Reasons why Banaue Rice Terraces called “The Breathtaking Rice Terraces of the Philippines.”
Rice Terraces of the Philippines is one of the UNESCO’s Heritage Site that acquires outstanding example of an evolved, living cultural landscape that can be discovered as far back as two millennia ago in the pre-colonial Philippines. It is often referred to as the eighth wonder of the world and called as the “Stairways to the Sky.” Some 2,000 years ago, indigenous people of the Cordillera mountain range hand-carved the slopes to utilize them for agriculture.  The terraces illustrate a persistence of cultural traditions and remarkable continuity and endurance, the maintenance of the living rice terraces reflects a primarily cooperative approach of the whole community which is based on detailed knowledge of the rich diversity of biological resources existing in the Ifugao agro-ecosystem.  Through ritual practices, chants and symbols which emphasize ecological balance, the Ifugao community has maintained the intactness of the terraces’ traditional management system over this long period of time, ensuring the authenticity of both the original landscape engineering and the traditional wet-rice agriculture. Once this balance is disturbed the whole system begins to collapse, but so long as they all operate together harmoniously the overall result would be perfect.  The terraces have long been protected and managed through traditional ancestral land use management traditions of the indigenous Ifugao community.  The Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras were declared National Treasures in Presidential Decrees 260:1973 and 1505:1978. The terraces are likewise protected by the Republic Act No 10066:2010, providing for the protection and conservation of the National Cultural Heritage.

Existing Paradise
Tumblr media
Tranquil. Tantalizing. Enchanting.
Three words that can probably depict the emergence of a paradise. A paradise that all of us dreamt about. But who knows that there is a place that can give you a paradise-feels and you can find it here in the Philippines which is known as the pearl of the orient where the beaches, islands and many more places are undeniably touristy for the vacationers. One of the best places in the Philippines that has a lot of incomparable spots — Batanes.
Batanes is an archipelago province in the Philippines situated in the Cagayan Valley Region. It is the northernmost province in the country and also the smallest. But despite of it, Batanes has many huge areas where the amusing tourist spots are located.
First spot, the Basco Lighthouse. A six-story-tall lighthouse of Basco’s most renowned landmarks. It is perfect for those people who loves relaxing and a calm atmosphere where you can find the peacefulness of your mind.
Second spot, the House of Dakay. If you like some ancient things then this place is perfect for you. It is the oldest stone house ever to be constructed in the entire province of Batanes. This stone house has retained its original foundation, with its cogon roof replaced every few decades that make this place worth visiting.
Third spot, the Valugan Boulder Beach. Batanes has numerous beaches but what makes Valugan Beach unique from others is its shore which is dotted with smooth volcanic rocks. The view of this beach is absolutely a sight to behold, you will surely enjoy this magnificent beach faces the pacific ocean.
Fourth spot, the Rakuh a Payaman also known as Marlboro Hills. If you want a new kind of seascape, then you should visit this place. It is a featuring rolling grasslands and an amazing view of the coast. Rakuh a payaman is well-known as one of the most picturesque sights in Batanes. It is often referred to as Marlboro Hills or Marlboro City by many locals and travelers.
Fifth spot, the Mahatao Hedgerows. The stunning pattern of tall crops known as “liveng” that surround Mahato’s farm fields. It is not just a picture-perfect view but it also protects the local’s produce from destruction brought on by wild animals as well as unfavorable weather and other bad environmental conditions. So visiting this place is just like supporting also our natural commodities.
All of these places are just some of the proofs that to see a paradise is possible. It may not be a perfect one, but these places will surely give the contentment in ourselves because of their own hidden beauty that also needs an appreciative eyes of the beholder. With that, we can truly feel the essence of these places in Batanes, the existing paradise.

Without a Sword
Tumblr media
Pen and paper has been his weapon against the foreigners. This is where the prevailing truth was written and made us see the reality that our naked eyes cannot show. We were blind and afraid but there he is, silently helping us escape the tragedies we experienced. He made us free from the sorrowness and gave us the right that we deserve as a human being. We ought him our home, our nationality and the freedom of life that we have as a Filipino.
During the colonization of the Spaniards in our country, he was the one who led the Filipinos to start a revolution against the Spanish Government to acquire freedom and to gain control of the country. His boldness and patriotism serve as the mainstay of the land of our birth which is the Philippines. He became the voice of his countrymen by revealing the ruthless manipulation of the Spanish Government in our country. His works serve as an eye opener to the Filipinos who are blinded by the deceiving strategy of the Spaniards.
As time passes by, his unique way of defending our country using a pen as his sword in the battle became a trademark of his heroism in the 21st century. He is a hero indeed with a genuine love for his motherland. A hero without a cape but started flying to reach for the freedom that we Filipinos have always wanted, a hero without any supernatural powers but fought fearlessly to raise the respectable name of the Philippines and most of all, a hero without any costume to wear but can still be the most fascinating and perfect model of valiancy.
He may not be the hero who used a sword and a weapon to fight for the freedom of our country but he will always make the Filipinos proud of being a citizen of the Philippines. He may not be the hero that everyone imagined, but he can be the greatest person of the century especially in our today’s generation. The lessons that he had taught us will be etched in our hearts and minds, and his name that we Filipinos will never forget, the name of our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.
