New Mahindra Pik-Up Special Editions Were Made To Be Legends
Mahindra took its Karoo Dawn, Karoo Dusk and Karoo Storm double cabs on an epic three-week adventure which cemented the brand's durability in the minds of buyers.
Tumblr media
The Mahindra Karoo convoy departed to unforgiving terrain in South Africa, Namibia and Lesotho.
“In June, we revealed our new corporate identity and our brand promise – to Unleash the Explorer in You. While every Mahindra bakkie or SUV delivers on that promise, the three Karoo flagship models do so with aplomb,” says Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa.
“We realise that Mahindra is in a unique position to help South Africans unleash their inner explorer with our range of accessible and affordable products and with made-for-purpose adventure vehicles like the Karoo Dusk, Dawn and Storm.”
The Mahindra Adventure
Departing from the Mahindra head office in Centurion, Gauteng, the expedition of three Pik Ups started heading west to the border of South Africa and Namibia.
Along the way, they visited some of the most demanding off-road trails and routes in the Free State and Northern Cape as well as the Mahindra dealers en route.
The convoy also made its way to KwaZulu-Natal to conquer some of the most challenging 4×4 courses and routes that they can find. From here, they made their way back to Mahindra’s South African headquarters.
“Each leg of our tour was carefully chosen for its beauty, its challenging routes and its proximity to some of our best-performing dealers. We will visit the dealers along the route to show them the new Karoo Dawn, Dusk and Storm and to whet their customers’ appetite,” says Rajesh.
The team was led on an adventure at every step of the journey with clues they receive daily from Mahindra and their task is to navigate to their destination. Customers following the adventure, could live the journey and become part of the experience.
Tumblr media
Flagship features made accessible
The Mahindra Dawn, Dusk and Storm together form the flagship model range for Mahindra’s Authentic Bakkie range. All three models are fitted with a dedicated heavy-duty, off-road suspension that is unique to these models.
All three models are equipped with Mahindra’s tried and trusted 2.2 mHawk turbodiesel engine that delivers 103kW and 320Nm.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels, in 2WD, or to all wheels in 4WD low- and high-range via the Mahindra six-speed automatic transmission.
While each version is unique in its design, all three versions share luxuries such as climate control, electric windows, cruise control and leather seats.
Also standard across all three models are a special hardy Karoo carpet set, a nudge bar, a load bin-mounted Karoo sports bar and a rubberised load bin. A custom-designed set of hardened off-road rims are fitted to all three models, including to their spare wheels.
Mahindra has also fitted a custom-designed, off-road approach and departure bumper set to all three flagship models. These bumpers are anchored to the chassis and have LED front fog lamps, heavy-duty steel recovery points, non-slip steps and even a ready-to-fit space for a winch.
Lastly, all three flagship models also have a new 9-inch touch-screen infotainment system with HD display, in-built maps and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The Karoo Dusk, Karoo Storm and Karoo Dawn models are all sold with a 4-year/120 000km mechanical warranty and a 5-year/90 000km service plan.

For anyone that wants some race recommendations for FE, here are my top 3 race recommendations (as a JEV and chaos fan) from every season. (I am also biased for many other drivers which you will see.)
Season 1
Of course you have to watch the first race (Beijing). First race of the series, Nick Heidfeld flip (literally.) Just the opportunity to actually watch the first race of a racing series shouldn't be passed up.
Next, is Buenos Aires because watching Antonio (Da Costa) win that race in that car was like a fever dream. Actually that was the moment where you realised that there was so much possibly for many drivers in this series.
And lastly is the first London race with Sam's (Bird) home win and another JEV podium. To watch a driver win a home race is always special.
Season 2
Mexico because Jérôme won (outliner wins.)
London finale (both race definitely.) The Buemi/DiGrassi rivalry was incredible the entire season but the double header? Wow.
Season 3
Omg Berlin. I loved Felix (Rosenqvist) when he was at FE and that Mahindra area was just so beautiful.
Montreal. When JEV finally won it was like a long time coming and the start of an era.
The first New York race. I am a Sam fan and that entire double header was just beautiful. Truly a great track.
Season 4
Santiago!!! Omg the Jeandré race. The records that were set here, the start of JEV's streak, everything about this race. This is iconic.
Mexico! Daniel (Abt) finally won a race and it was great. Also that atmosphere at the track could not be beaten.
The last one is though but for me as a fan it would have the be the last race when JEV fully won the championship. But the second Hong Kong race or Berlin deserve just as much attention.
Season 5
Marrakesh! Jérôme and Mahindra had everyone cheering for them that race. Literally such a beautiful heartwarming win.
Listen I am critical about rain races but I just can't not talk about Paris. That podium had my heart. And as the first genuine rain race you have to watch it.
Again, there are so many great third picks here. Rome (nearly the Lotterer win) could be it or Santiago? Or Bern?
Season 6
Diryah (the second race.) I miss Alex (Sims) soo much.
The third Berlin race. This is complelty biased because I loved all the drivers on that podium and we had a driver win at his home race. Listen, that Berlin 6 race final was cursed but it was also fun.
I would add Marrakesh just to escape the Berlin hell. But again, I also think there are so many great other races like Santiago with Max (Günthers) first win.
Season 7
Again biased pick but the first Rome race! A JEV win with a chaotic race.
The second London race! Alex Lynn! The man, the myth, the legend.
I would say the second Mexico race because I adore Edo.
This season is meh mostly because of the qualy format affecting racing negatively.
Still has bangers though.
Season 8
New York first race! Nick Cassidy finally winning a race. Also I love New York as a race so biased.
The second Rome race. Again Rome often offers great racing and I especially loved the second podium on that double header.
I think Monaco is great because you have both championship fighters on the podium in 1-2.
Season 9
Hyderabad! JEV win!
Cape Town! What a wonderful first race we had there.
Monaco has to be here because you had all three championship fighters on the podium (also I adore Nick Cassidy and think he should have won that championship because I am petty like that. )
Bottom line is there are so many great races in FE and every single one is worth watching because of the fun and unpredictability. Add to that the clear lack of one front runner or even a true top of the grid and you have potential for genuine great racing.
Please if you have the time watch all the races for yourself because every single one (even the ones I dislike) deserve your attention.

hi hazel, incredibly upset pascal fan here. don’t wanna fool myself into thinking he still has a shot to the title, but i would rather ask you how would you rate his season, especially compared to the previous ones in which he probably had tougher luck
heya; man, it's been a rough weekend for the FE fellas innit :(((
Pascal's had a very strong season. something I feel like people really underestimate about him is he's one of the drivers who came from F1 and almost instantly adapted to Formula E. Stoffel had the same ability, which is honestly commendable but he came in with all the machinery of Mercedes around him and with the knowledge he and the team had a year of learning as his first one.
Pascal wasn't in quite such a comfortable position; he had to hit the ground running at Mahindra to keep his seat. he doesn't have a WEC side gig or GTs to fall back on, he basically got so dropped he had to make it work. Mahindra is a relatively hard team to do that in - everyone there is lovely and works super hard but they are a small outfit compared to the factory teams and Pascal had to miss the first round because of his antagonistic Mercedes contract ties.
given that, his results have always been strong. clearly the Porsche factory team was not immediately on it, as a group and there was some significant operational frustration in the early years of him being there, including losing the victory to an admin error that, honestly, F4 teams have to do and the ex-LMP1 team should've been more than familiar with declaring tyre sets seeing as you have to do it all the time in endurance.
despite Porsche's gremlins, Pascal clearly stood out as the lead driver. although actually him and Andre scored fairly equal points across the two years they were teammates (Pascal had the upper hand but by a smaller margin than you'd think) it's been very obvious he got to grips with Gen3 quicker than Antonio did this year.
you could argue that was because Pascal did more of Porsche's specific development work than Antonio, who was still at Techeetah, did. except that no one was really doing any development work on Gen3 during Season 8, aside from powertrain building and with the best will in the world the drivers are not likely to be consulting on ECU chip packaging. the chassis were delivered so late almost no testing took place before the end of last season and some manufacturers hadn't even received a car, so it's less of an advantage than it should have been if the development had been kept to a reasonable timeline.
Pascal hit the ground running this year and took those early podiums. his results since haven't been as stellar, Jakarta win aside but he has been consistent, something it is nearly impossible to be in Formula E. he's picked up points whenever he can and he's stayed in the title fight because of that, with an incredible record of non-attrition compared to the majority of drivers.
if I was gonna do a video essay about Pascal's season and lord knows I'm pretty low on employment right now maybe I should, then it'd look at just how well he's managed to stay in the points. I can only think of one comparative season, which'd be Robin Frijns in contention without a win in Season 7.
he clearly can still take wins, as he ably demonstrated in Jakarta. Porsche's qualifying pace is off the boil and Jake Dennis being a wizard is also part of Andretti having been in FE since the very beginning, with all the operational experience that brings, compared to factory Porsche still being an ex-LMP1 squad playing at the world's weirdest single seaters.
(I'd also do a video essay on how being the customer team can be an advantage in Formula E. and like 12 on what the hell is going on in half the teams. unfortunately my phone would probably explode trying but anyway.)
overall I'd probably rank Pascal very highly in a list of FE drivers of the season. I think anyone underestimating his season would be talking rubbish; he's been clean, kept his head together and you can see that from where he still is in the standings. he hasn't completely made Antonio look like a fool (he certainly isn't one) but being 53 points ahead of a guy with many seasons more experience in FE and who took the most dominant championship win ever is, even on paper a good season.
to add the detail from following it, I think Pascal has put together some superb performances. he's only qualified higher than sixth twice (in Diriyah and Jakarta) and won both of those races. he also won in Diriyah from ninth. his Portland pace was particularly impressive to come from 20th to eighth in a race with severe energy constraints.
it's very clear that he has matured his own style of driving in and experience of Formula E and that he's evolved into a driver who is more than capable of doing what is very important in FE, which is being able to manage the whole race yourself. the team of course helps with that with all preparation but at the end of the day you are alone in the car executing the strategy, with nothing they can really do to help you on it, without pit stops.
I think Pascal is going to have a long career in FE, he's clearly clever enough to do it (you really have to be pretty damn smart, in all top level motorsport but particularly FE because you are your own engineer in the races) and more than competitive. his adaptation to Gen3 has been superb and it's only the first year.
