What about Grayson Death Carlyle from Battletech? He is:
1) a noted and brilliant mercenary commander
2) a quite skilled giant robot pilot
3)majorly responsible for beginning a technological renaissance and reversing the technological decline that had the norm in the setting for some 300-odd years (by virtue of finding a lost data cache from the golden era of humanity)
4) the Inner Sphere Owen Wilson look-alike contest winner for 7 years running between 3025-3032.
Okay that last part I made up. But the rest is all true.
And yes, his middle name is actually "Death".
That's where the Grey Death Legion (his mercenary command) gets their name.
Vietnam-era Colt M16A1 with 40mm M203 grenade launcher.

I'm getting a good portion of Rambo vibes from him.

OK SO
wolf wood cross gun.
in summary, from what i understand:
machine gun in the long end, inline with the axis.
rocket launcher or laser cannon in the short end, also inline.
storage for ammo or pistols in the arms.
handle/grip in the centerpoint. Spins? idk. i don't really go here yet.
Now. What's practically feasible with current technology?
For the long side:
machine guns exist, but actual fully automatic weapons are expensive and/or legally burdensome here, thanks to the NFA. for cost mitigation, the obvious alternative is the much less impressive but modular and ubiquitous ar-15 type of action. however, the AR's large distance from the breech to the rear of the action would create overlap issues for the central grip. offsetting the grip to one side in the z-axis could relieve this issue, but sacrifices a lot of the symmetrical aesthetics. an offset in the y-axis could also be considered, but would again greatly sacrifice aesthetics. Also, the ammunition feeding mechanism is tricky. the AR uses a typical detachable box magazine protruding from the receiver at a right angle. with a standard 30-round AR magazine, this would surely protrude from the overall silhouette below the level of the two arms, assuming a grip offset as mentioned above is not used. The fictional version also seems to use linked belts of ammunition, typical for the majority of military lmgs and larger, but not nearly as common on the civilian market, as belts don't make nearly as much performance difference in semiauto. also a belt feed mechanism is a lot more complicated than a box mag, which translates to high prices along with a feedback loop of low sales volume. five grand for an m c r upper is a lot, but an fn m249s is way more. both options are physically bulky.
for the short side:
high powered lasers do exist, and might be a decent size for this, but the ones i'm familiar with for sale on the civilian market have a stupid arbitrary power output limit imposed by the government.
Rocket launchers exist, but the physics of routing the backblast around the other components would be highly questionable in reality. Also they're an nfa restricted destructive device.
Those reasons and the physical packaging points me towards grenade launchers of the non-rocket-propelled variety, like an m203. actual 40mm versions are, again, legally burdensome nfa items, so a 37mm flare launcher would be the obvious alternative.
for the arms:
likely design dependent on what happens with the other two sides. belt or flare storage? put a hole through one to integrate a red dot sight? belt storage leading directly into the feeding mechanism would be ideal, but not really possible with the central grip.
i have some ideas for visualizing this but i can't sketch them out right now.

Was there any weapon that you preferred training with or were they each equal to you?
Training-wise, because they were just so much fun, probably the 40 Mike-Mike (40mm grenade launchers like the M203, specifically). Also, the AT4. "Back blast area all secure. YEEHAW!"
For actual use during deployments, I loved my M4 so much that I named it Ferdinand. I also actually enjoyed being in vehicle turrets manning the .50 cals. Those machine guns are like a giant middle finger.
You didn't ask, but I feel so strongly about it I'm gonna tell ya: On the flipside, I hate Berretta 9mms. Hate them. I have a scar on my hand from when a slide pinched the hell out of me.

grenade launcher
Tumblr media
40mm grenade launchers are some of the far more versatile tools inside the armory of the Usa military. That adaptability really comes because of all the different types of bullets you can shove engrossed. In fact , you may be shocked by just how many kinds of stuff you can shoot from the old bloop gun. Today, grenade launchers are heating some of the most advanced munitions you’ll find at any place on the battlefield, so that as technology continues to miniaturize, the legendary 40mm grenade will only discover more uses.
To get clear, I’m particularly addressing the hand held grenade launchers found in the hands from infantrymen; this includes your M203 and the M320, as well as the M79 varieties that keep flinging around. M79
Normal Munitions for 40mm Grenade Launchers
The term frequent munition is distant relative. As you’d anticipate, these 40mm grenade launchers can fire place both high beyond expectations grenades and huge explosive dual-purpose grenades for armored spots.
Additionally , most people recognize that these launchers will fire smoke grenades, which can provide concealment for troop actions, mark targets, along with really step up a spooky vibe for the seasonal Halloween functions.
Additionally , these firearms can fire flares that parachute for the ground, illuminating a good decent-sized area in a short period of time.
Every one of those are pretty traditional fare for anyone by having a grenade launcher, however , when we got past normal, we continue to see some interesting 40mm grenade launcher options.
Military grenade launchers have a long history that stretches back to ancient times. First used by China, the launchers saw accelerated development throughout the 20th Century. This site explores the history of military grenade launchers. Nothing is for sale.

Gun History: Colt XM148
Gun History: Colt XM148 – The First Grenade Launcher Made for the M16This 40mm launcher was made to be installed under the barrel of an M16, but problems caused it to be pulled from service and replaced. The M203 40mm grenade launcher slung under an M16 rifle is an iconic sight, giving the gun a distinct profile…it also freed up a grenadier to also be a rifleman. Before the M203, they were…
