CHEF review ***
Once again Saif Ali Khan failed to get into the skin of the main character that he is playing that is chef. He does well as a father of a child by portraying a fine father-son relationship but he doesn't do well as a chef, the titular role. Also the film is mostly based on the domestic life and family not the world of culinary professionals that was assumed as per the title.
The overall flow of the film is simple and it is related to domestic life and the problems associated with it. Nothing larger than life has been put to make it flashy and it works. Still the film has many things that make it fall short of touching the hearts of audience. It is a regular broken marriage story, a story where the end is expected to bring reunion or split. There are signs of happy ending in the climax but the abrupt ending surprises as the things are kept hanging in midair. It is left for the people to decide what is the fate of the lead character's relationship. Nobody knows what they are going to do further, meet or split.
Talking of the title, the protagonist is shown as a chef but not a renowned or aspiring but a simple street-famous chef. When Roshan Kalra (Saif Ali Khan) hits a customer at the restaurant where he works as a chef, he loses his job that prompts him to come to Kochi to spend some days with his son Arman (Svar Kamble), who lives with his ex-wife Radha Menon (Padmapriya). Roshan had planned to spend few days only but as his bonding grows with Arman, he extends his vacation and mends his relationship with Radha. After being taunted by Radha's good friend Biju (Milind Soman), Roshan starts his own roadside food truck. What follows is his tale with his family where the relationships are tested but we are not shown the end but given a hint only about it.
Highlights of the film are its scenic locations shot in Kerala. Saif's character is shown that of a short-tempered and arrogant guy who fights more than he talks. It is due to this trait that he loses his job and returns to India. The film passes a comment in subtext that what is important in our life- profession or family! At the time, when lots of families are broken for sake of profession and success, films like chef suggest that one should think twice before taking any crucial decision that affects the bonding of one's family. Success comes and goes but families are not so easy to make and break. No clue about the destiny of this film!

Storyline For 10 idyllic years, young Mija (An Seo Hyun) has been caretaker and constant companion to Okja-a massive animal and an even bigger friend-at her home in the mountains of South Korea. But that changes when a family-owned multinational conglomerate Mirando Corporation takes Okja for themselves and transports her to New York, where image obsessed and self-promoting CEO Lucy Mirando (Tilda Swinton) has big plans for Mija's dearest friend. With no particular plan but single-minded in intent, Mija sets out on a rescue mission, but her already daunting journey quickly becomes more complicated when she crosses paths with disparate groups of capitalists, demonstrators and consumers, each battling to control the fate of Okja…while all Mija wants to do is bring her friend home. Deftly blending genres, humor, poignancy and drama, Bong Joon Ho (Snowpiercer, The Host) begins with the gentlest of premises-the bond between man and animal-and ultimately creates a distinct and layered vision of the…
