I Should Have Known Better Then To Debate My Brother On Star Wars But I Did It Anyway

That's a lengthy way to start a post, I know, but I'm in a very riled up mood right now.

I remember the first time I argued with him about this. Our family did a rewatch of the Star Wars series (prequels than originals) at my request (and I usually never get emotional, so they were very concerned when I started crying my eyes out during Order 66 and asking if we should stop) and afterwards we talked.

Since I'm an avid Pro Jedi fan, there was a lot of arguing about 'The Jedi could have done this/should have done this!'. A bit with my family, but mostly with my brother since we're an argumentative pair and he's the only one who's watched extra materials such as TCW to further why the Jedi failed/should have done more.

We had to agree to disagree, so it ended there. Now here I am years later, having already talked to him about why glorifying this particularly abusive M/F is not peak romance or good writing, what defines bad writing, and general amatonormativity, and since I'm back in a SW swing, I thought about bringing it up to him, hoping he'd gotten a little more flexible since the last time we talked about it.

Clearly, I was too optimistic to think that.

Cue the usual tangent of (which I've already seen from. . . So many fans):

-The Jedi should have known Palpatine was a Sith.

-They should have treated Anakin better.

-They should have made him a Master.

-They shouldn't have given him that advice about death.

-Obi-Wan wasn't ready for a Padawan.

-They should have investigated Sifo-Dyas's murder.

-They should have investigated more.

-That's just the way the story is written and how the characters would react in real life, so of course Filoni is a good viewpoint on the Jedi.

. . . And just the general, 'they should have done more' statement that's been uttered countless times before.

I tried to point out the flaws in this way of thinking, I really did.

-It's established right in TPM that the Sith have been extinct for a very long time, and they verbally acknowledge that they don't know whether the one killed was the Master of the Apprentice, so it wasn't like they just up and forgot about the enemy that could still be out there. And it's literally stated in the very next movie that their ability to use the Force has been diminished, so it's not like they could have seen the Sith in plain sight in the force. Minor note, I know Force Signatures are mentioned a lot in fanon, but I don't remember anything like that ever being mentioned in canon (I know there's Legends but that's a separate continuity). With all that to keep in mind, why would they think he was a Sith? We have a different view of things because we're the audience, but they don't! Even though they didn't magically know he was the Sith Lord, that doesn't mean they're blind to his dealings or the corruption within the Senate, unless I completely hallucinated the part where the Jedi Masters were on their way to arrest Palpatine even before they learned he was a Sith Lord.

-Questioning a kid to see how he would respond to your ways of life is not being nice enough apparently (people can debate about his trauma and the authorial intent all day, but the basis is that the Jedi are not supposed to be framed as the bad guys). Apparently adopting him and treating him as a part of their family just isn't enough. Clearly, they should have coddled him even more, maybe then he wouldn't have murdered them down to the last child! (This is sarcasm because they never treated him differently or anything, even the Chosen One thing is barely brought up, and all his darkest moments are ones the Jedi were never made aware of). I know people will just say to put him in therapy because I've seen them say that many times before, but the truth is that he's already in therapy with the Jedi, he just doesn't absorb any of it because he doesn't want to.

-Yeah, because an adult throwing a temper tantrum when he's been appointed to a leading authority by a shady government leader who should not have any authority over their organization isn't sketchy as fuck, that response alone proves he WAS not ready, because he still didn't understand what the Jedi were about, much less mastery of himself. My brother at least admitted that was a good point when I outlined it, so score for me, I guess.

-People give Yoda grief all the time for his advice, but they always seem to forget that, firstly, Anakin is asking this during a war they've been fighting for three years, one they've lost many friends and family to, and secondly. . . Anakin was really fucking vague when he brought this forward. He doesn't even specify who he's talking about isn't a fellow Jedi, clone, or otherwise (And I can't help but draw a parallel to how he didn't tell Obi-Wan about his visions of Shmi and people will blame Obi-Wan when Anakin's the one who can't bother to properly fucking communicate) and he doesn't listen because it's not what he wants to hear. He doesn't just want to save Padme; he wants to cheat death because he's possessive and greedy and doesn't want his loved ones to ever leave him. Yoda's advice was actually very useful, but since when has Anakin ever listened to good advice? Once again, my brother admitted that was a good point, so the second score went to me.

-I know fandom loves to portray Obi-Wan as this self-hating mess that's barely keeping it together (who also does a lot of medic dodging for some reason?). . . But that's not who he is in canon? The real Obi-Wan is controlled and capable, and he was a young adult when he was Knighted, not a kid, who went on to become the youngest member of the Council when he became a Master. It wasn't like he was left to teach Anakin alone, because he had the Order, and they're canonically big on communal teaching. Even just in the movies, we frequently see that Obi-Wan's the one who reaches out to Anakin and Anakin's the one who shuts him out. Obi-Wan was a great teacher, Anakin was just a shit student.

-The Jedi learned about Sifo-Dyas's unauthorized role in the creation of the clone army literally right before the war broke out, so it wasn't like they were in a position where they could look more into it. Even before that, they were under the impression that he died during a failed peace negotiation. My brother still said this even though there was a literal WHOLE ASS ARC IN TCW WHERE THEY INVESTIGATED HIS DEATH. He watched that arc to, and he still says they should have investigated his death even when they literally did. I have no words for such a contradictory way of thinking.

-I know it's easy to say stuff like that, but Star Wars isn't written for adults who want all the messy bits, but for kids for a good vs evil story, so of course investigation stuff is shoved to the side. Even in TCW where we do see them investigating, they're hampered by the Senate, by Palpatine, by the war, and by the narrative. Even ignoring that, Anakin literally said in ROTS that Palpatine was the Sith THAT THEY WERE LOOKING FOR, so that means they were investigating even though we didn't see it onscreen.

-Filoni. . . God just thinking about him makes me angry. I could write a whole essay on how he's twisted the narrative for Star Wars so badly, and I hate essays, but plenty of people have already done it better, so I won't.

-But still, I think it's hilarious that I can point out certain things he's written terribly (TCW, TOTJ, TTB, and Ahsoka) to show that he doesn't like the Jedi, and my brother is still saying, 'well that's just how the story is written and how the characters will react so he doesn't really hate the Jedi with that sort of evidence and blah blah blah.'

-Of course, for TCW, my brother brought up that stupid arc where AsHoKa iS pErSeCuTeD - I just think it's funny how, with trying to make his special oc look good and the Jedi Council unlikable, Filoni accidentally made her unintentional unsympathetic and made the dOgMaTiC lEaDeRsHiP unintentionally sympathetic. And of course, who could forget the infamous s7 moment of her not being fair to Obi-Wan? I know people will say she's a teenager and she's confused and she's still feeling betrayed - but the thing is, that doesn't hold up because the narrative never follows up on it. It's not a personal flaw of hers, it's solely there to frame Ahsoka (and Bo-Katan/the Mandalorians by proxy) as right and Obi-Wan (and the Jedi Council/Order by proxy) as wrong. I'm sure there are more examples that can be noted, but those are definitely two of the biggest offenses in my book.

-Tales of the Jedi wasn't even about the Jedi, it was about two specific individuals who LEFT the Jedi. One who went on to become invincible/immortal/a sanctimonious prick/even more of a mouthpiece then she already was, the other went on to become the undisputed head of an enemy who went full throttle on genocide, slavery, and war crimes. Mace's treatment and Yaddle's treatment was more poorly veiled racism and even more poorly veiled Jedi hate. And of course, the super special training from Anakin that allowed Ahsoka to survive Order 66 unlike those useless unprepared Jedi who were too soft on their kids - but really just made him look like an incredibly abusive parent. Frankly, while I do hate Anakin and can see him pushing too hard as in character, even I can see that it could have been written a lot better than it was. Tales of the Jedi was a fucking joke because it should have been titled 'Tales of The Super Special Creators Pet OC and the Asshole Who Falls And Spearheads A War', and if we ever get Jedi content that is actually positive for them without the usual criticisms coming up (Kenobi's the only one so far that's come the closest) I'll be throwing a fucking party.

-Of course, I have to point out TBB's whitewashing, consistently carried over from TCW except even whiter, though I forgot to mention how that show just completely fucking forgot the Jedi existed. Though frankly, I wouldn't want them to be mentioned in the utter waste of time that TBB is.

-Ahsoka was made into even more of a mouthpiece in her show then she already was. I didn't even watch Rebels in its entirety because I don't care for it, but even with some of the more frustrating decisions with her in that span of time she never said the Order wouldn't have fallen if they had just brought in more non-Force Sensitives to train them into being Force Sensitive (another part of canon that Filoni has fucking taken a hammer to) singing Anakin's praises after she's 'saved' by him (though even in Rebels it got pretty egregious how she just fucking abandons the Rebellion and the Jedi because she won't leave him again) just being a general fandom anti on how the Order was at fault for everything and Anakin was actually predestined to become a Sith (instead of defying his destiny by attacking Mace and siding with Palpatine as per Word of God) so everything he did was justified. All written and directed by Filoni, just as the other pieces where he's had narrative control will label the Jedi as arrogant, as forgetful, as unworthy, as not ENOUGH. And as soon as he can, he shoves them aside for characters who are 'to cool to be a Jedi, a cooler Jedi than those useless old Order jerks who spent too much time playing politics and being too stringent because they were cautious rule followers and not plucky rebels and weren't loving enough to poor widdle Anakin and -'

Though frankly my brother had some pretty ludicrous takes in general. There was this whole tangent we had about how since Rex removed his chip and voided death, that makes him gray/puts him in a gray zone. I just bluescreened at that, because while I've never cared for morally gray characters/storytelling, a character stepping out of their slated place in the narrative so obviously isn't gray it's not even funny, it's infuriating. While I know a part of me being a writer is what helps me look at stories more critically, it still makes me feel so confused how people will just take in bad writing or come up with bullshit takes like this. Whatever happened to thinking critically for the good of storytelling?

. . . I don't usually write my own posts (even though I'm usually better at wording things than actually voicing an argument as it started with my brother) because I prefer to just reblog stuff on my blog, I wrote this primarily as a vent post because my argument with my brother really got me stirred up, but I've been in a salty sw mood lately so it was kind of cathartic to get this out.

Also, if any Jedi anti or fan comes at me with 'but actually the Jedi should have -' no. Please just don't. I always try to tag stuff properly so people who won't agree will know what my blog themes are about, I'm never in the mood for the run of a mill gotcha takes that infest this fandom and I will not hesitate to block you if you come onto my post for that.

If Lucasfilm hires you to develop a project what do you pitch?

Forgive me o’ Geode, friend and sender of fun asks, but the pitch would be me asking to use the restroom and then sneaking out through an open window.

I know! I know! What a boring answer! That sounds so cynical and unfun! Jess LOVES Star Wars content!! So why is she crying?!

Problem is, I think I would want to pitch The Acolyte. 

Of course, I disagree with Leslye Headland’s take on the Jedi Order completely. But I can’t say I didn’t have fun with that show, or that I wouldn’t have tried to do the exact same thing she did with some meaningful differences: get a Jedi-centric story away from the Skywalker Saga, explore weird places, make it dark and edgy and sexy, diverse leads, LGTBQIA+ characters treated like real characters, big tasty lightsaber fights. And it would get cancelled just like The Acolyte did, as none of the things I wanted to fix about the show were the reasons for its failure. 

I don’t think it’s just Star Wars, by the way. It is ROUGH out there for creative people working on projects, big or small. The industry is changing in ways that are still being realized as stories change to franchises which change to corporate properties managing streaming conglomerates. I imagine it will get a great deal worse before it gets better as companies start to cheap out on AI. I’ve talked to Netflix producers, friends who write for Marvel projects, and closer to home, my partner just realized the creative dream of a lifetime: the book he’s worked on for seven years got published by THE publisher in his scene. It’s a success! His fans are fantastic! The reviews are great! He’s sold so many copies so quickly that he would qualify for NYT bestsellers criteria if they listed his genre. His experience with the process was like pulling fucking teeth. He was unsupported with the book on every level by his publishers, fought for every good decision, and the whole process was exhausting and demoralizing.  

I can’t imagine how quickly the dream turns into a nightmare for someone taking on a Lucasfilm project, getting the chance to tell a story they’re deeply passionate about, and then it fails utterly for reasons entirely outside of their control.  

Anyway, without invoking Apollo’s red ball, I do want to talk about a Dooku: Jedi Lost adaptation for a second. Because of course, imagining well done cinematic scenes of certain favorite moments in that book - the Tirra ‘taka or Sifo-Dyas’s sandstorm while Dooku’s blue blade is just cutting down foes left and right - make my nips so hard they just break off and go flying around the room, smashing up the furniture. It’s impossible not to dream “well, what if they just did it really well?” 

But here’s where I think it falls apart. Regardless of how you view the platonic or romantic nature of Sifo-Dyas and Dooku's relationship, a good half the book is two male characters having intimate, affirming conversations about their feelings. Can you imagine a Star Wars property where the male leads look at each other and say lines like “you’re here. With me.” or the whole “I’m in.” “I”m in” exchange as their ship literally falls burning from the sky? Disney would probably turn it into a lightsaber fight, and yeah, I’d reblog the shit out of those gifs, but I think it would erase something core that I love in the narrative that is perfectly captured in the medium it’s in right now. Something tender and understated and rare.

....And even if they captured that aspect perfectly, part of the “fandom” that hadn’t seen a Star Wars film since May 2005 would bleat “woke” and complain that their wife left them because someone (me) ruined Count Dooku.

My hand gets tilted until the fork is at a ninety degree angle from my forearm. Dooku nods in satisfaction when I let it stay at that angle. “Can I try one?” Sifo-Dyas asks. I look down at the many remaining curls and release one into the currents of the Force. It floats upward and he leans forward to take the entire thing in one bite. He chews for a moment, tucking it into one cheek like a squirrel, then shifts it to the other cheek. I sigh. It's a curly fry not a wine tasting. “That's it?” Sifo-Dyas asks, after swallowing. The wetness of my cheeks only serves to increase the injured pout I give him. After a moment, he reaches for the condiment bottle proclaiming its contents to be Lava Sauce—HOTTER THAN MUSTAFAR!—and moves it to the opposite end of the table from me.

Wordlessly Ferris moves the camera to be facing both human and pokémon’s right. ‘Ads’, the houndoom, is so small, or the human so tall, that she is only the length of their torso. Ads turns her head to track Ferris but some calls and kissey sounds regain her attention to her floor buddy.

No Name moves their head so they’re leant on their chin. They bends their legs under themself to get the balls of their feet on the floor. They ready themself with a deep breath, then push themself up from their chin and chest, rolling back on their feet until they’re flat on the floor, and shakily standing upright. No Name nods to the houndoom and she gets into position.

She first tries pushing up using her snout instead of her chin. She gets part of the way up before losing momentum and flopping onto the floor. Ads swiftly tries again, bending her legs, walking her paws forward, pushing up from her chin. She doesn’t do so strong enough initially, but instead of falling down completely she uses her snout to bounce back. The houndoom manages to stand up for a few seconds. She then falls onto her behind, sitting more like a human toddler. Ferris hurried to kneel beside her, the camera looking down on her. She stares wide-eyed up to him. She blinks. Then effortlessly stands.

“You remember I have treats, don’t you?”

She continues to stare as Ferris steps back. Ads is now fully in view, as is No Name.

“I think we did it.”

“Hah HAH—!”

No Name’s triumphant cheer and attempted celebration jerks them off balance and they tumble backward. Now on their back, Wisp bundles in from elsewhere in the home to check on them while Krullers takes their place atop their stomach. Ads hops over and repeatedly lays back down on her stomach only to stand up again.

Since No Name’s fall, Ferris’ laughter becomes the only discernible sound. /End ID]

Stone needs to be fucked real good to even think he can be forgiven for the grave mistake he made.

Stone's only a good medic for kid if he's Girl Dad!Stone (because of course he's not going to let a random stranger doctor his kid). But he's not Girl Dad!Stone here, he's Canon!Stone. And Canon!Stone has only ever patched up adult soldiers in his life until he met Sylvester and Mārīte.

All this to say, he's never going to look away ever again. But also, he probably most likely would've never looked away in the first place (can we say thank you to his paranoia??) but for this scenario, we'll just pretend he somehow doesn't have the insane amount of paranoia that would've led to him not taking his eyes off of Mārīte on a horse.

I 100% agree with you. This is the only conclusion that I've been coming to.

For some weird reason, fans think the Asajj episode showed that Omega isn't Force Sensitive. It does no such thing. In fact, it makes ZERO SENSE FOR HER TO NOT BE.

Not even because of anything Omega's actually done. No no no.

But because it makes no sense for Nala Se to be as worried to high hell about her clone daughter's blood getting found out.

Because the only reason anyone would care about having an M count is if Jedi and Sith history has shown time and again that having an M count means higher Force sensitivity. They may not know the causation, but they DAMN SURE KNOW THE CORRELATION.

Stick with me here.

Nobody would ever give a shit if Omega's blood retained M count if having that retained M count didn't mean the subject would be Force sensitive as a result. Nala Se knows exactly what Palpatine wants, and we do too because we read the TROS novel and watched the Mandalorian. The FS clone is the END PRODUCT. If M counts have nothing to do with a FS body, than there is no reason to care about Omega or anyone retaining the M count added to it.

Palps wants a clone body of himself with his midichlorians that can retain his immense Force sensitivity and not break down.

If Omega's blood retained a high M count but didn't make her FS, Nala Se would not have cared about keeping quiet. Dr Hemlock would not have cared. Palpatine wouldn't care.

Nala Se could say, sure Omega has a high M count now because her blood retains it, and she's still vital and healthy, but she has no more FS than a rock. And if that's true, no one would care about pursuing Omega, especially if it was proven so.

It makes no sense at all to consider Omega worth pursuing if retaining an M count doesn't lead to Force sensitivity, because otherwise what the fuck is the point?

I re-watched the Fives arc recently, and it struck me that Nala Se did not want Fives talking to Palpatine--this only makes sense if she did not know Palpatine's involvement with inhibitor chips and everything else. She truly did only interact with Lord Tyrannus.

This means that Nala Se would have known of Palpatine's desires after this TCW storyline. It also confirms that the Kaminoans only worked with Sifo-Diyas, and Lord Tyrannus.

Omega is approximately ~10 years old in TBB season 1.

Either her M count is from Sifo-Dyas, or perchance Lord Tyrannus.

And frankly, I could see either one of those two men wanting either a FS army (with the former), or a clone of himself to inhabit (the latter, as he aged, or on behalf of Palpatine but unbeknownst to the Kaminoans).

It's the only thing that makes sense--either Sifo Dyas asked for a clone army, and a FS one if possible (to defend the Jedi), or maybe Tyrannus was curious about such a thing.

And note that Nala Se kept Omega in her private lab RIGHT UP UNTIL AFTER ORDER 66. She did not want the Jedi to go sniffing around and finding out she has a clone with an artificially elevated M count.

New theory time. Literally pulling this one out my ass.

So in legends Grevious was pumped full of Sifo Dyas’s blood to try to make him force sensitive. It didn’t work of course. But you know how Star Wars writers always love pulling from from Legends and reworking it.

Anyway my theory is Omega’s blood is special regardless of her high m-count, but I think how she got that high m-count is important. I don’t think she was born with a high m-count. I think she is the first artificial force sensitive.

Basically what I am saying is her blood was transfused with the blood of Sifo Dyas. That’s my wild theory for the day.

He came home drunk again, it didn’t surprise you anymore, it was just your nightly routine. He loudly opens the door on the verge of falling over, you guide him to the bathroom so he can bathe and vomit in peace, then you both get in the bed. Tonight was different however, very different.

Toji came into the door once again and you were there as usual, but you were sitting at the dining table just staring at the man standing in the door frame. “Toji, when is this going to end. I’m fucking tired.” You said in a defeated tone, he’s been stressing you out for the last three months. He stared at you like deer caught in headlights, “the fuck ‘dya mean…I’ve been nothin’ but good to ya.”

You left out a scoff that let made Tojis jaw tighten, he didn’t see what he was doing wrong and it was driving you crazy. How could he not see how this was wrong? Was he this dense when you met him? He just walked up to you and tried to kiss you like nothing was wrong, you turned your head away from him in disgust. “Get the fuck off me, just…get the hell off.” Toji stared at the pained expression on your face, tears threatening to escape, he clicked his tongue in disproval.

“I thought you weren’t a girl, so what’s with this pathetic face?” He grabbed you by your face till you locked eyes with him, “Real men don’t cry.” Toji let go of your face and pushed passed you to go lay down, you sat there mortified. You felt ashamed, embarrassed, and violated. What did you do to deserve that? You did nothing but help him, love him, and care for him.

You decided to sleep on the couch that night, you refused to be anywhere near him. You held the blankets close to you, your face was hot and your throat was sore. You didn’t realize you fell asleep until you felt Tojis hand on your face, you harshly slapped his hand away without opening your eyes. He let out a small grunt before poking your nose. “Hey, cmon big guy why’d you sleep out here? The bed is lonely without ya.”

You sat up without looking at him, he glanced up at you seeing your puffy eyes. He felt his heart ache, he hated seeing you like this. “Do you seriously not remember what you said to me last night?” Toji looked up at you puzzled, what the hell were you talking about? He started to think back on last night, thinking abt the night he came home. He bit his lower lip trying to figure out what you meant, it finally hit him.

“Real men don’t cry.”

Toji looked up at you in desperation, he cupped your face with large, scarred, shaky hands. “Hey hey look at me prince, I ain’t mean it I swear. Please look at me ‘m sorry, please look at me.” You look him in the eyes with a lifeless expression, you saw his eyes fulled to the brink with tears. “Please baby ‘m so so sorry, I won’t drink no more, please forgive me. I’ll treat ya the prince you are, please I’m sorry.”

You hugged his head close to your chest, both of you sobbing into each other. Soft “I love you’s” poured out of his mouth, he held you like he was going to lose you if he let go. “Fine, I’ll forgive you. If I even smell a drop of alcohol on you were done, and you have to do whatever I want for a week.”

Toji smiled up at you and kissed your chin softly, gently stroking your kinky curls.

“Anything for you my prince.”

Captain Judith Deuteros

Judith Deuteros, born interstellar, home Trentham of the Second House. Joined the JCTs (Junior Cohort Territorials) at eleven years old, commission to second lieutenant at fourteen. Attached to the Leviathan-class ship Emperor's Dominion at fifteen, awarded commendations in within-system war games. Promoted to first lieutenant at twenty and attached to Behemoth-class ship Rigor. On-board Rigor, saw intragalactic action wherein she headed an in-ship tactics unit alongside Lieutenant Dyas. Promoted to captain at twenty-two. Returned to Trentham to attend intelligence and officer training, as well as to pursue further necromantic studies.

NOTES: Forgive the third-person. The basis of my representation is made upon Lieutenant Dyas' skills as well as my birth, the equation being the sum of our parts. Two Cohort trainees, despite not having seen frontline action, could be said to have an unfair advantage in this arena. I have studied energy-transferral aptitude with Lt. Dyas since our school days. I am also widely trained across the schools, with an eye to military applications. I received a first-class rating at Trentham. As well as having passed psychological examinations, I will be interested in acquiring for the Cohort the first up-to-date intelligence on the First House in three hundred years. I have no family or marital responsibilities that will distract me.

Lieutenant Marta Dyas

Age 27

Marta Dyas, born on Trentham, home Trentham of the Second House. Joined the JCTs (Junior Cohort Territorials) at ten years old, commission to second lieutenant at fifteen. Awarded status of cavalier at twenty on attachment to Judith Deuteros with a bid for cavalier secondary, received honour title Marta the Second. Attached to the Leviathan-class ship Emperor's Dominion, awarded multiple commendations for within-system war games. House duel ranking maintained within the top three of the cavalier secondary class, top five general class. Promoted to first lieutenant at twenty-two, saw action on-board Rigor in the same circumstances as Captain Deuteros. Returned to Trentham in supporting role to Captain Deuteros, was ranked first in the system two years ago for her class in duelling.

NOTES: No cavalier primary currently in the system has Dyas' credentials. She has been training since childhood, received her first-class rating at Trentham and has established herself as a premier cavalier before thirty years old. Her House ranking, despite it being outside Cohort management, is extraordinary. Her offhand style is the dagger, but she has trained with a wide variety of weapons, both modern and archaic. She has no family or marital responsibilities to distract her, and is in every way an exemplary cavalier. In terms of the current line-up of cavaliers that the Houses are bringing, our data suggests that she is easily the best and most promising. Protesilaus Ebdoma of the Sixth has a famous ranking average, but his withdrawal into family duties suggests he is not at peak performance.

Third House

Crown Princess Coronabeth Tridentarius

Age 21

Coronabeth Tridentarius, born on Ida, home Ida of the Third House. Has received home instruction rather than attending a specific institution. No Cohort placement, nor any indication that Cohort placement will be sought. In line with Third tradition, is eldest and will take control of the House once her father relinquishes it. Necromantic aptitude animaphilia. A classic Third magician, but again, has not pursued scholarly betterment either on the Third or elsewhere. No marital ties.

NOTES: Coronabeth Tridentarius may be a necromantic dilettante or a powerhouse. Our intelligence is incomplete, and her lack of formal study in other places has muddied the issue. She enjoys popular status within her House and without. As well as being very physically imposing and extraordinarily beautiful, or at least very beautiful on a subjective level to many people, she also has a natural charisma. She and others around her have been known to mistake this charisma for leadership ability. Tridentarius has a long history of close interaction with the Second and the Fifth. I myself have known Corona, as she is familiarly known, since childhood, and she was capricious then. She is an intense personality, energetic, driven, and wildly ambitious, excellent with people and with wide appeal. As a necromancer we cannot begin to guess, but given other factors her ability to succeed in this endeavour is high, albeit it would create a power vacuum within the Third House. See below.

Princess lanthe Tridentarius

Age 21

Ianthe Tridentarius, born on Ida, home Ida of the Third House Has received home instruction rather than attending a specific institution No Cohort placement, nor any indication that Cohort placement will be sought. Has been ranked as third in line after her twin sister Coronabeth. Necromantic aptitude animaphilia. A classic Third magician, but as with her sister, a lack of extramural scholar ship means a lack of data as to how good they are. Ianthe has never performed necromancy without her sister in the room, which may indicate a lack of confidence or aptitude. She is in her attitudes much more languid and apathetic than her sister. No marital ties.

NOTES: lanthe is lesser than her sister in almost every way. She is much more physically frail, less able in social situations, more retiring, and frankly unappealing in personality. She is more inclined than Coronabeth to think before she speaks, but as they never appear in public without the other one, she defers entirely to her. Her physical characteristics next to Corona's own may indicate that her animaphilia-specific study is not as strong, or that she has chosen a different school. Her psychological profile suggests she looks to her sister for support. If Coronabeth is successful in becoming a Lyctor, scionship will fall to Ianthe. If both become Lyctors, it will fall outside the immediate family.

Prince Naberius Tern

Age 23

Naberius Tern, born on Ida, home Ida of the Third House. Only child of the previous cavalier primary. Resurrection-purity family, line has been serving Ida and providing cavaliers historically. Attended various academies and institutions on the Third as well as receiving home instruction with the princesses. Formal recognition of cavaliership when he was fourteen, but somewhat irregularly registered with both of them. As with the twins, no indication that Cohort placement was sought. House duel ranking maintained within the top five of his specific cavalier class, top five also in general class.

NOTES: Nominally Coronabeth's cavalier, but Ida has been internally and externally referring to him as being "both" their cavalier for years. His offhand style is the dagger, and classically the Third House threefold knife. He has maintained his very high duel ranking for years. We have data both formative and summative, however, suggesting that he is in danger of becoming more of a duellist than a swordsman. His bouts with Lt. Dyas have confirmed this. In personality, he is more public-facing than Ianthe, but less successful than Coronabeth; his mood is more changeable, he is more openly materialistic, he is inclined to be socially immature. He also has an extremely good opinion of himself and his swordplay, an opinion that Lt. Dyas notes occasionally aligns with reality.

Fourth House

Baron Isaac Tettares

Age 13

Isaac Tettares, born on Tisis. Resurrection-purity family, the eldest of eight. As is normal on the Fourth, children were a mix of vatwomb and XX carry. Father killed by terrorists out on (REDACTED] nineteen years ago: all of his children have been posthumous and the title held in stewardship. Trained at home with time spent in a school at Koniortos Court on the Fifth, on the direction of Abigail Pent. Strong spirit magician, ranks very highly for his age. Cohort was first sought two years ago, rejected first on age placement grounds and then on health grounds, again on advisement from the Fifth House. Will most likely be accepted next year should he choose to apply again.

NOTES: Isaac Tettares is a talented child. It is for us to wonder how far the Fifth House agitated for his inclusion among the invited pairs, and for what reason. It is very unlikely that Tettares will become a Lyctor any time soon, and it is my opinion that frankly it would not be desirable for him to become so due to his age and immaturity. Abigail Pent has forged a strong relationship with both Tettares and Chatur, much stronger even than her mothers' relationship with Tettares' father. It is already suggested that her nephew will be affianced to him once they are of age. This is a pity, as Isaac Tettares is suggestive of an interesting personality: less forceful than is common on the Fourth, but more reflective and restrained. It would be good for the Fourth House to take this direction. If the Second House can make any headway with the Fourth House during this process, they will.

Sir Jeannemary Chatur

Age 14

Jeannemary Chatur, born on Ops. Resurrection-purity family, second of six. Being the first non-necromancer of the line, she is her generation's Chatur. Mother given posthumous commendations by the Emperor after her death at [REDACTED], albeit she was in breach of agreement travelling there. Intended to be Isaac Tettares' cavalier from birth, swore the oath with him and gained the title at age nine. Cavalier primary only subsequent to last year's bombing. Attended all the same schools as Baron Tettares, maintains the same relationships as he with Abigail Pent. Cohort placement with her necromancer sought two years ago under her name, rejected on the same grounds.

NOTES: Jeannemary Chatur is also a talented child. Her offhand style is the dagger, and she actually made placement last year in her class ranking despite her age: it wasn't thought that she would get through the heats. Is the aggressor of the pair, boisterous and physical, albeit how much of this is personality and how much of this is age is a query. Both she and Tettares are eager to join the Cohort and would obviously be a huge asset if one can prevent native Fourth instinct from making too much headway. Lt. Dyas will watch her, but remains hands-off.

Fifth House

Lady Abigail Pent

Age 37

Abigail Pent, born at Koniortos Court. First of two. The famous historian, she received head of House five years ago, at which point her husband became her cavalier. Due to genetic failure of their chromosomes, her younger brother's children will become the next scions unless she names a different heir. Has studied on the Fifth, the Third, the Sixth, and the Eighth Houses. Possesses a slew of first-class degrees. Her necromancy is generalist with status as speaker to the dead, but she has published ten books, eighty-six articles and gives instruction as well as taking on the duties of the Fifth House leader. How devoted Abigail Pent really is to the leadership role is questionable, but she has more than maintained the Fifth's interests in the Fourth House. A formidable mind, a living asset, and undoubtedly future generations will look at her as one of the great historians of the Nine Houses. No Cohort placement ever sought, and Pent's sentiments have veered at times to anti-Cohort. As her grandfather was the previous Admiral of the Undying Fleet, where this sentiment came from is to be investigated.

NOTES: To keep close watch on. Pent's martial and necromantic presence is poor, but her cultural capital is high. If Pent became a Lyctor, it might be problematic.

Sir Magnus Quinn

Age 38

Magnus Quinn, born on Rhax. First of three. An administrator, only received cavalier training in his school days, never receiving a ranking or indeed ever distinguishing himself in the field. A much more capable civil servant, he reached seneschal status at Koniortos Court shortly before marrying Abigail Pent. Cohort placement was briefly sought when he was eighteen before it was rejected in-House, but no interest afterward. NOTES: Quinn is cavalier primary simply by unhappy coincidence. The Fifth House is undoubtedly chagrined at the timing. His offhand style is the dagger, but Quinn remains a schoolboy fighter. Marriage with Pent and the subsequent cavaliership seems to be entirely due to Pent's informal abdication of the future role. Some suggestion she will announce her brother as heir and step down in the mid future. Quinn himself is a Fifth House bureaucrat with all that entails.

Sixth House

Master Warden Palamedes Sextus

Age 20

Palamedes Sextus, born in the Library. Not much data is available on Palamedes Sextus. He is the youngest Master Warden by far ever to achieve the title, taking part in the examinations at thirteen and winning out over at least fifteen other and significantly older candidates. All of his publishing has so far been internal to the Sixth House, but second-hand accounts put him as being regarded as a genius by his Sixth peers (!). The Sixth House has maintained its position and strength rather than weakened during the first years with Sextus at the helm. Unfortunately, he has cleaved to his House's tradition of secrecy, and data is limited. No Cohort placement ever sought.

NOTES: I myself met the Master Warden once. Despite the reputation of ferocious intellect, his demeanour inclines to the light-hearted rather than the dignified or ponderous. More years in the position will perhaps lend him gravity, but on meeting, I would not have known he was the Master Warden without having been told before.

Camilla Hect

Age 20

Camilla Hect, born in the Library. Almost nothing is known of Camilla Hect except that she passed the examinations to become Palamedes Sextus' cavalier when she was twelve. She has not entered in any duelling tournaments or done informal bouts. No Cohort placement ever sought.

NOTES: She is registered as his second cousin; the genetic data is still readily available and reliable as the Sixth's leading concern. Offhand style is most likely the dagger, as the Sixth House do not have the confidence to move away from the classics. A pair who will most likely be flexible minds, but will not even bother to compete on the cavalier stage.

Seventh House

Duchess Dulcinea Septimus

Age 27

Dulcinea Septimus, born at Rhodes. Duchess Septimus has been removed multiple times to high-atmosphere facilities on-planet to convalesce, as she was publicly diagnosed with the Heptanary blood cancer as a child and her lifestyle has followed accordingly. Either necromancy or resilience has kept her alive long past the terminal diagnosis, and she has lived to be in her late twenties; whether or not she is in a stable position or deteriorating is not known, as she has not been seen in public for five years. No Cohort placement ever sought.

NOTES: Attempt to become a Lyctor may well be based entirely on the cavalier.

Protesilaus Ebdoma

Age 39

Protesilaus Ebdoma, born on Cypris. A well-regarded cavalier, he served Septimus' father as cavalier secondary before being given to Septimus, albeit this may well have been because Septimus was not expected to live and it would have been a waste to give her a cavalier close to her in age. Schooled privately. Sought Cohort placement at eighteen, and did tours to three separate front lines before returning home. Married with multiple children. Ranked first for three years running in the general class cavaliers duelling before retiring to attend to the Duchess Septimus. Has not partaken in any duels.

NOTES: From hearsay and reports, Protesilaus Ebdoma was enormously skilled. Offhand style is the chain. The Seventh House still rest on the laurels that Ebdoma won them, but why he was given to a necromancer with a terminal diagnosis is so particularly Seventh in character that it defies most reasoning. It may well be that he was never intended to be with her long and that the role was scaffolding him up into a more long-term cavalier primary role, but Septimus has failed to die and he has stayed with her. Marital and familial responsibilities back home mean his attention may be divided. Difficult to quantify

Eighth House

Master Silas Octakiseron

Age 16

Not much is known about the current head of the White Templars. He is young, but as is Eighth House tradition, would have been aware of his role from a very young age. He would also have been bonded with his cavalier in the extremes of youth. His age indicates that the Eighth House is sending a Templar confident in the genetic bonds to his cavalier, which means the cavalier will be closely related. As is traditional, we can safely surmise that Master Octakiseron is a soul adept, well-versed in the siphoning school.

NOTES: The Eighth House consists of both safe guesses and absolute enigmas.

??? Asht

Age 32, 34, or 37

There are three brothers currently registered as Asht, which would be the next in line to serve Octakiseron. In relationship, all three are genetically his nephew, albeit all of them are also significantly older. The Eighth House have not been well represented in duelling lists as of late, but this may be a reshuffle in House fighting expertise.

NOTES: Offhand style could be anything from the short sword to the shield or the claws. Eighth House cavaliers have tended in the past few generations toward close melee.

Ninth House

???

Absolutely nothing is known of the Ninth House necromancer, scion or cavalier. Due to their nonresponsive status, they may not even arrive. Shuttles are still ordered regularly to the site, but the contents have been blanked out in the system. Someone with a higher intelligence clearance than myself may want to check the database. After the Lyctor pilgrimage, suggest that the prison should be contacted to get a closer look around the perimeter and report findings back to us.

Offhand could be anything. The necromancer, although inevitably a bone adept, could be anyone. We will proceed with caution: the Ninth House is dangerous and may even warrant hostile status.

Last reclist of 2021, YAY. It wasn't the best year for me as far as reading goes. But all in all, I am happy that I decided to make these posts. I am probably not gonna do it for 2022, but never say never. Maybe I'll come back with more sporadic single fic sharing. ANYWAY, let's get into it. (And yes, I am aware that there are still 5 days left in December, but I'll be so busy I won't have much time for reading. Let alone writing posts.)

Star Wars (Prequels/The Clone Wars)

I don't think anyone is surprised at this post in seeing me mention this wonderful fic. I can honestly say that it made me ship two characters I knew very little about. Can't wait to read the sequel to this 500k premise. I already know I am gonna enjoy the plot with all the little hints we already have. (Honestly excited at the idea of seeing more Jedi I know nothing about get thrown in the mix. I am sure I'll end up falling in love with them as well).

How bad is it if at first I was excited about reading this fic just because I knew there was gonna be a bottom Obi-Wan with a major pain kink? Just kidding (not really but let's move on). The story is honestly tropey in the best way possible and I enjoyed reading it just as much as I enjoy every other fanfiction from this particular author. I can honestly say she's my "author of the year" and each time I get a notification that she posted a one-shot or finished one of her WIP, I forget about whatever I was reading and open her fanfiction. So, let's just say I mention this one fic of hers for this month but you can pick any other one in her author page and be sure it'll be a nice read. You just have to choose how dirty and deranged you're in the mood for.

The Witcher

This fic was so good that I stayed up til 2 AM despite having to wake up early the next morning to do a job interview. The way is takes a deep dive in Jaskier's mind and insecurities destroyed me in the best way possibile and I was literally sobbing while reading most of the last two chapters. Can't wait to read the sequel with Geralt's POV of the whole adventure because at this point I wanna absolutely know how much I need to call Geralt a hypocrite for never being the one how told Jaskier he was attracted to him.

You can tell I was in a mood for very heavy angst and curses during December because we have yet again a fic with someone suffering because they are dummies that refuse to actually speak. ANYWAY, I enjoyed way too much Geralt's POV and how he struggled with being close to Jaskier despite hurting. I honestly can perfectly understand Jaskier's rant after Geralt almost died in his arms.

Hi there! My name is Lily! I am a 24 year old female here looking primarily for some OCxOC! I would love to do either a F x F or M x F rp in a fantasy / Medieval / DND type setting with my female oc. I would love to plot with someone to flesh out a story between our characters based on a basic premise. For some quick info for anyone interested, basically my idea is that my character is on a quest to save her kingdom (I know super original) and your character can be either someone from her kingdom who is traveling with her, someone she met along the road, or even one of the people that she is trying to get her kingdom back from.
