Tumblr media
Sample of YOLO daily cycling tours:
Δ Madaba – Cycling to Dead Sea Via Mount Nebo: Transfer to Madaba, the City of the Mosaics. Madaba is the most important Christian centre in Jordan and best known for its Byzantine mosaics. The most important of these is the sixth century mosaic of Jerusalem and the Holy Land, which covers the floor of the Greek Orthodox church of St George. This morning we can marvel at its detail and natural colour.
Today’s ride starts with a 4.3mi (7km) mild ascent up to Mount Nebo, reputedly the burial site of Moses. We take a pitstop at the top for a spectacular view over the valley below. From here it’s a fantastic descent to the shores of the Dead Sea. Parts of this descent are quite steep but support will be at hand and you can take your time. We follow the coast on a smooth, paved surface to Suwaima where we can change and take a float in the waters.
You will need to be in Madaba to start the cycling or we will arrange transportation for you to get you there. Distance: 14 KM / Time: 3 hours / Dificulty: Moderate / On Road 100%
Δ Madaba Cycling to Mukaweir:
Within an hour’s drive from Madaba along the picturesque Kings’ Highway, is Mukawir (Machaerus), the hilltop stronghold of Herod the Great. Upon Herod’s death, his son Herod Antipas inherited the fortress and it is from here that he ordered John the Baptist to be beheaded after Salome’s fateful dance of the seven veils. The 1st Century AD Roman-Jewish historian, Josephus, identifies the awe-inspiring site of Machaerus (modern-day Mukawir) as the palace / fort of herod Antipas, who was the Roman-appointed ruler over the region during the life of Jesus Christ. It was here, at this hilltop fortified palace, overlooking the Dead Sea region and the distant hills of Palestine and Israel that herod imprisoned and beheaded John the Baptist after Salome’s fateful dance. “he was beheaded after Salome’s fateful dance” Mathew 14:3-11. Like it’s sister site of Masada on the opposite side of the Dead Sea, Machaerus was also the scene of a Roman siege during the first Jewish revolt against Rome.
you will need to be in Madaba to start the cycling or we will arrange transportation for you to get you there. Distance: 33 KM / Time: 3-4 hours one way. / Dificulty: Moderate / On Road 100%
Δ Petra cycling Wadi Araba through Little Petra:
Today’s ride starts from Petra, Enjoy a stunning 25 kilometre descent, dropping around 900 metres on a little-used winding country road through the dry mountains of Wadi Araba into the lush greenery of the Jordan Valley. The views on the way down are stunning! We will get back to Petra Using the Bus.
you will need to be in Petra to start the cycling or we will arrange transportation for you to get you there. Distance: 25 KM / Time: 3 hours. / Dificulty: Moderate / On Road 50%, Off Road 50%
Δ Dead Sea Cycling to Wadi Mujib (Siq Trail in Wadi Mujib ) – Back to the Dead Sea: Today’s ride starts from Dead Sea, along the eastern shore of the Dead Sea. The road is mostly flat but here and there we encounter long undulations. The views are very special with the Dead Sea on our right with Israel’s Desert visible on the other side of the Dead Sea, and the colourful hills of Moab, interspersed with clusters of palm trees and oases on our left. we stop at Wadi Mujib, proudly called the ‘Grand Canyon of Jordan’. The spectacular chasm is also significant as the historic boundary between the ancient Amorites (to the north) and the Moabites (to the south). Moses is believed to have walked through Wadi Mujib, then known as the Arnon Valley. The King’s Highway crosses the wadi’s upper reaches, while its lower reaches fall within the Mujib Biosphere Reserve – normally accessed from the Dead Sea Hwy.
The Siq Trail is a popular hiking route within the Wadi Mujib Nature Reserve, located along the eastern shore of the Dead Sea. The trail takes you through a narrow, deep gorge, offering a unique and breathtaking experience. As you start your hike, you’ll be immediately immersed in the natural beauty of Wadi Mujib. Towering sandstone cliffs surround you, creating a dramatic and awe-inspiring landscape. The sunlight filters through the cracks, creating fascinating patterns on the rock walls. One of the highlights of the Siq Trail is the opportunity to wade through water. The trail follows a riverbed, and at times, you’ll find yourself walking in shallow water. Be prepared to get wet and wear appropriate water shoes or sandals that provide a good grip.
you will need to be in the Dead Sea to start the cycling or we will arrange transportation for you to get you there. This daily cycling can be done during this period (01. April – 31. October) Distance: 35 KM / Time: 3-4 hours. / Dificulty: Moderate / On Road 100%

The Upper Room in Mount Zion
Our tour bus was making its way back towards Jerusalem to explore the hillside town of Mount Zion, a short walk outside of the Zion Gate.  During the time of Jesus, it was located within the city walls of Jerusalem as noted on the Madaba Map until the Byzantine walls were erected in the 16th century. Mount Zion is most known as the location of the Upper Room where Jesus and His disciples took…

Discover the Beauty of the Jordan River on a Private Tour
The Jordan River, steeped in history and spirituality, is a breathtaking destination that holds significance for people of various faiths and travelers alike. Flowing through the heart of the Middle East, the Jordan River weaves a tale of ancient civilizations, natural wonders, and serene landscapes. A private tour along the Jordan River is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in its beauty, explore sacred sites, and create lasting memories. In this article, we will delve into the enchanting experiences that await you on a private tour of the Jordan River.
The Significance of the Jordan River
The Jordan River has immense religious importance, particularly for Christians, Jews, and Muslims. According to the Bible, it was the site of numerous biblical events, including the baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist. For this reason, many pilgrims flock to the riverbanks to participate in baptismal ceremonies and seek spiritual rejuvenation. Walking in the footsteps of history, visitors can connect with their faith on a deeper level.
An Array of Stunning Landscapes
As you journey along the Jordan River, you will encounter an extraordinary array of landscapes that showcase the region’s natural beauty. From the lush greenery of the upper Jordan Valley to the arid and rugged terrain further south, the river’s surroundings are a visual delight. The river’s meandering path offers opportunities for breathtaking panoramic views and postcard-worthy photographs.
Engaging Wildlife and Biodiversity
The Jordan River Valley is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, making it an eco-paradise for nature enthusiasts. Birdwatchers will be thrilled to spot over 400 species of birds, including the iconic kingfisher and the rare Syrian Serin. The river’s waters also support various fish species, and the surrounding vegetation provides habitat for many mammals and reptiles. A private tour allows you to explore these hidden gems with the help of experienced guides who are well-versed in the local ecology.
Exploring Ancient Ruins and Archaeological Sites
For history buffs and curious minds, a private tour along the Jordan River opens up a world of archaeological treasures. The region is dotted with ancient ruins, some of which date back thousands of years. The ancient city of Jericho, for instance, is believed to be one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. The well-preserved mosaic floors at Madaba, along with the crusader castle at Ajloun, offer glimpses into the past and reveal the area’s rich historical tapestry.
Floating in the Dead Sea
No trip to the Jordan River is complete without a visit to the Dead Sea, a natural wonder that draws visitors from around the globe. Located at the lowest point on Earth, the Dead Sea’s high salt content allows bathers to float effortlessly on its surface, providing a unique and therapeutic experience. The mineral-rich mud found on the shores is also renowned for its therapeutic properties and is used in various spa treatments.
An Authentic Cultural Experience
One of the highlights of a private tour is the opportunity to interact with local communities and experience their vibrant culture. From traditional Bedouin villages to bustling marketplaces, the Jordan River region offers a chance to witness the unique customs, crafts, and cuisine of the people who call this area home. Engaging with locals and learning about their daily lives adds a special dimension to your journey.

Top 5 historical places to visit in Jordan in 2023
Tumblr media
Jordan is a country rich in history and culture, with ancient sites that date back thousands of years. It's no wonder that it is a popular tourist attraction among tourists looking to explore the wonders of the Middle East. If you're planning a trip to Jordan in 2023, you won't want to miss out on these top 5 historical places to visit.
First up is Petra, also known as the Rose City. This ancient city is one of the most famous historical sites in Jordan, and for good reason. It boasts impressive architecture dating back to the 4th century BC, and its iconic Treasury building is instantly recognizable. Visitors can explore the city's remarkable buildings, including the Monastery and the Royal Tombs, as well as take in the stunning natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.
To get to Petra, you'll need to make your way to the town of Wadi Musa, which serves as the gateway to the city. Once you arrive, you'll need to purchase a ticket to enter the site. The ticket includes access to all of the main attractions in Petra, including the Treasury, the Monastery, and the Royal Tombs.
If you're looking to learn more about the history of Petra, you can hire a local guide to take you on a tour of the site. Guides are available for hire at the entrance to Petra, and they can provide you with fascinating insights into the city's history and architecture.
Another tourist destination in Jordan is Jerash, located just 50 km north of Amman. This ancient Roman city is one of the best-preserved in the world, and it offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into life in the Roman Empire. The city was founded in the 4th century BC, but it reached its peak during the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD, when it boasted a population of over 20,000 people.
Visitors to Jerash can explore the ancient streets, temples, and amphitheaters of the city, which have been remarkably well-preserved over the centuries. Some of the highlights of the site include the Temple of Artemis, the South Theater, and the Nymphaeum.
Like Petra, Jerash offers visitors the opportunity to hire a local guide to take them on a tour of their respective tourist destinations. Guides can provide you with in-depth information about the history and culture of the city, as well as answer any questions you may have.
Moving on, we come to Madaba, a small city located just 30 km south of Amman. Madaba is known for its impressive collection of Byzantine mosaics, which are among the finest in the world. The most famous of these mosaics is the Madaba Map, which is the oldest surviving map of the Holy Land and depicts Jerusalem and other biblical sites in great detail.
Visitors to Madaba can explore the city's many churches and museums, which are home to some of the most impressive mosaics in the country. One of the highlights of the city is the Church of St. George, which is home to the Madaba Map.
In addition to its rich history, Madaba is also known for its lively markets and delicious cuisine. Be sure to sample some of the local dishes, such as mansaf, a traditional Jordanian dish made with lamb and yogurt sauce.
Last but not the least, we come to Wadi Rum, a vast desert valley located in southern Jordan. This natural wonder offers visitors the opportunity to explore stunning landscapes and historical sites, and it's a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the great outdoors.
In conclusion, Jordan is a country steeped in history and culture, with an abundance of ancient sites that offer a fascinating glimpse into the past. Whether you're interested in exploring the remarkable architecture of Petra, the well-preserved ruins of Jerash, the stunning Byzantine mosaics of Madaba, or the natural beauty of Wadi Rum, Jordan has something to offer everyone. A trip to Jordan in 2023 is sure to be an unforgettable experience, full of adventure, history, and culture. So pack your bags and get ready to explore this amazing country!

Jordan - Day 4
Today was another early start, and with a late finish promises to be one of the longest days of the tour.
We left the hotel at 7 again, checking out this time, and headed south towards the first stop of the day: Mount Nebo. Supposedly this is the burial site of Moses – though they haven’t found the tomb if so – and the little monastery on the summit provides a fantastic view out over the Jordan Valley, with a glimpse of the Dead Sea in the south and Jericho and Jerusalem in the distance. The monastery church also houses some beautiful mosaics, largely geometric designs but some of people and animals as well. There were also a lot of dogs wandering around, most of which were probably strays but I also spotted one wearing an impressive anti-wolf collar. We were also sharing the site with another tour group, all of whom were wearing matching hats and had a poor grasp of tourist etiquette.
After Mount Nebo we drove a short distance to a local project supported by the tour company: a mosaic workshop and gallery run by local disabled people. The work they’re producing is really stunning, with intricate designs composed of incredibly tiny tesserae, and priced to match; the bigger pieces were well out of my price range, but I got a small coaster with a design of a camel on it.
For more mosaics, we moved on for a quick stop in the city of Madaba, the home of Jordan’s biggest Christian community (mostly Orthodox, I gathered). We parked at the visitor centre and, after a short coffee break at a local shop, walked up to St George’s Church to see the oldest surviving map of the Holy Land. The mosaic is somewhat fragmented now but what remains is amazing. You can clearly pick out details like Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, and our next stop for the day, the town of Kerak.
It’s a bit of a drive from Madaba to Kerak, so we picked up some lunch to go from a local restaurant. These were nominally falafel wraps, which I thought I might have liked, but the unfortunate addition of mayonnaise and chopped vegetables on top of the falafel made for a Bad Texture. I nibbled some of the flatbread instead.
Kerak was worth the drive, though. The town’s castle sits on a rocky summit near the highest point of the settlement, and while it’s largely in ruins now the walls are still very impressive. It owes its fame mainly to its use as a Crusader base, when it fell under siege from Saladin and his forces, but has been held by several different powers over its history. The stone itself is also interesting, with fossilised shells and nodules of flint among the limestone. I saw a lizard, but it ran off before I got a photo.
Back on the bus for another drive south, out of the northern hills of Jordan and across the wide, much flatter expanse of the desert. The land there is much less green, without much to see but mile after mile of sand and rock, with the occasional nomad group camped by the roadside grazing their goats and camels on whatever tough scrub they could find.
Eventually we made it to the final stop of the day, reaching the land of the Nabataeans and parking at Little Petra. While, as the name implies, not as big as Actual Petra, it’s still an amazing sight. Millennia of weathering have worn the cream-coloured sandstone of the canyon into otherworldly shapes, giving the impression that the Nabataeans really just needed to add a few finishing touches to the stone, carving clever channels to guide water to the caravanserai. The canyon was smoky from incense, tea braziers and shisha pipes, which didn’t smell great but did make for some atmospheric lighting at sunset approached. There were a few tourists who could have used a reminder that a rocky defile too narrow for more than single-file passage is not the best spot to stop for a selfie.
We left Little Petra at about 6 and drove on to the town of Wadi Musa – which as far as I can tell basically exists to provide tourist services for Petra – where we checked in to the Seven Wonders Hotel. Not as fancy as the name makes it sound, but our room is clean and comfy enough, if not particularly quiet: it faces onto the main road and isn’t exactly soundproofed.
I’ve really been looking forward to tomorrow, so hopefully I can get enough sleep to enjoy it.
