Behind the bars_a shield, a shelter, a watchtower. “We would look to see if the guests were arriving, and duck when we see someone familiar” - bk1chin

A more organic and visceral approach to my room. I cut my room into two sections and drew a 1:10 scale. I want to continue with the the theme that my room is ‘full of crap’ (Shrigley) but making it overwhelming in colour. Usually painting or drawing is not my main medium but it was fun to practise and play around with the two. The first half is the side of my room which is practically consumed by two ceiling to floor windows. The reason I used a yellow ochre was to display the abundance natural light that enters my room, I also added strokes of crimson red and phthalo green to add an organic and earthy touch. At first I really did regret using phtalo blue as the background because I find it too overwhelming, however when I stand back and look at is as a whole the juxtaposition of the yellow ochre and midnight blue act well in showing the two different lights that enter my room, blue being the night and yellow being the day. This section of my room has more productivity, because I store all my books, diaries, plants and others things that make me participate, hence why used messy fast strokes to highlight the high level of activity. However the other side, shown in the other diagram is more lucid.
I did two drawings of section two because I felt different about it each time. In the first draft, I used a light green as the background because that side reminds me of the dreamy state of mind, like laying on the beach under some leafy greens. But because of the large scale figures I used, the background was too overwhelming and was not capturing the ethereal state of rest. Unlike the first section, in this diagram you can see my bed, which is a significant part of my room because it takes up (literally) the whole space. My bed measures in 1:10 ration as 21cm and the length of my room is 24cm. That is why I drew a figure on the bed somewhat in a lucid position to display the main activity that goes in my room. However I believe this diagram did not work as there were too many figures and the colours were not cohesive.
As a result, I decided to draw the section again and glad I did. In this diagram, I did not add a background but instead played with the negative space. I applied strokes of phlatho green, orange, pink and blue lake as they worked well in portraying that organic sense. I also made the figures smaller, having more slouched comfortable positions because this section of my room is the more relaxing half, where I like to sit on my bed and read or write.

I coincidentally took the photo of the building that morning, without knowing that we're getting to build one of our own!
