Intertwining Paths (p.2)
(Part one) Tw: Blood, semi-gore, violence. M: He chuckled in response, more so as she mentioned his status. “Perhaps. But then again, was it really treason ? Or was it pettiness ? I swear on the Fury some of you sometimes retaliate the tiniest of mistakes with the harshness of punishments for no reason at all. Once again, the tired sigh was heard coming from his lips. The tiredness that came from a past of dealing with said pettiness, one that never affected him per say, but it was not amused to watch, and still is not, but he wasn’t sure if that was the case, the man wasn’t too reassuring either, the one pleading for their life. The emotionless facade made it hard for the man to peer into Ondrea’s soul, to see what type of person she was, few had the skill to hide their demeanor, fewer still that would shroud their emotion from his gaze. He was intrigued with the woman, despite the lingering possibility of bloody violence that could unfold. And yet it was not the man’s desire to reach that point. If he succeeded, he would have returned to his boredom of a wanderer, if he would fail, he would die. Both outcomes were undesired, so he attempted to do something he was not the best at: Diplomacy. Urgh, how he loathed the prospect of cowering when you can simply intimidate, he looked at the man, but he didn’t doubt Ondrea’s words, he just doubted the circumstances, so he turned to ask the Raven haired woman. “Tell me. Was it treason, or /incompetence/ ?” He waved his hand towards the man, now not looking at him anymore, he had seen enough of his demeanor to judge. “Did he actively reveal secrets, or did he just not keep them safe enough ? There is a difference, I would like to think.” At the mention of his lack of authority, the man would simply chuckle, and place the left hand, the one not on the sword under his hip. “I do not require lawful Authority to act. I have shed those bonds and chains a while ago, with all due respect, Lady Ondrea.” His eyes did not wave away from the woman, and unlike her, he portrayed very clear emotions, curiosity, amusement, and otherwise intriguing emotions. Did he really care for the victim at this point ? He never truly did, punishing the guilt was enough, people die everyday. He would then walk closer, his footsteps slower as they could be, he walked until he reached about 30 feet of the woman, still not in arm’s length to draw his weapon, but now the moonlight would be enough to pierce the veil of the night and reveal his features in detail. “Your man seems impatient. I am assuming a bodyguard, but why is a bodyguard impatient ?” He commented, not specifying which of the two he was referring to, another attempt to poke through Ondrea’s armor, but even if that would work, it would not be enough, so instead he would make his own intent clear. He sighed. “I have no desire of fighting the three of you tonight. I believe I could win. Probably would, actually. But even then, there is always a risk, and even if I did win, I am unsure if the lad is worth the hassle.” He gestured at the man that seemed to look at Magnos with pleading eyes, ‘three of you’ he mentioned, indicating he considered Ondrea among the threats, and not just the guards. “And so, here I am, asking questions, wanting to decide.” His eyes would shift towards the two other members of her house, and he would say, not necessarily to the two of them, but thrown into the air, whilst his gaze returned to Ondrea. “In situations like these, usually the ones that draw their weapon first, lose.” O: A low, seemingly amused chuckle lifted from the hearth of her throat. It was as if a veil had been lifted, revealing a glimpse of a smile on her countenance for the very first time since their initial encounter. However, a discerning eye would quickly notice a sinister undertone lurking beneath the surface of that smile, hinting at a darker, hidden wickedness. As quickly as it surfaced, it dissipated upon her rejoinder.
"Even you would find yourself teetering on the brink of insanity if subjected to the nonsensical ramblings that spill forth from that wretched man's mouth," Ondrea remarked with her attention readily anchored to the assailants visage. "The gravity of the situation is far more profound than mere gossip or betrayal; mistakes of this magnitude have the power to shatter lives irreparably, regardless of the circumstances. His fatal error lay in his treacherous scheme against my blood. A misstep that will ultimately seal his fate. Actions of his own volition begets consequence.”
The man's eyes looked to be clouded with a mixture of exhaustion and fear while his face possessed a leathery, filthy appeal and yet it did little to stop Ondrea from reaching over and coaxing his regard up to meet hers by the guide of a leather clad finger.
Once more, her voice broke above his breathing, her eyes lazily half-closed as she gazed upon his pitiful expression. "These circumstances are far from ordinary. I take no pleasure in this." she lied with her smooth tone and unfazed composure, belying the falsehoods that effortlessly rolled off her tongue. Despite the gravity of the situation, she maintained an air of control, expertly masking her true feelings. She truly cared not for this man as he himself displayed his lack of concern for her and her blood.
Ondrea redirected her gaze towards Magnos, her delicate finger gracefully slipping away from the firm grip on the man's chin. The air was thick with tension as she contemplated her next move, her eyes gleaming with a mixture of curiosity and determination. "Now, the choice lies in your hands, Magnos. Will you dare challenge my discernment, or will you embrace the opportunity to etch your name into the illustrious annals of this esteemed House?" Ondrea's eyes flickered with a sense of challenge, daring him to make a decision that would shape his fate.
Cormac looked from Ondrea to Magnos and with an upturned palm he gestured effortlessly to their captive as if to wordlessly imply 'all yours'. M: He listened to her words, and did not find her chuckle amusing, he suspected that she did for the same reason he did the same before: Either amusement, or to provoke a reaction, and he would give her none, not yet anyway. His eyes followed hers, despite the dark, and as she spoke, he began to grow more agitated, fingers scratching against each other, fists clenching and unclenching. He noted the man’s exhaustion. Eyes he had seen before, in other faces, he frowned, the emerald gaze returned to the woman in black. “You don’t strike as the type to leave witnesses. Lady Ondrea Cress.” Her name rolled out of his tongue carrying honeyed words, crossing his arms together and growing a slight smirk on his lips. There was a small desire to save the man… but. “Even If I would fight them, and save you, fellow.” He didn’t look at him, merely indicated that he was referring to the man about to die, his eyes were still locked into Ondrea’s. “You would never sleep comfortably again, you’d be watching over your shoulder. You were doomed from your decisions, to serve their house, and your inability to do so. Next time, build a farm or something.” He sighed, adding later. “I am very sorry to hear that the direct and predictable results of your actions happened to you.” Talk about putting a man down gently, but to Magnos’s eyes, that was a fool. An idiot. He would not risk his skin over a fool. Moreover, he didn’t know the reach of her house, and whether or not they’d make a pain in his ass if he confronted them, as his final saying on the matter, he simply raised his hand to make a dismissive wave towards the man’s life. It was gone, forfeit, and he did not care anymore. But that was not the end of the story, for the Vigilante wasn’t about… saving lives. Not directly anyway. “But I am witness now, as said before, Ondrea.” This time, he skipped formality, and his eyes returned to hers without a hint of sarcasm, or amusement, he was serious, his glare was piercing. “Are you just disposing of this man hastily so your own guard is available to overwhelm me with numbers ? What is going to happen next ?” Despite leaving the decision to the woman, his eyes exhaled a certain tiredness, but his hand firmly gripped at the pommel of his sword, he was ready to draw it, should necessary, but rather not. One that was perceptive would know how the man’s own shadow flickered as he spoke the last words… Perhaps it was just an illusion, or perhaps it was just the man’s subconscious preparing for a battle. Still, curiosity would prevent him from running, he needed to see how it would end. O: The man seemed to possess no ounce of worth or significance, neither in his identity nor in anything else. As Magnos uttered his conclusive words, a profound sense of despair engulfed the betrayer, extinguishing any flicker of hope he had desperately clung to. It was not Ondrea's words that brought about this realization, but rather the impact of Magnos'.
"By fire and flame I will be pure. The brimstone of which you were birthed --" He spat out. "You---your cunt sister and that bastard of a bro---"
The movement happened with incredible speed. Maybe Magnos could sense a gentle impression of shifting air as Ondrea swiftly pivoted on her heel and, without warning, found herself face to face with her prisoner, her sharp claws piercing into his throat with wanton abandon. A heavy silence loomed over them like a threatening shroud, with only the sound of the nearby babbling brook breaking the stillness. Yet, what truly stood out was the eerie green light that emanated from her eyes, a hue that erased the warmth of molten gold and replaced it with a sinister glow.
As her sharp talons gradually pierced through the tender flesh, a distinct and tangible scent of blood stained the surrounding atmosphere.
"--I couldn't comprehend your words amidst your desperate pleas." Her voice was like a dirge.
Although no words of supplication escaped his trembling lips, the contorted expression on his face mirrored the agony that consumed him. His mouth hung open, resembling a helpless fish gasping for air, a silent plea for mercy that fell on deaf ears.
"The subject of my sister or my brother should lace that tongue of yours with poison. Should you have been graced with their sentence, I imagine you would have been given some semblance of hope---however, the fates saw it befitting for your punishment to be dealt by my hand." As her gloved knuckles tightened beneath the smooth, obsidian leather, a surge of power coursed through her veins. The pressure exerted by her grip caused a sudden eruption of blood, a vivid display of crimson.
In a desperate frenzy, his hands flailed and clawed, a futile attempt to escape the clutches of his tormentor. At first, his movements were frantic, his feet thrashing against the unforgiving stone and damp earth. However, as the crimson rivulets continued to flow from between her fingers, his struggle gradually waned.
Ondrea spoke loudly enough for Magnos to comprehend.
"Light your candles." she declared, emphasizing the significance of their House’s words. The profound meaning behind this concise expression perfectly captured the essence of the impending downfall that ominously overshadowed him. In one swift motion, she forcefully tore his jugular vein away from its dwelling, leaving no trace of mercy. The air was filled with the weighty sound of blood droplets and the gruesome sight of flesh fragments cascading down to the earth, followed by the resounding thud of his lifeless body meeting in tandem.
Slowly, the tendrils of his aether dispersed in thickly lofts till it seeped seemingly within the ether. Gone and soon to be forgotten.
With a quick movement of her wrist, Ondrea dispersed the blood from her fingers before glancing back to Magnos.
"My 'guard' are here at the behest of my brother. Should I have the option, I would have chosen to conduct this matter of my own accord, however my name has be etched upon the parchment of those who would rather see my head perched upon a spike. You are, indeed, witness to this execution. A matter of your own doing, should we speak of truths."
Cormac and the Cress Guard proceeded to collect the bloodied and dead man, making not to look back at the duo as they dragged him further along the river end.
"--This was meant to be less messy." She mused aloud, seemingly to no one in particular as she spared a cursory glance down to her freshly wet clawed fingers. "-As for the matter of what is to happen next--well--" The green which possessed her eyes previously waned, though the outline of her golden hues were still lined with the color. "--that's entirely up to you. I don't make it my mission to spill the blood of innocents." This did little to spare the derisive look she gave him, from root to stem. "--No matter where they fall on that list. You are a lone pair of eyes in a sea of darkness." With that bloodied hand she upturned her palm and gestured to the still quiet surrounding them.
"You could sing your pontifications and they will, most likely, fall upon deaf ears. A mad-man, screaming heresy among a most esteemed House that has done nothing but provide for the people of Eorzea--or, you may join them. Glory is for hero's. You will find no such thing here but matter and purpose you will find in abundance. No one, not even myself could stop you should you choose to depart, but those pretty green eyes of yours may very well be looking over your shoulder in the manner you proposed to that dead man."
The rocks yielded to the weight of her boots as she drew nearer. She extended her hand, the one adorned with a crimson stain, towards him, a gesture both audacious and peculiar.
"What say you, Magnos?"

Streamily.com Presents: The Steven Universe Cast Reunion Q&A Part 1
Here's a complete overview of the Q&A that was put on by Streamily, hosted by Elijah ("Not-So-Average Fangirl"), featuring Rebecca Sugar as the showrunner/creator, Deedee Magno Hall as Pearl, Lo (formerly known as Charlyne Yi) as Ruby, Estelle as Garnet, Susan Egan as Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond, Tom Scharpling as Greg Universe, Michaela Dietz as Amethyst/Famesthyst, and Larissa Gallagher as Bluebird Azurite. Read below to find out about a secret scrapped episode, Rebecca's comment on how to look at Rose Quartz, and lots of hilarious commentary from the cast about the experience of voicing characters on Steven Universe.
When the stream opened, everyone did their introductions:
Rebecca said they created the show.
Deedee said she played Pear. LOL, then said Pearl.
Lo said they played Ruby.
Susan said I play Rose . . . (with a cringe) and Pink.
Tom said "I was Greg, and I still am Greg, I guess."
Michaela: "Famethyst for life baby!"
Larissa played Bluebird, and a little bit like the character, she pops up when you don't expect it!
Estelle was not on the call at the very beginning but joined shortly after the questions began.
Here are the questions and the participants' answers!
Q: There were so many messages in SU. Which one do you hope viewers keep with them the most?
A (Rebecca): Rebecca learned to trust themself in being the authority about who they are. They were a bit rocky on this issue when the show began in their twenties, and learned they needed to be true to the art they made. That was reflected in the characters too. They hope people watching will learn to trust in themselves too, in the face of other people trying to tell you who you are.
Q: For Deedee Magno Hall: Pearl grew and changed in the show. How did it feel playing her in the first few episodes vs. the last few?
A (Deedee): There was no way for Deedee to know Pearl's journey when she started voicing her. She relied on Rebecca and the Crew to learn how to voice Pearl. The group had been talking about the pilot before they jumped onto the call, and Deedee says if she had listened side by side to what Pearl sounded like in the Pilot and what she ended up sounding like at the end, Pearl (along with character growth), vocally got exaggerated--it was Deedee's voice but really "went there"! Pearl felt so many feels. Deedee hopes she executed it well direction-wise. What a blast to play Pearl! And to see the growth in her character! It was fun and a challenge, and Deedee was grateful!
Q: For Michaela Dietz: Amethyst is silly and chaotic usually--what did Michaela pull from for the more emotional and serious moments?
A (Michaela): Many of the more emotional moments are about figuring out origins (the Kindergarten, etc.). Michaela is a transracial / transnational adoptee, so she pulled from that and was looking for her birth family while they were recording the Kindergarten episode. That was an easy well to tap. The growth that Amethyst had over the course of the series and movie and Future, Michaela feels like it parallels her relationship with the other actors and their characters. She's grateful to have made so many friends and is so happy to have learned so much from Rebecca (she joked about calling Rebecca "Reba").
Q: Question for all: If you could hang out with your character for one day, what would you do?
A (Rebecca): Steven is based on their brother, so they would love to spend time with Steven. It was challenging through Covid to not spend time with Steven. They always make time for Steven. They love spending time with people who played the characters! They never got to have a wrap party because of Covid! They were together for 8 years and they still want to have a belated wrap party. They would also love to spend time with Ruby (the self-insert character) and they love spending time with Lo too. Then they said "I need to be stopped because I'll go through every person."
Announcement: Estelle just joined!
Belatedly, the mod asks Estelle's question: Garnet is such an iconic character. Did Estelle know she was a Fusion from the beginning?
A (Estelle): No. She was the big grown Gem who took care of the others. She found out in real time with the cast when she did the recording. She was surprised by the lines in real time and had to calm herself down to record each line. She felt it was an honor.
Back to the "all: question of what each would do if they could hang out with their character.
A (Deedee), misunderstanding the question: If she could hang out with characters, would do tae bo with Garnet, get french fries with Steven, and have a karaoke and dance party with Amethyst.
A (Lo): When they were in kindergarten they would spit all over a tree and try to cover it with their spit. If they hung out with Ruby, they would ask for Ruby's help spitting on trees. There would be lots of hugging, punching pillows, etc. The moderator Elijah thinks fan artists will have fun with that.
A (Estelle): If she hung out with Garnet, she would ask Garnet to give her all the future information. She would want to borrow her "future vision goggles" too and want to know the future.
A (Tom): He would just drive around with Greg and listen to records. Go eat more. And end up going bowling.
A (Michaela): She would eat trash with Amethyst (and also some quality food?). They would mess around the San Gabriel Valley, get meal after meal, maybe buy an illegal turtle? No, that's not funny. They might hit up Ruby and spit on trees. Take in some underground wrestling. Amethyst is very intensely chill, and Michaela thinks they could do a great many things together.
A (Larissa): Going from intensely chill to intensely chaotic. She wants to bring it down from chaos and go ride Lion on the beach, with Bluebird carrying swords.
A (Susan): She wants to go into Rose's room to unpack. Pearl would need to be with her to Marie Kondo the situation. Then she would throw on a Universe shirt and hit music festivals.
Deedee realizes she misunderstood the question and wants to add: if she hung out with Pearl they would do laundry and some spring, summer, winter, and fall cleaning. Definitely Marie Kondo-ing the whole universe together.
Q for Susan Egan: Rose turned out to be a very complex character. As the story progressed and more about her was revealed, did Susan's approach to voicing her change?
A (Susan): She can't sing the praises of Rebecca enough: Susan didn't know at all what Rose's deal was. She got some hate comments when it was revealed that she was Pink, and she LOVED that because it meant the fans were invested. She was as shocked as everyone else. Pink was aging in reverse; Rose was wise and flawed, and then Susan would be voicing Pink and had to be petulant and immature, and she's thankful for Rebecca's direction in getting that right.
Q for Lo: Ruby is adorable. We got to meet so many versions of her. Other than Garnet's Ruby, which Ruby was Lo's favorite to play, and why?
A (Lo): They loved playing Navy. They got to be hammy. They ask if you know how when you order stuff at the drive-thru and you become that? They don't know why. It felt good. While voicing Ruby, they got to get in touch with how angry they were. Being seen as an Asian woman, it was nice to have a spot to channel that anger, and being Navy is like making fun of who you have to become when you're a people-pleaser. "I LOVE DIRT!"
Q for Tom Scharpling: Greg is an eccentric but loving father. What was Tom's favorite part of playing him and does he have a favorite scene?
A (Tom): Doing Greg was so fun. It's not Tom but it's more him than he thought all along. He had never done voice stuff before this, so he went in completely new. A script would say "walla walla" but he thought he was supposed to say "walla walla." Everybody laughed at him. He knew literally nothing about proper voice acting. So he got to really try and work at it. It was so satisfying to get to better at it. Anything from "Mr. Greg" was the big one in terms of a memorable episode. It was the best time.
Q for Larissa Gallagher: Bluebird Azurite is quite a menace. Did she listen to the individual Ruby and Aquamarine voice acting for inspiration?
A (Larissa): Yes. The script said Bluebird was Cockney, so she already knew what to aim for, but it turned out that taking those inspirations from the two characters she's made of would have led to this kind of voice naturally.
Q for All: Where do you each of the participants think their character is now and what are they doing?
A (Rebecca): To the cast, they know what the characters are up to post-show, but they can't say, it's too canonical.
A (Deedee): Says she doesn't know what canonical means. Pearl is probably doing more laundry and working on an album.
A (Lo): They guess they're just . . . fused. (Perhaps separating for scouting?) They might play Ruby Rider but not alone anymore. Interdependence, learning how to ground; Lo is not really sure how to answer since they feel like Ruby would spend most of her time as Garnet.
A (Estelle): She doesn't know. She figures Garnet sees what was gonna happen and just said "mmm." Just chilling. Even when she's fighting she has to be chill with the fighting-related grunting. She got direction to "flatline" her acting. She found it pretty natural though.
A (Tom): Greg is probably right where everything started again. Maybe working at a GameStop. Maybe he owns a bowling alley now. When asked what Greg would name it, he replies "Strikes and Spares."
A (Michaela): Amethyst would randomly get rich with Bitcoin and is retired. Maybe she would play Taiwanese Mahjong. Living a great retired life.
A (Larissa): Bluebird would be plotting and scheming and planning. Probably on a big planning board.
A (Susan): If Rose and/or Pink exists on any level, the only appropriate thing for her to be up to is community service. Like cleaning up trash at the bowling alley? Susan thinks it's time to start having a positive impact.
Q for Rebecca Sugar: Were there any scenes that ended up on the cutting room floor that you wish you could have included?
A (Rebecca): There was a bunker episode that they spent weeks on trying to crack; they wish they'd finished it. Ronaldo had a doomsday bunker. Sadie and Lars were trapped in it (with Steven). There's no way to leave. They were working on it so long and just couldn't make it work but they were determined to (maybe a little bit of the sunk cost fallacy!).
But usually the things that got left on the floor ended up evolving and changing into something different, even if they were really attached to the original idea. The idea for "Barn Mates" was originally that Sadie and Lapis would be the roommates with Sadie going to college. They feel that the Sadie story they ended up actually using was great. They love what they ended up doing with Lapis too.
In the very earliest version of "Giant Woman," Steven was going to unfuse into the two parts of him. And his "perfect" form, the big glowing muscular adult-looking Steven, was a Season 1 idea, and they didn't use him until Future. (After all, our roly-poly Steven is perfect!)
Now there are some fan-submitted questions. Their usernames are included.
Q for Deedee Magno Hall, from Makittuu: In what ways is Pearl special to you?
A (Deedee): She feels like a broken record, but she says again she was grateful to be voicing someone with the same natural voice as she had, and she had always wanted to be able to sing in a cartoon. She loves that she got to sing in the show. Pearl was the first major voice acting role that she had ever done and there's no way she would have known what the show was going to become and how successful it would be. She was auditioning for everything and was new to voice acting at the time. But one thing that she loved about voicing Pearl is that she got to share the experience with her kids. She connected the love Pearl had for Steven with the love she had for her sons. When she started voicing Pearl her kids were 2 and 8. For them to be able to watch Steven Universe on TV and hear Mommy's voice was so cool to share with her family. Now her kids are 13 and 19!
Q for Estelle, from Gonosoi: Do you have any fun stories from recording your lines on the show?
A (Estelle): When she was going through things in her life--and she thinks this is true no matter where you are or how you identify--the show somehow could speak to whatever she was going through. The lines would often be relevant. She'd come in with sunglasses on because it was early for her and her voice would be low. She'd be crying behind her glasses in difficult moments. She liked a fresh first take instead of knowing ahead of time what she'd be reading, so she didn't read the script ahead of time. She was surprised by needing to do the "ugh" and "ah" noises in different ways. It'd be difficult vocally. With Michaela, Zach, and Deedee, in between the lines and reading things together, hearing them switch back and forth between talking about life and then doing their recordings, it was so cool to see them do their work.
Q for Michaela Dietz, from Mal: Which one of your other characters would get along well with Amethyst?
A (Michaela): Definitely Vee from The Owl House. Maybe Maj'el from Star Trek Prodigy. She would be so "What is this purple being? Why do you eat? Where does the food go?" She'd be fascinated with Amethyst. And Michaela feels like Amethyst would thrive and try to do weird stuff in response. The shapeshifting she has in common with Vee. They'd get up to some trouble. Fun trouble. Harmless trouble. (Another fanart cue!)
Q for Susan Egan, from Gladde: Does Susan feel that Rose forgot about Spinel? Does she think she wanted to go back?
A (Susan): Susan thinks a lot was forgotten in her mind when she became Rose. Rose was so enamored of what's in front of her in every moment; she lives in the moment and can be a good quality but obviously Susan didn't know all of that when she was recording! Steven Universe is her kids' favorite thing she's done. Rebecca?
A (Rebecca): So much of the show is about how--something that was ultimately captured in the end credits song-- when you don't think of yourself as someone with power, Pink had less power than everyone around her, and she didn't know how much she mattered to others. She did things to them that she didn't think twice about because her importance to others didn't register. Feeling that she didn't matter, it radiated out. To her--her relationship with Spinel, Spinel was a toy to her. When she got a chance to grow up, she thought it made sense to leave Spinel behind. Pink is actually a softened version of what she was originally planned to be like. The sympathetic side of that and her self deprecation grew as they developed Pink over time. In aspiring to be a better person than she thought she was, that became who she was.
A (Susan): Rebecca brought all these characters' complexity to the table. It's easy to make things two-dimensional but people are complicated and we need to look at that in context. Good and bad can exist in the same person. She doesn't want Rose to always want to think about being Pink, but she thinks it helped her want to save more characters as Rose.
A (Rebecca): Rebecca likes to think of the Pink Diamond / Rose character as a cautionary tale.
Q for Lo, from stiffcorpse00: What kind of dates would Ruby and Sapphire go on?
A (Lo): Axe-throwing. They reference walking through doors and accidentally crashing into the frame, and they say "That's me." So they wouldn't do axe-throwing personally. Maybe Ruby and Sapphire would get some boba. Go walking. Teach Ruby how to float in water back because anger makes Ruby sink. Helping Ruby get anger out by screaming into pillows. Swinging one way and the other way.
Michaela suggests they could go to a rage room.
Lo objects that they're so expensive, and that they could just break stuff without needing to pay for it.
Susan suggests it'd be a writeoff because it's for work.
Lo says they'll go there and take a date.
Michaela says the experience is exhausting and therefore you don't need much time there.
Lo says a Ruby and Sapphire date involving paintball would be great, but everyone would run from Sapphire. Ruby's rage would get in the way. Sapphire would coldly get everyone.
There is more discussion of smashing fax machines and glass etc. in a rage room. Deedee asks "What is a fax machine?"
Q for Tom Scharpling, from GalixyYouniverse: What was his reaction to Greg getting his hair cut and was he upset?
A (Tom): He was fine with it. He was always coming from a different place than everyone else. His change would be getting rich or getting a haircut. Everyone else's was huge and cosmic. Anything with Greg, he related to Greg more than he should admit to.
Rebecca points out they have like drawings from 2013 with Greg with short hair. Sacrificing hair in a battle is something they always wanted to do.
Q for Larissa Gallagher from 1F4cnt4ND: How does she think Aquamarine and Ruby met and what was it like when they fused?
A (Larissa): She says it was a little bit mean to put her after Tom answering about the hair cut! But she doesn't know. If she had to say anything, it'd be existential. When you meet someone and you get that ball of energy inside you and you don't know whether it's good or bad--you don't know what's going to happen but something will happen. She likes to think that's the kind of energy that evolved. It didn't go in the most helpful emotional way but it was that moment attraction that no one can explain. Rebecca?
A (Rebecca): They had discussed in the writers room what Steven's influence is on Homeworld, how there'd be all these Gems on the wrong side of history, whether they were high status like Aquamarine or low like Eyeball, they'd pool into an out-group and meet to be frustrated about it. They'd been working on something that made sense before Steven changed the rules. Different types of fusions / collaborations and one born out of frustration and spite was one they wanted on the show.
Q for all participants, from trynottohappen: What was the hardest scene to record?
A (Susan): The first thing she did as Rose was the VHS tape. The monologue was her first time playing a mother, and it spoke to her heart. Like Michaela looking for her biological parents, there's something the character can teach you. Susan had to pull herself together after reading it--she needed to be joyful about her progeny coming. It makes her weep even today. It was one of her favorite things. She loved recorded with Deedee, and loved the love between them, the betrayal of Rose to Pearl, when we finally get to know what was really going on between them.
A (Larissa): The scene where Bluebird revealed her backstory of why they felt the way they felt. The complexity of the characters in the show, the hate isn't just "I hate because someone did this and said that." It's grounded, a real space of hurt that can never be fixed. Having to recreate that and not hate the character but love the character because of how much pain they were in. That was difficult but incredible.
A (Michaela): The hardest scenes were toward the end because she knew the show was ending. They were cherishing every moment together. In 2016, the day after the election, that was a hard day. Everybody was really distraught. There was a group hug at the end. In a time of such uncertainty, it gave her so much solace to know they had each other and they had art, they had ways of expressing themselves, that day sticks out.
A (Tom): For him, the songs were difficult. He would get sent a demo Rebecca recorded the night before, he's driving into NYC from New Jersey and listening to the song for hours all morning so he'd have it in his head, and then would be so nervous doing the songs because he didn't want the whole recording to be just him going word by word, line by line. The songs were the big thing he was hung up on. He'd try to do the songs first, then the spoken lines, and then the things where he yelled--he'd end up screaming sometimes and he'd not have a voice left. He wanted to do right by these very special songs. He jokes that Rebecca said he let them down over and over. (Rebecca denies.)
A (Estelle): She doesn't remember many hard moments. She'd attribute that to Rebecca's direction. She took a laid-back approach. The grunts and noises weren't familiar but also weren't difficult for her. She'd drink tea after. Real life would be happening but they always had each other in their bubble.
A (Lo): The Ruby Rider episode was the most fun and the hardest. They always wanted to play a cowboy! They were also going through a divorce during the recording. It was tough leading up to marrying Sapphire, delivering the lines, and they started crying because the opposite was happening in their life. And then they got direction to be more emotional even though they were crying. They said their voice was dead inside even though they were quite emotional. They're shy in the booth. Lo felt sweaty and weird doing the acting in front of other people, feeling awkward, and this is the first time they had to be a voice actor. This was THE WORST playing multiple characters during the baseball episode.
Michaela was so impressed with Lo having to be "like 800 characters."
Lo comments that doing 5 voices around other people as a neurodivergent person was so difficult.
A (Deedee): She loved receiving the demo recordings before having to sing a song. One of her favorite things was the singing. She wants the album of all Rebecca's demos. She remembers getting a script Monday to prepare and record on Wednesday. She heavily depended on the voice director and Rebecca. The really wordy scripts were difficult for Deedee with "ten-dollar words." The screaming was also really difficult. (She'd also do singing at the beginning, speaking in the middle, screaming at the end.)
A (Rebecca): Instead answering what scene was the hardest to write, they say there are so many. Because it was storyboard-driven, the script was in flux until it was animated, and they'd still be working with dialogue. With the potluck, when Lars doesn't show, Sadie has dialogue as she's walking down the street talking about Lars. They did a thousand drafts of it. With Sadie's story, there's a matryoshka of struggling with self-esteem while commenting on other people's self-esteem. There was a long path to get Steven to step into his mom's shoes. The biggest thing was tracking the ongoing storyline in a storyboard-driven show. Rose's speech was pored over as well. They wanted it to be layered and make more sense as you learn more about her. Does this line encapsulate everything you're going to learn about this character 60 episodes from now?
Q from CaughtMoonlight: If each of them could play any other Gem, who would it be?
A (Susan): Everyone wants to be Garnet, but could never!
A (Larissa): Ditto. 100%. Also, not a Gem, but she wants to be Lion.
A (Michaela): Peridot. All the way.
A (Tom): He says he can't do that and he's just a slob doing the voice of a slob. These things are all out of his reach.
A (Estelle): She'd go with turbocharged Peridot. She says the things that are in Garnet's brain. She'd get spicy with it.
A (Lo): Lo would choose Greg. They say he's not a slob. The world should be more relaxed and accessible.
Tom says he doesn't mean slob in a bad way. But he owns his slobbiness.
A (Deedee): Hard question! She loved voicing Pearl and all the Pearls. Everybody else, it would be so hard to voice. No comment.
A (Rebecca): Early on they decided to take a back seat and not cast themself. They loved being in the director role. They put a lot of themself into SO many characters. That let them have a presence in everyone. One thing they're really grateful for, but their former boarder Adam Muto on Adventure Time, they got to voice Marceline's mother. The composers aivi and surasshu asked them to sing "Love Like You" because it's really a reflection of so many characters that they got to write.
Q for All: They are asked to share their projects and socials.
A (Rebecca): Working on things they can't talk about yet. Last year they released an independent album. Years ago Estelle said Rebecca should tour. Susan said kind things. Lo texts songs back and forth. They would not have been able to make that album without that encouraging. Tom had them on the radio show. So humbling. Spiral Bound is a little EP and they're so grateful. They'd love to do more stuff like that.
A (Deedee): She loves the album. She is doing some recurring voices for Kiff on the Disney channel, and singing praise and worship at church.
A (Lo): They're playing Larry in StuGo who's shirtless and gender fluid on Disney. They want everyone to know sunsets are awesome. Catch them while you can to chase away depression.
A (Estelle): She has a new album coming out early next year, with two singles out now. The music is uplifting. And there's the Estelle Show (on Apple radio!). She's just living her best life.
A (Tom): The Best Show/podcast is still on every week. He started writing a new book--he wrote one a few years ago and thinks the one he's writing now will be done in maybe 11 years, so check it out in 2038. Just working on TV stuff and dealing with whatever happens.
A (Michaela): Exciting stuff we can't talk about. It's tangerine season! Trees going off! Been harvesting.
A (Larissa): Just got back from Japan. Trying to get back there. Video games are coming out but she can't talk about it. She is working on a startup called Ethovox, trying to protect voice actors int he age of AI. Larissa got so much fandom just from doing Bluebird for two minutes! She's so grateful for that.
A (Susan): She produces live concert content for Disney worldwide. She loves being behind the scenes and creating jobs for others and bringing joy. They've been in 18 countries! She wrote shows for the Hollywood Bowl.
Part Two comes out November 18, 2024! You can get signed prints at Streamily!

Interweaving Paths (pt.1)
O: The nocturnal symphony which oft carried over the planes of La Noscea unfolded gracefully, as the delicate, satin veil of the sky was glided over a by a canvas of ethereal hues. The celestial expanse was enveloped by a velvety embrace, as the twinkling stars adorned the twilight sky with their luminous presence.
In the far reaches of the landscape, a menacing presence of rainclouds casted a shadow on the horizon, their ominous darkness rivaling that of the night sky itself. The looming threat of impending rainfall was palpable, as the clouds gathered in a foreboding display of unpredictability.
Ondrea exuded an air of authority as she sat confidently astride Curach, a majestic black buck of a chocobo with a beak that gleamed as if it had just been honed to perfection. His piercing orange eyes scanned the surroundings with keen vigilance, mirroring the sharp focus of his skilled rider. Ondrea's gaze remained fixed towards the east, where the radiant glow of Limsa's Aetheryte pulsed in the distance.
“Smells like rain.” A deep, drawled out voice emerged from her side. Cormac, a prominent Hyur, had faithfully served House Cress since Ondrea's youth. Despite not being related by blood, he was considered a part of the family in many respects. Standing shoulder to shoulder with her brother and his closest companion, Argrin, Cormac had a slim physique and an aristocratic air, which sharply contrasted with Argrin's more rugged appearance. “We should act swiftly if we desire not to be caught in it.”
Cormac's words resonated with truth, as Ondrea found herself yearning to avoid the clutches of an impending tempest, especially considering their cargo. A disheveled figure, concealed beneath a tangled veil of oily shoulder length chestnut hair, lay sprawled belly down on the back of a Cress Guard chocobo. Strangely, it seemed that the mere mention of hastening their travel caused him to emit a feeble groan, as if Cormac's words had stirred a deep sense of discontent.
Ondrea deftly manipulated the supple leather strap of Curach's reins and exerted a firm pull to veer him to the left. The ground beneath his colossal talons surrendered effortlessly, leaving behind precise imprints as he gracefully advanced. "Indeed, we shall proceed swiftly and head towards the west," she declared as she extended out her arm and gestured with a razor-sharp claw towards a dense thicket in the distance. "The banks of the river ought to be located approximately a mile in that direction."
The bound man received only a fleeting glance, as if his presence was of little consequence. "Any further outburst from him will be swiftly dealt with in a manner that he would undoubtedly find most unpleasant." Such was delivered in promise.
Cormac found himself unable to suppress the faint smirk that graced his lips in response to Ondrea's addendums. This was not the initial encounter with Ondrea's unique approach to work that he had experienced. He seemed to be one of the rare few to stomach it.
With a graceful swing of his leg, Cormac mounted his Chocobo, and with a swift and practiced motion, he skillfully wrapped the reins around his wrist, ensuring a firm and secure grip. "Hold on, now." he advised with little avail as his other hand gripped tight to the man's tunic. With a dignified chuff, his Chocobo took after Ondrea's, leaving behind a trail of swirling dust that danced in the ether.
As the pair advanced, they found themselves embraced and shielded by the veil of darkness. Nevertheless, to guarantee their unity in the midst of the obscurity of the thick forest, Ondrea would summon a burst of mystical violet-tinged energy that trailed behind her with a faint, shivering glow.
A discerning observer might catch sight of a flickering purple light dancing among the trees in the forest. Whatever could be rushing through the wood in the dead of night? M: The night’s veil would shroud the movements of the black and majestic chocobo while it moved with the 'prisoner' away, the woman dressing in black and her soldiers would certainly be well camouflaged to the average eye. But tonight’s observant was not the average eye. Instead, it was a man whose body had the taint of the abyss: A Dark Knight’s source of abilities and strength. Despite not being an expert of the dark arts, his body was partially but permanently changed because of it. Eyes that could see in the dark as clear as if it was day, a glimpse of the moonlight was enough to ignite the whole world ablaze, metaphorically, albeit black and white, unable to see colors and shades. The wearer of those eyes: A Tall, 6,2 Highlander man with a hair mixed between a sangria red and gray locks that indicated he was no youngling, descending to his face, one would see verdant eyes, a long and rough nose, with two scars, one on his left eye, going from the cheekbone to the forehead, and the other on his lip, close to the right side of the mouth, both seemingly from blades. On his hips, he carried a sheathed longsword, with a simple scabbard holding the steel blade inside, and for armor, he wore chainmail on top of leather, with leathery boots, a combination of armor and clothing that gave him the look of a wandering knight, intentional or not, it provided with serviceable defenses while not impairing his movement. And on his back, a black cloak, tattered from worn, and dirtied with the sand of La Noscea. What was this man doing in here ? Didn’t matter, plans had changed, for he watched the suspicious caravan delve into the forest, the purple lightning pushing him towards the decision of investigate, so he started descending from the top of the hill he found himself with, and as his cloaked billowed against the hitting winds of La Noscea, he would power walk towards the direction they went: Deep into the woods. His pace was fast, and his footsteps would forfeit stealth as they crunched into the sand closer and closer, he was not faster than a chocobo, however, and he was counting that they would be ahead until he would be able to see them, should they stop somewhere in the woods. He had many thoughts as he sprinted, what was going on ? Was this a cult ? A gang ? Officers of the law ? What was going on ? Whatever it was, it didn’t smell right for the Highlander, quite literally, as his nose would catch an odd scent, perhaps it was the magic, the figure riding the chocobo, or one of her guards. And… whatever it was from, it would send a shiver through the man’s spine, making him almost pause, and his eyes widening. ‘What is this?’ He thought, and with a brief pause, realized what it was: Fear. The instinct all men have, and one he was not used to feeling. ‘Why?’ he whispered to himself, and no one spoke back, he frowned, being afraid irritated the man, and more than that, his curiosity was much wider than his desire for ‘safety’. But as he continued to walk down the path, his hand was resting on the hilt of his sword, the palm resting on top of the pommel, similar to how a knight holds its sword when posing, it brought him comfort, and a sense of security, to know that he had his weapon nearby, and at ready.
O: Undoubtedly, the powerful and robust strides of chocobos would unquestionably outpace the journey of any individual on foot. Nevertheless, Magnos would find himself surprised when the trail of purple strings of magic abruptly vanished with the approach of the the soothing sound of a babbling brook just ahead.
To the inquisitive and perpetually observant, he would immediately discern the figures of a triumvirate, with two individuals positioned on their mount while the third descended from her elevated position. From where he crouched, he could hear the crunch of stone beneath her boots.
As she gracefully made her way towards the meandering river, her lustrous ebony tresses cascaded like a luxurious veil of the deepest black, extending beyond the delicate curve of her lower back. The most captivating aspect of her countenance, however, resided within her eyes, which presented a captivating enigma. At first glance, they appeared to possess a resplendent golden hue, albeit subdued by the surrounding darkness, yet their allure remained undeniable. The infinitesimal dimensions of her pupil, resembling a minuscule puncture, was the more peculiar thing about her hues. It was as if she harbored power yet unlocked.
"This will do." Ondrea's voice carried a tone of finality, her gaze fixed on the flowing river as if it held the power to bring her plans to fruition. "Release him, but ensure his feet remain bound. I have no inclination for a chase," she commanded.
"You heard the lady." Cormac responded with a matter-of-fact tone that bespoke his dedication. As he dismounted from his chocobo, he deftly produced a hidden dagger and swiftly cut the ropes binding the man, allowing them to fall to the ground in a cascade of freedom. With an air of authority, Cormac implored the gentleman to rise from his hunched posture and as the man began to lose his balance, Cormac did little to assist and allowed for him to descend to the ground with a loud thud.
The scraggily man emitted another low groan, causing a pool of crimson liquid to slowly seep from the edge of his lips. Without any additional introduction, Ondrea swiftly pivoted on her heel and strode towards her captive. With a graceful crouch and a tightening of her leather-clad fingers, her gloved hand firmly grasped the back of his head, securing his hair within her firm hold, and jerked his face from the ground. The piercing gaze she directed towards him was intense, with narrowed eyes emanating a chilling glow of venomous green that seemed to ignite from the depths of her gaze.
Ondrea's hand descended and offered the man a tender touch with her leather-clad thumb as it glided across the apple of his cheek, then down to removing the traces of blood that adorned his mouth and chin. It was almost beautiful, the gesture, were the hand conducting it not attached to such a creature.
"I know it's you." The man choked out. "I can smell that foul magic on clinging to you---or is it you clinging to it?"
This caused Ondrea to chuckle a low, single note from the hearth of her throat.
"What use are powerful words when the tongue that they come from is as limp as its hosts backbone? Tell me, do you think you'll be saved?" To what exactly 'saved' was remained nebulous, though it was evident by the strict tone wrapping itself around her voice that she wasn't speaking on anything secular.
"By the flames, I will be purged and pure." The man uttered, his dry and flakey lips muttering the sentiment over and over again.
With a skeptical glance, Cormac fixed his gaze on Lady Cress, hoping that his expression would encourage her to conclude the matter swiftly. Unfortunately, Ondrea was not inclined to hasten proceedings unnecessarily. Instead, she forcefully pushed Cormac back onto the damp gravel near the bend of the river, emitting a disapproving click of her tongue accompanied by a sigh.
"Would you prefer to cut his tongue out, my lady?"
A pause followed, as if something peculiar lingered in the air. With a slow and methodical turn of her head, she peered out into the darkness. Searching. Watching. She raised a hand to silence Cormac's addendum, leaving but the muttered, repetative phrasing streaming from the man below them.
"--I feel something." She added, eyes scanning. "Someone?"
M: Having come to a stop following the trail of purple lightning, the man would turn to a different sense: his hearing, he heard faint noises coming from the river, as well as the gentle sound of the water sliding against the rocks bellow, and whisper-like voices coming to his ears, impossible to assert what was being said. So the man turned to follow the voices, and came to find the triumvirate close to the river. In there, the man witnessed the raven haired woman bring her hand to the man’s lips after roughly yanking at the back of their head, he watched as the so-called Cormac cut the ropes of the man and later suggested cutting down his tongue. He watched torture, or at least what he thought it was torture. He watched all of it from a bush, not making a sound, his gaze, verdant and piercing as a ray of sunlight through the night could not look away from the woman dressed in black. Every inch of his body begged him to go away… until he heard the restrained man speak about foul magics, then he knew why. Perhaps it was a sense developed by practicing the magic, perhaps it was a way that his intuition warned him that this woman could be far greater than he is on the arts of the occult, but he couldn’t just look the other way, they were going to kill a supposedly innocent man, and he would step in, his brain already looking for ways to make the innocent man less innocent in order to convince him to leave, failing to do so, of course. Before the man could have made the decision to intervene, that decision was made for him when he noticed the woman raising a hand, and watching as Cormac’s eyes scanned the surroundings after her warnings, if he could feel uneasy by her, then perhaps she could sense him. That did not come as a surprise for him, and even then, stealth was never part of the plan, he even thought to himself a phrase he often uses whenever he fails at such. ‘Subterfuge is the weapon of the coward anyway.’ And he stepped forward, coming out of the bushes, and making himself visible, first to those that could see in the dark, then to everyone else as the moonlight illuminated him. He walked with confident, calm steps towards the direction of the woman and its two bodyguards, unafraid, or at least, pretending to be. His sword was not drawn yet, but his hand remained on the hilt of the weapon, perhaps it was a gesture of peace, or perhaps he didn’t even think he’d need his weapon to retaliate if attacked. “Perhaps he might.” The man said, his red locks visible as the moon reflected bright sunlight into his surface, his voice was calm but deep, always carrying a menacing tone as he spoke, yet no anger came out of his lips. “Be saved, that is” He added, and pointed at the tied man with his eyes. Indicating he both had witnessed what happened before, and also to add a tone of sarcasm on his speech. He smirked at that, another sign of confidence, lessened by his own concerns. His eyes then moved from the two bodyguards to the woman. And he simply asked after a low sigh, one of tiredness. “Who are you people, and what are you doing to that man? And who is that man?” He expected not only would they not answer his questions, but also that they would ask questions of their own, questions the man was annoyed to answer. Or that they would draw their weapons and not ask anything, either outcome was not pleasing for the Highlander, thus the tired sigh, expecting inconveniences in the way. The way he stood, the way he spoke, the way he grinned briefly before, the way he held his sword, it resembles a classical knight of Ishgard, but with a twist. He lacks a shield on his free arm, he speaks with sarcasm and casualty when there is usually none, his smile is slightly crooked, and he has less life on his eyes. It was like watching the portrait of a Knight, painted without colors. His green eyes were locked into the woman’s, more than they were locked into the two bodyguards. Perhaps he knew she was actually the threat to him, or perhaps it was just that he had identified her as their leader. O:
Cormac and the second guard were the initial ones to shift their attention to the unfamiliar voice. The Cress guard quickly drew his katana, but Cormac stopped him with a single raise of his hand, indicating for him to remain at his position. The guard complied. With a slight tilt of her chin, Ondrea directed her gaze towards the man, her eyes shimmering like liquid gold in the dimly lit night that enveloped them. As the sound of an unfamiliar voice pierced through the surroundings, the man's eagerness to speak was evident as he hastily raised his head, panic etched on his face. However, before he could utter a single word, the katana was swiftly positioned against the side of his throat. Though it yielded to graze his skin, the threat remained palpable.
Her gaze lingered on him with an unabashed air, for it was not a mere fleeting glance, but a thorough assessment of his physical presence and demeanor. With a practiced eye, she took note of his height, build, and overall appearance, analyzing every detail, searching for hidden threats. After a moment, she took a step forward, casting an askance look at Cormac, as if to convey a sense of reassurance while subtly signaling the need for caution.
Ondrea's refined appearance was further accentuated by her elegant attire, which spoke of her elevated social standing. As she drew closer, Magnos couldn't help but notice the delicate bell trinket adorning her throat, a symbol associated with House Cress. Perhaps, if his memory served well, he'd have heard of such a symbol.
"Inquiring so extensively for a stranger is quite unusual. The majority of individuals with sound judgment would likely choose to leave in such a situation--but not you." The latter left her with a tone that signaled her own growing curiosity. "I am who presides over my ancestral line, alongside my Lord brother, Argrin Cress. You may address me as Lady Ondrea Cress." She kept her distance, though this did little to stop the man behind her from speaking aloud, almost pleadingly.
"They're going to kill me!" He shouted, though his proclamations were abruptly silenced when the back of the katana's pommel forcefully struck the side of his head. Collapsing to the ground, he let out a groan of pain. The Cress Guard, wearing a leather mask that concealed his nose and mouth, hissed at the man to be silent.
Unperturbed, Ondrea's gaze remained anchored to Magnos. Without hesitating, she confidently affirmed. "Indeed, that is the strategy. A gesture of kindness, as usually traitors to our name would meet far worse ends. Tell me, stranger, do you intend on witnessing his punishment or do you have further curiosities you wish to satiate?"
Cormac's response to the latter was immediate, as a single chuffed chuckle escaped his lips as he folded his arms across the breadth of his chest. Ondrea, however, remained placid and attentive to the man before her. M: The next sound was those of his footsteps, and the crunching of the chainmail armor that originated from the rings moving against each other. The redhead approached, with piercing green eyes that did not move away from Ondrea, until she finished speaking, then he briefly glanced towards the pleading man, and the two soldiers. When she introduced himself, he gave a low chuckle in response. Ah, nobility, things wouldn’t end well for him, he thought. “A pleasure, Lady Ondrea Cress.” He rolled her name out of his tongue, and despite the sarcasm, his decorum wasn’t lacking. “I am Magnos. No titles or surnames.” Yet his own demeanor betrayed him, white pearled teeth when he smiled, straight posture and there was a politeness in his tone, words were rarely abbreviated. One could easily pick up the Ishgardian Accent on his voice, he might not be nobility, but he surely was not a commoner. The name ‘Cress’ would ring a bell, something he’d read somewhere and never studied further, enough to recognize her words' truth, but not to know the depth of the problem he was in. He did not know any specifics of their family, other than being nobles. He shrugged in response when she addressed that individuals of sound judgment would have let it go, and not him, and he sighed. A tired, bored sigh almost. “Individuals with sound judgment, as you put it, are rats without strength to fight, only the cunning to hide and look after their own skin, and who can blame them ? Danger is… dangerous after all.” He implied that it was not a problem for him, despite his insights telling him to leave, he was already committed to finding out the story there. He squatted briefly to look at the pleading man as he shouted for his life, he gave a piercing glare to him, as if assessing if the man was telling the truth, or giving him crocodile tears in hopes of receiving empathy, he would know, sooner or later. His eyes returned to the woman as he picked himself up. He tilted his head sideways, and cleared his throat. “Oh, many more curiosities to satisfy. Call me a Concerned Citizen, what did this man do to warrant the punishment of death ? Is he an employee of yours that stole something he shouldn’t ? Or let me guess… did not address someone of status with the proper manners, hmmm?” Sarcasm dripped from his voice venomously, almost in a condescending like manner. His intention was to stir a response within Ondrea. Anger perhaps, or slight irritation, it was only when provoked that often people would reveal their true nature. He then looked at the old fellow about to meet his end. “Or perhaps he was an incompetent turd ? Perhaps he laid a hand on one of the other servants ?” Unlike Ondrea, which he addressed with sarcasm, his voice was not harsh and his eyes piercing with a glare, he too wanted to provoke a reaction on the man, maybe fear or despair, as that would also allow him to glimpse at his nature from within. Before the two would even answer, the Highlander squinted his eyes and glanced to his surroundings, it was clear that he was surveying the region, Ondrea would perhaps notice how the squint was not necessary, for he already saw clearly in the evening, and that the squint was to pretend not to. Something he did to fit on, or to deceive his foes into assuming the darkness would save them. Before he finally returned his gaze to the woman with raven hair and golden eyes. O:
The accent that rolled from his tongue struck to her ears like a familiar melody, and with it did it prompt her dark brow to loft with great inquisitiveness. "One would presume an act of trision reason enough for execution. Given your…" A pause followed, and before long her voice carried with addendum. "…stature, understands some of those limitations." Ondrea was no fool, and though he hadn't outright made a point of such an implication, she could very well distinguish that he was, to some degree, a creature of status.
As Magnos crouched down, the man lifted his gaze to meet his with a sense of desperation in his watery eyes. In that moment, he wisely chose to hold his tongue, fully aware of the imminent threat of being coerced by the glinting blade hovering nearby. Though, this did little to cease the wordless motioning of his mouth, as if silently pleading. When Magnos arose, Ondrea turned to meet his gaze once again.
The name "Magnos" felt unfamiliar as it rolled off her tongue. It seemed to rest uncomfortably upon it, yet her countenance betrayed such things. Nonetheless, she maintained an emotionless façade, as if the sudden appearance of this individual was not at all surprising to her. "The man who has piqued your curiosity is an individual who has taken solace in divulging information about our assets to an external entity. Given that our House is presently engrossed in the development of cutting-edge vessels for voyages to the Western regions, we deemed it appropriate to violate his contract as he so willingly violated his word."
Ondrea's gaze shifted downwards towards the pitiful man, a faint smirk playing at the edges of her lips. "He can attest to the fact that it was his own hand that inscribed his name at the base of that piece of vellum. He was well aware of the repercussions of his betrayal." These words caused the man to audibly choke, his expression a mixture of fear and regret.
"I did not intend to inform anyone, my Lady! I am committed to serving the Cress family with unwavering loyalty, just like my father and his father before me," the man exclaimed passionately. However, his words were abruptly cut short as Cormac, disregarding any formalities, swiftly approached him and forcefully yanked him up by the back of his hair.
"Enough out of you." Cormac's frustration was becoming increasingly apparent as he grew tired of Ondrea's slow progress. However, he wisely refrained from pressuring her to hurry. Instead, he maintained a firm grip on the man's hair, wrapping it tightly around his knuckles for a second time. Ondrea, consistently exemplifying her proficiency, diligently pursued her assignments with a tranquil and unhurried manner, unaffected by any external pressures or time constraints as they were effectively on her time.
"You may be a concerned citizen but I do find myself wrought with inquiry as to what exactly it is you intend to do? Do you intend to speak authority on a matter where you possess none?" The latter almost made her smile.
"Or will you concern yourself with observing instead, Magnos, the would be Justiciar?"
Cormac's focus shifted from his captive to Ondrea, who was met with a stern gaze that seemed to convey a message of pushing boundaries. As the closest companion to her brother since childhood, Cormac was familiar with Ondrea's behavior, yet he remained unsure about the stranger in their midst.
In spite of all circumstances, Ondrea appeared to be ready for any possible outcome. What she knew for certain was that blood would be shed this night.
Whose blood, however, remained nebulous.

Read below to see various insights and opinions, and lots of hilarious commentary from the cast about the experience of voicing characters on Steven Universe.
Everyone opened with intros. Elijah ("Not-So-Average Fangirl") is the mod.
Rebecca said they created and ran the show for 8 years.
Sarah Stiles says she played Spinel!
Deedee Magno Hall says she played Pearl.
AJ Michalka says she played Stevonnie.
Shelby Rabara says she played Peridot.
Grace Rolek says she played Connie.
Jennifer Paz says she played Lapis Lazuli, Malachite, and Bob.
Kimberly Brooks says she played Jasper.
Erica Luttrell says she played Sapphire and Padparadscha.
Elijah says the questions are largely taken from the audience.
Q (for Rebecca Sugar): If you could be a Gem that WASN'T in the show, what Gem would you be and what abilities would you have?
A (Rebecca): Says they put so many Gems in the show. They used to go to gemhut.com to pick new ones. There were so many Gems inserted that were an aspect of Rebecca. They like Titanium--you get to be all the colors! And they always liked writing for the Quartzes--the soldiers who had epiphanies to not fight and settle down. They think they'd be a Titanium Quartz.
Q (for Shelby Rabara from Greenie_507): How was voicing Peridot different from any other character she ever played?
A (Shelby): Peridot is her favorite, hands down. She had a lot of emotional range--it was interesting to start her off as stoic and militant and then go through the transformation of losing her limb enhancers and becoming cute. Playing Peridot was such a great opportunity to embody an awesome character who evolves, and says what she's thinking without worrying about repercussions. Such a huge arc for this character!
Q (for Jennifer Paz from BrookesNook087): Which parts of Lapis did she find easy to connect with and which, if any, did she find difficut when voicing her?
A (Jennifer): She's so happy to be here and reconnect. Lapis has range too--when you meet Lapis it's intense, and she came in with such back story--Jennifer wasn't sure if she was even a good guy or a bad guy. She related to her so many ways--she was going through her "second puberty" (aka perimenopause) so she represents rediscovering yourself after dealing with trauma--she didn't even realize until after watching it that this character was reentering the world. She was a new mom and trying for her next kid and immediately going through perimenopause--it all led to this brain fog that she didn't even realize how much story was packed into Lapis's character.
Q (for Kimberly Brooks from Marco_Syrup): What was her favorite moment/part of voice acting for Jasper?
A (Kimberly): There are a lot of favorite moments. The surprise where Rebecca was going with the character; at first Jasper was a straight-up bully, but then she got an arc. Kimberly loves working with everybody and loves being part of the show. When she mentions Steven Universe, that's the show she's worked on that gets the most response. For her, the favorite aspect is the impact the show had on young people--gender identity, things in the ether. She loved being part of a timely, cool movement that a lot of people were affected by. She felt special being a part of it. Jasper is just a fun character to voice and she had fun.
Q (for Grace Rolek from Sammie47): What was it like growing up with her character? Were there ever any similiarities betweeen her real life and Connie's?
A (Grace): Yes! She loves this question and she REALLY feels like she grew up with the character. She started working on the show at 15 and now she's 27. She was in high school, really figuring out who she was, and in a lot of ways the character growth of Connie did mirror hers. She wasn't a shy kid but she was a bookworm and was homeschooled. Connie's journey of finding herself, her voice, her confidence, mirrored her own. This was very special for Grace to see her become a badass sword-fighting character. It was amazing to have that outlet and this space to explore growing up in her acting. She can look back as a full-blown adult and see how it mirrored her journey. She did once try fencing at the Renaissance Faire but decided that's more Connie's thing.
Q (for Sarah Stiles from somestarlight22): What part of the movie was the most challenging to record?
A (Sarah): She couldn't go for more than 45 minutes because she'd lose her voice. It was also the most thrilling voice work by FAR that she's ever done. Emotionally it was one of the great gifts of her life. She jumped into the world that had already existed and she'd had no idea her character was so important to the movie when she first got the role. She thought it was such a beautiful world. Spinel is very close to home sometimes, unfortunately. Her niece has a Spinel costume.
Q (for AJ Michalka): If you could fuse with any character you've ever played or voiced, who would you pick and why?
A (AJ): Steven Universe was the first cartoon she'd ever worked on, and then not long after it was She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. She LOVES playing Stevonnie and Catra. Something about merging Stevonnie and Catra would be some badass complication would be amazing. There should be fanart. The name would be what? Stevonatra? Catronnie? Deedee thinks then that character would have to sing Cookie Cat.
Q (for Erica Luttrell from FluffyBee_93): Would you want Sapphire's future vision abilities? Why or why not?
A (Erica): No, no, nope. We don't know much about the mysteries of existence, and she doesn't even like to go to a psychic because the answers would worm their way into her psyche and she'd always think it would be bad. She would want to intervene. It's funny because Estelle was on the previous day and she very much DID want all the answers.
A (Rebecca): In the writers' room this was discussed a lot because they'd determined Sapphire's future vision was entirely passive and fixed on one future where she does not act. Ruby's so impulsive that she fractures potential futures. When they combine in Garnet, they see multiple futures, so these answers make sense to them. At the bachelorx party before Rebecca married Ian, they had a psychic, and their brother Steven said "this is bad."
Q (for Deedee Magno Hall from ennedept): "Volleyball" is one of the questioner's favorite episodes. How did Deedee like voicing four characters in one episode?
A (Deedee): She can't remember doing all four in one episode. (Elijah suggests there's a Fusion of four Pearls. Rebecca corrects saying the Fusion in that episode is Crystal Gem Pearl and Volleyball.) Deedee says it's difficult to do multiple Pearls--she'll need a previous recording played to voice match, and she prefers to do one character at a time all the way through. She considers it a good fun challenge. She relies on Rebecca.
A (Rebecca): They gave the direction that Blue Pearl is mousy and Yellow Pearl is more like an old-timey secretary.
A (Deedee): Deedee remembers being told that the sound to shoot for is more like Betty Boop or Marilyn Monroe. It was very helpful to have that direction when creating the voices.
Q (for all): Which scene had them the most emotional while voicing or writing it?
A (Rebecca): The song "Change Your Mind" was a personal song that wasn't supposed to be for the show. It was written at a difficult time when Rebecca was facing pushback on the show and trying to stand their ground. It was an emotional choice to include it in the show.
A (Sarah): Her audition for the movie involved singing "Drift Away." She remembers being on her bed in her apartment singing it into her phone and couldn't stop crying. Recording the song live was also really emotional. It's burned in her mind. In a good way.
A (Deedee): When she recorded "It's Over, Isn't It" because she was also doing Tommy the musical, and her voice was raw after doing that musical. She had to reschedule the recording to sing the song properly. When she did manage to go to the studio to record it, she was still doing the show, but she wasn't on during the week. She was so worried about the vocal performance that she wasn't as invested as much as she wanted to be. All the times she was able to sing that song again, it was far more emotional afterwards. She loved that it spoke to so many fans. There were so many other songs that she doesn't sing in the show that take her to an emotional place too. She loves "Love Like You." It's her all-time favorite. She loves the way Rebecca sang it.
[Pausing the question to ask Rebecca a question before they have to go]
Q (for Rebecca from DominoMuffin): What happened to Cactus Steven after running off?
A (Rebecca): The Crew talked about this. In a way, it foreshadows the end of Future, which is a character who's been through a lot and then has to go live their life and be free. Their goal was to call forward to the adventure Steven would be having. Cactus Steven is living life and figuring it out.
Anything to say from Rebecca before leaving?
A (Rebecca): They're so excited to see everyone, they miss everyone, and they're on TikTok @rebeccasugar. Just playing little covers of the songs and they have the EP Spiral Bound out. They can't thank the other participants enough for helping to encourage them to record personal music.
[Back to the "All" question about the most emotional recording moments.]
A (AJ): The introduction of Stevonnie in "Alone Together" and realizing they were a Fusion and an experience, and not really knowing what it would be like. That part really got her--she likes to tell people they're an experience now, that they're a moment in time. It made her tear up when she recorded it. And then recording "Here Comes a Thought" with Estelle was super special. The lyrics are deep and touched many people. She loved singing with Estelle after only really having duet experiences with her sister.
A (Shelby): Many emotional moments happened in the recording booth--crying and laughing, all of it. Her most emotional moment was in the "In Dreams" recording with Zach Callison. It felt a bit like a goodbye message to the Crew, too--that they want to be connected even if they have to leave and live far away. Zach is so talented and gave so much--they even held hands during the recording. She really felt like she was on the edge with Zach, that she could feel everything that happened. Such a cool moment as an artist. She feels fortunate to be connected to all the other actors through this beautiful piece of art.
A (Jennifer): She agrees with Shelby. Jennifer didn't feel like she got to record that much. She remembers being emotional during Lapis's opening scene of saying to the Crystal Gems, "You three knew I was in there and you didn't do anything." She remembers she was shaking when she recorded the scene. It was so heavy for a cartoon, and she hadn't known it would be like that since she hadn't really done too many cartoons. Rebecca told her she's playing someone who was trapped and she didn't know much else--she was alone in the booth and didn't know what was going on. Later when she saw the episode she was blown away. She also remembers an emotional recording when Lapis stands up to Jasper in "Alone at Sea." What she was tackling, with Lapis taking her agency, her power back, from being in this toxic situation--this is a lot for an eleven-minute piece of art. That in particular, she was emotional in the booth. It was a powerful message to those getting out of a horrible situation. She would meet fans from cons and they would share personal stories of getting out of their own horrible situations and reference that episode. Jennifer feels fortunate to have been part of a show that gives such great life lessons.
A (Erica): Erica can't find the episode name (it was "The Question"), but her emotional moment was when Ruby and Sapphire were separated and Ruby came back from being a cowboy. She knows how it is to be separated from a person who feels like a part of you. She connects easily with others and she hates when someone ends a connection.
A (Kimberly): She wishes she had a better memory. She has the same issue as Erica. She remembers also feeling like she's stepping into an existing world that she hadn't heard of when her character arrived. Her character was the abuser and the bully, and she didn't realize what the impact was. All of her scenes were emotional--with anger--but pain is always underneath it. She felt like EVERY scene she recorded was emotional--what is making Jasper so angry? what is missing from her life? Such a heavy character to represent. Once she had to record as a public service announcement about bullying and she thought it was so relevant.
A (Grace): Grace also tried to Google an episode name and it might have crashed her Wi-Fi. The episode was "Full Disclosure," where Steven is pushing Connie away. (Though she recognizes Connie also pushes Steven away elsewhere in the show.) She got choked up recording the episode--she knows the feeling of trying to be there for someone and they're pushing you away is familiar to her. At that age your friendships and relationships are so dramatic. There's also when Connie confronts her mom in "Nightmare Hospital" when she tells her mother she hadn't even noticed that her glasses don't have lenses. She kenw that feeling of growing up and not being a little girl anymore. She thought something similar to the others about how her concept of working on a cartoon was more like "We're going to go on adventures and fight bad guys!" and then before you know it you're crying in the recording booth and exploring your past.
Elijah the host says other messages from children's media (Rainbow Fish, The Giving Tree) taught people to give all of themselves away and encourage toxic relationships, but this show stood against that.
Q (for Shelby Rabara from Mylesjude2): In Little Homeschool, Peridot teaches gardening to students. What are her favorite plants to grow and why?
A (Shelby): Peridot loves growing pumpkins and she doesn't have to build anything for gourds to grow. She's a big bean fan and she likes to pick the pods off. How can there even be food scarcity? It's just logical!
Q (for Jennifer Paz from Kai): What element other than water would she like Lapis to manipulate and why?
A (Jennifer): She thinks she would love to be able to read minds. That's not really an element but wouldn't that be cool? She can tell sometimes when people aren't saying everything they mean and she'd like to be able to root it out. Maybe Lapis could be a therapist, taking what she learned evolving through trauma.
Q (for Kimberly Brooks from TheMaskedTaco): What does she think Jasper is doing now? Does she do anything in Little Homeworld?
A (Kimberly): She needs help with that answer. Did she learn any lessons? Did she move forward? Kimberly isn't sure. She needs some serious therapy. Let's just say she's getting some self help and is doing better, taking responsibility for her actions. That's what Kimberly wants to believe.
Elijah says they should take Jasper to a rage room and can break something every time she reveals something about herself. What if Lapis and Jasper went into business together to run a rage room? Maybe have a crying room? Include Peridot and make morps in the barn? Someone should draw that too. Deedee wants to know if someone can come to the rage room to clean and organize things too. Perhaps do laundry. It could be very therapeutic.
Q (for Grace Rolek from WhatIsJuan): What does she think Steven and Connie are up to now that the show is ended?
A (Grace): Connie's off to college and Steven visits. She remembers she went off to college at 18 and Zach visited her. It'd be similar adventures. And they'd probably get up to adventures as Stevonnie.
Q (for Sarah Stiles from Flowerz4Daises): What is Spinel up to since the movie?
A (Sarah): She's learned Cirque du Soleil tricks. Trapeze, skateboarding, hip-hop classes, cooking, baking; she's got endless energy and ideas, so she's doing a LOT of stuff. She'd have such chaotic colors and flavors! Maybe combine baking AND a circus! And hole up in the barn.
Q (for AJ Michalka from G70_Heart): What was the process like when voicing the conversations between Steven and Connie while they were Stevonnie?
A (AJ): It was tricky. There are things Grace does that AJ would pick up on, and then with Zach she'd think of the Steven laugh and mannerisms. Stevonnie is a whole person and she wanted to subtly reference aspects of how their components talked without it seeming like she's playing two people.
Q (for Erica Luttrell from Nachet): Was it fun playing two different kinds of Sapphire and was it hard to go from Sapphire to Padparadscha? (Everyone jokes about not being able to pronounce Padparadscha.)
A (Erica): It was not difficult at all because the two characters were in completely separate episodes. It was fun, especially since Padparadscha is SO different and cute. Sapphire is regal. She relates to the deep thinking Sapphire does and sometimes her wife doesn't want to listen to it.
Q (for Deedee Magno Hall from Bella): If Pearl could say one thing to Rose about how Steven turned out, what does she think she'd say?
A (Deedee): Rose would be so proud of him. That would be it. And he is loved.
Elijah's mom calls in from off camera to say they're all having too much fun. It's funny since they're just talking about moms. Erica says her nine-month-old just took a couple steps for the first time during the recording.
Q (for all from pulpypal953): Which Gem character's power would you want in real life?
A (Sarah): She would want to be big and strong. Like Jasper.
A (Deedee): As a mom, she would want the healing power.
A (AJ): She'd want to manipulate water like Lapis. She'd love to be able to save people from tsunamis.
A (Shelby): She wants future vision so she could prepare.
A (Jennifer): She remembers Steven healing Lapis with his spit. She wants to heal with spit.
A (Erica): She's giving it serious thought. She'd want to be strong like Jasper but also impervious, and she wants to be able to jump back a second or two in time to fix misses. She wants to shield those she loves and those who need it.
A (Kimberly): Invisibility. She's kind of a voyeur. Elijah thinks she could have Amethyst's shapeshifting power and become a small animal.
A (Grace): Shapeshifting. She'd love to be able to cause chaos.
Q (for all from HaoTamaLove): What animal does your character remind you of and why?
A (Sarah--Spinel): Maybe a little puppylike or bunnylike.
A (Deedee--Pearl): Bird. She adopted the loving term "Bird Mom." Maybe like a flamingo, but a flamingo beak isn't pointy. Kimberly thinks like a crane? A fusion of a flamingo and a crane. A cramingo! (Artists? A new prompt.)
A (AJ--Stevonnie): A Lion because of their mane. They're sturdy and reliable.
A (Shelby--Peridot): A squirrel. She'll do anything to get what she wants. (Artists??)
A (Jennifer--Lapis): Maybe Lapis's alter ego, Bob--Bob would be a regal cat. The cat would cause trouble. Lapis had dry one-liners.
A (Erica--Sapphire&Padparadscha): Padparadscha would be a "slemur." A sloth lemur. A hyper-aware but slow creature. Sapphire would be an antelope, but in the arctic.
A (Kimberly--Jasper): The African Bush Elephant, which is the strongest animal in the world. Then also maybe the Muskox.
A (Grace--Connie): A companion animal that's really smart, like an Australian Shepherd.
Q (for all): Share socials, other projects, and outros!
A (Sarah): She's on Instagram and she's in the first season of Hazbin Hotel, plus some hush-hush stuff.
A (Deedee): She's on Instagram and is voicing occasionally on Kiff. Thank you to Streamily.
A (AJ): She's on Instagram and is releasing a new album with her sister (Aly & AJ).
A (Shelby): She's on Instagram, and she just released a kids' book with her husband called Martee Dares to Dance. She directed her first short for a film festival and directing a music video. Also "mommin' so hard."
A (Jennifer): She is working on some secret projects. She did some voiceover on a game. She's developing a musical with her husband called Proud Marys. She's writing and producing things she can't talk about, but hopefully soon!
A (Erica): She's on Instagram and the bird site that shall remain nameless. She can't talk about her current projects. Things she's apeared on before will be involved.
A (Kimberly): She's on Instagram and can't talk about upcoming stuff and doesn't quite know the process for some of them. She's in a new thing: she is in Arcane as Sky. And she's done some work on The Simpsons and South Park.
A (Grace): She's on Instagram and worked on Clone Drone in the Hyperdome as Kata, and she plays bass in a band called Starling.
