(NYT Obit - Long Post) Minnie Bruce Pratt, Celebrated Poet of Lesbian Life, Dies at 76
Her collection “Crime Against Nature,” which recounts her losing custody of her children after she came out, made her a literary star — and a target of conservatives.
July 13, 2023
Minnie Bruce Pratt, a feminist poet and essayist whose collection “Crime Against Nature,” which mapped her despair, anger and resilience after losing custody of her children when she came out as a lesbian, earned one of poetry’s highest honors and made her a target of hard-right conservatives, died on July 2 near her home in Syracuse, N.Y. She was 76.
Her death, at a hospice facility for L.G.B.T.Q. people, was caused by glioblastoma, her son Benjamin Weaver said.
It was 1975 when Ms. Pratt walked into her first gay bar, the Other Side, in Fayetteville, N.C. Same-sex relationships were still considered a crime in that state — “a crime against nature,” as the statute was described — so patrons parked around the corner in hopes that their license plates wouldn’t be photographed by the police. They signed into the place under fake names, as it was run as a private club. (Ms. Pratt often used Susan B. Anthony as hers.)
No one was more shocked than she — a woman married almost 10 years and with two small sons — at the turn her life was taking, as she wrote in her memoir, “S/He” (1995). Like many women of her generation, Ms. Pratt was fired up by the consciousness-raising groups she joined. She campaigned for gender parity in university teaching positions where she was a doctoral student (learning to push back when male colleagues asked her to type their papers and groped her at academic conferences) and discovered that she loved women
“You don’t have a dog’s chance in court,” her lawyer warned her when she and her husband, a poet and an academic like herself, were divorcing. He took full custody of their sons and moved out of state. “How could that happen to someone with a Ph.D.?” a fellow teacher asked years later.
“Crime Against Nature” had been more than a decade in the making when it was published in 1990, making Ms. Pratt a literary star. The Academy of American Poets awarded her the Lamont Poetry Prize, one of the organization’s highest honors. Writing in The New York Times Book Review, the poet Carol Muske declared the book a “publishing event” — “startling in the beauty of its unadorned voice,” with each poem “a verbal emergency.”
One poem in the volume, “No Place,” begins with these lines:
One night before I left I sat halfway
down,
halfway up the stairs, as he reeled at the
bottom,
shouting Choose, choose. Man or woman,
her or him,
me or the children. There was no place
to be
simultaneous, or between. Above, the
boys slept
with nightlights as tiny consolations in
the dark,
like the flowers of starry campion, edge of
the water.
Her poetry and activism came out of the Women in Print movement, in which feminist and lesbian poets began hand-printing and binding their work, often in chapbooks: short volumes that resemble zines. It was a vibrant community that gathered at lesbian and feminist bookstores and meeting places, like the basements of Unitarian churches.
Ms. Pratt was constantly on the road, touring the South, giving readings and visiting her children as their father permitted as part of an evolving arrangement that allowed them to be with her during summer vacations and other school breaks.
The movement was an extraordinary time, said Julie Enszer, the editor and publisher of Sinister Wisdom, a nearly half-century-old lesbian literary journal. By 1985, she said, there were about 110 feminist bookstores in the country. Ms. Pratt joined Feminary, a feminist journal and collective, and with a colleague who was her girlfriend she founded the Night Heron Press.
There, she published her first book of poetry, “The Sound of One Fork,” in 1981 — a collection of sensuous pieces that evoke her childhood in Alabama. Her sons, then teenagers on their summer break, helped her put copies of the book together, as she wrote in an essay for the Poetry Foundation. Making them, she said, was her favorite memory.
Minnie Bruce Pratt was born on Sept. 12, 1946, in Selma, Ala. Her father, William L. Pratt Jr., worked in the lumber industry. Virginia Earl (Brown) Pratt, her mother, was a social worker and a teacher who once told her that she was disgusted by her daughter’s lesbianism but who later became an ally.
Minnie Bruce was an English major at the University of Alabama when she married Marvin Weaver in 1966. She earned her bachelor’s degree in 1968 and was also a Fulbright scholar. When her husband took the children after their divorce, she was at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill working on her Ph.D. in English, which she earned in 1979.
In addition to her son Benjamin, she is survived by her other son, Ransom, and five grandchildren.
Ms. Pratt was the recipient of many awards and grants. A 1990 fellowship given by the National Endowment for the Arts to her and two other lesbian poets — the Native American writer Chrystos and Audre Lorde — drew criticism from Jesse Helms, the ultraconservative Republican senator from North Carolina, who campaigned to have their grants rescinded. He said that because the three were lesbian writers, their work was obscene and not suitable for federal funding. The N.E.A. disagreed.
In 1991, the three women won another grant, from the Fund for Free Expression, for being “targets of right-wing forces.”
Until her retirement in 2015, Ms. Pratt was a professor in the writing program and the gender studies department at Syracuse University, where she helped develop its L.G.B.T. studies program. She was the author of eight books of poetry, and her work has been collected in many journals. Her most recent book, “Magnified” (2021), is a collection of love poems to her spouse, the queer author and activist Leslie Feinberg, who died of complications of Lyme disease in 2014 at 65.
Like Feinberg — whose 1993 novel, “Stone Butch Blues,” was lauded for its evocation of gender complexity and considered a touchstone of queer literature — Ms. Pratt wrote eloquently about the “in-between” space, as she called it, that she and Feinberg (who mostly shunned gender honorifics) inhabited as a butch and femme couple.
In “S/he,” which is both an erotic memoir and an investigation into the myriad, shifting expressions of gender, Ms. Pratt writes of a Thanksgiving dinner the couple attended at her son Benjamin and his girlfriend’s house while they were in graduate school. Ms. Pratt was intrigued when no one claimed the seat at the head of the table or stepped up to carve the turkey. Her son clearly hung back. Ms. Pratt ducked out to the bathroom, and when she returned, her spouse was seated next to the empty chair at the head, with the turkey platter in front of them and a carving knife in one hand.
“I’ve never done this before in my life,” Feinberg said, slicing. Mr. Weaver said approvingly, “It took a lot of courage to grasp that knife.” And Ms. Pratt took her place at the head of the table.

it wasn't your car...
summary : his car isn't yours by wendy. that's the summary. here, go listen to it.
youtube
pairing: l.sm x reader genre: exes to lovers warnings: chan slander (im sorry), mentions of making out(?), mention of drinking/drunk people, crying *i think that's about it but if i missed any pls let me know* word count: 800+
that's all lee seokmin was supposed to be. a summer fling.
but instead, the last few days of your vacation were possibly the worst days of your whole life. days that were supposed to spent lounging with him in the pool were spent fighting about your relationship.
it started when he admitted he was in love with you. you weren't ready for something serious then and you said the same to him to which he said he would wait for you. you frankly thought it was ridiculous that he had fallen for you in the span of a month. no one can love someone within a month of knowing them. or can they?
which brings you to now, standing in front of the open door of the passenger seat of your date's black maserati.
the same car you had spent a month driving around and making out in.
the same car that had pulled up to your vacation house every friday at 8pm on the dot to take you on a date.
the same car in which you're about to go on a blind date in now, just to forget about him. because, contrary to your beliefs, it is possible to fall in love with someone within a month. like how you had fallen for seokmin.
you're shaken out of your trance by your date's voice,
"y/n-ssi, are you getting in?"
by the time you look at him, he's standing near the driver's door, waiting for you to get in,
"we'll be late for our reservation if we don't leave right now so..."
you look at him one last time before getting in and willing yourself to forget about butterfly kisses in late afternoons and the enigma that is lee seokmin.
you get through the dinner with little effort. you date, whose name you learn is lee chan, cannot stop talking for the life of him. you're glad for it though, because it means you can zone out and daydream about what could have been with seokmin. eventually, the dinner ends. he pays like the gentleman he is and offers to drive back since it's quite late.
you check the time. 1am. you say yes to the offer despite not wanting to but trying to get a cab would be worse that listening to someone talk about how good of a dancer they are for the umpteenth time in the past hour.
you get home around an hour later and are shell-shocked at the sight in front of you.
lee seokmin, sitting (well, sleeping) on your front porch, with a huge bouquet of carnations and violets in his hand and a letter in the other.
you turn to chan. he looks at you concerned and offers to walk you in, mistaking seokmin for a drunk person who just got the wrong house.
you tell him that it won't be a problem and manage to get him out of your hair before he tries asking about a second date.
you walk up to him and shake him awake. he blinks a few times before turning to look at you. it's almost magnetic, how he reaches out to cup your cheek in the palm of his hand. he pulls back before he actually touches you, though, scared you might run away again.
he stands up and clears his throat before he starts talking, "i know you don't want anything to do with me but i-"
you cut him off before he can finish, "that's not true, minnie..."
minnie. a nickname you got accustomed to in the course of your relationship. a nickname you had tried so hard to forget over the course of the past few days. a nickname that came to you as easily as breathing.
he blinks at you, a little confused. "what do you mean?"
you have to look away from him before you speak, in fear that you may start crying if you had to maintain eye contact with him,
"i mean, i do want something with you. with us."
seokmin breaks first. sobbing his heart out as he stands up to engulf you in a hug. you've hug him back with silent tears streaming down your face.
he pulls away after a few minutes, eyes rimmed red and looks at you. like, really looks at you. the way your features are aligned perfectly on you, the way you're quite literally tailor made for him, and him for you. he also notices you actively trying to avoid meeting his eyes
he simply chuckles at your behaviour, before talking,
"what am i going to do with you?"
you finally find the courage to look up at him,
"you, lee seokmin, are going to be my boyfriend"
seokmin swears he sees a halo on your head. you laugh at him because of course he would say something that corny with a straight face.
yeah, you'll be alright.
a/n: someone teach me how to end fics, please and thanks :) also, look whose free from the prison of writer's block heh

First Sleep Over with Stray Kids
Sleep Tight: Seungmin
Sugar Content: Sugary Sweet (Fluff), Spicy Sweet (Suggestive Smut), Sour Sweet (Mild Angst)
Allergy Warning: Long Distance Angst, Slight Smut (Dry Humping, Making Out), Hints to Panic Attacks, Hopeless Romantic Reader
Confectioner's Note: This is my first time writing suggestive/smut so hopefully it is okay! Feel free to leave feedback!
‘Delayed… canceled… canceled..to be announced….delayed’ and on and on. Searching for the flight information in front of you was like searching for a needle in a haystack. Finally, you found it! Flight 143 departing from Seoul, Korea was lit up in bright green, ‘on time’. You couldn’t help the little dance you did as excitement shocked your bones. The smile that graced your face would honestly make the saddest man feel hope. That fight held your life, your love, your everything. That flight was bringing you your Seungmin.
You met Kin Seungmin 2 years ago through a ‘college connections’ program. The program assigned you a pen pal for their sister school in Korea. At first, things were awkward. His English was broken and you hadn’t had to use Korean since sophomore year of high school, but you two made it work. Over time the little letters that filled your drawers began to be pinned to your desk. At first with tape, but that ripped your precious pages. Thumb tacks worked great but began to seem too harsh to stab his inked confessions. Heart-shaped magnets were the only way to go. That way when you woke up you could read about the time he threw the winning pitch. On sad days you were reminded of the first day he called you pretty. You knew it took a lot for him to send that one as pretty had been erased and rewritten so many times he drilled a hole in the paper. Your favorite part though? These letters tracked each point in which you fell madly, deeply in love. It showed how he became your ‘Sincerely Seungming’ to your ‘Love Minnie”.
Of course not all of your communication was Shakespearian. Emails became texts. Those texts carried videos, audio logs, and photos. You found your nights were filled with Facetime calls while he quickly ate between classes, his camera slowly becoming blurrier and blurrier the more ramen splashed onto it. You never said a thing however, you'd take a greasy silhouette over nothing at all.
‘Flight 143 is now unloading’ might just be your new favorite song. In an instant, you felt like runnings, crying, dancing, smiling, throwing up, and exploding at the same time. The airport felt so tiny that you couldn’t breathe yet so large he’d never make it to you. What if he had second thoughts? What if he didn’t like how you looked in person? What if you smelled bad? What if at the end of all of this, he wanted to end things? WHAT IF YOU SMELLED BAD?
Then peace and calm. The world froze around you as everyone slowly disappeared. A band began to play the symphony finale. Strawberries and chocolate scented the air. Your entire future played out like a movie in front of your eyes. Everything leads you to the answer to all your questions. There he was. Finally, he was yours.
“Y/N!!!!!!” is all you heard before he tackled you like a puppy missing his owner. Now firmly pinned to the ground you kissed him. You finally kissed him. He tasted like lavender and tea. Next, you noticed the intoxicating aroma of vanilla beans and mahogany being applied on too thick indicating the poor pup was just as nervous as you. Before you could get too lost in the kiss and give all the other passengers of flight 143 a free show, you parted. However, no one could miss the disgustingly smitten smiles of the two young lovers.
The rest of the day went by so fast. Lunch at some fast food chain he insisted you went to. A drive around town where you knew he didn’t pay attention because you felt his eyes both lovingly and lustfully tearing into you. Some shopping for things he either forgot or you insisted that he needed. Finally ending with a nice dinner reservation that costs more than you could reasonably afford. Though your feet hurt, were exhausted, and out of grocery money for the next week; Minnie was worth it.
Now however the nerves were back. Seungmin was taking a shower before bed as you changed into your pajamas. This was the first time you two would be spending the night together, you didn’t want to give him a reason for it to be your last. Do you wear something sexy? Maybe just comfortable? Be crazy and wear nothing at all? None of it seemed to be right. Until you saw the best nightgown you could have ever imagined. Seungmins airport tee was laying in the corner of your room forgotten by a pre-shower makeout session that nerves ended way too soon. He wouldn’t mind, right? You slipped it on and instantly never wanted to take it off.
“Please never take that off” agreed a sleep-tinted voice. Seungmin stood in the doorway to the bathroom with just a pair of gray sweatpants and nothing else. His hair was still damp from the hot shower that littered his skin with slight red marks. He looked as though your previous exploration of his body never ended.
Soon enough the two of you couldn’t keep your hands off each other. Passionate lips greedily stole lustful breaths. Small moans and groans became a melody and harmony. Somehow you ended up on top of him. Desperate to feel closer, to feel like you'd never lose him, to know he would always be there you began to grind down on him. In total ecstasy, he joined in too. It didn’t matter if he was still in his sweats, you needed to feel him now. He didn’t seem to mind either, suffocating in your (his) teeshirt just to get a bit more. You both were two horny adults dry humping like teenagers. There was no clear dynamic here. You set the pace but he held you in place. He claimed your neck but you left your mark on his chest. You two were making up for a lost time. Then it snapped. With a loud moan that you weren't sure whose body it left. You both finished.
You rolled to his side and saw a very red-faced man. Embarrassment filled his body as he tried to shy away from you, but you would never let him get away that easily.
“I'm sorry I swear I didn’t mean to—I just—--you just felt so good—and—” his words cut short with a kiss. Sweet and short, just what he needed. “We have all the time in the world, I don’t want to use it all up in one night Minnie” With that he smiled and pulled you in tight. A kiss was placed on top of your messy hair. The scent of muted vanilla beans and mahogany lulled you to sleep.

Personal Halloween Character Design Challenge - Slashertown
Time to reveal what I've been doing for Halloween/Spooktober!
Basically a personal character design challenge, inspired by my Tiger vs Slasher Villain post!
The gist is that it's set in a town that's basically a magnet for various kinds of horror villain archetypes, ESPECIALLY Slashers... hence its Name.
The Leads: The main protags of the challenge/setting.
Linda Rivera - A young woman of Spanish-American descent, known equally for both her stubborness and her empathy, and a strong, strong survival instinct. She's the been the "Final Girl" for most of her life, be it as a survivor of a literal cult war when she was a kid to Prom night when she was a teen. She cosplays and paints minis for a living, and is genuinely curious about what's REALLY going on in Slashertown.
Rodney "The Ripper" Rackham. Filling in for the unstoppable masked slasher villain ala Jason and Michael Myers, Rodney was once just a humble shop student with an interest in metallurgy and blacksmithing, until one day a trip to the woods went terribly wrong. For years he was the town's most famous slasher, targeting repairshops and others indiscriminately... nowadays he's more famous for another thing -killing other slashers.
Animal Companions: Filling in for the Animal guide/voice of wisdom, ala Coraline
Peggy Thirteen is Linda's cat. A crafty and wiley critter than seems to know just about every nook and cranny in town. Unusually intelligent for a cat, and remarkably obedient when Linda says to "stay put". There's more to her than meets the eye, as shown with her smug face.
Maharaja is the town celebrity Tiger, having been the one to save Linda from a slasher known as "Henry the Hatchet" a few years ago. Unbelievably strong, and much like Peggy, seems to be far more intelligent than what a big cat should be. Linda certainly suspects something.
Cannibal Archetypes: Self explanatory
Marlowe Magritte: Filling in for the Hannibal Lecter side of the cannibal villain, with a dash of Slowik from The Menu, he's the owner of the most famous restaurant in town. His food is to die for, as certain patrons disappeared in his business, just infrequent enough that no one suspects anything. Sure, while having liver with a nice chianti is nice, what he's REALLY after are memories and experiences. THAT to him, is what makes a true experience.
Merle "The Man Ogre" Mason: The Hills have Eyes meets Leatherface, Merle was a man exposed to chemicals during the end of World War 2 and became a mutant... THEN the magics of the town turned him into a cannibalistic monster, lurking about the hills just outside of town. Suprisingly articulate despite his looks!
Lethal Ladies: Because one can never go wrong with more female slasher villains!
Heather Berry lost her mind when she couldn't be Queen of High School Land, and thus took it out on some students, before mysteriously dissapearing after a fight with eternal Final Girl Linda. Now she's back, as Haley Babbit, successful business women with great PR... but beneath the facade, is still the same bloodthirsty Heather!
Liv Malone - SHE FOLLOWS. Slowly. Very slowly. Sure, she's completely unrelenting in her need to dispatch someone, but man oh-man is she SLOW. A simple shove is usually all that's needed to stop her from following you.
Killer Clowns: And this time, they're a family!
Marco the Clown and Minnie the Mime are a brother sister team that only wants to entertain you with their (occasionally lethal) shows! Please laugh at Marco's jokes and take Minnie's Art seriously, they get uspet if you don't!
Jethro the Jester is their grandfather, and leader of the group, simply known as The Troupe. One of the most powerful entities in town, his shows and acts seem to defy physics itself, and he'll always make sure that you leave the show a new person!
Terrible Toys: Three different flavors of violent toy!
Tricky the Ragdoll - Guardian of all children in town, much like Gamera, just one that's VERY open to lethal force when he sees a kid in trouble. Is actually quite helpful to them, no strings (ha!) attatched, offering blankets, food and subtly guiding kids to reunite with their parents if they ever get lost.
Mrs. Olivia - An overpossessive ghost of a woman from the 40s stuck in a porcelain doll. She'll do ANYTHING to protect her "poppets". ANYTHING. She is awoken whenever someone cleans up her toy body.
The Immolator - The most overtly Chucky-like of the bunch, with a dash of Small Soldiers. A psychotic, misanthropic inmate that winded up possessing the toy of a 90s action figure, he'll be more than happy to murder any meatbags in his sights... so long as he has batteries. The REAL danger is that, when dormant, he can imitate ANY voice possible, subtly suggesting you to really, REALLY give him those batteries!
Oceanic Killers: Because you gotta have a Jaws reference!
Big Bertha and Finn are a Great White Shark and Dolphin duo, that work together to un-alive silly and stupid hairless apes. Big Bertha LOVES the taste of humans, and would go out of her way to find 'em, but usually it's Finn that calls the shots. Any human that bothers him or makes fun of him, either gets a taste of his rostrum, or he sends Bertha to do the dirty work.
Primeval Horrors: Because everything's better with dinosaurs!
The Great One and his Flock: Combining both Jurassic Park and Hitchcock's the Birds, the Great One is a colossal, fifteen ton Tyrannosaurus rex, and is the oldest entity in town, and by far one of the most powerful. So powerful, that no slasher dares to enter his territory (which is the Slashertown Museum of Natural History). The birds of Slashertown are his eyes and ears, agents of his will, and those that mess with 'em don't tend to live to see the next sunrise. It's also a foolish thing to lay a hand on his skeleton, as the paleontologists who worship him like a god like to remind visitors. All those that have done so, either disappear (with the only remains being bloodied claw marks) or become skeletons stripped down to the bone.

Variety Interviews Ayo Davis, Meredith Roberts And Emily Hart On Disney Television Animation's 40th Anniversary And What To Expect On From The Past, Present And Future
40 years ago, Disney TVA was founded on the heels of challenging outcomes with features “The Fox and the Hound” and “The Black Cauldron.”
Initially, Disney TVA was restricted from using established Disney legacy characters, but nevertheless had huge successes with new shows like “The Wuzzles” and “Adventures of the Gummi Bears,” both of which became popular in syndication. As time went on, DTVA was able to use its limited rights to create shows like “DuckTales” and “TaleSpin,” which featured Disney characters. Today, the slate has evolved to include shows that travel across Disney’s streaming, linear and digital platforms, including Disney+, Disney Channel, Disney Junior and the Disney Parks
Over the 40 years of the studio has collaborated with Walt Disney Imagineering to bring beloved Disney Afternoon characters to the parks as well Mickey And Minnie's Runaway Railway and AquaMouse for the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure cruises from the Disney Cruise & Ships Line as well collaborating with Disney Yellow Two Shoes Team to redesing some heritage characters for the WDW Passholder Magnets.
Disney TVA characters also have gone to the realm of live action. In 2019 Disney Channel brought Kim Possible to the live action world as a Disney Channel Original Movie in 2019. In Spring 2022, Walt Disney Studios brought Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers to a new generation of fans trought a meta-driven live action/animated hybrid film which won an Primetime Emmy Award for Best Feature Film.
In April 2024, it was announced that Kiara from The Lion King II: Simba's Pride created at Disney TVA will make her live action debut on the motion capture/computer animated film "Mufasa The Lion King" with the character being voiced by Blue Ivy Carter. In Fall 2023, it was announced that Blumhouse Television and Atomic Monster where developing a live action reboot of Gargoyles for Disney+.
The future of the studio looks bright as the studio is slated to debut it's 100th show overall "StuGo" in 2025, as well new interations of beloved classics like The Proud Family, Phineas And Ferb, Sofia The First and Darkwing Duck trought revivals, reboots and spin-offs in the coming years with early talks of new interations of TaleSpin, Kim Possible and Recess since Early 2023.
“We have a wildly diverse development slate because we don’t have a house style,” says Meredith Roberts, executive vice president, television animation, Disney Branded Television and CEO of Disney Television Animation “Our styles are creator-driven, so that allows for real support of the artist or creator to fulfill his or her vision. Anything is possible, whether it's CGI. (“Monsters at Work”), hand-drawn 2D (“Big City Greens”,"Primos","Hailey's On It!"), rig-based 2D (“Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur”,"Kiff") and stop-motion (“Mickey Saves Christmas”,"Rhona Who Lives By The River".). Roberts continues, “We really try and solve all the problems and develop it. We look at the scripts and the story arcs. Every project has to have a strategy behind it that will complement the slate and separate it from other things. Each project has a distinct swim lane to attract an audience. And we’ve learned to meet the kids where they are, in terms of streaming and YouTube.”
Co-viewing, the viewership that happens when adults sit down to watch a DTVA show with the kids in their lives, is part of the studio’s secret sauce and long-term strategy. Many of the shows are written with jokes and plot points for both audiences so both groups will return.
“We double down on the kids and family space,” says Roberts. “We’re not just dipping a toe in the water. We’re diving in. I think we’ve seen a lot of churn with the competition, who just don’t have the patience to develop and are for this audience, which is a very specialized kid audience and co-view audience.” ("The Witchverse", "Rhona Who Lives By The River","InterCats","Fantasy Sports") Roberts reflects: “I think one of the things I’m most proud of is how stable Disney TVA has been for the last 40 years despite a lot of outside churn of the animation industry. Many of our crews feel that Disney is their forever home. I think the excitement they have to illustrate and create with this brand has been terrific because it’s harder to be funny and clean. And nowhere are we tearing down people to get that laugh. I think that’s the beauty of a Disney animated show.”
DTVA also sought to meet kids where they are by making their audience — which is made up of the most diverse generation in history — feel seen, with series such as “Elena of Avalor,” which featured Disney’s first Latina princess, and “The Proud Family,” franchise focused on the life of a teenage Black girl.
“We do have an amazing insights team that are constantly in the field, giving us general information about how kids are watching content, what they’re into,” Emily Hart (VP of Current and Development - Disney Junior) says. “Some of those things are evolving, as we know the ways kids consume content is changing. But there are some universal truths about kids, and it’s great to have that reinforced. Kids still like a lot of the same things that we like. So, there’s a combination that we’re always tracking with every new idea, and we do pilot testing. We get to sit down and talk about the content, and we invite our creators in so they can see the kids talking about it because they’re the audience and they’re the truest test of if the story is going to work.”
Ayo Davis, president of the Disney Branded Television and VP of Current and Development at Disney Television Animation says the division is a “driving force” for memorable kids and family entertainment.
“All of us at Disney Branded Television are so proud of the studio’s 40-year legacy as it continues to entertain future generations with shows like ‘Kiff,’ ‘Big City Greens’ and ‘Mickey Mouse Clubhouse 2.0" --- Davis says.
Those creators who come to DTVA often stay for a long time, partnering with the studio on a variety of different projects or expanding on a hit and reimagining it for the next generation of viewers. “The Proud Family” was a standout in 2001 on Disney Channel. Creator and executive producer Bruce W. Smith is now working on the Emmy-winning “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder,” which is based on the original series. The show follows Penny Proud as she navigates family life and her own childhood.
“Being at Disney TVA has allowed me to realize all my artistic dreams,” says Bruce W. Smith. “As a kid, you always have hopes, thoughts, dreams, ideas and characters that can help lay out those ideas in your head. Disney has allowed me to really tap into my creative instinct, at the end of the day, you have to learn how to trust yourself. Meredith Roberts has been a true shepherd for me in all of this, allowing me to stretch my wings. Because of her belief in me and my ideas, she’s really allowed me to blossom as an artist. All that happened at DTVA.”
“They really seem to be a place that welcomes your ideas,” Dan Povenmire says of Disney TVA. “They want to find people with real strong ideas of the stories they want to tell, and then they let them tell those stories for the most part. They seem to put storytelling and characters over anything. With [‘Phineas and Ferb’], we would write jokes for the kids and the adults in the room because we knew the adults would be there too. We were just careful not to do any double entendres.”

Noodle House
Cho Miyeon loved attention, especially when it came from girls she thought were pretty. Compliments were her lifeblood—declarations of her beauty, her charm, her magnetism. She drank it all in with the practiced grace of someone who had been adored her entire life. It wasn’t arrogance; it was simply her reality. But when Miyeon met you, her world tilted, just slightly.
It was during a drinking show where she and the rest of (G)I-DLE were promoting their latest comeback. You had tagged along with your roommate, Rex, who was giddy at the chance to meet the idols. Miyeon had expected you to be like everyone else—a quick glance her way, a shy smile, and then the inevitable: You’re so pretty, Miyeon. Instead, you barely looked at her.
When the conversation began, you focused on the others—laughing at Yuqi’s jokes, complimenting Soyeon’s undeniable talent, and admiring Minnie’s effortless charm. Miyeon sat there, poised and perfect, waiting for her turn. But it didn’t come. You glanced her way, sure, but it was fleeting, almost as if you were resisting something.
At first, it annoyed her. No, it infuriated her. Miyeon was used to being noticed, sought after. She wasn’t accustomed to working for attention, especially not from someone as intriguing as you. You weren’t disinterested—that much was clear from the way your gaze occasionally flickered to her, lingering for just a moment too long. But you kept your distance, and that stoked something new inside her: curiosity.
Eventually, Miyeon couldn’t take it anymore. While Rex kept the others distracted, Miyeon slipped over to you. She had perfected the art of appearing casual while being anything but.
“What’s your name?” she asked, her tone smooth, though her eyes betrayed her intensity.
“Oh. Yuna Y/LN,” you said. Your voice was calm, but your lack of hesitation caught her off guard. Unlike most people she spoke to, there was no nervous laughter, no attempt to impress. Just your name, plain and simple, as if you weren’t speaking to one of the most beautiful and talented idols in the industry.
Miyeon’s lips curled into a small smile, but her eyes narrowed slightly, studying you. There was something maddening about your demeanor—the way you didn’t rush to fill the silence, the way you didn’t fall over yourself to flatter her. It left her off-balance, a feeling she wasn’t familiar with and wasn’t entirely sure she liked.
“You didn’t talk to me earlier,” she said, tilting her head. Her tone was teasing, but there was a subtle edge to it, a vulnerability that surprised even her.
You shrugged. “I figured you hear the same things all the time. Didn’t want to be just another voice in the crowd.”
Her smile faltered for just a moment before it returned, softer this time. She didn’t know what to say. Miyeon had always been the pursued, the one people worked to impress. Now, she found herself on the other side, intrigued by the one person who wasn’t trying to win her over.
From that moment, the dynamic shifted. Miyeon, who had always been content to bask in adoration, found herself craving your attention. She started seeking you out during the rest of the show, throwing sly comments your way, brushing her hand against yours when she had the chance. The more she got to know you, the more her usual charm gave way to something more genuine.
By the end of the night, Miyeon wasn’t thinking about how pretty she looked or how many compliments she’d gotten. Instead, she was thinking about you—wondering if she’d done enough to make you look her way just a little longer.
You couldnt stop replaying the way Miyeon had looked at you, her smile softening in a way that felt… personal. It was strange. She was Cho Miyeon—a household name, an idol, the kind of person whose beauty seemed almost untouchable, like a perfectly polished gem under glass. And yet, for a fleeting moment, it felt like that glass had cracked.
When she first approached, you hadn’t been sure what to expect. You were already bracing yourself for the inevitable wave of intimidation that came with speaking to someone like her. But when she asked your name, her voice carrying that velvety charm, you’d been surprised at how easy it was to respond.
You didn’t think you’d said anything particularly clever. If anything, you’d worried that your honesty about not wanting to be just another admirer had come off as flippant. But something about the way her expression changed—her playful demeanor slipping into something softer—had stuck with you.
Her eyes, you realized. There had been something in her eyes when she looked at you, something layered, searching. You weren’t sure what she’d been looking for, but for once, it hadn’t felt like you were just another face in a crowd.
That realization should’ve filled you with confidence, but instead, it left you more unsteady than ever.
Because Miyeon—Cho Miyeon—was giving you attention. Real attention. The kind you’d only ever dreamed about in passing thoughts you tried to push away. And yet, it wasn’t overwhelming. It wasn’t some grand, dramatic moment where you suddenly felt swept off your feet. It was subtler, quieter—like the feeling of being pulled into the orbit of something much larger than yourself.
You weren’t sure how to feel about it. Part of you wanted to retreat, to keep things at a safe distance where her attention couldn’t unravel the walls you’d carefully built. But another part of you—a part you didn’t want to admit existed—wanted to lean in, to see how far her curiosity about you went, to see if the vulnerability in her smile meant anything more than you were imagining.
You glanced over at her again, watching as she rejoined the group with a laugh that seemed practiced but somehow brighter than before. Did she really mean it? This subtle, growing attention she was giving you? Or was it just a passing moment, a trick of her charm that she didn’t even realize she was wielding?
Your heart sank a little at the thought. No matter what it was, she was Miyeon, and you were… well, just you. Even if there was something real there, how could someone like her—someone so bright and magnetic—keep her gaze fixed on someone like you?
And yet, in the back of your mind, the way her voice had softened when she asked for your name whispered a quiet rebuttal to your doubt: Maybe she already is.
You sat on the couch in your shared apartment, staring at the untouched glass of water in front of you. Rex was sprawled out beside you, flipping through his phone with a grin that hadn’t faded since the drinking show ended.
“Okay,” Rex said, finally breaking the silence. “Are we gonna talk about the fact that Cho freaking Miyeon was all over you tonight, or are you just gonna sit there and keep pretending it didn’t happen?”
You groaned, sinking further into the cushions. “She wasn’t all over me, Rex.”
Rex snorted, locking his phone and tossing it onto the coffee table. “Sure she wasn’t. That’s why she made a beeline for you after you spent the entire first half of the night pretending she didn’t exist. That’s why she kept sneaking glances at you every five seconds and laughing at all your awkward jokes. Totally normal, platonic behavior.”
“It wasn’t like that.” You reached for the glass of water, turning it in your hands just to give yourself something to do. “She was probably just being polite.”
“Polite? Yuna, she practically radiates polite. This was different.” Rex leaned forward, fixing you with a pointed look. “I mean, did you see the way she looked at you? Like she was trying to figure out why you weren’t already falling at her feet. And then when you finally talked to her, it was like…” Rex threw his hands in the air, searching for the right words. “It was like she wasn’t used to someone not treating her like a goddess. And she liked it.”
You shook your head, trying to fight the heat rising in your cheeks. “I don’t know, Rex. She probably talks to a lot of people like that. I’m just some random girl she met during a promo show.”
Rex groaned dramatically, flopping back against the couch. “God, you’re hopeless. Did you even notice how she stayed close to you for the rest of the night? Or how she kept steering the conversation back to you, even when the others tried to shift it? That girl’s got it bad, Yuna.”
Your heart fluttered at the memory of Miyeon’s lingering presence, the way her gaze had softened every time it met yours. But just as quickly, doubt crept in. “She’s an idol, Rex. She probably does stuff like that all the time. It’s her job to make people feel special.”
“Sure, but there’s a difference between being charming and… whatever that was,” Rex countered, sitting up and gesturing emphatically. “She was trying to get your attention. Yours. And don’t even try to tell me you weren’t into it. You’ve been moping around all night because you can’t stop thinking about her.”
You opened your mouth to argue but snapped it shut again, realizing you didn’t have a solid defense. Instead, you sighed, rubbing a hand over your face. “Fine. Maybe I’ve been thinking about it. But what am I supposed to do with that? She’s… Miyeon. And I’m just me.”
Rex’s expression softened, and he nudged your arm gently. “Yuna, I get it. She’s a big deal, and it’s intimidating. But she’s also just a person. A person who, for whatever reason, decided she likes you. Maybe instead of overthinking it, you should just… see where it goes.”
You hesitated, the thought of putting yourself out there both thrilling and terrifying. “And if it doesn’t go anywhere?”
“Then you had a cool experience, and you move on,” Rex said with a shrug. “But if it does go somewhere? You might end up with something amazing. Either way, you’ve got nothing to lose.”
You stared at the water in your hands, the ghost of Miyeon’s smile flashing through your mind. Rex wasn’t wrong. Maybe it was time to stop overthinking and let yourself see where this unexpected attention from Miyeon might lead.
“Alright,” you said finally, setting the glass down with a decisive clink. “Maybe you’re right.”
Rex grinned, clapping you on the shoulder. “Damn right I am. Now, let’s figure out how to get you a second meeting with Miss Cho Miyeon.”
Two weeks later, you were sitting at the kitchen table scrolling aimlessly on your phone when Rex burst into the apartment, his energy a whirlwind as usual. He gently closed the door behind him and practically sprinted to where you sat, a mischievous grin plastered across his face.
“Yuna,” he said, dragging out your name with dramatic flair. “You are not going to believe what I just pulled off.”
You raised an eyebrow, already wary. “Rex, if this is another one of your schemes, I swear—”
“No!” He interrupted, holding up a hand. “This is legit. Like, I should win an award for this level of brilliance.”
You leaned back in your chair, crossing your arms. “Alright, I’ll bite. What is it?”
Rex slammed two tickets onto the table in front of you with a flourish. “Audience seats. For the live filming of Playful Nights.”
Your eyes widened as you looked down at the tickets, then back at Rex. “Wait… Playful Nights? The variety show?”
“Not just any episode,” Rex said, their grin widening. “The episode where Miyeon and Yuqi are guesting.”
Your heart skipped a beat, your thoughts immediately jumping to the memory of Miyeon’s soft smile and the way her gaze had lingered on you that night. “How… How did you even get these?”
Rex shrugged, clearly enjoying the dramatic reveal. “I know a guy who knows a guy. Let’s just say it involved cashing in some big favors, but my bestie roommate is worth it.”
You picked up the tickets, staring at them in disbelief. “I don’t even know what to say. Why would you go through all this trouble?”
Rex rolled his eyes. “Oh, come on, Yuna. It’s obvious. You’ve been moping around ever since the drinking show. Don’t think I haven’t noticed you rewatching clips from it like a lovesick kitten.”
“I was not—”
“Save it,” Rex cut you off, waving his hand dismissively. “Point is, you’ve got another chance to see Miyeon. And this time, you’re going to do something about it.”
Your stomach churned with a mix of excitement and nerves. “Do something? Like what? Walk up to her in the middle of a live filming and confess my undying love?”
Rex smirked. “First of all, maybe tone it down with the ‘undying love’ thing. Second, no. But this is your chance to remind her you exist. Who knows? Maybe she’ll recognize you, and you can go from there.”
You stared at the tickets, the reality of what Rex had just handed you sinking in. Another chance to see Miyeon. Another chance to find out if that fleeting connection you’d felt was real or just a figment of your imagination.
“I don’t know, Rex,” you said hesitantly. “What if she doesn’t remember me?”
Rex rolled his eyes again. “Yuna, trust me. She remembers you. Now, get your best outfit ready, because we’re going to this thing.”
You couldn’t help but smile at Rex’s unshakable confidence. Despite your nerves, a spark of hope flickered to life in your chest. Maybe this was the universe giving you another chance.
And this time, you were determined not to let it slip through your fingers.
The studio buzzed with excitement as the crew moved around, prepping for the next segment. The audience was energized, and you and Rex sat in the middle of the crowd, giving you a perfect view of the stage where Miyeon and Yuqi were seated. They were chatting animatedly with the host, their presence commanding attention.
Your eyes kept drifting toward Miyeon. She was every bit as radiant as you remembered, her sharp, elegant features softened by her warm smile. You didn’t even realize how intently you were watching her until Rex nudged you.
“Caught you staring,” he said with a smirk.
“I wasn’t staring,” you mumbled, trying to play it off, though the heat in your cheeks gave you away.
“Oh, you definitely were,” Rex teased. “And guess what? She’s staring right back.”
You frowned. “What are you talking about?”
He tilted his head toward the stage. You followed his gaze, and your breath hitched. Miyeon’s eyes were sweeping over the crowd, but when they landed on you, they lingered. A small, knowing smile curved her lips as she held your gaze for a beat longer than you expected.
“She sees you,” Rex whispered, clearly delighted by your panic. “I told you this was a great idea.”
The show broke for a brief intermission, the lights dimming slightly as people began to mill about. Rex stood abruptly, pulling you up with him.
“Alright, this is your moment,” he declared, already tugging you toward the stage.
“What are you doing?” you hissed, trying to resist.
“Getting you to talk to her!” he said, his tone far too confident for your liking. “Don’t worry—I’ll be your wingman.”
Before you could argue further, someone stepped directly into Rex’s path. Both of you turned, and you were startled to see Tsuki from Billlie standing there, her wide, bright eyes fixed on Rex.
“Wow,” Tsuki said, blinking up at him. “You’re really tall!”
Rex, clearly caught off guard, looked down at her. “Uh… thanks?” he managed, scratching the back of his neck.
Tsuki beamed, clearly delighted by his awkwardness. “Do you work out a lot? You look like you’d be good in, like, a survival show or something.”
You couldn’t help but snicker at the look of sheer bewilderment on Rex’s face as Tsuki leaned in slightly, her curiosity unabashed.
“I—uh, I don’t think so?” Rex said, his confidence faltering under her enthusiastic scrutiny.
Tsuki grabbed his arm, her grip surprisingly firm. “Come on, tell me! You’re not an idol, right? You could totally be one. I need to know more!”
Before Rex could protest, Tsuki began pulling him toward the corner of the room, her rapid-fire questions leaving him little room to escape. He shot you a helpless look over his shoulder, mouthing, Good luck!
You groaned inwardly, left standing alone. When you turned back toward the stage, Miyeon was no longer seated. Your heart skipped a beat when you saw her standing by the edge of the set, her arms crossed and a sly smile on her face as she looked directly at you.
She tilted her head, silently inviting you over.
Your legs moved almost of their own accord, carrying you closer to her. By the time you reached her, your nerves were frayed, your pulse pounding in your ears.
“You came,” Miyeon said, her voice warm but teasing.
“I—yeah,” you stammered, your voice coming out quieter than you intended.
Her smile widened. “I was hoping I’d see you again.”
“You were?”
“Of course,” she said, stepping closer. “Not many people have the nerve to ignore me the way you did.”
Your cheeks flushed. “I wasn’t ignoring you—”
“Sure you weren’t,” she interrupted, her tone playful. “But it’s okay. I like a challenge.”
You opened your mouth to respond, but no words came out. Miyeon chuckled softly, clearly enjoying your flustered state.
“Relax,” she said, her voice dropping to a soothing murmur. “I don’t bite… unless you want me to.”
Your face burned at her boldness, and she laughed, the sound rich and melodic.
“You’re cute when you’re nervous,” she said, her gaze softening slightly. “Maybe I’ll keep you around a little longer.”
Before you could even begin to process her words, the stage manager called for the talent to return, cutting the moment short. Miyeon gave you one last lingering look before turning back toward the stage.
“Don’t go anywhere,” she said over her shoulder, her voice carrying a promise.
You stood frozen in place as she walked away, your heart racing and your mind spinning. you barely register as you walk back to your chair. when you recover you see Rex trying to worm his way away from Tsuki
The intermission chaos swirled around Rex as he tried to keep his focus on you. He had come to help You first, not get dragged off by the charming whirlwind that was Tsuki. But here he was, standing awkwardly in a corner, Tsuki clutching his arm like they were old friends.
“So,” she said, her eyes sparkling with mischief, “what’s your deal? You’re tall, handsome, and totally clueless. Are you some kind of secret celebrity?”
“Uh, no,” Rex muttered, glancing over his shoulder toward where Yuna was supposed to be. “I’m just here to—”
“Save the day? Be someone’s knight in shining armor?” she teased, leaning in closer.
Rex flushed, taking a step back instinctively. “Not exactly. I’m just helping my friend—”
“Oh, you’re the helpful type,” Tsuki interrupted, her grin widening. “That’s cute. I like that.”
Rex tried to respond, but Tsuki’s energy was unrelenting. She tugged at his sleeve, forcing him to look at her as she tilted her head with a mock pout.
“Hey, don’t look so distracted. Am I boring you?” she asked, her tone feigning hurt but her eyes glittering with amusement.
“No, it’s not that,” Rex said quickly, trying to be polite. “It’s just—”
“Good,” Tsuki said, cutting him off again and looping her arm through his. “Because you’ve got my full attention, and I expect the same from you.”
Rex opened his mouth to protest, but the way Tsuki batted her eyelashes and smiled up at him left him flustered. She wasn’t just charming—she was good at this.
“You’ve got to loosen up,” she said, patting his arm. “You’re all stiff and serious. Come on, smile for me.”
Rex couldn’t help the awkward grin that tugged at his lips. Tsuki laughed, clearly pleased with herself.
“See? That’s better,” she said, standing on her tiptoes to get closer. “I knew you had it in you.”
By the time Rex realized what was happening, Tsuki had leaned in and kissed his cheek, the quick peck leaving a visible mark of her lipstick on his skin.
“There,” she said, stepping back to admire her handiwork. “Now you’re officially my favorite for the day.”
Rex blinked, completely at a loss for words. Tsuki gave him a playful wink and a little wave before skipping off toward the rest of her group.
When he finally made his way back to you, his expression was a mixture of sheepish and dazed. You raised an eyebrow, your eyes immediately catching the lipstick mark on his cheek.
“Uh… what happened to you?” you asked, fighting the urge to laugh.
“Tsuki,” Rex said simply, his tone somewhere between exasperated and resigned.
You burst out laughing. “Looks like she got you good.”
“Yeah, yeah,” he grumbled, rubbing the back of his neck. “Can we focus on your drama now? Please?”
You shook your head, still laughing. “Not with that mark on your face. Come here.”
Rex groaned but leaned down, letting you wipe away the lipstick. As you worked, you couldn’t help but tease, “Guess you’re not as immune to charms as you thought.”
“Don’t remind me,” he muttered, though the faintest smile tugged at his lips.
Tsuki caught notice of this and mouthed to you "Mine" before pointing at Rex. you smile and mouth back
"yours," Tsuki smiles having gotten what she wanted before turning back to the show and putting her idol face back on. for the rest of the program the two idols look at the two of you with varying levels of intrigue.
As the lights dimmed in the studio for the next segment, Tsuki leaned back in her chair, her sharp eyes flickering between the pair below her— you and Rex. A sly smile crept across her lips as she tapped a manicured nail against her chin.
You notice Tsuki’s plotting looks as her eyes subtly dart across the room from you to Miyeon, to Rex back to you then back to Miyeon again.
“Oh no that boy is not gonna know what hit him,” you laugh internally. “Rex despite all his “sagely” wisdom and exuberance was a bit dense, and Tsuki was about to eat him alive.” You thought smiling. “Good for him though”
Rex is too easy, Tsuki thought, suppressing a giggle. His flustered reaction to her flirting had been everything she’d hoped for. Tall, awkward guys like him? They never stood a chance against her charm. And the lipstick mark had been the cherry on top—her little claim staked for all to see.
But now came the tricky part. If she wanted Rex entirely wrapped around her finger, she’d need you distracted. You were sharp and perceptive, the type to steer Rex back on track if Tsuki rose suspicions . And Tsuki couldn’t have that.
Her gaze slid to Miyeon, who was sneaking glances at You between lines of banter with the other idols on stage. Perfect. Miyeon was already circling You like a hawk, her interest palpable.
This will be fun.
Tsuki leaned forward slightly, as if watching the show with rapt attention, but her mind was already racing with plans. All she had to do was nudge you closer to Miyeon, and the rest would fall into place. Miyeon’s relentless charm would keep Yuna busy, leaving Rex wide open for her to swoop in.
Step one, she thought, glancing over at Rex, who was still trying to subtly rub the lipstick mark off his cheek. Keep him blushing. She’d push just a little harder next time—a few sweet compliments, a touch of fake vulnerability, and maybe another “accidental” brush of her hand against his. Guys like Rex couldn’t resist playing protector, and she’d use that to reel him in.
Step two, she mused, her eyes darting back to you. Let Miyeon do the heavy lifting. Miyeon wouldn’t even realize she was helping Tsuki’s plan along. The idol’s ego wouldn’t allow her to pass up the chance to pursue someone like Yuna, especially someone who clearly wasn’t falling for her usual tricks right away.
Tsuki suppressed a smirk as she crossed her legs and leaned back with a satisfied sigh. The pieces were all there; now it was just a matter of setting them in motion.
The stage lights flared back to life, drawing Tsuki out of her thoughts. She adjusted her expression into one of bright, eager energy—her “idol face,” as she liked to call it. But beneath the smile, her mind was already plotting her next move.
By the end of the night, she thought, casting a quick glance at Rex, he’ll be mine.
The show wrapped up with a final cheer from the idols on stage. As the crowd applauded, Miyeon stole another glance at you, her pulse quickening. Tsuki, standing beside her, nudged her with an elbow.
“Are you seriously not going to talk to her?” Tsuki whispered, smirking.
Miyeon shot her a look. “I already talked to her.”
“Yeah, once,” Tsuki teased. “And she’s still out there looking all cute and mysterious. If you don’t move, someone else will. If I recall Yuqi did talk to her quite a bit before the show,”
Miyeon rolled her eyes but felt the heat rising to her cheeks. She couldn’t argue with Tsuki—her confidence usually came effortlessly, but something about you made her hesitate.
“Fine,” she muttered, brushing her hair over her shoulder and smoothing her skirt. “Wish me luck.”
“You don’t need luck,” Tsuki quipped. “You’re Cho Miyeon.”
With a deep breath, Miyeon stepped offstage, weaving her way through staff and equipment until she reached the audience area where you were waiting with Rex. Her heart raced, but she masked it with her signature dazzling smile.
“Yuna,” she greeted smoothly. “Before you leave, could I… get your number? You know, so we can stay in touch?”
You blinked in surprise but quickly recovered. “Oh, uh, yeah, sure.” She handed over her phone, and Miyeon typed her number in with practiced ease before handing it back with a grin. Rex walked behind Miyeon and Gave you a massive silent cheer before he was pulled away by something or someone behind him.
“Great. I’ll text you later,” Miyeon said, her voice laced with charm.
Later that evening, as the crowd dispersed, Miyeon found you lingering near the entrance. She approached with a casual wave, her heart skipping a beat when Yuna turned to meet her.
“Hey,” Miyeon said, her voice warm. “You didn’t run off yet?”
You chuckled. “Rex wanted to say bye to someone, so I’m waiting.”
Miyeon raised an eyebrow. “Oh? Should I be jealous?”
You laughed again, shaking her head. “Not unless you’re jealous of Tsuki.”
Miyeon grinned. “Good. Because I’d hate to have competition.” She let her words hang in the air, watching Your reaction. The slight flush on her cheeks was enough to encourage her.
“You’re relentless,” You muttered, though your smile betrayed your amusement.
“Only when it’s worth it,” Miyeon replied smoothly. She leaned in slightly, her voice dropping to a softer, more intimate tone. “What are you doing tonight?”
You hesitated. “Uh… no plans yet?”
“Perfect,” Miyeon said. “Why don’t you come over for dinner? My treat. I make a mean pasta.”
You blinked, caught off guard. “You cook?”
Miyeon laughed, tilting her head. “You’ll just have to come and find out.”
Meanwhile, on the other side of the studio, Rex was trying to disentangle himself from Tsuki, who had cornered him near the dressing rooms.
“You know,” Tsuki said, her voice light and teasing, “you’re a lot more fun than you look. I didn’t expect that.”
Rex scratched the back of his neck, his cheeks still red from earlier. “Uh, thanks? I think?”
Tsuki laughed, stepping closer. “You’re adorable when you’re flustered. Has anyone ever told you that?”
“Not exactly,” Rex mumbled, his eyes darting toward the exit. “I should probably—”
“Stay,” Tsuki interrupted, her voice suddenly softer. She tilted her head, her eyes sparkling. “You’ve been running around taking care of your friend all night. Let someone take care of you for a change.”
Rex hesitated, her words catching him off guard. Before he could respond, Tsuki leaned in and planted a quick kiss on his cheek.
“There,” she said, pulling back with a mischievous grin. “Now you’re officially under my spell.”
Rex blinked, touching his cheek where her lips had left another mark. “Uh… wow.”
“Wow is right,” Tsuki said with a wink. “So… what do you say? Dinner sometime?”
Rex’s initial instinct to refuse wavered under her steady gaze. He found himself nodding before he could stop himself. “Sure… dinner sounds good.”
“Perfect,” Tsuki said, slipping her number into his hand. “Call me.”
As she turned to leave, Rex stood there for a moment, still dazed. When he finally rejoined you, the lipstick mark on his cheek told the whole story. You told him about Miyeon invitation and laughed before you teased him back.
“You’re laughing at me really.” You sigh annoyed before pointing his cheek, “Oh you’re cooked. She’s got you now,” you tease. Rex looks at you annoyed then says,
“Oh I’m sorry little Mrs. Cho Miyeon wants you to have her babies,”
You look at Rex annoyed, “what no!” You exclaimed.
Rex rolled his eyes and said, “Yuna she looked like she was about 10 seconds away from taking behind stage and making you scream her name,”
“Excuse me Donatello,” you say to Rex using his full first name. Rex winces then says
“she invited you to dinner,” he counters. You open your mouth to say something before Rex adds, “look I’m not judging you. I’m happy you’re getting this especially after your last ex. So enjoy being pursued for a change,”
You smile laughing with your “adopted big brother”
After that Miyeon scoops you up in her genesis coupe before driving back to her place.
You walk into the apartment and smell the scent of cinnamon. Miyeon enters behind you as you tell her, “oh I love the way your place smells. I feel like I’m in a winter wonderland.
Miyeon smiles and is surprised when you kiss her.
“Ah wae,” she says as your hands explore her body. Surprised by this boldness She tries to get a word in edgewise but your tongue is halfway down her throat during each kiss. Unsure Miyeon lets it happen

Always been you part 2 | Kim Minnie x reader
Part 1
Warnings: swearing, drinking, mentions of cheating
Genre: ANGST, a tiny little bit of fluff at the end
Wordcount: ~ 3,322
A/N: guys go read some regular books as well
If time machine did exist, you were certainly the one who'd feel its’ magic. The kiss took you back in time. It turned your whole world upside down. All these years of heartbreak, constant pain, loneliness and naive expecting seemed to simply disappear. One quick snap, just like hypnosis.
Immediately, you dropped the broom, not caring about the noise it made when hitting the ground. Thankfully, no one seemed to hear. You smoothly wrapped your arms around Minnie’s small waist and pulled her in, incredibly close. She clung to you, her shaky hands gripped your shirt almost as if she was scared that you’ll disappear any second. Your sweet smell entered her nostrils - Minnie felt like she was dreaming and just had to make sure you really were there with her. The moment felt too good to be true. The way your lips moved against hers, your delicate fingers stroking her hair, the feeling of your breaths fanning her skin. It seemed, as if nothing changed at all. Those goosebumps that Minnie was always able of providing were still there. The little breaths and hums she’d release against your lips from time to time also were still present. You felt your heart clench at how adorable this woman, not a teenager anymore, behaved in front of you.
Eventually once both of you had to get some air, Minnie pulled away just a little bit while resting her forehead on yours. Panting, she admired your features up close with her finger gently tracing your jawline. Even if you wanted to say something, you truly became speechless under her soft gaze, proximity didn’t help either. So you just stood there unable to move, letting her do whatever she wished to. Her loving, shining eyes remained the same, only her cheekbones stood out a bit more because of all the weight she’d lost as an idol.
Suddenly, Minnie visibly saddened.
“What about Rosé?”
~
That was an excellent question. You had no idea, you realized, as you anxiously paced in circles at the airport in Bangkok. Only few more minutes were on your way of finding out though. It was only a matter of time until Rosé would make her way out of the plane and greet you.
As every other time, she had no problem with spotting you in the crowded room. It just felt so natural for her eyes to find yours. She used to often joke about how you were a literal magnet for her ever since the day you met.
Your heart broke the moment Rosé beamed at you from afar, before speeding in your direction with arms wide open. A lump formed in your throat, seeing Rosé in person after what you’d done - only now it made you truly realize how much you’d lost.
“What’s going on?” She asked stopping in front of you and noticing your watery eyes.
Since you wanted to get this off your chest, as soon as possible, you didn’t really hesitate.
“I kissed Minnie.” You looked down. “I guess I never stopped loving her.”
Silence.
“So I really came back for nothing, huh?” Rosé heavily sat down on the bench.
You glanced up to see her face. There was this emptiness in her eyes, as she was looking into the distance, trying to put pieces together. You expected her to get angry and yell, maybe even make a scene and slap you in the face - do anything.
Anything would be better than the sight you were met with. She looked broken on the inside.
“What do you mean for nothing? What about work?” You asked confused.
“I got a better job offer back in Australia. My aunt is retiring and leaving to the States. She offered me to manage her guesthouse.” Rosé was toying with her fingers. “I came back to ask you to do it with me.”
“Rosie-” You gasped with wide eyes.
This was so bad.
“But I guess the offer is no longer available.” In a sudden, fast move Rosé got a hold of her suitcase and walked passed you towards the exit door.
“Rosé, wait-” You felt this need to say something more, to apologize- you tried stopping her by grabbing her wrist, but she quickly brushed you off. “Leave me alone, Y/N.” With her cold voice she made you shiver. Rosé’s eyes were filled with agony, no matter how hard she tried to camouflage it with anger, you saw beneath it. You saw the hurt written all over her face. “I really can’t look at you right now.”
You had no choice but to accept her decision. It was you that fucked up after all.
~
Two hours later, you found yourself at a small bar located right next to the beach. Lisa, sitting in front of you, tried to come up with any advise for you given your situation.
“I do like Rosé, you know that. But she’s just... Not Minnie.” Lisa shook her head gently while toying with the straw of her drink. Her shoulder length hair was delicately blew by the sea breeze, her brows remained furrowed, as she tried to find the right words.
“Shit, I’m not even sure how to explain it, but just- Like in my head, whenever I think of you, I think of Minnie as well. And when I think of Minnie, you’re there too.” Lisa’s shining eyes met your eyes, she was determined to make you understand her point of view. “It’s almost like you two are glued together. Like you’re always holding hands in my mind, exchanging looks. Like a fucking magnet that just stays together no matter what, you know?.”
You made a grimace at the word ‘magnet’.
“Rosé said something about magnets too.” You mumbled before emptying your drink and gesticulating to the waiter for a refill.
Lisa sighed and you didn’t blame her. If you were her, you’d be sick of your friends too. Nevertheless, she grabbed her drink, quickly chugged it down, slightly wincing at its’ taste and joined you in waiting for another glass. You’d jump into flames for Lisa Manoban.
“So, Yuqi and you, huh?”
You began when young waiter set your drinks on the table. Lisa pressed lips together, at first refusing to look you in the eyes.
“Come on, you know everything about my fucked up situation! It’s your turn now, spill.”
She giggled, but nodded in agreement. It was only fair if she shared her thoughts as well.
“We didn’t do anything.” There was this coy glimpse in her eyes, she was smiling, but it looked like she was talking about high school crush or maybe even elementary crush. This innocent, but still satisfied look on her face suited her a lot. It made her look younger. “It was incredible to get to know her more and talk to her throughout the whole night. We had a great time together and there was this vibe like we knew each other already. We joked so much and immediately bonded. I mean Yuqi’s probably the coolest person I’ve ever met, no offence.”
“None taken.” You chuckled at how animatedly Lisa was speaking all of the sudden.
“But I didn’t have the courage to make a move.” She looked down for a second. “Can you believe it?! Me?! Lalisa Manoban Being shy?”
You both burst out laughing.
“That truly is unbelievable.” You took a sip. “But I think it only proves how much you like her. You were simply scared of messing up. That’s very cute of you.”
“Y/N, stop it.” She wasn’t amused.
“No, really. Next time you have to ask her out or at least get her number.” You continued with your nagging. Oh, how nice it felt to finally be the one giving advises.
“I don’t want to hear it.” Despite her voice, there was this goofy smile playing on her lips, as she glanced at the beach. Lisa took a deep breath before speaking again, this time she was far more serious. “Do you think there will be ‘next time’?”
You sighed.
“I’m afraid so.”
~
The weather that day in park was a huge opposite to what both Rosé and you were feeling. It was another extremely hot and sunny afternoon with no single cloud up in the sky which was the color of baby blue.
It took four long days after landing in Bangkok for Rosé to reply to your messages. You were begging her to give you a chance at explaining yourself, although a part of you didn’t know what else you could really say to her. It didn’t feel like any words could make her feel better. You just wanted to see her and how she was doing.
Rosé was the one who suggested getting iced coffee and taking a stroll to the park nearby. You truly appreciated her attempt at keeping things civilized.
She showed up wearing dark sunglasses which made everything way harder for you. You weren’t able to see her expressions properly which could cause even more unnecessary complications.
Despite it all, you were the one who ordered, while still remembering Rosé’s favorite position on the menu and paid. It was the least you could do, you kept repeating to yourself.
After you handed your ex-girlfriend her cup, both of you crossed the street and dived into the park. At first, it was silent and awkward. You hesitated, but you knew you had to be the one to start.
“I’m not sure how to do this properly. I just feel like no matter what I say I... I’ll end up hurting you more and trust me, when I say this, Roseanne Park, I would never ever hurt you intentiona-”
“But you did, Y/N.” She cut you off with a harsh, but tired voice. “And I will never believe you saying that you didn’t think kissing her wouldn’t hurt me.”
You looked down at your cup and reminded yourself that this new Rosé was the outcome of your own actions. Only you were the reason for her current behaviour to be so different from what you were so used to. She was no longer polite and incredibly kind, she especially didn’t have to pretend to be nice to you.
“What I really want to know, though is were you drunk?... Do you even regret this?” She asked in a small tone.
“I did drink, but I can’t say I was drunk. I was fully aware of what I was doing.” Total honesty was once again the very least you could do in that situation. Rosé deserved to know the whole ugly truth. Although, a big part of you wanted to ignore her second question. “I had no idea that after all this time... All these feelings- they would still be there. It seemed like nothing changed at all.”
There was a bit of silence again, Rosé had to really digest your words, before choosing to speak again. In the meantime you had a full blown fight going on in your head, already regretting what you’d said.
“What are your plans now? Are you going to go back to her?”
“Well, we uh... We haven’t really talked about it.” You gulped, feeling like an idiot. “So it’s hard to tell at the moment.”
Rosé gave a small nod, it was barely visible with how she kept her pace steady and her sunglasses staring ahead.
“Look, I know that I failed you.” You breathed out, the cup in your hands began slightly shaking. “I know that I broke your trust, I lied when I said that I could handle myself all alone at that party. Maybe if you didn’t go to Australia, it’d be different, but I wanted you to see your family too. Please, Rosé, I’ve never meant bad for you. You’re one of the loveliest, coolest people I’ve ever met. I’m deeply sorry.”
As you were nearing a bench underneath a big tree, hidden from the sunlight, Rosé sat down, wanting to rest from the intense sunshine.
“Maybe one day you’ll forgive me, I’m truly sorry.” You joined her in a heartbeat.
“I’m not blaming you.” All of the sudden, she exhaled tiredly and took off her sunglasses, letting you fully see her sunken, pale face. Her beautiful, brown eyes were puffy and bloodshot red like she’d been crying for these whole past few days. And you’d thought that it was because of the weather. “Only myself for leaving.”
“Rosie, stop please.” You felt tears blurring your vision and you wondered how on Earth she was able to have this conversation without crying. But then again, you thought, Rosé looked like she had already cried enough over you.
“I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately and realized that how you said Minnie was your first love... You are mine. No matter how much I loathe it.” She chuckled sadly.
Meanwhile you were at loss of words, just observing her flawless profile. You admired her for avoiding your eyes all this time.
“And who am I to stand between you two? I mean, I can’t just make you stop loving her and if I’m not the only person in your heart then I don’t think we can be together. Especially after that kiss, I don’t want to be the only one who’s blindly in love in this relationship. I deserve better and I know that.”
Your heart ached proudly hearing her words. At least Rosé knew her worth and was both strong and smart enough to accept life the way it was.
“It’s true, I’m the one who doesn’t deserve you. I had it all with you and still... did what I did.” You began drawing circles on your cup of coffee in order to ease some of the nerves. “But I know there is someone out there, who’ll understand you, make you laugh, treasure you, respect you and love you like you’re meant to.”
At that, Rosé turned to look at you. She almost looked like she didn’t believe you.
“And if they don’t do all of that, just contact me. I’ll kick their ass.” Maybe it was inappropriate, trying to joke right then and there but you wanted her to see that you’re still there for her, still having her back.
She let her eyes wander all around your face as if she was trying her best to memorize it. As if it was the last time she’d be able to see it. And that’s when her focus found your lips.
You knew what was coming when Rosé leaned in. With a heavy heart you shared your goodbye kiss.
~
Knock, knock.
You let out a big breath, while waiting at Minnie’s doorstep.
One more conversation had to be made.
“Y/N! Oh how nice it is to see you again. Come in!” You relaxed some when Minnie’s mom opened the door. “Nicha had a few appointments, but she should be back soon.”
You followed her to the kitchen, where at least four traditional Thai dishes were being cooked. Most of them were probably Minnie’s cravings.
“It’s alright, I can wait here with you, if you don’t mind.”
“Nonsense, honey. You’re always welcomed here, even when Nicha’s in Korea or God knows where else. This place right here is your home, as well. Never, forget that.”
The two of you had a heartwarming, long chat. You even managed to help a little with all the cooking Mrs. Yontararak had planned out. With the radio playing in the background, time flew by quickly and productively. Once every dish was ready, Minnie’s mom took you for a little tour around the house in order to show you what had changed through these past years. Mainly, it was either new furniture in the guest bedroom, refreshed walls colors, new paintings here and there. What amazed you the most was an old picture of Minnie, Lisa and you together hung up in one of the halls. The three of you were smiling brightly, unaware of what the future held. It was probably from primary school. You couldn’t believe that it was still there. So much has changed.
Suddenly, older woman’s phone rang. She excused herself and headed to the main bedroom. You used that occasion to sneak into Nicha’s old room, that was just on the other side of the picture wall you were staring at.
You gasped at how different it looked like. Almost every piece of furniture was brand new, the bed was bigger and what caught your attention the most was how messy it was. You remembered Minnie being a very clean and quite strict person. She was probably leaving in a hurry or writing something very intensively. Several paper balls all over the floor proved that theory. There were a few of crossed out pages on her desk too, but one of them was quite readable. You didn’t mean to be noisy, but just simply couldn’t help yourself.
‘Don't you go falling in love
Trust me she's not the one
She won't ever
Love you like I do
Hold you like I do, know you like I do
Don't you go fallin' in love
'Cause I'ma break that shit up
I won't let her
Love you like I do
Touch you like I do, nothing like I do
Nothing like I do’
With a frown you wandered through the text twice, it seemed like Minnie was busy with songwriting. You weren’t given a lot of time to think, as the door opened suddenly and you met those brown eyes again.
“Sorry I kept you waiting.” Minnie was wearing gym clothes and was still slightly out of breath. It didn’t stop her from taking my breath away either. “And sorry for all the mess.”
“What is this?” You addressed the potential lyrics.
Minnie sighed heavily, before organizing some of them.
“I was writing a song. Still am actually.” She was looking everywhere but you.
“This one sounds pretty personal.” You weren’t stupid and knew damn well it was about you. You just wanted to toy with her and make her confess few things.
“Okay, what do you want me to say, Y/N? That I wrote a song about you?” Minnie looked you straight in the eyes this time. As she was speaking she was taking small steps in your direction. “‘Blow your mind’, ‘Dahlia’, ‘For you’, ‘Paradise’. They’re all about you.”
Now, she was only inches away.
“Tell me where we’re going from here.” You felt flattered, both at her words and also because of how close the two of you were again. You just lived for these short moments of proximity with your Nicha. There was nothing that could stop your little smile from spreading coyly.
“I love you, Y/N. I think I always will.” Minnie said softly. “I tried moving on from you so many times. But what can I say, you’re my paradise.”
You cupped her cheeks, smiling like a dork because of how she was even capable of rhyming her love for you, you and pressed a shy kiss against her lips, it was a peck really. But Minnie wasn’t satisfied and craved more of you. With a whine she pulled at your neck and forced you to give her a real kiss. As always before, your lips molded together perfectly. Her tongue was determined to fight for dominance although your constant smile made it impossible for the two of you to continue.
“Stop with that.” Minnie scolded you between her own giggles. There was nothing better in this world than her laughing into the kiss. Your kiss.
“I can’t help it.” You shrugged, letting her lean most of her body weight on you, as she clung to you in a warm embrace. “I’m happy.”
“Me too.” Her fingers walked through your hair, as she hummed with her eyes plesantly lidded. “I’m finally happy here in Thailand.”

Baking Baddies PT 1
BTW I'm an artist - commissions are open for cartoon cake drawings hit me up😜
Today was Nikki’s, my niece, 4th birthday. My little bub was growing way too fast.
I woke up and went to go make me and Tom a coffee. He was still asleep but by the time he woke up the coffee wouldn’t be too hot. I laid back in bed next to Tom. Staring at the way his chest rose and fell. Looking so peaceful.
Finally, I grabbed my phone to ring my sister. After a bit of ringing she finally picked up and my little sweetheart was on the otherside of the phone enjoying her pancakes.
“Happy Birthday Bub!” I exclaimed.
She looked at me tilting her head and flashing me her cheeky grin.
“Good morning Arty!”
“and pancakes for breakfast, what a very lucky girl!”
“Yuh huh! Look! Strawberry!” She pointed her minnie mouse fork at me.
“Yummy!” I replied, trying not to wake up Tom next to me. Which failed.
“Are you going to say thank you for your birthday wishes?” Asked my sister.
“Tank yew!” She yelled, causing tom to shift besides me.
He rustled in the sheets then shuffled behind me, spooning me.
Tom’s head appeared over my shoulder as he looked into the camera.
“Happy Happy Birthday Nikki!” Tom chirped.
Nikki’s attention was fixated on the TV show playing in the background.
“Hey, Bum Bum!” Tom called, turning Nikki’s head to the phone as she cackled.
“I said Happy Birthday Gorgeous!”
“Tank yew Uncle Tommy”
“Whoa! You must be a big girl now, you’re using your fork!” He joked.
“Show me what you got Hun.” I said to her and she immediatey got up, her little footsteps echoing out the speaker.
Tom planted kisses on my cheek and neck while we waited for Nikki to come back. His hand on my lower back.
After sometime she finally came back wearing fairy wings and clomping in princess heels a pile of toys in her arms.
Me and Tom chuckled to ourselves.
“Look! You give them outfits!” Nikki said.
She showed us a metal tray with princesses on it and they had different magnetic clothes to stick on them.
“Woah! Thats so cool!”
“Yeah! I also got puzzles, teddies, colour books and a tea pot!"
I sat with a surprised expression. While Toms mouth was open.
“Wow! I think we gotta have a tea party Nik with you new tea set." Tom said.
“Show them your favourite toy Nik.” My sister whispered.
She ran off again and was back instantly with a pink pram and little baby doll in it.
“Look my baby!” She yelled, “Her name Minnie!”
“Nawe like Minnie Mouse.”
“Yeah, you know!”
We all lost her attention again as she sat shoving the dolls dummy into her mouth then back in to the dolls mouth.
My sister turned the phone to herself.
“So, since you guys are the best Arty and Uncle Tommy, could you guys please buy a cake mix and make it for Nik’s party?”
“Shit, yeah of course. What happened to the baker?”
“He got his dates wrong and hasn’t even started making the cake. But I’d appreciate it if you could just get one thing off my mind while I finish trying to set up for the party soon.”
“Yeah sounds good, what a dick though, how much was he charging?”
“Like $120”
“Yeah nah, I’d be getting my deposit back and telling him to kiss it.”
“Well, that’s the least of my problems at the moment Y/N.”
“Oh, your right. Me and Tom will get this cake ready then we’ll still head over as early as we can to see the princess and give her her presents.”
“Awesome, well I just need to put up the decorations and obviously do the balloons when you guys get here. Start cooking food…” She started mumbling to herself her checklist.
“SHIT!” She yelled.
“What’s up?”
“I HAVEN’T EVEN STARTED ON THE PARTY BAGS!”
“It’s fine! I’ll go get some lollies and toys to put in the bags and me and Y/N will make them too.” Tom stood in.
“Oh my gosh! Life savers, I have no clue where my head’s gone. I think I’m just loosing it because my baby isn’t a baby anymore. Well I’ll let you guys go, got heaps to do.”
She quickly hung up before we could speak and I put my phone back on charge. Turning to face Tom.
“Good morning babe.” I smiled, kissing him on his forehead, nose, lips then chin - a daily ritual.
“Good Morning Schönheit (beauty)” He hummed.
We laid in an embrace before I broke it and handed his coffee.
“Mmm, perfect.” He chimed.
I walked to the kitchen and began to get all the ingredients

only child and only girl of a very overbearing, overprotective and all the overs you can think of ⸻ couple. mina has so much built in issues that if she were to try to get a therapist i'm pretty sure they'd be like ... uh ... well ... you know ... and send her over to someone else<3
she is very smart ! has been since she was a little kid, her parents took the fact that she started to read earlier than other kids her ages and immediately put all the pressure they could upon her tiny little shoulders. she had to be the first on the honors list, had to get the best grades and be the #1 on every single thing they enrolled her in ( which was a lot ... she barely had any time to be a kid at all ) of course she didn't know any better, didn't realize how messed up it was so for a very long time she met their expectations, did as she was told.
as she grew up, little by little, the expectations started to become more and more unrealistic. her high school years are still to this day, almost a blur just from how stressed she constantly was. unfortunately, she had already set a precedent by being the very best she could be and any little slip up on her part meant ... disappointment from her parents, a disappointment she couldn't bear to see or even think about. so she bent over backwards, took on more than what she could handle but finally it was all over when she turned seventeen.
she got accepted into college far away from redcreek. it wasn't ivy league like her parents had expected of her but she did get a scholarship so they didn't complain too much about it. going to new york was the first real taste of freedom she'd gotten in her entire life and well... she liked it, maybe even too much. it didn't take long for it to get out of hand.
life outside of a small different was different. too different, she was no longer the best in class. compared to before, getting good grades and being good on the theory was no longer enough. she needed to understand it all, to be able to apply it and remember it; not just memorize for the tests. she'd put so much on herself on pleasing her parents and just being academically good that she didn't know what to do when something didn't go her way on the first try and so ... the burnout started, if she couldn't achieve perfection on her first try, isn't it better not to try at all?
college parties became more and more frequent, rather than studying she would spend her time nursing hangovers and then getting new ones all over again. rinse and repeat; a never ending cycle.
now her college days were all a blur for entirely different reasons. how did she manage to graduate? she has no real idea, maybe just pure luck, but she did it and she could finally rest ... except it wasn't any better. usually making connections would be the kind of thing that would open doors but the thing is, you have to make the right connections and it seems mina didn't have any of those.
she wasn't able to hold onto jobs for too long. she'd get bored easily and couldn't deal with having to climb up a hierarchy, it took too long and she was barely making ends meet. sure she could have asked her parents for help, they've never struggled before and they'd have gladly helped but for her ... that was like admitting defeat for some reason.
all the constant stress finally took a toll on her and she ended up in the hospital with stomach ulcers. now she was forced to take some time to rest and so, without being able to work properly she had to leave new york and come back to redcreek. something she was obviously not too happy about, though she did welcome the time to rest.
it's been six months since then, she's been helping her dad at tech creek so he can stay at home more often... you can say she's trying her best, but deep down she's a little bitter and very disappointed in herself. though there's not much she can really say or complain about when all that has happened has been the consequences of her own actions.
TLDR: she's a big girl failure that is currently reaping the consequences of her own self sabotaging ways<3
𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒.
she lived in redcreek for all seventeen initial years of her life and although she was with her head in stuck in a book more often than not i would LOVE for someone ( maybe even a small group of people ) that encouraged to live a little and enjoy her teenage years, they will no doubt be hated by mina's parents ( at least at that point in time ) but no one really cared; they helped her sneak out of the house and go to parties, they had their first drink together. from this little group i could see: childhood friends / ride or dies could add drama depending on whether or not they kept in contact !! even some romance as her first kiss, first real partner, her first time... they could all be the same person or different ones !! there's a bit of a disconnect on the person she was before and the person she is now so there could definitely be something juicy in trying to get to know each other once again !! for any muses that travelled around or where in new york at any point in time, it would also be fun for them to met back then. give me surface level friendships were they know each other's favorite drink but they have no idea what's their favorite color or the name if their mothers. friendships where they only went out to get black out drunk and nothing else. someone that tried to be the voice of reason but were promptly ignored by mina because she's self sabotaging for the plot. or literally anything at all i will take anything you guys wanna give me 🥹HERE is her most wanted tag in case u need inspiration !!

Iss. 11:
The Wildlands of The Void!
A new frontier has opened up all around Redhaven: The Voidfields. Advanced respiration technology now allows properly protected individuals to traverse the lilac mist that surrounds the countryside, free from the dangers of the poison gas.
These individuals, ordered under the estate of Lord Redhaven himself, seek to learn more about The Void. They strike out and return, day-by-day, with samples of soil, gas, and other, stranger things, often reporting movement in the distance and far overhead, as well as rumbling from deep below.
Most prized of all is the Void Crystal, a rare mineral that is charged with a type of energy foreign to humanity, but ripe for harnessing.
One team, however, made an altogether more unsettling discovery… ---
The sky overhead is grey and sunless, about as bright as it ever gets. The field is dry and dead where it meets the purple fog. The science outpost creaks gently with the faint breeze.
George Bailley speaks, his raspy timbre muffled by a gas mask, “No leaks, Minnie. Your suit looks good, now check mine.”
The laborer turns around and his shorter compatriot pats him down. She inspects the seals around his neck, wrists, waist, and ankles, then tugs on the seams, twisting the fabric to check for holes. She nods. “You look good.”
George turns and shouts, “We’re set, Doctor Campbell!”
A tall, thin figure emerges from the outpost laden with two heavy duffel bags. He is wearing a sealed suit that matches George and Minerva, though he has yet to don his mask. His blonde locks are short and well kept, and his face is blemished only by the bags ‘neath his eyes. He strides over, dour-faced, and hands a bag each to the laborers. “This is your first time in the voidfields, yes?”
George nods and Minerva answers, “Yeah, but this is pretty routine for you by now, right? With the laborers getting rotated every couple days and all, you must get out there a lot.”
Campbell twists up his face and shrugs. George and Minerva share a look.
The doctor puts the mask over his face, wrapping the rubber carefully over his hair and behind his neck, clipping the metal ring of its base to a matching ring on the neck. He rolls his head as far as the getup will allow, then turns suddenly back toward the outpost, striding back to where he came from.
As he disappears inside, George whispers, “That wasn’t very reassuring, eh? Why d’ya think they even need to rotate the assistants out so often?”
Minnie grimaces behind her mask. “Probably partial exposures or something. Newbies like us don’t really know what we’re doing out there. It can’t be that stressful though, it’s not like there’s anything in the voidfields besides fog and dirt.”
Campbell reappears, this time closing the outpost door as he exits. He is carrying a pump-action shotgun.
“You just had to say something, eh?” George jabs quietly.
The doctor motions for the two of them to follow as he passes and they are surrounded by mist just a moment later. Visibility drops to a few feet and sound is strangely muffled as well. Campbell leads silently, walking at a comfortable pace. The ground is hard, rough, and devoid of plant life. The sky is hidden completely by the mist, and even though it is mid day, it is only as bright as the evening out here.
Minerva clears her throat after a while. “So, Thomas—”
“Doctor Campbell, please,” their guide interrupts dryly.
Minnie sighs. “Doctor Campbell. What’s it we’re looking for out here exactly? You seem to know where you’re going.”
He glances to his wrist, where a compass is mounted. “Indeed. All headings are made relative to Redhaven, which, as the strongest source of magnetic interference, is where all compasses have pointed since The Transit. We’re looking for the regular round of samples, soil and air, but the previous team found a surface vein of void crystal, and I intend to collect some larger pieces for study.”
George’s eyes glaze over and he ganders around. The environment is monotonous, uniform and without interruption, until something dark flies silently overhead. He startles and whispers, “Uh, Doc? Is there anything living out here? The onboarding guys said that there wouldn’t be anything else out here.”
Campbell doesn’t turn around. “I find it extraordinarily unlikely that this place is entirely devoid of native life. Right after The Transit, for example, troubled citizens reported encountering strange organisms, and The Redhaven Estate confirmed the acquisition of some such samples. Just as well, this dimension is likely just as old as our home dimension, so to think that no life would have evolved here, separate from us, is nothing less than hubristic.” That final note is marked with disdain.
The doctor pauses, then stops in place. He turns around and stares at George. “Wait…why do you ask?”
Before George can answer, something plummets from the sky. It is barely visible through the fog, a dark thing of chitinous scales and leathery wings, silent as death. It strikes Doctor Campbell over the shoulder, the force of it sending them both to the ground as his weapon tumbles off into the fog.
Campbell wrestles with it, swearing and shouting and swinging his arms as it tries to take off with him between its talons. George jumps on top of it, grunting and dragging even as it threatens to carry him off as well. Minerva dives for the gun, tromping around in the mist with her back hunched, looking for a glint of metal until…”There!”
She picks up the shotgun and turns with it. “Get off, George! I don’t wanna put a hole in ya!”
The man complies, or is made to comply, as the beast flexes a wing and discards him.
Minerva pulls the trigger and a spray of black filth and chipped chitin tears into the air aloft birdshot. The monster release Campbell and shrieks, flapping and flailing into the atmosphere even as Minerva chases it with another shot.
Doctor Campbell gasps and fumbles to his feet, holding the shoulder of his rubber suit in a folded mass. George rises as well and rushes to the doctor’s side. “Thomas, my god! Are you alright?”
The researcher groans and, through gritted teeth, mutters, “Doctor Campbell…and no, I’m actually doing quite poorly.”
Minerva backs up to the group, shotgun still held aloft, head swiveling. “Your suit’s ripped up, doc. We gotta get out of here before too much of the gas gets in.”
“Agreed,” Campbell manages. “There should be tape in one of the bags. I want to patch myself for now at the very least.”
George rifles through his duffel, shakes his head, and then rifles through Minerva’s. “Got it!” He continues to talk as he works. “There, just keep it pinched ahead of where I’m working. Doctor, there’s blood! Are you gonna make it.”
Behind his mask, Campbell’s wincing contorts into a frustrated smile. “I don’t exactly have many options now, do I?”
George doesn’t grant that a response. “There, all done. Now, which way’s back?”
Campbell raises the compass on his wrist, but does not speak. He keeps his arm raised, but his other hand fidgets at his side. Finally, he turns the compass outwards.
The face of it is broken and the needle is fully detached.
The doctor cocks his head to the side and says, “Looks like we’ll have to guess.”
Minerva shakes her head. “Doc, don’t we have flares or something? I though you had special shells for the shotgun.”
Campbell laughs. “We were the only ones at the outpost today, and we’re now too far out for flares to be visible from the city. You can shoot them off all you like, Minerva, but I think we’re far and away more likely to attract more of the wildlife than we are to attract help.”
He doesn’t allow the others a moment of respite, even as their panic begins to germinate. He starts off in a random direction at once.
George and Minerva move to keep themselves up tight behind Thomas, sweeping the fog around them with their eyes, occasionally exchanging glances, but never words.
The air of abandon that saturates the voidfields has been replaced, has contorted. Every errant shadow is the tip of a beastly spine, every incline and hill, the back of some enormous creature. The sky overhead, muted by the soupy air, seems to teem and flow with hungering, predatory shades.
There is a change far away. Something glows, pulses with strange light. Doctor Campbell tenses and the aura about him shifts, no longer desperate, but something else.
Minerva and George tiptoe on the silence, their feet falling just in their guide’s shadow so as to avoid breaking the razor-thin sense of security he provides.
Campbell’s pace quickens and the fog grows thin and gives way.
There is a place in the middle of the voidfields where the fog cannot seem to penetrate, a hemisphere of fresh, clear air. Plants grow here, sinewy, muscley things with red flesh and purple veins. Their petals fold neatly over one another and thorns sprout from their stems. Their roots dig into hard stone, cracking it like ice, weaving through it like sutures.
At the center of the clear is a large glowing crystal. It is purple and riven with clusters of an opaque, copper-colored mineral. It pulses with a light that is cool and comforting, even beckoning. Something sings deep beneath the ground.
Thomas strides up to the stone immediately. “George, gather samples. Stone, air, and plants. Let me handle the crystal and don’t wander out of the clear area. Minerva, guard him.”
The laborers set about their work. George bottles material: plant stems, thorns, petals, chips of stone, and clear air. Minerva watches the area all around and the sky above. Campbell takes a chunk from the crystal at the center and the light pulses once, this time shifting slowly, like syrup. The song in the deep whines.
“Minnie,” George suddenly whispers, standing at attention.
“What’s the matter?” she whispers back, turning to face him. George doesn’t speak though, just points.
There, on the edge of the mist, there is a dark shape, a mass of insectoid legs, like bent steel sticking out of flesh. They are curled upwards like those of a dead spider, utterly unmoving. If the creature has eyes, it is not looking into the clearing.
Minerva takes an uneasy step toward it, shotgun barrel first. There is a dark purple fluid pooled beneath the creature. She prods it with her weapon and, when it doesn’t move, she whispers, “I think it’s actually dead, George, and look at that.”
She takes a hand off of the gun and points. George squints into the fog, leaning uncomfortably over her shoulder. His mouth falls agape at the sight of a broken walking stick. “No, it couldn’t be…not all the way out here…”
Minerva shakes her head. “It is. It has to be. That’s Eustace’s cane.”
Doctor Campbell whistles in the distance. “You two, pack it up. We’ve got what we came for, and while you were futzing around, I’ve fixed the compass as well. Don’t touch that body either. We aren’t taking samples of wildlife until we have a proper protocol. That thing may still be waiting in ambush, or it may explode with acid blood if disturbed.”
Minerva and George share a look, then hurry back over to the doctor. He cocks his head to the side. “You didn’t find anything else of note, did you?”
Minerva shakes her head, and George answers, “Nope, just more fog beneath a sunless sky.”
