The latest Futurama episode was hilarious, and the scenes where Newt was carried by Amy and especially Kif gave me pure serotonin.

I also liked the part where Fry sat with the Kroker kids to watch the Rankin Bass movie and he was the only one who didn’t have his eyes covered when Santa got violent and then he cried with the three kids when they learned the horrible truth.

I am now in a world with no more Queen’s Thief books to look forward to, but what a marvelous ride it was. This is now one of my favorite series, and I eagerly look forward to whatever Megan Whalen Turner does next. 

Also, I didn’t mean to read two beauty and the beast retellings back-to-back, but it was fun to compare them. The highlight was T. Kingfisher’s Bryony and Roses, which was absolutely lovely.

Talaqqi Qira’at Riwayat Imam ‘Ashim

Hanya 10 hari, rasanya belum cukup untuk menggali ilmu Allah yang sangat luas. Sementara diri ini sangat terbatas. Meski sebentar, tapi kenangan setiap harinya akan terus membekas.

Aku akan selalu rindu suasana komplek PT PUSRI yang rindang lengkap dengan masjid Aqobahnya yang sangat “hidup”. Hingga malam-malam panjang saat itu terasa singkat seperti Ramadhan. Syahdu, penuh keberkahan🥹

Aku juga tidak akan lupa momen-momen sulit ketika talaqqi pertama yang bahkan untuk menyelesaikan 1 juz butuh waktu 6 jam lamanya. Dari isti’adzah bahkan sampai ketika mengucapkan lafazh “Barakallah” saja tak luput jadi bahan koreksi ustadz. Betapa semakin belajar kita akan sadar bahwa masih banyak lagi yang perlu kita pelajari.

Selain halaqoh talaqqi yang penuh kenikmatan, berkumpul dengan orang-orang sholih juga menularkan semangat. Ada pensiunan pejabat PUSRI yang meski menjadi paling senior di antara kami, tapi semangatnya paling membara. Ada juga Pak RT yang di tengah kesibukannya mengurusi umat tetap berjuang untuk bisa hadir di setiap halaqoh. Yang jauh dari Muara Enim pun ada. Belum lagi para pekerja yang meski tidak libur, tapi tidak menjadikan itu alasan untuk meninggalkan kesempatan emas ini.

Di sana juga aku dipertemukan sengan sahabat baru yang meski baru bertemu dan kenal di saat itu juga, tapi terasa seperti saudara yang sudah kenal sejak lama. Mitha yang sejak halaqoh pertama tak pernah putus asa untuk berlatih huruf isti’la, qolqolah dan semua catatan yang diberikan padanya. Juga Resty yang meski harus berbagi waktu dalam kesibukannya tapi tetap berjuang dengan maksimal. Melihatnya aku seperti diberi gambaran “mastato’thum” dalam kehidupan nyata. Meski di malam terakhir demam dan kedinginan, ia tetap hadir dengan jaket tebal yang menyelimutinya.

Dan dua bersaudara Dhiya dan Syasya yang punya sosok ibu luar biasa sehingga di usia muda mereka meraih prestasi yang jauh melampaui usianya. Bacaan mereka jangan ditanya, wong mereka murid Ustadz dari sejak belia🥹 masya Allah.

Rindu juga sama kamar 210 Wisma Delima yang serasa hotel bintang 4nya PUSRI dengan kamar mandi estetik yang ada showernya😅 Rindu juga jokes bapak-bapak yang receh tapi menggelitik juga. Rindu ngebandrek untuk nahan ngantuk halaqoh malam. Rindu makan 3x sehari yang hampir selalu nasi padang🤭

Masya Allah. Nikmatnya berkumpul dengan orang-orang sholih. Semoga Allah beri kesempatan untuk terus belajar Al-Qur’an. Aamiin.

karen jackson and debbie gallagher.

something i’ve briefly mentioned before is how similar the characters karen jackson and debbie gallagher are, and i’m going to try to articulate my views the best i can, but it’s kind of hard to explain because there is so much to say.

so, i’m not going to start off with the heavy stuff, just the basic similarities. for the record, i like debbie a lot more than karen because despite them doing similar things, karen’s intentions were always much more malicious.

a basic similarity between them are their parents. sheila and monica and frank and eddie aren’t very similar, but they are in the basic ways. karen and debbie were both raised by mentally ill mothers who were never able to do enough or be there for their daughters. their daughters ended up parenting them more than they parented their daughters. as for their fathers, they were physically present, but never emotionally present. eddie was more financially stable, and i don’t remember if he was an alcoholic, i don’t think he was, but regardless, they were both that type of father. and, they were always fighting with their wife, giving their daughter an unhealthy relationship with the men in her life.

karen lost her virginity at 11, debbie at 14. karen sexualized herself a lot, and so did debbie. both of them most likely attached their worth to their bodies, we know that debbie did. this doesn’t really count, but both girls are queer (karen is bi and debbie is a lesbian).

then, the rape. or the, as matty calls it, “statutory raping yourself”. for karen, she had the intention of raping frank. she saw him stumble into the basement, drowsy due to the pain medication (that he actually needed for his injury), started recording, and had sex with him, despite him begging her to stop. she recorded it to not only piss off her own father, but so that when someone with authority would stumble across the recording, frank would be arrested for statutory rape, because despite what happened, legally, karen was raped. for debbie, she doesn’t mean to. she’s told by people like mandy, (kind of lip), holly, and ellie that consent is something it isn’t, and she assumes that consent is basically just him being erect. she doesn’t even know what statutory rape is, or that when you’re drunk you can’t consent (i mean for fuck’s sake, look at frank and monica, who was going to tell her that?). but, karen and debbie basically did the same thing. guy much older than them is intoxicated, and then they have sex with them. the intentions were different, debbie wanted to lose her virginity and pursue a relationship with matty, and karen wanted revenge + frank to be arrested.

then, the baby-trapping. i have mixed emotions about them both in this case. for karen, she gets pregnant with a child that isn’t lip’s, and technically she doesn’t say it is lip’s, but she doesn’t deny that it is, either. i honestly wouldn’t consider it baby-trapping had she not said in 3x09 that all she needs to do to get lip back is “poke a hole in a condom” because it worked last time. debbie did mean to baby-trap derek, but her intentions were different. debbie heard from derek’s sister-in-law (or whatever the fuck she was lol) that if she had a baby with derek, she would get to be apart of a new, loving family. something that at the time, she didn’t really have (of course the gallagher’s love eachother, but season 5 was not a good time for them). so, she lies about being on birth control to derek (just like karen did to lip/timmy wong because according to lip, she was on the pill), has sex with him, and gets pregnant with franny. she’s so excited, and tells derek, and tries to start planning a family with derek, but derek runs away, and ditches her. the big difference is that karen didn’t want hymie, and debbie really wanted franny. plus, derek didn’t want franny (until later on but like fuck you derek), and lip really wanted hymie, (until he found out that hymie wasn’t his).

and we know that karen used to be a sweet little girl with a good relationship with her father, who fell victim to the world around her and was ruined. does that sound familiar? does the scene where karen destroys the basement in her dress, screaming about how she hates her father while her mother comforts her remind you of debbie hitting frank while her family watches in shock? it should.

they both get shitty endings, too. they started off as great characters, and then just were ruined. i love debbie’s character arc, especially in season 11, and i don’t necessarily think her story was ruined, but as a person she was. for karen, she was literally just ruined. like, they sent her off of the show by giving her brain damage and having her move to arizona to get some weird fake healing thing. debbie was just given a shitty, dangerous girlfriend who could probably hurt her or franny and also intends on leaving her and going to texas.

Entah judul ini nyambung atau tidak dengan alur yang akan aku ceritakan ini, yang penting aku suka sama judulnya 😄

Jadi bulan lalu aku mengantar jamaah umroh untuk proses pembuatan paspor. Perasaanku saja atau memang benar, tapi 6 jamaah pasangan suami istri ini cukup membuatku senyum-senyum sendiri. Selain tingkahnya lucu, aku juga ikut merasakan sakinah-mawadah-warohmah dari cara mereka memperlakukan satu sama lain.

Pasangan pertama sudah sangat sepuh, kira-kira usia 70 tahun. Pasangan kedua sekitar 60 tahun (seorang duda pensiunan) yang menikah dengan ibu-ibu sekitar usia 35 tahun. Pasangan ketiga ini masih muda, sekitar 38 tahun dan seumuran.

Mereka ini kemana-mana selalu beiringan, bahkan bergandengan. Saling mencari satu sama lain ketika berpencar padahal bagiku tidak terlalu jauh. Di perjalanan pulang ada pertanyaan yang membuatku kaget.

“Mba bisa tidak kita sekamar dengan suami sendiri-sendiri?” Dari ibu-ibu 35 tahun yang suaminya pensiunan

“Bisa bu kalau upgrade kamar berdua jadi nambah biayanya” jawabku

“Gini lo mbak, suamiku bingungan nek apa-apa kudu disiapne istrine” sambutnya lagi

Aku cuman senyum sambil melihat ekspresi beliau yang lucu. Dalam hatiku “oh ternyata ada perempuan yang mau menikahi laki-laki dengan jarak 20 tahun dengan ketulusan, alis tidak karena hartanya. Karena ibu ini benar-benar merawat dah memperhatikan suaminya”

Di sahut oleh mbah putri yang usianya 70 tahun “Apalagi simbah kakung kui mesti bingungan bongkar baju. Ora iso mbak opo-opo mesti aku”

“Iyo jelas nek ra karo wong wedok ki bingungan” kata mbah-mbah kakung itu bersamaan.

Batinku “Apakah Ini yang namanya ketergantungan??”

Seumur hidup itu lama, hal-hal kecil akan terasa besar ketika tidak dilakukan, dan yang biasanya selalu melayani akan resah jika tidak di layani. Seperti bapak yang selalu bingung ketika pulang kerja ibu tidak ada, seperti bapak yang tiba-tiba marah padahal ibu lagi di masjid. Padahal ada aku yang bisa bikin kopi dan menyiapkan air hangat untuk mandi, tapi pada akhirnya ibu yang ngalahi tidak pergi kemana-mana sebelum bapak pulang.

Atau seperti di FYP “Ketika suami tidak ada bisa angkat galon,pasang gas, tapi setelah suami ada semuanya terasa tidak bisa wkwkw”
