PTM Leader Manzoor Pashteen Arrested In Peshawar

The leader of the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM), Manzoor Pashteen, was on Monday arrested in Peshawar, according to officials and members of the PTM. Police officials in Shaheen Town, where Pashteen was taken into custody, confirmed his arrest and said the rights activist would shortly be shifted to Dera Ismail Khan, where a First Information Report had been registered against him. Pashteen would be presented before a judicial magistrate for transitory remand later in the day, they added. A copy of the FIR against Pashteen, seen by Newsweek, states that he is wanted under Sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation); 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups); 120-B (punishment of criminal conspiracy); 124-A (sedition); and 123-A (condemning the creation of Pakistan and advocating the abolishment of its sovereignty) of the Pakistan Penal Code. In a posting on Twitter, PTM leader and parliamentarian Mohsin Dawar said Pashteen’s arrest would not diminish the movement’s resolve. “This is our punishment for demanding our rights in a peaceful and democratic manner,” he said of the arrest. “Manzoor’s arrest will only strengthen our resolve. We demand the immediate release of Manzoor Pashteen,” he added. In a subsequent post, Dawar urged PTM workers and supporters to avoid any unrest over Pashteen’s arrest. “It is my request to PTM workers and supporters to remain calm in response to Manzoor’s arrest,” he said. “We will devise a strategy after consultations. We are up against those who are most troubled by demands for constitutional rights and we will continue doing that,” he added. The PTM rose to prominence in February 2018 following the extrajudicial killing of Naqeebullah Mehsud in Karachi. As protests spread nationwide, the rights-based alliance—which seeks an end to enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, unlawful detentions, and accountability for all those found complicit in these activities—came under fire from the military, which has accused the group of colluding with “enemy forces” to destabilize the country. Prime Minister Imran Khan, prior to his victory in the 2018 general elections, had vowed to support the PTM’s cause and advance their demands. Since his election, he was noticeably backtracked on those claims, with senior government officials urging the group to avoid any unrest. Pashtun Tahavuz Movement (PTM) organized a huge protest in front of the United Nations headquarters in Geneva to raise the voice of Pashtuns who's human rights has been violated by the Pakistani establishment. On the 1st of July, more than 1200 activists reached to Geneva through a long march. People came from all over Europe in order to show their support. The well-organized protest started at 15:30 local time and extended till 18:00, with regulations which were set by the local authorities. The security of the protest was taken care of by a professional team of more than 30 trained guards. This is in light of recent attacks on PTM protests by individuals who are allegedly backed by the Pakistani establishment. Both men and women, as well as children were seen protesting. The protesters carried signboards showing the atrocities by the Pakistani Army. It also brought the attention of the international community, once again towards the Khar Qamar massacre. On 26 of May 2019, two parliamentarians affiliated to the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) were leading a procession of activists to the Khar Kamar area of North Waziristan, along the Afghan border, when the army fired on the civilians, leading to the deaths of more than 15 activists and around 45 severely injured. The army killed protestors by unlawfully using live ammunition, which is a very serious violation of international law. Both parliamentarians, Ali Wazir, and Mohsin Dawar, are currently in custody of the Pakistani military. The Pashtun Diaspora and Representatives of PTM in Europe strongly condemn such inhuman, immoral and unconstitutional acts and demand an immediate end to such insensitive and unlawful acts. اسلام آباد کے شہزاد ٹاؤن پولیس اسٹیشن میں محمد ذیشان نامی شہری کی درخواست پر گلالئی اسماعیل کے خلاف مقدمہ درج کیا گیا جس میں انسداد دہشت گردی ایکٹ کی دفعات شامل کی گئی ہیں۔

درخواست میں موقف اختیار کیا گیا ہے کہ گلالئی اسماعیل نے جھوٹے الزامات لگا کر واقعے کا رخ حکومت پاکستان کی جانب موڑ دیا۔ انہوں نے اپنی تقریر میں ایسے الفاظ استعمال کیے کہ پشتون بھائیوں کے دل میں ملک اور دیگر اقوام کے خلاف نفرت پیدا ہو۔ ویڈیو سے صاف ظاہر ہو رہا تھا کہ وہ پشتونوں کو جان بوجھ کر پاکستانیوں اور فوج کے خلاف اکسا رہی ہیں۔ ویڈیو بیان سے پاکستان کے شہریوں کی دل آزاری ہوئی۔
