Ideas for FNAF-Based Story
I’ve had this idea for probably less than a year now about making a story inspired by the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise, as well as by Welcome to DreamWorld, a video story arch series on YouTube also inspired by FNAF made by YouTuber Rainbott, whose videos I definitely recommend checking out, as I find their story also mighty interesting.
Now, of course, this story of mine I’ve been thinking of making goes by the name of Fantazmoland, and it broadly focuses on one of the founders of this theme park called Fantazmoland experimenting on human souls and putting them into inanimate objects to give them life, and while the rest of the plot may be strongly inspired specifically by Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, I picture it going on an otherwise pretty original path, and I intend to elaborate on it more in a following post.
Recently, however, I’ve been having this other FNAF-based story idea that bears a plot structure pretty similar to the first three FNAF games, mostly games 1 and 3, as well as an element or two from Sister Location, as I’ll elaborate on in a little bit, and it’s probably not as original as I intend Fantazmoland to be, though I’ve thought of a few twists, and I’m not quite sure if I’m going to incorporate it into my Fantazmoland story or just make it a separate story of its own, but I’m hoping you guys can help me out with a little advice and/or some suggestions, and I mostly came up with it as a sort of coping mechanism.
You see, the idea for this latter story came to me not long after having watched this episode of the Roxanne Wolf and Gregory Show, and for those who aren’t familiar with it, it’s a VRchat video series in which Roxanne Wolf and Gregory share a YouTube channel and have many adventures, and in which Roxanne has assumed the role as Gregory’s adoptive mother as of more or less somewhere around the latter half of last year.
Now, as you may have already found by now, in that specific episode I’ve just mentioned, Roxanne briefly alludes to Gregory of a past instance in which she’d once tried to…*gulp*…eviscerate him; now, I don’t know exactly when this happened, as I haven’t seen all of the episodes so far—and I’ve struggling to work up the nerve to watch the ones prior to one in which she’d finally repaired after having been shattered—or for what reason (but if any of you are already familiar with this series, feel free to inform me), despite playing the role as Gregory’s adoptive mother, though I’d initially presumed that it’d happened somewhere during her shattered phase, where she was lacking emotions as well as any motherly feelings she held for Gregory that had been induced by a maternity chip that was then lost after she got shattered — but, of course, any episodes I’d watched taking place after she got repaired make to mention of such evisceration, and instead mention a completely different thing she’d done to Gregory during her shattered phase which I won’t waste time elaborating on, but was, in my opinion, not quite as bad as trying to gruesomely murder your surrogate child.
Regardless, I still found it pretty whack to think that Roxanne would stoop to such a low as to murder a child just because she lacked a maternity chip and didn’t perceive herself as a mother figure to Gregory, and wouldn’t have expected such a thing before. Even Glamrock Freddy in Roxanne’s apology episode expresses his surprise and disappointment towards Shattered Roxy’s actions towards Greogory (though, of course, he wasn’t referring to any attempts at murdering or disemboweling Gregory), stating that he “felt like Gregory was a safe one, and that [Roxanne] would never do anything to him, maternity chip or not.” And while this isn’t the case, as you’ve most likely have already seen by now, I’d sometimes picture Roxanne excusing herself in saying that she’d “never been a big fan of kids,” not that it’s any valid or justifiable excuse for attempting cold-blooded murder.
With that in mind, I’ve also then tried to imagine how she might’ve tried to resume a “normal” life if she actually had succeeded in murdering Gregory, trying to resume her usual routine of performing in front of other children, only to then think to herself, “Ugh, great! I now have to deal with more snot-nosed brats” and that it might then lead to something of a child-murder spree probably not at all too dissimilar to when William Afton had murdered all those children in earlier FNAF games.
So, as a sufferer of OCD, and thusly often facing frequent torment from such thoughts, I’d come up with a story that kinda goes along pretty similar lines, focussing on a serial child-murderer born from being stuck in a position where she’s forced to attend/cater to/deal with children for most of the time despite having a strong distaste for children; this murder spree, of course, being catalyzed possibly from having first murdered a child or a couple or so children under her especial care, more or less essentially holding the role as children to her, be they biologically born to her or adoptive.
Now, of course, unlike my Joe the Slasher story idea, this isn’t simply about a serial killer murdering multiple kids; there’s an additional twist to it, also. I’ve pictured the souls of the children this story’s focal killer had murdered come back to haunt her and seek revenge against her. So far, the structure of this here story seems more or less kind of a rip-off of the FNAF franchise (especially FNAF 1, 3, and Sister Location), as I’ve pictured it involving the children’s spirits possessing animatronics, mannequins, or other anthropoid figures resident to whatever establishment our main villain works at, probably killing other employees therein as they mistake said employees for their murderer, as she most likely had her face hidden with some sort of mask or something while she’d killed those kids in order to hide her identity, and said murderer ultimately facing a death not unlike that of William Afton when he became Springtrap, and likely also coming back in sequels in a very similar fashion also.
However, I’ve tried to add some tweaks and more or less original twists to my story in attempt to make it less of a FNAF-ripoff.
For starters, our main villain is female, and whereas William Afton was English/British, I’ve considered making my villain possibly French if not American; in which case I’ve even picked out a name for her: Guadalupe Moreau, often called “Lupe” for short. And while I know Guadalupe is more of a Spanish name than a French one, I figured it can be excused considering how Spain and France are pretty close neighbors anyway — plus, “Lupe” sounds pretty similar to the French word for wolf, loup (masculine-tense, anyway…), making a bit of a nod towards Roxanne Wolf as inspiration for this character. I’d also pictured Lupe taking on the disguise of a mascot character who is also a wolf, sorta like how William Afton had taken on the disguise of Spring Bonnie when he was murdering those children.
Also, even though I’ve pictured her as having an aforementioned strong distaste for children, I’ve also thought that that might not have always been the case, and that she might’ve even started out as a more enthusiastic mother (or, at least, enthusiastic on becoming a mother, if she hadn’t been one already) before attaining postpartum depression after giving birth to a couple of kids, which later drives her to murder them, and then later a kid or two of hers she may’ve adopted some time earlier.
I’ve also strongly considered giving her the distinguishing feature of having heterochromatic eyes, with one being blue and the other green, and possibly even having a twin sister who also has heterochromatic eyes but colored in a reverse order to those of Lupe’s — not exactly sure what this twin sister’s role would be in the story, though I’ve had the vague concept of Lupe impersonating her after possibly eliminating her one way or another, this kinda taking inspiration from the “Miracle Child” episode of the Harmony and Horror video series made by another YouTuber by the name of Battington.
As to what role or occupation Lupe plays in the establishment the story takes place in, I’ve been indecisive as to whether it be as an entertainer for the kids if not some music performer like Roxy (but then what might be the point in the animatronics there?) or at least some sort of attendee to the kids, or possibly being the founder of the establishment alongside her possible sister, much like how William Afton was the founder of Fazbear Entertainment.
Secondly, the setting for the story might not necessarily be at a pizzeria, but maybe instead some sort of burger joint, though I’ve lately been having the idea that it may be a daycare, having gotten that idea from a video my YouTuber cha.momilie called Barbara’s Daycare, in which case I’ve come to strongly lean towards the idea of Lupe being its founder, having at least once been an aspiring mother herself at the time of the daycare’s founding.
Thirdly, if it helps, it the story might not even have that analogue horror plot structure where its a bunch of fragments one has to piece together in the right way and the big reveal comes later, and may instead be related completely through Lupe’s perspective — or maybe the story does come with some puzzle pieces that can be put together.
I guess it doesn’t matter too much if it’s a bit similar to FNAF, because it’s not like I necessarily intend to profit off of it; it’s just harmless fun and a therapeutic way to cope with my troubling thoughts concerning Roxanne Wolf in that one YouTube video series.
So, any thoughts or suggestions for this story from you guys? Please leave a comment and let me know. I’ll be introducing more concepts to this in later posts.

While I am absolutely enjoying The Daughter of Doctor Moreau I really wish Lupe could have gotten some POV chapters bc I think her perspective as a hybrid on the island who's constantly butting heads with the very sheltered Carlota and actively wants to leave would have added another fascinating layer to the story. Plus, Lupe is just fun and doesn't shy away from rubbing Carlota's nose in the fact that she's been willfully ignorant and naive the whole time. I think I really would have liked to see her inner thoughts and her small acts of rebellion throughout the story that we don't get to see through Carlota and Montgomery's perspectives for most of the book.

what if we've been wrong about eliot being the kinda guy who thinks don't shit where you eat logic of not dating your crew? eliot has consistently been shown he is willing to sleep with folks close to the con: kaye lynn (the studio job), mikel dayan, maria shipp, tabatha delavega (the low low price job), and lupe the hot "nun." he expresses attraction to tara and (obliquely in s1) arguably sophie. the only reason he stops flirting with maggie is because she's nates ex and bro code. then theres paul orozco. (shelley is a gay but they were incompatible so just a friend.) and obviously he had his toxic epic whirlwind that was life with moreau, the definition of squatting down in one's dining room.
imo a person who would use that phrase earnestly wouldn't get this close to people involved with their work (kaye lynn is a very damning example since they made out in the middle of the job). like, not to the extent of rejecting parker and hardison on just that premise? maybe you can argue that after something like moreau (and yes, yall, im not giving the option for no m/e here), that wrecked his comfort around True Crew versus the Person Of The Week
(tbh i think out of the three, if hardison had been older, maybeeeee he would have some reservations. but there's nothing canon to say that; i just think any queer person who is in a dnd group or WoW guild would learn to pause over messing with dynamics)

More thoughts on The Daughter of Doctor Moreau (which I kinda want to read again because it feels like I just flew through it the first time--I did finish it in less than 3 days).
Spoilers below the cut
The more I think about it, the more the hybrids feel like a metaphor for the colorism that can (and does) exist in mixed families. Obv (I'm mixed, myself) the metaphor is not saying literally that people with darker skin tones and features are more animalistic, that's stupid eugenicist crap (feels like I have to make that explicit on the internet thanks to so much bad faith discourse).
From a literary standpoint, Carlota, in particular, feels a lot like what it's like the be the more white presenting kid in a family. She's trotted out by her father as some sort of prize, receives privileges (like access to the laboratory, fine clothing, not having to work, etc) that the other hybrids don't, doesn't understand Lupe's struggles and frustrations with not being able to live openly and freely like the humans do, and she is seen by her father as a means to raising her family up out of what he considers a lowly position. Right down to Eduardo's father convincing him that it would be more appropriate for him to just keep Loti as a mistress instead of marrying her.
The more I think about it the more this feels like an examination and deconstruction of the idea of "mejorar la raza" (For those who don't know, that's a foul relic of an idea left over from the casta system that basically means if you marry or have kids with someone lighter you're making your bloodline better--still a pretty ingrained train of thought today. Seems like more people in my generation and younger are fighting against and deconstructing it, but it's definitely still cultural background noise for a lot of us).
Maybe I'm just reading my own experiences into it, or maybe it was intentional, but isn't that the point of literature and analysis?
I think this, even more than Mexican Gothic (which I do still want an adaptation of once the strike is over and the WGA and SAG get the protections they need and deserve), is really well suited to a series if we ever get a screen adaptation--it would provide a little more time to flesh out the hybrids and the relationships they have to each other and the human characters.
Final thought: thinking back it almost feels like we were going to get a different ending with Monty and Loti, but then there was some sort of "wait, no. People won't like the age gap" thing or maybe a "nah. examining the nature of real, deeply rooted love versus infatuation is too much with all the other issues this tackles" (despite most of Loti's thoughts and reactions to Monty pointing to her being in love with him, too. Like I said in my previous post about the book, she obviously doesn't realize it yet because it's not the type of love she's read about in her adventure novels, but someone being your sense of home--or at least intrinsic to it--feels like some real "this is the person I want to spend the rest of my life with" type shit). ESPECIALLY with the stipulation at the end that she can no longer use the Moreau name. She has no surname, and traditionally what does a woman do when she gets married? She gets a new surname anyway.

monthly media recap: march 2024
(embarrassingly short this time)
read:
The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia - I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of the original Island of Doctor Moreau, but I really enjoyed this retelling set in the 19th century Mexico. Loved how the story is woven into historical context, and how, while there is a love story, the plot doesn't revolve around it and the heroine's relationship with her family is a bigger motivation for her. Would've loved other hybrids aside from Lupe and Cachito (who were my favourite characters) to have had more personality; otherwise, a great book
+ currently reading: W.I.T.C.H. comics Volume uhhh 25 (I think), The Prisoner's Throne by Holly Black, and Raffles and Bunny short stories by E. W. Hornung through a Substack book club
watched: nothing to report here, alas
#in my defense i was writing and translating a fic AND had surprisingly much good stuff happening irl#like hanging out with a friend who came for a couple of days from czechia & going to a theatre and a national park with another friend#and buying and assembling a bookshelf that makes me have a booktok moment every time i look at it#it's a work in progress but i've already arranged everything so prettily#...and not so good stuff related to family and a terrible upstairs neighbour but let's focus on the good things#talk talk talk#monthly media recap

While Silvia Moreno-Garcia's The Daughter of Doctor Moreau is unsurprisingly inspired by Wells's The Island of Doctor familiarity with the inspiration - beyond knowing that it's about a Doctor that modified animals to make them more like humans - isn't necessary to appreciate it.
The general concept, Montgomery and Doctor Moreau are all recognisable if you have read the original but that's where the similarities end. It isn't a retelling or sequel. It's just borrowing the framework to tell a very different story.
It moves the location from an island in the pacific to Yucatán in Mexico (which is actually a peninsula rather than an island). Prendick the main character of Wells's book does not appear. Most significantly Moreau has a daughter who is the primary focus of the book.
The prose is solid. There are a handful of awkward sentences and it is occasionally corny but are the most part it's an enjoyable read.
At times the book overexplains things. If it was about scientific aspects I'd complain about infodumping but it's about mundane aspects of the setting that I can't see anyone needing explained. Relatedly the book occasionally has Montgomery condemn things that everyone reading already knows are wrong in a way that felt shoehorned in.
The plot, such as it is, is predictable. There are two twists which can be seen coming from the beginning of the book. I could even imagine someone guessing one of them just going off the title. Beyond that nothing unexpected happens. If you make the obvious guess for what will happen next you'll usually be right. The lack of twists isn't a problem in and of it self but the plot just feels uninspired.
One of the more interesting parts of the novel was that almost everyone stifles under the control of others. From the hybrids under Moreau's chemical leash, Montgomery under the debt and addiction that leaves him with little choice but to keep working his job and Carlota - the titular daughter - under her father's power.
Even a character in a position of power like Eduardo Lizalde considers himself, like Carlota, to be trapped by his father dictating his life. Moreau himself feels that his position is precarious and at the whims of his financial backer.
In some cases these feelings of powerlessness have more to do with perception than reality. It gradually becomes clear that if Moreau set his pride aside he has options. For Carlota and Montgomery while they are to a large extent bound by others they are also have a position of significant power over the hybrids. The book acknowledges all of this but never really goes anywhere with it. It's a shame because there's a lot of really interesting dynamics to dig into there but it's left unexplored.
I was also disappointed that it didn't show more of the hybrids. The story is told between alternating POVs of Carlota and Montgomery and while we hybrids appear they don't get the same development of the protagonists or even (with the exception of Lupe) the other human characters like Eduardo or Doctor Moreau. Not showing more of their perspective was a missed opportunity.
In general the book introduces a lot of interesting ideas, characters and themes but fails to do anything with them. They're introduced or sometimes just gestured at but never fully developed. All the building blocks for a fascinating construction are there but they aren't used to build anything.
Reading back over this it sounds more negative than I am about the book. I enjoyed it! It's genuinely good! This was the first book I've read by Moreno-Garcia and reading it left me wanting to read more by her. If I'm critical it's because it had the potential to be great but falls short.

Leverage Writing Prompt #37
Thanks for the submission @beenheresinceforever!
With all of the initial seasons showing Elliot Spencer and his hair getting with Hot 🔥 women. "sister Lupe"?? Anyone?? Eliot Spencer is the most likely to have a live child he doesn't know about.
Eliot Spencer moved around a lot as a military man, then as a hitter. His one brief fling way before he even joined the military results in a child. He never knew because his girlfriend married soon after he left. Life is normal for Spencer's kid who doesn't know boe care to know her biological father. Untill in true TV crime show fashion Damian Moreau kidnaps the now-teenager in retaliation for The San Lorenzo Job. And the mother contacts him to help her get her child back. Spencer's ex still doesn't tell him
The truth will come out when one of them needs a blood transfusion and they share the same rare blood group.

Leverage: The Girls’ Night Out/Boys’ Night Out Jobs
Random “read more” cut after a few lines because it gets long.
The Girls’ Night Out Job
Aw, I thought they’d bring Peggy along. --Ah! Maybe she’ll get involved after all.
Sophie’s outfit is great.
Parker is being a good friend, but awkwardly.
Tara and Sophie working together is-- <3 Perfection
Stolen/fake diplomatic ID: “Great for parking tickets.” I’m really enjoying the grifter banter.
She’s climbing the elevator cable in stilettos!?
Parker’s pride is on the line! (I forget which specific moment inspired this.)
“The Parker?” :D Parker’s famous! Well, of course she would be, among thieves.
The three of them planning and power-walking down this hallway--! Yesss.
Peggy is involved! With a frying pan! Aw yes.
2 minutes. C’mon, ladies of Leverage, save the day! --Yes! Evacuation!
(Hardison answers Sophie’s call while climbing a fence to get away from dogs) And weren’t they at a bar labeled “Mexican gang headquarters” earlier? ....What did poker night turn into??
Throw it out the window! And drink! I really do like Tara and Sophie’s approach to all this.
“I just play by a different set of rules” Yay Parker!
“Same is boring” Awwww Parker. :)
Aaaand Tara winds up with the hot thief guy! Nice touch.
The Boys’ Night Out Job
Aha, it’s the same night! So we will find out why they were in a gang HQ and climbing fences and stuff.
“And don’t say Maggie”-- I love this. They’re such a family by now and it’s great.
“Do not let him go off and sulk”--I love how Eliot is Deputy Nate Wrangler when Sophie’s out. Honestly, I love the dynamic between Eliot and Sophie. Sometimes it’s like she’s a much-older sister; sometimes it’s play-flirty (e.g. Rashoman Job flashbacks); sometimes, like this, it’s “you are the eldest child, keep the house from burning down while I’m out.” But it’s not quite any of those things. It’s just fun.
“Terrorism and peanut allergies don’t mix.” PFFFFT. Shelly is....intense, but goofy. I can see how he and Eliot are friends.
How’s Harley? (Hurley?) Oh! That guy! Rehab dude! The one who didn’t really understand why what he did was wrong. And this time he doesn’t even know--!
The argument about whether the church basement counts as holy ground is almost Monty Python-esque.
“This is the guy who helped me get clean and sober, which is kinda weird, since he’s kinda messed up himself”: Or, Nate Experiences the Mortifying Ordeal of Being Known.
Nate is getting hugged way more than he’s OK with.
How did Eliot do that with the umbrella?!
“Sister Lupe!” (heartbroken) “....Sister Lupe.....”
Shelly and Bonnano roughhousing. Good to see everyone’s friends get along. Also, there is so much orange soda in that fridge, and you can see those words crossing Shelly’s mind.
Everyone is enjoying this, aren’t they? The actors, I mean. Irish mob boss guy seems to like this role.
“That’s your pep talk?” LOL “It’s a little rough.” Heh. And Eliot can’t do much more than that, because then “I’d be thinking about you and Parker, which I never do!” ...Huh. There’s some extra stress there, not just the exasperation/ anger I’d expect from “Nate’s missing and you’re worrying about relationship stuff!?” It’s more the “I don’t want to talk about this” kind of stress from when he’s talking about Moreau in the park in The Big Bang Job. Not as intense, but similar, that sense of holding something in. Would I notice it if I weren’t primed to look for OT3? Maybe not, but...I’m noticing now, anyway.
“Assertive”--heh. Oh dear . . . Eliot is now like c’mon, man.
Of course Nate would end up pretending to be a priest. In a way, I’m surprised it took this long.
Meanwhile, Eliot beats people up without ruining Hardison’s assertiveness. Eliot is sweet. (Note: got to go back and see if the bar was full of choked-out guys in the other episode and I just missed it somehow. Like Hardison apparently does.) --So, there’s no way the gang leader was that focused on Mr. Assertive that he missed Eliot taking out everyone else in the room behind him. Eliot’s look at him as they’re leaving is somewhere between “thanks for not saying anything” and “you better not say anything,” and it is great.
Sidenote: I am pretty sure that Hardison actually did not notice, but if he did, I’m pretty sure it’s having the same effect as Parker’s “remember that thing you did with your pretend friends? With the lights and I’m pretty sure there was magic? That was really cool”: It didn’t work, but the fact that Eliot thought it would work, works.
Church escape! How did Nate get to a car that fast?
....It’d be a helluva plot twist if she is a nun.
Eliot’s quest to bolster Hardison’s confidence continues. Assuming Hardison really has a tell, Eliot lost rock-paper-scissors on purpose. And at the line “dogs out back,” he realizes he miscalculated. --Still, he has to keep up the awkward distraction flirting! Which also isn’t going quite as planned: “ Do you want to touch my gun?” The awkwardness is briefly real (he didn’t expect that, and also Eliot doesn’t like guns).
Bonnano! And Shelly! Who is eating pizza. They clearly gave up on their weird friends ever returning with food lol.
....So wait, what happened to the cancer drugs? It looks like they arranged for the two gangs to be caught with those too, instead of giving them back to Sister Lupe. Hm.
Eliot winds up with “Sister Lupe”--of course. And Peggy ends up with Harley, who has a cat! Cute.

Literally just finished reading The Daughter of Doctor Moreau. Loved it as much as I thought I would. The pacing in similar to Mexican Gothic.
Spoiler below the cut
I am however frustrated by one thing in particular: how did Carlota not realize she's in love with Monty by the end?!?! Obviously it's not the same infatuation she had with Eduardo, but like, girly pop you really are as unobservant as Lupe says you are. I know it makes sense since she's only 20. God I was about that oblivious at her age, too. But still...
For real though. I read this in about 3 days. It was great. I have more thoughts, but also a migraine that I'm fighting off, so I'll have to write them down later.
