Responsibilities

– Process and analyse sequencing data from Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) platforms using high-throughput genotyping / sequencing data

– Generating and performing genetic and genomic analyses using high-throughput genotyping / sequencing and phenotypic data for candidate gene discovery and marker development

– Use a variety of bioinformatics tools to analyze and manipulate resequencing and transcriptomic data

– Conducting expression studies using RNA-Seq data, gene ontology and metabolic pathway analysis

– Processing, analyzing, and archiving genomic data sets, conducting analyses, interpreting findings, and compiling of results and writing reports

– Any other work assigned by the supervisor 

Requirement

– Master’s degree in the area of Computational Genomics/Computational Biology/Biotechnology/Bioinformatics or similar with NET/GATE qualification and two years of research experience

– Preference will be given to candidates with working experience in genomics and next-generation sequencing.

– Proficient in any one of the programming/scripting in languages: Python, Perl, PHP, R, Shell Scripting. Must be comfortable working on Linux and CLI environment

– Good team player in cross-functional environments with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Prior work experience in R programming language, machine learning, dynamic/interactive database development, large scale data visualization, RNAseq data analysis and along with demonstrated ability of phenomics/transcriptomics-based database development is preferred. Some part of the project work will also involve using GWAS, SNP analysis, QTL mapping & gene discovery

Project Details

The project involves screening chickpea germplasm or dry root rot disease, fungal taxonomic characterization, imaging/disease scoring in both laboratory/greenhouse and field conditions.

Terms and Conditions:

4. For Project Associate-I and Junior Research Fellow (JRF) the upper age limit as mentioned above will be as on (Dated 19th November 2020) i.e. last date for receipt of emailed applications which is relaxable up to 5 years in the case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes/persons with disabilities and OBC candidates.

Intended outcomes of this project include the development of open-source machine learning tools for various regulatory network Inference, creation of an India specific omics database as well as open-source tools for integrated pipeline analysis for oral cancer, as well as establishing molecular signatures for a clear demarcation of healthy and cancerous tissue in patients with oral cancer for developing new techniques for surgery.

No. of Positions: Two (1 JRF + 1 Research Associate)

Fellowship: JRF INR 25,000 + 20% HRA per month

Research Associate INR 36,000 + 20% HRA per month

Duration: Initially for one year and may be extended annually after performance evaluation till the end of the project.

Essential Qualifications:

For JRF: M.Sc.or M.Tech. in Biotechnology/ Life Sciences/ Computer Science with at least 60% marks along with GATE/NET or any national level JRF eligibility test qualified.

For Research Associate: Ph.D. in bioinformatics or machine learning with a keen interest to apply machine learning techniques in biological data analysis.

Desirable: Experience in running bioinformatics software as well as coding in python highly desirable.
