Hi, if you have seen the series, "Main Abdul Qadir Hoon," what did you think about it? If not I would recommend checking it out, it's really nice to see the character transition based on his experiences with the women in his life.

so i watched this drama almost a decade ago and remember that it was really popular (especially amongst the guys - considering the dramas was about a guy who wasn’t married and was a coming-of-age story. Also, the OST is a banger) and what essentially began Fahad Mustafa’s career.

Now that I look back, it has many problematic story lines that as an adult I am not okay with. The characters are very black/white. In the first 1/3 of the drama, Alishba Yousuf’s character is blatantly blamed for corrupting Abdul Qadir. In the next part, they show Aamina Sheikh’s character in black-face and has aids..where do I even being with the racism but moving on, Aamina Sheikh tells him to accept God and leave his alcoholic self behind(self evaluation and therapy are also effective tools). The last half is Abdul Qadir preaching to everyone that Islam is the only right path. Now, the drama belongs in the wtf category for me.

There have been bigger shows than Humsafar almost every year, you know that right? Zindagi Gulzar Hai was a rage. Pyaray Afzal’s finale was shown in freakin’ cinema halls like some big event. Mann Mayal was a weekly topic of discussion on social media every week of its airing. Udaari had this massive two hour finale cuz it was that big and the audience tuned in happily for that. Suno Chanda’s first season trended every single day bhayee and that too in Ramzan. Even before Humsafar there were shows whose impact could be seen in the audience in real time e.g Main Abdul Qadir Hoon. Wo chashmay toh sab hi ke paas the.

Idk what makes you think Humsafar created some phenomenal “uproar” that is yet to be replicated. It was a huge show but in the same manner as every hit show is. It’s just back then there was not a culture of celebrating dramas like it has become the norm nowadays. Or rather..it was a show that worked solely on the chemistry of its lead pairing in the time when drama’s content was more wholesome and tackled all manners of issues. Humsafar just ushered in a wave of adapting the romantic digest novels for screen cuz before it the digest writers gave their more socially relevant stories to be made into television plays. Hum took the success of the show and just rolled with it. I am not denying it wasn’t a huge show but it’s a myth that it was the first big show to reach heights or something. The content back then was limited. Social media was just beginning to gain momentum. Lots of factors contributed in making the show into a classic. Was it one of the first big shows of the decade? Sure. Is it the only show to reach some “heights” that other shows could only dream of? Nope. Fans of the show can delude themselves with the whole “sadken khali hojati theen every week when Humsafar aired” thing all they want but aisa bhi koi scene nahin tha.

He’s such a good actor and SUCH a pleasure to watch onscreen that its TRAGIC he doesn’t do dramas anymore! His last dramas were so blah and ajeeb and then he just completely transitioned to movies. It sucks! Tbvh I don’t think he’s gonna do TV anytime soon. He is producing high rating wale dramay, he is earning tonne of money with his game show, his movies are the big festival releases of the year. Why would he want to work on a tiring medium like tv again?
