Tumblr media

The Mansion

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kumain, Kumain at Kumain
Itogon – Mt Ulap, and Mt Ugo
Atok – Northern Blossom, Mt Timbak, and the Sakura Park (Haight’s Place)

VIETNAM
I love Vietnam! Although in my research they were mostly mistaken as rude. Well I haven’t experience pa naman sa dalawang beses kong visit. Hindi ka lang talaga nila papatawirin. Hindi uso ung pedestrian lane. I mean uso naman pero hindi katulad sa Pinas na PedXing is Pedxing. The first time we crossed the street we were all running for our lives. Also, you are an instant millionaire! OhmyG yung Pho and BahnMi along the streets! Ka-miss!
Favorite ko yung Danang and Hoi An. Di ko na i detailed yung price neto. Masakit sa bangs. Next trip promise!
I remember vividly how we came up with this trip. It was in January when we were in a bus to Cu Chi tunnels. Yes, in Vietnam! Clark showed me a photo of the golden hand bridge in Bana hills. He asked me if we could drop by. Upon mabilisang research, I’ve confirm that we needed a plane ride to be there. And, we will only be in Vietnam for the next 48 hours since we will go to Cambodia after. Then the desire grew.
A month after we booked a flight to Hanoi.
June 29 (Day 01)
Napansin ko all Cebpac flights to Vietnam starts at 10PM everyday. We arrived at Hanoi around 1AM. The weather was humid. Parang Pinas. We immidiately booked grab, affordable naman kasi kaya malakas loob naming mag grab. We stayed at Ellogia Rusta in Ho Kiem District Hanoi.
Ellogia Rusta: It is cheap! No free breakfast. The rooms have a small balcony where you could smoke. They were helpful specially with the tours and transfers.
So that morning also, sabak na agad sa tour. Hapit sa oras e. I booked a Nimh Binh tour. They said it is like Halong bay in land. Kaso Bes sobrang init. Parang Elnido rock formation ung paligid. We’ve been to quite alot of places. I forgot if it was Godzilla? We hurried back to Hanoi. We informed our tour guide na we have a flight to Danang.
We flew to Danang and Checked in to Queen’s Finger Hotel.
Queen’s Finger: Sobrang sulit! We got a room for Php 1,775/night( divided by 2). Sobrang sulit!! The ambiance, the facility and the breakfast. Pang 5 star talaga. Yung mirror nila sa banyo automatic. Manghang mangha ako hahah! Yung ppol nila sa rooftoop infinity pool. Yung breakfast nila from local food like Pho to western to chinese. Name it! They have it.
June 30 (Day02)
We started Day 02 with the hotel’s free buffet. Syempre naman! And then we waited for the tour. We went to Bana Hills. Where the golden hand was found. Yung main reason bat kami nagpunta dito. It was surreal. The feeling and the experience! Para ka talagang nasa ibang bansa. I booked the tour from Danang Green. Local tour provider sila. Nalimot ko na how much we paid. Pero alam ko around Php1,500 - P1,800. RT transfers (Hotel-Bana Hills-Hotel + Entrance fee). I must say cheap na sya.
When we arrived at Bana hills, chaotic! Daming tao. Tourist spot talaga sya e. What mesmerized me was the cable car! 30 minutes ride paakyat. Yung castle and the main theme park was located sa taas. So no other way but to ride the cable car. And it is included sa entrance. Di mo mamalayan yung oras! And then we ate at a Japanese Buffet for lunch. At ang bilis na ng pangyayari. The tour guide left us. They have a hotel at the top of the mountain!
Tumblr media
Our original itinerary for this night is to have dinner and then go to the bridge na bumubuga ng apoy at 8PM on weekends.
We had Dinner at Ngon VIlla. Wala masyadong tao pero reservation is required I guess. I reseved months ahead. Its a fine dining buffet restaurant. At ang sarap ng mga food!  Its a little pricey tho, so I asked the manager (na Pinoy) if they surprise my friend. May celebration lang para di kami ma guilty. HAHA! And awkward BWAHHAA
Which by the way can be seen from out hotel naman. So we decided to swim. Capping the night with a beer with Danang view. Ahhhh! Relaxing!
July 1 (Day 03)
The next morning we had breakfast. And we wnet back to our hotel room to pack again since we will go to Hoi An. Another city. We should check the city pala before checking out sana kaso Clark is a it under the weather so he slept. While I walked alone papunta sa beach. Which is by the way 2-3 minute walk lang from our hotel.
We checked out and booked grabe to Hoi An. Malapit lapit lang naman. We check-in at the Eath Villa.
The Earth Villa: Grabe to!! The room is so relaxing the vibe! And we got for P1,100 per night with breakfast.
We ate lunch at a hotel in front of our villa. Medyo Afternoon na yun. The plan was to go to Hoi An. Pero tinatamad si Clark. Dahil ata malapit na ung birthday nya kaya sya nilalagnat nung mga panahong yan. Nag-bike ako magisa to old town. Grabe! Worht the pagod, sobrang ganda sa old town. Madilim na romantic. Eto yung gusto kong balikan sa Danang talaga huhu!
July 2 (Day 04)
Original Plan: Checked out and go on a Hue Tour. Ride a sleeper train from Hue to Hanoi at night.
Tunay na nangyari: Nag extend ng another night. Nagbook ng early morning flight the next day to Hanoi. Natulog maghapon. We planned to go back to Old town that night kaso umulan.
July 3 (Day 05)
Original Plan: Overnight cruise at Halong Bay Tuna na nangyari: We fought.
We arrived at Hanoi ng 9AM. Per months research, 4 hours and minimum from airport to Halong. The cruise will sail at 11:45AM. Basta do the math. While he is frustrated kasi kaya naman daw. Sobrang galit na galit sya. He didn’t talk to me or ate in the past 24 hours sa galit.
Lesson learned: Learn to compromise self.  Willing nga syang mag compromise kahit walang datnan basta tinry. I should have seen that bago kami magbook ng flight a day before.
Ayun, baka last na namin to. HAHA
Btw, we booked a different hotel.
July 3 (Day 05)
Original Plan: Check out and then do city tour.  Tunay na nangyari: Checked out and stayed at the Airport 13 hours before our flight. Imagine! And its my fault I know! HAHAH
Overall it was a good trip, minus the away. Nagkabati naman kami when we arrived in Manila. If I would be given a chance, balik akong Danang and Hoi An. I would also want to gift Clark a Halong Bay cruise, utang ko sa kanya yun. hahaha

LAKBAY - SANAYSAY
Lahug, Cebu City, Philippines
Temple of Leah
Tumblr media
Mountain View Nature's Park
Tumblr media

Osmeña Peak CEBU : Queen City of the South
Tumblr media
Madalas itong tinawag na "Queen City of the South".

A 1001-kilometer Journey: Around Western Visayas in 3 Days
Hahaha! It was December 2016 nang maging successful akong makapagbook ng roundtrip tickets via Air Asia papuntang Kalibo.
July 8, 2017. There I was in our office, holding a peso coin and thinking why on Earth am I letting it decide for me. Hahaha! But still, I flipped it. And it said I should go for Iloilo-Antique-Aklan and forget about the others.
So I did. I went to those three provinces, and boy it was one hell of a good decision.
Day 1: Aklan to Iloilo
The flight to Aklan from Manila was fast, namalayan ko na lang nasa Kalibo International Airport na kami. I think it only took 35 minutes. We arrived at KIA around 4:20 in the afternoon, and I immediately went out of the airport to look for a tricycle to Ceres Bus Terminal. Short walk lang from KIA yong highway kung saan dumadaan most of the tricycles.
The trip was also short, 10 minutes lang I think. I paid 20 pesos and waited for the bus to Iloilo na according sa napagtanungan ko, 5PM pa dumadating. I bought snacks habang naghihintay and in fairness, 5PM sakto dumating yong bus pa-Iloilo. The fare was 253 pesos and will take 4 hours pa-terminal nila sa Jaro, Iloilo.
9PM na nga no’ng nakarating kami and malas kasi umaambon. I approached a man to ask anong jeep ang sasakyan ko pa-Ong Bun Pension House (booked via Travel Loka 300 pesos for a solo room), and unfortunately wala na palang dumadaang Jaro-Liko that time dahil gabi na. Fortunately, papunta rin s’ya around the are no’ng pension house so he invited me na mag-taxi na lang kami. 20 minutes after, nasa tapat na kami ng pension house and when I was paying half of our fare, he told me na okay na ‘yon. Nagulat ako mga mamshie! Hahaha! He just added na ganoon daw sila mag-welcome ng mga turista sa Iloilo and okay lang kasi same way lang kami. Nagpasalamat na lang ako (tatanggi pa ba ako e libre na nga?) and proceeded to check in inside the pension house. Lumabas ako saglit to buy light dinner and then spent the night reviewing my itinerary. 12MN, lights off na.
Day 2: Iloilo to Antique
I started the day early to maximize my time. 7AM, nagcheck out na ako sa pension house para diretso na ako sa byahe in the evening. First stop? Breakfast at Madge Cafe (Gastos; 250 pesos). Sumakay ako ng jeep with a signboard na La Paz (7 pesos), and then bumaba sa La Paz Public Market.
Pagkatapos ko mag-tour, Ate Diday approached me and asked me kung nalibot ko na ba yong city and then she told me tips and good places to go.
Other places you can go sa area: Arroyo Fountain, Old Iloilo Provincial Capitol
9AM, I was already at Jaro Cathedral. From Museo Iloilo, ride a jeep na may placard na Jaro CPU (7 pesos). Unfortunately, sarado yung church so I just prayed sa entrance then nagpunta ako sa kabilang building to light a candle.
Other places you can go sa area: Casa Mariquit, Nelly Garden a.k.a. Lopez “white” house (kailangan ng reservation), and Sanson y Montinola Antillian House
After Jaro Cathedral, I went to Molo Church.
Other places/s you can go sa area: Camiña Balay nga Bato. It s located near Molo Plaza, along the highway. Tour rates are P150 per person may kasama na yong house tour and tsokolate tasting, P200 per person naman kapag house tour, tsokolate, at pancit molo tasting ang gusto mo.
After touring the plaza and the church, lumabas na ako. I bought meryenda and took the opportunity to ask paano pumunta ng Iloilo City Hall since maganda raw yong view sa roofdeck no’n. According to manang, kailangan ko raw sumakay ng jeep na may placard na “Baluarte” (7 pesos) and sabihin ko sa driver na ibaba ako sa City Hall. The trip took around 20 minutes.
First kong pinuntahan sa City Hall is yung gallery nila. The room is full of displays and it perfectly depicts Iloilo and its rich history. After looking around, I rode the elevator to 7th floor and looked for the entrance ng roofdeck. Soooobrang amazing! You can even see Guimaras Island from there, and the skyline was so beautiful. Plus, everything is freeee!
After enjoying the scenic view, bumaba na ako. Sa kanto from the city hall, may restaurant where you can eat one of the best tasting La Paz batchoys which is Ted's Old-timer La Paz Batchoy.
Other places you can go sa area: Iloilo Customs House, Calle Real, the cultural core of Downtown Iloilo, Arroyo Fountain, and Old Provincial Capitol.
After the half-day tour, sumakay na ako ng jeep papuntang Molo Terminal kung saan nandoon ang mga buses and vans pa-Garin Farm. Ang placard no’ng jeep is “Villa Arevalo”. When I reached the terminal, I boarded a van (70 pesos) and told the driver na ibaba ako sa San Joaquin. The trip was around an hour and a half and pagbaba ko sa kanto pa-Garin, sumakay ako ng habal-habal (20 pesos). After 10 minutes, nakarating na ako sa Garin. (Entrance fee: 150 pesos)
Garin Farm and Pilgrimage Resort I must say is a mix of agriculture, leisure, and pilgrimage in one place. Agriculture kasi ang daming mga hayop mamshies! As in yung entrance, maririnig mo yung mga baka, manok, ibon. Haha! The walk up to the entrance of the pigrimage was around 10-20 minutes (natagalan ako kasi natuwa ako sa mga baka hahaha). Yung leisure kasi may mga activities sila sa baba ng pilgrimage like zip line, fishing, boating and may restaurant din.
To reach the top of the pilgrimage, 456 steps yung aakyatin mo so better bring water while doing it. May option naman na mag-golf cart kayo paakyat which is 30 pesos but I decided to challenge myself and syempre para tipid din no! (Plus bragging rights na din haha). No kidding, I really had goosebumps when I reached the top, may music pa kasi sila mga mamshie so feeling ko nasa langit talaga ako hahahaha nakakaloka. Ang puti puti no’ng paligid!
(Fare: 153 pesos) I reached Antique around 9:30 in the evening and that’s when an almost nightmare started. If you want to know what happened bakit ninerbyos ang parents ko here’s the full story. But long story short, namali ako ng calculate sa oras and ended up almost a thousand kilometers away from home, with no one to turn to, no place to stay aside from an old waiting shed beside the dark, deserted highway. Thank God for angels! Huhu. I ended up sleeping sa bahay ng kapitana ng Brgy. Importante. It was a long night but I am very grateful na everything turned out fine. 💖
Day 3: Antique to Aklan
Maaga ulit ako gumising to catch the sunrise on the way to Kayak Inn Kawa Hot Bath. Manang Suzette a.k.a one of the angels who saved me helped me arranged a habal-habal the night before so 6:30 pa lang ng umaga, on the way na kami sa bundok. The trip will take you around 30 minutes.
Ako lang yong guest ng Kayak Inn that morning, usually the price (250 pesos) is good for 30 minutes lang but they allowed me to stay in one of the kawas until gusto ko. Walang halong charot, worth all the hassle yung place. Ang ganda, ang peaceful, ang sarap nong experience. It will really help you wash away yong mga baon mong sama ng loob from wherever you are. Hahaha! Sulit lahat ng pinagdaanan ko to reach the place so in the end, wala akong kahit kaunting regret.
Tip: No signal sa area so send messages na agad before umakyat. The use of cottage for day-time use plus restroom is free.
After enjoying the place, I immediately went down na rin to catch a bus pa-Kalibo. The trip will take you around 3 hours (155 pesos). You’ll enjoy the scenic view while on your way so prepare your phone pa rin! :)
(300 yong tricycle fee which includes the driver as your personal tour guide, taga-picture and the ride pabalik sa Kalibo International Airport)
The eco-park is being tagged as the most successful mangrove reforestation project in the country. More than one kilometer na lakaran ito mga mamshie at may magandang view sa dulo so go push! Haha!
That’s how I ended my 1001-kilometer journey. It didn’t turn out exactly the way I expected it would be, but I guess that’s what makes the whole trip a memorable one. ✨
PS.
May you, the one reading this right now, also find the courage to pursue something you’ve been wanting to do even if most of the people are saying you can’t. May it be a solo backpacking trip like what I did, or trying out something new, or finally deciding about something you’ve been running away from for a long, long, time already. Think hard, think about it over and over, and if in the end you still feel all the overwhelming need to do it, I hope you find yourself strong enough to say “Yes, I will!”

THIS COASTAL JUNGLE LODGE IS SRI LANKA’S LATEST ODE TO SUSTAINABLE LUXURY – ELECTRIFY MAGAZINE
Tumblr media
As part of Sri Lanka’s Resplendent Ceylon luxury circuit of tea, sea and safari, Wild Coast Tented Lodge is steeped in the country’s most revered experiences. Opened at the beginning of November, the resort was a three year project in the making, as owner Malik Fernando and his team strived to create a seamless juxtaposition of concealed jungle privacy with sweeping beachside access. “Most safari lodges are deep in jungle,” says Fernando. “With Yala being along the coast we are very fortunate to have a beautiful, rugged beachside location.”
Secluded in the grasslands, lagoons and exotic nature of the 98,000 hectares of Yala National Park, the Wild Tented Lodge property is quintessential jungle retreat, with a stretch of pristine coast along the Indian Ocean. In order to highlight the harmony of coastal jungle, Fernando shares that the use of materials like bamboo and teak throughout the property reflect local and sustainable craft, as an organic way to blend the individual tents with the unique landscape. Although this integration was at the forefront of Fernando’s vision, just as significant as curating a sustainable and luxury accommodation, was the aspect of community impact.
From bringing local craftsmen on-site to design the tents, referred to as “cocoons” and “urchins,” to training local fishermen to construct the bamboo structure of the bar and restaurant, the Sri Lankan culture isn’t just a part of Wild Coast Tented Lodge, it is the quality of the property that make it outstanding.
Only three months into welcoming guests, we caught up with Fernando to learn more about the three-year project and its unique location in Yala National Park, along with some Sri Lanka tips that first time travelers can’t miss.
Where are you originally from and what attracted you to Yala National Park?
I am a Sri Lankan, born in Colombo. When I was a kid we use to pack up several times a year and embark on a trip to the then very remote Yala Park taking all our provisions with us – the accommodation was very basic in a few bungalows inside the park. It was a wonderful adventure that many Sri Lankans have fond memories of. So when we were offered the opportunity of a pristine beach side location, I grabbed it.
Can you discuss the juxtaposition of the lodge between the sea and the jungle?
Most Safari lodges are deep in jungle. With Yala being along the coast we are very fortunate to have a beautiful rugged beachside location, perfect for long nature walks, morning yoga and, of course, sundowners after a game drive. The ocean breezes keep the lodge cool.
What was the design process like creating a building for this plot? What about the idea to create these pod tents instead of importing them?
The bar and the restaurant are bamboo and teak shingle structures which replicate the rock formations on the beach. The tents, which we called cocoons and urchins, are of a unique design and made at site by local craftsmen. We wanted to avoid the conventional tent, to create something special. They have achieved a perfect balance between the unique appearance, comfort and sustainability.
Did you have any design inspiration for the interiors of the pods? And how long did it take to fully design, build and furnish the whole lodge?
The interior of the cocoons evokes traditional leather and brass safari elements with a steampunk Jules Verne look; a feeling like one is in a vintage train carriage. The large sloping glass facades were specially made, some overlook private plunge pools. It took us three years to realize our mad dream.
How does the lodge encapsulate the essence of Sri Lanka?
Wild Coast was largely a local community project. We trained local fishermen from the nearby Kirinda village to erect the bamboo structures. They originated from Java in Indonesia, brought by the British to work the nearby salt pans. Our cuisine highlights their lost “heritage” dishes. We use local cinnamon and tea in our spa treatments.
What is the number one reason people come to Sri Lanka, and specifically, to Wild Coast Tented Lodge?
Sri Lanka is one of the safest countries to visit, tourists are welcomed with a natural warmth. It is about six countries in one — within a short distance topography and climate changes with beautiful vistas around every corner. Wild Coast Tented Lodge is in the south east “dry zone” with brush jungle vegetation and a rugged coast line, with the highest density of leopards in the world.
Of course it varies from guest to guest, but in general, what may a typical day look like for guests at Wild Coast Tented Lodge?
Start the day with sunrise Yoga on the beach, or perhaps a nature walk with one of our rangers, followed by a classic Sri Lankan “Egg Hopper” breakfast in our bamboo dining pavilion. Perhaps a late morning visit to the nearby Buddhist rock temple with panoramic views of the park. The infinity edged swimming pool overlooking the beach is always popular. If you’ve enjoyed a game drive in the morning, a treatment in our Sanctuary Spa would be welcome relaxation. Lunch offer a selection of classic Sri Lankan dishes and international favorites with a Sri Lankan touch. An afternoon game drive could take you to more distant parts of the park, ending with sundowners on the beach, accompanied by spicy Sri Lankan “bites.” After a gourmet dinner, our bamboo clad bar is a lovely spot for a digestif. We have movie nights on the large outdoor screen with wildlife documentaries and movie classics. There is also a lovely dome shaped library to do a bit of work or catch the news.
Are there any places, sights or activities that you would recommend for a first time visitor to Sri Lanka?
Visit the ruined cities and ancient culture of north central Sri Lanka, then the beautiful central Ceylon tea country; spending a day enroute in Kandy, then depending on season, the South Coast with its lovely boutique villas and pristine beaches or the East Coast beaches. And of course safari at Wild Coast Tented Lodge.
