Okay listen, it is going to go back up on ao3 I promise it's not abandoned I just have so many ideas and it needs more structure and I'm pretty sure something that was in chapter 3 should not have been revealed until way later.
Here's a lil snippet and I'll let everyones imagination guess what this fic is about!
“It has been nearly twenty years since that night, I haven’t seen Alphard in nearly eighteen. And yet, every day I miss my brother.”
“Yet you signed the papers,” Regulus reminds him. "Like I said, it’s my duty.” He hates how something waivers in his voice. Weakness. His face is burning with it. “My family will–” Cygnus cuts him off laughing.
“Your family’s power is slipping through their fingers like water. This isn’t merely a continuation of the line, Regulus. You are the only living heir of the Noble House of Black. Our family has a centuries long dynasty, and it has never been more fragile than right now.”
Regulus swallows thickly, unable to muster up any words to go against him. Everything he’s said is true, but some pathetic voice in his head cowers from it.
“This is a…unique situation. You have more control than you think.”
“And what, exactly, are my other options,” Regulus glowers, hands clenching on the arms of his chair. “They may be slipping, but our family has enough influence to make my life a living hell. My brother barely escaped, and he had somewhere to go. I–” his voice wavers. Murmured promises invading his thoughts. Soft touches, and lazy mornings. “There is nowhere on this earth I can run to where they can’t find me. And even if there was a way out, all it would do is drag my brother back into this mess. I won’t do that.”
Cygus pauses for a long moment, staring Regulus down like he can see right through him.
“While two of my daughters, along with most others in the Sacred Twenty Eight, have pledged their allegiance to a man with aquestionable connections to us, I have remained impartial.” His voice is calm, too collected for all his talk of betraying the very thing they were pieced together to create. It’s starting to set Regulus’ teeth on edge. “This has led certain powerful players to reach out to me, inquire about my position in all this.”
Powerful players.
“I have no intention of promising my loyalty to Albus Dumbledore.”
Cygnus finally smiles, “and what about to Minerva Mcgonagall?”
