News - After much waiting, Hulu has finally started listing multiple Macross anime titles to be made available to stream in the US on January 13th, 2025! Disney+ (which owns Hulu) originally announced back in March of 2024 that it would be streaming most of the Macross franchise "worldwide by the end of 2024". While other territories like Canada have had access to the titles for a few months now, it's release in the US was delayed for unknown reasons. But starting on Jan 13th, the following titles will be made available for US streaming:

As of January 13, 2025, Hulu has added a significant selection of #Macross #Anime for U.S. audiences. The lineup features classics like The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Flash Back 2012 and #MacrossPlus, alongside newer titles such as Macross Delta: Zettai LIVE!!!!! and Macross Frontier: Labyrinth of Time. This follows a 2021 agreement between Big West, Studio Nue, and Harmony Gold USA for global Macross distribution and future collaboration on Macross and Robotech projects. In 2024, Disney+ began streaming Macross titles in Canada under its "Star" brand, reflecting the franchise's expanding global reach.

AnimEigo to Launch Kickstarter Campaign for Macross II Anime Release

AnimEigo's Robert Woodhead announced at the Animazement event last week that AnimEigo will launch a Kickstarter campaign for the release of the Super Dimensional Fortress Macross II original video anime film this summer. The story is set eight decades after Space War I and follows a civilian news reporter who meets a mysterious singer from a previously unknown alien race. Studio Nue began the Macross franchise in 1982 with The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, a television anime series featuring the themes of a love triangle, music, and transforming fighter jets. Studio Nue worked with advertising agency Bigwest and anime studio Tatsunoko Production as production partners. The franchise spawned three other television series (Macross 7, Macross Frontier, and Macross Delta), several theatrical films (beginning with The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?), and several video series (including Macross II, Macross Plus, Macross Dynamite 7 and Macross Zero). Macross Delta aired from April to September 2016, after a trailer for the first episode in 2015. Yeah jp fans were hunting down literal scraps of info from interviews, supplementary material, offhanded comments and so on in order to piece together events that occurred between episodes or off screen that was simply not at all covered in-series. The dedication they had to the characters (who I did find very charming mind) that it was worth going through that trouble was very impressive. The series itself was also unclear about how much time passed between key events so they mapped that too.

This is truly the Macross Delta of Gundam. Characters that are fun enough to watch that it even becomes popular among non-series fans but fans who are used to more substantially woven plots are left unfulfilled so it feels overrated by general audiences. At least that was my experience with Delta.
