I'm avoiding writing and you probably are too, so let's at least think about our characters while we do it.

You know the drill- send me a number (ONE number, you can come back for more) and I'll answer for an OC of your choice (if you know their name) or my choice (if you don't know their name). Feel free to name some of your OCs in the tags of your reblog, if you want to be asked about them.

How did you choose their name?

The Living Daylights (1987, John Glen)

The 25th anniversary Bond film and first Bond film since Roger Moore retired, The Living Daylights premiered on July 31, 1987. Pierce Brosnan was set to take on the Bond mantle when at the last moment, the makers of the TV show Remington Steele decided to capitalize on all the Bond buzz and hold him to a new season of the cancelled show. This was a failure as the new season only managed 6 episodes before cancelling. The failed season also prevented Steele costar Stephanie Zimbalist from taking a major role in the sci fi blockbuster Robocop. Brosnan was replaced by Timothy Dalton who had decided to pass on the role years earlier because at the time he felt he was too young. However, he only made one more movie before the franchise was forced into hiatus. After years of limbo, Dalton decided to move on and Brosnan was once more offered the role. The Living Daylights and the following Dalton movie both protrayed a Bond closer to the novels, possibly the closest till the Daniel Craig era years later. Following the success of the Duran Duran theme for View to a Kill, Ah-Ha of "Take on Me" fame was tapped for the theme song. Besides the darker and violent take on the character, the movie also had a couple of scenes of actual nudity outside of the opening credits (including Virginia Hey of Farscape). Long time iconic Bond composer John Barry made a cameo as a conductor in the movie. Walter Gotell returned as General Gogol (The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy and A View to a Kill), Robert Brown as M (Octopussy and A View to a Kill) and Desmond Llewelyn as Q (every previous Bond film except Dr No and Live and Let Die). For the first time in the series, the role of Moneypenny was taken over by Caroline Bliss. Previously, since the first film Dr No, the role of Moneypenny had been played by Lois Maxwell making her the most consistent actor to play a role in the Bond franchise. The title and opening teaser was based on a Bond short story written by Ian Fleming. ("The Living Daylights" movie event)

A few copies of the 'Looking' book have been available recently on eBay. It's a great souvenir of the series and movie, and 176 pages of colour photos, recollections by cast and crew, a playlist, behind the scenes photos etc. Jonathan is credited at the end of the book, with Sarah Condon, for his enthusiasm and generous contributions to ensure the project got made. Only 1,000 copies of the book were released, and my copy of 424/1000 included a DVD and an original autograph from Jonathan, Murray Bartlett and Frankie J Alvarez.

Michael Lannan: I used to think that you had to be miserable to work in entertainment. Now I know for sure this is not true. Jonathan is such a great lead for us - so generous and hard working and he leaves his ego at the door. People don't know how talented he is because he is so natural. It is so hard to portray this and he understood it from the start and dropped right into it and inspired the others to follow his lead.

Andrew Haigh: Jonathan is amazing. He gets so emotionally invested in his scenes and it really comes across.

Bashir Salahuddin (Malik): Jonathan Groff is a national treasure. In a lot of situtions the number one person on the call sheet sets the tone. It makes a huge difference to know that the lead person is so warm and talented and completely focused on the craft.

Jonathan: Everyone involved in the show feels so personally connected to our characters and their relationships - they are a real extension of ourselves. There is a scene in the movie with Dom and Patrick - talking about gay male friendships that aren't sexual - and it feels like Andrew wrote it for me and Murray about us.

Jonathan: In the first audition I got so nervous and hot playing Patrick. He was an articulation of every insecurity and self-doubting, mistake-ridden choice that I had ever made! I think that is what makes him endearing and maddening - he has no filter. I relate to him completely. It was like playing myself. Like pulling a curtain back and showing yourself in your most confused state.
