Yandere Muichiro, Tanjiro and Giyuu forcing his beloved to eat, and she spits the food out or turns her head to the side refusing. Because she is angry after the kidnapping?
Ooooh! Okay! This can be very simple to write about! It’s been so long since I’ve done a proper request so let’s go, here it comes!
Yandere Muichiro
Tumblr media
“Darling… I am done with this foolish game, eat now”
Muichiro’s patience is running thin very fast as his fingertips press firmer on the pair of chopsticks he is holding out, the contents inbetween the eating utensils being a fresh hot salmon dumpling. It’s been fifteen minutes straight of this going on and on…
You, his beloved little angel, just refusing to eat the lunch he had spent almost two whole hours making, all for you and you’re rejecting him? What is he doing wrong? Why aren’t you happy? You’re with him now, you’re in the safety of his home and it’s so cozy, warm and perfect in this bedroom. What is there to dislike about this situation? Muichiro doesn’t get it
To you, you couldn’t despise Muichiro anymore than you already do. He took away your freedom, disorientated your senses, dragged you to this awful mansion and has tied you up to a futon by a pair of steely Nichirin metal chains, you cannot break free and he is forcing you to stay put all so obediently until he comes back. Everytime Muichiro walks into the room, you want to throw up
Muichiro, with furious sharp mint green eyes and a open scowl at your refusal as you stay silent and tilt your head away from him, uses his free hand to roughly grip your chin and pull your face back into his forward-facing direction to pry open your mouth by your cheeks with no-longer gentle calloused fingers to shove the dumpling into your mouth, forcing you to close your mouth with his strong, stern hold as it looks like he is ready to snap your neck if you disobey him…
How could such a sweet, timid little cutie like Muichiro, the young adult you had fallen for. End up being such a sick psychopath like this? And what did you do to deserve this type of treatment? Kidnapped, socially-isolated, heartbroken and now being forced to eat food you are thousand percent certain may just be laced with some type of drug…
Yandere Tanjiro
Tumblr media
Tanjiro sighs gently, on the verge of just losing himself but he will not give up at all, never, he cannot just risk being all flimsy whilst his beloved is incapable of caring for herself. His determination is made of titanium and his will is stronger than steel. The Kamado smiles warmly and sweetly, his pretty plum red eyes almost glowing as he, once again, picks out a chopstick-full of nice healthy seafood rice and places it in his mouth. Like with a picky stubborn child, he is demonstrating that the dinner he has brought for you on this fine cool night, is not dangerous and not laced with anything
The food, its quality and its safety is not the problem to you at all, the real problem is what Tanjiro has done to you… your ex-crush, the man you really liked. Ended up being a complete and utter dangerous monster to you, drugged you up with a simple cup of tea, dragged you back to his Estate and is now keeping your disappearance a secret, so nobody can try look for you as he has made sure everybody thinks you had passed away from a mission
Continuously spitting out the rice chopstick-fulls that Tanjiro gently but firmly shoves into your mouth, his tolerance over the ‘disrespect’ grows more and more unable to keep up. You just keep refusing him at every turn and he finds it so heartbreaking, he has done so much for you… so much. His love for you is so strong that he can’t stop thinking about you and it’s driving him mad, just as much as you refusing to eat the dinner is
Tanjiro can only hope the demonstrations he keeps doing for you will break through your stubborn barrier, he is only doing this for your health and your safety. Just eat the food already, you need some type of sustenances, you can’t starve yourself. That’ll make Tanjiro just lose his marbles to a uncontrollable state if he cannot make you digest anything beneficial and life-saving, especially when you clearly need it. Now, that you’re restrained to his futon and not going anywhere anytime soon
He is very ready to just begin begging as you close your mouth with a open hateful scowl directed at him, it makes his heart shatter further at how much you openly despise him, how angry and agitated you are. You’ve been this way for hours, for days and it’s getting tiresome. You just need to accept your new life, that’s Tanjiro’s thought process. He doesn’t like seeing you so upset and so irritate but he cannot risk you going out, where demons and men run around… it’s too dangerous
“Please, sweetheart… how about just half? Can you just have half?”
Yandere Giyuu
Tumblr media
Giyuu is growing frustrated. So frustrated as he gazes the shattered ceramic bowl and the discarded of piping hot udon, the savoury liquid pooling over the large broken pieces of the cutlery. How disappointing and cruel… Giyuu is trying his best to make you eat, his precious sweetheart, the one woman he needs more than anything ever. He has gone far beyond any other person would to make sure you will stay with him, he can’t stand the fact you’re not cooperating him
Giyuu’s cold dark sapphire blue eyes slide from the destroyed remnants of the dinner he cooked for you to you directly, tied up with firm tight ropes up against his futon and trying to wiggle out of the grasp of the irritating binds. Giyuu won’t let you leave at all so there is truly no point for you to try, you’re never walking out of the door without him linked to your side, you’re never talking to anybody without his permission. He won’t take any chances and he cannot lose you, like he has lost everybody else in his life
“My love… was there something off about the udon?”
You didn’t even answer Giyuu, not at all giving him a single side-glance at your pure unadulterated fury bubbling over uncontrollably that you just desire to lash out at your kidnapper. The sweet, shy, small-voiced man you had enjoyed speaking to in your time of independent freedom. The one who went from gentle but interested to a full-blown threat as he took you away from humanity, he took away your ability to walk around and now suspects you to love him back?!
Giyuu, on his end, is just trying his best to prove to you how much you mean to him, that he has gone to such a extreme drastic, the most extreme drastic possible, to show you his undivided passionate love. That he is devoting so much of his time to you and taking care of you, the most perfect little housewife. You don’t need to do anything anymore. Don’t you want a man to take care of you and ensure no demons ever touch you? That sounds great to Giyuu as a whole
Maybe not today, but Giyuu will make you love him as much as he loves you, he will make you willingly accept every longtime cooking gift he presents you, he will have you all his to the point you don’t even want to go out anymore. He must, he needs you and he knows he can’t live without you nor with himself if you’re still running around the dead of night where demons prowl, you’re safe here and that’s the greatest thing a Hashira like him can do for his lover

Just One Day (Chapter 1)
During times like this, Iroh glimpses what Zuko could have been if Lu Ten lived.
It’s easy, almost painfully so, for Iroh to see what he himself would have been.  He wouldn’t have had any reason to change, after all, and he had already been old by the time he’d breached the walls of Ba Sing Se.  But for Zuko?  That’s harder.
Zuko had been a child, still forming, still being formed, when Lu Ten died.  Zuko’s training would have taken a very different path, if he had been allowed to remain a mere cousin to the crown prince.
Looking at what could have been for Zuko is like looking into a kaleidoscope.  Even within the confines of the royal house, there are a thousand paths Zuko could have walked.  A diplomat, a priest, a soldier, a scholar, an artist, an advisor.  A spy.  An assassin.
It’s the way Zuko pours himself out of the ventilation shaft, utilizing a economy of motion that could be called graceful that does it.  The utter silence of his movements, the color of his clothes, the brightness in his eyes…  Yes.  Iroh sees what Zuko might have been.  What he might have been used for, in another world.  What even Iroh himself might have been encouraged.
But if Iroh would imagine that world, he might as well imagine any of the dozen others that have crossed his mind over the years.  That countless myriad of what-ifs set on him like a spirit plague.  If he imagines that world, he could instead picture kinder ones.  Ones where the war was over, where Zuko was happy.
It was immaterial.  What mattered was the here and now.  Here and now, Zuko is none of those things.  Zuko is an exile, a desperate one, chasing after a rapidly narrowing beam of hope that had more in common with the lure of an angler-shark than anything good.
“Uncle?” asks Zuko, voice quiet and rough.  Burnt.
“My apologies, Nephew,” says Iroh.  “You must forgive an old man his woolgathering.”
Zuko’s pinched expression says that no, he doesn’t have to do that and probably won’t.  “You have to focus if-- if we’re doing this.  You can’t be distracted when Zhao is looking over your shoulder.”  His tone is angry.  At least, that is how most people would interpret it.
“It’s alright, it’s alright, I’ve made sure we’re alone.  We’re as safe as we can be.  In the meantime, food!  And more importantly, tea.”
Zuko scrunches his face into an expression that is both delightfully teenage and undoubtedly painful.  His face is covered in bruises and small cuts.  “Uncle…”
“You may wrinkle your nose, Prince Zuko, but every person in the world has at least one virtue, and Admiral Zhao’s is excellent taste in tea.”  He smiles as he sits down and reaches for the pot.  “Although, I am sorry to say that his virtue is a very lonely one.”
Sadly, this does not get the laugh Iroh was hoping for.  Zuko’s scowl may, however, become slightly less pronounced.  He also, once Iroh sits down, falls on the food like a starving man.  He might very well be.  Iroh’s position on the ship and in Admiral Zhao’s retinue has the unfortunate requirement of being in Zhao’s presence, or that of his trusted subordinates, most of the day.  This means that he cannot help his nephew nearly as much as he would like.
So.  It is, in fact, very likely that this is Zuko’s first meal today.
Although, Zuko is quite capable of theft, when it serves his purposes and sense of honor.  Maybe he is just being a teenager.  Teenagers are hungry.
Iroh would ask, but he doubts he would receive an honest answer, either way.
Then, Zuko stops, mid-bite.  “Uncle,” he says around a dumpling, “have you eaten?”
Then again, Iroh is, perhaps, not a bastion of honesty himself.  “Of course!”  He pats his stomach.  “Have you ever known me to miss a free meal?”
Zuko squints at this, then looks back down at his food.  He doesn’t start eating again.
“Do you ever…” he starts, before pursing his lips together.
“Yes?” prompts Iroh, hopefully.
“Do you ever wish,” says Zuko, quickly, the words tumbling over each other, crowding to get out of his mouth, “that you were someone else?”  He freezes, then, jaw clenched tightly, as if he fears that he has spoken out of turn.
“No,” says Iroh, glad that, at least, this is a familiar fear.  “No.  Prince Zuko, I do not regret my decision to be with you.”
“That’s not what I mean,” says Zuko, clearly frustrated but keeping his voice at a near whisper.  “I mean…  Do you ever wish that you weren’t-- That you didn’t--  That you were a, I don’t know, a poet, or a priest, or a-- a normal person.  Somewhere.  Someone who didn’t… didn’t have to…”  He shrugged.
Iroh blinks.  Not a fear, then, perhaps.  Well, if Zuko wants to stop his hunt, to disappear from the eye of the Fire Nation and more importantly the Fire Lord, Iroh will do his best to make that happen, and with a glad heart.  Although, it would have been far more convenient if Zuko had his change of heart before he snuck onto this ship…
“I suppose all men do so at times, especially men of power.  Otherwise, why would there be so many stories of kings and lords in disguise?  Why would there be actors, or the masks of the Fire Festival?  I confess, even I have, hm, occasionally pretended to be someone who is not Prince Iroh of the Fire Nation, General and Dragon of the West.”  He paused.  “Do you wish for such a thing, Nephew?” best to not use his title and remind him of the responsibilities attached to it.
“I… I have, uncle.”  He looks up, alarm clear on his face.  “Not permanently!  Not forever!  Not-- Not even for very long!  But sometimes…”  He looks down again, a blush spreading across skin that is alternately pale, scarred, burned, bruised, and scraped.  “I wish,” he says, very quietly indeed, “I could be someone else, anyone else, just for a day.”
In that moment, Iroh can see all the things that Zuko wishes not to be, not to have.  He wishes not to hurt, not to be hurt, not to have this weight upon him, not to have this duty, not to be banished, not to be so far from home, not to be part of this war, not to have these memories, this history, not to be betrayed over and over again.
Although, that is probably not the way Zuko is thinking about it.
“But just for a day,” says Zuko.  He swallows.  “Just for a day.  I know my duty, Uncle.  I love our people.  It’s my honor to serve them.”
Ah.  Perhaps Zuko is not, quite, ready to run away with him to become nameless, faceless Earth Kingdom peasants, then.  Well, Iroh always knew this was going to be, how should he put it, a work in progress.  Or, no, that probably wasn’t the best way to put that.  He’d have to think on it.
Metaphors took a lot of work that the youth of today just didn’t appreciate.
Iroh put his hand on Zuko’s shoulder and squeezed it as tightly as he dared.  “I understand, Prince Zuko,” he said.  “But I hope that someday, the spirits will grant your wish.”
Zuko blinked hard, then went back to inhaling his meal.  A few minutes later, he was climbing - practically levitating - his way back up into the vents.
Iroh leaned back, sighing.  They really shouldn’t make those things as big as they did.
.
Zuko crawled to the bend in the ventilation shaft that he’d been sleeping in while Zhao sailed north.  It was near the showers, so while it was unpleasantly damp, it was warm and he could sometimes overhear the officers talking.
He curled up, tucking in his knees and pillowing his head on the small bag of necessities he’d been able to put together.  He should sleep.  He needed to sleep.
But to sleep, he’d have to forget all the stupid things he had said to his uncle.  What had he been thinking?  Ugh.  He’d hit something, if that wouldn’t give away his position and therefore his presence.
Well.  It might not, at that.  Ships were noisy.  Still.
Still.
Still, he hadn’t been lying.  But he knew better than to just say things like that.  That’s what got him exiled in the first place.
He forcefully closed his eyes.  He would sleep.  He had to be rested, to break into the north pole and capture the Avatar.
.
The sun slowly rose over the arctic horizon, waking all of the fleet’s firebenders, even if for only a moment, depending on their shift.  In his stateroom, Admiral Zhao woke slowly, and called for his aides to brief him.  Decks below, General Iroh, already awake, ran through a set of katas he had not yet taught his nephew.  In a ventilation duct near the officer’s showers, a teenage firebender gasped, coming awake all at once.  But this teenager wasn’t Prince Zuko.  Prince Zuko wasn’t on the ship.  Prince Zuko wasn’t anywhere.
In the ventilation duct, Kuzon of Hing Wa sat up.
.
(The moral of the story is ‘don’t make wishes when you’re in a spirit tale.’)

The Hunter and the Culinarian: Darth Maul x Reader
A/N: don't mind the millions of metaphors i put in the end i didn't know how to finish it ok
Warnings: swearings, violence, blasters,
Word count: <1600
Tumblr media
Unbeknownst to many Sith and many more Jedi, you're in possession of a rather remarkable little secret. You, and only you, have seen the sight that graces your eyes nearly every morning, heard the gleeful notes of a soft baritone voice as he works, tasted the wonders of his phenomenal creation. Your husband, Maul Oppress himself, weilder of the cruel, crimson double bladed lightsaber, master of thousands of deadly, efficient fighting techniques, user of the mysterious, miraculous Force, is quite the chef.
To put it shortly, he makes great Gi dumpling soup. And Tiingilar. His Mustafarian Lava Bun is absolutely delectable, not to mention the Franikhad he cooks up, or that Corellian Ryshcate he made for you after you got some disease from a snotty Mon Calamari child... Oh, and the Quor'sav Fried Steak he made for you after that one hunt, or the one time where he made his own, slightly healthier version of the Raxus Slider from Dex's Diner.
There's nothing you love more than coming back from a long, arduous hunt to the smell of hot, just-out-of-the-oven food, apart from maybe the hug that follows - usually involving you dropping the bounty on the floor, chucking your rifle in the opposite direction (once you check the safety's on, of course) and hurling yourself at his back, trusting his connection with the Force to inform him that a heavily armoured Mandalorian is flying in a collision course for his ass. The expression on his face is always priceless, the soft melody dying an untimely death in the back of his throat as he drops the wooden spoon in his hand and catches you with the strength and precision of  a Sith lord. You can almost the strong grip of his powerful arms now, can almost hear the deep chuckle he'll let out as you kick your feet, toes brushing the ground from where he's lifted you into his embrace.
Your feet drag in the desert dust. How you wish for the insufferable, hot headed Zabrak now, with an unconscious bounty that feels like it's made of the solid beskar slung over your shoulder, the sun beating down on you as you trudge towards the ship - a mere speck on the horizon. Yes, you may tease him all the time that you're the bread winner, but sometimes you wish you were the one at home, pottering around in a 'please do nothing to the cook' apron and humming contentedly to yourself. You reckon you might even be able to avoid burning the whole ship down, although the food you produce may or may not be inedible. It's safe to say that the roles you both carry are fitting - you can't prepare food for your life, and if you put Maul on a hunt he'll either lose patience or find some trace of Kenobi that he can pursue eternally until you remind him that you'll all starve if he leaves you alone to do the cooking.
With every step, the arches of your feet radiate pain all the way up your legs, and the tiny silver glimmer on the horizon seems to slip further and further away, taking with it your promise of food and a pretty, tattooed, Zabrak man wife. The bounty over your shoulder groans, and you don't even think twice, you just sling the Iktochi onto the ground, watching passively until he stumbles, tripping over a rock, and you shoot out a hand to grab his arm in a vice like grip, steadying him. Digging the barrel of your blaster into his back, you urge him forward.
'Don't even fucking thinkabout trying anything,' you huff grumpily.
Without the heavy, insistent weight of the bounty on your back, you relax a little, picking up the pace and forgetting your plans to just leave it all to hell and kill him, even if it meant you had to take half the pay. You roll your eyes when the Iktochi trips again, this time dropping to his knees on the ground. It doesn't escape your notice that he scoops a rock off the ground, probably a last resort weapon, but you ignore it for now - he'll be in carbonite soon, and if he tries anything, he'll have to deal with a grumpy, half starved Mandalorian and a Sith Lord with anger issues.
You're almost to the ship, happily trundling along, so close that the sun reflects off the hull and right into your eyes, when the bounty makes a break for it. It's rather pitiful, if you're being honest. All he does is launch himself in the opposite direction, the rock that had been previously hiding in his sleeve reappearing and rebounding with a clear, laughably bell like noise off your helmet. Maybe he'd been banking on the fact that you'd rather have him alive so wouldn't shoot immediately, but you're smarter than that - the blaster setting flicks to stun in a millisecond, and in the next, he's falling, eating the dust.
Staring at the unconscious body before you, you wrinkle your nose. Are you really going to drag that dead weight all the way up to the ramp, prop it up while you prepare the carbonite chamber, then struggle to not get your arm frozen in the process? It takes less time for you to decide than it took for you to stun the quarry. No. No way.
'Maul!' You yell, banging on the side of the ship. 'I'm home!'
A few seconds later, the ramp slowly lowers, and he pokes his head out, a smile brightening his face. He's a sight for sore eyes, shirtless and clad in nothing but some boxers and the iconic 'please do nothing to the cook' apron that he bought for himself after you... attacked him while he was cooking too many times: a common morning occurrence, which he claims is a bother, but secretly, or not so secretly, enjoys. His tattoos form constellations up his arms and across his muscle sheathed chest, and you watch, starry eyed for a few seconds before you shake some sense into yourself. Maker, you don't even have the strength to run into his arms today, instead waving helplessly at the body on the floor with a sheepish smile.
'Some help?' You ask. 'I'm in a bit of a Sith-uation here.' He groans. 'My love; that was awful.' 'I beg to differ, Maul. It was hilarious.'
The crimson Zabrak rolls his eyes, strolling down the ramp and over to you. He pauses before you, and you think he's going to bend down and hoist the bounty into his arms, but instead he lunges forwards and grabs you, throwing you easily over his shoulder. You yelp in protest, beating your fists against his back, but don't do much else in terms of struggling - you can finally relax, and although you'd envisioned actually sitting down while Maul supplied you with a glass of water and a kiss on the head, this will do just fine. Swinging your legs, you watch from your upside down position as Maul stoops to grab the Iktochi's tunic, slinging him onto the opposite shoulder like a sack of those fried Protatos they sell in Coruscant.
'Alright,' you sigh. 'I can see you're trying to make a point here.' 'Was it with success?' 'Yes, unfortunately,' you growl. 'Put me down, Oppress.' 'No need to get feisty,' he croons. 'I made Tiingilar.'
It's actually almost embarassing how fast you perk up. Food will do that to a hungry Mandalorian like you, you guess. No one makes Tiingilar like Maul does - you haven't tried something as authentic tasting since you left Mandalore, but then, it would make sense, as he was ruler of Mandalore for a while. Knowing Maul, he probably figured out how to make the dish in private, testing out and measuring the exact mass of the spices to add.
Maul sets you down gently at the table as he hauls the bounty over to the carbonite freezer, and you dig into the steaming stew, setting your helmet on the table beside you. Smiling, your Sith sits down beside you, pausing your hurried eating when he cups your jaw, tilting your face to his so he can kiss you, his lips pulling up into a grin against yours as you snake a hand around the back of his head to pull him closer, leaning into his touch. Once he releases you, it doesn't take you long to eat the food he's prepared for you, and you groan, cradling your food baby as you set the clean bowl onto the table.
'That was so good, Maul,' you sigh. 'You spoil me.' 'Anything to see that pretty face of yours,' he replies with a disarming grin. 'Oh, so that's why you cook so much,' you tease. 'And because I love you,' he whispers, voice dropping a few octaves. You smile - so hard your cheeks begin to ache. 'I love you too, Maul.'
It doesn't take you another second - you fall into his arms, the way a comet streaks towards a planet, trapped in its gravity. You are his star, yet you find yourself orbitting him, the shine of glittering galaxies glimmering in your wonder struck eyes; he cradles you in his arms, anchoring you, grounding you, and you wish to stay there forever, sheltered in the arms of the most dangerous man in the universe. He snares you in his grip, yet in doing so, he secures you. The two of you dance together within your own self made solar system, twirling among planets and spinning past asteroid fields, destined, as two star systems are, to collide. And when you do, you explode in a shower of glittering lights, again and again and again, clasped tightly in each others arms.

Another 'reclaim the QuiObi tag' fic for the writing servers event from February. This prompt was given to me by @sanerontheinside and I wrote the following in 24 hours.
This is a WIP. It ends abruptly. I didn't sleep enough last night so I had no energy to finish it before work. It is angsty and I enjoyed the heck out of it and plan to finish it soon.
The prompt was: "When was the last time you ate anything?"
Fandom: Star Wars | Pairing: Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan | Rating: Teen | No Warnings Apply | Words: 1392

"When was the last time you ate anything?"
Obi-Wan moves around the apartment like it is his own because, for a time, it once was. Now however he recognizes that while the plant life has expanded, gloriously succulent and green, there is detritus and dust everywhere.
It isn't messy, really, Qui-Gon doesn't own enough for a mess.
Obi-Wan has come to visit his mentor and friend because it has been three months since they saw one another. Three months of put off meetings and excuses. Obi-Wan has been busy, his training under Qui-Gon made him wholly suited for working with senators and kings in the Republic's restructuring to prevent an ascent like Palatine's from ever happening again.
Or at least for another thousand years.
Qui-Gon is quiet, bathed in muted sunlight like his plants, eyes shut while he sits cross-legged on the floor, hair loose around his shoulders — it looks unkempt though clean.
"I asked, when was the last time you ate something?"
Qui-Gon blinks up at Obi-Wan as though he has only realized his former padawan is there. As though they hadn't greeted one another in that subliminal way, the touch of the Force nudging against them like two cats who are friendly.
He looks thin, much worse than the last time Obi-Wan saw him.
"May I take you out to lunch in the dining hall?"
Qui-Gon shuts his eyes and sighs.
"Perhaps a picnic in the room of a thousand fountains?"
Qui-Gon remains unmoving, the peace which rests over him is tense, somehow.
"Alright, I'm taking you to Dex," Obi-Wan declares and pulls Qui-Gon to his feet.
The further they get from the Temple and the Senate building, the more the demeanor of the crowd changes. The senate pages are transformed into hawkers, the padawans into lawless students. The streets are full of bright droids and raucous songs. It's lively and chaotic, the kind of place Qui-Gon used to thrive in.
Obi-Wan can see in his mind's eye the way Qui-Gon would have turned back to smirk at him, meanwhile making sure he hadn't lost his padawan.
When Obi-Wan glances back, he sees Qui-Gon has his eyes trained on the ground a few feet ahead of him. It's easy to get separated in these crowds, but they both know the way.
Dex's is no longer seating the lunch rush when they walk in, but the smell is still divine, spicy noodles and flatcakes, hot kaf and fizzy-snap. He takes two menus and sits down by the window. Qui-Gon follows but does not look at the menu.
"Already know what you're going to eat?" Obi-Wan asks, but Qui-Gon does not reply.
Despite how often Obi-Wan has come here, he likes the reminder of what's available. When the droid comes to take their order, Obi-Wan gleefully makes use of his mission expense fund to order the works: flatcakes with yogon berry syrup, bacon and eggs, spicy noodles, dumpling soup and a bowl of fruit.
Qui-Gon orders tea.
"One for me as well," Obi-Wan says.
The droid takes his money without remark.
"Did they demolish the Penza Tower?" Qui-Gon asks, peering across the ravine toward the construction going on between warehouses.
"It seems so," Obi-Wan replies, scowling against the sunlight to see what could be going on behind the orange construction fabric. "In the meantime, it's an eyesore."
Qui-Gon makes no reply.
Obi-Wan aches.
Once upon a time, Qui-Gon would have challenged Obi-Wan to see things with nonjudgmental eyes, to reframe the world into neutral terms, to garnish his biased impressions into honest kindness. 'This is how one makes friends with the unfamiliar,' he would say with a twinkle in his eye.
For a second, Obi-Wan has let himself believe that Qui-Gon's interest in the construction site meant he was letting go of some of his guilt, that he was inhabiting the world the way he once used to.
"I heard you requested a transfer to Jedha," Obi-Wan says. It's hard to keep the bitterness from his voice. "The master I once knew would have gone if he felt called to go."
"I am still needed here," Qui-Gon replies, like some sage Jedi. "Thank you," he says to the droid when their tea is delivered. He sighs as he lifts the hot cup to his mouth.
"So you need permission? Is that why you're living like some ascetic?"
Qui-Gon sighs and puts down his cup.
"You're angry with me," Qui-Gon says.
Obi-Wan bristles. "I am not."
"You are." Qui-Gon raises his eyes to meet Obi-Wan's gaze. He looks older in the bright light, his eyes are pale, lined with the shadows of sleepless nights. "I wondered where all your negative emotions had gone after Anakin's death. You seemed so determined to be soft."
That, on the other hand, does make Obi-Wan angry.
"To what purpose would I have loaded you with my pain and sadness when you were already carrying that burden?"
"It is one you relish keeping from me," Qui-Gon says quietly. "To hold it all in is your punishment."
The server droid returned and began off loading plates.
"Forgive me," Obi-Wan says, "but I'm hungry, so I'm going to eat."
He digs in.
For a few moments, Qui-Gon just blows across the surface of his tea and sips. Obi-Wan cuts up the flat cakes and dunks them in the soft eggs, shoveling down food as though he is starving. He had a horrid flight back from Alderaan and wished the food on the shuttle had been better than "nutritious." He's glad that Dex is here, that he can just come and eat his fill.
He wishes Qui-Gon would eat too, however.
As though he hears the thought, Qui-Gon picks up a cube of purple melon and chews it thoughtfully.
"I'm angry with you," Obi-Wan agrees.
Qui-Gon's expression is softly curious.
"I'm angry that you want to leave."
Qui-Gon raises his shoulders, the facsimile of a shrug, it feels like he's giving up. If he's going to Jedha, then he practically has.
"There is very little left here for me," Qui-Gon says, reaching for a small cluster of berries.
Obi-Wan watches him chew on them, only the faintest scowl on his face as the sour taste spreads across his tongue. He worries that what he will say will stop Qui-Gon from eating but he needs to say it.
"Do I matter so little to you?" Obi-Wan asks. "One apprentice falls so you might as well give up on the other one?"
It doesn't land the way Obi-Wan hoped it might. Qui-Gon only hesitates before picking up a slice of bacon.
"You don't need me," he says. "I'm still consulting on the governmental overhaul, I'm still teaching Ataru to the padawans and meditation to the crèchlings. So long as I'm needed, I will stay."
"And what then?" Obi-Wan asks, swallowing hard, appetite gone. "Once the other masters return to their lessons and the government is on its own feet, what then? Will you sit in the desert until you shrivel up and die?"
"Then I will be one with the Force," Qui-Gon replies evenly.
He pulls the half eaten plate of flatcakes toward him and asks, "May I?"
Wordlessly, Obi-Wan nudges the little pitcher of syrup toward Qui-Gon as well. The flatcakes, bacon, and eggs are polished off while Obi-Wan watches.
"It's not about need," Obi-Wan says. "What about wants?"
Qui-Gon leans back in his seat, wiping his mouth, not meeting Obi-Wan's gaze.
"Don't you want to spend time with me?"
He does look up at that however.
"Of course I want to spend time with you," Qui-Gon says, much as he would reassure an aggrieved child who does not yet know that all things end.
"Is that so?" Obi-Wan grips his cup tightly. "You keep dodging me, so I had to assume you did not."
"It's not that—" Qui-Gon begins, just as the droid rolls up to their table again.
"Forgot the soup," they warble, and place a steaming bowl between them.
"What is it then?" Obi-Wan asks, watching the bright red dumplings settle in the milky broth.
"I have made mistakes. They have been laid out for all to see. So I… have been contemplating them."
"What Anakin did is not your fault," Obi-Wan says, leaning in to speak emphatically but quietly.
"Nor is it yours," Qui-Gon replies, raising his eyebrows.

Red Son x reader meeting the parents
Tumblr media
"Red they're gonna hate my dad." You stressed pacing back and forth.
Red Son glanced over his shoulder at you from filling dumplings.
"Nonsense, they'll adore his company. Now come here and help me."
"But-"
Red Son caught your arm and tugged you over.
"The repetitive motions will help your anxiety." He informed. "Something akin to pacing." He added with an annoyed look he shot your way.
You cringed a little.
"Sorry. It's a habit."
Red Son sighed.
"Trust me, I know. There's nothing to worry about. Your father is a strong man and my parents will respect that."
It was true, your father didn't deal with anything or anyone he didn't want to. He was vocal and firm about what he believed and very stubborn. But he was still only human.
"I thought your parents wanted you to marry into a well bred demon family?" You asked glancing up at him while he worked.
Red Son smirked.
"My parents love each other. They want the same for me. Neither of them would prefer I married some harpy all in the name of preserving some useless title."
You relaxed some at that information. It was the first time in two weeks. The Demon Bull family had asked to meet your father and you had scheduled it as far away as possible without being obvious. Your father offered to host for a dinner. He had made the bulk of the food, you and Red Son we're simply finishing up the side dishes before the dinner would start.
His parents would arrive in half an hour. You hadn't thought you could get more anxious over the meeting, you were very wrong.
Your father on the other hand was delighted. He couldn't wait to meet the Demon Bull King and Princess Iron Fan. Which thoroughly surprised you.
Especially as Red Son and your father clashed badly upon their first interaction. They had only recently come to enjoy the other's company.
"What if dad insults them somehow?" You asked, finishing filling the last dumpling.
Red Son was drying his hands when the question arose. He sighed and hung up the towel striding over you to confidently.
"Y/n, I have assured you a thousand times."
You bit your lip and blushed as you caught the flirtatious smile and gleam in his eyes.
He leaned over you just inches away from stealing a kiss.
"Should I find a new method of distraction?" He asked with a smirk.
Your face felt very hot and your heart burned to kiss him, but your father entered at that moment.
"No p.d.a you two. Y/n why don't you run upstairs and get ready. They should be here soon."
Red Son shot him a glare as you stood and rushed upstairs.
Once you were out of earshot he turned to your father with folded arms.
"You still haven't told her?"
Your father set the table.
"Not yet."
"It's been two weeks. She's been driving herself insane for nothing."
Your father nodded.
"I know. But she is...still fragile to the idea. You know her stance on the matter."
Red Son's hair ignited into flame.
"That's because you haven't TOLD HER ANYTHING!"
Your father chuckled which doused Red Son's flames.
"She will learn tonight."
Red Son huffed and glanced up the stairs with a worried frown. He only hoped you would take it well.
Meanwhile
You brushed your hair and put on a red dress that never failed to ignite not only Red's face but also his hair on fire.
When you finished, you made your way down the stairs.
Red Son was helping your father and did a double take when he caught sight of you.
Instantly, his hair burst into flames and his cheeks turned your favorite shade of crimson.
You smiled taking in the moment when a knock came at the door. The noise made your anxiety explode in your chest and you rushed over to Red Son taking his hand for comfort.
And for the first time in two weeks Red Son seemed just as anxious as you.
"Demon Bull King, Princess Iron Fan welcome." Your father greeted as he opened the door.
Princess Iron Fan entered first smiling with a brow raised as though she was amused.
"Such a humble dwelling for one such as yourself, Black wind."
You stared in confusion and shock as the Demon Bull King entered the house with a wide grin.
"It's been too long old friend!" He patted your father on the back and your jaw dropped.
That was the moment Princess Iron Fan seemed to notice your shock.
"It seems you haven't told your daughter yet."
Your father turned to look at you.
You quickly recovered and plastered on a confused smile.
"I admit I am...slightly confused."
Red Son frowned and wrapped an arm around your waist tugging you closer.
Your father gave you a reassuring smile.
"I wanted her to see demons are not so different from humans. But we can talk about it over dinner, come."
You had once had a firm belief that humans were equal to demons. But demons often used their powers to subject humans. That was before you met Red Son. You both learned from each other, but you hadn't imagined what you would learn tonight.
Over the course of the night you learned your father was not actually human. Infact, he was a very powerful Demon whom had known the Demon Bull King since childhood. Your mother had been human and he had fallen in love with her.
She had changed him and when you were born, your mother passed away. He wanted you to have a good life, but knew the old ways were long gone and that he would have to adapt to the human lifestyle. So he had.
At a young age you had begun to develop powers and he had decided to wait to teach you to use them. Using a special necklace your mother once wore, he used his powers to make the necklace a barrier for you. It would seal away your powers until you were ready to train with them.
He was already arranging to have you train with Princess Iron Fan when you and Red Son had fallen in love. It was a lot of information to take in, but it eased your anxiety greatly.
"So,what do you think?" Princess Iron Fan asked with a smirk. "Would you like to learn the depth of your capabilities?"
You smiled as Red Son took your hand under the table.
"Count me in."

Overwhelmed (Vinny x Garmadon Part 6)
(I suggest you go read part 1-5 if you haven’t already)( also I ship Kai and Cole don’t come harass me!)( guys forgive me they’re eating in this chapter but I don’t know if it’s accurate so yea)(Vinny wears a glove on his right hand btw and also the purple oni smoke that comes out of Garmadons’ hands burn in my au my rules)(I’d appreciate if you check out my new book it’s Cyrus x Acronix)
“W-what was that for!?”Vinny exclaimed though it was muffled due to him shoving his face into the mattress. “What, am I not allowed to kiss you?” Garmadon replied in a snarky tone. Vinny didn’t respond and kept his face in the mattress he didn’t mind Garmadon kissing him but it was surprising to think of the fact that the dark lord has fallen for a cameraman.
Garmadon let out a sigh before sitting on the bed and picking up Vinny the putting him on his lap. The larger began nuzzling the smallers’ neck causing his to laugh out, “G-Garm stop t-that it tickles!” The smaller giggled out. Garmadon obviously ignored his pleas to stop because he loved seeing the smaller laugh he just seemed so pure.
There was a knock at the door and Vinny jumped out of Garmadons’ lap and went to the door, it was Kai and Cole, “Hey you two, Master wu told us to come here and tell you Zane made food so come out if you want and that after you can train Lloyd” Kai said before grabbing Coles’ hand and walking away. “Do you wanna go?” Vinny asked which to Garmadon nodded and stood up walking towards the door and Vinny following behind.
The two made their way to where the ninja was sitting they had to add some space for the two but that was quickly dealt with. Cole was already stuffing his face with noodles and dumplings while Jay and Lloyd were eat puffy potstickers. The smith siblings were drinking miso soup and Wu was eating some pie and tea. Garmadon and Vinny began eating whatever (no more describing food) “So Vinny I haven’t seen you since like after the end of the overlord, how’s everything going?” Nya asked trying to be friendly because it was awfully quiet at the table. Vinny looked up at Nya, “oh honestly everythings’ been amazing “he replied.
Jay hesitantly asked, “S-so umm…has G-Garmadon ever hurt you…?” After Jay asked that he received a bonk on the head from Nya and literally everyone stared at Jay. “Why would you ask a question like that?” Vinny asked he was looking down at the table and so was Garmadon they really didn’t like this at all. “I-I’m just curious…I mean maybe like when he first came to your apartment and he didn’t know how to act”Jay replied at this point everyone at the table was giving Jay a death stare while Lloyd on the other hand was curious just like the blue ninja.
“It’s fine you can tell them…”Garmadon whispered quietly to Vinny. The smaller looked up at him with a concerned looked before nodding. “There…there was one time..” Vinny said. At that point everyone focused their attention from Jay onto Vinny, they knew it was rude to talk about but they were so curious. “Just like you said it was when he first came to my apartment he was…adjusting..”Vinny said, Garmadon hated remembering it but, he knew Vinny forgave him he’s apologised a thousand times already.
“So one time he didn’t necessarily understand human culture at all and well that made him angry…..he well….grabbed my hand and you know the purple oni smoke….well it kinda burnt my hand….accidentally of course”,Vinny said looking at his right hand which had a black glove over it. Jay felt really bad asking that question now apologised for the sensitive topic. “Is that what the glove is for?” Zane asked to which Vinny nodded. Garmadon didn’t want to speak he felt guilt all the time about the event and now it felt worse.
“Honestly, don’t feel too bad about Kai burns us nearly all the time in training and he accidentally burns himself sometimes” Cole said trying to brighten the mood and wrapping his arm around Kai. Nya and Jay laughed, “Yea that is true, and Cole only trains with him because he wants to spend more time with Kai!”Lloyd laughed out, Kai and Cole turned a bright red as the others began teasing them. Master Wu let out a sigh of relief to see that the attention has been focused away from his brother and Vinny.
Garmadon felt a sense of relief as well but he was still stressed which to Vinny grabbed his hand and began using his finger to trace circles. Wu and Zane both noticed this causing Zane to become confused and Wu to feel happy for his brother. The group eventually finished eating and moved on from making fun of Kai and Cole turning this back into a normal dinner with the group.
“Shall we go and train Lloyd now?” Wu asked the Garmadon then looked at Lloyd. “Very well, but I shall go do something first” Garmadon said before getting up and going back to his room. Vinny began to worry and stood up he was going to take his plate but Zane told him he’ll take it in. Vinny thanked Zane then went after Garmadon to find him sitting on their bed in their room.
Vinny let out a sigh walked in and closed the door before sitting down next to him. “You feeling alright…?”Vinny asked before gently grabbing Garmadons’ hand, “Yea..”he responded. Vinny turned Garmadons’ head to be facing him, “You and me both know that it wasn’t your fault you had no idea what happened you were just angry and confused, I’ve told you already that I forgive you….”Vinny said before pulling Garmadon down and resting the largers’ head on his chest.
“It was ages ago”Vinny said gently kissing Garmadons’ head repeatedly and stroking his hand through his lovers silver hair. The larger sat up the stared at Vinny before kissing him, this caught Vinny off guard and made him blush. “You could’ve asked me for a kiss” the smaller said. “I know but…it’s better to do it when you don’t expect it” Garmadon replied.
The larger stood up the grabbed the smallers’ hand before kissing it the walking over to Christofern and using a spray to water him, “We shall go to have me probably fail at teaching my son at controlling his oni form” Garmadon said before going down to where the ninja were.
“You two shall make an attempt to listen to eachother” Wu said to his brother and nephew

THE PRINCESS WEI YANG - 164 PART 2
CHAPTER 164: Ten Thousand Vermin
After coming out of the dungeon, Li Wei Yang heard that Tuoba Yu was visiting. She walked to the pavilion and saw Tuoba Yu standing up with a smile on his face and said: "You are here. I have prepared some pastries and brought them for you to taste."
At this time? All this way? Li Wei Yang was startled.
"What are you thinking about?" Tuoba Yu asked softly.
Li Wei Yang originally looked at the plates of exquisite snacks, then turned her head and met Tuoba Yu's eyes. Her expression looked a little absent-minded: "Nothing."
"This were made by the famous chef I specially invited from Jingzhou. The milk rolls he makes are the most authentic. Not only are they sweet and delicious, you can't stop eating once you have one. Do you want to try it?" Tuoba Yu asked the maid on the side to serve Li Wei Yang a place, but her expression was very ordinary, and she didn't even touch it.
Tuoba Yu looked at her, "No appetite?"
Li Wei Yang smiled and said: "Thank you for your kindness, You Highness Seventh Prince, but it is inappropriate for you to come here so often."
Of course it is inappropriate. Everyone knows that she is Princess Anping and the adopted daughter of the Empress Dowager. She is two degrees above Tuoba Yu in seniority. He often visits Li Mansion saying he is here to see Li Xiaoran. Who didn't know that he was here to see her? After all, everyone could tell that the Seventh Prince was interested in her. The weirdest thing was that Tuoba Yu clearly wanted to fight for the throne. Since that was the case, he should have kept a proper distance from her. What was the point in chasing after her and pursuing her?
Tuoba Yu motioned to the maid on the side to scoop out a bowl of soup for Li Wei Yang: "If you can't eat snacks, you can drink some soup. These are pearl dumplings from Tianshan Mountain, which have the effect of nourishing and beautifying the skin."
Li Wei Yang held the bowl in her hand, but he soup didn't touch her lips, and she put down the bowl: "Why are you acting like this?"
"I am willing to do so." Tuoba Yu replied.
Li Wei Yang took a long breath and said with a smile: "Then I really have to thank you for your kindness."
"You also need my help, don't you?" Tuoba Yu was silent for a moment, then suddenly spoke, clenching his hands so that his fingers turned white from the pressure. "With how to get rid of him -" He suddenly looked not far away, where a figure seemed to be standing in the distance.
Li Wei Yang had already noticed that Li Minde was standing there, but she just didn't want Tuoba Yu to find out too. She lowered her eyes and said calmly: "This is my own business, so I won't bother you."
Tuoba Yu's face turned cold, and his eyes showed a trace of imperceptible pain. Soon, this pain was replaced by anger. She should be cruel and ruthless. If she really wants to reject a man, there are many ways, but she can't do anything about Li Minde. What does this mean? Li Wei Yang may not realize it herself, but Tuoba Yu, who has been looking at her, understands.
He liked her so much that he changed his principles for her and became less and less like himself. But she had already moved her gaze and started to like someone else. He was standing in front of her, but she didn't see him at all. Tuoba Yu ground his teeth. When Li Wei Yang noticed something was wrong with him, he had already relaxed his brows and said with a smile: "What's wrong? Since you treat me as a friend, what can't you say?"
Tuoba Yu showed special concern, but Li Wei Yang's attitude became even more indifferent, saying: "I said, this is my own business. Your Highness should pay more attention to your great cause."
Tuoba Yu turned his head away and clenched his hands, fearing that he would be so angry that he couldn't control himself and would lose his temper in public.
That person was getting closer and closer, as if they wanted to come over, and Li Wei Yang suddenly approached Tuoba Yu, and whispered softly in his ears: "Your Majesty, Seventh Prince, since you really want to help, don't mind if I try using you." Tuoba Yu was stunned, and Li Wei Yang smiled, took a piece of pasty for him, and said: "It is indeed very delicious, you can try it."
She did it just to show that person, she didn't really care about him at all. Tuoba Yu was extremely angry, but then he thought, if he could drive his love rival go away, it might be a good thing for him. After all, he didn't dare to do anything to Li Minde casually, because he had an intuition of the other party's weight in Li Wei Yang's heart, so he had to endure it with all his strength. Now Li Wei Yang took the initiative to drive away that person, and he gets what he wants.
"If you ask, I won't refuse." He smiled and actually wanted to hold her hand.
Li Wei Yang quietly took her hand away and expressed her gratitude with a smile: "Then, thank you very much."
Her beautiful eyes were shining, which made Tuoba Yu's heart tremble. It's a pity that such tenderness and beauty were only for another man. Tuoba Yu couldn't help but feel like a knife had been inserted in his heart, but his face was composed. He smiled and said: "By the way, there has been no movement from Princess Anguo. She obviously believed what Hui Nu said. In fact, I think there is really no need to keep that secret guards. It is better to get rid of him to avoid future troubles."
Li Wei Yang took a sip of tea and said: "I will keep him for my own use. Don't worry, it won't delay the important event."
"If they dare to come and assassinate you, we can't leave anyone alive -" Tuoba Yu thought that if Li Wei Yang hadn't been prepared, she would no longer be able to sit here at this moment, and couldn't help but ignite flames in his eyes.
"Am I not safe?"
Tuoba Yu looked at her: "But I will be very worried."
In the pavilion, Li Wei Yang and Tuoba Yu were sitting together, a perfect couple, talking and laughing merrily, and seated so close to each other. Their appearance made people feel angry when they saw them. However, Li Minde suppressed his anger and walked up, smiled and said: "Why is His Highness the Seventh Prince here?"
"His Highness—" Li Wei Yang just said a few words, but slowly changed her address and said, "Quan Qi brought snacks over, shall we try them together?"
Quan Qi is the birth name of Tuoba Yu, and in the Dali Dynasty, people would call someone by their birth nameonly if they were very close to each other. (t/n: In traditional practice in some Asian countries for people to have two names: a birth name and courtesy name. A courtesy name is a name traditionally given to men marking their coming of age. Once a man is an adult he would only be addressed using his courtesy name and the one one who used his birth name  would be people who are close with him on a personal level such as senior relatives, close friends, and significant others. Tuoba Yu is the Seventh Prince's courtesy name and Quan Qi is his birth name. ) What's more, this was the Seventh Prince of Dali. How dare anyone in this world call him that. There are really not many people who were qualified. But now he showed a happy expression and said: "Third Young Master, let's have some tea together."
Li Minde had a smile on his face, but his eyes were cold.
"Your Highness, I heard that King Chaoyang intends to marry Princess Pinting to you. Although it was delayed due to the Empress' funeral, Princess Pinting has spread the word that she will not marry anyone but you in this life. Now you come here to show your favor to Wei Yang, I'm afraid it's not good."
Tuoba Yu's face darkened and he said firmly: "It is impossible for me to marry Princess Pinting."
Li Minde's handsome face was smiling, but the smile contained sarcasm: "Oh? Is it impossible? King Chaoyang has gone to the Seventh Prince's Mansion three times in one month, could it be just a casual visit."
In fact, Li Minde has already found out that King Chaoyang has secretly colluded with Tuoba Yu. What can make King Chaoyang give up his neutrality and stand on Tuoba Yu's side, except for the position of Empress. Now that Tuoba Yu has decided to marry Princess Pinting, it is really unacceptable to come running to Li Wei Yang.
Tuoba Yu's expression changed slightly, and he was worried that Li Wei Yang would mind. She is now his aunt, and there is no way she can become his wife. In order to inherit the throne, he must marry a princess whose status and family match his own. And Princess Pinting is the most suitable candidate. But he didn't know why, he was still hesitating in his heart. If he chooses to marry Princess Pinting, he will lose the chance to win Li Wei Yang's heart. But on the other hand, if you want to get Li Wei Yang, you must get the throne first, and King Chaoyang is a very powerful helper at this stage. On the surface, King Chaoyang is an idle prince who does not care about military power, but he is the Emperor's maternal cousin. He was a key figure in helping the Emperor seize the throne back then. He is also the only King with a different surname alive today which shows the status of King Chaoyang in the Emperor's heart. He was willing to write a letter to ask the Emperor to appoint a  Crown Prince, and the matter was more than half successful. But it is difficult to get King Chaoyang to choose sides. He already has great power, fame, status and countless beauties. The only trouble he had was the marriage of the extremely beautiful and outstanding Princess Pinting. This is the best way for Tuoba Yu to approach him.
In the past, Tuoba Yu would disdain to trade his own marriage, but in order to get Li Wei Yang and the throne, he is now willing to do whatever it takes. But when his actions were discovered by Li Minde, he felt extremely embarrassed. But at the same time, there is also a secret expectation. He hopes that Li Wei Yang will say something, whether it is anger, jealousy, or even a little bit of sadness.
Li Wei Yang slowly smiled and said: "Oh? Is this really the case? Princess Pinting is a good match, but King Chaoyang is not easy to get along with. If Pinting is the princess, it will not be easy for you to marry a secondary wife."
Tuoba Yu and Li Minde were both stunned. Li Minde tried hard to suppress the anger surging in his heart and said: "Since the Seventh Prince has made his choice, he should avoid suspicion."
At this time, Li Wei Yang said softly: "The overall situation is more important. I am not someone who cares about reputation. I guess Quan Qi won't mind either, right?"
Tuoba Yu was stunned. Li Wei Yang said this, clearly telling Li Minde that she didn't care about Tuoba Yu getting married, or even that she didn't care about her status. Indeed, if Tuoba Yu ascends the throne, he will have many concubines. As the adopted daughter of the Empress Dowager, Li Wei Yang must not marry him blatantly. However, in the previous dynasty, there were also cases where a princess never married but had a lover. Tuoba Yu could not give Li Wei Yang a title, but he could give her real power and status, even more than the honor and favor of all women in the harem. All three people here understand this.
There was a moment of ecstasy in Tuoba Yu's heart. After Li Minde revealed his secret dealings with Chaoyang King, Li Wei Yang said something similar to a confession, which ignited hope in his heart. Maybe Li Wei Yang cares about him, but her feelings are too restrained and she can't express them. However, when he sees clearly that Li Wei Yang's eyes are looking at Li Minde, his heart suddenly surged with anger. He suddenly realized that everything she did was for another person.
"Is this your true intention?" Li Minde looked at Li Wei Yang quietly, and when he saw her gently nodding, he smiled miserably. "Then, I have nothing to say." He turned around quietly, his back straight and lonely, he staggered and almost fell down the steps.
Li Wei Yang's expression changed slightly and she almost stood up. However, when she came to her senses, she was still sitting there.
"You are so cruel. You treated me like this, and you did the same to him." Tuoba Yu suddenly laughed, but he didn't know whether he was laughing at Li Minde for being unable to see through Li Weiyang's true intentions, or mocking himself for coming to this point and wholeheartedly trying to obtain Li Wei Yang.
Today he has completely understood who Li Wei Yang's thoughts are on. This woman is very cold-blooded and ruthless. If she doesn't care, she won't even look at you even if you die at her feet. No matter how much you love her or how much you beg her, she will not respond. But today for Li Minde, she actually showed him an affection that he had never seen before, and even gave an ambiguous hint. If he didn't know the truth, he would probably go crazy with joy, but now he is sitting here, watching her performance. For Tuoba Yu, it is a kind of cruel torture.
The wind howled by, and it sounded like someone was crying. Li Wei Yang stood up and said: "Your Highness, please go back." After saying that, she turned around and left without any regrets, not even interested in listening to what Tuoba Yu said.
He lowered his head, squeezed the tea cup in his hand, and suddenly laughed uncontrollably. The maids on the side looked at each other, wondering why the noble and cold Seventh Prince suddenly went crazy. What on earth was this person laughing about? But at this moment they saw him smashing the tea cup with a bang, and his hands became stained with blood. But he didn't seem to notice it, he simply stood up and walked away.
What exactly happened here?
Li Wei Yang walked to the garden, but suddenly someone grabbed her wrist and dragged her into the rockery. Zhao Yue was about to take action, but a long sword was pressed against her neck: "Don't move."
Zhao Yue was startled and stamped her feet: "Brother, you are crazy!"
"Master has something to say to Third Miss, and it has nothing to do with you." Zhao Nan said with an unusually cold expression.
"I will stop anything that goes against the young lady's wishes. Get away!" Zhao Yue casually tried to push away the tip of his sword, but unexpectedly the other party's long sword cut her slender neck: "Brother, you are crazy?! You actually attacked me?!"
"Zhao Yue, you have forgotten your mission. The only purpose of you and I coming here is to protect the master, but you only know how to follow the third lady all day long. Have you forgotten who your true master is?" Zhao Nan scolded sternly, his face more serious than ever before.
Zhao Yue was stunned, and then said: "You and father are the same. You always tell me to practice martial arts, train hard, and obey orders, but I am a person, not a tool! You asked me to protect the master, and I am here. The master asked me to protect the lady, and I have always tried my best. But now, I want to stay with the lady. Because in so long, she is the first person to defend me. Even though I'm just a servant, she would seek justice for me from the Prince Yan. Even if she was in dire straits, she still wanted the heads of those six guards to avenge me. Brother, neither you nor father will do this for me!"
This time, it was Zhao Nan's turn to be completely stunned. He didn't know when, but this little girl who listened to everything he said had turned into a determined woman. Maybe she didn't know it yet, but her every move was imitating Li Wei Yang. She worshiped her and admired her inner strength, so she could not help but follow her. This magical power has surpassed Zhao Yue's sense of belonging to the mission and has become the spiritual pillar in her heart - Zhao Nan feels that this development is very bad. For guards, it is their duty to protect their master, but Zhao Yue's worship of Li Wei Yang has seriously affected their mission. Just as he was about to say something, Zhao Yue swung away his sword: "Brother, the reason why I didn't fight you is because the lady didn't let me. Next time you dare to point your sword at me, don't blame me for being rude!"
Zhao Nan's eyes darkened. This child was actually serious. If he wanted to hurt Li Wei Yang, I'm afraid she would pull out her long sword and stop him. What kind of medicine did Li Wei Yang give her to make her so determined? He couldn't understand.
Just as Li Wei Yang was about to break free, her wrist was gripped tightly by an ice-cold hand. Her body became unsteady for a moment, and she staggered into Li Min De's embrace. She missed the warmth for a moment, but finally, she quietly separated from him. Their foreheads were touching, and their eyes accidentallymet, but Li Wei Yang moved her gaze away first.
Li Minde touched Li Wei Yang's face. For more than a month, he had never experienced such lovesickness. Although she was so close, she always turned a blind eye to him. His heart was empty, no matter what happened. Zhao Nan asked him to return to Yuexi immediately, but he didn't care. Because the person he loves is here, so no matter where he goes, what's the point?
When he finally realized this, he didn't force himself to wait any more meaninglessly. He took the initiative to come to her, but he didn't expect that she would do what she did in front of him.
He knew her so well. She was not the kind of woman who could tolerate a man having three wives and four concubines. If she really liked Tuoba Yu, she could have married him long ago. Why did she choose to say such things in front of him? Everything is to force him away! She must have had concerns when she did this, so how could he still hold back the restlessness in his heart!
"How long are you going to hide!" It was like a dull knife cutting back and forth in his heart. Words that he had never said before blurted out so easily, "Do you know that your performance is very poor!"
Li Wei Yang was stunned. It turned out that Tuoba Yu knew about her act, and he also knew about it. Yes, they are all rare smart people in the world, how could they not see through her tricks?
Looking at her, Li Minde was so heartbroken that he didn't know what to do. He vowed to hold her in his palm and take good care of her. However, she still didn't trust him and refused to let go of the burden. Could it be that he really did too little? So much so that she was so uneasy and couldn't believe his feelings. "Wei Yang, can you really avoid it for the rest of your life?"
Li Wei Yang looked at him, and his face seemed to have slight fluctuations in her eyes.
Li Minde, no, Yuan Lie, what kind of man is he? Just now she thought she had deceived him, but now she realized that he was as cunning as a fox, easily penetrating her mind. He was so overbearing that he didn't allow her to escape anymore. Thinking of this, Li Wei Yang asked softly: "Minde, what can you give me?"
Li Minde looked at her and said slowly: "What do you want?"
Li Wei Yang's voice was as soft as the ripples of spring water, but it contained countless chills: "I want no one in the world to dare to bully me anymore, I want real freedom, I want the supreme power, I want the highest authority in the world. Can you give it to me?"
Li Minde was stunned, staring at her intently, silent for a long time, as if he wanted to carve her into his eyes. Slowly, his hand touched her cheek, slid over, and went into her hair. Li Wei Yang's breath caught, and she couldn't help but open her mouth. When their lips met, there was a faint, fierce taste to his kiss. In her moment of confusion, she had forgotten to refuse. He was passionate, wildly demanding, confusedly teasing, and full of affection.
After a long time, he suddenly let go of her, raised his lips, and said confidently: "What's so difficult about this? As long as you want it, I will snatch it for you, no matter what the cost, and I will give you everything you ask!"
------Digression-----
Editor: Damn, I'm scared of your ants, bugs and mice!
Xiao Qin: Don't you claim that you are not afraid of anything?
Editor: Too twisted, (⊙o⊙)!

The Night of Tento-okuri
I wrote this FF because I was annoyed that we didn't see Hien once the Doman restoration was complete and I made Dango one day and thought up a story lel. May contain spoilers from 4.0 to 6.1
The Doman Enclave had finally finished reconstructing, it may not have been restored to its former glory but it was nonetheless a ray of hope for its citizens, who had long suffered under Garlean cruelty. It was the festival of Tento-okuri, Edana and the others had just released lanterns into the night sky, it was a sight to behold. The children and maidens giggled and gasped at the beauty of the lamps lighting up The One River, Edana too stared out to the skyline wondering how far they'll make it. The elderly watched quietly and shared glances at one another, most likely glad that the war was over and they had their home back, that their children and grandchildren will be safe long after they were gone knowing that it was now in good hands, the hands of their lost and returned Prince and Lord, Hien. He was not here this evening, most likely working as usual at the Kienkan. Edana wished that he'd rest every now and again. Hien had not taken a day away from his desk or his sword since the day he was instated as the lord and protector of Doma.
Hien thought of and did nothing else, that he cared for his people was no surprise to anyone but he hardly cared for himself and his own health, Edana wondered if part of him felt guilty about what happened to his homeland, if so, she wished he didn't. He was just a child, he had no control over what happened. That pressure of restoring his homeland must've burdened his mind and heart all his life. Children don't forget things like that so easily. She shook the thoughts out of her head and no sooner had she turned from the river to leave the gazebo when she heard distant hoots and chants of "He's here! He's here! Lord Hien is come!" and "The Prince has arrived, praise Lord Hien!" as well as "The Crimson Phoenix! The Phoenix of Doma!" also "All hail, Hien The Just! Hien The Just!" until that was all she heard, that name stuck it seemed, it deafened all others. 'Hien The Just' rather fitting I think, Edana thought. He was making his way through the crowd towards the gazebo, greeting people and blessing children, making a jape or two to make them laugh, she looked at him with a soft smile on her face and when he finally arrived, she came down from the gazebo and bowed towards him. It was a deep bow, reminiscent of the traditional greeting of the samurai. Hien was flabbergasted and said "My dear friend, please! We have stood beside one another on the battlefield, bested foes together and shared our food and drink. We have fought as equals and faced our enemies together, you do not bow to me or anyone. Please, stand tall beside me as you always have." cheers and applause went throughout the Garden and eventually everyone bowed to Hien and Edana. She was flushed as cheers of "All hail The Radiant Hero and The Just Lord!" and "Bless The Liberator and The Prince!" went through the crowd. She should've been used to it by now but she wasn't. She'd been called many things; Warrior of Light, Blessed of Hydaelyn, Hydaelyn's Chosen, Hero of Eorzea, Bringer of Light, Savior of Ishgard, Liberator of Ala Mhigo and the Eastern Front, and so on. 'The Radiant Hero' had now been added to the list. She was also once called 'Stealer of Pants' and she thought that was a bit strange but she paid it no mind.
Hien went on the inspect the Enclave with Ihase, Mitsuba and others who worked day and night restoring the place, Edana stayed back by The Ten Thousand Stalls which were illuminated by little fairy lights. There was delectable, mouth-watering food in each stall and on each table; little popsicles in the shapes of animals for the children, Sake for the adults, and steaming hot-pot with dumplings, meat skewers, steak, bowls and bowls of Oden, pancakes and tea, so so much tea. Edana was made to have a big feast of Miso Soup with Tofu and Fish Stew with a side of Buuz from The Azim Steppe, Takoyaki which was glazed with a stick brown sauce that was sweet and slightly tangy and Doman Tea to wash it all down. No matter how much she ate, food wouldn't stop appearing on her plate. By the time she was done, her stomach felt as if it were about to burst so she got up, snuck away from the festivities and went to the harbour for a walk.
The peaceful calm of the river filled the air, creating a serenity that enveloped her. In the distance, Edana could hear the sounds of celebration, but it was the gentle flow of the river that captivated her attention. She could no longer see the lanterns, only mountains, and clouds that slightly glowed from the faint light of dawn. She was just walking about when she heard a voice say "Ah, what do you think they'll call this age?" she was startled. Despite having great instincts, she was caught off guard, her fatigue must have taken over her. It was Hien and he smirked at her reaction, he found it amusing. Hien held two sticks of Dango in his hands and handed one over to Edana, saying "These were my favourite things to eat growing up, I'd often pester my mother or Gosetsu to get some for me and get upset when they wouldn't. Hmm, they bring back memories." He took a bite and so did Edana, they were soft and chewy with a hint of sweetness. They were covered with sticky brown syrup and had faint tastes of cherry blossoms and matcha. "they're delicious!" Edana exclaimed and Hien smiled at her. "Well, you haven't answered my question." "What question? Oh-" She suddenly remembered what he had asked and brought herself back to reality, she had become so captivated by the sweetness of the dessert that she forgot she was having a conversation with Hien.
"Well, they could always call it 'The Reign of Hien the Just' or 'The Hienic Period.' You are their lord after all and they adore you with all their hearts. And there's more like...'The Dawn of the Crimson Phoenix!'" She smiled at him but he only had a soft grin on his face. "Well, I think they'll call it... 'The Age of the Radiant Hero.'" Edana looked at him, puzzled, "I wouldn't be looking over this land and its peoples if it weren't for you my friend, you have given us the chance to hope for a future again and I will forever be in your debt." He finally finished. Hien was standing very close to her, looking into her eyes, and for a moment her heart even skipped a beat. She knew he was most likely being sincere as usual and he was but the way he looked at her... she couldn't help but blush a little. She shook her head and responded "Hien... I may have been credited with liberating this land but it wasn't me who brought it back on its feet. People can free slaves, and topple corrupted power but very few of them actually stick around to build their nation back up. I didn't stay after the war, not for long anyway but you did. It's true, I helped with the reconstruction but if it weren't for you, your determination, and sheer will to fight for and save your people, none of them would be here. They have faith in you and that's why they stay. I may be remembered as the liberator of Doma or 'The Radiant Hero' but you, Hien, you will always be remembered as 'Prince Hien the Just,' a man who stood for Doma when no one else would along with his trusted companions Yugiri and Gosetsu." Hien looked away, it was clear he felt a bit flustered, but he added "you should add your name there too" whilst chuckling and Edana giggled as well "but truly Edana, if there's anything I can do for you, please let me know." Edana moved around a bit, playfully and said "well... I suppose there is one thing you may do for me."
"Oh? And what is it? If it is within my reach, I shall be more than happy to fulfil this wish."
"You owe me rest! You are working all the time! Every time I visit Doma, you are stuck inside the Kienkan, working on maps, letters, and plans, or out in Yanxia! Take some rest, I know so many people count on you and the burden can be hard to bear but isn't that more of a reason to take some time away?!" Hien wore that smile, the smile where his eyes turned downward slightly and he looked embarrassed and flustered at the same time. "Yes yes, I promise!" he jokingly bowed to her, as if asking for forgiveness and they giggled. By this point, they had finished eating and Edana said "You should probably get back, they'll be missing you" but Hien protested, "Nay, I doubt it. You said so yourself, I'm always in the Kienkan, they won't mind if I'm away. Let them have their fun, I'd rather stay here with you." He was looking at her again, with a smug smile on his face and his eyes were soft. Edana was blushing red; gosh, this man knows exactly how to make a woman blush "well then, I suppose... we can stay a little while longer."
They sat by the port and looked at the water and then the sky. The lanterns had almost disappeared by now and the sun was like to rise soon.

Global Hanukkah Cuisine: What We Eat and Why:
On Hanukkah, we traditionally serve holiday dishes cooked in oil to commemorate the miracle of a single vial of oil lasting eight days. But oil as the Hanukkah food of choice was not always so. One thousand years ago, in the warmer climates of the Mediterranean, Middle East, and North Africa, the Hanukkah specialty dish was a cheese latke (pancake), which commemorated Judith's heroic efforts to save her people during the second century B.C.E. As the story (told in the Apocrypha) goes, the Syrian General Holofernes was sent to Bethulia (due east of Caesarea) by King Nebuchadnesser to annihilate the Jews. To make him thirsty, the beautiful Judith fed him salty cheese, followed by wine. The more he ate, the thirstier he became-and the more wine he drank. When the general passed out, Judith beheaded him, and his troops fled in fear. Thus did Asian Jews come to associate cheese pancakes with the Maccabean victory of their ancestors. In Eastern Europe, where the climate was considerably colder, Jews did not have easy access to dairy products, so for Hanukkah celebrations, they turned to the foods at hand. Raising geese was a Jewish occupation at the time, and in December, fattened geese provided meat and fat for cooking. Potatoes, too, were readily available and cheap, which is how a crisp, golden potato galette cooked in goose fat became a Hanukkah favorite. (Learn more about this history.) In Amsterdam in the late 16th century, stewed vegetables became the Hanukkah dish of choice in commemoration of the Dutch military victory over the invading Spanish army. At dinner time on October 3, 1574, the Dutch launched a surprise attack on the Spanish military encampment in Leyden, forcing the Spaniards to flee-and abandon simmering pots of stewed vegetables with meat. Associating the siege of Leyden with the Hasmonean victory, Dutch Jews established the tradition of serving a mashed stew of vegetables with kielbasa on Hanukkah.
Other global Hanukkah cuisine includes:
Berenjenas con miel: Spanish Jews eat deep-fried eggplant rounds drizzled with honey.
Buñuelos: This light-as-air fried dough dessert is popular in Mexico, Cuba, and Colombia.
Cassola: Baked ricotta cheesecake originated in Italy, now frequently found in the form of cheese pancakes.
Frituras de malanga: Cuban taro fritters have a mild flavor and are perfect for Hanukkah.
Gulam jamun: Deep-fried milk balls are popular in India, typically soaked in rose-flavored syrup.
Keftes de prasa: Leek fritters are popular amongst Sephardic Jews, especially those in Turkey, Greece, and Romania. An alternative is keftes de espinaca, fried spinach patties.
Kibbeh: In the Middle East, dishes made with bulgur grace the Hanukkah table, like these meat pies.
Kibbet yatkeen: Syrian pumpkin patties are traditionally made with bulgur.
Malawach: Yemenite Jews top this flaky, fried flatbread with eggs, zhug (a spicy herbed sauce), and other toppings.
Samsa: Sweet, fried dumplings stuffed with walnuts are eaten in Bukhara, or modern-day Uzbekistan.
Sfenj: Deep-fried yeast donuts are popular in Morocco, with or without dusting sugar.
Jalebi: Crispy fritters in squiggly patterns are popular in India, reminiscent of North American funnel cakes.
Rosquitas: This circular fried dough pastry originated in Andalusia (Spain) and is said to represent unity and eternity.
Tostones: Twice-fried smashed plantains are popular in Cuba and throughout Latin America, and they're perfect for Hanukkah.
Panelle: Fried chickpea fritters originated in Sicily and are sometimes even eaten on sandwiches.
Platanos fritos: Fried sweet plantains are popular for Hanukkah in Central America, especially Colombia.
Zalabia: Yemenite fried dough, topped with powdered sugar or honey, is a popular dessert at Hanukkah and other holidays.

“The Unique Food Culture of Russia”
Tumblr media
By Lunce Carpio
Russia is known for its vast landscapes, rich history, and diverse traditions. But one of the most intriguing aspects of Russian life is its unique food culture. Russian cuisine, influenced by its geography, climate, and historical ties with various cultures, offers a hearty and comforting culinary experience. Let's dive into the flavors, traditions, and dishes that define Russian food culture.
A Rich History of Influence
Russian cuisine is a reflection of its historical crossroads with Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Over centuries, these influences have blended to create a diverse and complex culinary landscape. The harsh winters and short growing seasons in Russia have also shaped the dishes, making them hearty, filling, and ideal for cold weather.
Staples like rye bread, root vegetables, and hearty grains play a significant role in the cuisine. Historically, the reliance on preserved foods, such as pickled vegetables and smoked fish, helped Russian families survive the long winters. The result is a cuisine that is rich in fermented flavors, comforting soups, and warming stews.
Key Ingredients in Russian Cuisine
Russia's climate has limited the variety of crops that can be grown, so traditional Russian food revolves around a few staple ingredients:
- Potatoes: Used in many forms—boiled, mashed, fried, or in soups—potatoes are central to the Russian diet.
- Beets: Famous for borscht, a beetroot soup that has become a symbol of Eastern European cuisine.
- Cabbage: Frequently used in stews, soups, and as a key component in the popular dish, *sauerkraut* (fermented cabbage).
- Mushrooms: Foraged from the Russian forests, mushrooms are commonly found in many dishes.
- Sour Cream (Smetana): A ubiquitous condiment, often added to soups, salads, and meat dishes.
- Grains: Buckwheat (known as *kasha*), barley, and rye are fundamental in Russian breads and porridge-like dishes.
Traditional Russian Dishes
1. Borscht: A beet soup of Ukrainian origin but widely adopted in Russia, borscht can be served hot or cold. It’s a bright red soup made with beets, cabbage, carrots, onions, and often accompanied by sour cream. Its hearty ingredients make it a staple comfort food during colder months.
Tumblr media
2. Pelmeni: These Russian dumplings, filled with minced meat (often pork or beef), are a popular dish served either boiled or fried, typically with butter, vinegar, or sour cream. Pelmeni are perfect for a quick, warming meal.
Tumblr media
3. Blini: Russian pancakes that are similar to crepes. They can be served with both savory fillings like smoked salmon, caviar, or mushrooms, or sweet toppings like jam, honey, and sour cream.
Tumblr media
4. Shchi: A cabbage soup that has been part of the Russian diet for over a thousand years. It can be made with fresh or fermented cabbage and is usually flavored with various meats, onions, and carrots.
Tumblr media
5. Kulebyaka: A traditional Russian pastry filled with salmon, mushrooms, rice, and sometimes hard-boiled eggs. It's a savory pie that dates back to the 18th century and is often served during celebrations.
Tumblr media
6. Pirozhki: Small buns stuffed with a variety of fillings such as meat, potatoes, cabbage, or sweet fillings like fruit. They are either baked or fried and are often enjoyed as street food.
Tumblr media
7. Kvass: A traditional fermented drink made from rye bread. Although it contains a small amount of alcohol due to fermentation, it's considered a non-alcoholic beverage and is very popular, especially in summer.

Russian Food Traditions
Russian meals are often centered around family and community. It is common to have large gatherings for meals, where multiple courses are served. A typical Russian meal may begin with appetizers such as pickled vegetables, smoked fish, or caviar, followed by a soup course, and then a hearty main dish.
Hospitality is a deeply ingrained value in Russian culture. Guests are often offered the best foods in the house, and it's considered impolite to refuse food during a meal. This tradition reflects the communal nature of Russian society, where food serves as a way to connect and celebrate with others.
Russian Tea Culture
Tea holds a special place in Russian life, with a history that dates back to the 17th century. Russians often serve tea in a traditional metal urn called a samovar, which keeps water hot for long periods, allowing for a leisurely tea-drinking experience.
Tea is usually accompanied by sweets, such as pryaniki (spiced honey cookies) or sushki (small, crunchy bread rings). Unlike many cultures that serve tea as a light beverage, Russians tend to enjoy strong, dark tea, often sweetened with sugar, jam, or honey.
Tumblr media
A Changing Food Culture
While traditional Russian cuisine remains a central part of daily life, globalization and modernization have introduced new foods and trends. Today, many urban Russians enjoy a variety of international cuisines, and health-conscious diets are also becoming more popular. Nevertheless, classic Russian dishes, especially those associated with holidays and family gatherings, continue to be cherished.
Conclusion
Russia’s food culture is a testament to its rich history, vast geography, and unique blend of influences. From the warmth of borscht to the delightful crunch of pirozhki, each dish tells a story of resilience, adaptation, and communal spirit. The love for hearty, comforting food, paired with deep-rooted traditions, makes Russian cuisine both unique and deeply satisfying. Whether you're savoring a simple bowl of soup or celebrating with a feast, the flavors of Russia are sure to leave a lasting impression.

nagasaki lantern festival and chinese new year
Tumblr media
Chinese New Year this year fell on January 22nd. I'm thankful to be in an area of Japan with a rich history of Chinese culture, and also to have several close friends with ties to Chinese culture from Singapore, the US, and Hong Kong. Thanks to this, I am able to experience an authentic Chinese New Year each year in Nagasaki. I also began learning Chinese this year (for a trip to Taiwan with friends that was eventually canceled) and found myself become more and more interested in Chinese language and culture. So I would like to share my experience of Chinese New Year this year with you!
A large group of ALTs and community members of Nagasaki prefecture kicked off Chinese New Year eating hotpot and dumplings at a hotpot restaurant just outside Nagasaki city. Some of my friends with Chinese heritage wore traditional clothing, and many of us wore red as well for good fortune. As is the case for many Japanese hotpot and grilling places, we ordered an all-you-can-eat course and enjoying cooking vegetables, meats, and noodles in delicious broth. We also ordered many different kinds of dumplings. It was delicious, but I definitely overstuffed myself. At the end, we all took a group picture together. We booked out at least half the restaurant with our horde of people. It was a very merry time and I was glad to spend it with friends.

The following weekend, I headed into Nagasaki city again with friends for the famous lantern festival. I attended last year as well, but most of the festivities were canceled due to COVID-19, so this year I could finally experience the full glory of the festival, including floats, performances, and food. For more information about the origin and history of the festival, check out my blog post from last year here. I'll just cover the new stuff I exerienced this year in this post.
Of course, the lantern festival's main attraction is its lanterns and floats. Similar to last year, the streets were lined with thousands of lit lanterns to give the city a vibrant feel, but there were also many unique floats on display in the square near Nagasaki's Chinatown. They were mostly made of vibrant colored fabric stretched over metal frames, with lights shining through from the inside. Many of them displayed animals and scenes from traditional Chinese culture.

These floats were particularly impressive. They were made of various porcelain dishes and strung with lights.

The huge square was lined with depictions of various figures, with souvenir shops and food stands below.

Of course, there was plenty of street food. My friend and I ate hashimaki, meaning "chopsticks wrap," a Japanese street food similar in taste to okonomiyaki in which the pancake is wrapped around a chopstick (which makes it easy to eat with your hands) and served on top of an edible rice cracker. It was very delcious!
Tumblr media
After this, we walked to the Koushi-byo Shrine Cultural Museum of China to watch some performances. The popular festival dances include the mask-changing dance and dragon dance.
In the mask-changing dance, a performer dresses in elaborate clothing and wears a mask. Through a special technique that has been kept secret for generations, they are able to skillfully switch out their masks throughout the performance as if by magic. Each mask shows a different face and emotion and is each elaborately decorated. It was really exciting and dynamic.
Tumblr media
After the mask-changing dance, we watched the dragon dance. Dancers each hold a large heavy pole attached to a long dragon. By moving the poles around at different speeds and heights, they can create the illusion of a dragon dancing through the air. It took a lot of skill and strength and the results were breathtaking.
Tumblr media
Following this, we returned to the Chinatown square to watch more performances. A Chinese woman performed a song on a traditional instrument called erhu, meaning "two strings" in Chinese. Like the name implies, it only has two strings and is played with a bow like a violin. The woman sang a song in Chinese while playing and she had a beautiful voice. It was very moving. (This is the only picture I have, so please ignore the thirsty gay caption)
Tumblr media
At this point the sun was setting, and the lanterns were beginning to shine out from the dark, which was very beautiful.

In the evening, they performed another dragon dance, this time in the square. It was very crowded, but there was much more space for the dragons to move and stretch to their full length, and lit up under the glow of the lanterns it was very magical.
Tumblr media
With that, we wandered back through the lantern lit streets of Chinatown and returned home. The festival was fantastic and beautiful, and I definitely plan to come again next year. I'm so happy to have such a great opportunity to experience Chinese culture in this way, and grateful that Nagasaki has such a diverse culture.

Thanks for reading :)
