Lazy Night (TF2 OC fic)

Just putting this under a cut for length reasons, and for the fact that there’s mentions of periods, obvious mentions of past sexual actions, and a part talking about some sticking out junk stuffs. Just keeping the eyeballs of those who don’t wanna or can’t read this safe, y’know.

The day had been slow. The past three or four days had been the same way.

Hibana and Cody sat on Cody's bed in his room quietly, the only noises heard being the quiet hum of the central air unit in the house and Cody's occasional soft sighs as he focused on his book. The whole house had been peacefully silent the whole day aside from a little noise here and there of the others walking from one place to another, the occasional cough or clearing of someone's throat, or beeps from the microwave in the kitchen, which isn't too common with Cody and his team. There's almost always at least two people talking and/or other things going on with other things in the house, like the TV being watched or a video game being played.

Hibana had been leaning on Cody for a while with his head rested on Cody's, his eyes closed as he enjoyed the peace. He opened them again as he forced himself out of nearly falling asleep and looked around for a moment. He sat up a bit and looked down at what exactly Cody was reading out of curiosity. Cody had made it clear to him that if he didn't explicity say no one could see, or he didn't look like he was trying to hide anything, that Hibana could read over his shoulder anytime. It was something about the female reproductive system, Hibana could guess that much based on how it was focusing on menstrual cycles on the pages Cody had reached in the book. A big word Hibana had never seen before caught his eye and he focused on it, trying to look at it a bit before trying to pronounce it. Cody knew Hibana was reading over his shoulder, and pretended he was still reading what was on the pages despite being long done already. The complete concentration Hibana was giving off as he intensely stared at the word could very easily be sensed by Cody.

"Dees-menor... Dies-meenor... Dies-menor-heeah..?" Hibana struggled as he tried to pronounce the word out loud.

Cody felt a large pang of sadness hit him. Hibana had been trying to pronounce the word 'dysmenorrhea' and failed miserably. He looked up at Hibana, and the slightly hopeful look he got in return filled him with even MORE sadness. All he could bring himself to do was shake his head. The way Hibana's hopeful expression sank to a little sulk made Cody feel his heart sink completely. Hibana looked away and the sulk became more obvious.

"Hey, Hibana..." Cody said softly. "Don't get so down... I can teach you how to read better if you want me to.."

That was an even worse hit to Hibana's pride. First he embarrassed himself butchering a word so badly that Cody didn't even speak, but now he pities him enough to want to waste his time on teaching Hibana to read better? He couldn't help but feel like he was being too much of a burden from this, but also that he didn't need it enough to be so worried about it. He's gotten this far with only being able to read enough to get things signed for work and be able to function well enough in everyday life, so why does he need to learn now? He was also getting the suspicion that he was just overthinking it because of past paranoias too.

"I'm fine with my reading level now. Thank you, though."

"Hibana." Cody replied, an ever so slight bit more stern, but still mostly softspoken, "that look you made when I shook my head says enough. Please. If you're worrying about it bothering me, that isn't the case at all. I wouldn't have even brought it up if I didn't mean that I would really teach you and didn't want to, and you know that. Just... please?"

Hibana thought it over for a minute and sighed, finally looking back at Cody again.

"...Fine. But I doubt you'll be able to teach me much."

Hibana wasn't expecting a laugh from Cody and the confident smile he gave in response.

"Dude, I taught SCOUT enough to get him to MY level in a span of around... four... five weeks? I also taught him a majority of both Spanish and Italian, enough to qualify him as fluent in both. I could've taught him faster but he was being stubborn on it."

Hibana looked at Cody in surprise, an eyebrow arching up as his curiosity peaked. Cody taught Scout? And he was as good as Cody now? He seemed just as dumb as ever though... Then again, he never was reading books or anything so Hibana wasn't really sure anymore the more he thought about it.

"Did you... have a schedule for him? What times did you teach him and how long did your teachings last each time?" Hibana asked with interest.

"I taught him almost every day during the timeframe I mentioned. The lessons lasted from one to three hours depending on what I wanted him to learn and do for what I had in mind, and how stubborn he was being. I dominantly teach interactively so I doubt you'll take anywhere near as long as he did." Cody replied.

Hibana thought it over again. It didn't take him long to nod his head and agree this time.

"Alright, deal. But before we start, because I want to soon, WHAT is that fucking word I tried to read?"

"Dysmenorrhea." Cody said calmly, no more sadness in his expression or anything of the sort. Only compassion.

"Dysmenorrhea..." Hibana repeated quietly. "Dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea. What does dysmenorrhea mean?"

"It's a big word for period cramps." Cody said bitterly as a hand went down to rest just under his stomach.

Hibana winced a little and nodded in understanding. Cody had a hard time with them, enough to make him double over in pain sometimes. Hibana went back to leaning on Cody again and closed his eyes after that. Cody put the bookmark he had for the book at the next page and closed the book, setting it on the nighstand next to him and situating to lay down and cover himself up.

"Isn't it a little early to be going to sleep Cody?" Hibana asked him, confused by his actions so suddenly.

Cody reached under his pillow and pulled out his 3DS, turning it on to check the time.

"No, it's past midnight. 12:36, see?" He turned it around to show Hibana, grinning when Hibana's expression became one of surprise again.

Hibana shrugged and took off the shirt he wore. He had become comfortable and trusting enough with Cody at this point to do this a lot when he stayed over for a night or more. Cody did the same with his own after turning the 3DS back off and placing it back under his pillow. Hibana tried not to show the blush that threatened to brush against his cheeks as he saw the bra Cody was wearing, and had to try even harder whan Cody shuffled around a bit to also get the sweatpants he wore taken off and tossed onto the floor.

"What? We've had sex plenty of times, Hibana, what's that shy look for? Don't tell me you think I'm too pretty in this new underwear set or something."

Hibana swallowed thickly and just got under the covers, trying to ignore the matching panties Cody wore that didn't really cover him all too well at all. He cleared his throat and just pulled Cody close to him with no words spoken, too flustered to risk it.

"Don't tell me you actually are thinking that..? I was just kidding y'know.." Cody was a bit more quiet now as he became flustered himself.

Neither said anything else after that, just holding each other tighter. They both stayed awake for a while, eyes closed and just enjoying the warmth the other gave off and the feeling of being so close. Hibana fell alseep first, and Cody waited a long while before letting himself fall asleep too, making sure that Hibana was at peace.
