i understand that in 2024 people feel icky about facebook/mark zuckerberg and shipping these people but as someone that Was There in 2010/2011/2012+ im BAFFLED by people thinking it's strange lmaooo im like "what do you MEAN you think it's weird?? it was the best fanfiction ever written!!! it's not about the real zuckerberg!!! it's about the characters that happen to share their names!!" (also i need andrew to stop talking about jesse because every time he mentions jesse he pulls me right back to 2011 and I CANT... i can't do it...)(also i think of jesse's weird era dating his costar, then being shunned by the general public for being "rude" in that one interview, plus lex luthor, plus getting back with his gf and having kids and moving to god knows where...... also makes me go 🥴) BUT I DIGRESS
it’s like when you grow up your whole life thinking the way your family eats Mac n cheese is normal and then you go to college and replicate it and your friends are like “you fucking what?!” At which point you are forced to consider if anyone is normal about anything. Like these people are right. My prev anon is right! It is icky. But also it was a different time. It was a different life. The fanfic was literally unparalleled. Changed me on an atomic level.
I confess to having not kept up with Jesse’s career…has he denounced W00dy Allen yet?
Also yes for Andrew like literally every time this happens or he says he wants Ocean Vuong to be his wife I totally lose it 😭

Things to Come
It is the year 2024: Amazon wants to have wholly owned company towns to persuade poor people to enter into indentured servitude. There is an election between an old guy who's quietly doing a generally good job, and a very loud serial rapist conman who's being taken to court for his many crimes including treason. Somehow there is still a debate as to who will win.
It is the year 2030: There are now four Amazon towns powered off grid by Tesla batteries. There is no news in or out. People are starting to notice this. Jeff Bezos and Elon musk are having a public fight over who owns Mars. Bezos brought up Twitter and Elon's announced X-Mart a direct competitor to Amazon. The Cybertruck's been recalled again, this time after the 50th person was cooked alive by the burning battery pack, which also locked all the doors.
It is 2040: Elon's died on Mars ina. 8ft cabin from every cancer known to man and three that are getting named after him. Apparently he declared that radiation shielding wasn't needed because Mars is too far from the sun for radiation to reach it. Jeff Bezos freeze dried corpse is still circling hte earth as of two years ago. The world watches with glee as Amazon is torn to shreds by ten thousand parties all of whom are laying claim to the 3 trillion dollars held by the company. Nobody is trying to take over Space-X or Teslas due to the historic 1.4 trillion dollars in fines and debt they collectively owe. Mark Zuckerberg is replacing all his organic parts with life support machines to keep his brain alive until a perfect way to upload himself to the metaverse is available. The metaverse is still shit and has only 1008 concurrent users.
Is tis 2042: Donald Trump has choked to death in his cell. The rumour is it was corpophilia: This will persist even after a FOIA reveals it was a cold two day old Big Mac smuggled in to him. The world rejoices. There is still a 24/7 video feed of Elon musk slowly mummifying in the remains of X-Mars. Questions regarding the rest of the colonists are answered when a Marsbot finally accesses the dome and finds that Elon turned off the oxygen after the twenty three women in the first wave of colonists refused to breed with him. There were twenty eight colonists and four of them had received vasectomies two months before liftoff. They had to take an axe to the thing Zuckerberg because it wouldn't stop screaming. In the UK, all politicians from the last 30 years have been placed in Wadsworth prison and are tried and guillotined daily. The Scottish won't stop laughing. The Irish have been drunk of their tits for the last six months. The Welsh have banned speaking English. This is not going well but they get much respect for taking a stand.
2050: Republicans are now legal to be hunted for food if you have a bow hunting license. Guns are finally restricted. Republicans state that this will result in a civil war. Gun crime and school shootings are down 1000%. The most popular book in the US is "Eating the Rich" a combination how-to on bow hunting, butchering and serving human flesh. The rest of the world is watching this with interest. The Russian federation is taking special notes. This year 80 clones of Vladimir Putin are euthanised in their tubes and eaten.
2055: There is no civil war and surprisingly few instances of Kuru. Texas has built a wall around the entire state to keep "the left" out. All jokes about marrying your cousin are now attributed to Texas, now known as the Lone Surname State. They have still managed not to secede.
2060: Gender is abolished, not through decree but by common agreement of the third generation brought up by Millenials, Gen Z and Gen Blue: The Green Generation. Cities are walkable. It is considered weird if you cannot walk to the shops in bare feet safely for at least half a year. Air quality has improved, winters are returning. Urban deer keep grasses down and provide local meat. Men and women wear dresses, biological sex can now be changed trivially with around 60 months of treatment. Marriage is now merely a fun tradition and churches all pay tax after the 2056 ruling that if they cannot provide evidence for their god that they have no more claim to universal truth than a social club. World hunger is solved by levying back taxes on jsut three megachurches. Summers are brutal but can be managed by passive cooling, and thermal gradient power generators for cooling.
2070: Everyone has UBI. Work is 4 hours a day, 4 days a week for most people. Many people have two or three jobs, not for money, but because they have diverse interests. Most companies are profit sharing or Co-operatives. The biggest global trauma is the English wearing socks with sandals. Global temperatures have dropped. The kids are kind and bemused by their aging relatives. Texas is still Republican and angrily making memes about "This is the future the left want" that are still really cool and fun looking suggestions. The southen US has replaced it's statues with Dolly Parton, who's revered as a saint. 40% of men have great tits. The President of the USA is catgirl. Things are going to be OK. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the day the last Boomer died and everyone's going to get their grill out. Life's good: We're going to to be OK.

silly cheese rat! the public must know! what r ur thoughts and opinions on The Social Network (2010, by David Fincher)?
Almost forgot to reply to this, whoopsie!!
My answer is an unspectacular one: I've never seen it! I don't think I'll ever watch it either, since it's abt Mark Zuckerberg and I've never rlly cared abt him.
When it comes to tech company co-founders, I'm solely a Steve Jobs, Bill Gates & Paul Allen girlie </3 But I also eat up anything I can find abt former Apple CEOs John Sculley, Michael Spindler and Mike Markkula, and original Mac Team members Susan Kare and Andy Hertzfeld.

So, as Ubisoft continues to be the most hated gaming company with leaders saying bullshit, and with the continuity of subscription services with to destroy propriety, I tried to imagine what the dystopian future of online consumption in the next decades.
This is just a theory
Ubisoft can now prevent you from playing a game, even physical, if you having logged in with your Ubisoft profile, if you haven't pay the subscription service or have no access to the Internet, even thought you bought the game $60
The European Commission will say this is bullshit and will add a clause so the customer could always have an option to buy and possess a game
However, gaming companies will use a vulnerability in this law to have the possibility to sell a game with subscription starting at $40, and a free-of-subscription game starting at $250. (I see you going for that, GTA6) Both are the same game, you just choose how you want to be fucked.
Adobe, which is subscription only, in untouched by this law since they don't sell games. Microsoft will start doing the same shit for Windows.
Apple will say that Microsoft is disrespectful toward customers, and will refuse to have subscription services. However, their new laptop will cost $100,000. But it's only a one time payment!
Linux will release a public manual on how to use Linux for Windows and Mac users and redirect them to the distribution that fits both the best. At least 60% of Windows users will drop it for Linux.
Spotify and YouTube will only allow people to listen to musics or watch videos if they subscribe. They will also raise their prices.
Same for Facebook. Zuckerberg will close Facebook the next week because nobody is paying it and ads won't be accessible anymore
People will touch grass
There will be a huge separation of interest and culture between those who pay subscription and those who refuses it.
Linux will start having free sharing softwares and platforms (powered by Blender) for videos, musics, art, etc... However, like Wikipedia, there will be a constant reminder that it costs a lot to keep this going and people should give $3 every two years to keep it going. There will be a gauge showing if the donation are enough or not. Since people don't pay anymore for subscription, it will be cheap in comparison of the old times and it will stay in the green.
People won't be interested in the popular business (only a few will watch Marvel on Disney+), and people will actually buy new things online from newfound talents. The small artists will become the norm.
Wait wasn't it supposed to be a dystopia?

The Musk Files - Weekend Hobbies
Lora Kelley • The Atlantic
Musk is mainstreaming new standards of behavior, and some of his peers are joining him in misguided acts of masculine aggression and populist appeals.
MIKE ISAAC and Ryan Mac • The New York Times
The day after Elon Musk challenged Mark Zuckerberg on social media to “a cage match” last month, Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, received a text.
Tumblr media
I’m not a fan of Mark Zuckerberg but I think he’ll knock Musk on his butt pretty quickly, if he has the guts to step into the ring.
Matt Binder and Matt Binder • Mashable
Twitter’s new API may now cost tens of thousands of dollars per month, but the service being provided to its customers appears to be worse than ever.
It’s really sad to see what was once a decent service turn into a junker of a service.
Oh, BTW, that API was the way to limit folks from overwhelming your servers. If the API was still open, or cheap enough, folks wouldn’t be scraping the site and you could’ve controlled API access by throttling just that for bad actors.
Once again. Stellar job.
Tumblr media
There’s nothing better than a self own! Nice work Space Karen. You DDOS’ed yourself. Genius! 😂
The Verge
Elon Musk continues to blame Twitter’s new limitations on AI companies scraping “vast amounts of data” as he announced new “temporary” limits on how many posts people can read.
Tumblr media
This kind of checks out. Genius indeed. More like grifter with too much money.
Tumblr media
He’s not really killing Twitter, he’s just making it a really crappy platform. He has so much money the thing will probably keep running for years and years to come but it’ll remain a crummy experience.
I’m a big biased because I have my own instance but Mastodon is a very good — not Twitter — experience. I’ve heard technically savvy people say it’s hard to figure out. I didn’t have that experience but I did not like the default web UI experience. It defaulted to a three way split screen with views of different data. I was able to fix that to be more like Twitter in settings then it looked and felt much better.
If you follow the rich and famous and are into shitposting then Mastodon might not be for you. Each server in the federation has its own set of user rules to abide by and if you break them you’ll be blocked or your server could be defederated, which is a very bad thing.
If you’re a techie I’d encourage you to consider starting your own instance with friends. It’s what I did with Curmudgeon Cafe and it’s been wonderful. I use masto.host to host my instance and I’m sure there are others. More smaller instances are a good thing.
If you’re on iOS there are really great iOS client apps for you to choose from; Mona, Ivory, Toot!, and Ice Cubes are really solid client applications and I will hop between them from time to time to see how they’ve improved.

Xeroxed: The Stolen Truth
Tumblr media
When Pablo Picasso says, “Good artists copy, great artists steal”, who knows he is actually talking about the reality of the corporate world. Many companies claim that they focus on innovation and bringing change in the world with their unique ideas. But have you ever checked what is happening behind the scenes? The world has witnessed many cases in history that prove that businesses clone each other’s ideas.
It is always easier for the company to work on already existing ideas by tweaking them a little as it saves the time and money that goes into researching and implementing the idea. It is okay to take inspiration from some great ideas. But do you think it is right to clone someone else’s idea and then earn millions of dollars from it? Today, we are going to talk about some big companies whose core concepts were based on stolen ideas. Let’s take a look at some of the most successful companies around the world that are extreme cases of copy and paste.
Facebook
Tumblr media
A platform that brought a whole new revolution to the world, the most iconic social media site, Facebook, faced backlash when the Winklevoss twins accused Mark Zuckerberg of stealing their idea.
To give you an overview of the entire case, let’s take you back to those days when the story started. The Winklevoss twins claimed that Mark agreed to help them with their website. But instead of helping them, Mark started delaying their project and began working on his own site whose idea is heavily influenced by his classmates’ site. The Facebook Founder was infamously known for his other site “Facemash” which was a clone version of Harvard’s site “Hot or Not”.
However, in his defence, Mark clarified that he began working on Facebook’s idea even before he was involved in the Winklevoss twins’ projects. But his defence did not convince many because of the inextricable similarities between both ideas. In the end, Facebook settled the legal case of theft sued by Winklevoss’s brother for millions of dollars.
McDonald’s
Tumblr media
Do you know that the name of the Founder of the famous fast food chain, McDonald’s is Ray Kroc? Yes, this is right. Now you all are wondering that if the Founder’s name is Ray Kroc then why did he name it McDonald’s? Let us tell you the interesting story behind the popular fast food chain.
The original idea of McDonald’s belongs to two brothers named Dick and Mac McDonald. The brothers’ duo started a hamburger stall in California that attracted the interest of Ray Kroc. He offered the brother an idea to turn their business into a franchise. As the franchise got popular, Ray tricked the brothers into selling him the entire business.
According to the reports, the agreement was made between the McDonald brothers and Ray before commencing the business. Ray agreed to the terms that the brothers keep running their original store and also Ray has to pay 1% of the revenue to them. But as soon as the fast food franchise turned into a successful business, Ray deceived the brothers and put the original McDonald’s out of business.
Instagram
Tumblr media
If you are a regular social media user then you must have noticed that Instagram and Snapchat have one very common feature i.e., stories. A feature that allows the user to upload any photo or video which will disappear in 24 hours. But have you ever thought about who copied whose idea?
Instagram copied the idea of Snapchat when the platform experienced a downfall in users. Because of the Story feature of the app, social media users moved to the platform in huge numbers. After seeing the popularity of the stories feature, Instagram also launched a similar feature in 2016. The trick did wonders for the company and in just eight months after rolling out the feature Instagram engaged an additional 250 million users.
The CEO of Instagram admitted the fact that the stories feature is similar to Snapchat. He also added, “but it doesn’t mean that it is blatantly copying Snapchat”.
Google Earth
Tumblr media
Google Earth is one of the biggest technological miracles done by Google. But only a very few people know that the idea of Google Earth is copied. As soon as the tech giant launched its new feature Google Earth, it immediately received a lawsuit for copying the algorithm of Germany-based Art + com.
The company claimed that during the trip to Silicon Valley, the source code of Terravision leaked and went into the wrong hands. And the next thing they knew was Google released Google Earth which ran on the exact same algorithm. Art + Com approached Google for compensation for copying their ideas. In 2006, the tech giant was ready to negotiate the price but the amount offered was too low according to Art + Com.
At last, they filed a lawsuit against Google in 2014. However, Google’s lawyers won the case and the jury of the US Federal Circuit Court announced their judgement in the favour of Google.  The trial ended by concluding that Google did not violate any patent laws.

[ad_1] Apple reports first drop in quarterly revenue since early 2019, as China’s zero-COVID policy disrupted iPhone production.Tech giants Apple and Google have reported lower-than-expected revenue and profits for the last three months of 2022, as online retail behemoth Amazon warned of uncertainty in the months ahead. Apple, the world’s biggest company in terms of market value, blamed falling sales of its flagship iPhone on production disruptions in China. Apple’s revenue was $117.1bn for the three months that ended December, down 5.4 percent from a year ago. Profit after tax was $30bn, but both sales and profit were below analysts’ expectations. China is the main manufacturing centre for Apple’s iPhones and the strict curbs imposed in line with Beijing’s zero-COVID policy, which left some phone-making factories locked down, seriously affected the company’s ability to deliver exports for the major year-end holiday season. China has now relaxed the policy but anxiety over the state of the global economy remains. Central banks in the United States and elsewhere have been raising interest rates to rein in inflation fuelled by sky-high energy prices, but consumers are also tightening their belts as the cost of living rises and wages stagnate. With Google also disclosing a decline in October-December sales and profit, Investing.com analyst Jesse Cohen said it was clear there were “several challenges the tech sector faces amid the current economic climate of slowing growth and elevated inflation”. Alphabet, Google’s parent company, blamed a slump in advertising sales for the disappointing performance, although, even with the decline, its profit still amounted to $13.6bn. It was only the second quarterly fall since the search engine giant went public in 2004. “It’s clear that after a period of significant acceleration in digital spending during the pandemic, the macroeconomic climate has become more challenging,” Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in a call with analysts. Tech companies including Google and Amazon have announced plans to fire more than 50,000 people combined in recent weeks, blaming over-hiring during the COVID pandemic when many people went online for work and entertainment. Apple said it had no similar plans. “We manage for the long term,” Apple CEO Tim Cook told analysts during a conference call. “We invest in innovation and people.” Amazon, which said recently it would sack more than 18,000 staff, reported sales of $149.2bn for the three months that ended December but profits slumped to near zero from $14.32bn in the same period the year before. “In the short term, we face an uncertain economy, but we remain quite optimistic about the long-term opportunities for Amazon,” said CEO Andy Jassy. Investors’ disappointment at tech earnings came a day after Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, reported a 1 percent year-on-year drop in sales for the last three months of 2022, the first time since the company went public in 2012. But as the social media giant announced that the number of daily users on Facebook had hit two billion for the first time, CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg said he was upbeat about the future. Apple also signalled rosier times ahead. Cook indicated Apple’s supply headaches were over, saying “production is now back where we want it to be”. In another positive sign, Apple disclosed that it now has more than 2 billion iPhones, iPads, Macs and other devices in active use for the first time. That is likely to help the company sell more digital subscriptions and advertising, helping drive long-term revenue growth. [ad_2] Source link
