Tech Rating/Availability: F/X-X-X-X
Cost: 34,853,333 C-bills
Overview:
Gewitter is built on the Atlas chassis, though a great deal of modification has made it truly one-of-a-kind. The original platform upon which the venerable ‘Mech was built was the Atlas AS7-K3, notable for its inclusion of jump jets. They remained a hallmark of Gewitter, carrying through to the final model, introduced on the battlefields of Helios in October 3153, much to the horror of the Word of Blake forces at the Battle of Fort Bayeux. Gewitter is, at first glance, a fairly standard Atlas mech, originally of Defiance Industries manufacture. However, after two major refits, very little remains of the original K3 as it entered service in 3134. The first refit was conducted by the MechTechs of Skobel Mechworks at their Yakima Proving Grounds on Terra. There, for a time, Gewitter sat opposite Test Unit Sierra Five - the original Mackie and the first ever BattleMech - while the Atlas was fully rebuilt. The refit focused on integrating mixed Inner Sphere and Clan technology along with additional command gear, armor, and sensors; steps were also taken to shave weight from the original design. This further enhanced its pilot’s dynamic, fluid style with greater maneuverability. An extra additional step added late in the refit process, as ordered by Commanding General Melissa Hazen herself, saw Gewitter's right hand fitted with a half-ton, 24-karat engagement ring, complete with the largest natural diamond ever cut in human history - the inside band of which was etched in micro font with the entire Jade Falcon Remembrance. This ring remained upon Gewitter's right arm, even after the wedding of Hazen and Marten-Steiner in the aftermath of Operation TOUCHDOWN. The second refit, performed on the battlefields of Helios by Star Captain (later Khan) Xerxes Truscott of Clan Star Adder, focused primarily on the integration of two newly designed, powerful, and devastating weapons: the Clan-spec Light Gauss Rifle and the Pile Bunker.
Deployment:
As the personally owned 'Mech of Lieutenant General Marten-Steiner, Gewitter deployed alongside Theodora during her entire career - first with the LCAF, and then with the Third Star League's SLDF.
History:
Gewitter was the custom command 'Mech of Lieutenant General Theodora Marten-Steiner, notable for her role in the early formation of the Third Star League SLDF, Operation TOUCHDOWN, Operation WINDFALL, and the later Lyran War of Reclamation. Famous in her eventual role as commander of the hyper-elite Royal Guards RCT, the Lieutenant General also served as the second commanding officer of the Royal Black Watch regiment, after its second re-founding in 3151.

Catapult CPLT-BW-E 'EM4' (aka 'Creole')
This ‘Mech started off as an unremarkable CPLT-K2, but by the time of its first deployment, was a K2 in name only. Creole was developed in tandem with its pilot as part of the Blackwell Heavy Industries’ experimental Enhanced MechWarrior program, and was the sole such BattleMech developed and deployed, as the revelation of its pilot's existence set in motion events that would resonate beyond Helios, and ultimately help shape the early days of the new Star League... and also ensure the downfall of Blackwell itself.
Creole featured a mixed weapon loadout with answers for threats at any range, and an extensive EWAR suite to back up the well-rounded armament. What set it apart, however, was its unique cockpit configuration. Engineered specifically for use by its pilot EM4, she was as much part of the ‘Mech as the ‘Mech was part of her. A suite of proprietary Blackwell vDNI technology known as the Vehicular Advanced Neural Interface Layered Link Apparatus - or VANILLA - connected her to her pilot at such a deep level that it was hard to determine if the ‘Mech was an extension of the pilot, or the pilot an extension of the ‘Mech. In addition, Creole had cleanroom-grade cockpit filters and an airlock to accommodate its pilot's sensitivity to non-sterile environments.
Though the pair performed extremely well in all simulated environments, Operation TOUCHDOWN was the first time Creole would see an actual combat drop. After being given a clean bill of health by the SLDF MechTechs, the 'Mech would show what Blackwell’s finest - if also most unethical - minds were capable of.
(Creole was designed by yours truly, but belongs to @sapphic-design-is-my-passion / @the-emmapult. Art was done by the ever talented @cromwell300!)

You've seen gauss rifle Arbiters both light and regular so now I present to you, the (potentially) Nuclear Arbiter. It may not be a golden ticket but it's definitely a one way ticket.
Maybe it will not attain a victory, but the enemy is certain to suffer a defeat. There is only one option on this 'mech and it is the one nobody wants. Great savings on ammunition costs, it must be said. If you ever take the one shot there is a good chance you will never have to pay for another.

SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY MANIFESTO 2024 SUMMARY
cw: extreme transphobia
ok story time. after thatcher happened the labour party elected a left-wing leader to try stop her. four labour MPs left the party in protest and formed the SDP. they formed a non-aggression pact with the Liberal Party, and after a couple years voted in favour of merging to form the Liberal Democrats. one of the four founders disagreed with the merger and founded a new party, calling it the SDP again and acting like it was the rightful successor. after a year or two the continuation party had been destroyed at every little election it had tried to fight, and it voted in favour of disbanding. however, a few activists disagreed with the disbanding and founded a new party, calling it the SDP AGAIN and acting like it was the rightful successor. this second continuation, this third SDP is what survives today
when reading about this party thirty years later, i’d found descriptions that they had become ‘economically left-wing but socially right-wing’ and tbh, i took them at their word. i were told they were communitarians, using traditionalist conservative moral frameworks to promote social democratic economics. that description is very, very wrong
this manifesto is deeply fascistic
i was expecting a couple of yikes moments, especially about trans people, and while there is truly an avalanche of transphobia and trans-hostile policy proposals, the fascistic nature is all over the place, especially on migration, hypernationalism and security. they are beyond Likud on some security matters – if the IRA came back under the SDP we’d be living in a hypermilitarised apartheid state before you can say boyfanny
the reason i’m covering this manifesto is because they’re comfortably the sixth largest party in terms of seats contested at 122, narrowly behind the workers’ party (though they have a suite of endorsed independents). i want you to look at this atrocity. i want you to see the number of votes they get in these 122 seats and despair. this is your country, this is your fascism
💷ECONOMY
abolish housing benefits
audit board of private industry to audit the entire public sector every three years
ban the public sector from buying from foreign manufacturers. at all.
stop benefits after six months. councils required to “hire” (force the labour of) six-monthers for random stuff like street sweeping
expand tax incentives for marriage
raise the minimum wage to 2/3 median wage
raise corporation tax to internationally standard levels, but instead rollout freeports and Special Economic Zones
introduce laws discriminating in favour of parents for redundancies, “protecting them” as a protected category in equality legislation
unilateral expansion of fishing. sorry iceland, it looks like we’ll be having another war
🏥PUBLIC SERVICES
renationalise rail, water and energy
require the showing of an ID card to access the NHS and basically any free public service to prevent its use by illegals. immigrants, when given ‘indefinite leave to remain’, STILL won’t get the right to use any service for ten entire years
massive rollout of elite selective schooling
reduce the number of bachelors’ degree places
force over-65s to do community service to pay for their eventual social care
“teaching will reflect Britain’s important contribution to the world in the context of its time. teachers will avoid advocacy of unorthodox or sectarian agendas”
fully nationalise the BBC to seize state control, requiring it to ‘promote national cohesion’
schools to confiscate all phones during the day and “impound” (their word) any found phone for two weeks
ban the NHS using any language other than english or welsh. whoops looks like they forgot to include BSL
the manifesto includes a whiny “charter” on “academic freedom”
mandatory one mile walk every day in schools
require international students to take a strict english test before being offered a place
“public funding of culture, media and sports organisations will be conditional on those organisations respecting the principles of balance and free speech. institutions that fail to do so, by censoring artefacts, promoting sectarian agendas or deterring people from civil discourse, will have funding withdrawn”
rewrite the PSHE curriculum to prioritise “parenting and household management”
🏠HOUSING
“the fundamental aim of national housing policy shall be to ensure that young people seeking to start a family will be able to find a suitable home in which to do so”
create a public company to create 100k new social houses a year
discriminate in favour of the married and veterans for council and social housing
suspend but later reintroduce right to buy with a one-in-one-out clause
ban buy-to-let
👮FORCE
“restore the offence of sedition and actively use this law to pursue those who incite terrorism overtly or covertly, or who act in flagrant support of the UK’s enemies”
abolish the supreme court and transfer its powers to the house of lords, which due to reform will be more politically partisan
leave the UN refugee convention
abolish the human rights act
abolish the european convention on human rights
leave the council of europe
surge defence spending
surge funding for MI5 and the NCA
surge police funding and pursue an aggressive broken windows policy
double all sentences for violent crime, and for any repeat offence
mandatory minimum of ten years after three serious offences
mandatory hard labour for parolees for two years after release
all non-citizen prisoners to be deported and permabanned after release
any legally resident non-citizen to be deported for “any act considered materially hostile to Britain’s social peace”
“prisons will become safe, orderly institutions - whatever it takes”
asphyxiating migration cap of 50k/a, but “agreements between key strategic partners may result in selective exemptions if clearly in the national interest” (ie, we’ll let in anglophones, but probably not anglophones from africa or asia or the caribbean )
“promote a generation-long cessation of mass migration”
cease all aid for ukraine
🌱CLIMATE ?
“overrwhelming focus on climate ‘catastrophe’ is fostering anxiety and despair in children. from early years to key stage 3, all children will learn about British wildlife. the Natural History GCSE will [teach] the inspiring achievements of Britain’s pioneering naturalists”
abandon net zero
re-legalise fracking and expand oil and gas
pursue energy autarky where the country always has 12 months’ supply of fossil fuels
prohibit the rewilding of farmland
create no new low emissions zones
the fishing industry to oversee existing marine protection areas and any proposal for any new ones
🗳️DEMOCRACY
english parliament for english people
explicitly codify the fact that scotland can’t leave
proportional representation (specifically STV) for the commons
evict the hereditary lords and bishops but keep the appointees, capped at 400 with 15 year terms and appointed by committee
increase the powers of parish councils
🏳️‍⚧️REACTIONARY AGENDA, other than everything else
strip trans people of discrimination protections in both the equality and gender recognition acts to protect “sex-baesd rigths”
catastrophic reduction in NHS funding for trans healthcare, remaining funds to be for “psychological intervention” (state-mandated conversion therapy)
mandatory profiling of all trans people for all public data for all purposes by keeping separate sex and gender categories across the ENTIRE public sector
ban ALL pharmacological care for trans minors
ban trans women using women’s shelters
ban trans participation in sports competition
force trans prisoners to be incarcerated at the prison for the opposite sex
all public sector DEI to be stopped, so goes the policy
introduce a bad internet bill, require id for porn sites, require all tech companies to “promote free speech”
mandatory spyware on all devices: “a digital border application will be created to detect digital content which is malignantly pornographic, supportive of terrorism or otherwise contrary to law. all internet service providers operating in the UK will be required to utilise this scanning software and take steps to block undesirable content.” all smartphones “sold to or used by” an under-16 to have mandatory age restrictions

The Last Starfighter: 40 Years Later
Tumblr media
“GREETINGS STARFIGHTER! YOU HAVE BEEN RECRUITED BY THE STAR LEAGUE TO DEFEND THE FRONTIER AGAINST XUR AND THE KO-DAN ARMADA.”
Tumblr media
With those two sentences that came right from the speaker of the cabinet of the – fictional -- arcade game Starfighter, an incredible adventure will began for Alex Rogan!
A young man living in a trailer park, Rogan has great expectations but his chances of success are against all odds. Just when his dream of a higher education was shattered, he received a chance of a lifetime. The Starfighter game was also a test to find those with “the gift” to be real starfighters by breaking the record on it.
And as the poet said, the rest is history...
Tumblr media
"Welcome to Rylos, my boy!"
In 1971, the first arcade videogame was released, Computer Space. A decade later, arcade videogames became a pop culture phenomenon.
They were in every place, not only in bars, game rooms, bowling allies and amusement parks. They were also supermarkets, theatre lobbies and also in odd places like laundromats and funeral homes opened places for gamers eager to play them.
Arcade games became an icon of the 80s!
In that decade, a technological development was also creating a revolution in the communications industry, particullry the visual media, computer generated imagery, commonly known as CGI.
In 1982, Walt Disney Pictures released the first movie with an extensive use of CGIs, Tron. Two years later, the formely known a Metro Goldwyn Mayer, Lorimar Productions decided to take the CGIs out of this world with The Last Starfigther.
About the production:
While writer Jonathan R. Betuel was on his lunch break from his then regular job, he went to an arcade and got the first idea for The Last Starfighter. It was also heavily influenced by his reading of T. H. White's The Once and Future King. Hence, in the script, Grig tells Centauri about “the Excalibur trick.”
Tumblr media
In the first draft, Alex Rogan was suppossed to live in a suburban area. It was changed in favor of a trailer park. Director Nick Castle made the change in favor of giving his film its own identity.
The Canyon Country, a neighborhood in Santa Clarita, California was used for the Starlite Starbrite Trailer Park setting.
Tumblr media
With exception of the makeup and explosions, all the other special effects for the movie were computer graphics done by Digital Productions using the -- then powerful -- the Cray X-MP supercomputer.
27 of the 101 minutes of the film's running time were rendered by DP.
Tumblr media
The Star Car was built by the famous car designer and builder, Gene Winfield. He also designed and built the Galileo 7 shuttlecraft for Star Trek: The Original Series.
Tumblr media
About the legacy...
The Last Starfighter made 29 millon Dollars at the box office in North America, recovering its budget of 15 million Dollar but not quite a smash hit. Its producers consider it as “the most expensive B movie ever made.” It became a cult film, with an extensive following.
A musical adaptation was produced at the Storm Theatre Off-Off Broadway in New York City in October 2004. A recording of the performance was published in November 2005.
A novelization of the film was written by Alan Dean Foster. A comic book was published in issue 31 of Marvel Super Special by Marvel Comics. It was adapted to the format by writer Bill Mantlo and artists Bret Blevins and Tony Salmons. It was also available as a three-issue miniseries.
Tumblr media
In the same year of its debut, producer of tabletop miniature war games, FASA, published three game based on the movie: Combat Game, Duel In Space and Tunnel Chase.
Videogame manufacturer, Atari Games, had plans to publish and arcade game and its conversions for their consoles and personal computer but neither of them saw the daylight as games from The Last Starfighter.

40 years later...
I had the chance of watching The Last Starfigther when it made its debut in a double feature with Sixteen Candles. Not a contender to dethrone the Star Wars movie franchise. But indeed, it was more a motivational film for me.
It showed me that sometimes extraordinary things can happen to ordinary people, like me. When you came from places like a trailer park, or a public housing complex, you do not expect something wonderful to happen, but chances are.
Just listen to the words of advice from Otis – character played by actor Vernon Washington:
Tumblr media
“Things change. Always do. You'll get your chance! Important thing is, when it comes, you gotta grab it with both hands and hold on tight!”
Enjoy the movie...

When Labour was elected with a big majority, there was a great sense of expectation of a sea change, and that the historical debt of the Labour Party to the miners would be redressed. There would be a serious program of social and economic regeneration for the former coalfield areas, hinging on the provision of decent, well-paid manufacturing jobs, not only for the current miners but also for the future generations. Then, it became clear that Blair’s view of regeneration was to sell these areas to mobile international capital. Some of it originated from the United States, some from Southeast Asia. Blair’s policy didn’t produce enough jobs, and the jobs that it did produce bore no comparison, in terms of wages, to those that had been available in the mines. Many of these jobs were not in manufacturing, but instead in call centers — they were poorly paid, part-time, and often precarious. The new economy that Blair’s government built up was not at all what people had expected, and it did not fit with what they were led to believe was Labour’s commitment to the coalfield areas. Having hit a high point in electoral support for Blair in 1997, the Labour Party had its support progressively eroded after that, as people became more and more disillusioned with the Thatcherite policies the Labour Party had pursued and the party’s inability to effectively combat the austerity politics of the Tory coalition in 2010. The opportunity to express disillusionment came with the Brexit vote. Those who had suffered as a consequence of industrial decline and the subsequent austerity policies of the previous two or three governments could voice their opposition to the political establishment. The Conservatives were largely in favor of Brexit. Senior figures in the Labour Party wanted to stay in Europe. In a sense, staying in Europe was seen as a sort of a class project — a certain fraction of the educated, middle-class political establishment had an interest in remaining in Europe. Brexit provided an opportunity for those in the areas that had suffered as a result of the previous thirty or forty years of economic policy to say, “If you’re in favor, we’re not. We’re not necessarily against our brothers in Europe, but we’ve had enough of being treated this way, and both major political parties have ignored our legitimate demands for decades.” This trend manifested in the subsequent election results. In 2019, Boris Johnson returned with a massive majority. In the North East, sometimes for the first time ever, conservative MPs were returned in districts like Blair’s, which had been solidly Labour for as long as anybody could remember. Something similar happened in South Wales: The Labour vote declined, but the opposition vote was split between the Tories and Plaid Cymru, the nationalist party. Labour held onto the seats, but Brexit was a turning point in Labour support in these areas. People wanted something different.

Vaping vs. Smoking: The Ongoing Debate on the Health Impacts of E-Cigarettes
E-cigarettes, also known as electronic cigarettes or vape pens, have become increasingly popular in recent years as an alternative to smoking traditional cigarettes. E-cigarettes work by heating a liquid (often containing nicotine) and creating a vapor that is inhaled by the user. While some people believe that e-cigarettes are a healthier alternative to traditional cigarettes, the debate over the safety of e-cigarettes is ongoing.
Tumblr media
Let's take a closer look at what e-cigarettes are and how they work.
E-cigarettes are battery-powered devices that heat a liquid (called e-juice or e-liquid) to create a vapor that is inhaled by the user. The liquid typically contains nicotine, flavorings, and other chemicals. E-cigarettes come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from small, cigarette-like devices to larger, more elaborate vaporizers.
Proponents of e-cigarettes argue that they are a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes because they do not contain tobacco, which is responsible for many of the harmful chemicals found in traditional cigarettes. While e-cigarettes do contain nicotine, which is an addictive substance, they do not produce the same harmful chemicals such as tar and carbon monoxide. In addition, some people find that e-cigarettes are a helpful tool in quitting smoking, as they can gradually reduce the amount of nicotine they consume.
However, opponents of e-cigarettes argue that they are not as safe as they are often portrayed to be. While e-cigarettes may produce fewer harmful chemicals than traditional cigarettes, they still contain a number of potentially harmful chemicals, such as formaldehyde and acetaldehyde. Additionally, e-cigarettes can deliver high levels of nicotine to the user, which can be addictive and harmful to the developing brains of adolescents.
So, what does the research say about e-cigarettes and their impact on smokers' health? The truth is that there is still a lot we don't know about the long-term health effects of e-cigarettes. While some studies have suggested that e-cigarettes may be a less harmful alternative to traditional cigarettes, other studies have found that e-cigarettes can still have harmful effects on the lungs and cardiovascular system. For example, a study published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine found that e-cigarette use was associated with increased inflammation and reduced immune function in the lungs.
In addition to the potential health effects of e-cigarettes themselves, there are concerns about the impact of e-cigarettes on public health more broadly. Some studies have suggested that e-cigarettes may be a gateway to smoking traditional cigarettes, particularly among young people. Additionally, there are concerns about the impact of e-cigarette vapor on bystanders, as the vapor can contain harmful chemicals.
Despite the ongoing debate about the safety of e-cigarettes, it is clear that more research is needed to fully understand their impact on smokers' health. In the meantime, it is important for individuals who are concerned about their health to quit smoking altogether, rather than relying on e-cigarettes as a "safer" alternative. If you are struggling to quit smoking, talk to your healthcare provider about effective strategies for quitting, such as nicotine replacement therapy or counseling. Remember, the best way to protect your health is to quit smoking altogether.
When considering the broader landscape of healthcare solutions, it is important to recognize the role of pharmaceutical companies in providing quality medicines and innovative treatments. Madhya Pradesh, a state in central India, has emerged as a hub for the pharmaceutical industry. Companies like Pharma Company in Madhya Pradesh have established themselves as leading players in this region. Cities like Gwalior, Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and Khandwa are home to top pharmaceutical manufacturers, distributors, and providers of healthcare solutions. These companies contribute to the availability of affordable and accessible pharmaceutical products, ensuring that individuals in cities like Damoh, Bhind, and other regions of Madhya Pradesh have access to high-quality medications. The pharmaceutical industry in Madhya Pradesh continues to grow, offering diverse opportunities such as pharma franchise opportunities for entrepreneurs interested in making a difference in the healthcare sector.

CPLT-BW-E "EM4" (aka "Creole")
Tumblr media
(Creole was designed by yours truly, but belongs to @sapphic-design-is-my-passion / @the-emmapult . Art was done by the ever talented @cromwell300 !)

┊ ┊⋆ ┊ . 𝓬𝓸𝓵𝓭-𝓱𝓮𝓪𝓻𝓽𝓮𝓭 𝓹𝓸𝓮𝓽𝓲𝓬 𝓳𝓾𝓼𝓽𝓲𝓬𝓮 ◞ . ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ⤸ @naitfall In modern au, what kind of profession/job would Laura choose?
Watch me get so hyped about this ask because there are so many options and different ways to go about it that I'd have to separate them into more then one verse-
Tumblr media
modern verse (main) - heir of the Alexander enterprise, a large conglomerate involved in various industries, including technology, manufacturing, real estate, automobiles, telecommunications, etc. her father wants her to marry and have a son to inherit the company, but she is more inclined to run it herself. While in her early 20s, and because as a daughter (in her fathers eyes) he doesn't want to give her the responsibility of the company, she is more easily overlooked by him, which she uses that leeway of freedom by abandoning bodyguards, never saying where she is (they have to track her down) and spending a lot of her time traversing the streets. She has a few friends who live in the more dangerous areas (which would be her former comrades in the survey corps in the snk universe). She ice-skates and that for her is a passion.
modern verse (teacher - school / college) - I wondered if she'd be a teacher but honestly Laura would work in Administration, and god do the teachers dislike her, because she will enforce them rules and regulations to a detriment. She acts like she owns the school because of how strict she can be, and how she speaks to the teachers and students. She was engaged (still to Rickard Albrecht) but it ended due to her family influence, so she still goes by the family name Alexander, but she's cut off ties with her family.
modern verse (MP version - patrol inquiry officer) - and the final version is Laura, similar to main, joining the police force to start a career path of her own. She wanted to jump right into being a detective or forensic investigator, but she's still early on in her career and starts off as a patrol officer. She's the insufferable rookie who acts like she is in charge, and even though she follows the rules she often gets too involved and goes beyond her job role.
