Ranveer Allahbadia row: Mumbai Police reaches YouTuber's residence over remarks at ‘India’s Got Latent’
The row over YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia's remarks while appearing as a ‘judge’ on comedian Samay Raina’s show ‘India’s Got Latent’ has snowballed into a major crisis.
Police complaints have been filed in the case in different parts of the country, the matter is reaching Parliament and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been dragged into it.
The Mumbai Police on Tuesday reached his residence after multiple complaints were filed in the city on Monday.
Here is a quick look at what we know so far about the case:
Ranveer Allahbadia row: What we know so far
The row started when Ranveer Allahbadia, while appearing on ‘India's Got Latent', along with Samay Raina, influencer Apoorva Makhija, and others, passed a comment to a contestant about their parents.
Multiple complaints have been filed against Allahbadia, who has 4.5 million Instagram followers and 1.05 crore YouTube subscribers, for his remarks in Mumbai and Assam. Police have said they are investigating the matter. Allahbadia and Raina have been asked to join the probe. Influencer Apoorva Makhija and others linked to the India's Got Latent episode have also been named in those FIRs.
Amid the row over Allahbadia's remarks, both Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and his Assamese counterpart Himanta Viswa Sarma reacted to the matter. Sarma informed about the FIR filed against Allahbadia aka ‘Beer Biceps’, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, comic Jaspreet Singh, Makhija, Raina and others, Fadnavis said he was informed about this matter. "Everyone has freedom of speech but this freedom ends when we encroach upon others' freedom. Everyone has limits, if anyone crosses them, action will be taken," he said.
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be careful about who he promotes. He was referring to the ‘Disruptor of the Year’ award given to the podcaster at last year's Digital Creators Awards given by PM Modi.
After the remarks sparked a massive row, Allahbadia issued an apology and said comedy was not his forte and that he had a lapse in judgement. "My comment wasn't just inappropriate, it was not even funny. Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to say sorry," he said in a video message.
The podcaster said this was not how he wished to use his platform. He also said that he wasn't giving a reason or justification for his comments. "I am not going to give any context or justification or reasoning behind whatever happened. I am just here for an apology. I personally had a lapse in judgement. It wasn't cool on my part," he said in the short video on X.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has said she would raise the issue in the parliament and the standing committee for Communications and IT. "The way he made the comment, the language that was used, it was pervasive and offensive, it is beyond the realms of the society. If these content creators don't self-regulate, they force the state to intervene. FIRs have been registered. It was done deliberately, it was to make the content viral and make money out of it. They will have to pay for it, because in a civilised society, it would make these talks normal, speaking about parents normal, talking about physical intimacy normal. I find it perverse,” Chaturvedi told PTI.
She also added that she would raise the issue in the standing committee and also in the house in zero hour on Tuesday.
“It is not only about this content, there are several content creators who have been thriving on these platforms, and getting away with accountability,” she said.
The incident has prompted a wave of criticism against crass content in comedy shows. Singer B Praak, who was to appear in Allahbadia's show, has cancelled the plan and urged stand-up comedians to be careful about the content they create.
The video has been reportedly taken down from YouTube, and several reports suggest that it was done at the request of the government. Mumbai Police also reached Allahbadia's residence in connection to the case, ANI reported.
Organisations like Rajput Karni Sena have also condemned the remarks, saying that it goes against ‘Indian culture’.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Advises PM Modi to Be Cautious About Public Endorsements Amid Ranveer Allahbadia Controversy
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to carefully consider the people he publicly endorses. This statement came in the wake of a controversy involving podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as ‘Beer Biceps,’ over his remarks on comedian Samay Raina’s show India's Got Latent.
Gaurav Gogoi, the deputy leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, emphasized that while PM Modi has the right to support anyone in his personal life, as the Prime Minister of India, he must be more responsible.
“I hope PM Modi will look more closely at the people he has endorsed publicly and on social media. In his personal life, he is welcome to support whoever he likes, but the Prime Minister of India must be expected to be more responsible,” Gogoi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Ranveer Allahbadia’s Controversial Remark Sparks Backlash
The controversy began after Ranveer Allahbadia, who received the 'Disruptor of the Year' award from PM Modi in March 2024 at the National Creators Award, made an inappropriate remark during an episode of India's Got Latent. His question to a contestant on the show was deemed highly offensive and sparked widespread criticism.
The remark shocked both viewers and fellow judges on the show, including comedian Samay Raina and influencer Ashish Chanchlani. Samay Raina was visibly stunned and questioned Ranveer's conduct during the episode.
Legal Actions and Political Reactions
Despite Ranveer Allahbadia issuing an apology, the situation escalated when an FIR was filed against him and other participants of the show, including Samay Raina and Apoorva Makhija. The complainant cited the use of abusive language and demanded legal action against the show's organizers and judges.
The incident has turned into a political issue, drawing criticism from both BJP and opposition leaders. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis remarked that freedom of expression has its boundaries, while Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed her intention to raise the matter in parliament.
The controversy has sparked debates on responsible media content and public conduct, especially from influential personalities. For the latest news headline India in Hindi, subscribe to our newsletter!

Ranveer Allahbadia in Deeper Trouble: Controversial Remark Sparks Political and Legal Storm
Tumblr media
Ranveer Allahbadia controversy
Ranveer Allahbadia is having more and more trouble because of what he said on the roast show India's Got Latent. The 31-year-old has said sorry for his rude comments, but the controversy is quickly becoming a big crisis.
Here are 10 quick tips to help you understand this long story.
- Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said she would bring up the issue with the Parliamentary panel of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. - "Any offensive language used for comedic purposes goes too far and is not okay." Just because you have a platform doesn't mean you have to say anything. He has millions of listeners, and every politician has listened to his podcast. PM gave him an award... "This is something I will talk about as a member of the standing committee of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting," she said on X. - In Mumbai and Guwahati, police have filed complaints against Ranveer Allahbadia, comedian Samay Raina, influencer Apoorva Makhija, and others in connection with the India's Got Latent show where Allahbadia made the rude comments. - Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, said that the state police have filed a FIR against Allahbadia, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, comedian Jaspreet Singh, Makhija, Raina, and others for encouraging defamation and having a sexually explicit and rude conversation. - A lot of complaints have been made against Allahbadia in Mumbai. He has 4.5 million Instagram fans and 1.05 crore YouTube subscribers. The police have said they are looking into it. Allahbadia and Raina have been asked to help with the investigation. - It caused a stir when Allahbadia said certain things, and the chief minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, said he knew about it. "Everyone is free to speak their mind, but that freedom ends when we break someone else's freedom." "Everyone has limits, and if someone breaks them, something will be done," he said. - Allahbadia, who is also known as the BeerBiceps Guy, was recently on an episode of Raina's show India's Got Latent. Allahbadia asks a contestant, "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?" This short clip from the show is now going viral. - The comments caused a huge argument, so Allahbadia said he was sorry and that he wasn't good at comedy and that he made a mistake. "What I said wasn't only rude, it wasn't even funny." "I'm sorry, I'm not good at comedy," he said in a video message. - The podcaster said that he didn't want to use his position in this way. "I am not going to explain what happened or why it happened; it just happened." I'm just here to say sorry. I made a mistake in my own opinion. "It wasn't cool of me," he said. - Because of what happened, there has been a lot of criticism of crude material in comedy shows. Singer B Praak, who was supposed to be on Allahbadia's show, has backed out of the plan and told stand-up comics to be careful what they write.
