Alright, this might be a bit too early to be saying this, but ever since Rook's 'betrayal' and those who are hating on him now...I'm kind of worried the same thing might happen to Silver. Since each of the stories take parts from the movies, we know that Silver is twisted from the sword that killed Maleficent. And what if he's forced to defeat Malmal? Knowing toxic people are in the fandom, they might start bashing others for still loving him. That's what scares me. ~🍁leaf anon
I was thinking of the same thing a few days ago www. Well, *sigh* time for another analysis I guess:
Considering what we had to go through after Pomefiore chapter...I thought if it was really just because of how the story ended. But I came to realize something important, the drama wasn't simply because a NRC student voted for RSA, it was because Rook did this, a character who already had a considerably dramatic reputation in the fandom way before Pomefiore was released:
Let me give you a better example, Leona. In savanaclaw's arc Leona was this close to seriously killing Ruggie. We all know that it wasn't intentional, his attack was a result of having his magic stone tainted which soon led to Leona's overblot so his actions/ emotions weren't really under his control at the time.
But still, he almost killed Ruggie but no one ever really started a drama or #CancelLeonaKingscholar tag over it, I'd dare say no one even blamed him either.
Well Leona might not be the best example we can use here but I assure you, if Rook does something really bad, and Leoona does the exacf same thing afterwards, Leona would face less punishment and blame because of his current popularity and clout.
According to the statistics, Leona's currently the most popular dorm leader and most likely the most popular character of the game, doing something absolutely horrible may lead to a mild decrease in number of fans, yet, it'll never, never be as dramatic and horrible as what fans did over Rook.
Look, clout is very important, so if a potentionally popular character does something bad a considerble majority of fans might simply ignore and exucse their deeds, note that as students who have souls of greatest of villains none of them were ever supposed to be any pure either; NRC is a school of villains.
What I'm trying to say, is that the drama was also exaggerated because it was with Rook of all people. Both Rook and Vil are characters who have been looked down on and harassed ever since twst was released, so no wonder why the fandom exploded when Rook of all people made NRC lose the VDC.
-Defending your bias- is something quite common in not just twst but rather each and every fandom all over the world! I'm not saying everyone would just ignore everything horrible their bias has done to defend them, but a huge majority of fans would this soooo when dramas like his arrive, more popular characters like Leona and Malleus have a higher chance of survival while Rook just drowned under the pile of hate comments and posts.
Regarding the Diasomnia chapter, I'd give you an example using Malleus; He is a very important character, dare to say the most important character of the game after Yuu. Why am I saying this? Oh God, can't you all see? The one and only character to be on twst's official poster, the only one who got an official artwork aside his concept art and game cards design; the very last character we're going to have a SSR pick up for and the last dorm leader we're going to meet and also the only character who happened to befriend and get to know Yuu without knowing them much or having a specific chance to meet them in school.
Why is his role so important? We don't know. We don't know what makes Malleus special and that's my point, it can even turn out to be something truly evil.
I love Malleus, but at the same time I don't fully trust him, his "I've got lovely plans to entertain you here" has been giving me chills for so long and if he turns out to be a total contrast to the silly tamagotchi baby this fandom has made of him I won't be the least surprised; yet, even if we get to face a plot twist that changes our entire perspective towards him ( in bad way) I still won't unstan him, not because I think of him as a misunderstood and isolated young boy who is kind and pure at heart no matter how scary he looks on the outside.
Each and every of our characters (except Silver, I'd later explain why) have a dark side to them whether you like it or not, that's a fact. Expecting guys who are supposedly twisted Villains to behave like a prince on the white horse is nothing but a wild fanon fantasy.
I guess Diasomnia chapter is still going to face less drama since most of Diasomnia characters are considerbly popular among the fans, but Sebek's on think ice I'd say, I'm sure that I won't ever see a #CancelMalleusDraconia tag but a #CancelSebekZigvolt tag? That's not too far from mind considering how Rook got shitted on because of a simple vote. I guess almost all of us have already prepared for Silver's possible betrayal as the sword so if anyone ever dares start a drama over something which we already saw coming long ago, that's a matter of immaturity and obvious stupidity.
Long story short, no matter what happens in the future story line, I expect everyone to be civil. Just a boo is all it takes for some dramtic fans to lose their minds again but let me tell you: Even if Malleus DIES(which is logically impossible) in the very end I'm still mature enough to never start a drama over it no matter how badly it hurts.
But...since I know there's never really a way to prevent drama in this fandom, all I can say is to stay silent whenever you see a wave of drama. Don't support the drama, but don't oppose to it either, just ignore it.
I was watching as the wave of Rook drama washed down the fandom and this is the summary of how posts changed under the tags:
12 hours after the release of Pomefiore's final episodes: Memes clowning Rook, mild spams of hate.
12 hours- 4 days after the release of Pomefiore's final episodes: Posts defending Rook, shoutouts, stuff explaining why Rook's vote for RSA made sense, etc.
You see what I mean? The first 12 hours was the main wave of hate spam but this drama was mainly about the spam of posts defending Rook, not attacking him.
Continuing a drama, whether it's by hating a character or defending them just worsens the chaos even as you're totally right and mean good.
The one and only way to truly prevent a drama from being spread all over the fandom, is by not supporting/atracking any posts, ignoring drama and waiting until no one is talking about it anymore.

#evolution
Last time, we discussed about the Evolution of Media, from Traditional to the Digital age of Media. And I actually find it fascinating, the way the media developed through the centuries and how advanced it became as of today. So let me share with you the timeline of the Media’s evolution and to add some fun, I also shared some Korean dramas or maybe movies which reminds me of some of these ages.
1. Pre-Industrial Age (Before 1700′s)
In the Pre-Industrial Age, the writing system were very different from what we are using as of this moment. They communicate or spread information through painting cave walls and ceilings with the use of stones, which is also a tool for the people at this age to make fire and almost on everything to survive.
Pictures below are from Pre-Industrial Age of Media:
2. Industrial Age (1700′s - 1930′s)
In the Industrial Age, the use of machinery and many inventions as media started. The notable tools from this age was the typewriter, telephones, newspaper, and also, motion pictures or movies started at this age.
This age actually reminds me of the K-drama Chicago Typewriter (2017), it was about the Korean activists in 1930′s and their reincarnation in the present time, and one thing I clearly remember about that drama is that in their alliance, they used typewriter to write for the newspaper, which they also use to spread secret information to their allies. It’s a good drama so I also recommend it to you!

3. Electronic Age (1930′s - 1980′s)
In the Electronic age, people started to use electricity and some invented machines as a form of media. Transistor is a device that regulated the electricity workflow of the electronic signals, which was invented to assists the portable radios, television, and computer that was also invented. At this age, computers were invented that’s why the long distance communication also became more efficient at this age.
In the picture below is the poster of the K-drama Reply 1988 (2015). The drama revolves around the lives of the families living in Ssamundong in 1988. Though set in the late 1980′s, still it was in the Electronic Age. In this drama, I was still able to see the old technologies that was invented in this age. The television, the radio, the computers, and even the old cameras, it was all shown in this drama.
4. Information Age (1990′s - 2000′s)
In the Information Age of Media, we started using the internet, which we are commonly using right now, and at this age, everything got digitalized and the spread of information became faster and it started to get easy communicating with far-away friends and relatives and almost all of the people started to have their own access to information through articles online or on their social media accounts.
So the K-drama I’d associate with this age is the Search: WWW (2019). This drama tackles about three women who works in the top two search engines in Korea. In this drama, aside from the lives of the three women in the picture, I also get to know more about the search engines that we use to gain information, how their system works, and made me aware of the fact that anything on the internet is possibly manipulated and we really should really make sure our sources are reliable.
So that’s all for this post! Hope you enjoyed reading this and I hope you learn something about the evolution of media.

⭐ James Bond is a fictional character created by novelist Ian Fleming in 1953. Bond is a British secret agent working for MI6 who also answers to his codename, 007. He has been portrayed on film by actors Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, in twenty-six productions. All the films but two were made by Eon Productions. Eon now holds the full adaptation rights to all of Fleming's Bond novels.
⭐ In 1961 producers Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman joined forces to purchase the filming rights to Fleming's novels. They founded the production company Eon Productions and, with financial backing by United Artists, began working on Dr. No, which was directed by Terence Young and featured Connery as Bond. Following Dr. No's release in 1962, Broccoli and Saltzman created the holding company Danjaq to ensure future productions in the James Bond film series. The series currently encompasses twenty-four films, with the most recent, Spectre, released in October 2015. With a combined gross of nearly $7 billion to date, the films produced by Eon constitute the fourth-highest-grossing film series, behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, and Wizarding World films. Accounting for the effects of inflation the Bond films have amassed over $14 billion at current prices.
⭐ The films have won five Academy Awards: for Sound Effects (now Sound Editing) in Goldfinger (at the 37th Awards), to John Stears for Visual Effects in Thunderball (at the 38th Awards), to Per Hallberg and Karen Baker Landers for Sound Editing, and to Adele and Paul Epworth for Original Song in Skyfall (at the 85th Awards), and to Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes for Original Song in Spectre (at the 88th Awards). Additionally, several of the songs produced for the films have been nominated for Academy Awards for Original Song, including Paul McCartney's "Live and Let Die", Carly Simon's "Nobody Does It Better" and Sheena Easton's "For Your Eyes Only". In 1982, Albert R. Broccoli received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.
⭐ When Broccoli and Saltzman bought the rights to existing and future Fleming titles, it did not include Casino Royale, which had already been sold to producer Gregory Ratoff, with the story having been adapted for television in 1954. After Ratoff's death, the rights were passed on to Charles K. Feldman, who subsequently produced the satirical Bond spoof Casino Royale in 1967. A legal case ensured that the film rights to the novel Thunderball were held by Kevin McClory as he, Fleming and scriptwriter Jack Whittingham had written a film script upon which the novel was based.
⭐ Although Eon Productions and McClory joined forces to produce Thunderball, McClory still retained the rights to the story and adapted Thunderball into 1983's Never Say Never Again. The current distribution rights to both of those films are held by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the studio which distributes Eon's regular series.

Social media in Adam Lambert’s life&career
It’s been so long since I’ve written anything longer than a tweet about Adam, but this stanning lethargy doesn’t reflect the level of my interest in the man. It may appear so, but can the lack of online presence automatically imply the lack of interest? In today’s state of affairs, when artists have carefully constructed and heavily monitored internet presence, when YouTube views are everything and the most powerful politicians seem to pay more attention to Twitter than their jobs, it would be understandable if it could. The www. has finally become literally that – a worldwide group chat, where presidents tweet, where actors, musicians and sportsmen keep vlogs on YouTube, writers publish their essays on Facebook, and everybody comments.
Adam Lambert has chosen not to do so. In an era when YouTube stars become singers who get Saturday Night Live slots where they whisper the lyrics into a microphone, and when the top trending video which garnered more than 30 million views in a day is one of a reality star announcing her pregnancy, Adam has taken a quiet step back in the past few years - and I together with him. I couldn’t help it. Twitter has lost its appeal to me ever since a constant possibility that Adam could see a particularly flaily or witty tweet was no longer an option – the magic of giddy anticipation was gone. For all intents and purposes, Adam has semi-abandoned Twitter and moved to Instagram; a Facebook affiliated app which I never took a liking to.
I was upset and a little resentful. I didn’t understand why. Not only did I have to suffer the cruel Atlantic Ocean between us, but now we were on different online apps, which is a fate way worse than living on different continents, according to cyber sense of geography. In my bitterness, I even had an occasional mean thought on the subject. Oh yeah, that’s because he can ogle hot guys there. What about MEEE? Or, even worse: it’s because of the filters. The man LOVES a good filter, the vain queen. Or, absolutely the worst: he wanted to escape the twitter crazies. It was the worst because I should have known that the crazies are everywhere. I was bitchy, mean, and so, so wrong. This essay is my redemption. The price I want to pay for my stupidity, because Adam does have a social media presence, albeit not as aggressive as I might like. There is a reason for that, which he has already given. I had read it before, but it flew right over me like a sparrow, equally tender and fragile, leaving my head unruffled and thoughtless as if nothing had happened.
Even on his preferred social network, Adam’s behavior is somewhat atypical, in a sense that he doesn’t hesitate to share less than perfect photos. Unfiltered, sweaty, in-your-face, flaking makeup photos of the realistic kind - a rare occurrence among the Hollywood hotties. But he is a geek like the rest of us. The anticipation of waiting for the first photos to appear when he has a concert is one of the best parts of being his fan. Adam is incredibly photogenic, but sometimes, those photos are low quality ones, taken by fans on their phones, from pretty unflattering angles. Adam somehow manages to look great in most of them, despite the low angles and the fact that great physical exertion makes everyone look awful. Being photographed in the middle of an adrenaline rush while singing from the top of your lungs for two hours is challenging. His facial features almost rearrange with strain, but Adam simply knows how to pose and is rarely caught off guard – a life’s tiny miracle. I love those candid pictures. And Adam posts only the best of them.
It’s the professional photos where he shines the most. Those are usually true works of art, crispy sharp and simply stunning in their quality. I don’t think I’ve ever seen less than perfect professional photo of Adam. They capture the moments that would otherwise be missed and allow you to fully appreciate the visual side the concert. In videos, the focus is primarily on the sound and the movement, but if I had to choose which medium reflects Adam’s emotional state and journey during concerts best, I would choose photography. It’s a strange thing to say about a singer, but Adam has a very expressive face and body. It’s like their muteness and stillness don’t subtract, but add to the experience of Adam’s process of creation.
In addition to music photography, Adam posts everything and anything that’s important to him, seemingly with no rhyme or reason. His Instagram page is a mess, a potpourri of professional photos, fan photos, album covers, photos of his family, friends, his dog, travelling photos, fashion photos, and all that in uneven levels of quality which most posters would never allow themselves. Adam has it all, from professional HD quality to grainy and blurry shots taken by a phone. It’s a far cry from carefully coordinated, handpicked and posted after a thousandth try stylish representation of other serious posters. He doesn’t juice for a week before taking selfies. He doesn’t always filter. He doesn’t always look pretty. He isn’t always all mysterious and artistic. He’s sometimes such a goofball. He is definitely an undisciplined Instagram user.
It’s a revealing fact. He deletes his posts sometimes, and I’m not sure if it’s the morning after self-filtering, or he gets the call. Social media can make or break a career nowadays. But on the other hand, you can be a successful artist without constant media presence – although it is a pretty rare occurrence. The only example coming to my mind is Frank Ocean. There are artists who have a modest number of followers and YouTube views, and yet they can and do fill up arenas, just as there are artists who have millions of followers and cannot have a decent tour.
In Adam’s case, I feel like he is past making or breaking his career online. At this point, he doesn’t need a heavily moderated Instagram page or a vlogging channel to achieve anything - other than making me happier, that is. The fact that I would love if Adam was more present, by engaging with his fans more, or, in best case scenario, vlogging about his life and career (I would sell my firstborn for that), doesn’t mean much in grander scheme of things. Adam has allowed himself the luxury of doing what he wants, and his Instagram page reflects that in the clearest of ways. I am not saying he wouldn’t benefit from having 50 million followers on Twitter or Instagram, but, he just doesn’t have that. If he can’t get it from doing his job and being who he is, he will never get it anyway. He refuses to participate in the social media race. So, unlike many a budding YouTube star trying to make it in other fields by creating an ideal, unrealistic impression of themselves, with their uniform, heavily filtered, grayscale artsy photos, Adam’s multifarious posts do reveal a lot simply by not being what one would expect. He’s a rebel just for kicks there.
Oh, there is some vanity there; he isn’t above it nor does he pretend to be. He smizes and pouts in many filtered photos and videos, enjoying his flawless skin provided by Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom’s filtering system, turning his head like this and like that like a Valley girl – but that’s just Adam playing with his toy. He has this proclivity for ridiculous behavior; that and the fact that he loves the ageless chibi art of Creative Sharka makes me sometimes think that he has entered a serious fear-of-getting-old phase. It would have been true if he posted such photos only, which he most definitely doesn’t.
Adam is a naturally beautiful man, why does he have to goof around like that? Well, because he is so much more than that. Because more than stunning good looks, he has a killer sense of humor. Because more than looking pretty and feeding his vanity, he loves having fun. He mocks himself, too. “I swear I didn't realize I was making full duck face” is his own comment on a truly astounding full duck face he made while trying to credit Valentino for a clothing item. He loves stand-up comedy. He’s watched the Amy Schumer Leather special, and the Ricky Gervais Humanity special, and posted about both shows. That’s how I know.
There’s a selfie which he took while Antinous was being tattooed on his torso – a particularly painful experience, according to him; hence the awkward facial expression. The photo is so ridiculous and unflattering that it immediately reminded me of the comical selfies which Ricky Gervais takes all the time, trying to look as ugly as possible in them, thus expressing his mockery on the worldwide mania of posting unrealistically perfect photos. Adam has a comedic streak a mile wide, and not only does it come out in concerts and movie roles such as his part of Eddie in the Rocky Horror Picture Show, but also in his Instagram page as well. Unlike Ricky, Adam just wants to laugh at himself. Yes, he sometimes looks ridiculous and weird - don’t we all? He’s no bullshitter, and never will be.
Now would be a great moment to mention his Grandma June alter ego. So, Adam has decided it would be great to make himself look forty years older, name the character Grandma June and rant throughout several videos on many a current topic. Who? What? Adam, the most eligible gay bachelor of several times? Adam, the Zeus in a thong sex symbol for many? Unbelievable. Waves of discomfort could be felt throughout the shallower waters of the fandom. Was he just having fun with it? Was he mocking himself for overusing de-aging filters? Was he helping himself get over his own fear of aging by laughing at his own expense? Was it some kind of reverse psychology/psychotherapy via Snapchat filters? Was it to shock his fans who come to his page for hotness and beauty galore, only to find Grandma June blinking owlishly at them? The list is endless. It’s like he was saying, ‘yeah, I’m hot, but I’m also ridiculous, funny and a little bit on the crazy side.’ Who knows. It’s certainly less ridiculous than me putting words in his mouth. It is also very non-Hollywood of Adam, where ageism is rampant and the anti-aging industry flourishes, where kids start injecting botox as soon as they’re twenty and where a lot of people take faces they’re born with as a slight suggestion. Interesting topic.
We’re now traipsing deeper and deeper into Adam’s more hidden depths. This makes it sound like scrolling through his Instagram page is a voyage into the heart of darkness, the Apocalypse Now style; but it does feel adventurous after you parse through the regular job-related stuff. Such aside interests tell us a lot about him and his fascinations, like his love and respect for other artists. He is a true fan at heart, expressing himself unabashedly and passionately – so many pictures of Freddie, Bowie and George Michael, but also Goldfrapp, Demi, Lady Gaga, and all his musician friends. Sometimes, he puts the flailers in his own fandom to shame. I like that about him. I feel like it’s a level we can relate on. And I love that he doesn’t have cheap, tit-for-tat, I’ll-do-you-and-you-do-me mentality. When he says that he likes something, you better fucking believe that he does.
He also loves nature. He posts sceneries – the beloved Runyon Canyon, the Ibiza cruise, Mexico, Bali, Mykonos in Greece, Argentina, you name it - but, he will also post a photo of a single olive tree. The fandom speculated for three days about what it could possibly mean. He posted a video of a single butterfly flapping its wings, and a colony of bats, and a lonely gecko crawling up the wall and a mother duck and her ducklings swimming in the lake. Endless photos of Pharaoh don’t even count. Details from around him capture his attention in a way that he expresses his emotive, intuitive side by showing us the impact they have on him. In his private moments, he is a far cry from a wild rocker living his wild rock’n’roll life. He’s so much more than that. He’s a tree watcher. A butterfly watcher. A bird watcher. Life and observing life clearly excites him.
He also loves architecture. He will post pictures of streets and buildings, sculptures and monuments, from everywhere he goes, and he travels a lot. Someone else would probably spend all pre- and post-concert time in hibernation accumulating energy, but not Adam. He loves the bas-reliefs, ancient facades, the Greco-Roman culture, supporting columns and carvings of Venetian houses; but every now and then he will also post some strange things, like tombstones. He’s a traveler with a twist. When he goes somewhere new, he sometimes visits cemeteries. He’s been to Boston Cemetery and Buenos Aires Cemetery. He posted a photo of the entrance to Jesus’ tomb from his visit to Jerusalem. No matter what B Hollywood horror movies are trying to tell us, cemeteries are never about being creepy or frightful -- they are like a library for the imagination. Wandering cemeteries around the globe, reading headstones, thinking about the lives of the people there, the mind wanders into a thousand stories. It can be therapeutic. But, who knows what Adam’s motives were. All I know is that he is more than just a traveler – he is also a spiritual explorer.
In everything he does, he rarely stays within the lines. This diversity tells us that Adam is a complex man before he is an artist, and even less than he is an artist, that he is a promoting artist. His self-promoting campaigns are there, but ever so subtle and discrete - nothing like the aggressive campaigning that has become obligatory nowadays. I’m not talking about the management or the label part in it, or whoever is in charge of his promotion; just Adam’s own role in it. A few tweets, a few Instagram posts, mostly just informative in nature, before a new release. Regarding concerts, a tweet before and after is a rarity. An occasional review. He will sometimes post great photos after concerts, though. I have no idea how to explain such behavior other than to say that he doesn’t want to do it, nor does he feel like he has to. Maybe he is of the ‘an artist should never reveal too much and keep a level of mystery’ persuasion. Maybe he believes the music will find its way to those who want to hear it. Or maybe he just finds it tacky, as I do, the ad nauseam self-promoting of certain artists. Who knows. I certainly wouldn’t find it tacky if Adam did it. We’ll see how Era 4 will roll out and if Adam will be more talkative then. The one explanation I personally find the most believable is that he is a well-mannered man who believes that you should let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips; but that’s because I tend to attribute Adam superhuman qualities. He can’t be that much of a gentleman, can he?
He is not very verbose in his Instagram captions either; most of them, that is. His posts are usually with very little or no comment from him. He tags the people in the photo, or he gives credit to the photographer – he is pretty diligent about it. On few unfortunate occasions when that didn’t happen, we had a mutiny among the photographers which ended with bruised egos on both sides.
So sparse are his comments, that when you do bump onto a few loquacious ones, you just know that it must be something of utter importance or that he feels strongly about. You don’t have to guess anything then, or draw unfortunate conclusions, which is a game his fans like to play and that Adam likes to engage us in by dropping random hints. No game here – his words are loud and crystal clear, concise and to the point, and apart from bringing my attention to the relevance of such particular posts, they serve to remind me what a great thinker and an amazing human being Adam is. Those words are always about love and equality.
One of such glimpses into his more private, passionate side is certainly his love and appreciation for Creative Sharka, a fan who makes digital paintings and chibi art of Adam and the moments in his career. He has posted her art several times and even met with her during his tour - such gratitude and appreciation of a fan really warms my heart. It tells me what I already knew: that he is such a fan himself, a great lover of everything that inspires him and open in his heart for the reciprocal love exchange between artists as the highest form of flattery. He’s had such situation in his career several times, on various levels, but this one with a fan feels truly rewarding.
Creative Sharka gives him her art, but it doesn’t have to be a tangible thing. One of the most revealing and emotional comments he wrote under a photo from one of his performances reveals so much. It is a photo whose focal point are the backs of two people, two guys, who are leaning against one another in a hug, their heads connected, and they are facing Adam singing on the stage in the background. They are in the forefront, their body language speaking of love; Adam is in the background, perhaps inspiring such connection. His comment says, “Really in luv w this photo. So sweet.” I’ve never read Adam saying that about any picture, and it’s one of the amateur, fan ones, too – and all the more precious for that.
But, does he always feel the love? Do we? Most of the times, I am sure that he does. But I have always imagined Adam as a highly emotional guy, which also means a great capacity for sadness, too, especially with so many reasons for it surrounding us. There is one, literally one sad comment that I have encountered during all these years. It’s under a photo of Frank the Robot’s head, taken before the show, with the top half of it waiting patiently to be connected with its bottom half by diligent Queen crew, so that Adam can ride it and spew obscenities into the audience from its shiny, metallic head. “Sad Clown,” is Adam’s caption. I don’t know if he felt bad for Frank at that moment, or the words are about Killer Queen, but there is a possibility that the words are about Frank’s rider later on. Sometimes, he does have to hide his sadness and paint his smile on. Who doesn’t.
He truly belongs to one of the rarest of species – a beautiful man who becomes even more beautiful when he opens his mouth and speaks. Or sings. In the pre-Trump, pre-Brexit, pre-Vučić era, I used to take his words for granted. I believed everybody thought so, or almost everybody. I was spectacularly wrong. The bout of sadness that gripped me then is still not easing up. How can it? This Weltschmerz has affected everyone with a soul - Adam, too. Will our physical reality ever satisfy the demands of our minds and souls ever again? I believe so, as long as there are people like Adam, like Emma Gonzalez, like many others who are fighting for it. That is what hope sounds like. With rising urgency, Adam speaks up.
“Black lives matter. For all of u who totally miss the point of this movement, the GOAL is for all lives to matter equally. But as it stands, racism is preventing us from that ideal. We must fix the reality so we can grow toward hope.”
We must fix the reality… We really do, Adam. Faced with such thoughts, don’t all previous words about promotion and lack of internet presence sound frivolous? I am glad that this is how Adam feels. I am so proud of him for sharing his thoughts.
When he posted a photo of Freddie, pointing out the hypocrisy of the ruling US political party using Freddie Mercury’s music, some people seemed to have an issue with that. This was Adam’s reply:
“I realize that there are many different schools of thought frequented by people following me on social media. EVERYONE is entitled to their opinions and beliefs. Including me. This is MY Instagram page where I share my experiences and feelings. If you don't agree with something, that's perfectly ok with me - but I'm not going to refrain from being me, and no one is forcing you to either.”
And refrained he has not.
He’s spoken against the gun violence.
He’s spoken about Orlando. About Paris. About all mass shootings.
He’s also spoken at the Los Angeles Pride Resist March last year. Here are some of his words:
“I typically avoid publicly speaking about politics because of its divisiveness. People get real sensitive, and I ain’t trying to piss anybody off. But, this year things have gone way too far.
So I’m not speaking today about being a democrat vs. a republican. Today is about right vs. wrong. The current presidential administration has manipulated the country using fear and hate to gain power to divide us. Our differences are being used against us. And the shockwaves of this dangerous rhetoric have rippled throughout our community and beyond. And it fucking hurts. We’ve come way too far to stand by and watch our social progress be yanked backwards. It’s almost as if they’re going, ‘Eh, you’re different. You can’t sit with us.’ What the fuck is that? It’s childish and it needs to end now.
Our pride parade is usually an all out shit show of a party where we all dress up like crazy unicorns and prance around through the streets. Yeah! It’s a celebration of the progress we have made – our liberation, our freedom, our glitter. But this year, we are facing such dark forces that pride has taken on a deeper purpose. Protest. So today, we stand together in order to support anyone whose human rights are at risk. We resist homophobia. We resist transphobia. We resist misogyny. Bi-invisibility. We resist racism. Xenophobia. And we resist extremism, and anything else that helps promote hate. We stand defiant and will not be brainwashed. We refuse to be sucked into that kind of negativity.
But, I ask you not to fight hate with hate. We don’t want to be hypocrites. So how can we resist? I’ll tell you what I think: with unity, with visibility, truth, inclusion, acceptance, and most importantly – love.”
Don’t his words boom loud? Read them and abide by them. Don’t scroll through or ignore them.
Shame on those who think that Adam should only do his job and stop voicing his opinions and views.
Shame on those who, blinded by his beauty, refer to him as a Ken doll.
Shame on those who say that he is back in the closet.
In his Love Letter to the LGBTQ community, which was published in Billboard magazine last year, he talks more about what his community means to him:
“Y'all are my true inspiration. You're life lines that have kept me grounded and thankful. All the LGBTQ musicians, dancers, drag queens, bar stars, club kids, DJ's, designers, actors, stylists, glam squads..... YOU are my circus family. It is because of all those years traipsing round our nocturnal playgrounds that I had any sense of how and why I wanted to stay the course; to rep for my queer family!
And now 8 years later, the LGBTQ community has come SO far. I see fellow artists AND civilians coming out with no apologies and no fucks given. Despite the current obstacles we face, I am blown away by our progress. We have come so far. My true fans share the same principles so we continue to welcome other alien weirdos into our family. Thank you ALL for inspiring and supporting my journey. I promise to keep doing the same for all of you.”
Should he speak more frequently? Adam has voiced his opinions time and again, but he won’t misuse the opportunity given to him. He has a sophisticated sense for not crossing the line between his art and his humanitarian fight. He never pushes anything under anyone’s nose; not his art; not his fight. He never uses just causes as a self-promoting opportunity.
This is all part of the reply to the question from the beginning about what the lack of social presence can mean. His social presence isn’t lacking, it is just of the unobtrusive kind. It’s all out there, only a few clicks away. Are we so used to the constant media shoveling content down our metaphorical throats that we can’t even register when something’s said only once?
Apparently, I am. Because I have already read Adam Lambert’s own explanation about deciding to moderate his social media presence and it hasn’t even made a blip on my radar at the time. I won’t tell you where his words are from, you can try to guess. It’s a direct quote. It says everything.
How pathetic now seems the discussion about flattering vs. less flattering photos? Don’t ask this man about the size of his gauges for a hundredth time and expect him to engage with his fans more. But Adam does, he does engage, for he isn’t a mean man and he answers the same trivial questions again and again. It’s perhaps a much better option than talking, I don’t know, about Weltschmerz. Sometimes, such discussions are better avoided, and not only that - he has already said what he wanted to say. It’s much more bearable to repeat the silly topics than the raw, emotional ones. The repetition hurts, and devalues the latter.
It really is a journey, from Grandma June, to cultivating self-love and True Individuality; only not to the heart of darkness, but to the one of lightness. It’s all him, the philosopher and the comedian, the Frank’s head rider and the march speaker. Read his words. Don’t forget them, like I did. Laugh with him, but also think with him and be sad with him.
“True Individuality seems daunting in our age of social media popularity contests. Sometimes it’s terrifying to face your true, whole self, stripped of any pretense. The good, the bad, the cracks, and the scars. I am no stranger to the feeling of not liking myself. Once I get past my own body image issues, I realize that I sometimes also neglect my own spirit. Living in a world filled with so much hatred sometimes makes cultivating self-love a very difficult task. I have always struggled with this as I’m sure many of you have. My path is a kind of paradox in that I get to share my craft with the world, but also be willing to throw myself to the wolves. To dare to be different, but still wanting to be accepted. There is vast beauty to be found in life’s contradictions. This non-binary reality allows us to lead happy, expressive lives, and yet this very freedom comes with great risks. I’m not alone in this limbo. Through my art, I pledge to bring empathy and courage to anyone who has been made to feel unworthy or ashamed while daring to be themselves.”
***
~The sources for everything mentioned in the essay are Adam Lambert’s social media pages. I’ve decided against posting any links because I feel like this one reference is enough.
~No photos either, since I mention too many of them and this bloody thing is too long already. Just this one.

One of the most memorable movie moments growing up as a kid was watching a film where #Frankenstein gets sucked into a whirpool / black hole as he says goodbye to a little girl and takes her stuffed animal as a memento. I remember that scene always made me feel emotional.. a bittersweet feeling, as Frankenstein has been and will always be my favorite monster. As I got older, I forgot the movie's name, but always remembered it fondly. It wasn't until college when a friend wore a #frightrags shirt that said "Wolfman's Got Nards" with a gnarly wolfman design on it, that I immediately recognized it, and asked him from what movie it was!?, for which he simply replied "Monster Squad dude." I went home that night looking for a copy of the film online, but to no avail.... A few more years went by and during a lunch break, some co-workers and I went to the mall and lo and behold there it was... like finding a lost treasure, the 20th anniversary double disc dvd of The Monster Squad. I had finally found it and got it without hesitation. Watching the movie that night brought back so many happy memories. It made me feel like I could take on all the monsters in the world! It also reminded how much I wanted a treehouse fort! Flash forward 10 years later and I've done two art shows in tribute to the Monster Squad and have gotten to meet and work with a lot of the amazing people behind it. I still find it very surreal. There's a lot of "kids dealing with weird shit" movies out there, but the Monster Squad is king by far! It's a feel good / spooky ride that I can put on anytime. It always makes me smile from ear to ear and has led me to forge some great friendships around the world. I guess you could say that the squad is an international phenomenon now. A movie that can do that is just magic. Fred Dekker, thank-you for making this film and for the inspiration you've given me and the world all these years and for years to come. YOU rule! #AndreGower & #RyanLambert, thank-you for making me part of the g@ddamn club! Happy 30th Monster Squad! Fandom, Fanfiction and the Good Old Days
Or:
The Journey of a Fanfic Writing, Fandom Old School Fujoshi Lesbian
…who kinda wishes modern fandom would learn to get along…
When I first got involved with fanfiction, which was actually even farther back then my first posted fic on the Pit of Voles (Which was already well before it became known as such), we didn’t have tags. We didn’t even really have ratings at first. We didn’t mark things “mxm rated:m soandsointhealley” or whatever.
We were a smaller group and had our own words and labels. We marked our fics “Slash/Femslash” or “Yaoi/Yuri” if it included it, and didn’t mark at all if there was Het. We labeled it “Lime/Lemon/Full of citrus-y goodness/PWP” if there was sex, and nothing at all if there wasn’t. Unless it was super fluffy. Then it was “WAFF”. I don’t even remember warning for violence, character death, or kinks. Fanfiction was a bit “read at your own risk.”
There was a distinct “don’t like it, don’t read it” belief among us, and trolls who sent flames of the “I hate this couple/kink/fandom - you are a sick person for writing this” variety tended to get their asses banned.
This was both back in the days of yahoo groups, fanfiction mailing lists, and even farther back to Telix and Bulletin boards. For the young ones out there, let me take a moment to explain.
First, fandom was not invented by the world wide web. It existed long before that. Through conventions, fanzines, and computer bulletin boards. Yes, before the world wide web, fans still used computers to connect. As opposed to typing in websites, we connected to our boards through phone numbers.
Boards tended to be fandom specific. Sometimes Genre. Sci-Fi (And we called it Sci-Fi back then none of this “true fans call it Science Fiction” stuff) boards, Fantasy boards, Horror boards, Anime boards, etc. You had a handle you logged in with to post, then you logged off, hung up the call, and dialed up the next board to geek out on a different subject. (And Telemarketers were eeevil. Because they called your phone, broke your connection and your post was lost and you had to retype the whole thing. And did they ever call on a post you typed up in 30 seconds? No, they always called on the ones it took you 20 minutes to type, gdi.)
The only old handle I remember at this point was Echo on a board that was Battlestar Galactica fandom named, but general science fiction and fantasy fandom based. And I only remember because I named myself after my favorite Greek Myth.
Anime especially this was a big deal for. This was my teenage years, so even most fans of regular science fiction and fantasy believed all anime=pr0n.
I discovered anime when my mother rented out a room to a fellow geek friend of my eldest sister. He had some magazines with pieces of Area 88, which I was fascinated by. Then he loaned out a copy of Ranma ½ to us and I fell down the rabbit hole and never climbed back out.
Anime and manga was very hard to come by. Seriously, guys, you don’t even know. We had PO boxes we exchanged recorded vhs through with fellow fans cuz aside from conventions or travelling to Japan, it was not available to buy. I had one copy of Tenchi Muyo’s first episode I got at a convention and nothing else for years. Though one fellow fan hit me up with a recorded vhs of official Tenchi MVs and the VA concert, which still remains one of my fandom treasures.
We also transcribed episodes for each other. That was how I got into and followed numerous series back in my teenage years. Transcribes.
Gosh, I feel old typing all this. Like some little old bitty yelling “Get off my grass!”
I don’t think I got into Yaoi/slash until after the www. Well, no, not exactly true. I remember peeking at the folded inserts in the RightStuf Catalogs and dreaming of buying Fake and Kizuna, but never daring to explore my interest until after the www when Mailing Lists and Yahoo groups was a thing. I remember when Fake was first sold at bookstores, sneaking over on my lunch break at work to buy each book as it came out, and hiding them in my purse the rest of the day. (I was lucky I didn’t work for a company that did bag checks back then.) They were kept in a shoe box under my bed and away from my roommate’s prying eyes.
Cuz while anime fans were slowly gaining acceptance, slash and yaoi fans were still the black sheep of the family. We may have claimed the Fujoshi title for our own over the years, but never forget it was very much an insult when first invented. I still know plenty of anime fans that look down at us.
I am kinda mad at some of my fellow lgbt folks who are bashing the yaoi/slash/yuri/femslash fandoms. The first yuri I ever read was pretty obviously some straight guy’s lesbian fantasy, but I didn’t go around screaming about wrecking my dreams of societal norms or what-not. Hell, I was just glad there was anything out there at all for someone coming into her own as a lesbian to read.
Many of the best known lgbt films and movies were made long after my sixteen year old self realized she wasn’t going boy crazy like her school friends, and those films were hard to come by in early years as well. So instead I got involved in slash/femslash/yaoi/yuri fanfiction and bought yaoi manga, and bitorrented yuri manga - cuz it was even harder to come by. And, yah, some of it sucked. Some of it was weird. But you can say the same for any genre, and especially any fanfiction of any genre, out there. I will never apologize for my love of these fandoms.
“Don’t like it, don’t read it.”
I mean, hate a specific show/book/etc all you want. Rant about it, in fact, I am good for it. I know I have. (You do not want to give me permission to say anything at all about Twilight or Fifty Shades of Grey. Or the food served in the Hunger Game Series, cuz I kinda like the series but omg, the food is so off basis for… NM. Geez, see what happens when you get me going?)
What you do not do is come onto a post someone made about loving something and proceed to flame it and call it names and the poster names and generally be an all around Troll.
And yes, the modern fans could stand to learn a lesson or two about not arguing back with you people. As we used to say:
“Don’t feed the trolls.”
Another favorite:
“Flames will be used to keep me warm at night.”
But is it really so hard to click that back button instead?
And, yes, I am aware a few of my fellow Fujoshis can be obnoxious and also need to learn to not troll. But basing your opinion of us on one internet troll is like the old “Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Gaming/Anime/etc” Geeks are all losers who live in their parents basements trope. (As if these weren’t expensive hobbies in need of seriously hard earned cash to maintain!)
But really, rinse and repeat:
“Don’t feed the trolls.”
Can’t we all just get along?

Cheap Large Format Printing Design Preparation
Preparations Necessary to Make Large Format Printing
Most of you know how to print a standard size picture. They are easy to capture, design and edit. You do not need specialized skills to get the best output from the standard sizes of pictures. But when you want to print a large format printing, things are slightly different. The first and most important factor is the resolution of the image. No matter whether you are capturing the image or getting it designed resolution matters. While designing an image, even the best designers tend to make a mistake with the resolution.
When capturing the image with a camera, you can still worry less about the picture resolution. All you need to do is get a good camera with greater resolution. Sometimes it is possible to modify or change the resolution of an image during the post-production process. Yes, the advanced designing software can get you a good resolution. But these cannot provide or guarantee optimum output. There is nothing better than the original resolution. This article will help you make the necessary preparation before printing a picture in large format.
What are the large format pictures?
Large format picture is bigger. They come with greater picture resolution and enhanced clarity. Since these pictures are huge every detail matters. A pixelated image is not what you can call a great image quality. So when you see a clear and grain-free image, you know it is just perfect.
Some common large-format picture types include big posters, billboards, banners, and placards. Hence it is mandatory to get a clear and detailed image. This will ensure to grab the attention of people. The large-format images use separate printers. These are oversized pictures and they need special printers to get the best results. They should be printed in a way so they are visible clearly from a good distance. For example, the movie banners that you see outside a movie hall are also a large format image.

Most Popular Large Format Prints
The cheap poster prints are one of the most common and popular large format prints. Posters are found everywhere and they come in different sizes. Almost every day large posters are printed for some of the other purposes. No matter what the size, even a small size poster should be visible from a good distance. The more you increase the size, the more resolution it will need. Posters are also printed in different paper types. They can range from glossy coatings to matte finishes. Some of the other large format prints include yard signs, window signs, wall coverings, banners, and vinyl banners.
Design Tips to Prepare Large Format Prints
The design styles for printing large format prints vary with the size. The print surface is another important factor. The paper quality will determine how the print will settle with the surface. Here are some tips that you should follow while preparing to print for a large format.
Pay attention to the Megapixels
An image that appears with great clarity on the big screen may not look the same when printed. It’s because the image is not transferred into the paper in the same way. When you print a picture on paper it is likely to get stretched or enlarged. Hence calculating the resolution and pixels will help you keep the image quality exact after printing it. When you try printing an image more than its actual size, that image will be naturally pixelated.
Use Large file format
This is the very first step where you can take control of the image quality and resolution. When you use a bigger file extension, it will automatically store more image data. For example, if you are using the RAW file format instead of JPEG, you are sure to get a better image quality. JPEG file format is good for storage; hence it stores the images in compressed form. During post-production, this becomes a major problem. You will already lose a good amount of data.
When you capture the image in RAW format, the image data can be stored securely. A RAW file format will indeed take more storage place, but when you want quality, compromise the storage. These days you can also find memory cards with increased storage and at low prices. Use a camera with maximum megapixels to get higher resolution.
Stop Resizing Images
If you have been using the resize option to enlarge the image and resolution, stop this immediately. This is not the way you get a clear image with quality. It is okay to make an image smaller. However, the resize option is never useful to enlarge an image. This can turn your picture even more heavily pixelated.
Use a scanner for enlarging images
This step may not be appropriate for large posters. But if you have a standard sized cheap printed posters, you can use a scanner to enlarge the picture. Some printers come directly with scanners. For old images and those with low resolution can be enlarged with the help of a scanner.
Using Professional Services
If you do not have the right printing equipment at home, you will naturally seek professional help. When you want to enlarge and particular image and then get it printed, make sure to provide the printer with the highest image quality. Whether you opt for the professional service providers in your local area or paid services online, the image should be of high quality.
What the image resolution for large format printing?
There is a big difference between printing small-format images and large format images. Roughly, the printing resolution for small size images like flyers, business cards, postcards, and brochures is 300 DPI. This means every square inch will accommodate a big amount of dots. But for images that do not require too many details can be completed approximately 72 DPI.
Color Process Vs Digital Large format printing
These are two separate processes of printing large size images. Depending on the number of copies you need and the size, printers choose one of these methods. For example, if you want to print 100 units of signs with not more than two colors, this will be cheaper with the help of a digital large format machine. But if you want to print a single but huge banner, preparing color plates for each unit could be very expensive. It is not worth the money and effort. For this, you need to go with a process that is cheaper than the digital large format printing process.
Single or Dual color printing for Large Format
Most signs that are bigger are elementary in design and use not more than two colors. They do so to avoid using the digital printing machine. This is where the color transfer method becomes important to make the design fit the requirements. This also saves you a lot of money. When you are using this format you can easily use the RGB color format instead of CMYK. In that case, you need to use separate colors for each layer. This will make it easier for the colors to perforate the color plates later.
Full-Color Design
When you are using a full-color design, the process is much easier. There is no need to separate colors in different layers. Moreover, you also do not need to use CMYK to make the colors on your screen dull. To get a good resolution you can set the resolution somewhere near to 72 DPI.
Impacts of Editing on Large Format Pictures
Editing is an important requirement for every professional photographer. Most pictures you see these days go through the editing process, before getting printed. Just like good editing can improve or enhance the image quality, too much editing can ruin the image. If you want to retain the image in good quality, it is important to keep editing to the lowest. When you are using professional editing software you can trust the quality.
Too much editing can ruin the picture quality when you enlarge it. It will lose details and you may find a bad texture on the image as well. When you want to print a large-format picture, you should pay special attention to the editing process. Since the image will get enlarged, the chances of developing a rough texture on the image are always there. Too much of editing will destroy the overall image quality. In the end, you will not get the image in its true form.
Purpose of Large Format Images
Businesses are heavily dependent on these types of images to grab customer’s attention. Since they always want to get more attention from people for their products, large format images are in great demand. It is a great way to introduce business to the customers. Large images are good to draw public attention. People can notice it from a great distance.
youtube
These types of images can be used for endless applications. Although they require a separate printer, these prints are very interesting. These prints can be designed in unique ways and with bold colors. This easily helps brands and businesses to create an impact in public. It can get the attention it deserves from a big crowd.
If you want to design a good poster, do with the help of professional software. But you can also take help from a professional designer or agency to get the work done. They can provide you exceptional designs at great prices. Depending on the size you are looking to print, these prints may take longer to get printed than the normal images. But one thing that you can be sure of is attention. These types of posters are attractive for the size. Hence they stand appropriate for most business campaigns.

My Top 8 Female Video Game Lead Characters
In recent years (possibly even recent decades), the idea that a video game hero or lead character has to be a male has changed. Going back as far as the original Metroid with Samus, we’ve had some really strong female leads across a variety of different genres. That is a real sign of progress that I, for one, am really happy about. There are some great role models in video games for my daughter.
So, I wanted to show my admiration for this trend by listing off my top 7 female video game lead characters!
8. Claire Redfield
The first female lead character on this list has to be Claire Redfield, first introduced to the world in Resident Evil 2. However, rather than a lot of female characters in the genre (outside of the Last Girl trope in movies), Claire starts off strong and just grows from there. She never backs down from adversary, even when facing off against the likes of Birkin or Mr. X. From there, Claire goes off to Europe to take on Umbrella and search for her missing brother entirely alone.
If you ever need to understand just how incredible Claire is, you just need to watch the intro video of Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Claire infiltrated a guarded Umbrella complex, takes out a bunch of guards and outruns a helicopter that is shooting at her!
7. Lara Croft
Naturally, Lara Croft was always going to be on this list, wasn’t she? I mean, how could she not be? Lara is the poster character for strong female leads in video games. She’s done it all, including going up against Egyptian gods, a T-Rex and a supernatural Japanese goddess as well. Lara has travelled across the world, taking on countless enemies and creatures along the way.
She has famously been a badass in both movies and games, so she definitely makes it onto this list of my top female lead characters. However, there are a few female lead characters that I think deserve a bit more attention than her.
6. Samus Aran
Whilst Lara is the most famous big-name female lead character in video games, Samus got the most memorable moment of an introduction, or rather “reveal”. Players went through the entirety of the original Metroid, a science fiction platforming shooter with massive exploration, assuming that they were playing a male character. I mean, at the time, that was just the way it was. However, once you finish the game you are treated to a scene where it is revealed that you were playing as a female character all along.
This one moment broke the trend of video games at the time, showing that a female character can be an absolutely amazing and super strong hero as well. Because of that, Samus gets a place on this list above Lara. Lara is famous, but Samus largely opened the door for strong female lead characters in video games.
5. Commander Shephard
Sticking with the science fiction genre for this entry, Commander Shephard is next. Yes, you can play Shep as a male, but you can also play as the nicknamed Fem-Shep without any of the action and adventure being toned down. Shep manages to save the galaxy on more than one occasion, and even death couldn’t stop her! She is able to negotiate any problem through both diplomacy and the barrel of a rifle.
On top of that, Shep ends up taking it on herself to stop the Reapers from destroying all sentient and intelligent life in the galaxy, becoming a true legend throughout the stars. She is incredibly powerful, both in terms of her smarts, wit and skill in battle.
4. Ellie
Easily the youngest character on this list, Ellie starts off The Last of Us as someone you have to escort. Initially, you feel like she is going to be a burden, like Ashley from Resident Evil 4. However, that idea is quickly destroyed and shattered into pieces by her demeanour and abilities. Ellie is a more than capable fighter, no matter whether she is up against humans, clickers or any other mutation caused by the cordyceps virus.
Plus, from what we have seen of The Last of Us Part 2, she has become even more independent, able to take on waves of fully armed people with her whits and combat ability. Ellie is an amazing and inspirational character who more than deserves to be on this list.
3. Aloy
No list of amazing female leads would be complete without Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn. Starting out the game as an outcast, she trains herself up to earn a spot within a tribe, dealing with robot dinosaurs and madmen with Gatling guns to do so. She explores the ruined, post-apocalyptic world that has been infested with these robots entirely on her own, hunting and scavenging all the way.
She knows and trusts herself, which is a great mentality for a role model to have. Aloy is strong, fast and really clever, making her own way in a world that constantly wants to push her back down.
2. Koudelka Iasant
For those of you who have come to know me and my taste in games through this blog, it might come as a surprise that Koudelka isn’t in the number one spot. However, she is still one of my favourite examples of a strong female lead character. Koudelka takes charge throughout the game, constantly putting both James and Edward in their place. She is also the strongest human character in the game with her psychic abilities.
Koudelka has gone through some terrible events in her past, overcoming them all to turn into a strong and fiercely independent character who can more than handle herself in almost any situation. If that’s not a great example of a powerful female lead, I don’t know what is!
1. Aya Brea
So we come to the number 1 slot, and you were probably wondering who could beat Lara Croft. Well, there are just some characters that I feel are stronger than she has been overall. Obviously, Lara is incredible and that’s why she is on this list, but Aya Brea has been a badass since the very beginning. Starting off her adventures against the Mitochondria monsters of the Parasite Eve games as a rookie police officer in New York City, she has experienced some true horror!
The first game had her fight off the birth of what is effectively a God amongst men, dealing with the murder and mutation of hundreds of people and overcoming her own inner demons along the way. Then, the second game featured giant monsters with flamethrowers in their mouths, betrayal, super soldiers and even more! Aya pushed through all of this to always come out on top, and she did it almost entirely alone!
And That’s All Folks
That was the list of my 8 favourite strong female lead characters in video games. There are, of course, a whole host more that could have been mentioned in this but these 8 amazing characters get the top spots for me, personally.
Who are your favourite female characters in video games? Let me know in the comments below!

Slides from my presentation. I wanted to represent my visual understanding of Steyerl’s essay In Defence of the Poor Image. The transcript/notes is as follows: I’m going to be presenting Hito Steyerl’s essay, ‘In Defense of the Poor Image’, published on e-flux in 2009. Who is Hito Steyerl? Born in 1966 in Munich, Hito Steyerl is an artist working with research and narrative driven filmmaking, installation works (image 2), and writer of prominent art essay texts/critiques. Steyerl also lectures New Media Art at University of the Arts, Berlin. (image 3) Last year, Steyerl became the first female to take number one position in ArtReview’s Power 100 list. Steyerl is a female artist with major influence who centers her work towards politics of computers and hypermodern technology in society, which brings us to ‘In Defense of the Poor Image’. (image 4) This is a still of television glitches from Shutterstock, representing a poor image at its most basic form. Published in online media, ‘In Defense’ is a commentary on the idolisation and use of images, which has arisen in the 21st century. Its critique is highly relevant as we view our online consumption in new perspectives.Steyerl leads the essay with an extended description of the term ‘poor image’. (image 5) A poor image is “a ghost of an image… distributed for free… compressed, reproduced, ripped, remixed, as well as copied and pasted”. Such as one of Thomas Ruffs jpeg series, where he deliberately is ruining already poor imagery. These images circulate and populate our visual experiences onlines, puncturing the sublime Instagram experience and festering in any Google Image search. Steyerl places them rock-bottom in the “class society of appearances, ranked and valued according to its resolution.” Post its introduction, ‘In Defense of the Poor Image’ breaks into 6 chapters, categorising poor images, their functions, applications, and societal impacts and reasonings for their existence. The first chapter, “Low Resolutions”, offers that images which are in focus, perfectly sharp and legible, are superior to those fuzzy and incomprehensible. Steyerl draws links from the ideal of the cinematic view - (image 6) utter perfection, “more mimetic and magic, more scary and seductive” than an experience of poor images. (This hyperreal Avengers poster is a representation of the cinematic view which dominated over poor images.) The following chapter, “Resurrection (as Poor Images)”, discusses the commercialisation of quality imagery and the subsequent exclusion of poor images. This exclusion applied to images that were “deemed too marginal to be broadcast on television”. In conjunction with experimental films and video essays, which were solely seen in special broadcastings at metropolitan film clubs, these images slipped away after a single screening, buried in a world of lesser than standard work. Steyerl then places reasons for a birth of “culture as a commodity”; the consumption of media was being impacted by monopolies and monetary drive towards the cinema, including control over “audiovisual in certain countries or territories.” (image 7) As a result - excluded imagery and its makers began to find various publicly accessible channels to position themselves on, even where they may not be curated or relevant to their intention. Sarah Jane Parton’s work can be seen on the online NZ archive Circuit - where it would have been otherwise unavailable for public consumption. Restriction of viewing has resulted in ‘leaked footage’, illegal recordings, and ‘rips’ of certain media, placing avant-garde and non-commercial cinema in the public sphere of the Internet - circulating now as poor images. Steyerl moves to “Privatization and Privacy”. She attests that poor images are being enabled to circulate with a larger frequency due to the “neoliberal restructuring of media production” and the demand for free, easily accessible media that is otherwise restricted by certain state laws and online rights. Disorganized privatisation, attributable to regional turmoil, leads to copies of precious materials being leaked, and transitioning through the world now as poor images. (image/video 9) Because “production of culture was considered a task of the state” but has since been vacuumed into a trillion dollar enterprise, poor images encourage piracy and media thievery. It’s too expensive for the average consumer to consider heading to the movies - why not pirate instead, in the comfort of your own home? Chapter #4, “Imperfect Cinema”. Steyerl begins this chapter by referencing a 1960s manifesto by Julio García Espinosa, For an Imperfect Cinema. She paraphrases that an ‘imperfect cinema’ “merges art with life and science, blurring the distinction between consumer and producer, audience and author.” Thus, an image or moving image that offers an alternative to the idealized ‘perfect image’, offers “an art of the people”. In regards to its visuality, it shares likeness with the poor image - often hurried, blurry, made by a dilettante or admirer of the arts. (image 10 neistat) While this opportunity is certainly appreciated and operated within, by being part of the world of poor images it opens itself up to a multitude of negative operations - “hate speech, spam, and other rubbish make their way through digital connections”. Steyerl iterates further by claiming that poor images are therefore the most desired images, on trend, fashionable, and enjoyed. (This is an image from Casey Neistats vlog protesting inhibited bike lanes in NYC) If we are to look at poor images as a whole, they make up a representation of the condition of the population who consumes them - and they certainly are being consumed through editing, remixing, reformatting, and simply spreading them into virality. We move to chapter #5, “Comrade, what is your visual bond today?”. (image/video 111) Unquestionably there is strong visual and cultural bonding in online consumption; the colloquial term for it is a “meme”, a poor image circulated which “reconnects dispersed worldwide audiences.” Steyerl positions meme culture as an opening for cross-cultural debate, utilizing globalisation and the power of the internet. (This video shot to worldwide memedom from 2007 when it was used in place of intended images or videos, pranking the receiver, garnering the term being “Rick-rolled”) Steyerl references “visual bonds”, a term from Soviet film director Dziga Vertov. Vertov imagined that popular imagery could create a type of community which could “not only inform or entertain, but also organize its viewers.” (image 12) We can recognize this statement when applied to multitudes of social media and its events, gatherings and so-called ‘organisations’ for a subculture of visual bonds AKA memes (These are real life events organised on Facebook where people can share interests together) (image 13) In her concluding section, “Now!”, Steyerl finalizes the text with ambiguous comments regarding the life of poor images. Poor images can easily be seen as an everyday encounter in the world of online consumption. They extend beyond our Internet interactions, reaching into personal relationships, resurfacing for that birthday post to your friends. Steyerl positions them as an important creation within a world filled with images, stating that the poor image is “about defiance and appropriation just as it is about conformism and exploitation. In short: it is about reality”. Welzie's Top 10 Surf Artist
As a lifelong artist, surfer and surfboard builder, I have kept my eyes on the Surf Art Scene for almost 20 years. This is my top 10 Surf Artists that you should know if you're into Surf Art. Although there is many talented artists out there in the Surf Art world, here are the ones that had the most impact and inspiration on my own Surf Art.
Drew Brophy
Heather Brown
Rick Griffin
Thomas Campbell
Andy Davis
Clark Little
Hilton Alves
Eric Able
Kevin Butler
John Van Hamersvel
1. Drew Brophy
Pretty Much the guy who sent me down the path of surf art, Posca Pens and drawing on surfboards. I came across his work in my teens, I was making art and boards at the time and straight up copied each one of Brohpy’s graphic designs. I would cut out the boards in the Surfer Magazine Board Buyers Guide with his work and practice and practice his lines and images. His work is probably the most well known surf artist out there. Thank you Drew Brophy for inspiring me for decades!
More Information At: http://drewbrophy.com
2. Heather Brown
Heather Brown has had the most impact on my art career. I had seen her art around the North Shore for years and finally was approached by “The Godmother of Surf Art” about doing a collaboration surfboard, Two Crows Surfboards x Heather Brown, I was stoked. Seeing her studio and operation for me was a game changer. I had always been making art, but from a naive perspective that I had to be dead and broke for the art to be legit. This is not the case and seeing what she has accomplished has driven me to make more art and share it with more people. Thank you Heather for all the inspiration!
More Information At: https://www.heatherbrownart.com
3. Rick Griffin
(June 18, 1944 – August 18, 1991)
The first surf artist I started recognizing. In fact I remember pulling out an page of The Surfers Journal that had one of Griffins old ads for Greg Noll Surfboards in the 1960’s. I framed the page and hung on my wall and copied his loose movements for the next 6 months. He was so prolific and captured the free spirit of the surfing subculture. A current artist who really reminds me of Griffins work is Yusuke Hanai from Japan. Worth checking out if you like Griffin’s work.
More Information At: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Griffin
4. Thomas Campbell
I started noticing Thomas Campbell’s work in my late teens, watching his surf movies and seeing his art around. His script work really impressed me and made me loosen up a lot in my work. Watching his art I realized I didn't have to do it like someone else, I just had to do it what came natural. I practiced cursive script for years during college, creating pages and pages of unreadable notes of script. Campbell’s work is really fun and playful and there is a lot of funny quirky saying in his work which I really like.

6. Clark Little
The only photographer on my list, but his viewpoint is one that surfers around the world chase every day. His work is copied by thousands of photographers now which really tells you he is doing something right. Clark Little’s success has really inspired me and gave me confidence that even though we are way out here on the North Shore of Oahu, we can still make our way in the world of art.

7. Hilton Alves
I mean no one else does bigger better perfect waves than Hilton Alves. Every surfer can see themselves in one of his paintings or has dreamed about it. His 101 perfect waves murals are so cool and I think Hilton is going to the moon with his artwork. What’s a Top 10 list of surf artists without the master wave painter?

8. Kevin Butler
Rad Cars with Surfboards on them
“Snuggles” we called him growing up in Santa Cruz. We had a crew of guys who drank beers and came up with silly ideas in my backyard while listing to Outcast in High School. Kevin was a part of the crew (DTC) and has had such a successful career as a creator for all the largest companies. His Rad Cars with Surfboards on them is so cool and unique and I think every surfer can relate to his simple yet nostalgic imagery of rad cars, with surfboards on them. So brilliant!

9. Eric Abel
I learned about Eric Able’s work through the Wyland Galleries here on Oahu and have fallen in love with his loose but techy designs of waves and the surfers natural environment. His color pallet and style just go so well together and really remind me of the cold waters of Norther California.

10. John Van Hamersvel - Endless Summer Poster
Though he would not specifically be a surf artist, his work is known to every surfer. The cover poster to Endless Sumer has to be one of the most Iconic surf images of all time. The Movie poster hung in my room as a kid for years and his use of bright colors contrasting the black silhouettes of a couple surfers standing with boards makes everyone feel like they want to be there on the beach.

That time Japan got an entire WWW post to itself...again, the Unni was not able to join us. ~ Beppin-san Empress: 'must achieve the goal no matter what' and she wants to do embroidery and sewing? *reads rest of the summary* Okay, it sounds somewhat interesting...historically speaking...considering it's the Japanese side of WWII...but I'm not currently curious enough to watch it. Ambassador: It sounds pretty interesting and also like it would be a great drama to watch for research, but I don't have time for it on any other grounds. Unni: -- ~ Hippocratic Oath Empress: Medical dramas + me don't usually work, but I haven't tried a Japanese one...and if it's only 5 epidsodes, I might go for it. :) Ambassador: Title + Keiko Kitagawa + plot is a powerful draw for this, and it's supposed to be only 5 episodes... I'll probably make time for it at some point. Unni: -- ~ Pretty Proofreader Empress: .............I really hope there's more to it than that...but given what's there, it would have to be something seriously fascinating to make me watch it. Ambassador: Obviously there is some crucial part of this plot that has been left out of the synopsis, because there's barely anything to arouse interest here. It has a few interesting actors but no. Unni: -- ~ Yuusha Yoshihiko to Michibikareshi Shichinin Empress: ehhhh...being revived to re-save the world sound tremendously depressing, and mixing Buddha with Desutaku doesn't interest me. Ambassador: I haven't tried any Japanese fantasy dramas yet (aside from anime) but this sounds... odd and... not interesting enough to tempt me. Unni: -- ~ Aibou: Season 15 Empress: More interesting than the previous ones...I think if I was looking for a another drama to watch, I might jump on this one. But...I'm kind of the opposite of looking for another drama to watch right now. Ambassador: It sounds pretty interesting but not quite the right combination to tempt me to pile yet another drama onto my already overloaded list. (Wait. CAN you have an overloaded list? If you can, mine is.) Unni: -- ~ Career Empress: I like the idea. And I feel like Japan is pretty good at this genre. But again...my list...so long... Ambassador: This sounds FUN with humor and some good opinion turnarounds coming up. I enjoy underdog stories, so I'm adding this one to my list. Unni: -- ~ Chef: Mitsuboshi no Kyushoku Empress: The kid angle intrigues me - the idea of a restaurant chef making food that children will actually eat sounds kind of fun. Mostly this reminds me that I need to get back to watching Master-God of Noodles... XD Ambassador: Naaaaaah, not really into cooking dramas. Unni: -- ~ Doctor-X: Season 4 Empress: Okay, this sounds like a total nightmare...either it's completely fake, in which case bo-ring and I don't care, or it's real, in which case HORRORS, that kind of patient-care nightmare makes me sick. No. Ambassador: I like power play dramas but in a medical melo setting..... no, don't think so. Unni: -- ~ Medical Team: Lady Da Vinci no Shindan Empress: ...I commend her quitting neurosurgery when she's hallucinating...and in general it sounds better than the last drama...but not better enough to make me watch it. Ambassador: This one however is intriguing because there is just enough mystery involved. I don't have time for it though. Unni: -- ~ Rental Kyuseishu Empress: I'm intrigued. Rent-a-Hero? I think I will at least stick it somewhere on my list. Ambassador: This sounds HILARIOUS and I'm adding it to my list. Unni: -- ~ The Last Cop [Remake of German TV series "Der letzte Bulle" which first aired in 2010.] Empress: Japanese remake of a German show...this could be intriguing. I don't know how many cop shows I can have on my list at one time...It's a maybe. XD Ambassador: It looks like it will be comedy and could totally be tons of fun, but it'll go on the 'check out' list. Unni: -- ~ Suna no Tou Empress: This sounds weird...and possibly treading the horror-line...but also just intriguing enough that it makes me super curious. I want to check it out. Ambassador: Oooooh a psycho thriller. Japan does psycho thrillers really well so I'm intrigued enough to try it. Unni: -- ~ Toge Empress: http://mydramalist.com/20124-toge-shoushimin-kuranaga-haruyuki-no-gyakushu The poster definitely captures the feel of the summary, and there is the possibility it could be hilarious...but I don't think I'm interested enough to check it out right now. If I hear good things about it, I would try it. XD Ambassador: I'M DYING and I need to see it. Unni: -- ~ We Married as a Job Empress: These situations are always so ridiculous...it's really hard to make marriage a thing people have to do...and I'm not really in the mood for another version of this. XD Ambassador: Yet another 'marriage of convenience' drama. Nope. Unni: -- ~ Cain to Abel Empress: The title intrigues me - the drama's poster makes me think they got Cain and Abel and Adam and Eve a little bit mixed up...but the trailer also intrigues me and I am putting it on my list. Ambassador: The title immediately snagged my attention, and the synopsis makes it sound like it will be brother against brother, which I usually love to watch. Also, the main actor is a favorite of a friend, who watched him in the movie Grasshopper and she says he's quite good, so I'm definitely watching this. Unni: -- ~ Cold Case [Remake of U.S. television series "Cold Case".] Empress: Remake intrigues me because what about the story was good enough to be remade...but again with the number of cop dramas I have on my list. Maybe later...XD Ambassador: COLOR ME INTRIGUED. Unni: -- ~ IQ 246 Empress: Okay...this is a different enough spin that I am seriously intrigued. Japanese Sherlock Holmes...I'm at least going to try it. XD Ambassador: O.O Sounds FASCINATING. It's going on my list. Unni: -- ~ The Sniffer [Remake of Ukrainian TV series "The Sniffer".] Empress: ........Then again some remakes are just strange. Why would you make a show like this in the first place, let alone remake it? Though maybe if I could conceptualize exactly HOW being able to smell really well could possbly help you solve crimes, I'd be more interested. The Girl Who Sees Smells at least had enough of a fantasy spin that I could go along with it...XD Ambassador: A) Japan seems to have a thing for 'Sherlockian dramas'- where crimes are solved by someone with unusual abilities b) they also have a thing for remakes All things considered, I'm interested. Unni: -- ~ Haikei, Minpaku-sama Empress: *tries not to yawn* My list is too long...XD Ambassador: Naaaaah, mind numbing family melodrama. If I want that, all I have to do is look around me IRL. Meisa Kuroki makes it tempting, but I just don't have time or interest enough. Unni: -- ~ Kuroi 10-nin no Onna Empress: *howls* There's a solution, I guess....XD Like...they have more than an inkling of each other's existence and all plot together to murder him, or do they all get fed up with him at the same time and individually try to murder him, or...I...am not sure what to think of this. Why can't they leave him? If there was a character who was likable, I would watch it...but if it's about 10 adulterers and a nasty wife, I can't really see enjoying it. Ambassador: Absolutely watching this. It's very much my kind of drama. So much. Empress: *grins* It really is. Please tell me if there is someone I would like in it who would make me want to watch it. XD Ambassador: Watch me excitedly email you after the second episode and drag you into watching it with me. Unni: -- ~ Ishikawa Goemon Empress: I feel like I should watch some of the other similar ones I have on my list before this one, but...it can't hurt to put it the end, right? XD Ambassador: Oooooh, another Goemon drama! Count me in. Unni: -- ~ Unmei ni, Nita Koi Empress: Eh...naw. Ambassador: Mmmm, no. Not enough time, not enough interest, not enough etc etc. Unni: -- ~ Chuushingura no Koi Empress: I am intrigued. It's not too long, and it looks really interesting. XD Ambassador: YES, for THE PLOT and DAITO SHUNSUKE. I wasn't terribly impressed with Emi Takei in the RK movies, but here's hoping she'll be good. Unni: -- ~ Suisho no Kodou Empress: This is a better synopsis of some of the others...I'm intrigued...but still. Too many dramas about policemen/detectives/etc. Ambassador: I don't knooow. It could be interesting but it doesn't sound particularly gripping. Probably not. Unni: -- ~ Sennyuu Sousa Idol Deka Dance Empress: And here we see the effect of all those detective dramas... -__- Though okay, this is the kind of twist on it that intrigues me. Detective that wants to be a detective because of entertainment gets stuck in entertainment industry undercover? I think I'm at least going to put it on my list. XD Ambassador: Probably yes, mainly for DAITO SHUNSUKE. Unni: -- Which of these Japanese dramas are YOU interested in watching?
