All of this!! One of the things I love about this kiss so much is the looks have so much unsaid meaning, but it allows the interpretation to be open. I don’t believe Millennium was their first kiss, maybe first NYE or public kiss, but it doesn’t matter because the feeling and beautiful way it’s captured just give us a glimpse into their private inner world.

I love the Millennium kiss for the way it is so gentle and happy and calm. There is no urgency behind it, it’s not a revelation, it’s not suddenly being hit with bottled-up feelings.

He looks at her and he loves her, utterly and completely. He doesn’t see the point of putting any walls up in this moment. He lets himself feel it because . . . because it’s what he’s feeling. There’s no “Oh god, I have to kiss her.” It’s: consequences be damned, this is the woman he loves and she’s right there next to him and his heart no longer sees the point of not doing this.

And she welcomes it so easily. There is barely a moment of surprise on her face. She’s ready. This is what they have always been to each other and there is no hesitation, no moment of “Okay, so this is happening now.” It just is. She has loved him for so long and in her heart she already knows that there’s no use denying it. If he leans in for a kiss, then yes, she’s going to kiss him back.

I love the way this kiss is done – the way all the sounds of the new year’s celebration fade into the background and the camera narrows the world down to only them, like nothing else exists. It captures the gentle energy of the moment so nicely. Because what has prevented them from doing this has always mostly been external factors, private and professional, but not emotional. But there are none here. They’re literally being faded out. It’s just them. It’s honestly perfectly done. Including the acting; you see them giving in to the moment, and I especially love the change of her smile after the kiss, going from “wow, this really happened,” to “did this really just happen?” It’s art. Everything about it.

This moment is not about being in love, it’s about loving each other. There is a difference. There is none of the fluttery excitement about being in love, the elation of it, the fantasy of what could be, the need, the straining towards each other. This is not their hearts jumping in their chests, their breaths hitching, their palms tingling with the need to reach out. This is quiet and soft. They already know. This is not “I need you like I need air,” this is not “I think of you every second of every day and miss you like crazy when I don’t see you for more than an hour.” This is “Did you know that I love you? Because I do.” This is “Nothing feels more right than being here with you right now.” This is exactly what they say to each other after the kiss: “The world didn’t end.” “No, it didn’t.”

It is not a storm. It’s the atmosphere of a gentle summer evening, nowhere to be but with each other. Life goes on, and it still will if they allow themselves to kiss, to admit that this is what they’ve wanted all along. Maybe, in a way, it is a revelation after all. It’s realizing that there’s no point in pretending.

They are truly happy in this moment. There is no doubt, there is no question about anything. This is who they are. This is pure and unfaltering love. Quiet, calm; the only motivation being that they want to. And that is what makes it so good: the only reason for it being “I can’t not tell you that this is the way I love you.” Of all their kisses, this is the happiest one. Their walls are down, and the world didn’t end.

Hey! I'm writing a series with a character who is a sniper. She is a private hire and ends up meeting someone who works with shorter ranged guns and weapons.

I'm just wondering how they would differ when killing someone and what are the tells of each weapon. I want to make it clear that the weapons are different but I'm not sure what those differences are

So, something that stuck out to me originally, when reading this is, most snipers are going to have a close range PDW. Whether that's just their sidearm or something more substantial, they'd need to be proficient with something in close quarters if it comes to that.

Now, the hard part about answering this question in the abstract is that, almost everything associated with firearms is extremely date sensitive.

For example, if your CQB/CQC character was originally trained sometime in the late 90s to late 2000s (in a Western country), they'd have likely encountered Center Axis Re-lock. Outside of those 20 years, then that style hadn't seen widespread adoption, or had fallen out of favor.

For some specific film examples, Vincent (Tom Cruise) from Collateral (2004) would have been working as an assassin for at least a decade by the time we see him in the film. We can make this assessment based on the way he handles the USP, and then compare to CQC training. His one-handed disarm and execute he uses in the alley puts his training sometime in the 80s to 90s at the earliest, while his lack of CAR in close quarters tells you he didn't have Western military or law enforcement training after the mid-90s.

Another film example that might surprise you is John Wick (Keanu Reeves). In those films he exhibits CQC training that suggests he still in the military less than 15 years before the events of the first film. Except his CAR stances are actually a little sloppy (which is unusual for Reeves), which suggests that Wick may have observed others using the stance, and then improvised a version of it for his own use. Meaning you can't really estimate when his combat training occurred. (This might also might explain why he's a bit sloppy about when he switches between Weaver and CAR.) By the way, it is quite difficult to pick this out. It took a few experts dinging on the first Wick film before I really started picking up on the issues with Reeves' technique. And I haven't seen anyone else draw the conclusion that Wick is probably self-taught in CAR. (This was corrected for the later films, as Reeves did get proper training in CAR in preparation for the second film.)

In particular, this is a singular example, but there are a lot of things someone can do that will inform you about their background and training. This starts with weapon selection. Things like their preferred sidearm and primary can be very insightful. People tend to go in one of two directions with firearms. Either, they're very willing to adapt and experiment, or they'll find something they're comfortable with and hone in with that specific firearm.

For example, is your sniper carrying around a Remington 700, or something like an MSR or AWM? Both are legitimate answers, but they say very different things about how your character approaches their area of expertise. Similarly, are they carrying a 1911 pattern pistol, or something more modern, like an HK USP or FN P45?

If your sniper is carrying around an AMT Hardballer, and your CQC specialist is carrying around a P45t, your CQC specialist has twice the magazine capacity. They can afford to dump rounds into someone until they stop twitching. Where as a Hardballer is “just” an extremely well made 1911. Their kills are going to look different, but it's a function of the weapon they chose.

Without knowing what they're carrying, it's very hard to answer definitively how their kills will look.

If it was me, kitting out for CQC in a situation where I'd need to hide the weapon under a jacket, I'd seriously consider an AAC Honey Badger hidden under a sport coat. (I know, I trash talked the Honey Badger a few years ago, before getting a good look at one and seeing just how tiny they are. Mea Culpa. I should know better than to shit on a gun I'm unfamiliar with by now. That's a toxic element of gun culture I've been trying to get away from. It still clings a bit sometimes.) Similarly, the Mk18 and Colt 733 are also pretty good options. That's a little bit of an M4a1 bias, but it's a decent platform. There are other valid options, those are just the first that come to mind for me.

If your character was kitting for CQC, and wanted Warsaw pact weapons, the Groza is a bit exotic, but that's what it was designed for. The SR-3M Vikhr is an update of the Val, and a pretty legitimate choice. They're both 9x39mm rifles, so long range accuracy isn't happening, but in close quarters they still hit stupidly hard. Granted, any Krinkov would work in that role. (So, mostly AKS-74Us.) (I think there were some 7.62x39mm Krinkovs, but I can't remember the name.)

So, ultimately, identifying the differences between the weapons, starts with knowing what the weapons are. Having a basic idea of how they handle (even if that's not first hand), and then being able to see how they differ from one another. This is made even harder in the sense that modern firearms have become extremely modular. Given the option to fully kit out the same gun for you CQC specialist, it's a pretty good bet you and I would walk away with distinctly different end results. Even if the base model was the same. (For the record, I'm not saying my configuration would be better. I have biases and preferences that aren't necessarily the best option available.)

The best place to start, is looking at the kinds of weapons your character would use. Your sniper's going to want a long range precision rifle and a sidearm. She might also go for a small machine pistol/SMG. Your CQC specialist would probably prioritize an actual primary. That might be an SMG, a carbine, or even a shotgun (because nothing says hello quite like three or four 12 gauge shells pumped out of a fully automatic Saiga. (And before someone corrects me, yes, I know, there are no production full-auto Saigas, however they can be illegally modified for full-auto.)

Once you know how different the weapons are, you can start digging into how the characters themselves approach combat, and how their respective styles differ.

Milagro Fic Recommendations

These are good for any time of year, of course, not just February 14. But here are my favorite fics related to the season 6 episode Milagro, a long time favorite. (And @sisterspooky1013's favorite episode of all time: happy VD, girl!) I’ve been reading and sifting through these for some time, and I have tried to include some from all eras: newer AO3 fics, some written right after the ep aired, etc. But I'm sure I've missed some, so hit me with your own faves, please.

Because of Milagro's ending, this entire genre of fic tends to be heavy on the hurt/comfort and angst (which is fiiiiine by me), but that’s not all that’s here. Many of these are smutty, but not all.

Adagio - Terma99 A meditative, peaceful take on the aftermath of Milagro by a veteran author that includes both agents realizing something they had learned. Lovely.

Alma - 6hoursgirl (@sixhours) A lovely hurt/comfort Milagro piece. This one is Mulder POV, which is a little less common for post-Milagro, I think, and I like this characterization of Mulder as desperately wanting to help Scully, desperately wanting to protect her, but also a tiny bit scared of the intimacy and relationship he feels they’re on the cusp of. He’s so good-hearted and also a little dysfunctional here, and I love it.

Bated Breath - dreamingofscully (@dreamingofscully) This one has an original take on Scully's experience; it leaves Scully with clarity and new direction in her relationship with Mulder. DreamingofScully tends to write a more confident, in-charge Scully in the MSR than some do, and I appreciate it.

Beyond the Strokes of a Typewriter - storybycorey (@storybycorey) When Scully is stricken and ashamed that it’s been so long since anyone has seen her as a woman as Padgett did, Mulder is pushed to revelations. Mulder 3rd person POV. Very good smut build up. And nobody does a gorgeous feelings reveal from Mulder like storeybycorey, man.

I Believe - Diana Battis There are a lot of lovely, heartfelt hurt/comfort fics about the aftermath of Milagro (for obvious reasons), but this one is especially well done. Viewed from Scully’s third person point of view, it focuses on Mulder’s capacity for tenderness and guilt. Plus some smut.

Don’t Look Up - ArtemisX5 After Padgett's hallway revelation, Scully is horrified that she has no secrets left. But you know, Mulder is much slower on the draw than she gives him credit for. There is also such moving hurt/comfort in this.

Intimacies with Strangers -mldrgrl (@mldrgrl) This mid- and post- Milagro piece has Mulder and Scully simmering in tension and then boiling over. Their relationship is complex and painfully entangled, and I love how it plays out. There is also excellent Scully characterization. This one helps me to get more fully why she might have been drawn to Padgett initially, something I struggle with in the episode.

La Madrugada - h0ldthiscat A carefully told tale of RST that takes both characters seriously and is sincerely moving. Excellent.

Lacuna - Aloysia_Virgata (@aloysiavirgata) This is a longer work, not really a classic post ep per se. But I love this moody, angsty casefile set right after Milagro. This Scully has not come to terms with her emotions, is thoroughly freaked by how she reacted to Padgett, and hasn't even entirely worked out how she feels about Mulder. There is Scully/other here, but the ship is steering home. The end of this is so moving, but cw: dark themes in the casefile, extreme violence against children, traumatized agents.

Still Life - Seek_Its_Opposite (@seek-its-opposite) Ah, this is such a thoughtful and exquisitely written Scully character piece — and it contains some truly beautiful insights about Mulder, too. It suggests the heartbreaking idea that Mulder’s way of showing Scully respect (giving her distance) is continually hurting her. So tragic (and consistent with canon, e.g. Never Again.) One memorable line: “Every one of their fights is about how to care for one another, every last one.”

Alma Gemela - matchingfabric (@matchingfabric) After the events of Milagro, Scully (and Mulder) get accustomed to platonically sharing a bed for comfort. This is a slightly different take on post-Milagro. Exceptionally, irresistibly sweet. Oh, and smutty.

Hello my dearest friends! It is my deepest pleasure to welcome you to my MSR Kinktober Smut-a-Thon. I wrote the first draft of this in a 17-day, lust-filled haze back in April-May ’24, the words pouring forth from my fingertips without my conscious will. The smut fairy kidnapped me, locked me in her basement, did wonderful, utterly unspeakable things to me—and then released me, covered in glitter and clutching 20k of the most intense smut I have ever written. I then had to go back and write Sweet Surrender to prime the pump (so to speak) and figure out what a sub!Scully head-space would really look like, and let that inform the second draft... which, as you can see, took on a life of its own. I don’t even know how to describe this fic. It’s my masterpiece, my smutty magnum opus, 33k of delicious, kinky adventure. It’s a single night of rough, fun, dirty sex between three extremely hot people. It’s longer than Animal Farm. It’s got bondage and spanking and DP, oh my! There are big feelings and sweet moments and—I kid you not—character development. You will laugh. You will cry. You will sneak off for a little private time, and I wish you all the best. It killed my computer, twice, and my poor beta a thousand times more. At times I felt like I was just standing in the room, frantically scribbling down notes while the characters had their fun. Scenes bloomed like roses; lines of dialogue came to me as if I were hearing them aloud. Surprises leapt off the page that I did not see coming. Themes wove themselves through and I only saw them when I sat back at the very end, like strands of gold in the rich tapestry of smut. I also think I invented a new literary device I am calling “Chekhov’s Pavlov,” so keep an eye out for that. This feels very much like a “What were YOU doing at the Devil’s Sacrament?” story for me. It’s a very vulnerable thing to share kinks this deep (even if they’re not all mine), but then again, you’re here reading it. Just a reminder, never mistake fanfic for reality; these are Barbies I’m smushing together, not real people with flesh and bones and feelings. RACK is best. Eternal thanks to my beloved beta, @onlineproblems, who bore witness to this entire breakdown and encouraged it in real time. Thank you for indulging my insanity, checking my grammar, and catching my dangling modifiers before they fall. Thank you for making me giggle with delight and swoon with gratitude with your insightful comments and notes. Thank you for holding my hand as I ate myself alive with nerves. and from my hours of research, scouring countless delusional pro-g*llovny internet users, i can say that you all would make shit detectives. specifically the g*llovny blogs that compare pictures of DA and DD's kids and try to argue that they've have some secret elaborate 30 year long relationship?? theyre not actually the characters they portray, u guys kno that right? right??

so basically...

i think DD and GA hooked up in the beginning of filming, before they knew they have to see each other for the next decade (link to website). and then obviously by the time GA was pregnant (beginning of 1993) she was with Klotz. theres a reason most of the msr gifs are from the first few seasons...

Her and Klotz divorced the same year DD and Tea Leoni got married, 1997. The 1997 golden globes (u know the one), was in january.

DD and GA's "dark period" was a year later, 1998, and i feel like they could have regressed in between the time of her divorce and his marriage (this slightly dubious interview from 2002 with GA claims just that) (context: interview transcript with GA, allegedly translated from an italian paper in 2002. even discounting this source, it is not implausible, but definitely left to speculation). they were also filming the movie around 1997-1998, and im certain that they were around each other more than their partners at the time.

Marketing

given that a lot of the DDGA confirmed sources are from magazines, im gonna agree with the claim that DDGA was kind of not that secret at the time, as well as a marketing ploy. anything they said or did in 2008, 2013, 2016-2017 was fully marketing idc. the revival era interviews (including 2008 in this era) do show different stages of DD and GA reflecting on their relationship which is insightful and there are countless interviews where GA kind of hints to stuff, but they were all promos for x files (interviews linked below the cut). they certainty fan the flame, though. and while i am certain it was not by design, their chemistry in the first season, whatever the catalyst may have been, was a saving grace of the show.

the Industry

also, i dont think g*llovny shippers on the Celibacy Website have a realistic grasp on the television/film industry or the business of marketing and publicity. luckily, i go to a college full of people who do just that, and let me tell u, actors fuck each other all the time, and i dont think sex was necessarily sacred or all that deep for either of them... (as with most actors,,, have you ever met a film kid??)

some potential drama given this analysis that i think about:

did GA get with Klotz to make DD jealous, or to move on? or both? GA and DD had a "professional" relationship until her divorce? and then post-divorce was when shit got real...

i also think a big reason to deny the relationship (besides, like the right to privacy as a human being), is because of their timing,,, like she was married and had a kid by the end of 1994, what good would admitting to an affair during that time bring? i dont think DD is the father or anything, but i think even admitting it given the timing would have cast messy implications on DD, GA, Klotz, and/or her daughter.

did DD marry Tea after hooking up with GA in 1997 as an apology and commitment to her, or to move on? the timing is odd if that one dubious excerpt is to be believed, but even without it, it would provide plausible context concerning the catalyst of the Dark Times.

there is the detail that DD and GA announced their divorces on each other's birthdays, which is... a crazy coincidence.

i NEED to know about the "dark times"... i literally can not imagine Hating someone and then being able to look deeply into their eyes. i need to see bloopers or something.

overly specific timeline with sources below the cut (i never said i wasnt as thorough or meticulous as g*llovny shippers, i just said theyre dillusional)

1992: CC writes the pilot, it is picked up by Fox, DD and GA meet at auditions.

sept 10, 1993: s1e1 pilot airs. we can assume they have been filming since or shortly after auditions. They would have known each other and been shooting for at least a few months by the time the pilot aired.

1994: This clip from Entertainment Tonight that i suspect was filmed around the time they were filming S1, in 1993. DD: "ive spent more time with gillian than anybody in my whole life... so, you know, it’s.. you know, you gotta be careful.. somebody could get hurt." GA mouths "me." the whole time GA is trying to suppress some mixed but kind of revealing facial expressions. idk u gotta watch it, but it looks very early on in the series, and is the type of banter that people trying to convince themselves not to fuck engage in.

sept 1994: Gillians daughter is born. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, they probably werent fucking for about nine months before this.nine months before sept would have been around december 1993 by the most liberal of estimates

so they essentially had from whenever they met in 1992 until around the end of 1993, though GA probably would have been with Klotz for a few months before she got pregnant around the beginning of 1994

1994-1995 Interview: (sometime during season 2 filming, post pregnancy): In an interview, around the 8 min mark, GA: "at the beginning we [her and DD] started out very close, and, um, as you work together... things change a little bit. we have a very professional relationship, very business orientated."

post-2003: there are countless interviews with GA where she sloppily evades the questions. 2008 jimmy kimmel interview , 2009 interview , 2014 interview GA: “maybe... there might even be more than an attraction.. but it’s not gonna happen”

personal psychoanalysis of strangers, by a stranger

GA:

2003: in a BBC produced podcast recorded around 2003, GA talks about having lethal depression as a teen and engaging in rebellious/self sabotaging behaviors while in the US. (honestly, it makes sense why scully resonated with queer emos, GA was one!)

1999: excerpt where GA describes her attraction to “dangerous” (ie toxic, avoidant, noncommittal) men and DD definitely fits the bill.

GA’s dating and marriage history is kinda crazy and impulsive in retrospect. of course i know she wasn’t thinking about that as she was living her life but, she makes wild moves.

GA was also so so young and new to the industry. Hollywood is infamous for its coercive business tactics and Gillian sure knows how to play the game. (the crown) or "bc the director liked her".

DD:

"a winter's tale" by anjou is a gorgeously written casefic that explores what might have happened if emily wasn't the only scully child created by the syndicate

"x-tropy" by deadcanons is such an incredibly weird fic and it's so twisty. it's a deep dive into scully's immortality and it has fantastic ocs and somehow more chapters than kudos even though it's so unique and well-written

Domestic Partners: Together at Last

For Mulder their romantic relationship didn’t begin with their first kiss or even the first time they slept together; it was when Scully started casually holding his hand in public. They’d held hands in private countless times throughout their partnership but something about the way she so easily started transitioning to doing it in a public setting felt like a wall had come down. It was such an innocuous gesture that made Mulder smile every time she did it, and at some point Mulder would always take her hand and kiss it. So formal and old world, Mulder’s hand kisses were always incredibly endearing to Scully. For all the intimacy and domesticity they had shared up until this point; being able to show affection without restraint was the turning point that signaled their romantic relationship. 

Of all the things they had imagined about their sex life, laughter was one element they both completely failed to predict. In fact, neither of them had ever laughed so much in bed as they did with each other. Their love making often held a sense of light heartedness and fun; so starkly different from the rest of their lives. Playful, experimental, magic, the two had a unique sexual chemistry that rounded out their relationship and was the embodiment of people who were truly compatible. Mulder’s stamina and diligence in the bedroom was admirable but Scully had to get him to pair down his routine to a solid 20 minutes on work nights. With a grumble he acquiesced, not wanting to lose sex privileges altogether, but the moment they were off the clock Mulder made up for it with long, languid love making sessions. 

As a couple they formed new routines which slowly phased out the listless void that had been such a large component of Mulder’s life. Unlike previous relationships he’d experienced, they moved in tandem as a team, and his restlessness naturally faded. Scully, was wary of Mulder’s eagerness to throw himself into their relationship and be the partner he believed she wanted. So she spurred him on to keep up his independent interests; and he chased sightings of Bigfoot, looked into conspiracies with The Gunmen, and would disappear on vague trips with little explanations but big hugs. It took a little while for Mulder to understand that this wasn’t a rejection, but Scully’s insightful way of making sure their relationship was sustainable. ‘Two whole and independent people who chose to be together but are able to function apart’ she told him. From a psychological point of view he knew she was right, but he had been functioning on his own most of his life, he just preferred when she was near. 

Discretion was important to them both, which meant no public displays of affection in D.C and their options for dates were pretty restricted. This gave Mulder an opportunity to get creative, adding extra travel days in between cases to take Scully to concerts, eat at nice restaurants and pretend to be normal for a while. Mulder talked of a life outside of The X Files and field work, but Scully was skeptical that he’d be able to give it up and certainly didn’t want him to resent her for this decision in the future. After an endless stream of cases Mulder finally revealed the truth into the darkness like a silent confession. He was tired of worrying about their lives always being in jeopardy, but his real motive was that he’d looked into being a Foster Carer, and he couldn’t bear the thought of making that commitment and letting a kid down because of their work. Scully sobbed at this admission and finally she understood that Mulder wasn’t running away from The X Files to appease her, he was just looking towards a future with her. 

As people who intellectualized their feelings, communicating emotions wasn’t a strong suit, but on long drives or quiet nights one of them would summon the courage to speak of their hopes and dreams, or fears and anxieties. Each time it happened they found it easier to do, a ritual that only they shared and the knowledge of the fact that they were safe confiding in each other. 

However, it was not their comfort with this new stream of dialogue that raised their profile in the FBI, but a display of their non-verbal communication in a meeting with other field Agents and department heads. While Scully was presenting her findings a fellow Agent made a joke at her expense, Mulder arched into action but with a look Scully commanded him to back down. Mulder gave a look of acquiescence and his gaze shifted over to the lectern where their papers were stored, after a nod from Scully, Mulder silently handed her a document. Scully continued to address the Agent who made the joke and showed him a report with the evidentiary findings that proved her point and ended by reminding him that regardless of his diminutive view point, human lives were saved as a result of their involvement. The air was sucked out of the room for a moment as the other attendees struggled to comprehend what they had just witnessed. Eventually Skinner wrapped things up but rumors of the pair developing telepathy became an ongoing joke. Skinner loved to recount stories of silent fights he’d witnessed the pair have in his office after a few drinks and he knew their connection was something to be envied.

For Maggie Scully, there was no official confirmation that Mulder and Scully were in a relationship. Mulder began attending Sunday dinners while their relationship was still technically plutonic, so their bickering and teasing didn’t count as genuine evidence because in that regard, they were still very much the same. Mulder was a welcomed addition to the Scully family dinners, always bringing a bottle or wine or a bunch of flowers as a host gift. The times he brought flowers he always got Scully a bunch too, which she put in water and tried to downplay her delight at his simple gesture. 

After dinner it was quietly understood that Mulder and Scully would do the washing up. Their hushed conversations and stifled laughter made a pleasant hum throughout the house and Maggie loved to silently watch the pair in their own little world. Even Bill Jr begrudgingly got used to Mulder’s presence, unable to deny the happiness he brought his sister, the way he helped Maggie while he was away, and how his son adored him. As men often do, Bill Jr and Mulder had a silent agreement to stick to talking about sports and avoided any topics that could cause contention. Bill didn’t even tease Mulder for tearing up while watching Beauty and the Beast with Matty; although Scully mocked him mercilessly. 

‘Scully, it’s just the lyrics to that one song! “Just a little change. Small, to say the least. Both a little scared, neither one prepared..” it’s us!’

‘I better not be the Beast, Mulder…’ 

With a kiss Mulder silenced her mocking but a few weeks later Scully discovered Mulder had bought the soundtrack to Beauty and the Beast and it was in his CD player. 

The ease at which Mulder fit into her family functions surprised Scully, and he was quickly a favorite amongst her relatives and family friends. Much to her surprise, Mulder was quite comfortable manning the Grill and always willing to help prepare food for the guests. 

Part way through their first Summer as a couple Scully had to ask him to stop accepting every invite to these cookouts and gatherings. Between Sunday dinners and these additional get-togethers, Scully was seeing more of her family than she had in a decade, and preferred to pick and choose which occasions she showed up too. So an agreement was made that all invitations would be run by Scully first to “check if they would be working out of town” and bypass Mulder’s inability to say ‘no’ to Maggie Scully.

Mulder’s diet, which had previously subsisted heavily on takeout and dry cereals, changed dramatically once dating Scully. Most nights in D.C they cooked together. Nothing overly complicated, grilled fish or chicken served with vegetables or a salad. Mulder wasn’t really one for cooking, but he enjoyed helping Scully prepare their meals and they made a pretty efficient team. Once every few weeks they’d go to the local farmers market and buy the fresh produce (as well as a large bag of kettle corn for Mulder). This was one of the many activities they did before they were a couple, but now the chances were much higher that the items purchased would be shared. Every time they went to the markets Scully would make sure to go to her favorite local honey vendor, Hank. A pharmacist by trade, Hank discovered beekeeping as a way to help control his seasonal allergies. Hank explained to Scully all about the studies on ingesting bee pollen or honey collected from local bees for allergies, which she found fascinating. Mulder’s dislike of Hank was juvenile and fueled purely by jealousy. Once they officially started dating, Mulder was no longer allowed to make snide remarks or roll his eyes while she chatted to Hank, so he would just stand next to her silently and watch the interaction with all the intense concentration of a trained guard dog. In a million years Mulder would never admit that he loved Hank’s honey and it actually  helped him a lot during allergy season, but Scully noticed him slipping it into his tea every chance he got. 

Since their first year as Partners Scully had accused Mulder of essentially being a bear who owned furniture with his ignorance of basic domestic care. Her judgmental looks and glares were originally enough to get him to clean his toilet and take out the trash semi-regularly, however he quickly realized if he wanted Scully to spend the night with him, he’d have to up his game. Fresh sheets, clean bathroom (with no empty shampoo bottles on the shower floor), and toilet paper placed on the holder became a regular feature at Mulder’s apartment and he was rewarded with Scully spending half her time in D.C at his apartment.

Like any couple, especially ones who had known each other for so long, they argued. But while they may have fought like all couples they did not fight like a normal couple. There was no yelling or throwing things, their disagreements were more of a heated debate with time allocated for both views to be presented as well as rebuttal. One of their first fights as a couple happened late one night at Mulder’s place. Not willing to concede defeat Mulder became sullen, sarcastic and petulant towards Scully. Rolling her eyes she muttered in frustration that he was being an ass, then she kicked him in the shins and walked into his bedroom to go to bed. From the other room she could hear Mulder give a bewildered laugh and the tension evaporated. With an exaggerated limp Mulder walked into the bedroom to make amends, and was happy to do so more than once that night. 

Their other arguments didn’t always resolve as quickly and they both usually needed a day to reflect on the details. Mostly they got along very amicably though and their bickering reduced dramatically once their relationship became physical. 

There was now a TV in Mulder’s bedroom and Scully found a bed frame with built-in bookshelves for him. While on the whole his insomnia had improved, Scully didn’t like waking up in the middle of the night to find him missing. So now he could watch tv on low or read without worrying about disturbing Scully. Mulder had mentioned cohabitation but it led to one of their awkward standoffs, so he was happy to compromise with sharing a bed with her almost every night.

The road that led them to this point was fraught with so much turmoil, sacrifice and pain. For Mulder, he couldn't remember a time when he had been happier. A part of him understood life would always turn on a dime so he tried to savor this time as much as possible. But for all his anxiety about the future he knew they would continue to fight together, comrades in arms, bracing themselves for the next roll of the dice.

Today, I'm thanking The X-Files community for bringing me across a wonderful show-- its amazing cast and writers and fans-- and inspiring me to get back on my own creative hobbyhorse.

Throughout the Qur’an, the word {taqwa} is used over and over again, emphasising its value and importance. In simple terms, taqwa of Allah means obeying Allah in what He has commanded, and steering away from what He has prohibited.

In his tafseer of the above aayah, Imam Ibn Kathir rahimahullah commented that those who have taqwa of Allah will be given 3 rewards:

Generally no. It's just too hard to get write.

Star Wars! I was basically copying out the dialogue from the film and adding some ~insightful inner thoughts~.

L: now, it has been a while since I watched season 4 and 5 of Atlantis but i genuinely think that Jennifer tried her best with what she was given. She’s getting a lot of heat from the fandom, a lot of it I assume bc she came in as the love interests for first Ronon and then Rodney and she doesn’t deserve this. She was thrown into the show, super young, super inexperienced, super scared, and it’s honestly a shame that the only insight into her character was when there was a man involved (i hope this counts, this is more a ‘the writers fucked up a perfectly fine character - again - and fandom hated the character for that’ comment but eh🤷)

M: Vala. I think she’d be good for me xD very outgoing, very insane, very fun, deeply traumatized… she’d made me do things that get me out of my comfort zone but she’d also be down for chill evenings of getting drinks and sharing all the hot goss <3

G: yes, i did have an OTP, and it was Sam/Jack. It was my first one and I kinda feel like it’s stuck forever? But who knows. I don’t engage as much with that part of the fandom anymore but they’re still lingering in some back corner of my mind. As for others, idk, I’m rotating a bunch of ships that i get into VERY strongly from time to time but idk if they’re otps? (For the record, i’m thinking of Teylabeth, Saru/T’Rina and MSR). Shipping has become such a big part of my fandom experience but my fandom experience is being so flaky lately that it’s hard to pinpoint xD

Who doesn’t love a well-done MSR first-time smut biscuit? I sure do.

This one is not your run-of-the-mill PWP. It has strong character voices, sizzling dialogues, and a lovely prose style. The story starts with a rendition of jealous!Mulder that I love and ends with steamy, angsty sex. I like a bit of character insight and a little angst to go with the sex. This fic does that perfectly.

Good morning and happy Monday!! Welcome back to Amp Up Your Week!

The weather is a bit miserable today. Tons of rain and thunder so loud it kept waking me up last night. It already didn't help it took forever for me to get to sleep in the first place...I'm really hoping I can get a nap in today...

Right - Science news! This one is more of a no-brainer but, Mini-robots modeled on insects may be smallest, lightest, fastest ever developed! I could have told them that insect-styled robots are extremely efficient, but...hey - not everyone can have Tuffle insight! -giggles-

Anyway, such robots could be useful with artificial pollination, search and rescue and so many more things!

As for music, I've been working on something more upbeat but haven't gotten the words exact yet....So I hope you don't mind some acoustics on this misty morning~
