Day 4, well quite a busy day yesterday. After opting for a last minute hotel instead of sleeping in the van (wise move), I went back to Przemysl to see if help was needed. On the way there I picked up a local old man who was hitchhiking. He spoke about as much English as my Polish. That is maybe unfair to him, I did find out his daughter lives in Coventry.
First side mission complete, I scoured Facebook for people seeking help. Lublin to Katowace was on the cards for a few hours, but they realised a train was possible eventually. Just as well as it was 3 hours just to get to Lublin, then another 5 hours to Katowace.
I went down to Przemysl station, it was much busier than the day before. I later realised that although people were sleeping at the station and taking road transport away, the vast majority were just changing trains. After the crowd disapated I left my phone number with the information desk, they said they would call if help was needed. I made sandwiches out of the back of the van, in the rain, then went for a coffee. My standard order of decaf cappuccino with non-dairy milk was eventually interpreted and I enjoyed some downtime.
My thoughts were that maybe my help was not needed, a lot of free rail and bus transport is on offer. I decided to check out Medyka station, this was right on the border and was where the peak traffic to Przemysl was coming from. I looked around Medyka but couldn’t find much happening (it turns out I was looking in the wrong place).
Before I changed course I made one last effort at Przemysl station, it was around 3pm and a lot of media were around. Sky news set up right next to me, they were expecting the next train from Medyka. Before that it was comparatively quiet. When things got busy I showed my Google translate assisted placard to the new arrivals. A young Ukrainian man who spoke English assured me the sign was not gibberish. Nevertheless it was clear there would be no takers.
I was about to head back to Krakow and possibly draw the trip to a close when someone on a Facebook group told me about a humanitarian centre in Przemysl. This is where I should have started. A lot of people are sheltering there and many charities are based at that location. I approached a desk displaying a Union Jack and before too long I was driving a full van in a convoy to a location about 1 hour away.
Tumblr media
A charity from Bristol (Love Bristol) are looking after those seeking refuge in the UK. Because the UK government are taking 2 weeks to process a visa these refugees needed staging accommodation. Not ideal but many times better than sleeping enmasse in corridors and warehouses. When we arrived at the staging house (with 8 passengers) two of the young boys didn't want to leave the van. They didn't even cry, just sat there sad and frozen. They just wanted to be home I'm sure. It was dark, raining and seemingly in the middle of nowhere. This moment kept me awake last night. Terrible and unfair.
Whilst I waited for members of the charity to help them settle in, I booked a hotel. With only a few minutes to do this I just opted for something cheap and not too far away. Little did I know it was miles up a single track road, the sat nav only managed to get me near but there was no sign of life. Due to intense fog, I could see nothing, just a couple of houses with no lights. I phoned for help, the hotelier spoke no English so woke up an English girl who was staying there. Thankfully she set me right and many precarious three point turns later, avoiding deep ditches on the side of the road, I was greated by a lovely Polish woman who managed to make me understand enough Polish to orientate myself - all from the comfort of her dressing gown.
I made a tin of baked beans hot and ate a protein chocolate bar for my 11:30pm dinner then failed miserably to get to sleep. By 2 am I was finally away and slept very well. It turns out I was a short walk from the Ukrainian border, next to a monestry. The picture of the pope on my bedroom wall was maybe a clue, it raised a smile on my arrival. I definitely had some luck that day to end up getting a good night's sleep.

Conan Share Earth-Shaking Set at The Live Room in Belfast (plus Interview!)
~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~
Tumblr media
Doomed & Stoned is proud to partner with CONAN and The Live Room Belfast to share this striking live studio performance of the band playing three of their standards: "Total Conquest," "Satsumo," and "Gravity Chasm." This comes just weeks ahead of Conan's new album, 'Existential Void Guardian' (2018), releasing September 14th on Napalm Records.
Start Together Studio recently launched The Live Room Belfast to invite touring bands in for special recordings, usually between 3-5 songs, as a way to capture the intimacy of a live studio performance. This set was recorded, mixed, and edited by Niall Doran, with help from Assistant Audio Engineer Paddy McEldowney, and filmed by Ciara McMullan. The team did a fantastic job of capturing the massive weight of the Liverpool trio's legendary riffs and especially the fearsome caveman vocals of frontman Jon Davis.
This all took place on May 16th, the morning before Conan took the stage with Monolord and Elder Druid at Voodoo Belfast for an unforgettable show. Jon also sat down with Elder Druid guitarist Jake Wallace (who organized our recent Doomed & Stoned in Ireland compilation) for an in-depth interview.
And now, it's time for Jon Davis (guitar/vox), Chris Fielding (bass), and Johnny King (drums) do their thing! Enjoy...

Interview with Jon Davis of Conan

Do you enjoy being on the road so much?
Yeah, we do. We have always tried to tour as much as possible, ever since the very beginning. I remember the first time we played outside of Liverpool with Charger in late 2010, and that was a really big thing, something we were pushing for to try and breakout of Liverpool gigs. We almost immediately started getting opportunities to tour and play, and for a year or so it was just weekends here and there, I really loved that. Then we got the opportunity to go touring around Europe. Of course, that brought its own problem then, because we had to get a van, so we invested a bit of money in an old Ford Transit. And I remember spending nearly £600 on installing a cool sound system in there, so that we could listen to Iron Maiden on the road full blast. Like with speakers right by our heads in the bulkhead.
There's something about being on the road, and everyday just looking forward to playing the music that you've written, and the law of seeing the reaction of people who are listening to your music, that you've written sometimes easily, sometimes songs have come together when they've been difficult to write. I've always found it really rewarding to play music, whether I'm on my own, or whether in the practice room with the lads, or whether onstage. And I remember when I was 16, promising myself I would do this, telling myself that I'm gonna play music cause I saw playing music as a long term thing that I would be in charge of. I never really wanted to work for anyone else, I always wanted to do music, and I remember as a shy and less than confident teenager, thinking this is a path that I can grow, and I really enjoy, something I could do for the rest of my life, hopefully.
When I get too old to lug cabs then I'll just pick up an acoustic, and do something with that. So getting on the road has been something we've loved from day one, and now were touring all over the world. This year already, we've had a US of 5 weeks, we've been to Japan for a week, and we've got more far-flung shows lined up for the end of the year, not announced yet, plus European tours, another UK Tour, and we've got an album out soon. I mean it's just -- we love it. I couldn't do anything else now, if I had to have an office job, I'd probably commit suicide, seriously. (laughs)
What make Monolord the perfect match for this tour, and will you be back in Ireland anytime soon?
I mean, we wanted a band as physically attractive as us, and we've finally done it with Monolord. Seriously though, they are a really cool band, they are really good people to tour with, they're professional, friendly, really interesting people, and they come from a different culture to ours, and we enjoy being on the road with them. We're not sharing a van with them, although we have done, we shared a night liner with them in October last year. And we didn't know what to expect then, as we didn't know them very well on that tour, but we got along really well. They're from a different culture but very similar people, at the same time, at the core of what we all are in a love for music, and they put their money where their mouth is, in terms of that. They also like to tour a lot, they release really great music, and they're a really good live act. So when you are choosing a band to tour with, our booking agent puts forward bands and it was really natural, that us and Monolord tour together. It's cool that we get to this joint headliner, switch headliners every night. Yeah, they're just great. I mean, I don't think we've ever toured with a band that we didn't really like, some more than others, obviously, but they are cool as fuck.
Tumblr media
I suppose it's an interesting parallel, between both bands having three members, you get to see how another band performs as a three piece as well every night. Tell us about the origin of the band name, and how you guys have created a genre known as 'Caveman Battle Doom.'
Well, Conan could have been called anything, really, from '70s and '80s science fiction movies. You know, Krull was one idea that I had for a band name, very briefly I thought about that. We were called Elf-Beater for a time in our practice room -- that's obviously an awful name so we were never going to use that one long term. Conan just came to me one day, you know, I was going through some personal stuff and I'd had to move into my parent's for a little while, and I started this band up with an old friend of mine who was a bass player, but he played drums a little bit. So we started and we actually wrote and recorded "Satsuma." We had these songs, and we didn't really have a settled name. We were going to call ourselves Pazuzu for a little while or Demon-Demaro, as like a Bebo page in that name. There's some really old demos if you can search for that.
Initially, I wanted it to be a little bit occult-ish type of stuff, and then quickly I realised the lyrics weren't really going in that direction, and we were more about Sword & Sorcery, Science Fiction, and Mythology. Then I remember sitting there one day just kind of thinking, "What do I for a band name?" and then it just came to me. And it stuck, there wasn't really any other bands, well there was an Argentina metal band called Conan, but I think they had expired in the '80s, so there was nothing, no current bands within our scene, with that name, or anything close to it, so we grabbed it with both hands.
How did the name 'Caveman Battle Doom' come about?
The very first show that Conan did in Liverpool was with friends of ours, John McNulty and Gemma McNulty. They weren't married then but they are now, and they're really close of mine, and the band, they recorded at our studio. But they put us on our first ever show, when it was just me and Paul O'Neil, a two piece, and on the poster for that show, I think it said "primitive battle doom," "caveman battle doom," or "caveman doom." The label we were on, fast forward a couple of months, we recorded Horseback Battle Hammer and we released stuff on CD with Aurora-Borealis Records. They used that phrase as part of their sales pitch, on the website, taking it from that first ever poster, and then we thought we’d put that on a t-shirt because it looks cool and it sounds cool and those t-shirts just sold like hot cakes. So we thought, that's a cool name to make a joke about. Obviously, we haven't created our own genre; it would be awesome if we did cause we'd obviously make loads of money then, but it's just a bit of fun.
I know yourself are involved in Black Bow Records and Chris is involved in Skyhammer. How did both of those projects come around? Was it through the band that this became something you were interested in, or what was the path towards a label and a studio?
When I moved into a large house in a rural location, not far from Liverpool/Chester, there was a couple of extra buildings. One of them was a large coach-house and I actually wanted to turn that into a rehearsal studio initially. But it needed a lot of building work, which would have cost a lot of money, so I thought, "I wonder if I could somehow turn this into something that would repay some of that investment? So I'll do a practice room and then I may be able to rent the practice room out to bands." And I thought, "Nah, I don't think that will make generate enough money to make it worthwhile, unless we have people in there all the time." And if we did that, it could just be people in there 2-3 hours at a time and it would be a bit of a nightmare to manage, with it being a home. I then thought of, "Well I could turn it into a recording studio." So I got a couple of quotations for layout and stuff like that. It became obvious that it was going to be really expensive to do. So I thought, "I'll do that and see if I can maybe learn the ropes, I might work in there myself as a recording engineer."
For an extremely short-lived time I recorded bands in their practice rooms. I had one band ask for a refund, so then I thought, "Maybe I need to practice a little bit more." So I was going to set up the studio and decided not to, in the end, when Chris got in touch. Me and Chris had been friends and I'd been asking him what microphones to get and what stuff do I need really to set up a studio. We got chatting then one day out of the blue, and he wrote to me saying he had a really crazy idea and could he ring me. So I said okay. He gave me a call and Chris' idea was that he would come and work in the studio and take over and run it, and I waited a little bit and spoke to my wife. Then in the morning, we chatted again and it became obvious that yeah, it was going to be a great idea. Chris and I started working in the studio from August 2013, the build started in May the same year. We had a company called Studio People do it and they were brilliant.
Tumblr media
The first band in there were called Bast and they came into the studio. They didn't have a label, I think they had been in talks with Candlelight Records, but nothing had been agreed at that point. So they recorded this album called Spectres and I said, "Why don't I just release it for you?" It was cool to release the first thing we ever recorded at the studio and that album did quite well. I had to repress it and then another band came in and I released theirs, as well. Then I spoke to Fister and Norska from America, I did a 7-inch split. Before you know it, I'm releasing music from bands all over and it's just snowballed. I didn't expect it to and I didn't really try very hard, to be honest.
I'm still learning all the time about running the label, make mistakes all the time, but I love it and it fits in nicely with the band, fits in nicely with the studio. I'm able to really diversify within music now, because obviously everyone has to earn a living somehow and unless you're very lucky, you can't earn a living from just the band. Some people can, but I can't, so I have to add other things on to make it possible to have a career in music. So that's all I do now, thankfully.
You guys feature heavily in the upcoming documentary 'The Doom Doc' which is due out this summer. How important is a documentary like that in promoting the underground?
I think it's cool, because it engages with people who may not have necessarily have checked out the bands that are being talked about on it. It gives a good overview of what the scene is like and it's something that you can take all round the world. We're friends with Joe Allen, one of the lads who made the documentary, and we played in Japan with him recently and his band Kurokuma. We played a sell-out show in Tokyo in a venue called Earthdom, which hadn't sold out for ten years or so. And part of the reason why it sold out so well was because the documentary was really popular over there. It's really cool, because it's shone a light on the very grassroots level of heavy music in the UK and beyond, and I don't think a documentary has done that really for UK heavy music, the very grassroots level, or I've never seen one that does it. Obviously, in America you have Such Hawks, Such Hounds. It's good that something like that has been made in England.
Tumblr media
Finally, you've got the next album 'Existential Void Guardian' coming out in August. What can you tell us about that?
Well, it's all recorded and mastered now. We're just waiting on a video getting done for one of the songs and I'm not going to give any of the songs away, but it's cool, it's heavy as fuck, and we're really proud of it. It's the first album that we've done with Jonny on drums and it was quite a challenging album to make, because if we'd had anyone else on drums I don't think we'd have been able to manage it. But fortunately, Jonny being as professional as he is, he came in after touring with us for one month, just practicing a riff or two here or there in sound checks, and we sat down in the studio and we kind of wrote the drum parts of the album within a week -- or a weekend event, maybe 3-4 days -- so it came together. It wasn't easy, but the fact that it came together at all was a miracle, because we didn't allow ourselves the usual amount of time to write an album. So we pushed ourselves to the limit to get it written and get it to a level that were really happy with, because we wouldn't have released it otherwise. We wrote the drums and the guide guitar in the first few sessions, and then we went back and recorded guitar and bass, and when we got back from Japan we recorded vocals.
It came together in a different way to all the other albums. Maybe Revengeance was a bit like that, but everything up until then was the product of weekly practices, an hour or two every week. So we're kind of getting into this vein now, where we're writing music almost like as soon as we sit down. We get together and we can all play and write music together. It's really cool. I think a lot of that is to do with Jonny, because he's got a particular style that really blend in with what me and Chris are doing. It comes out mid-Sept. Tony Roberts is doing the artwork, as many people would expect, the artwork's cool. And we've got a really good video coming out, it's been done by the same people who shot the "Foehammer" video, and I gave them this idea of what I'd like them to do with this next video, and it's insane. It's everything I would ever want from a Conan video -- it's so sick, it's amazing.

Steffan Rhodri and Nathaniel Parker in THIS HOUSE at Chichester Festival Theatre. Photo by Johan Persson
Rehearsals began today (Monday 22nd January 2018) for the first UK tour of This House, which opens at West Yorkshire Playhouse on 23 February (national press night 28 February). The cast – who play a colourful host of MPs and Whips – is Ian Barritt (Batley & Morley/Woolwich West/Belfast North/Western Isles & Ensemble), William Chubb (Humphrey Atkins), Giles Cooper (Fred Silvester), Stephen Critchlow (Bromsgrove/Abingdon/Liverpool Edge Hill/Paisley/Fermanagh & Ensemble), James Gaddas (Walter Harrison), Natalie Grady (Ann Taylor), Ian Houghton (Armagh, Ambulance Man, Ensemble), David Hounslow (Joe Harper), Marcus Hutton (Ensemble), Harry Kershaw (Paddington South/Chelmsford/South Ayrshire/Henley/Marioneth /Coventry North West/Rushcliffe/Perry Barr & Ensemble), Louise Ludgate (Rochester & Chatham/Welwyn & Hatfield/Coventry South West/Ilford North/Lady Batley & Ensemble), Geoffrey Lumb (Clockmaker/Peebles/Redditch/Stirlingshire West/Clerk & Ensemble), Nicholas Lumley (Oxshott/Belfast West/St Helens & Ensemble), Martin Marquez (Bob Mellish), Matthew Pidgeon (Jack Weatherill), Miles Richardson (Speaker Act I/Mansfield/Sergeant at Arms Act II/West Lothian & Ensemble), Tony Turner (Michael Cocks), Orlando Wells (Walsall North/Plymouth Sutton/Serjeant at Arms Act I/Speaker Act II/Caernarfon/Clerk & Ensemble) and Charlotte Worthing (Ensemble). Ian Houghton, David Hounslow, Matthew Pidgeon, Tony Turner and Orlando Wells return to This House having previously appeared in the West End production.
James Graham’s critically acclaimed and prescient political drama takes on a new importance in the current political climate. Are we in the midst of a political revolution? Can the country stay united? Roll back to 1974… The corridors of Westminster ring with the sound of infighting and back biting as Britain’s political parties’ battle to change the future of the nation, whatever it takes.
In an era of chaos, both hilarious and shocking, when votes are won or lost by one, there are fist fights in the parliamentary bars, high-stakes tricks and games are played, and sick MPs are carried through the lobby to register their crucial votes as the government hangs by a thread. This House strips politics down to the practical realities of those behind the scenes; the whips who roll up their sleeves and on occasion bend the rules to shepherd and coerce a diverse chorus of MPs within the Mother of all Parliaments.
Directed by Jeremy Herrin with Jonathan O’Boyle, the production is designed by Rae Smith with lighting design by Paule Constable and Ben Pickersgill on tour, music by Stephen Warbeck, choreography by Scott Ambler and sound by Ian Dickinson.
This House is produced on tour by Jonathan Church Productions and Headlong.

Why Vietnamese are being TRAFFICKED into the UK
Tumblr media
A Sun Online investigation can reveal that behind Britain’s #cannabis trade lies a dark and shocking reality, in which around 3,000 #slavechildren are cultivating crops in dire conditions.
And most of those kids are Vietnamese teenage boys who have been ripped from their families by traffickers, who smuggle them into the UK and force them to work in secret drug dens in houses all over Britain. Once here, many endure horrific conditions, beatings and sexual abuse at the hands of gang masters. Children as young as 11 are forced to survive on scraps as they tend cannabis farms, and one man was even reduced to eating dog food to stay alive while he grew weed for gangs. Their suffering has led anti-slavery campaigners to coin the phrase ‘blood cannabis’, to reflect the true horror behind some of Britain’s £2.6bn-a-year illegal weed market, which sees an estimated 255 tonnes of weed smoked annually in the UK. The National Crime Agency says 96 per cent of trafficking victims forced to grow weed in Britain are Vietnamese, and 81 per cent of those are children. Many of them are dangerously smuggled into the UK in lorries — the death of 39 Vietnamese people, including 10 teenagers, in Essex in October highlighted the lethal peril of such journeys.

Tumblr media
Police are too busy to focus on weed farms Giant cannabis farms have been uncovered all over the UK — including in town centre bingo halls and even a disused police station — but thousands of smaller operations are being run all over the country. In London alone between 2016 and 2018, police found 314 illegal cannabis farms, but the true scale of cannabis growing in the UK will never be known as they're illegally run in residential properties and shop backrooms. For users, an eighth of an ounce (3.5g) of cannabis costs around £20, and a full ounce (28.3g) will set you back around £180 — which is cheaper than prices of legalised cannabis in the USA. Horrifyingly, government figures released last week show raids on cannabis farms have plummeted in the last seven years as police forces focus resources elsewhere. And millions of Brit users have helped the trade thrive — around 30 per cent of the UK population aged between 16 and 64 admit to having tried cannabis, which is roughly 10 million people.

Cops found £850,000 worth of weed in the unit - but this is just one of many illegal factories across the UKCredit: MEN Media Fingers cut off children The victims are children like Le, orphaned at just 11 years old. He was left saddled with loan shark debt from paying his dying mum’s hospital bills in his Vietnamese homeland. He was taken in by a convent - but was kidnapped by money lenders who demanded church elders hand over Le’s family land to settle the loan. Their ultimatum came with a grisly threat - a package containing Le’s severed finger. Although the church tried to help Le, he was put to work by his captors in a warehouse, where he was kept in chains and fed scraps. After being sold to a gang in China, he was sent on a perilous lorry journey across Europe to the UK. Forced to work on an illegal cannabis farm he grew so hungry he tried to eat the plants. When police raided the cannabis farm, he was rescued and taken into local authority care. But after meeting a man in a shopping centre who spoke Vietnamese, he was enslaved again and put to work in a warehouse. Phil Brewer, former head of the Met’s Anti-Trafficking Unit, says that’s because cannabis slaves are coached to mistrust the authorities. “They don’t speak the language and have nowhere to go,” he explained. “The fear factor takes over and they gravitate back to what they know, back to exploitation.” Le eventually managed to escape his new captors and was given refuge in a safe house by the Salvation Army. But they say he lived in fear of deportation or of being found by gang masters. One day, he left the safe house and never returned. Nobody knows what happened to him.
Tumblr media
Le was kept in chains and had his finger cut off by a brutal gang before being trafficked to the UK to grow cannabisCredit: Getty - Contributor Le’s agonising story is far from unique. While some, like Le, are kidnapped from orphanages or the streets into slavery, others voluntarily leave behind their families in rural Vietnam in search of a brighter future. They are enticed by traffickers with false promises of exciting job offers or student exchanges. But instead they spend years in servitude, passed from grow-house to grow-house, under the thumb of brutal organised crooks, as they work off the cost of their passage to Britain. Police raids have revealed the nightmare existence endured by these slaves, whose work exposes them to toxic chemicals, fire risks, and violence from rival drug gangs.

Gangs cater to a multi-billion pound cannabis market in Britain - some campaigners say its time to cut criminals out of the trade by changing the lawCredit: Getty - Contributor Survived by eating dog food In October, police rescued three Vietnamese children found living in squalor in an industrial unit in Rochdale. In April 2015, a 32-year-old Vietnamese man was found surviving on tins of dog food at a house in Northern Ireland, where cops recovered over 500 weed plants. And in 2017, four young Vietnamese workers were discovered sleeping on mattresses and locked in a subterranean nuclear bunker while they tended 4,000 plants in an operation worth £2m a year. Brewer says: “Cannabis is seen as a bit of a soft drug, unrelated to violence and sold through traditional drug dealing methods. I don’t think people always make the link to the violence and control that goes with it.” Efforts to take down the kingpins behind the trade have had piecemeal success. In September, 20 gang members were jailed after a joint sting by the NCA and three police forces in south Wales. The investigation uncovered a network of 45 cannabis farms and storage units as far away as Coventry, thought to have netted the gang £25m.

The vast complex was run behind the steel blast door of an abandoned underground Cold War era nuclear bunkerCredit: Solent News Cops losing fight against gangs But despite the success of some high-profile operations, police only busted 8,600 cannabis farms in 2018-19 - a thousand more than the previous year but still just over half the 16,590 raided in 2011-12. And Volteface, a non-profit group campaigning for cannabis legalisation, says Ministry of Justice data obtained under a freedom of information request shows prosecutions for growing weed fell 63 per cent in the five years to 2018. It comes down to police budgets and priorities. Volteface director of policy Liz McCulloch, said: “Police are withdrawing from policing cannabis markets. "Their budgets are stretched and it’s not a priority anymore. “Growers are probably a bit more confident there’s a good chance their activities aren’t going to be found out.” Tony Saggers, former head of the NCA’s Drugs Threat and Intelligence added: “We seize what we look for, and we look for what we prioritise. “Considering all the pressures on policing, not least another drug generated threat in County Lines – it doesn’t surprise me that less focus has been on cannabis, this does not mean it is not still being taken seriously”
Tumblr media
The heartbroken parents of Hoang Van Tiep, who died in the Essex lorry deaths last month - he was 18 years oldCredit: Ray Collins - The Sun Mimi Vu, a world expert on the trafficking of Vietnamese children and young people, hopes the container tomb tragedy in Essex will serve as a wake-up call for Vietnam’s youth to seek their fortune in their own booming economy, instead of gambling their lives on a deadly lorry journey to the UK. “They grow up believing their best bet is to go overseas,” she says. “But what happened in Essex has brought everything into the open, and shown that the dangers are real. “There’s no way now that anyone can say we’re making up stories to scare them off.” But even if fewer Vietnamese do decide to make that perilous crossing, police intelligence reveals there will still be a plentiful supply of trafficked slaves to help grow weed. There is growing evidence that ruthlessly efficient Albanian gangs are now moving into cannabis. And Home Office data suggests the number of trafficked Albanians exploited in the UK for labour – which includes cannabis farms – is on course to double this year. Tony Saggers, former head of the NCA’s Drugs Threat and Intelligence says, cannabis users should give more thought to the human cost of lighting up a spliff. “Leisure users blame prohibitionists and the law for preventing them the freedom of choice to use cannabis,” he says. “There’s a selfish inclination to do what they want instead of thinking of the wider consequences.” *Le is a false name. Given an inaccurate insurance quote?
So, in the process of getting a new vehicle I took two VIN numbers to a man at the insurance agency I've used for the past three years. The two numbers were for an '08 and an '09 car (the '08 first just to get a reference). He tells me the approximate increase in my monthly bill will be around $47.50 (for the '09). I go ahead and buy the car, my monthly bill has gone up just right over $200 more. I have already bought the car, paid for the tax, title, licensing and registration... and there is no way I can pay that much more in insurance (college kid here), so I'm going to have to get rid of the car, pay insurance on it for a portion of a month, and pay all the necessary fees on another vehicle. I will easily have lost $1000 because of this guy's inability to do his job. Of course, I didn't get anything in writing (having gone there for three years and never having any other problems...). I really don't know what to do and I'm quite upset about it. Any suggestions?""

Speeding ticket & avoiding insurance increase?
I received a speeding ticket the other day for going 14 over. This is my second citation in the past year. The previous one being for failure to yield. A friend of mine said he took an online traffic school course and it negated his speeding ticket and kept his insurance rates from increasing. I've found several places to take the online courses for my state, but they don't say whether receiving the certificate of completion will do anything to help remedy my situation. I need to know 1) Reliable online traffic school 2) What to do with the certificate of completion once received (mail to whom? call where?) 3) Does completion of the course guarantee maintained insurance rates. 4) Should I pay the ticket as soon as possible, or wait until after I've completed the course to see if it will negate the fine. ""Car insurance, color, and does it really matter?""
Ok, made my decision, going with the new 2007 Mazda 3 S (with the 2.3 ltr engine and all that good stuff...not really sure on the sunroof though, it's kind of pricey) My question...s are: 1. I was told that if I got a loud color on a car that I would regret it for a couple of reasons. It attracts the cops to pull it over more and it could potientally higher my insurance. Is that just some kind of myth to scare people away from getting a nice color like red or yellow? 2. And secondly, what's a good color to get? Something that's easy to clean, but still shimmers and looks nice. I was thinking about the Aurora Blue. Everyone has black and silver cars? 3. I was building the car and I don't want to pay close to 21k for this car, it's worth a lot, but not that much. How much should I ask for? Now I've already gone to edmunds.com, it seems pretty helpful, but should I wait until they get the 2008 Models in and then try to buy the older model?""

What car insurance do you have and do you like it?
I'm about to get my license and my parents asked me which insurance I want. I want to know your personal experience with your insurance company and would you recommend them? Judging by what my parents have explained to me so far I plan on getting full coverage not the bare minimum just because its cheaper (which is stupid in my opinion). Right now I'm driving our 2007 Mitsubishi eclipse but my parents plan on giving me the Saturn since the eclipse is more my moms car than mine. Do you know approximently what it will cost to insure the saturn. Also what do you think makes your insurance better than others?

renault logo

Due to its alliance with Nissan, it is currently the world’s 4th largest automaker. 1923 – In 1923, the company replaced its tank logo with the Grille-Shaped logo and introduced the name of the car “Renault” in its logo for the first time. 1925 – In 1925, the diamond replaces the circle and Renault becomes the “diamond brand” and is called the same today. 1972 – In 1972, Renault modernized its logo. The designer, Victor Vaserely redesigned the diamond in the shape of a dynamic 3-D diamond. 1992 – In 1992, the logo is enlarged and produced in relief, as part of Renault’s drive for progress, quality and innovation. 2004 – In 2004, Renault presents a new interpretation of its logo, placed on a warm yellow background. 2007 – In 2007, Renault begins a wave of 26 vehicle launches. The logo is surrounded by a Yellow square – a symbol of quality.
BUICK
buick logo
Buick is a marque of automobile sold in the United States, Canada, China, Taiwan, Qatar, Kuwait, and Israel by General Motors Company. It is GM’s North America-based entry-level luxury brand. Buick’s emblem consists of three shields, each bisected diagonally to the right by a straight line, the shields arranged touching each other in a left-diagonal pattern, inside a circle. If represented in color, the leftmost shield is red, the middle white, and the rightmost blue, although white is sometimes represented by light gray. This design, known as the Trishield, was adopted in 1959 for the 1960 models and represents the three models that comprised the lineup that year—LeSabre, Invicta, and Electra. The shields are adopted from the shield of the Buick family crest, which in modified form had been used on Buicks since the 1930s. A version of the traditional crest appeared on Electras through the 1980s.
PORSCHE
porsche logo
Porsche SE or Porsche is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury high performance automobiles, which is majority-owned by the Piëch and Porsche families. The company is headquartered in Zuffenhausen, a city district of Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg. Porsche’s company logo was based on the coat of arms of Free People’s State of Württemberg of former Weimar Germany, which had Stuttgart as its capital and became part of Baden-Württemberg after the political consolidation of West Germany in 1949.
OPEL
opel logo
Adam Opel GmbH, commonly known as Opel, is a German automaker. The company was founded on 21 January 1863, began making automobiles in 1899, and was acquired by General Motors Corporation in 1929. As part of GM Europe, Opel is GM’s largest European brand and, along with Vauxhall Motors in the UK, it forms GM’s core European business. The lightning bolt on the Opel badging is a reference to the famous Opel Blitz truck (the German word ‘Blitz’ means lightning or flash). The logo was originally a Zeppelin, which became more stylized, and as the Zeppelin became less popular as a form of transport, the logo was changed. There is also a noticeable similarity between the winged Zeppelin and the lightning logo. Starting with the Opel Insignia, the Blitz logo will be updated. The border that is circling the lightning bolt will be wider to incorporate the Opel name, and the surfaces will be more spherical to give the logo a three-dimensional look.
FIAT
fiat logo
Fiat S.p.A., an acronym for Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino (English: Italian Automobile Factory of Turin), is an Italian automobile manufacturer, engine manufacturer, financial and industrial group based in Turin in the Piedmont region. Fiat was founded in 1899 by a group of investors including Giovanni Agnelli. Fiat has also manufactured tanks and aircraft. As of 2009, Fiat is the world’s 6th largest carmaker as well as Italy’s largest carmaker. It has a three-dimensional effect which conveys an idea of technology, Italian design, dynamism and a strong personality, while it also harks back to the round logo (white wording against a red background, surrounded by laurel leaves) that identified powerful, high performance Fiat models for many years. The essential, strong new logo therefore conveys ‘ongoing change’, a sign of the past re-read in a modern key which is particularly representative of Fiat today, a brand projected towards the challenges of the future but also proud of its historical identity. The two main elements of the new logo (the shield shape and the colour red) immediately bring to mind the Fiat 524 of 1931, which was the first to use a rectangular logo that blended into the new grille, designed with stylistic but also aerodynamic pretensions, in the shape of a shield with vertical elements.
Rover Mascot
rover logo
The Rover Company is a former British car manufacturing company founded as Starley & Sutton Co. of Coventry in 1878. After developing the template for the modern bicycle with its Rover Safety Bicycle of 1885, the company moved into the automotive industry. It started building motorcycles and Rover cars, using their established marque with the iconic Viking Longship, from 1904 onwards. Land Rover vehicles were added from 1947 onwards, with all production based in Solihull after moving to these premises after World War II. The Rover logo represents a Viking ship, a link between the meaning of ‘Rover'(to wander about) and the Vikings, which did very much the same thing albeit via the oceans rather than land.
HYUNDAI
hyundai logo
Hyundai Motor Company, a division of the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group, is the world’s fifth largest automaker in terms of units sold per year and one of the Big Asian Four (with Toyota, Honda and Nissan). Its slogan is “Drive your way”. Hyundai Motor Company is a division of Hyundai Motor Group which also manages Kia Motors. The Hyundai logo seen above is appears to be an oval shaped H (symbolizing Hyundai). It is also supposed to be symbolic of the company’s desire to expand. The ovaloid shape indicates the company’s global expansion and the slanted, stylized ‘H’ is symbolic of two people (specifically the company and customer) shaking hands.
SKODA
skoda logo
Škoda Auto is an automobile manufacturer in the Czech Republic. In 1991, it became a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. Its sales reached 674 530 cars in 2008. Although the Škoda logo is viewed as one of the most original and stylistically clean manufacturing company trademarks in the world, the author is not yet known. The black and green logo, which has been used since 1994, gives the Škoda brand a greater degree of originality – black symbolizes the hundred-year tradition, green signalizes environmental production. The big cirque symbolizes that SKODA products are impeccable; the bird’s wing symbolizes that the high-tech products are sold all over the world; the right-pointed arrow symbolizes advanced technique.
CHRYSLER
chrysler Logo
Chrysler Group, LLC is an American automobile manufacturer headquartered in the Detroit suburb of Auburn Hills, Michigan. Chrysler was first organized as the Chrysler Corporation in 1925.In September 1962, the company adopted a logo named Pentastar, made of five triangles arranged so their bases formed the sides of a pentagon. CITROEN
citroen logo

Since 1976 it has been part of PSA Peugeot Citroën, and its headquarters is on rue Fructidor, Paris. The Citroen logo looks like something you might see on an American cartoon soldier – two inverted Vs. Andre Citroen – imagine one of those old black and white photographs with an ancient man in a white beard – started in the motor trade by building gear wheels before branching out into the motorcar, and the twin chevrons are meant to represent gear teeth in honour of the old engineer’s early fettlings. The company’s famous “double chevron” logo derives from André Citroën’s early business in gear-cutting the company pioneered mass production of double helically-cut gear teeth, which mesh together in a chevron.
