Speaking of @allenvooreef, they’ve also drawn artwork of (most) of my Friday D&D game’s adventuring group. It seemed right to post all of them together as well.

There’s Poppy, our halfling arcane trickster rogue, who left the group for the simplicity of home. (The player’s new PC is the artificer.) Tuck, our half-elf bard who’s temporarily traveling with his father instead of the group (as the player just started grad school and isn’t free to play).

My halfling cleric, Ali, needs no introduction.

Then there’s Mawny, our gnome barbarian/paladin. And Tink, our gnome artificer.

... yes, our current group is a tiny halfling and two gnomes. We’re a small group. In more ways than one. Shush.

today at one of my favorite dumpling places, i sat next to a table full of white people who were getting progressively drunk with their dinner. their conversation topics ranged from awkward farting situations to debating the pronunciation of karage. near the beginning, my husband said, “i hate listening to other people talk over their dinner,” and i said, “you mean white people?” and he said, “no, just other people.”

as usual the dumplings were everything you’d hope a dumpling to be: juicy, hot, and wrapped in a soft peel thinner than paper. stray but a little and it will pop. i burned my lip in one bite. vinegar-soaked tongue and ceramic plates. ginger and pork fueling the love in my heart. so much labor poured into each bao.

the dishes went by quicker than the time we took to decide our order. as we waited for the check, the table next to us continued to laugh out loud. among them, the most obnoxious white man then committed a most horrifying act. reaching out with a hand, he pinched a xiao long bao by its tip and yanked it up. the peel broke immediately, spilling its soup. the table continued to laugh. disgusting, i thought. no respect for such a beautiful dish at all. they marveled at how the pork looked on the inside; i almost threw up in my mouth.

what is so funny about how a ball of hand-molded pork looks inside a bao? did you not spend $12 on this dish alone only for the last piece of dumpling to be subjugated to your foreign entertainment? and what of the hands that made it? the masterful fingers that folded and rolled, twisted and wrapped? they send hundreds of them each day to customers, to guests, not knowing or seeing where they turn up.

and maybe that’s a good thing, sometimes. to the grand majority of the people eating at this restaurant, i’’m sure they all enjoy it. the loving labor and labor of love, the dip of water running along a doughy seam. the delicate pinch of the tip, white peel swirling up like clouds before entering boiling water.

but unfortunately, a select few end up like pearls before swine. a boisterous white man who snorts out loud while other white friends join in the raucous. these dumplings were made with hard work, i wanted to say. not just at this restaurant, but through years and years of art refined, borrowed, adapted, perfected, returned, and refined mawny times more. the blatant disrespect. blissful and disgusting ignorance. no consideration at all for an entire ethnicity’s history.

30. What quest meant the most to your OC?

Fremennik Isles - It was probably one of his earliest biggest challenges to him since it had a rather diverse set of problems from combat to problem-solving to mediation and even insight on societal morals (especially in Jatizso). I think the gift that Mawnis Burowgar gave meant a lot to him, since he never had received any gift of that much sentimental value - money is money, but something like this is difficult to put a value on.

After all, that’s why you almost never see him without that helmet :)

31. Where does your OC live?

I imagine he’s from Ardougne so that would be his hometown, but he currently lives in Prifddinas at the moment.

32. Does your OC have any hobbies or side projects?

Music! He absolutely loves loves loves music! He loves to listen, play, dance to it…I imagine he can play a relatively diverse set of instruments from piano to trumpet but his favorite would probably be a lute since it’s the most transport-friendly but he can also sing along should he choose to.

What’s amusing is he’s actually a pretty good dancer despite being so clumsy - something about the rhythm/beat of music helps him not trip or fall over like the klutz he normally is!

Look at the absolutely amazing artwork that @odettte drew for my Friday night D&D game! Didn’t he do an awesome job on it? ♥

Our game has officially been running for six months, so I commissioned him to drew a group pic of our characters for the anniversary. (Well, that, and partially as a 30th birthday present for myself since they both happened so close together.)

I’m still flailing over just how perfect it is. Everyone’s personalities really shines through, and I love how pronounced the height differences are. I mean, it’s obviously always been that way, but it’s never quite sunk in just how large of a difference it is until I saw everyone standing side-by-side.
