“Well, if you must know,” said Cousin Antavia, trying and failing to conceal a bouquet of purple Hyacinthus orientalis in her sleeve, “I supposed I might as well stop by here. You know, while I’m in the area.”

She couldn’t have looked more out of place in the royal cathedral of Loriston, with her cropped hair and garish gown amid the pale gray stone walls that had loomed over centuries of Coregean monarchs. And quite frankly, she had startled Delclis when he ran into her on his way out from a meeting with the Archbishop. Delclis would have been content to have avoided the cathedral altogether except for inevitable state occasions, but His Grace had some bee in his mitre about convening in an environment that would keep the young king in a proper state of awe at the weight of his responsibilities before heaven as well as his people.

It worked. 

Delclis was beating his retreat from those hundreds of faces staring him down from stained glass and monuments, but the presence of his cousin, who admittedly had not darkened the door of a church in nearly thirty years, had made that impossible.

There was still hope, however.

“You will wish to be alone then,” he said. “Please excuse—”

“Oh, I didn’t come here for that.” She laughed, a thin sound in the vast expanse of the sanctuary. “You ought to know me better than that by now, darling. They tell me this is where An—your father is buried. And as much as I revel in the romance of the home of the dead, this is by far the most stuffy and uninteresting collection of the deceased that I’ve had the misfortune to encounter. Reminds me of being back in school. If I have to go hunting for your father in this crowd, you’ll need to bury me before I ever find him once I collapse from tedium. So would you be a sweet boy and take me straight to him?”

Delclis fidgeted with the cap in his hand. “Well, I—I don’t know. I don’t remember exactly—”

Antavia nodded knowingly. “Don’t visit him very often, do you? A lot of animosity to dear old Papa for popping off and leaving you holding the baby? Oh, I understand.”

That was nonsense, of course. Delclis had never even met his father. How could he possibly be angry with him? It was irrational to be angry with a dead person.

“It’s not like that,” he said. “It’s just that—I’m not here very often and—I really ought to be going…”

“Do you have a general idea of the vicinity where he is?”

Whatever animosity Delclis definitely didn’t have for his father, there was plenty of it for Antavia. Why couldn’t she ask someone else? It wasn’t his job to give tours of this wretched establishment.

“The Marbert VI Chapel,” he finally said. “Over there.”

But that wasn’t enough for Antavia. She insisted on his taking her arm and escorting her there. It was as if she actually wanted someone hanging around while she visited her uncle’s grave. So Delclis led her up the stairs and through the brass gates with their spear-like points rising high above the visitors’ heads and into the north aisle where the royal tombs began.

WEEK 3 - ES302

In the third week, a lot happened, and I also learned a lot.

On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, we were tasked with presenting an activity related to our proposed company/product: interviewing 30 people. I was shocked by how similarly people think about recycling. Yes, some of them recycled plastics, while others were lazy to do so, but they all contributed to eliminating plastic waste through recycling. I learned that even though people can be lazy, they are still concerned about global issues.

We were also assigned to watch the plenary class about value proposition and business thesis templates by Engr. Marbert Jael. From that video, I learned how to write a business thesis.

Additionally, I gained insights into my groupmates’ cooperation and characteristics. They are eager to work on the activity as soon as possible, which makes it easier because we share many common traits. I hope to continue learning more about this subject and the behavior of the people around me.
