Birthday fic and forgotten first meeting for platonic Ez and Lyra

Lyra is the new kindergarten student at Altaria Elementary School and very much doesn’t want to be there. She was put there by social services workers who found her living in an abandoned store with just a red blanket tied around her neck and a stray cat that she calls Echo.

Ezra and Vesper are two first graders who are known as the “Little Devils” of the playground, scamming kids out of their candy, lunch money, and sometimes the really good crayon boxes with sharpeners. They meet Lyra just as she’s entering the school gate, clutching a locket that the social services workers gave her to calm her down. They come up to her, charming her with pretty words and say that they are going to help her navigate the school, with only the small price of parting with her locket. Alarmed and frightened by two strange kids coming up to her and asking to take the only present she was ever given. Panicked, she kicks Ezra in the stomach and runs off, her red blanket flying in the wind behind her.

Granted, given their tiny terrors, getting kicked in the stomach is a little bit of a common occurrence, but Lyra is one of the shortest kids Ezra has ever seen, looks like she could be Snow White reincarnate with her red blanket cloak and just looks so innocent. But minutes later he is able to swindle a kid out of their jolly ranchers so he forgets about the encounter.

Later that year, Ez’s class gets an assignment to be buddies to one of the kindergarten classes, and he gets paired up with a tiny girl who’s known for being a sweetheart, though a bit strange and gets really defensive about the blanket around her neck. Lyra seems wary of him at first, but by showing her around the school and seeing himself as her older brother figure that she desperately needs, Ezra is able to break down Lyra’s walls and the two become friends, to the point that Ezra proudly introduces himself to others as Lyra’s big brother.

Fast forward to the end of the year party when Ezra realizes that he’s gotten to give Lyra a lot of her first moments in society (after she reveals to him that she was found alone very recently), but he’s never celebrated her birthday with her. Lyra responds that she doesn’t know when her birthday is and didn’t want to tell him because she thought it would make him sad. Ezra goes silent on her for the rest of the week, and Lyra begins to think whether she ruined her chance at friendship.

It turns out Ezra, in his good at heart first grade goodness, started to plan a surprise party for their resident snowpea with their other friends they’ve made over the course of the school year: of course Vesper and her second grade on-off best friend and winner of “Most Likely to go to the Principal’s Office” award Kieran, a rowdy third grader Quy who always carries a sippie cup of juice around and the fourth grade class president Zia. Obviously he has to invite his cubbie hold partner Ollie. And of course he has to invite the girl in Lyra’s kindergarten class, Wynnie, who always wears a cowboy hat and boots and always makes Lyra blush when she looks her way.

By the end of the weekend, they definitely pull off the surprise party well enough that Lyra starts crying and gets her first hug ever, which makes her cry more. Ezra has to take Lyra aside and ask if she’s okay, to which she quietly says “I’m so happy you’re my brother.”

For once, Ezra doesn’t know what to say.

Hair brushing/braiding and almost kiss for duststorm

After a particularly bad battle with a gang of outlaw giants that nearly destroys Wynnie’s farm, it’s clear that everyone needs a break and everyone has the night off. Quy is off getting high off their ass and Vesper and Ezra are breaking into the first alcohol cabinet they can find, leaving Lyra alone with a dwarf that makes her feel fuzzy.

After both wash themselves of blood and grime that got on them during the fight, Wynnie offers to brush and braid Lyra’s hair for her if the other can fix some minor things that were broken in the battle. Lyra agrees, mostly so she can have the opportunity to tinker with things. As Wynnie begins to work her fingers through Lyra’s hair, the fuzzy feelings that she exhibited after meeting Wynnie return tenfold and in the fuzziness, she feels hot and cold at the same time, confused but at peace, and overall just very aware of how close Wynnie is to her.

Wynnie continues braiding Lyra’s hair, which up to now has never been let down and Wynnie realizes is very long and soft. The more she braids, the more she and Lyra talk about their lives and what they’ve been through and Lyra admits to Wynnie about her parentage and why she left her hut in the first place. In turn, Wynnie tells Lyra about her family and her hopes for the future.

As they talk, they both lean closer to each other, closer than Lyra has to anyone since when she was first brought to human society. They lean closer, and Wynnie closes her eyes to kiss Lyra, and Lyra follows, unsure.

Then she pulls away at the last minute, leaving Wynnie to open her eyes in confusion. Lyra turns back to the clock she was fixing and presses hard against it as she waits for Wynnie to finish braiding her hair, and now Wynnie moves through her hair with sadness. 

Lyra wipes a tear away and digs her nails into her hand. She almost let herself be bewitched again. She’s better than this. She can’t let it happen again. She won’t.

1. What would be their favorite Disney (or other animated) movie?

She has a soft spot for Frozen just because it reminds her of snow, but she also really loves Dumbo and Bambi. They’re baby animals who deserve the best and she just wants to protect them.

2. What do they usually like for breakfast?

If she can get her hands on jelly donuts, she absolutely would eat that for breakfast. In her hut, she usually caught a rabbit and cooked it for breakfast as well as any fruits she could find.

3. What sort of cuddler are they?

Before Lyra learns that physical comfort is good, she does not want anyone touching her and chooses to physically isolate herself from everyone. It isn’t until she learns that she is allowed to seek comfort that she becomes the ultimate cuddler and the clingiest girl you’ll ever meet. She’ll hold onto you for dear life whether it’s hand holding, in bed, or even sitting on your lap. She’s trying to make up for lost time of never having comfort.

4. How do they say “I love you”?

It wasn’t until she saw people caring for each other that she learned what love was, so never used ‘I love you’, choosing to show her affection by trying to protect her friends, sometimes by taking the hit herself because she knows that her friends are squishy. Though the term for love really hit her once she started becoming close to Wynnie, thought about it for about a week, saying only about seven sentences total. When someone finally asks her what’s wrong, she turns to Wynnie and says “I think I understand now. I think I love you.”

5. What kind of shoes do they wear?

She wears the boots that was left with her when she was small. They’re a little small for her now as she’s had them since she was five, but they’re sturdy black boots that are perfect for stomping around in the snow.

If anyone knows Lyra even a little bit, they would know that Lyra does not take off her red cloak for anything, using it both as a way to keep herself hidden, and a security blanket.

7. Are they more inclined towards fashion or comfort?

Up until she sees how fashion can be used to make people feel more comfortable and even as a weapon, she doesn’t understand why people dress in ways that make it hard to run away or fight, and chooses comfort over fashion. But when she learns more about fashion, she’d like to try more fashion forward types of wear.

8. What makes them laugh?

Ezra’s funny hat, the various senseless things that Quy says, and of course whenever Echo does something cute.

Any type of carnations, though she tends to like the orange ones the best.

10. Would they be the one to propose to their significant other?

Nope, it already takes her a lot to even say I love you, plus she doesn’t know what proposals are unless she saw someone get married before. However, she would blush cherry red and probably start to cry if Wynnie asked Lyra to be her lifelong companion. Until she realizes that dwarves live about 500 years less than elves do.

Talking to herself, being very jumpy around people touching her, copying mannerisms of people she sees on the street, being way too blunt about things.

Anyone thinking she’s stupid just because she’s been out of society for so long, thinking that her new friends just use her for her ability to protect others and secretly and not so secretly mock her and would betray her as soon as she became useless.

She either wears it in a high ponytail or in a braid. You will never find her leaving it down, but you should try to get her to take it down because she looks absolutely adorable with her hair down.

Lyra still doesn’t know how money works, but once she did, she would absolutely buy any candy she sees on the shelves. She’d be more careful for nonfun items, but if it’s tasty or fun, she would buy fifteen.

She’ll only sleep after everyone else has gone to sleep just because she’s still not used to sleeping so close to other people and still subconsciously thinks that if she falls asleep before the others do, they’ll either kill her, steal everything and abandon her, or all of the above.

Thinking that her new friends will betray her, wondering if she’ll ever find her mother, and whether the people after her will catch her and punish her.

She likes doodling people she sees around town in her journal, and is actually quite good at it. She’s also pretty good at singing but will never let anyone hear it unless they sneak up on her.

She’d try to get them to talk about their problems and give them logical solutions that will make them happier and usually will say that if someone made them upset, she will go yell at them.

Lyra still tries to continue as normal when she’s sick, because she’s always had to take care of herself even when she’s puking. She’s a bit stubborn because she will try to do as much as she can to keep herself functioning without taking time to rest. Someone will have to reassure Lyra that she can trust others to take care of her when she isn’t able to take care of herself.

20. Do they say what they’re thinking, or keep their thoughts to themselves?

She says her immediate thoughts out loud, but doesn’t like saying her internal thoughts because she’s afraid that people will use it against her. Even after she becomes close to someone, they’d have to really show that she can trust them with her emotions.

The one thing she can say that the people she ran away from gave her was the Amulet of Melora, which is a beautiful necklace/cross that is bejeweled and definitely worth a ton of money.

She’s got a pretty good internal alarm clock, given by how long she knew she was alone in her hut. She’d be the responsible one in the group, reminding people that they have somewhere to be when the shadows reach that rock over there.

Strawberry, or anything fruity.

24. What would they order from a fast food/take-out place?

From fast food it would be chicken nuggets with sweet and sour sauce and a milkshake, but from a chinese takeout place it would be sweet and sour shrimp, cream cheese wontons, and orange chicken. Pretty much anything that mixes savory and sweet.

25. What is their favorite pizza topping(s)?

She’s a classic babe and only likes it with cheese and pepperoni.

She could scarf down sugar cookies by the dozen, but also really likes chocolate chip cookies.

No, but after looking at Vesper and Quy’s painted nails, she’s interested in trying it. She doesn’t want to say anything because of everyone in their team, them two are usually the ones to make fun of her (besides Kieran), but she likes the look of painted nails.

She thinks Candyland looks super cute (though she’s a little afraid of the licorice man) but she’s also amazing at pretty much any board game you sit in front of her.

Pants. You cannot fight in a skirt and you must be prepared to protect yourself at all time.

She often dreams about home or has nightmares about the people she’s running from finding her and punishing her. She also has strange dreams about a place far underground with two strange looking women following her.

Horses and loud noises. Horses are just because they look fucking weird, but she’s never had to deal with noises as loud as here before and absolutely hates it. She’s also found that that the louder the person is, usually how rude or mean they are correlates to that.

The Alolan form of Vulpix. She is definitely an ice fox baby.

She does not like being in any type of vehicle because she hates when she doesn’t have full control over a situation, but she would suck it up because she doesn’t want to be the one person not going along with something. She just silently hates all forms of travel that is not by foot.

I’m stuck between Alice or Rapunzel. On one hand, she’s a sweet baby entering a world she doesn’t understand and has two shithead twins bothering her, but on the other she’s been secluded from everyone for all of her life, has gorgeous hair, and has no idea who her real family is.

She’d be the mom that lets her kids express themselves however they want to as long as they know how to defend themselves and are safe. She would always be attentive because as she will eventually learn, that being a neglectful parent is not something that should be the norm.

Which parent do they look the most like?

Lyra never met Melora, but since she figures that she must look at least somewhat like her mother because there’s no one else to look like.

Is there a name they were almost given (either by their parents or during character creation)?

Her name was recovered from her prayer book that had her name on it, or at least as much as she could read it. She doesn’t know if her mother gave her any other name before.

What were they like as a kid (if they’re currently a child, what would they be like as a teen)?

Lyra was about the same she is currently, just the littlest more carefree. She loved getting dirty, drawing, and trying to take home any animal she could find. The only difference was that she would much rather hide than fight. She wasn’t as killer with her bow yet.

What’s their drinking tolerance and what kind of drunk are they?

She’s never had a drink before, but she has a very good drinking tolerance being a paladin. She can have about 5 drinks before she becomes a very passionate drunk. She’s not very angry or forceful but she’s very loud and will tell everyone that their opinion is stupid. This means that she’s also more likely to start fights, so she has to get pulled out of there to avoid shooting someone.

Where do they like to be touched?

It takes a long, long, long time for Lyra to enjoy being touched but after she gets more comfortable with touches, she will love random hugs throughout the day. She doesn’t really do well with people taking her hand because she likes to have her hands free, but she will love just being held.

Lyra’s ace, but in terms of cuddling she likes to be held. She’s been on her own for so long that she just wants someone to let her know it’s okay to let her guard down and sleep. Plus it just feels familiar somehow.

Surprisingly, Lyra loves anything that gets the heart racing. She loves the thrill of the hunt or any games that raise her heartrate. If she ever finds out about American Ninja Warrior, she’s gonna be so excited.

She can and will shoot you if you cross her. She’s full of fighty rage that’s already ready to be unleashed.

Living as a feral elf in the woods has really built up her pain tolerance. This girl has had her arm gnawed on by a bear and thinks it’s an every day thing. Lyra has nerves of steel.

She’s a mix of the Child and the Orphan. Her main goal is looking for her mother after remembering nothing but being on her own, and there’s definitely a loss of innocence that comes with going into the world for the first time, but she’s not completely helpless. She knows how to survive, she just needs to learn how to people.

Lyra was made for “Killer Rabbit” and even fits in with her nickname. Extremely cute, small, and seemingly harmless, but if you try to harm her or her family, she will shoot you without hesitation. And if that doesn’t work, she can and will claw your eyes out.

On one hand, “that’s what I’d thought you’d say, you dumb fucking horse.”

On the other, “No one look at me or I’ll kill myself.”

With the exception of love interests and immediate family, who are they closest to?

Outside of Ez and Ves, she’s spent the most time around Quy and although sometimes her Candq Kiq friend gives her several heart attacks about their survival skills and life choices, she would kill anyone who tried to hurt them.

What is their moral alignment? What would have to happen for it to shift?

Neutral Good. She fluctuates all across the good spectrum, as she doesn’t want to do anything bad that would get her in trouble but will also not hesitate to cut a bitch if they cross her. That being said, spending time with the twins and Quy would probably push her more to chaotic good because they are the Worst (in the best way)

But if people keep breaking the little snowpea’s heart and using her, she could definitely slide into true neutral where all she cares about is her own survival and nothing else.

Are they a morning person? What are they like before 8am?

Lyra used to get up at the crack of dawn to hunt and start gathering for the day. If not, she would be up drawing and taking stock of what she had. Before 8am she doesn’t talk much even if she’s not tired, and is scarily stealthy as to not to wake people.

What are they like when they’re tired?

Sleepy Lyra is a silly Lyra. She will make the randomest attempts at jokes and just say what’s on her mind which is usually really bizarre stories about her life in the snow. However, she will not sleep until one of the others makes her, at which she will agree immediately and go to bed.

What are they like in arguments?

Lyra is a yeller and crier in arguments. If she thinks she’s right, she will yell with her whole heart until she’s in tears about how you wronged her. If it means a lot to her, she will shoot you.

What is their dominant hand?

Left, though she’s learned to to multitask with both. In particular she likes to shoot and use her hatchet with her left, but she’s gotten pretty decent at throwing punches with her right hand while her left is busy.

Lyra has been alone most of her life, so she’s never really been more than a 6.5/10. But now that she’s with the others it feels familiar and safe, so she’s about a 7/10. Even if they give her regular heart attacks.

A: Aptitude

1. what are your oc’s natural abilities, things they’ve been doing since young?

She’s been hunting for herself as far back as she can remember and has become very adept at both the bow and arrow and hatchet. She’s also been tracking since she was little for the same reason. If you need someone to find a needle in a stack of needles, Lyra’s your gal.

She likes people watching and drawing them in her prayer book as well as copying their mannerisms to try to fit in with the human world. She knows that she sticks out because of her foreign heritage and does her best to make sure that nobody knows that she is out of place.

3. what abilities do they have that they’ve worked for?

She’s had to work to learn how to steal, particularly food. She doesn’t know why people scream at her and attack her when she takes an apple and wonders if they just don’t want her to eat. She’s also worked on keeping her anxiety in check when she’s in crowds because she hates drawing attention to herself.

Understanding human behaviors and laws. She is a good person and if she knew the laws she would follow them as much as she can, but because she’s spent so long solely on her own, she really only knows the way animals act and humans are very different types of creatures.

It may seem that given her isolation and limited experience around people, it may seem that Lyra’s very gullible, but she can usually spot a liar from a mile away, especially if it seems like they want to take something from her. It may come across as untrusting, but she just has very good insight and tends not to trust anyone on first glance.

D: Decoration

1. how would they decorate a house if they had one under their name?

She would make sure her house is surrounded by the snow she grew up in, but would make sure that her home is always warm with fire places and enough room for animals to run around in. She’d put little pictures on the walls so it feels welcoming and would have a shit ton of rugs, one for each room.

2. how would they decorate their child’s room?

An actual bed for one, with lots of cute little stuffed animals she finds in stores. She’d also have a ton of blankets for them and little play stations for them so they never get bored and hang glow in the dark stars on their ceiling so they can always look at the stars.

Her room was pretty much her entire hut, which consisted of a little table that held her bow and hatchet as well as her prayer book, and an old bedroll that didn’t last more than twenty years, so she slept on the ground with her cloak.

She really only has one type of wear, which is her black trousers, tan blouse, red cloak, and black boots. But she really likes trying on clothes. The only rule is that every outfit has to incorporate her cloak somehow. She would not let go of that cloak for anything.

She would love painting her nails and find it soothing and actually wouldn’t mind trying on makeup. When she sees Ves and sometimes Quy wear makeup, she thinks what it would be like if she tried it.

E: External Personality

Yeah, mostly, except how she views the world with curiosity and kindness would make her look happier than she actually is. She tends to be more quiet and sad on the inside, but doesn’t like to show it because she’s afraid people will take advantage of her for her sadness and homesickness.

Absolutely not. Lyra has never followed the norm mostly because she doesn’t know the norm. But she will probably just do what she thinks is right regardless, unless she’s being pressured to conform.

She tends to do her own thing and doesn’t really put much stock into ‘trends’. Sometimes she’ll try to follow the crowd just so she can learn their ways and fit in, but it’s less of a needing of belonging, and more internet safety.

Hell no, she doesn’t even know what an internet is.

She doesn’t put much of a front, so her portrayed personality is pretty much her actually personality.

She really likes to read her prayer book and doodle in it things she sees around where she currently lives. She also likes to play with Echo with little sticks.

Cuddling kittens and puppies with her closest friends and listening to soft music. It doesn’t take Lyra much to be content.

Once she gets over the Shit Twins trying to steal from her, she’d probably have a blast with Ezra as he teaches his new baby sister to loosen up, and Lyra teaches him that morals are important. She’d also have fun exploring the strange new world with Wynnie and her bright spirit Wynnie brings to everything.

Once she knows that rules are in place, she will try to follow them as much as she can. The only rule she may break is stealing animals. Especially if no one’s with them.

Not to have fun. It’s usually to steal food more than anything. But once she meets the party, since the rest of them are partiers, she would probably be dragged out.

G: Gorgeous

1. what is their most attractive external feature?

She’s got them big good elf eyes that are dark brown and so curious and kind. You want to get lost in them forever.

2. what is the most attractive part of their personality?

She is one of the most curious, innocent soul you’ll ever meet and even though she’s almost 80 years old, she’s 18 in body and mind and you just want to protect her in this bitch of a cruel world.

3. what benefits come with being their friend?

You’ll pretty much have access to pets 24/7 and you will also have someone who makes sure you see it to the end. Lyra places her value in her ability to protect herself and others, so you will be in excellent healer hands. Also she will be kind to you even if you don’t really deserve it.

She likes her kindness and survival instincts, but hates her naivete to human culture because it just puts her at a disadvantage at everything because she never knows what she’s doing is accepted or not.

She envies that people can go through life without caring what other people think of her and that they don’t get labeled as stupid every time they go outside. She also envies those who have someone they know love them. She doesn’t even know if there is someone there for her.

Cold. She always prefers to sleep by a fire and be covered by her cloak as a blanket.

Bisexual, leaning closer to women than men.

She figured that everyone has the ability to love anyone, as her prayer book didn’t discern between different types of attraction.

Not really? There weren’t any people to compare gender to, so she more sees herself as an elf over being a girl. But she is glad that she can see some people that look like her in the world.

She doesn’t have a family to come out to, but she hopes that they would be okay with it. Her new family that she finds in her party are all some shade of queer, so they’d be okay too.

Nope, Lyra is survival above all else. If she ever thought about suicide, you know for sure that something is deeply wrong (on top on how regular suicidal thoughts are a sign that something is wrong)

No unless she thinks that they are trying to attack her. If she even thought she was in danger she would 100% kill someone.

Nobody. She only wants to kill if it’s for self-protection. She would never kill someone for funsies.

Nobody. She is fully aware that she is the only one in this world and that there is no one there to love her, except maybe one person, which is who she is looking for.

She’s not sure. Probably the people that brought her here, now that they’re angry about her leaving. She’s imagining that some of the angry people she meets in town.

Cherries. It’s the fruit that makes the jelly, and those are her favorite treats.

Apples, mainly because she’s allergic to them. Also not a huge fan of lemons or anything sour.

Any type of vegetable, especially asparagus. They look like ugly trees.

Anything sweet and jelly filled.

1. would they want a daughter or a son?

She doesn’t want any children now, but she doesn’t mind either. She’d rather have animals though.

Probably two, so she knows that they will always have each other.

She would be such an attentive parent because she knows how harmful it is to be alone

She would probably name her daughter after her goddess, Melora, or gemstones like Ruby, Opal, or Esmeralda (which is Emerald in Spanish), or would name her after her friends. For a boy, she would probably name it after Ezra (since he’s the first one who really tries to befriend her), or something classic like Simon or Thomas.

She’s more inclined to adopt animals, but if she felt strongly about a child, she would adopt them. She knows what it’s like to have no one there for you.

N: Never Have I Ever

Be mean to people for no reason.

Collect every pet in the world. They’re the only creatures she know actually care for her.

When she was supposedly possessed by the person who brought her from her home and she was under the curse for about ten minutes. It was after that she swore she doesn’t want to be touched again.

She’s generally pessimistic hidden under a bubbly exterior. The way she acts, people think that she’s really optimistic, but if you actually got her opinion, it’s much more matter of fact and blunt.

2. are they openly optimistic, throwing it on others?

She is a little openly optimistic about others, and tries to voice it because she sees that her companions aren’t in the best of shape to survive (Ves and Ez are cynical and Quy is just... Quy) so she tries to be the spirit of hope for the group. Eventually she knows that she won’t be able to keep up the torch.

About 2/5 of her advice is good, especially if it has to do with morals or survival. The other 3/5 is because she doesn’t understand the deep underlying reason of why people are looking for advice.

No, she’s really the only optimistic one in her life. Wynnie maybe has the true optimism in her life.

She’s been more outwardly optimistic when she had people to be optimistic for, but her general feeling of the world’s been around since she was born.

Curiosity and kindness. She wants to learn exactly how each thing in this strange world works and wants to show people that they don’t have to be alone and can have friends.

Paranoid. Lyra believes that everyone she meets will eventually try to hurt her (given that about 98% of humans she met have in fact tried to hurt her).

Wynnie would love Lyra’s innocence and curiosity, and just finds her adorable. Ezra loves her curiosity and her gullibility. Vesper loves her vibe (not obnoxious like Ez), and while wouldn’t admit it, appreciates how earnest and honest Lyra is, especially for her matter of fact bluntness. Quy likes her sincerity and earnestness and that sometimes she’s okay teasing back.

Ez envies her ability to still believe that people should do the right thing, and Quy envies her innocence and her generosity, while everyone else envies her overall innocence and curiosity.

She hates that others can be so needlessly cruel to people and why some take advantage of those who don’t know any better.

She tends to only ask for help if she’s tried for herself and failed. She values self-sufficiency but will absolutely do it if she will fail without help.

She never had official class, but she would be the student that makes class five minutes late because she asks every question that comes to mind.

Nope, if she does not want to answer a question she will just shut down and stare at you. She doesn’t really like answering questions about what has happened to her because she thinks it’s her fault, but also hates to lie.

She asks every question she can think of just so she can catch up to the knowledge that the world has. She wants to know every little thing and doesn’t care if the questions sound weird. She’d rather ask them now than be ridiculed later on for not knowing.

She’s the definition of a curious Ravenclaw. She wants to find out every secret this world has to offer.

R: Rules

1. do they follow rules?

Generally no just because she’s still not sure of rules, but when she does know, she tries to follow them to the best of her ability.  Mostly out of fear of law enforcement, since people tend to regard them as deities of some kind.

2. would they be a strict or laid-back parent?

She would be laid-back, but would absolutely teach her kids how to survive. Time to wake up at 6am, you’re learning how to hunt and then you’re going to learn how to start a fire in the dark.

3. have they ever been consequenced for breaking a rule?

She’s almost been killed several time for breaking rules, particularly stealing since she’s not sure how transactions work. But she knows that she will be punished for breaking the only rule she was ever explicitly given.

There is one rule that she broke one of the first days she was in human society and she wishes she hadn’t been dumb and broken it because now she will never get what she deeply wants.

If there is an animal that you really, really, want and no one is around, you should be able to take that animal.

S: Streets

1. are they street-smart?

Absolutely not. She’s generally distrusting of people, which helps her from being too gullible and handing over her things, but she has no idea how human society works.

Once she knew how money worked, yes. Right now she doesn’t really know what the yellow circles do.

3. have they ever gotten in a fight on the streets?

Just once. When she saw a noble beating a stray dog for begging, and she tried to shoot him, but was beaten up by his guards. She never saw the noble after that.

4. has anything happened to them on the streets?

She was almost caught by guards when she stole a jelly roll from a shop. They spotted her as the shopkeep yelled at her to come back, and the guards began chasing her down the street. She was able to lose them after scaling a tree, but she was too scared to come down for several hours in fear that they would be waiting for her.

5. are they cautious when out?

She’s excessively cautious. She keeps her cloak up so no one sees her face and only goes in and out to take food or try on clothes (but never takes them). She tends to be calmer around children but usually is careful and anxious around adults.

T: Truth

1. are they honest?

For the most part. She doesn’t see any reason why she has to lie and if she doesn’t want to answer something, she will just not tell you anything. She’s a big fan of staring people down.

2. can they tell if someone is lying?

She has a +8 to insight. Her elf eyes see when she is being lied to. She’s naturally distrusting of people, so it’s all that easy to see who’s actually trying to take advantage of her.

3. is it obvious when they’re lying?

Yeah, she’s not used to lying so she stutters a lot when she’s doing it. She’s trying to work on that, though she doesn’t like lying to begin with. She’d rather just stay silent if she doesn’t want to tell the truth.

There’s nothing really she’s lied about so far. Everything she’s told people so far, she at least thinks it’s the truth.

5. have they told truths that have been spread against their will?

Her background has been spread throughout the group that took her from her home, and she is afraid that now they’re coming after her to kill her or capture her.

U: Underdog

1. have they been bullied?

Yes, especially by shopkeepers or guards. It’s mostly as a reaction to her stealing, but she’s also been bullied by general adults who think they can swindle her because she looks naive. She’s had a lot of “stupid girl” thrown at her over the few weeks she’s been in human society.

2. have they bullied anyone?

No, she would never bully anyone intentionally. She thinks there is no good reason to be mean to someone. Sometimes there’s a good reason to kill someone, but not mock them.

3. have they been physically attacked by a bully?

Lyra was once pushed to the ground by a guard when she tried to move past him because she saw a noble beating its dog. When she tried to get up and shoot the noble, the guard slapped her and would have grabbed her if she hadn’t run away.

4. have they ever been doubted?

Pretty much everyone she has met in her life doubted her at some point, and she knows it. Lyra knows that she is new to civilization and doesn’t know much about human culture but she also knows that in a game of survival, she’d win every time and doesn’t like to be thought as stupid.

The first time Lyra played Clue, she won within two rounds, and everyone thought it was beginner’s luck. Then she learned how to play Chess and kicked everyone’s asses. Don’t bet on any board game against her; you will lose your money every time.

V: Vomit

Nope, living up in the forest living off plants and cooking strange animals gave her a stomach of steel.

Only if she eats too many jellies. Otherwise she’s fine.

Yes, but she’s also kind of an asshole about it. She sees survival in black and white and won’t coddle you but be like “You are sick, so you need to stay in bed and I will bring you soup. If you try to move or do things that will make you more sick, you are foolish and you will die.”

She likes to be left alone when she’s sick unless the person has medical knowledge in which case she wants them to do as much as they can to heal her without touching her.

She goes limp when she’s vomiting, but tends to hiccup and shake. She doesn’t like the feeling of throwing up, especially since her mind always goes to poison.

Yes, she’s good at survival and knows how to find clean water sources.

Yes, but barely because in her hut it was freezing cold water and she had to learn to withstand the cold for minutes at a time.

2. what inspired you to create them?

In my poetry class we had to make a poem that used all five senses, so I wrote about a person who lived in the snowy forest all alone. And thus, the snowpea was born.

Not really? I haven’t done much with her as the campaign hasn’t started yet so she’s pretty similar to how she was when I created her.

4. do you enjoy writing them more than other characters?

She’s my sweet baby snowpea and I’d die for her. I also love playing her as most of my characters are more rough and tumble and have a ton of sass and Lyra literally cannot detect sarcasm.

Despite being naive about human culture, she’s actually pretty smart when it comes to survival and still manages to be a sweetheart while knowing that if you tried to mess with her, she would legit cut off your hand.

Z: Zebra

1. what’s their favorite animal?

Every animal is her favorite animal except horses because fuck horses. If you forced her at gunpoint to pick an absolute favorite though, she’d pick a snow owl because they’re fluffy and round.

Pretty much the only good thing in Lyra’s life is that animals exist. She’s had better experiences with animals overall than she’s had with humans.

She tends to like cats better just because they’re calmer, but she loves both.

She wants to own every pet that is possible to collect. Though once she saw a gecko next to a bridge she was sleeping under and tried to collect it. It got away before she could catch and she’s wanted one ever since.

Lyra is a slut for any sweet, fruity food so she would steal all the skittles she could get her hands on. It’s a good thing her cloak is so big because she just takes bags upon bags of skittles and put them wherever they fit in her clothes.

Who is their drinking buddy? If they don’t drink, which drunk friend would they watch over?

Eventually, I feel like Ves would try to corrupt everyone’s favorite snowpea and get her plastered and after Lyra gets over her fear of redheads and they have that great great female bonding that I crave.

She likes Miss Scarlett because she thinks they have the same red cloak. It’s the first time she thinks there’s people like her.

If they ever had to go to college, what major would they pick?

Animal Science. She loves animals more than people and wants to protect them.

Red, black, and white. She’s only worn her red cloak her whole life.

She likes any vine about animals, but her particular fave is the one with the little dog in the sweater who tries to run in the snow and just falls and gets stuck in a snowpile.

She runs a hateblog against horses, but mostly livetweets her confusion with human life and only posts videos of Echo doing cute stuff.

Zia is probably who she’d get along most with just because she doesn’t scare Lyra, but she would honestly ask anyone who was even remotely nice to her.
