what are we going to do without a vocalist?â
âYeah, weâve got that gig coming up this weekend,â Jacob reminded, chewing anxiously on his bottom lip.
Josie and Jacob both looked to Marcâguitarist, keyboardist, and the bandâs unofficial leader/mum.
âJosephine, donât do that; youâre going to fall,â Marc sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. ââŠI mean, I can cover lead for one night.â
âWhoâs going to do your backup vocals, then,â Josie demanded, setting her stool legs back on the ground.
âLuka can,â Marc informed.
Jacob snorted. âLukaâs drunk.â
âLuka is not drunk,â Marc growled defensively. âHe knows better than to show up drunk. Heâs just hung over, isnât that right, Luc?â
âYes, and Iâm nursing a killer headache, so if we could take the volume of the talking down a few decibels, it would be greatly appreciated,â Luka groaned, pulling his newsboy cap down a little further to shield his eyes from the bright light emanating from the stage where the people auditioning were supposed to be performing.
âAnd whoâs going to do Lukaâs backup vocals?â Josie persisted, lowering her voice out of consideration for Luka.
âI donât know. Jacob?â Marc suggested uncertainly.
Josie let out a bark of laughter. âJacob canât walk and talk at the same time. How is he supposed to play and sing?â
âJosie,â Marc scolded. âBe nice.â
âNo, sheâs got a point,â Jacob cut in. âIâve walked into poles before because I didnât see them because I was talking to someone. Multitasking really isnât my strong suit.â
Marc opened his mouth to reply, paused to consider his words, and then shut his mouth.
âExcuse me?â a new voice called out.
The band turned their heads to find a thin, scraggly young man standing in the doorway.
He had scruffy, wild blonde hair and piercing peridot eyes, and it was impossible to say how old he was exactly. He looked young, but he had one of those ageless faces that could have just as easily been twenty as forty. His clothes had been expensive, good quality when they were new, but now they were well-worn and showing their age.
âAre auditions over already?â he inquired, taking a tentative step into the bar.
The door closed behind him, and now that he wasnât backlit by the daylight pouring in from outside, Luka could see him clearly.
His eyes widened as he recognized his former crush whom he hadnât seen in four long years.
âNo, weâre still going,â Jacob informed.
âYou here to try out, Kid?â Josie asked with a big smile, turning on her stool to face him.
Adrien nodded, holding up the flyer in his hand. âI just learned about the audition, like, ten minutes ago, so I donât have anything prepared in advance, but Iâm a good singer with a pretty expansive range. Iâm a quick study too, so, if you teach me, Iâll pick up your songs right away.â
âAll right,â Marc agreed with a grin. âGo ahead and take the stage, and weâll see what youâve got. Whatâs your name?â
âĂmile,â Adrien responded with a smile as he took his spot in front of the microphone. âĂmile Dupain.â
Luka frowned.
Surely, he wasnât mistaken. The years had changed Adrien, yes, but he wasnât that different. Luka knew that face, those eyes, that smile.
âNice to meet you, Ămile,â Marc greeted amicably. âIâm Marc. I play keyboard and some guitar depending on the song. I also do backup vocals.â
âIâm Josie. Percussion,â Josie took over. âThis idiot is Jacob, our bassist,â
Jacob gamely raised a hand. âSup.â
âand Mr. Doom and Gloom over there is Luc,â Josie completed the introductions. âHe plays guitar and does backup vocals. Ignore him for right now. He just broke up with his girlfriend, so heâs kind of in a funk. Normally, heâs the nicest person, so give him another week and youâll be best friends.â
âThank you for broadcasting all that, Josie,â Luka grumbled as he waved at Adrien, just waiting for him to recognize Luka.
He worried that if Adrien were trying to conceal his identity, he wouldnât appreciate the reunion, but a part of Luka hoped that Adrien would be excited to see him again. Luka was certainly happy to see Adrien.
âItâs nice to meet you all,â Adrien replied, friendly expression not changing in the slightest. âWhat kind of music do you guys usually play?â
Luka fought down a tsunami of disappointment at Adrien not seeming to recognize him.
âUsually alternative or punk,â Marc supplied, not appearing to notice the way Luka slumped in his chair. âWe mostly do covers, but we have our own songs too. Our next show is Saturday, but weâll just be doing covers for that one, so it shouldnât be too hard for you to get up to speed if we decide to hire you.â
Adrien nodded. âSounds good. Iâm a hard worker, so Iâll get the music memorized right away and be ready for the show.â
âHave you ever been in a band before, Ămile?â Josie inquired curiously.
âYes,â Adrien answered with confidence. âIâm a little out of practice at the moment, but I played keyboard and did a little bit of backup vocals.â
âWhat kind of band was it?â Marc asked.
âUhâŠthe genreâs called kawaiicore, if youâve heard of it,â Adrien informed, shifting his weight from one foot to the other.
Jacobâs forehead furrowed in concentration as he tried to recall. âIt sounds familiar, but Iâm coming up blank. Whatâs kawaiicore?â
âYou know when I showed you Babymetal?â Luka reminded.
Jacobâs face lit up, and Josie started to nod too.
âLike Kitty Section!â Jacob exclaimed.
âYeah!â Adrien perked up. âThatâsïżœïżœâ
He cut himself off and went pale when he realized that telling them that he had been the keyboardist in Kitty Section was just as good as revealing his identity.
âThatâs right,â Adrien completed. âLike Kitty Section. I can do other genres, though. I can sing anything: musical theatre, opera, jazz, popâwhatever.â
âSo, what will you be singing for us today?â Marc prompted, very interested in seeing what Adrien would come up with.
âWell, Iâve kind of been living under a rock lately, so Iâm not exactly up on whatâs popular now,â Adrien hedged. âI mostly listen to music in Japanese, so maybe I could just sing something so that you can see if my voice is a good fit for you guys, and then you can give me a list of songs you usually do so that I can memorize them.â
âSounds fair,â Josie replied with a shrug. âSo, what are you going to sing?â
Adrien bit his lip and took a deep breath, scanning his mind for a song that would show off his abilities.
âDo you know Charles?â Luka spoke up. âThat was popular a couple years ago. If you know that one, I could play the guitar part along with you.â
Adrien had been the one to introduce the song to Luka, and theyâd played it together with Kitty Section with Adrien doing the main vocals. Luka still played that song from time to time when he was feeling nostalgic.
On stage, Adrienâs eyes widened in surprise. âUhâŠyeah. Yeah, I know Charles. Itâs one of my favourites. You wouldnât mind?â
He narrowed his eyes, trying to get a better look at Lukaâs facial features, but the hat blocked Adrienâs view, and it was difficult to discern Lukaâs face clearly in the dim lighting of the bar when contrasted with the blinding lights on stage.
âIâd be happy to,â Luka assured, reaching down to grab his guitar off of the amp where it lay.
âThank you,â Adrien replied with a big smile that made Luka positive that he hadnât been mistaken about âĂmileâsâ identity. âReady when you are.â
Luka counted them in and began to play.
Adrien blew the band away with his vocals. His voice was smooth and lyrical, gliding over the notes like a swan across a pond.
âHe has really clear intonation,â Marc hummed softly in approval to his bandmates after listening to Adrien sing for a bit.
âAnd he wasnât lying about his range,â Josie chuckled as she drummed out the rhythm on her thighs and danced in her seat.
âI certainly canât hit those notes,â Jacob laughed.
âNeither can I,â Josie snorted. âWell, maybe on a good day, but not the way he does. He just shoots all the way up there and drops back down again like itâs nothing.â
âItâs so clean too,â Marc added. âHis voice doesnât crack or squeak or waver or anything. He hits those notes dead center, and then he stays there until itâs time to move to the next note.â
âI think we struck gold,â Jacob snickered.
âHeâs super cute too.â Josie smirked deviously. âHeâs sure to attract a crowd. We just need to put some eyeliner on him and get him in leather pants, andââ
ââDistracting me,â Luka hissed quietly so that he wouldnât interrupt Adrien.
Jacob waggled his eyebrows as he whispered, âWhat? Imagining Ămile in leather pants?â
âJacques,â Luka warned testily.
âHeâs totally your type, though,â Josie joined in helpfully. âI think a new romance is just the thing to get you over your breakup.â
âJacob, Josephine,â Marc called quietly but firmly. âLeave him alone.â
Josie and Jacob both held up their hands in a placating gesture and let the subject drop.
Luka redoubled his focus on his fingers, trying to banish the thought of Chat Noir from his mind.
âWaraiatte sayonara,â Adrien finished softly and then looked to the band for their judgment call.
Jacob started clapping, and Josie wolf-whistled.
âCan we do that song sometime?â Jacob directed at Marc. âI bet the bass part is killer.â
âYeah!â Josie cheered. âI canât wait to get my drumsticks on that.â
âI donât see why we couldnât,â Marc agreed and then turned back to Adrien with a smile. âYou really can sing. That was great.â
âYou think so?â Adrien asked with a breathless giddiness, starting to squirm in excitement.
âDefinitely,â Luka assured. âYou sing like an angel.â
âMake him sing something else,â Josie demanded of Marc who had the grace to blush.
âJosephine, I canât just make him sing for us,â he sighed and then looked to Adrien. âWould you mind singing something else?â
âNot at all,â Adrien easily agreed, eager to please.
He needed the job desperately, and if he could get paid just for singing, that was certainly easier than anything else heâd done for money the past four years.
âUmâŠlet me think of something else I could sing for you,â he mumbled, chewing on his lip as he wracked his thoughts.
ââŠDo you know Ranbu no Melody?â Luka suggested. âThatâs another one I could play along with you, if youâre familiar with it. I only know the minute and a half that was used as the Bleach opening theme song, though.â
âYeah, I think I remember how that version goes,â Adrien fibbed.
Luka and Adrien had watched portions of Bleach together, and Adrien had sung along with all of the openings. If Luka still remembered the guitar part, surely, Adrien remembered the lyrics.
Luka counted them in again, and Adrien proved not to have forgotten at all. He sang with every ounce of confidence and enthusiasm that he had back when theyâd been teenagers watching anime together.
It was reassuring for Luka to know that, even though Adrien might have changed in the years theyâd been apart, there were some things that remained the same.
âHow do you know all this weeb music, Luka?â Jacob wondered.
âThe Boy was a total anime nerd,â Luka explained with an affectionate smile.
Jacob and Josie let out soft âOoooohâs and started to nod.
The Boy was practically a mythical figure at this point in their friendship. Luka had talked a lot about The Boy over the years, just like heâd talked a lot about The Girl. Luka had dated many people and loved a small handful, but no one had penetrated so deeply into Lukaâs heart as Adrien and Marinette.
ââŠHeâs really good,â Marc observed, visibly delighted as he listened to Adrien. âHe puts a lot of emotion into his voice, and I am loving it.â
âYeah,â Jacob chimed in. âI have no idea what the hell heâs saying, but I feel it, Man. Itâs intense.â
Lukaâs smile turned melancholy as he remarked, âIf I remember correctly, the song is about soldiering on and taking on whatever difficulty is in front of you and then carrying those experiences forward to present them to the person you want to spend your life with. Itâs kind of likeâŠweâre the sum of our experiences, and the singer hopes that the person they love will accept them anyway, even though theyâve got cracks and jagged edges in places.â
âWow,â Josie whispered. âThatâsâŠdeep.â
âThatâs what I got out of it, anyway,â Luka quickly added. âThe Boy translated it into French for me, and then I kind of interpreted it artistically, taking some liberties, but thatâs what I got out of it.â
âI like this song,â Jacob decided, tapping his foot along. âI like this kid.â
âWeâre adopting him,â Josie decreed.
âYeah.â Jacob nodded resolutely. âI need to get him to show me more weeb music. I feel like Iâve been missing out.â
âWooo!!!â Josie cheered loudly as Adrien finished. âWe love you!â
âSing more!â Jacob encouraged as he clapped.
A blush spread across Adrienâs cheeks like fire catching on dried grass.
He rubbed at the back of his neck and looked to Marc for instruction, sensing that Marc was the leader of their little circus.
âI think it would be good if we all played something together to see if we mesh well as a band,â Marc decided. âWould that be okay with you, Ămile?â
Adrien nodded enthusiastically. âYes, of course.â
Jacob turned to Luka. âWhat song does he know that we could all play?â
Luka shrank, semi-hiding behind his guitar. âWhy are you asking me?â
âYou did the psychic thing with the songs in Japanese,â Jacob reasoned with a shrug. âDo it again.â
âYeah,â Josie urged, reaching across Marc to poke Luka. âDo it.â
âI donât know,â Luka grumbled. âHow about This is Gospel? We play that one sometimes.â
And he had taught Adrien how to play it on guitar, so maybe Adrien remembered the lyrics.
âI know that one,â Adrien offered.
âAwesome!â Josie trilled, jumping down from her stool and heading over to the stage to join Adrien.
Once she reached him, she pulled him into a crushing hug.
It was kind of cute. Josie was a statuesque six-foot-two, and Adrien was only five-eight. (Five-ten with shoes on, he used to always insist, sensitive about his lack of height.)
âHi. Weâre adopting you,â Josie informed him as she pulled back with a grin and then abruptly turned on her heel and headed for her drum set.
Marc shook his head, getting up and making his way to the stage to turn on his keyboard.
âJosephine, donât scare the poor kid,â he chastised wearily.
âIâm not!â she insisted. âIâm being friendly!â
Marc placed a hand on Adrienâs shoulder as he passed, assuring, âShe means well. If we ever make you uncomfortable, just say something, okay?â
âItâs fine,â Adrien assured, wiping at the tears beading at the corners of his eyes, hoping that Marc couldnât see. âIâm justâŠIâm not used to people being so friendly. I donâtâŠpeople donât hug me. Ever.â
Marc frowned at that, his mum senses kicking in. âDo you like being hugged?â
Adrien nodded.
âOkay then.â Marc didnât even hesitate as he pulled Adrien in for a hugânot a guy hug with a pat on the back, but an honest to goodness hug.
He pulled back with a smile, instructing, âJust let us know whenever you want a hug, okay? Youâre family now. Family get hugs whenever.â
Adrien had to actually bite his tongue to hold in a whimper. He couldnât find his voice to reply, so he nodded and rubbed away the tears that were quickly taking the previous onesâ place.
âIâll give you a hug in a minute, Kid,â Jacob assured, picking up his bass. âIâm just lazy, and Iâm already set up over here.â
âSame,â Luka latched onto Jacobâs excuse, figuring that now wasnât the best time for a reunion with Adrien.
Josie counted them in and started the heartbeat-like rhythm that began the song.
Adrien took a deep breath and sang.
The full sound of the band all playing together resonated powerfully through the bar, giving Adrien chills.
It wasnât perfect. The timing was a little off in places, and Adrien needed to learn his cues if he was going to sync up with the others. They needed to work out the backup vocals and other little things to make the performance come out smooth, but they were starting in a good place. They could polish this up and make it shine.
It felt good to be playing with a band again. Adrien hadnât realized how much heâd missed making music with others, being a part of a team.
Heâd been so alone these past four years.
Partly that was his own fault. Heâd run away both literally and figuratively and shut people out who otherwise would have been there for him. Heâd let pride and shame and fear of rejection winâŠand now he was finally realizing how exhausting it had been.
Now that these nice people were opening up to him and accepting him into their little family, it finally dawned upon Adrien that heâd been foolish to try to make it on his own for so long. He hadnât realized how draining it had been until heâd been offered the chance to rest.
He needed to call Nino and reconnect.
He needed to find Marinette and apologize for giving up his Miraculous and taking off because heâd been overwhelmed after his fatherâs arrest and hadnât felt worthy of being Chat Noir.
He needed to fix things, fix his life.
As the song came to an end, a feeling of calm and peace settled over Adrien.
He was still broke and not sure where his next meal was coming from or if heâd have a roof over his head in the intervening days between now and the show on Saturday when heâd presumably get paid, but, oddly enough, he felt a little better about things.
âWe killed that,â Jacob preened as he set down his bass and went over to join the others on stage. âExcellent work, Kid,â he announced, pulling Adrien into a hug.
âIâm guessing I got the job?â Adrien hazarded a guess, looking around at his bandmates for confirmation.
âOh, definitely,â Josie assured. âYou know that one meme? âIâve only known Ămile for twenty minutes, but if anything happened to him, Iâd kill everyone and then myself.ââ
Adrien cracked up, beaming. âI donât think anyoneâs ever felt that strongly about me before.â
âPoor boy. And now heâs stuck with us,â Jacob snickered, giving Adrienâs hair a tussle.
âLetâs exchange contact information so we can get ahold of you,â Marc suggested. âAre you available tomorrow? Weâre going to need a lot of rehearsal time between now and Saturday in order to be ready.â
âYes. Iâm available,â Adrien quickly confirmed. âI donât have a phone, though, so if we could communicate by email, that would be great. Iâm le chat de la princesse de la nuit on gmail. All lowercase and run together.â
âYeah, no problem,â Marc assured, getting out his phone and opening up a new email. âIâll email you all of our numbers and emails so you can get in touch with us. Iâll email you again later with the place and time. Itâll probably be Phantasmagoria over in the eighth arrondissement. You know it?â
Adrien nodded. âI had a friend whose band played there. He used to sneak me in before I turned eighteen.â
The fond smile on Adrienâs face gave Luka some hope that maybe he was still a good memory for Adrien and that Adrien wouldnât be too upset when he realized just whose band he had inadvertently joined.
It didnât occur to Adrien until later to wonder if Luka still played at Phantasmagoria and if Raoul the bartender still worked there and would recognize Adrien.
âGood,â Marc chuckled. âIâm glad you know it. Like I said, Iâll confirm place and time later this afternoon.â
He then turned to Luka. âHey, Rich Boy. Would you mind picking up a phone for Ămile? Itâs going to be really inconvenient if we canât get ahold of him.â
âYou donât have to do to that!â Adrien looked frantically between Marc and Luka. âIâll-Iâll pay you back when I can. I promise.â
âDonât worry about it, Angel,â Luka assured with a kind smile as he got up and started to put his guitar away. âMy bio dad got hit with a huge dose of guilt a few years ago for never bothering to find out I existed let alone pay child support for me, so Iâve got a ridiculous trust fund that I donât know what to do with now.â
Adrienâs brow furrowed, and he wanted to protest out of principle, but even he had to acknowledge that it would be really useful to have a phone, and he was too down on his luck to afford one.
âThank you. I really appreciate it, Luc,â he replied with sincerity.
âSure thing.â Luka smiled, giving Adrien a wink and doing an internal victory dance when Adrien smiled back at him.
ââŠWell, I guess if you guys donât need anything else from me, Iâm going to head out,â Adrien excused himself politely, starting to make his way towards the door. âIt was lovely meeting you all.â
âYou too, Kid!â Jacob assured, and Josie seconded the sentiment.
âWeâll see you tomorrow, Ămile.â Marc waved him off. âBe safe.â
Adrien returned the wave and turned to go.
Luka bit his lip, debating with himself.
âWhatâs that face youâre making?â Josie snickered, coming back to perch on her barstool.
âYou should go ask him out to coffee,â Jacob suggested as he came over, making a shooing gesture at Luka.
âJacob will babysit your stuff for you,â Marc volunteered.
Luka looked to Jacob, and Jacob shrugged.
âWe all want you to start feeling better soon,â Josie explained, giving Luka a soft smile. âSpending time with someone new will be good for you.â
âJust donât come on too strong so that you scare him off,â Marc cautioned. âDonât do that heart-song stuff. Heâs a good kid, and we need him for Saturday.â
Luka rolled his eyes, handing his guitar to Jacob. âThanks, guys, but this isnât a romantic thing.â
âUh-huh,â Josie agreed disingenuously, a cat-that-ate-the-canary smirk pulling at the corners of her lips.
âHave fun,â Jacob snickered.
Luka shook his head, making for the door.
He looked back and forth once he got outside of the bar and just happened to spot Adrien turning the corner.
He raced after him, slowing down as he began to catch up because he figured the last thing Adrien needed was someone he didnât recognize barreling towards him and making him think he was in danger.
He decelerated into a walk and took a few deep breaths before calling out, âAdrien!â
Adrien froze, every muscle in his back going tense as he slowly turned.
âIâm sorry. I think youâve confused me with someone elââ he started to say but then stopped short as he got a good look at Luka in the light of day without his cap obscuring the view.
Adrienâs eyes widened, his cheeks lost all colour, and his mouth dropped open.
âLuka?â he breathed, his heart stopping in his chest.

Cannes Film Festival 2019: Best Dressed
Forget the Met Gala everyone, real ones know that the Cannes Film Festival is the fashion event of the year! In part because it lasts for 12 whole days so thereâs more content to sit there in my pyjamas analysing but also because itâs way less hyped up and thus less likely to leave you disappointed, a fate Iâve now resigned myself to with the Met. For almost 2 weeks, the richest, most out of touch people in the world spend their days looking pretty on a red carpet and judging films; I should be grossed out, but itâs more a case of just wishing I was there. So I present to you a collection of my favourite looks!Â
Winnie Harlow (left), in Jean Paul Gaultier here, was one of my stand outs this year. Yes, I remember her from Americaâs Next Top Model and yes, Iâm going to blame the edit, because LOOK AT THAT FUCKING STANCE. Iâm in awe. This is my favourite look of hers this year (mostly because of this particular moment) but itâs the first of a few Iâm going to bang on about. On the right is Priyanka Chopra in Georges Hobeika, complemented by the walking accessory that is Nick Jonas.
Priyanka and Nickâs daytime looks were beautiful too (left), and if youâre not paying attention to the Cannes daytime looks YOU SHOULD. Stefanie Giesinger (right)âs outfit is sleek and crisp and effortless and everything I want to emulate but also a lot more accessible than the average red carpet look.
Similarly, here we have Izabel Goulart (left), Caroline Daur (both of the middle looks), and Chloe Sevigny (right), out and about in Cannes all looking elegant (I mentally pronounced that RuPaul saying eloquent) as fuck. I imagine a lot of these pieces cost more individually than I will ever have collectively in my bank account at one time, but there you go. I imagine they could be replicated for a lot less.
But, letâs go back to the red carpet so we can talk about Winnie Harlow again, lmao. I desperately want to know who her stylist is because her Richard Quinn dress (far left) complements her skin tone perfectly AND the accessories are PERFECT, which Iâm impressed by because I feel celebrity stylists often tend to go over the top in that regard. Winnieâs Ralph and Russo look (far right) also flawed me; @ mystery stylist, I bow down. Elsa Hosk reminded us all that gloves can be subtle and looked as ethereal as ever in a white, puff sleeved Redemption dress (second to right) and the things I would do for Maya Henryâs Ralph and Russo dress (second to left) are unholy.
Of course Georges Hobeika, Zuhair Murad and Gimabattista Valli (invented the phrase Holy Trinity) dresses made an appearance, and I internally weeped as saving photos of them to my phone is the closest Iâll probably ever get to owning one. Left to right here we have Ana Beatriz Barros in Hobeika, Valery Kaufman in Zuhair Murad, Bianca Brandolini dâAdda in Giambattista Valli x H&M (more on that in a minute), and Shanina Shaik in Georges Hobeika too.
See, it was a good day for the Giambattista Valli x H&M collaboration because Kendall Jenner (far left) wore one of the dresses too, and it was probably her most iconic Cannes moment, not counting those photos of her and Bella Hadid laughing in rich on that yacht. Ultimate Victoriaâs Secret model (trash company but it has given us some goddesses, letâs be real) Adriana Lima also looked phenomenal in Ester Abner, and Natasha Poly (second to left) and Josephine Skriver (far right) were born to wear Atelier Versace and Alberta Ferretti, clearly. The shade of Josephineâs lipstick is a beautiful touch.
Honestly, these were my initial 3 favourite looks of the whole festival. Iâm a simple girl, Iâll pretty much lay down my life for anything blue or tulle, so obviously, Alina Baikova in Zuhair Murad (left) is one of my favourites. For the same reason, minus the blue part, I adore Araya Hargateâs Ralph and Russo dress, and CAN WE TALK ABOUT ELLE FANNING (right)!? The poor girl feinted after one of her red carpets and we could have a whole conversation about how fucked up it is that a sample size was so tight on a very slim woman that it caused her to lose consciousness, but for now, Iâm just going to commend her for her services to fashion because itâs almost 1am and I need to get some bloody sleep. Regardless, the finishing touch of the flowers in the hair make this my favourite of Elleâs Cannes looks, and the dress is by Valentino.
More red carpet stand outs were, from left to right, Pixie Lott (yes, I didnât know she was still doing her thing either but power to her, despite the fact Mama Do plays approximately 73 times a day at my work) in Yanina Couture, Madison Headrick in Ashi Studio Spring 2019 Haute Couture, and Michelle Rodriguez in Rami Kadi.
Farhana Bodiâs (far left) was stunning in a cobalt Atelier Zuhra gown, as were Hina Khan in Ziad Nakad (second to left) and Chris Lee in Gucci (far right). I kind of live for witnessing a lavender pixie cut a la vegan, marxist twitter on a stuffy red carpet, and I will also take a reprieve from this breakneck speed to congratulate DJ Kiddy Smile (second from right) for doing what Harry Styles shouldâve at the Met. This is spitting in the face of toxic masculinity, men, not wearing a sheer blouse; your endless supply of pink suits canât save you from our criticisms forever (I like Harry Styles, this is a joke, please no one hurt me).
Next we have, from left to right, Diana Penty in Nedo by Nedret Taciroglu, Elle Fanning again stepping on all our necks in Dior, and on the far right, Eva Longoria in Alberta Ferretti. Now, 3 things: firstly, I stupidly saved the 3rd photo without including a note of who she is or who her dress is by and so if anybody happens to read this and knows, HELP A GIRL OUT. Secondly, I still stan Eva Longoria for playing Gabby Solis in Desperate Housewives which is the most slept on show amongst millennials and I wanted to use this opportunity to make a passionate PSA and say EVERYONE WATCH IT so references from it (âRex cries when he ejaculatesâ anyone?)Â can become part of our cultural zeitgeist again. Finally, Elle fucking Fanning, can you let us breathe, please? This old Hollywood inspired Dior look is so simple but probably one of my favourite looks from the whole festival because who knew it was possible to simultaneously look so glamorous and yet also so soft? Itâs timeless.
It shouldnât be a surprise that Taylor Hill makes the best dressed list twice. Obviously, she could wear a bin bag and look beautiful, but her stylist knows just how to elevate the whole angelic, other worldly being thing she has going on, and she was stunning in Ines Di Santo (left) and Fendi (middle) at the Rocketman premiere. Bella Hadid brought the same divine energy in a white, tulle Dior dress (far right).
Another one of Elle Fanningâs flawless Cannes moments was courtesy of Gucci (far left). On its own, I donât think this dress would catch my attention as much as it did BUT the cape detailing with the red lipstick and the hair pulled back makes this outfit a stand out for me. To Elleâs right are Natalia Vodianova in Atelier Versace (second from the left), and Lea Seydoux (second from right) and Stacy Martin (far right) both in Louis Vuitton.
Iâm gonna take a small break from Elle Fanning to fangirl over Guan Xiao Tong in Atelier Versace (far left). The quality of the photo I saved wouldnât be out of place on 13 year old meâs HTC phone but I also think nothing captures how beautiful the structure of Guan Xiaoâs dress was better than a semi aerial shot, and the same goes for Sririta Jensen in Michael Cinco (far right). Now back to admiring Elle Fanning, in Ryan Lo (second from left) and Vivienne Westwood (second from right).
Her daytime looks are just as good. Elle wears Marc Jacobs on the left, Miu Miu on the far right, and I have no bloody idea on the middle. If youâre reading this and you know, HMU. I promise, itâs not me being lazy; Elle.com doesnât know either.
To go back to red carpet looks, I loved Izabel Goulart in Valentino Couture (left) looking like she just killed her husband, Dracula, after a domestic that resulted from her draining the blood of his afternoon snacks (Iâm coming for your gig, Stephenie Meyer). Coco Rocha looked incredible in Elie Saab (middle); Iâm surprised this was the only one of her dresses that stood out to me this year because I really like her designs. God knows I have spent far too long imagining myself in one. Lastly in this photoset, thereâs Leomie Anderson in Rami Kadi (right) and, like, WOW.
Now, Iâm going to whizz through these last few photosets. First is Sara Sampaio in Armani, then Alina Baikova in Zuhair Murad, Charlotte Gainsbourg in Christian Dior Haute Couture, and finally Sui He on the far right. Iâm not sure who sheâs wearing and Harperâs Bazaar and reverse image search is giving me dust so as always, if youâre reading and you know, hmu.
From left to right here: Stella Maxwell in Atelier Versace, Martha Hunt in Monique LâHuillier, Gayle Rankin in Delpozo and Dua Lipa in Valentino.
L-R: Madison Beer in Georges Hobeika (STUNNING, and I just read on Twitter that there was a gun pulled out at one of her concerts which is insane, and how has it become so commonplace in the states that something like that doesnât make headline news?), Chloe Sevigny (again, I stan) in Miu Miu, and Hailey Clauson in Ralph and Russo.
L-R: Elle Fanning in Reem Acra (another fucking beautiful cape!), Elsa Hosk in Alberta Ferretti (Cannes 2019 has been GREAT advertisement for Alberta and power to her, am I right?), Jasmine Tookes in Zuhair Murad (I have LOVED this dress ever since its runway debut and there are few human beings out there who would do it more justice than Jasmine), and finally Araya Hargate again in Atelier Versace.
To finish, Eva Longoriaâs sleek all camel day look is more of Alberta Ferretti doing what she does best, high fashion Twitter darling Sasha Lussâs dress is couture Chanel, and so is Margot Robbieâs. Itâs the delicate touch of the plaits that I love with Margotâs look and Eva looks radiant, and both are a final reminder NOT TO SLEEP ON CANNESâ DAYTIME FASHION.
All in all, Cannes produced just as many extortionately expensive fairy princess looks as ever and, as always, I lived for it. I love dark, grungy fashion but still, the little girl in me canât beat feathers, satin and sequins; thereâs no event better suited for vicariously living out my French vanilla fantasy.Â
It also brings together two of my favourite things in life: films and fashion. Call me a basic bitch, but Iâm very excited for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (though I am conflicted about whether to see it in cinemas considering I just found out Leonard DiCaprio has known his current girlfriend since SHE WAS 11, like, what the fuck?), Portrait of a Lady on Fire sounds incredible, and I plan on seeing Rocketman this week.
If you read all this post all the way to the end, I hope you enjoyed it!

Amy & Sarah from Polished Kitchen Design
We are delighted to introduce Amy & Sarah from POLISHED KITCHEN DESIGN âŠ
Sarah & Amy from POLISHED KITCHEN DESIGN
We (Nici Jordan â Move Revolutionâs Marketing Director & Mathew Gurr â Area Sales Manager for Haywards Heath Lindfield & Burgess Hill) thoroughly enjoyed meeting Amy & Sarah for a coffee (and natter) at our favourite Lindfield Coffee Works. We wanted to share with you who they are, all things âPOLISHED KITCHEN DESIGNâ and so much more! Both Amy & Sarah have really interesting backgrounds â when you have a read you will understand their immense creativity, eye for detail â and why they care so much about delivering outstanding work for their clients!
Nici, Sarah, Amy & Mathew loving Lindfield Coffee Works
Tell us all about how (and why) you have started POLISHED KITCHEN DESIGNâŠ
Amy: I was a PR Director for a large cosmetics company in London for 15 years but had lost my zest for it. After doing renovations on our last 2 properties I wanted to follow my passion and try a career in interior design, so I took the plunge and left my job in the city. After completing an Interior Design course I was lucky enough to be offered a kitchen designer role in a local independent design studio who had actually designed and supplied my own kitchen 3 years previously which is when Sarah and I first met. I jumped at the chance as I loved the process of designing my own kitchen alongside Sarah. I think it was fate that we ended up working together!
Sarah: I started off my career working for a medical company but quickly felt it was the right career path for me. Iâd always had a passion for Interior Design so signed myself up for an Interior Design course at KLC Design college in Chelsea. Whilst I was studying I took on various work experience role with local designers which led me to a local kitchen design company. Soon after working in kitchen design I knew it was the right fit for me Iâve never looked back. Having worked in the industry for 9 years I still have as much passion and enjoyment from my job as I did when I started. Having worked with Amy over the years, we found we really complimented each others working style and it very naturally became apparent we would make great business partners. After many glasses of wine, cups of tea and far too many biscuits we came up with the idea of launching our own business venture â Polished Kitchen Designs. We have been blown away by the support and enthusiasm we have received so far and are excited to see whatâs in store beyond our first year.
Given you both love of all things âcreativeâ who or what is your main design inspiration?
Amy: In my previous career we worked with a lot of fashion designers such as YSL, Stella MCartney, Marc Jacobs and Chloe so itâs always been something I have been interested in. I love how trends span across fashion and interiors and playing with using things like accessories and colour to update a look. Iâm a big believer in a classic style that never dates but incorporating more trend led ideas that can bring things bang up to date but that are also easily changed when you fancy a change. Iâve always loved Cole & Son wallpapers and have used them in most of my personal projects over the years.
Sarah: We are both fans of Farrow & Ball, they always have such a tempting palette of paint colours to choose from and they are Eco friendly too. Personal favourites are Setting Plaster which is part of the new nude trend, Off Black which my kitchen is painted in and they canât be beaten for their gorgeous palette of greysâŠover the years we have used Blackened, Purbeck Stone, Elephants Breath and DownpipeâŠthe list goes on!
For affordable, stylish furniture and accessories Made.com really is a go to for me ïżœïżœïżœ I always find items I love and their clean and simple designs mean they compliment any style. They also have some great lighting options and many of our clients have sourced their island lighting from here. For me itâs an added bonus that they support independent designers all around the world.
The explosion of social media also means there are some amazing influencers out there who have some great style inspiration spanning across fashion and interiors.
Here are a few we love on Instagram :
Erica Davies
The Frugality
Rockett St George
Come down to the woods
Pink House Living
In your opinion what is the key design trend of 2019?
Amy: Industrial, edgy style kitchens with lots of different texturesâ thing sleek and contemporary with a mix of metallics, wood, dark hues and a contrasting colour to make it all pop. Donât get too caught up in matching your metallics as mixing these can be effective and create more interest visually rather than getting too matchy matchy!
We love this Second Nature 1909 kitchen which is a stunning example of making a traditional in-frame shaker kitchen more industrial and on trend with the addition of industrial black handles and on trend colours.
Sarah: Statement colours are not going anywhere. Donât be afraid to be bold â dark greens, blues and even black add drama and style to a kitchen, donât forget you can soften these colours with a touch of warmer hues such as cashmere and blush nudes. The addition of a light worktop will help to bounce the light around your space and always remember flooring plays an important part of your colour palette. A good tip is to get samples and create your own moodboard which will bring your entire concept together.
Tell us about POLISHED KITCHEN DESIGN .. what makes you different!Â
If you go to our website you will see out mission statement on our homepage which is:
Our passion and motivation is to design and install your dream kitchen, providing all the experience and inspiration you would get from an independent kitchen design studio â without the showroom price tag.
Our main aim when we started Polished Kitchen Designs was to make the independent kitchen design experience accessible to a wider customer base. We found that many people didnât want to buy a kitchen from one of the âbig shedsâ and felt underwhelmed by the product and service on offer. We also had many comments that they either felt intimidated by the smaller independent studios or that they thought they wouldnât have anything to suit smaller budgets. By not having our own studio we can offer the same quality product and service but without the showroom price tag. Weâve priced jobs recently which have come very close to Howdens prices, we are confident our product and personalised service is far superior so clients are getting a lot more for their money. We like nothing more than popping back to see our clients and their beautiful completed projects for a cup of tea (weâll bring the cake!) and natter. The process can take on average 4- 6 months (sometimes even longer if builders are involved!) from start to finish and in that time we build really good relationships with our clients so we have mixed emotions when our projects finish and itâs time to say goodbye.
If you are looking for a new kitchen we are in no doubt this will definitely have tempted you to give Amy and Sarah a call! Just go to their website  www.polishedkitchendesigns.co.uk or send them an email [email protected]

How to Become a Fashion Designer Steps You Need to Take?
By following these simple steps, you can become a fashion designer!
Many people dream of making clothes for a living, but often don't know the first step to making that dream a reality. Here's what you need to know.
You likely enjoy and appreciate beautiful things. Well, there's no better way to earn your living than by working in fashion. Take a look at the steps you need to take to become a fashion designer.
Start small. Learn by networking with like-minded people. Get your name and work out there as much as possible."
Create a vision board
The fashion industry is booming, and it's not hard to see why. There are more jobs than ever before in the field of fashion, and the average salary of a designer is $73,000.
To get started on your fashion design career, you need to know what it takes to become a professional designer. It certainly isn't as easy as just showing up at a job interview and hoping that you'll be hired.
If you want to be a successful fashion designer, there are several things you should consider before taking the plunge into this career path:
1) Find out what kind of work experience is required for designers. This will help you determine whether or not this type of work would be right for you.
2) Decide if becoming a professional designer is something that interests you enough to pursue after graduation from college. If not, then perhaps another career path might be better suited for your interests and abilities.
3) Make sure that whatever job entry-level position(s) you choose will give you enough experience so that when it comes time for higher level positions in the future, you'll have built up enough experience so that advancement won't be difficult or impossible due to lack of experience on your part (this applies especially
Here are the steps you need to take to become a fashion designer:
1. Decide on an industry and focus on one
The fashion industry is very competitive, and it's important that you are aware of the other designers in your field. If you're considering a career in fashion design, then consider taking courses on the history of fashion design, or read books about other famous designers such as Kate Spade or Marc Jacobs. You could also join an online community such as Thread less, where you can get inspiration from other people who work in the industry.
2. Learn about trends and how they evolve
A great way to learn more about trends is by getting involved with them yourself! Designers often attend trade shows or conferences where they can meet others who share their passion for fashion and learn new techniques or design ideas that they can take back to their own workplace or studio space. You could also try your hand at designing something new yourself that incorporates elements of current trends into it. For example, if you love floral patterns, then making a floral dress would be a great idea!
The best way to become a fashion designer is to study the field of fashion design. There are many programs that can help you learn how to design clothing and other items, such as sewing, pattern making, and so on.
There are also many different schools that offer courses in fashion design. These courses usually take 3 years to complete and they are offered at colleges and universities across the country. You will need to think about what type of person you are and what type of work you would like to do before deciding which program would be best for you.
If you have an interest in fashion design or want to become a designer, there are several things that you should consider when choosing a school. First, look at the tuition fees that are charged at each school because this will determine how much money it will cost each month for tuition fees and other expenses such as books and supplies needed for your studies.
Secondly, consider your schedule once you enroll in classes because some schools may have more flexible schedules than others.

Why The Woman Dior Bag Is Essentially The Most Magical Luxury Handbag Of All
The first Kelly bag was launched in 1892 and was used for holding saddles.  Women's Love Affair With Luxury Handbags
There is actually no question the simple fact that females have an on-going relationship along with luxurious purses. Bag weblogs or e-magazines and opinions on handbag forums indicate that some girls are in fact stressed with them. There are females who in fact own manies high-end ladies handbags which collectively cost thousands of dollars. Social media site and also Dr Google release images of the well-to-do, celebrities and also royals that are viewed out and concerning along with different bag for each and every clothing. They come in a variety of colours to match each shade and style of their outfits.
It is actually very easy for the vivid as well as popular, stars and royals possess to possess a sizable selection of deluxe handbags. However the normal operating woman or the visit at home mum may barely afford to pay such higher prices to know her desire. The fact is actually that a lot of bag-loving girls are going to go without various other things to fulfil her desire for a brand-new bag China.
What sacrifice would certainly you possess been prepared to bring in to press for the Hermes Birkin which lately cost public auction for over $200,000? Made from superb pink crocodile skin layer, it is adorned with 18 carat weight gold equipment and legitimate gemstones. The general Hermes is going to cost at the very least $8000, and you will probably have to get on a hanging around list to obtain it!
Deluxe purses nowadays carry out certainly not market for considerably lower than $500. As a matter of fact, several of the extra special manner homes market their bags for effectively over $1000. I personally will must spare up for a long to be the honored owner of some of these impressive devices.
While the greatest 21st-century object of wish, deluxe ladies handbags are the certainly not only for the well-to-do, personalities as well as royals, but also for operating ladies coming from all line of business at the same time. Now, girls of all ages are actually very likely to invest even more on a bag than a vacation, fashion jewelry and even an auto. They all possess this surprise wish to become seen.
Outfits in fact may take 2nd place to luxury bags. For circumstances, an add made in 2007 featuring Kate Moss being located nude on a seashore with nothing on besides her Longchamp ladies handbag. Their information was actually very clear: clothes are actually redundant - it's everything about the bag China.
So why perform women have this relationship with high-end handbags? Among the reasons is actually since they have actually become an individual manner claim illustrating a lady's wealth as well as standing. They also explain how manner mindful a woman is, as well as displays her placement and also earning energy. It is actually additionally since the ever before developing level of popularity of the large purse, which over the previous 100 years or two, has actually followed the emergent social independence of girls.
Recently a female's duty was normally domestic as well as she would certainly carry her individual things in a bag tucked in to the folds of her dress or even in a small handbag she carried discretely. But as girls ventured much more coming from the residence, both for convenience and also job, bigger purses became a practical way of taking their stuff along with all of them. Eleanor Roosevelt is claimed to have started the trend of using a sizable purse as a fashion extra
Another reason that luxury handbags became more popular was the simple fact that rail and also sea traveling ended up being more available, so there was actually even more requirement for classy baggage including luggage, suiting up scenarios, along with hat and footwear containers. This cause the progression of the modern leather ladies handbag.
It is actually not unusual, therefore that most of today's top fashion trend properties, such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada and Hermes, came from the late 19th and also early 20th centuries. And as women achieved economic independence, the bag business developed out of all proportion to its own modest beginnings.
Having said that, the method our experts really feel about owning ideal bag goes much deeper than only being a way to hold our individual results. Both disclosing and hiding, high-end bags likewise symbolizes a sensation that is actually remarkably exclusive to its owner. This feeling results from the fact that the bag was very first developed as a silk bag or even pocket put on concealed, near to our physical body. At that point, wallets were actually considered underclothing - a secret area, concealed under coatings of material as well as assessable merely through a special position in the dress.
These feelings of intimacy did not disappear when the very first deluxe handbags were actually carried in the late 18th century. Called reticules, these handbags were perfectly embroidered bags with handles in linen, silk or velour. Women utilized all of them to hold cosmetics, a fan for toying, scenting sodiums and also carte de visite, all without compromising the slim-line fit of the Empire-line dress that were popular then.
At initially, the tip of a female showing her individual bits as well as pieces to the outside globe was as scandalous as if she had removed her knickers and swung all of them in the sky. Therefore, handbags were frequently designated "mocks" through those not all set to accept the improvement.
High-end ladies handbags were, as well as still are, considered sexual things since of the affection which over the last was actually linked with them, The articulation "aged bag" was actually used to pertain to a girl who was passed her sexual prime as well as bad-tempered old women that reveal no feeling or emotion for others are still contacted that today.
Luxurious ladies handbags still possess their allure due to the fact that they are actually therefore closely connected to each one of our in-depth belongings. A big purse is our survival package which accommodates all our individual necessities which at presents include a cellphone, tampons, cosmetics, funds as well as secrets, to hair flat irons, laptops, I-phones, eating gum tissue, prophylactics to a modification of garments. Appropriately, its own in-depth appeal remains top secret. Males are captivated about what a lady holds in her bag, but will never ever provoke to occupy its personal privacy.
Bag-loving women think naked without their deluxe ladies handbags. They strongly believe that it is your bag, as opposed to your garments, which create you attract attention from the group. Regardless of whether your clothes are outdated and also boring, a nice-looking bag creates you look really good Guangzhou.
Therefore, the purse field has actually experienced extraordinary development over the last few years. By the mid-2000's purchases of bags were on the rise at a rate which was actually twice as higher as the fee of outfits. The significant manner homes now produce countless bucks a year from the sale of high-end purses alone.
Thus what are the attributes that prepare high-end purses apart? The primary thing is actually that they have to have an exclusive design. They need to be actually instantly recognizable as a leading label, e.g. Fendi, Gucci, Hermes, Louis Vuitton or even coming from other fashion property. Manner homes often have their trademark layouts and this aids with branding at the same time.
An additional substantial component for beneficial luxury bags is actually appeal and charm. Normally this is discovered when a certain brand name is actually linked to a celebrity e.g.the widely known Hermes Kelly bag which was actually made in 1935, was actually certainly not until bestseller until 1956. The bag shot to popularity when the newlywed, Princess Grace of Monaco, was actually photographed for the cover of your time journal covering her expecting stomach along with a timeless Hermes bag. The bag in inquiry as a result became understood as the Kelly bag in her honour. Style article writers advertised the affiliation in between bag as well as superstar: Carrying a Kelly bag is actually still interchangeable along with course and old money.
Likewise, the Lady Dior ended up being a feeling in 1994 when Princess Diana needed to wearing it around town after she split up coming from Prince Charles. This handbag is actually a provocative mixture of brief-case and purse which possesses distinctive gold beauties. It emphasized an attentive girl that was actually, alternatively, elegant and innovative. Currently, social networking sites can easily recommend the status and requirement for a private bag merely through been actually captured on the arm of a design image, celeb or royal like Princess Kate Middleton.
Sharp marketing undoubtedly participates in an important part in creating a must-have bag. Whereas famous personalities may be capable to get their palms on the most up-to-date high-end purses, for the functioning girl it is much extra troublesome, irrespective of the amount of money they desire to invest. A lot of high-status bags are actually hard to reach and also may have hanging around listings stretching approximately three years. The Hermes Birkin resides in this type.
Women's innate competition is actually ingeniously managed by the absolute best bag developers. For instance. In 2005, Alexander McQueen steered customer need to a height when he made it known that the launch of his new professional bag was a confined along with simply 200 ever to be actually made. It after that ended up being the greatest fashion trend trophy and also sold out just before a standing by list was actually even assembled. This bag was contacted the Novak after Kim Novak, the epic blonde starlet that starred in Alfred Hitchcock's 1958 showpiece Vertigo. Prices began at †550 as well as climbed to a substantial †6,000 for the deluxe crocodile version.
It seems that a rate tag carries out not dissuade those stressed along with bags. Actually, manner homes have exercised that a high price seems to be to boost the desire to own it. There certainly is a limitless readiness to spray out on professional bags.
Luxurious bags will definitely last a life-time if maintained appropriately. Some well-known styles reoccur, some keep their market value and also others boost in value. However, it is just a minority that possess the right top qualities to end up being famous. To end up being legendary, a bag is actually not simply wonderfully well created but it additionally goes beyond time. The following companies have earned the right to phone a bag iconic: Hermes Kelly, the Fendi Baguette, the Marc Jacobs's Stam, the YSL Muse and the Mulberry Roxanne.
Each of these luxurious purses discuss something in common; a crystal clear, tidy line; nothing picky or even over-designed, and a blend of performance along with extravagance. A renowned bag earns its own status coming from the most ideal practices of pedigree, top quality as well as craftsmanship. As it ages, a well-known bag will definitely look comparable to it carried out on the day it was actually bought. And, for a correct bag fan, that costs all the loan invested in it.

 1. Constantly conceal your bag when in the cars and truck.
It appears unusual, yet according to national criminal activity statistics ladies handbag fraud coming from vehicles outstripped street "take" unlawful acts through 5:1 in 2007, which goes to present what a very easy intended a neglected bag may be actually.
Whenever you remain in the cars and truck, always put your purse well out of website. Even when you are still in the car or driving, keep your ladies handbag concealed to avoid it becoming a quick and easy aim at for the go-getter thief.
It just about do without pointing out but it takes place opportunity and also opportunity once again, never ever leave your handbag on display screen when you have actually left your auto. Also a lavish securing system and also loud car alarm system won't quit a burglar from snatching your bag, thus always keep your bag hidden Guangzhou.
 2. Hold your handbag away coming from the traffic
Wherever achievable consistently make it hard for the go-getter burglar. Many handbag thefts take place when passing vehicle drivers snatch all of them from the upper arms of passerbies, so remove this possibility completely by just using your handbag on the other shoulder, a simple yet reliable safety and security pointer!
 3. Be vigilant in pubs, clubs and also bistros.
Whatever took place to the sight of girls hemming and haw their bags ?! Maybe a person discovered exactly how effortless it was to swipe the purse concerned, or even possibly an individual else observed just how foolish it appeared. In any case, coming from a protection viewpoint it's perhaps advantageous Guangzhou.
The moment again this pointer comes directly coming from the school of sound judgment safety and security, yet whenever you're out on the town constantly maintain your ladies handbag in view. The blend of alcohol and also an ignored purse may verify way too much for even the absolute most component time of burglars, therefore do not provide them the possibility and maintain grip of your bag.
Likewise watch out for anyone that supplies to inspect your handbag or even possessions in to a cloakroom as this is actually an all of as well simple fraud to drop for. If you desire your items checked out in, check them in to a safe place yourself.
 4. Be actually cautious along with across body system bags.
They might seem like the excellent answer, but bags along with straps over the body can create you a lot more danger than good. The bald eagle eyed crook is actually a lot more most likely to have seen the bag instead of the strap, meaning that it does not supply the preventative you will hope. It likewise implies that need to anyone effort to swipe it they'll receive even more than they bought for when you're dragged in addition to it, which could possibly bring about you being wounded Guangzhou.
We're obviously not stating do not use purses throughout the physical body, but do know that they don't provide the resistance coming from being taken that you will really hope.
 5. If doubtful, just let it go.
As difficult as it is actually to accept, if you are visiting reside in any danger when it relates to keeping hold of your bag, only let it go. Even with a brand-new handbag being actually one thing you fall for, it is actually unworthy risking your security to keep it.
With the high price of a premium purse combined along with the market value of items that are currently always kept in bags (phones, handbags, charge card etc) it is probably that whoever is going to snatch your ladies handbag is most likely even more desperate to take it than you are actually to maintain it.

Can Recycled Rags Fix Fashionâs Waste Problem?
In the fashion industry about 220 percent of the fabric used in the cut-make-trim phase is ultimately thrown out. In addition, brands frequently reject fabrics because they donât match the desired shade exactly, and once a garment is complete, firms like Burberry burned $37 million of clothing and cosmetics to maintain âbrand valueâ and H&M came under scrutiny after it was reported to have incinerated 60 tons of unsold merchandise. If you were an industry association leader, what would you recommend be done with all this waste? Why? What are the ethics underlying your decision?
Tucked away in the bowels of the Brooklyn Army Terminal is a 4,000-square-foot warehouse filled from wall to wall and floor to ceiling with garbage bags. They contain castoffs from New Yorkâs fashion studios: mock-up pockets ripped from sample jeans, swatches in next seasonâs paisley print.
There is denim here in every wash, spandex in every hue. Dig through one bag and it is possible to find a little rug of carmine-colored fur and yards of gray pinstripe wool suiting. In another, embroidered patches from GapKids and spools of ribbon in velvet and lace.
Nearly 6,000 pounds of textile scraps arrive each week to be inspected, sorted and recycled by five staffers and many more volunteers at FabScrap, the nonprofit behind this operation. Since 2016, it has helped New Yorkâs fashion studios recycle their design-room discards â the mutilated garments, dead-stock rolls and swatches that designers use to pick materials and assess prototypes.
So far, the organization has collected close to half a million pounds of fabric from the design studios of large retailers like Express, J. Crew and Marc Jacobs and independent clothiers in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Their discards have been shredded and recycled into stuffing and insulation or resold to fashion students, educators and artists.
âSo much waste gets created in the design process,â said Jessica Schreiber, the executive director of FabScrap. âBut itâs the tip of the iceberg.â
As climate change has accelerated, corporations of all kinds have become increasingly preoccupied with their sustainability cred. Four-fifths of consumers feel strongly that companies should implement programs to improve the environment, according to a recent Nielsen study.
Clothing companies in particular have faced pressure to change, from politicians, protesters at fashion shows and shoppers of all ages who want to reduce their carbon footprints. The fashion industry is often erroneously cited as the second-most polluting business in the world, but overproduction, chemical use, carbon emissions and waste are certainly issues it contends with.
Ms. Schreiber understood early the angst that waste was causing designers. In 2014, she was overseeing the Department of Sanitationâs refashionNYC program, which collects old clothing and textiles at farmersâ markets and in participating apartment buildings.
She received a string of similar calls from brands including J. Crew, Eileen Fisher, Express, Mara Hoffman and Marc Jacobs. The companies were sitting on piles of seasonal prints and swatches that couldnât be donated but shouldnât be thrown out.
âIt really hit a nerve with people,â Ms. Schreiber said. Half of the designers had resorted to hoarding scraps under their desks as they tried â and failed â to find places to give them away. âThere was a lot of guilt,â she said, and no clear path.
Spinning a Sustainable Yarn
For a designer, cutting down on waste isnât as simple as recycling a few bags of fabric every week. It requires overhauling the brandâs business model: forgoing seasonal collections; eschewing â or being rejected by â traditional retailers that accept only large orders and standard packaging; selling directly to consumers; and getting design teams to think about the sustainability and supply chain of each material and garment.
Dana Davis, the vice president of sustainability at Mara Hoffman and an early FabScrap adopter, remembered feeling anxious about how the company could better deal with waste. âIt just felt burdensome,â she said. But after a conversation with Ms. Hoffman, the designer, it became clear to them that change was necessary.
The company began shipping swimwear in compostable bags and made long-term commitments to the materials it purchased. To cut excess inventory, the brand moved away from the fashion cycle and the industry norm of placing orders on projection.
There are still challenges â like making sure consumers and retailers actually compost the bags â but other brands are getting on board with changes at the design, manufacturing and distributional levels.
Itâs hard to pinpoint how much waste is created before a garment even reaches the consumer. Factory waste is not tracked by outside agencies. Supply chains are now so complex and reliant on remote contractors and subcontractors that the companies canât account for all the materials.
Even if a brand wanted to find out how much fabric waste it created, âit would be very difficult for them to research that, because different factories might have different processes,â said Timo Rissanen, an associate professor of sustainability at Parsons School of Design.
Wendy Waugh, the senior vice president of sustainability at Theory and a FabScrap client, knew that determining the brandâs total waste would be a challenge. The company works with many different fibers, which are sourced from all over the world. The companyâs âGood Wool,â for instances, comes from a farm in Tasmania, and is scoured, spun and dyed at a mill in Italy before it is warehoused and sold around the world.
After a fiber is harvested and spun, it is sent to a factory where it is cut, dyed and trimmed. Reverse Resources, a software company that works with major apparel factories in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, found that 20 percent of the fabric used in the cut-make-trim phase is ultimately thrown out.
Linda Greer, the founder of the Clean by Design program and a former toxicologist at the N.R.D.C., has advised many garment and dyeing factories in China. She said that brands frequently reject fabrics because they donât match the desired shade exactly.
âIâve seen so many âweeping pilesâ of miscolored fabric,â Ms. Greer said. âSometimes they can touch it up. And sometimes they throw it away.â
Once a garment is complete, it can present another problem: excess inventory. In some cases those garments are incinerated, which prevents them from being resold at a discount, Mr. Rinassen said.
Last year, Burberry burned $37 million of clothing and cosmetics to maintain âbrand value.â The previous year, H&M came under scrutiny after it was reported to have incinerated 60 tons of unsold merchandise.
Stephanie Benedetto founded Queen of Raw, an online marketplace for dead-stock fabrics and a FabScrap partner, after seeing how much manufactured material was sitting in warehouses ($120 billion worth, by her estimate). At that volume, she said, waste isnât just environmentally irresponsible â itâs âa C.F.O. issue.â
Apparently, also, a marketing issue. Fashion companies have been quick to invest in environmentally friendly marketing. There have been capsule collections derived from natural fibers like orange pulp (Salvatore Ferragamo), pineapple leaves (H&M), grape skin (& Other Stories) and mushrooms (Stella McCartney), and a wide selection of recycled polyester made from fishing nets (Burberry) and beach-strewn plastic bottles (Adidas).
These usually amount to little more than P.R. gambits and short-term fixes.
Samantha MacBride, an assistant professor at Baruch College and a former waste management professional, said that the ideas big brands implement often reflect a lack of understanding about waste management.
The way to minimize trash, she said, isnât by devising a green marketing strategy or using new technological fixes. âThe key is to produce less,â she said.
Sorting Through Scraps
Standing on the FabScrap floor, it is impossible not to feel overwhelmed by the enormous pile of trash.
Ms. Schreiber noted that the bags in the facility were âalmost irrelevant in the scheme of what is probably generated.â None of the overstocked garments languishing in company warehouses are here. Nor are the huge quantities of fabric that are tossed from the factory floor.
Beneath the heap, seven volunteers slowly and manually sorted by material every scrap that came in. They inspected and removed labels and rubbed the fabric between their fingers. It could not have been further from the mechanized processes at a recycling plant, which employ feats of engineering â eddy currents, magnets and near-infrared scanners â to identify and categorize various types of metals, plastic and paper.
There is no technology in use that can detect the differences between, say, spandex and wool. âThe infrastructure is lacking,â Ms. Schreiber said. âLike the fact that the sorting still all happens by hand is bonkers.â
The recycling processes are similarly decades behind. Today, there are a number of companies, like Evrnu and WornAgain, that are just beginning to recycle fibers, a process that involves shredding and dissolving the fibers into a pulp that can be respun into a new fabric.
Ms. Schreiber said that if clothing scraps were treated âas a waste-commodity stream, not a nonprofit-managed material, we would be further along in the tech.â
In the back corner of the warehouse is one of FabScrapâs two shops, where it sells many of the larger pieces its employees and volunteers find among the scraps. On any given day, some fashion students stop by, shopping and drawing inspiration from the ends of dead-stock rolls that are cheaper here than at fabric stores in the city.
Jasmine Velazquez, a fashion student at F.I.T., studied some green leather that she wanted to use for an upcoming assignment. âIâd rather buy leather from here than support the industry like that. Sustainability should be more important to me because I am a student,â she said.
In June, FabScrap opened a second shop, on a block in the garment district teeming with secondhand shops, and just a stoneâs throw from F.I.T.
Camille Tagle, the director of reuse and partnership at FabScrap and a former evening wear designer at Pamella Roland, pointed out some of the special fabrics that filled the shelves. There were rolls of baby blue suede and white cotton with geometric fil coupé accents. Above the shelves were nearly full cones of thread in colors that evoked a Pantone guide.
âIf it doesnât match by a fraction of a shade, itâs out,â she said.
One piece in particular, a shawlâs length of pink crinkle chiffon with sequined flowers, caught her eye. Each flower had at least three or four colors arranged in a different pattern. âIt takes a lot of time,â Ms. Tagle said. âA designer had to communicate all of those details to the mill.â
A steady traffic of students and hobbyists came in to peruse the shelves and scour the scrap bins. Olivia Koval, who is pursuing an M.F.A. in textiles at Parsons, left the shop with a tote bag full of mutilated jeans and denim scraps. She planned to overdye and felt them together to make a larger fabric.
âFor people to feel inspired by something that was headed for the trash is really important for me,â Ms. Tagle said.
Since opening six months ago, the Chelsea store has served 4,800 customers. Next year, FabScrap plans to set up operations on the West Coast.
In spite of what she has built, Ms. Schreiber is measured about FabScrapâs success. âThis is such a small group of self-selecting companies, and this is a very niche part of their waste stream,â she said. âThatâs whatâs so frustrating.â

Now more than ever, fashion is embracing sustainability and not just from the consumerâs end. The labels themselves are also becoming environmentally conscious.
The recent fashion weeks saw several brands taking steps to highlight the issue to a wider audience. This is with the aim to alleviate the effect the industry has on the environment.
Gucci announced it was committed to becoming 100% carbon neutral, just a week before its runway show in Milan. Dior built its Paris runway surrounded by trees, which were to be re-planted in sustainability projects around the city.
Burberry, on the other hand, took steps to offset the carbon impact of its London show by donating to a number of causes and projects that prevent deforestation, as well as conserve parts of the Amazonian jungle.
New York Fashion Week showcased labels like Mara Hoffman, Chromat and Collina Strada. Each one adheres to a mission of adhering to fair trade practices, local or low-impact production, and/or transparent sourcing methods.
Chromat unveiled a swimwear collection made of sustainable lycra, discarded fishing nets, and up-cycled fabrics, while the Collina Strada show began with an environmental activist giving a talk.
Mara Hoffman did away with the runway altogether. Instead, the label brought members of the press into its office for an intimate presentation.
âThere is garbage for the programmes, the food, and water, the sets. Are people renting things or are we breaking that down, and is it going into the garbage?â Hoffman herself told In Style. âSo here I am not doing a show, and I donât have any FOMO (fear of missing out).â
To top is off, the third annual Green Carpet Fashion Awards closed Milan Fashion Week. It saw Francois-Henri Pinault, CEO of Kering (the company that owns Gucci, Bottega Veneta and Balenciaga), presented with the Visionary Award.
Pinault told The Hollywood Reporter at the event that they already had a plan to achieve carbon neutrality. He noted, âBut considering the urgency of deforestation and what is happening in the Amazon, we decided to put it into effect immediately and not wait.â
The night also saw Valentino Garavani honoured with the Legacy Award. It recognised the quality and durability of his labelâs creations and the legacy of these pieces being passed on for generations â as opposed to fast fashion.
Diorâs green show space highlights the need for bio-diversity to survive climate change. Many of the trees sourced for the set were in danger of dying because of rising temperatures, and after being cared for, they were replanted around Paris.
Diluting That Carbon Footprint
It is without argument that fashion has an impact on the planet. These days, clothes are often regarded as disposable. The manufacturing process also releases harmful waste.
A 2019 European Union report stated that the average number of collections released by apparel companies per year has gone from two in 2000 to five in 2011, with fast fashion labels offering up to 24 new collections each year.
Last year, the United Nations pointed out that the fashion industry contributes to around 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions due to its long supply chains and energy intensive production. It also said the industry consumes more energy than the aviation and shipping industry combined.
âShifting practices in the fashion industry to reduce carbon emissions is key to limiting warming to as close to 1.5°C above pre-Industrial Revolution levels, in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change,â reads the statement.
But the whole idea of âgreenâ fashion is not entirely new. The industry toyed around with sustainable practices all the way back in the late 1980s â before it became a trending issue.
Belgian designer Martin Margielaâs debut collection in 1988 included what The Independent described as âa leather butcherâs apron reworked to make it an attractive evening dressâ.
H&Mâs Conscious Exclusive collection uses materials that have less impact on the environment.
Adhering to a philosophy of ânothing is lost, everything is transformedâ, the man (who established French fashion house Maison Martin Margiela) also turned second-hand clothing and flawed fabrics into runway collections.
Marc Jacobs used to have a store in New York where leftover pieces from runway collections were turned into clothes and accessories under the label, Marc by Marc Jacobs for Marc Jacobs. Italian label Moschino sent its models down the runway with T-shirts saying âStop Using Our Oceans as a W.C.â back in 1989. This was at a time when designers began using their designs to send a message.
H&M, lampooned for the sheer amount of clothes it produces, has long tried to reduce the impact of its fast fashion practices. Twice a year, the brand releases special ready-to-wear pieces that makes use of sustainable materials.
The Conscious Exclusive collection is now entering into its 10th year. The latest incorporates recycled brass and zinc, as well as fibre partly made from waste cotton, into designs.
Act Of Conscience
The people consuming fashion are also making a change. Just look at bundle shopping. It is no longer seen as just about being thrifty, but a great way to reduce waste.
According to Kloth Cares, a social entrepreneurship movement founded with the aim of keeping fabrics out of landfills through recycling, 2019 data shows an estimated four per cent of the total municipal solid waste generated in Malaysia comes from textile waste.
âThat old T-shirt or pair of jeans that you plan to throw away makes up of 5% of solid waste that ends up in our landfills, if not recycled,â reads the statement on its website.
Seen at New York Fashion Week, the designs by Chromat were crafted with sustainable, regenerated nylon, spun from fishing nets recovered from the ocean.
This is where businesses dealing with second-hand clothes come in. Bundle shops like Bandoru Store for example, sells pre-loved clothing from Japan (both online and in its stores), all carefully selected and cleaned.
Recyclothes, an online fashion boutique based in Malaysia, offers second hand womenâs clothes. The proceeds are then given back to society in the form of donations to charity organisations.
The younger generation, probably one of the biggest consumers of fast fashion, are all for it too. They are now accepting the fact you can look good by buying pre-loved clothes.
âFashion is a way to express, and pre-loved items gives that opportunity to youths without spending too much,â says Muhammad Ali Khazurin, 24, who has been shopping at bundle stores for years.
For twenty-year-old Nadhirah Aminah Rashid, being mindful of your fashion purchases is something to be proud of. She said, âNot only we can save the earth, but we can tell the people that you donât need to spend a lot to look cool.â
Others, like 27-year-old Cynthia Sim, said it is just a matter of changing the mindset of thinking that new is always better. To her, buying second-hand clothes helps reduce wastage.
And with consumers becoming environmentally conscious, it is only natural that brands and designers are following suit â which bodes well for an industry that is trying its very best to go green.
It also goes to show that fashion is increasingly aware of the impact it has on the environment. From the producers to the consumers, eco-consciousness is certainly a good look to sport.
