Greetings all! Welcome to chapter three of my world travels. I reach the one year milestone on 24 June.
In the last four months, I left Johannesburg, South Africa 🇿🇦 and traveled to Gaborone, Botswana 🇧🇼 then flew up to the majestic Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe 🇿🇼. Came back into Botswana and did an incredible safari through Chobe and Moremi National Parks and the Okavango Delta. Took a separate trip to the Makgadikgadi Pans and then traveled to Windhoek, Namibia 🇳🇦. Visited the incredible Namib Naukluft Desert, west coast at Swakopmund/Walvis Bay and Etosha National Park.
Right now I’m chillaxing in Namibia’s capital city, Windhoek. Have a lovely apartment in the center of town with an Indian restaurant less than a block away. Yummy 😋
On 19 July, I fly north to Luanda, Angola.

Embark on an Unforgettable Adventure: Budget Safari Botswana
Introduction
Botswana, a land of untamed wilderness and breathtaking natural beauty, is a dream destination for safari enthusiasts. Known for its diverse landscapes, prolific wildlife, and commitment to conservation, this African gem offers an unrivaled safari experience. While the idea of a Botswana safari may conjure images of luxury lodges and high-end accommodations, it's essential to know that budget-friendly options are also available for those who want to explore this wildlife wonderland without breaking the bank. In this article, we'll delve into the world of Budget Safari Botswana, showcasing the incredible experiences awaiting travelers on a tighter budget.
Understanding Botswana's Safari Appeal
Botswana's allure as a safari destination stems from its pristine wilderness areas, notably the Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park, Moremi Game Reserve, and the Kalahari Desert. These regions teem with iconic African wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hippos, and countless bird species. The country's commitment to low-impact, high-quality tourism ensures that wildlife remains undisturbed and thrives in its natural habitat.
Choosing a Budget Safari in Botswana
Botswana offers a range of safari experiences tailored to different budgets. Here are some tips for planning an affordable adventure
Camping Safaris: One of the most economical ways to explore Botswana is by joining a camping safari. These tours provide the opportunity to sleep under canvas in the heart of the wilderness while enjoying guided game drives and immersive bush experiences. Many budget-friendly camping safaris are available, offering various durations and itineraries.
Self-Drive Safaris: Botswana's road infrastructure is generally good, making it accessible for self-drive safaris. Renting a 4x4 vehicle equipped with camping gear allows you to create your itinerary and explore the country at your own pace. This option offers flexibility and cost savings, particularly if you're traveling with a group.
Mobile Safaris: Mobile safaris combine the thrill of camping with the convenience of a guided tour. These tours move between different campsites, maximizing your chances of wildlife sightings. By participating in a mobile safari, you can enjoy the benefits of a guided experience while staying within budget.
Travel During Shoulder Seasons: Botswana's peak tourist season typically runs from June to August. To save on costs, consider traveling during the shoulder seasons of April to May or September to October. During these times, you can find lower prices on accommodations and tours while still enjoying excellent wildlife viewing opportunities.
Book in Advance: Planning your budget safari well in advance can help secure discounts and ensure availability. Botswana's popularity means that accommodations and tours can fill up quickly, especially during peak season.
Budget-Friendly Destinations and Activities
Chobe National Park: Known for its massive elephant herds, Chobe is an excellent destination for budget travelers. Camping options are available, and game drives along the Chobe River offer spectacular wildlife encounters.
Nxai Pan National Park: This remote park in the Makgadikgadi Pans offers budget-friendly camping options. It's an excellent place to witness the vast salt pans and unique desert-adapted wildlife.
Moremi Game Reserve: Located in the heart of the Okavango Delta, Moremi offers affordable camping options within its pristine wilderness. Expect encounters with predators, herbivores, and prolific birdlife.

Took a trip to Makgadikgadi Pans and Nxai Pan National Parks in Botswana. This was a solo trip and I had THREE PEOPLE dedicated to my enjoyment on this overnight trip. This crew pitched a tent, bathroom and shower and set up an eating area and firepit for cooking and enjoying the warmth of the fire... all for little old me! I was truly amazed at how this came together. My only complaint was that it was way too much driving(sitting in the vehicle) for an overnight trip.
