Philadelphia Shopping Guide - Where to Shop, Eat, and Have Fun on a Weekend
Unlike the other major cities, Philadelphia is not known for its fashion-forward shops. However, if you know where to look, you can find a number of excellent shops that will keep you busy on a Saturday or Sunday. You will also find plenty of restaurants and cafes to keep you entertained.
Philadelphia is also known for its cheesesteaks. If you are in the mood for a snack, try one of the many food markets in the city. The Philadelphia Italian Market is an excellent source of traditional Italian fare. In addition to the usual suspects, you can find a variety of foods, including pastas, cured meats, fresh vegetables and fruits, and specialty cheeses. The best part is that you can take advantage of Pennsylvania's arcane liquor laws, making it easier for restaurants to go BYOB.
You will also find several of the city's best museums, including the Museum of the American Revolution, which offers a curated tour of American history. The museum is located near Rittenhouse Square. You can also check out the Mutter Museum, which is a great resource for learning about morbid anatomy. The Philadelphia Mummers Museum is also interesting, as it teaches you about working-class culture. You might also want to check out the National Constitution Center, which is a super-lively museum.
The Philadelphia Mills is an enclosed mall located in the Northeast part of the city. It is not located in Center City, but it is only fifteen miles away. It's a great place to pick up a few items, and you can also take advantage of free WiFi. It is also home to the Wanamaker Organ, a massive pipe organ that's been installed in Macy's.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art is also a great place to visit. You'll see a variety of works of art, including some of the largest pieces in the world. You can also check out the Barnes Foundation, which features a well-curated selection of European and African art. In addition to the museum, you can also catch a live performance on the Wanamaker Organ.
The West End is an eclectic shopping area that's worth a visit. It's filled with excellent shops, including the Magic Gardens, an ongoing art project. You might also want to stop in to one of the many restaurants in the area, such as Little Nonna's and Tria. There are also several great wine bars to choose from. You'll also find several excellent shops in the Headhouse District.
The East Village is also worth a look. Its main street is reminiscent of the storybook Main Street. It's also the home of one of the city's best wine bars, Tria. It's also a great place to see the art deco buildings of Philadelphia, including the iconic Rittenhouse Hotel. You can also get a great drink at the Yardley Ice House, a local spot for creative flavors.
You'll also find a number of impressive landmarks, such as the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. The Liberty Bell is one of the oldest structures in Philadelphia, and it is also the site of the Declaration of Independence.
Located in Cherry Hill, Pennsylvania, it's no secret that Barclay Farm is a hotspot for the locals and visitors. A plethora of boutiques, diners, and ad hoc restaurants have been keeping the locals happy. A slew of upscale boutiques and hotels have also taken their share of business. The best part of all is that Barclay Farm is also the most family friendly neighborhood in the county.
Downtown Malvern is a great place to find great shops and restaurants. There is a lot of Victorian architecture. The town is also close to King of Prussia Mall.
Residential Epoxy Flooring
The best residential epoxy flooring options are also easy to clean. They're resistant to water, chemicals, and other corrosive substances. The epoxy coating can be applied to various surfaces, including wood, concrete, and brick pavers.
They're available in a variety of colors and finishes, including clear epoxy, wood grain, metallic, and patterned designs. You can also choose to add glitter or other embedded items into the resin coating.
Epoxy flooring is an excellent option for high traffic areas in a home. It's also very durable and easy to clean.
Residential epoxy flooring is also popular for patios. These outdoor areas of a house are used to soak up the sun and connect with family members. Patios bear the weight of heavy items, so it's important that they're durable.

Truman Seymour (September 24, 1824 – October 30, 1891) began his military career after attending Norwich University for two years before enrolling in the United States Military Academy in 1842. He graduated from West Point in 1846, and was assigned to the 1st Artillery during the outbreak of the Mexican-American War. He was promoted to first lieutenant for his conduct during the battles of Contreras and Churubusco. After the war, he returned to West Point and taught for three years, and then served during the Seminole War in Florida from 1856 to 1858.
When the Civil War broke out, Seymour was stationed in Fort Sumter, and was brevetted a major for his actions during the Confederate attack. His first service came early in the war within the defenses of Washington, and was promoted to brigadier general of volunteers on April 28, 1862. Seymour was assigned to a brigade within McCall’s division of the V Corps, commanded by John Porter. He commanded his soldiers during the battle of Mechanicsville, and then commanded the division during the battle of Malvern Hill as a result of McCall being captured by Confederates at the battle of Frayser’s Farm. He led troops during the battles of Second Manassas, South Mountain, and Antietam, resulting in two brevet promotions in the regular army up to colonel. In November of 1862, he was reassigned to Charleston Harbor and led a failed attack on Battery Wagner in July of 1863, where he was severely wounded.
When Seymour returned to duty in December of 1863, he was placed in charge of the District of Florida by General Quincy A. Gillmore. In February of 1864, Seymour and his division made an expedition to Florida capturing the city of Jacksonville. On February 20, Seymour and his division left the city and met approximately 5,000 Confederate troops under the command of Joseph Finegan at the battle of Olustee. The battle would be the largest battle fought in Florida during the Civil War, and ultimately a Confederate victory. Seymour’s defeat resulted in his retreat back to Jacksonville. Following the battle he was relieved of command of the division in Florida, and sent to Virginia where he was placed within the Army of the Potomac.
He served during the battle of the Wilderness, and was captured by Confederate forces under John B. Gordon. He was exchanged after the battle, and was placed in charge of the third division of the VI Corps. He commanded through Union campaigns in the Shenandoah Valley, during the siege of Petersburg, and finally during the Appomattox campaign. He was present when Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant, and received brevet promotions of major general of volunteers and brigadier general in the regular army for his actions during the final campaigns of the war.
#truman seymour#american civil war#civil war#history#my dude went through some tough times lol#but i mean...he ended up sticking with the VI corps for the rest of the war#that's a+ the VIs corps is fantastic

The Fergusons of Malvern Hill
William Ferguson and wife Mertyl Deane purchased Malvern Hill farm in 1942. The family was a steward of the land and its history for nearly 75 years. William moved to Henrico County in 1920 where he became manager of Curles Neck farm, helping it to become one of the most successful dairies in the state. In 1936 William was appointed to the Henrico County Board of Supervisors, Varina District, where he would serve for the next 17 years., 11 of those years as chairman. A strong supporter for the county manager form of government, he advocated for equal pay for teachers, the construction of the Laburnum Avenue and the development of the county fire and recreation departments.

Day 12: 16th April
We all loved Malvern. Breakfast from the bakery was followed by fresh Malvern water straight from the fountain in the square. I said good morning to Elgar and off we went very steeply indeed to the first of several summits of the Malvern Hills.
The weather was excellent and the walking absolutely first rate.
Elevated ridge walking with views over to Wales one way and the Cotswolds in the other direction.
Elgar’s Introduction & Allegro for strings was the sound track in my head for the best walk of the journey since the Peak District.
We had a great pit stop half way along the ridge at Sally’s cafe and met some interesting people including a motorbiking stone mason and a local guy who was getting back into walking following a serious illness.
British Camp is an old Iron Age fort with three tiers like a wedding cake.
We traversed the 2nd tier like three little ants.
With reluctance we finally descended via winding lanes through green pastures and I noticed a Camino horse brass in the pub where we took our second break!
Tonight we are glamping.... a pod I think?... and a very good pub next door called The Drum & Monkey.
A great area and a great day.

West End Fullertonians
By Anais Lino
Being just 30 miles southeast of Los Angeles, the suburbs of Fullerton resembles almost nothing from its Metropolitan neighbor. West Fullerton borders both east Buena Park and North Anaheim and unlike its counterparts, West Fullerton does not house a theme park, but has become a home for many families looking to settle down in a town with multiple high schoolsand higher education institutes.
With a population of over 130,000, this image of suburbia has attracted manly families tothis neighborhood in part because of its reputation as an education city. Two high schools, one junior college, and two universities sit on a single street as you drive along Malvern Ave. Fullerton Union High School itself is part of the Fullerton Union School District and houses events for neighboring high schools like Sunny Hills; recently, it was used as a location for the Netflix series ‘the Politician’.
“My parents heard about how good the schools were so we had moved here when I was little,” said Jake Cirito, 21, who currently attends Fullerton Junior College. Cirito hopes to transfer to CSUF in the near future. “The schools around, as well as how close and accessible everything is, makes it stick out from other cities that don’t have as much to offer.”
Across the street, Fullerton College operates and stands two blocks away from downtown Fullerton. It’s known for hosting Fullerton Festival, a high school theatre competition whichhosts students from as far as Hawaii.
At night, Downtown Fullerton illuminates the city, as every tree south of Harbor Blvd. becomes illuminated with string lights as they twinkle until morning. Downtown Fullerton has become a favorite hangout spot for many college students. Downtown Fullerton has quickly changed as it has gained a reputation as a social hub apposed to the thrifting haven as it was previously regarded. Memo’s Vintage, previously known as American Vintage before switching ownership, has been anchored in Downtown Fullerton since 2007.
“I believe originally there was … such a vibrant retail community. There were a couple of other vintage shops, lots of lovely restaurants, and it was a nice area, very upscale area. There were people coming to this area looking to buy vintage clothing” said Will from Memo’s Vintage. He has been working at the store for 5 years and has noticed the changes in Downtown Fullerton. “Rents have gone up so a lot of out neighbors, a lot of clothing shops have had to leave the area. Stray Cat had to leave their unit. They moved like down the street a couple of blocks because the rent was going up too much.”
Other small businesses have chosen to operate closer to California State University, Fullerton and pander towards college students. Zombee Donuts sits on Chapman Ave., in between CSUF and Fullerton College. They first opened their doors on February 2015 to a fairly slow crowd until word of mouth passed around and made their presence known.
“We were specifically looking at Fullerton, just ‘cause we felt like it was a really cute town that has a really strong sense of community,” said Vanessa Gonzalez, 35, of Zombee Donuts. “It’s exciting to see kid’s faces when they come in and look at all our different donuts. We get a pretty diverse group but it's surprising that we see so many families. We thought it would be college students mainly”.

Arriving at a decision
Jim teaching Beavers and their fathers to kayak
Jim Receiving the Chief Scout Award
Sponsored Hike Against the Cruelty of Kids - for NSPCC
Following a dream...
As a young lad I was heavily involved in Scouting and I loved being outdoors. I learned so much about nature and living off the land. I thoroughly enjoyed navigating and map reading. I also found First Aid training interesting and it wasn’t long before I had filled my arms with badges and awards. I loved camping and spent most of my weekends camping with my fellow scouts, hiking across the Peak District Hills, kayaking down local rivers or climbing and abseiling in local quarries.
It was inevitable given my love of nature and fascination with science that I would go on to take A’ level Biology at school and this put me in good stead later when I trained in slaughter houses as a Student Environmental Health Officer (EHO). I found that I was able to put of out my mind the sad practice of killing animals by concentrating on the fascinating biological systems exposed by the process.
Training to be an EHO was tough and I was often heard grumbling with my fellow students about the amount of time we had to spend studying. We were required to attend lectures for up to 40 hours per week which, when compared to the other students who I shared accommodation with, seemed excessive – especially when they were only required to attend 10 hours of lectures a week! In addition to the university workload I was required to work at a Local Authority as part of my training. Whilst my roommates went home to their families to relax for the holidays, I would be found working in the Borough of Northampton as a student EHO. I would spend my weekends studying and falling asleep at my desk and I soon began to forget about the pull of the outdoors and how I had enjoyed it so much.
In 2008, I went to work at Birmingham City Council in the Specialist Health and Safety Team investigating fatal and major incidents. My time in this team would turn out to be the best of my Environmental Health career and I soon found my skills stretched and improved until I reached the top of my game. It was during this job that I travelled around the country training fellow EHOs. Having investigated a number of gas explosions in catering businesses, I found myself somewhat an expert in Gas Safety within the Catering Sector and I trained hundreds of my colleagues around the country on how to carry out health and safety inspections within kitchens. Being flown up to Edinburgh to present at a conference was a highlight in my career and whilst it made me feel good about what I was doing, I still couldn’t shake the feeling that it just wasn’t for me.
The Health and Safety Team members were a great bunch of people and I thoroughly enjoyed working with them. The work was tough and emotionally draining but the team pulled together and everyone looked out for each other. I investigated my first fatal accident, whilst at Cannock Chase District Council at the age of 24. Whilst that hadn’t been my first exposure to a dead body, I hadn’t realised how much it had affected me until years later when, after investigating a number of other fatal incidents, I was given Post Traumatic Stress Disorder training. This work had taken its toll on my emotional state, changing me indefinitely and it was one of a number of reasons why I left the team to concentrate on main stream Environmental Health work.
It was during my time with the Health and Safety Team, however, that I rediscovered the joys of being outdoors. With a few of my team colleagues we decided to take part in an event to raise money for the NSPCC by hiking 22 miles across the Malvern Hills. Clearly, I would need to carry out a lot of training as it had been years since I had attempted to walk so far. I would spend the next few months before the event training with my colleagues by wandering around Cannock Chase or the Peak District. The training gave us plenty of time to chat and I would find myself talking to my fellow teammates about how I “used to love being outdoors spending time surrounded by nature.” They probably got bored with hearing me say it.
It’s not often that you meet someone who you can really call a friend, but I’ve learned if you are lucky enough you may meet someone in your life who completely fills all of the criteria and can be called a true friend. Whilst the lads in the team dropped off with their training (they probably got fed up of me talking about how I used to love being in the outdoors!), my dear friend Surindar carried on dragging me all over the Peak District, testing both our stamina and our navigating skills. She was, and still is, someone who offers encouragement unreservedly and we found ourselves talking about our love for the outdoors during our walks. On one of our walks, as she listened to me complain about being an EHO and how I found it so tough, I went on to tell her about how I used to travel to the Lakes with fellow Scouts and how I thoroughly loved it. I told her how I would have loved to have joined the Mountain Rescue Teams up there and, true to form, her simple reply would change my life. “Why don’t you join them then? If it’s what you want to do – go for it!”
At the time I would not even begin to realise how her words of encouragement would later change my life, but she had stirred something within me that encouraged me to search for a way to join an organisation like Mountain Rescue. I found myself trawling the internet and researching it further as soon as I got back home. Of course, I lived in Staffordshire in the UK where there are no mountains and is no Mountain Rescue Team so clearly, that wasn’t an option without uprooting my family and moving up to the north of the country. It was then that I came across an organisation called Staffordshire Search and Rescue Team (SSART). SSART is made up of volunteers from all walks of life who give up their spare time to train and assist the Police, and other emergency services, to locate missing vulnerable people.
I had found an organisation, close to both my heart and my home and I knew there and then that it was meant to be. I contacted them via their website and awaited their reply.
To be continued….
