Ottomas Prime, Day 86, Part 7

Baby room. I guess in real life you'd have more toys, but they can't play with them, so...

Bathroom. I was going to put another one on a higher floor, but I ran out of space.

Cafeteria. I guess you'll have to get toddler mush out of the fridge in the baby room.

Toddler room.

Nap space in the toddler room.

Entrance area. That's the cafeteria through the arch to the left with the toddler room beyond it, and the baby room through the door to the right. All the ground floor rooms have direct outside access.

The first two rooms upstairs are the kid play spaces.

"Practical" education space. I wish kids could use the crafting benches.

There are two small tutoring rooms on the top floor, with windows into the hallway for safeguarding purposes.

And finally, the Library!

It took me a while to decide how to build this. In the end, I went with shipping containers because it gives an easy structure.

By the time I stopped having ideas and adding other containers, I think I should've put this on a bigger lot for more outside play space, but it is what it is. It fits in this little gap here, anyway.

With all that money, I decided a little extention was in order.

The little side extention enlarges the kitchen and gives direct access from there to the garden. (Please ignore Laycian sleeping in his food - he's been there a while).

Tommy: So, I've decided what to do with the government grant - with a bit of help from Isaiah.

(I decided most of the bonus was actually a grant for Tommy to do something within the field of education - this household really did not need that much money).

Lydia: Yeah?

Tommy: I'm going to set up an education centre. It'll provide free childcare - after school, weekends, holidays, and also during the day for younger kids. But there'll also be lots of opportunities for education too - learning skills like music, arts and crafts, and also help with homework, or just a quiet place to study, or extra tutoring.

Lydia: And plenty of toys, right? It's not all going to be hothousing, is it?

Tommy: Of course not. I'm thinking of several rooms just for playing - board game and toyboxes and dollshouses and everything!

It's summer, so they're taking full advantage of the pool, both day and night.

Sharla: Reef and Kai still aren't getting along. I don't know if we should say something to Tommy and Lydia... it seems to be Kai picking on Reef, but I don't know how saying that would go down...

Bruce: Maybe just say they had some kind of issue last night and Reef was upset?

It's the weekend, so they can enjoy a leisurely breakfast.

Reef: You wanna play, Anchor?

Anchor: Nah, maybe later.

That is a very big bonus! (I picked that option because of a game I used to have, Reader Rabbit. I loved that game!)

Malachi: Whee! Anchor, you like me more than Reef, right?

Anchor: No, I like you both the same.

Malachi: You only have to say that when Reef's around and he's not here so you can just say the truth, you know.

Lydia took her nephew to work. It was fairly successful (he could've done with a register badge).

Malachi: Why are you crying? I hardly even touched you! You're such a baby, Reef!

Malachi: Go on, hit me. Hit me, if it'll make you feel better.

Malachi: Hit me.

Reef: I don't want to.

Malachi: Hit me!

Reef: I don't want to!

Malachi: You're such a baby. Anchor said he'd rather be my brother than yours.

Reef: No he didn't!

Malachi: Yes he did!

Malachi: Night, Auntie Sharla!

Sharla: Goodnight, sweetheart.

Sharla: You okay?

Reef: Did you ever hear Anchor say he wishes Malachi was his brother and not me?

Sharla: No - what makes you think that?

Reef: Malachi said...

Sharla: Kai's just jealous because he hasn't got a brother. Anchor loves you.

Reef: I wish I was more bigger than Malachi than I am. He always says we're the same age and a few weeks doesn't matter, but it does!

Sharla: It does right now because you're the same age and you're competing over everything. Once you're adults with your own lives, it won't matter nearly so much.

Reef: That's ages away!

Reef and Malachi are still struggling to get along and competing over Anchor.

Alas, I can't remember who Lydia is talking to here, but she's not impressed about it.

Tommy and the boys enjoy the pool.

Anchor: Marco!

Tommy: Polo!

Anchor: Reef? Where are you? Are you playing anymore?

Reef: Nope!

I decided Bruce needed more friends. Sharla's friends' husbands seemed like a good starting point, so he invited Hi over. I did take the precaution of teleporting him home once Bruce had finished talking to him, although I think he and Lydia got rid of their love tags a while ago.

Some late night newsagent opening.

Red hands! The little boys can't play together to sort their fun bars out because they're nowhere near friends - Malachi's STR toward Reef is -4!

Malachi: Daddy, why are you swinging Reef round and not me? You're my daddy, not his!

Tommy: I can swing you and Reef both, though maybe not at the same time. I can be your daddy and Reef's uncle both, can't I?

Reef: Hey, what's that?

Junior: What-?

Reef: Gotcha!

Junior: Are there any more water balloons anywhere?

Reef: There's a whole box over there!

Junior: Right then! You're going down, young man!

Malachi: Anchor, if I could have a genie wish, I would wish that you were my brother and not Reef's.

Anchor: That's not very fair on Reef, is it?

Malachi: Well it's not very fair that he has a brother and I don't!

Reef's only got one grandparent and he'd be very happy to have Junior as another.

Peter: Hi, Uncle Tommy!

Reef: Look, Uncle Tommy! I'm swimming all by my own!

Reef: Obviously I'm better at darts than you cuz I'm older.

Malachi: Only eleven weeks - that's nothing!

Malachi: Anyway, I have more friends than you. Anchor likes me best even though he's your brother and my cousin.

I forgot they had a a pool at home when I sent Tommy and the boys to the Swimming Hole, but there was also company and darts here, so I suppose it's not a wasted trip.

Malachi's going to get all the spellings right in the test today and beat Reef - you see if he doesn't!

It was going so well!

Reef found time for a swim before school. So what if Malachi beats him in the spelling test? It's only a competition if Reef thinks it is!

Anchor: I'm sorry. I tried.

Sharla: It's fine. They're not that burnt.

Bruce: Well...

Time to open up their newsagent's in Riverford.

Business is booming (and Sharla needs a register badge!). Hi Nerissa!

It's a bit early for drinking but nevermind.

I check to see if Lydia ever dated Lexi's dad, Davy, but it doesn't look like it. I guess he's a bit young for her.

Anchor's going to get fit - you see if he doesn't!

Bruce: Meet me in the bedroom in half an hour?

Sharla: Half an hour?! Leave a girl hanging, why don't you?

Bruce: We can't all have as much stamina as you!

I'm not sure that'll help, Bruce.

Bruce: Stupid sink!

Sharla: How about we get dressed up and go out someplace?

Bruce: You look beautiful, babe. I feel underdressed beside you.

Sharla: How about sound we both get undressed and then neither of us will be underdressed?

Bruce: So about that undressing....?

Sharla had a date want, so she and Bruce went down to the bar in Riverford. Not that they noticed they were in a bar - they only had eyes for each other.

Sofie came and sat down next to them with a face like thunder, and ate her hamburger very aggressively.

Lydia must’ve said something to her, because she was much happier by the time everyone had finished eating.

Lydia: So, if you’re not at work and Malachi’s at school... we should go out somewhere!

Yeah, Sofie, Lydia dated your dad before you were born....

Tommy struggled to roll higher romantic wants until he’d had a go at all the games available on this lot.

Brotherly chess!

Tommy: Lyddie!

The next day, Tommy had the day off work, so he and Lydia went out on a date.

Vesta: Isn’t it weird that they have tournaments on grass and clay straight after Simbledon, when all the big tournaments for the rest of the year are all on hard courts?

Anchor: So, um... have you heard from Jess since he went to college.

Vesta: Once or twice. But I’m on a date with you right now, so don’t worry about him.

Anchor: Hi, Grandpa...

Sharla went to make dinner and found there were no groceries, so Anchor was instructed to pick some up on his way home.

Malachi: Daddy, look at my gold star!

After school, Anchor asked Vesta out on a date.

Oh come on Gerry; you and Lydia haven’t dated for ages, and you’re both married to other people!

Apart from the incident with Gerry, business was booming.

Lydia and Tommy used their dream date motive boosts to go and open up Lydia’s flower shop. By the time they got home, Tommy was ready for a nap, but Lydia still had plenty of energy. Bruce was tired from shooting hoops, so Sharla and Lydia went out to open up Bruce and Sharla’s newsagents.

Lydia and Sharla still aren’t friends! They’ve lived together for years now, but I suppose they’ve been pretty busy with raising children and running businesses. Then there’s a fact that Lydia’s brother is Sharla’s ex...
