Arches National Park
The park's arches and other formations were created over millions of years by erosion and weathering. Rainwater dissolves carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, creating carbonic acid, which reacts with the rock and breaks it down.

Moab, Utah, United States: Moab is the largest city and county seat of Grand County in eastern Utah in the western United States, known for its dramatic scenery. Moab attracts many tourists annually, mostly visitors to the nearby Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. The town is a popular base for mountain bikers who ride the extensive network of trails including the Slickrock Trail, and for off-roaders who come for the annual Moab Jeep Safari. Wikipedia

Potash Local
In the days of mega mergers: not sure if this was the Denver, Rio Grande & Western, the Southern Pacific, or the Union Pacific (officially) when I took this photograph. The train is headed south from the east/west mainline at Crescent Junction. The locomotives hint at this confusion with the lead unit of the D&RGW and the trailing one showing COTTON BELT, which was part of the SP. In any case, this image was made along what was Rio Grande's branch line down to Moab, Utah. I know it's silly to have had black and white film in my Hasselblad that day, but I did not know (being a Midwesterner) at that time in my life how wonderful the color of the landscape would be.
One image by Richard Koenig; taken in the summer of 1996.
