I’m playing Genshin and I got to the point where I have to go to Inazuma (such a fun place btw/s), so I met Thoma and passed his little test blah blah blah. So now he wants me to find a way out of Ritou and meet him at Komore Teahouse.
When I get there, he made a comment of explains that bc we kept his waiting for oh so long, he came up with a prank blah blah blah.
However, it actually took my character a long time to meet him at the tea house bc not only did I deliver the letters/gifts for this two Romeo and Juliet themed side characters just to get a passport, I also met this shrine maiden with a Kitsune mask and completed the world quest for her where I had to do this Cleansing Ritual for the Sacred Sakura and it’s roots.
And I like to imagine my traveler telling Thoma that and him just going “You did what now?” While internally conflicted bc “I left her alone for 5 minutes” (it wasn’t really 5 minutes but you get the point) and “wow she really is the person that Kamisato Ayaka needs”
#Thoma: We’ll it took you guys so long#Lumine: Sorry we got held up delivering love letters and sweets just to get a passport#and we helped this ancient shrine maiden cleanse the Sacred Sakura and it’s roots#Thoma: You did what now?#Paimon: She said that we helped this shrine maiden complete this cleansing ritual!#Thoma: The Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual? the one from legend?#Lumine: Yes now keep up#Lumine: the shrine maiden wasn’t actually a shrine maiden but [insert what she actually was bc I forgot]#essentially Lumine info dumps what she went through and everything she learned in this world quest#meanwhile Thoma is thinking#‘wow I seriously underestimated her’#genshin impact#Genshin impact lumine#Genshin impact Thoma#genshin impact inazuma#lumine#thoma#inazuma

love story
summary: kinich makes a surprise visit to fontaine and wants to spend the entire day with you, no excuses.
warnings: gender neutral reader, fluff, might be ooc kinich (it's just my interpretation on his personality as of now).
notes: silly little kinich fic as my first post >< reblogs and comments are greatly appreciated :)
“kinich!” you exclaim from the hunters’ guild, a huge smile on your face as you see him walking towards you, a nonchalant look on his face as usual. “hey! i didn’t know you were visiting fontaine. you should have told me!”
“it wouldn’t be a surprise if i tell now would it?” kinich replies, ajaw beside him nodding in agreement. “what are you doing in the hunters’ guild? did you receive a new commission?”
“mhm,” you hum in reply. “lumine and paimon are taking a day off so i’m taking over their commissions for today!” you hand him the list of commissions that are currently available to do and you swear you can see a faint glint of disappointment in his eyes when he sees how many commissions there are to do. “i’m-”
“let me help.” kinich abruptly cuts you off. “you’ll get this finished faster when i’m helping. i’m allowed to help, right?” his eyes flicker over to katheryne who is smiling amusingly.
“yes of course, if that’s okay with y/n?” katheryne eyes you knowingly. despite katheryne being a robot, she has a clear understanding of the tension between you and kinich (a little too well, if you must say).
you clear your throat. “oh um- yeah of course you can help!” kinich smiles at your answer. he keeps the piece of paper containing the commission details inside his pocket.
“come on, no time to waste. we have lots of things to do today.” kinich exclaims almost excitedly, and you can’t help but wonder what plans he’s got for you today (because why else would he come all the way from natlan to fontaine?).
kinich indeed wasted no time because as soon as there was a fight, he jumped straight into it, killing the enemies almost instantly. before you know it, the commissions are all done hours before your predicted finish time.
kinich wipes the sweat away from his forehead, acting as if he didn’t just do all the commission for you. he turns around and gives you a big smile. “we’re done now, yeah? you’re finished with work?”
“um, yeah…” you stare at kinich as if he just ate a spider.
kinich tilts his head to the side. “what? why are you staring at me like that?”
“no it’s just,” you let out a small laugh, suddenly finding kinich’s actions a bit funny. “aren’t you acting a bit too… desperate?”
“d-desperate?” kinich stutters, a red hue filling his cheeks. “i don’t- i don’t know what you’re talking about.”
you raise your eyebrows. “really? so you did all my commissions in under ten minutes, used every single teleport waypoint instead of exploring the land like you always do, and made me watch you do the commissions instead of letting me help?”
kinich’s cheeks turn darker as you speak, and he immediately covers his face, as if his plan has been busted. “okay, you’re right. i’m… desperate.” he removes his hand from his face, pulling you into a tight hug. “i missed you so much, okay? my work lasted much longer than i had expected, and there was no time for me to write a letter to you.”
you can practically hear the pout in his voice. you gently pat his back, consoling him. “i missed you even more, kinich. how long has it been since we last met?”
“four weeks.” kinich says almost instantly.
you hum. kinich lets go of you, however, one of his hands is still holding one of yours tightly. he doesn’t say anything, and only focuses on caressing your hands, as if you are going to disappear when he lets go.
“kinich,” you call out, and his head whips up. “i’m not going anywhere.”
“i know, i’m sorry,” kinich sighs. “i had so many plans for us today but now i can’t even think of what we should do first.”
“well, considering i- we finish the list of commissions earlier than i had expected… why don’t we start from the top of the list?” you suggest. kinich’s eyes lit up, however, there is a glint of confusion behind it. “of course i know about the list. we’ve been dating for, what, four months now? i know you keep a list whenever we go out.”
kinich makes a sound of surprise and he lowers his head, slowly grabbing the piece of paper from his pocket. he hands it to you silently. “you know me too well, y/n.”
you smile, opening the paper. there aren’t many things on the paper, considering that he listed only five things; explore the court of fontaine, stop by the cafe there and have a nice little coffee date with y/n :), ride the aquabus (seems like fun), visit the opera epiclese, visit the chioriya boutique and gift y/n an outfit!
“wow…” you gasp in awe. “chioriya boutique? how’d you know i like her outfits?”
“remember the letter we last sent out to each other?” kinich asks and you nod. “well, you briefly mentioned her. how you love the outfits she makes and you made a little note on the side saying how you really want an outfit from her but you don’t have enough mora to buy one.”
“that- kinich that letter was probably sent a month ago! how do you still remember that?” you ask, surprised that he remembers the small detail.
kinich only smiles in response. “well, no time to explain. come on, let’s ride the aquabus! i’ve been dying to ride them ever since i got here.”
he pulls you and starts running, almost making you tumble. well, since he’s really excited, you can’t really complain. a happy kinich is a sight to behold.

i just want you to take me where your heart is
a diluc ragnvindr x female reader highschool au.
overview: and who could possibly be the golden boy’s type?
wc: 2k
notes: imagine diluc with his hair down in this one. and also. diluc’s father hasn’t d-worded in this au so he’s the happy diluc we all know and love before shit hit the fan ( we still love him even after shit hit the fan tho )
Diluc Ragnvindr is prim and proper. Chivalrous and well–mannered. The star athlete of the Favonious Birds. Intelligent, a leader, and a great speaker.
And of course, he’s every girl’s dream guy.
“. . . And yet, he’s still single,” Kaeya remarks with a smirk, and his friends around him laugh in unison.
Currently, he’s eating lunch with them in the campus’ outdoor park — a place of tranquility where some students prefer to hang. Instead of being involved in the hustle and bustle of what goes on in their cafeteria, be it your average food fights or impromptu musicals incited by a certain twin–braided man, said outdoor park was a better option for these lads to unwind.
“You know, I used to think that he and Jean would look good together,” a friend of Kaeya says, and they all turn to him. “She’s just like him: elegant and grades conscious. Takes part in student governments and volunteers to school events. Plus, she’s drop dead gorgeous! With her brilliant blue eyes and smooth blond hair, oh, if I was Diluc - I would not hesitate to date her!”
“Nah, I think Lumine is better,” They all glance next to their right. “She’s sporty, and she can definitely keep up with Diluc. She aces her tests without any difficulty, despite doing a part–time job every night with her brother in a nearby coffee shop, and it’s rumored that she makes the best drinks! Moreover, she’s a beauty. That’s why she keeps on receiving loads of love letters during the Windblume Festival every year, so it will not be surprising if she’ll be getting them again!”
Ah, yes. The Windblume Festival is fast approaching—now that January is about to end, in the next two weeks, Brightcrown High School’s air will surely be filled with nothing but endless romance.
Kaeya gazes up above, where a giant tree shadows their figures with its bright green leaves. The sunlight filters through the gaps and he basks into this moment of peace. He then adds playfully, “And Diluc will be busy tidying up his locker once more, because it will be filled with chocolates and letters.”
“What?! Does he even eat them? Tell him that he can donate, you know!”
Kaeya huffs, “My brother won’t even give me a piece, what makes you think he’ll hand you one?”
He remembers the time that Diluc had been so overwhelmed by the plethora of sweets, and yet seemed so appreciative about it. Father was just proud of the older son’s popularity. Kaeya offered to help him consume them all as a joke, but Diluc shook his head vigorously, saying that he shouldn’t, and that “they all worked hard for this”, and it was right that he only eat them.
How adorable of him, really.
Plus, Diluc even read the letters one by one. No matter how cringe or sickeningly sweet they were, Diluc read them all. And Kaeya wasn’t even shocked that there was no judgment in his face.
Diluc was just grateful for the gifts. Bashful, indeed, and sometimes he was not sure what to feel, but he was grateful.
“So, Diluc. Who will it be? Jean or Lumine?” Kaeya questions with a grin that afternoon, when the Windblume Festival is finally in full swing.
Diluc raises his head from the paper he’s answering — it’s a survey given to him by one of the juniors for their research subject — and frowns. “What brought this on? Why am I suddenly choosing between two friends?”
“Oh come on, you weren’t even listening!” Kaeya pouts, before sitting on a nearby desk.
After exploring the premises for some snacks and attractions, the brothers decided to stay inside an empty classroom for a while. They can hear some cheers from the outside, loud declarations of love and squeals from the majority, that surely Diluc thinks would be a delight for Kaeya, but has opted to accompany him instead.
“I was.” Diluc purses his lips, and hears laughter echoing through the halls as students run and get chased by disciplinary officers. “You and your friends were talking about the girls and I. I just don’t understand why you want me to choose. And be careful, you might fall. Don’t move so much.”
“Cooome on, Diluc,” Kaeya groans as he leans, “We’re sixteen, aren’t we? Father says we’re at that age, after all. By that, I meant, where we’re all supposed to be dating and courting?”
Diluc feels his cheeks slightly heat up from the words that escaped from Kaeya’s mouth. He returns to his duty of answering the survey. ( As if he needed to, when he was already done. ) “And I told you countless times that I’m not interested. Need I remind you that I don’t have the time for it. You know I still have to prepare for college, and that I have to keep an eye on my varsity scholarship, and—“
“Yadda, yadda, yadda——“
“Don’t yadda me, Kaeya. That’s just how it is.”
“You seriously aren’t interested?” Kaeya prods.
Diluc shoots him a firm stare. “Absolutely positive.”
And Kaeya sticks his tongue before hopping from the desk and making his way to the door. “Fine. But don’t think you’re off the hook just yet.” Diluc watches his retreating back. “I’ll make sure to find you a lady, and it’ll be your type, and you’ll fall in love.”
Kaeya pulls the door open. He confidently says, “It’ll be inevitable, Diluc. Inevitable!”
A small smile creeps its way to Diluc’s lips, finding this all amusing. “Then I wish you the best of luck.”
Kaeya huffs, not liking that Diluc seems so smug and unbothered by it, then leaves.
Diluc waits for a while. And waits.
And waits, until he blinks, checks his survey, before sighing heavily.
A brilliant shade of red coats his pale cheeks, and he buries his face in his hands.
Dating. Courting. The type of lady Diluc likes? Yeah. Diluc already has found his type.
( Kaeya doesn’t have to know yet. He hates lying, but it’s too soon. Maybe someday. If Diluc can face his feelings first. )
So, hear, hear! He’s not missing out, in spite of what his friends say.
This person is not what everyone expects; it’s not the formal and polite Jean who can deliver a speech eloquently, nor the radiant and loyal Lumine that they want to push toward his direction.
Instead. . .it’s someone else.
And that someone else dropped a bowl of soup to Principal Varka’s white slacks. That someone else triggered the anger of a certain math teacher because she climbed the roof so carelessly during class to fly a kite. That someone else got into detention and instead of writing I’ll be good from now on one hundred times, spent the day with the others in that session to tell ghost stories.
That someone else was you, who wasn’t like Jean or Lumine. That someone else was you—the you, who was his exact opposite, and yet managed to capture his heart.
You are one of Mond High’s known troublemakers, and apparently, he has fallen victim to your charms.
Maybe it began when you were just snickering with your buddies in the library despite the librarian‘s persistent shushing. He was solving his quadratic formula worksheets back then, and he was impressed that even if you were fooling around, you were in the library to actually learn more about the cardiovascular system, with the help of a fellow friend.
(“I will be proud to say that the one that carries the blood away from the heart is. . . arteries!”
“You’re right!”
“Yay!!”
“Shh!”)
Or maybe it began when you witnessed that one student who humiliated himself by accidentally slipping on the wet floor in the cafeteria, and everyone sans Diluc laughed. Then you came to his rescue, marching in the middle with all the attention on you.
You didn’t offer your hand.
But you purposefully slipped instead, and even had the most embarrassing fall. The cafeteria became noisier because of you, and Diluc, baffled at first, found himself chuckling soon after.
Actually, no.
He didn’t fall in love with you during those times. These were the times in his life that led to this one very moment—
When the Favonious Birds lost the tournament, Diluc was sulking in the playground, all by himself. He took the blame despite Kaeya and his friends denying it, but he knew better. If Diluc had just made it quickly to the ring, their team could’ve been victorious and brought the trophy home.
But alas, it was just an if. It didn’t happen.
Then, something wet drops in his hair. Then his arm. And nose. It was about to rain, and Diluc just grunted, not caring one bit. He was sure Adelinde would make a fuss about it, or his father would pester him for his carelessness, but he wasn’t in the mood to leave his spot just yet.
Let the rain wash away his sorrows.
Pitter–patter. Pitter–patter. Pitter–patter. Pitter–patter.
“Don’t match with the gloomy weather now.”
Diluc slowly lifted his head, wondering who spoke and what covered his pathetic and hunched form that was wallowing in despair. And his eyes grew wide when he saw you, almost bending with an umbrella in hand, sheltering you and him from the incoming downpour.
You smiled down at him, “There it is. Keep your head up, King! Your crown is falling.”
And Diluc’s heart skipped a beat the same time a thunder rumbled from the distance. “W–what. . . ?”
You continued, “I don’t know what got you all so sad, but everything will be fine soon! I’m sure of it! After all, once the rain passes, there will be a rainbow!” Then, you grabbed his cold and even bigger hand, and Diluc, at that split second, felt the static. You didn’t even react. But your hand was warm, and Diluc’s chest was, too.
Dumbfounded, he let you guide his fingers. It only came to him long after that he was gripping a metal handle. “Have my umbrella! I hope this will make your day a little better, and if it doesn’t. . . well, at least I tried. But I have to go now!”
You quickly put the hood over your head when the rain grew stronger. Diluc, concerned over your well–being, finally regained his composure to protest. “But what about you— hey. . . !”
He watched you run and wave, bidding farewell. “You don’t have to return it to me! It’s all yours! I really have to go, so see you, maybe? Bye!”
“But. . . !”
And Diluc. . . Diluc could catch you if he wanted. He could sprint and return the umbrella to its rightful owner, but he didn’t.
Instead, he remained in his position.
And his heart— oh, his heart. His heart couldn’t stop pounding that day.
You are Diluc’s first love.
That is established.
The thing is, this is a secret. No one knows yet. Just him.
He’s never felt this towards anyone before. You are his first.
( And hopefully the last. )
You’re different from everyone else. You’re different from him. You have your own unique methods of doing things. You have your own way of paving your path. You are the artist to your own canvas; the director of your own film.
You are like the sun. You brighten everyone’s day with your presence, and you also shine, because Diluc can’t keep his eyes off of you whenever you’re in the vicinity.
He knows that this is really an unexpected outcome – him, who was definitely out of your league and vice versa, catching feelings for someone like you.
( Someone like you who is free in life, and Diluc wants to feel that, even just for a bit, with you. )
But like before, all he can do is merely daydream and wonder about the what–ifs. What will it be like to be your friend? Will he experience all the shenanigans that you ensue? Will he also fly a kite with you? Will he get into detention?
Yet this is unbecoming. Improper. Inappropriate for someone like him—for the eldest son of the Ragnvindrs and for the next heir of the winery. He can’t indulge into lighthearted affairs or mischief. He’s supposed to be responsible and disciplined. A man of propriety.
So all he can ever do is have these thoughts. Just thoughts. He has more important matters to attend to, like college applications, training, lessons in handling the in winery business. . .
And . . . there’s no way that you’ll approach him again, right?
Diluc knows to himself that can do it instead, you know. He can approach you if he must, but . . . he’s just so shy.
And a lot of people are always around you. So who is he to burst your bubble, when you seem so finally content with your life?
Diluc peeks from the open windows and sees couples holding hands and sharing kisses. Briefly, he imagines what it would be like to experience romantic love during Windblume.
He feels his cheeks steam again.
Kaeya will surely have a field day once he sees his older brother being lovesick like this.
You really are one of Mond High’s troublemakers. And it’s not only because you prank your friends or piss off the teachers, but you make it hard for him to focus.
Just thinking of you never fails to make his heart perform somersaults.
He is Diluc Ragnvindr. Prim and proper. Chivalrous and well–mannered. The star athlete of the Favonious Birds. Intelligent, a leader, and a great speaker.
He is not every girl’s dream guy.
Because unfortunately, the girl he likes doesn’t even see him in a romantic light.

Character/s: Malleus Draconia x GN! Reader

A/N: This prompt/idea was requested by a friend!
WordCount: 800+ | 💌Masterlist | PART II HERE
Green lightning began to strike and forsake the grey sky. Every student on campus could hear the wind howling through the thick dripping rain, a sinking feeling of dread permanating through the atmosphere.
The aged concrete walls shook from a shrill scream, the anguished cry echoing out through the hundred chambers in the castle.
"YOUNG MASTER!" Sebek drove his fingers into his scalp, screaming as thick tears dribbled down his flushed face. From his reaction, you'd think he was the one who got hurt instead.
Lilia tutted and carefully inspected Malleus' head. The young prince was laying on the ground writhing in pain. Lillia pressed his thumb against the dragon's temple, examining the Fae's reaction.
Sebek and Silver surrounded the two, ensuring that no one could get past them. Malleus was in a vulnerable state right now, he had to be protected at all costs.
"The spell was quite powerful however it's not serious. Other than some temporary mental confusion, he should be fine." Lilia muttered, helping Malleus stand up. The young prince stumbled around for a bit, almost as if he was intoxicated.
"Malleus!" You threw the doors to the dorm open, running over to the group. It's only when you got closer did you notice your lover's spinning eyes, glazed over as he blinks at the blank concrete floors. Worried out of your mind, you rushed over to him.
"Tsunotarou! I heard what happened…are you okay?" The fae appeared a little puzzled. You stood before him and he fixed his gaze on you, confused and...disgusted?
With a hint of hesitance, you reached your hands up to cup his cheeks. Only to gasp when Malleus glowered and grasped onto your wrists, ripping your hands off of his face.
Silence fell over the room as he dropped his grip on your arms, allowing them to hang limply by your sides. Everyone gawked at Malleus as if he had just grown two heads.
Malleus? Malleus rejected your affection? The Malleus who waits outside your dorm an hour before classes just to walk you to school? The Malleus who once caused a week-long storm just because he couldn't sit next to you in class? Your Malleus?
You felt your heart sink. They say drunk words were sober thoughts. Did Malleus secretly despise you?
"Listen here-" Malleus snarled, his unfocused eyes flashing a luminous emerald green. The radiance and illumination hypnotizes you for a while. A kaleidoscope of green and blue swirling around the gems that were his eyes.
"No matter how alluring you look-you can't tempt me. I-" Malleus lurched forward, nearly falling over. You ran to catch him but he pushed you away, stepping back blindly. He raised a finger at you. "I-I already have a lover!"
"Yes-That's…me?" You blinked, confused out of your mind.
Malleus only scoffs at you, shakily taking a few steps towards the entrance. It was clear that his head still shook and ached from the spell's blow. Sebek was quick to stop him, holding Malleus steady. "Young Master! Where are you going?!"
"To my-my treasure. My darling prefect." Malleus slurred, leaning against Sebek for support. He continued his rambling. "It's Thursday- We have a club meeting."
"Tsuno-I mean-Malleus, today is Tuesday." You piped up, pressing a hand against his back. With shaky legs, he pushed Sebek off and turned to glare at you.
"Silence. It is not."
Lilia laughs hysterically, doubling over and grabbing onto his knees. Oh, this was comedy gold for him. Shaking his head at his father, Silver strode up to Malleus and placed his hand on the young prince's shoulder.
"Malleus, you're still delirious. Why don't you sit down."
Both Silver and Sebek started to guide the woozy fae onto the couch. You followed suit, taking a pillow and placing it under his head. He turned to face you, his head spinning, a loopy snarl and glare on his face.
"I...I already told you- I have a lover." He groans into his hands, nausea washing over him like waves.
The fae begins frantically rummaging through his pocket. He yanks out a little locket in the form of a heart, holding it up for you to look at. He hands it to you with an arrogant smirk on his face.
"See?"
"O-Oh?"Gently taking it into your hands, you flipped the metal cover over to see a picture of you inside.
It was a photo from your very first anniversary. You were wearing a flower crown made with roses Malleus grew himself, it was one of the many gifts he gave you that day.
Though only your head and neck could be seen in the picture since his coat had almost completely engulfed you. It was a chilly day and Malleus graciously lent you his coat after you had forgotten to wear one.
You stared at the photo fondly, shutting it close before handing the necklace back to the fae.
"Your partner must be lovely." You whisper softly and Malleus sighs, lolling his head back to stare at the ceiling lovingly.
"Oh. They are much more than that."

Reverse trope prompt: Fake amnesia
Full prompt list here by @out-of-jams
Soap x reader
Maybe? NSFW - Soap gets a wee bit handsy with reader, nothing sexually explicit, profanity, soap is a sneaky lil shit
dividers by: @saradika-graphics
"Where's me bonnie lass?"
"She's comin', lad," Price murmurs, giving Soap's shoulder a gentle pat. He squats down beside his wheelchair to peer into his sergeant's eyes. "Ya feelin' alright? Head hurtin' ya?"
Soap squints at his captain, suspicious. "Oi! Yer no' another one o' them doctors, are ye? Feckin' numpties willnae leave me alone."
Price sighs, shakes his head and stands. "No, lad. I'm— just visitin'."
Soap's face splits into a grin. "Oh. Well, tha's a'right, then. Dinnae mind visitors. Do ye ken tha' big bloke tha' wears a skelly mask? 'E comes t'visit meh, too." Soap leans in, voice dipping low. " Bit of an odd duck, tha' one. Tol' meh 'e was a ghost." His eyebrows arch high on his forehead. "An' the docs say I'm th'one wit' brain damage."
Price huffs a short laugh despite himself. "That's his callsign, lad. Do ya remember yours?"
"Callsign?" Soap repeats, looking confused.
"Never mind. 'S not important right now."
Soap nods, his eyes trailing back to the door. "'Ave ye seen the gas man about? Mehbeh he kens where me lass is."
"Gas man?" Price mutters, frowning, then understanding dawns. "Ah. Ya mean Gaz. He's uh— at work. Won't be around for a few days, I'm afraid."
"Oh. Tha's too bad. 'E's good at findin' m'lass fer meh." He raises a hand to scratch at the scar tissue on the side of his head. "Doan s'pose ye'd be willin' t'ave a look 'round fer 'er, would ye? Ah miss 'er." His blue eyes shine bright and luminous with hope.
Price nods, chuckling. "A'course, lad. I'll see if I can find her f'ya."
Price turns on the telly for him before he leaves, flipping it to a cartoon channel. Soap's loud guffaw follows him out into the hallway. Passing the nurses' station, he gives a nod to a couple of the nurses as he heads towards the cafeteria, where he last saw you. He breathes a sigh of relief when he spots you sitting with Ghost, a cup of tea in your hands.
You watch the captain's approach, taking in his expression, then grimace. His look is apologetic when he murmurs, "He's askin' f'ya, again, lass."
"Bloody hell," you mutter, squeezing your eyes shut as you pinch the bridge of your nose.
Ghost grunts, eyes narrowing. "Funny, tha'. Johnny can't remember any'a us, but he's got no problem remembering 'er?" He tilts his head. "Bit strange, innit?"
Price shrugs. "Hard t'say, with an injury like that. Docs say he might regain some of his memory, he might not. No way t'tell."
You sigh, turning your weary gaze on Ghost. "His memory of me isn't perfect, either, ya know? You remember how he used to give me hell all the time. Now he thinks I'm his bloody girlfriend, for Chrissakes! He told Gaz we were engaged yesterday. It's bloody mental."
Ghost hums but says no more.
Blowing out a tired breath, you push yourself up from your chair. "Guess I better get back up there before he comes looking for me again. Thought that head nurse was going to string those other poor nurses up by their heels when Johnny gave 'em the slip."
Price laughs lowly. "And in a wheelchair, no less. Made it all the way to the exit before they caught up with him."
Ghost grunts as he stands, shuffling away from the table to join you. "I'll go wiff ya. Johnny might behave himself better if I'm there."
You snort at that. "Yeah, right. Might as well restrain him, because he won't keep his hands to himself, I can promise ya that."
As soon as you enter Soap's room, he beams a huge smile, his arms up, grabby hands reaching for you. "There ye are! C'mere, bonnie. Gie us a hug."
You point at him, a stern expression on your face. "Promise you'll behave, first. No feeling me up this time."
He gazes up at you, looking like a whipped pup. "Ayre ye mad at me, bon? Did I do somethin' bad? Ah'm sorry."
His pitiful pout melts your resolve instantly. "I'm not mad at you, Johnny. Don't get upset. Everything's alright," you soothe, voice soft as you step close to smooth your hand over his shaggy mohawk.
Ghost doesn't miss the mischievous little flash in Soap's eyes before he grins and grabs you by the hips, pulling you into his lap. You yelp, trying to be careful of his head as you try to push his face from between your breasts. The man doesn't let up, wallowing you like a fussy toddler, his big hands holding you in place. You give another yelp when he gets hold of your ass cheek and squeezes.
"Oi, ya cheeky git," Ghost barks. "Yer bein' too rough!"
Soap cuts a sly glance his way before settling his chin on your chest, smiling sweetly up at you. "Ah dinnae hurt ye, did I, bon?"
You sigh, flustered, trying to be patient. "No, Johnny. You just— startled me." You puff out a breath, prying his hand off your ass.
Soap gives Ghost a smug little smirk, hugging you so tight, you squeak. "See, LT? Ah wasnae bein' too rough. Ah jus' startled 'er."
You lay a hand on his cheek to get his attention back, melting a little more at the open adoration in his gaze. "You should still be more careful, Johnny," you chide him gently. "You get excited and grab my bum too hard sometimes. You leave bruises."
He perks up at that. "Aye? Bruises, ye say? Can ye show me? Ah promise t'kiss 'em all better."
You can't help but laugh. "You're incorrigible, you know that?"
Soap nuzzles your chest and grins. "Aye, but ye love meh anyway, doan ye, bon?"
You only manage to escape when one of the nurses finally comes in to give Soap his medication and check his vitals. You scurry out the door, looking a right mess, disheveled and breathing heavy, mumbling something about getting some water.
Ghost stands by quietly as the nurse takes Johnny's vitals, eyeing him intently the whole time. Once she exits the room, Soap turns a guileless expression to his lieutenant. "Somethin' the matter, Mr. Ghost?"
Ghost huffs a laugh, shaking his head. "Give it up, Johnny. Ya fucked up, mate. She didn't catch it, but I did." He comes closer, leaning down to whisper at Soap's ear, "Or did ya jus' suddenly remember I'm yer LT?"
He chuckles lowly when Soap sucks in a sharp breath. He straightens back to his full height, looming over the now worried looking Scot.
"I'll keep m'mouth shut, so long as ya come clean wiff the captain. Poor sod's been worryin' 'imself sick over ya."
"A'right," Soap grumbles, bottom lip poking out.
You return moments later, a bottle of water in one hand, a pudding cup and spoon in the other.
"Look what I nicked for ya, Johnny. Butterscotch pudding. Your favorite."
He gives you a hangdog look. "Can we lay in bed while ye feed it t'meh? Ah'm feelin' a wee bit tired."
"Sure, love. Ghost, will ya help me get him in the bed?"
Ghost helps put him to bed without comment, but pins the sergeant with a knowing look while you're climbing into bed with him.
Soap slants a mischievous look up at his lieutenant, teeth flashing in a quick grin, and winks.

————
“Here again?” You query while you shade your eyes from the luminous sun starting to peek over the roof of the Dragonpit. “Another rendezvous?” You smile.
Aemond looks away from Aerion in his arms and shakes his head. “No, it’s something else.”
You squint your eyes and probe for more. “Like?”
Before Aemond can answer a Kingsguard shouting catches your attention. “Stand back!”
You look over and notice some Smallfolk trying to approach the stairs in an attempt to reach you. “Princess!”
“Princess!”
“Over here!”
Unlike before this time the calls aren’t born from admiration and excitement, you can hear the desperation in their voice as they try and steal your attention. You can see the plea for help in their eyes, the helplessness, and the hunger.
“Bring us some food, please!”
Your help wasn’t widespread, you would feed and give money to those few people you came across. You were never allowed to do more than that, but your charity is well known now that they’re looking for any kind of help. Anything that can feed their growling stomachs, and needing children.
“<I told you,” Aemond remarks in High Valyrian. “Feed one stray dog and others won’t fail to follow to beg too.>”
You glance at him with a disturbed look before you take a look at all the people you can’t help when they need you the most. You have money, but what good is that when there’s hardly any food for them to buy? All you can do is offer them an apologetic look before you ignore them and drive your attention to this early morning adventure Aemond has yet to explain.
“So are you going to tell me why we’re here?” You pressure him to fill your curiosity.
Yet he just smirks at you, making you roll your eyes and focus on the building holding sacred power just under its surface.
Which is pretty unbelievable! These powerful dragons your family can ride, that you can use to burn down towns and people to ash are kept in chains under a stone building that they can easily destroy, or that can also easily be their death.
It’s crazy to think about, but it’s true isn't it? If your mother decided to come in secret with all the dragons at her side they could attack the Dragonpit, and the rubble could be the dragon's death. Your dragon's death…
Thinking of Astraea dying is worse than thinking of someone you love dying. You’ve known your dragon since you were a babe, literally, she hatched when you were only a few months old, and you haven't been apart a moment since then. She's your soulmate. Losing her would be like losing yourself.
But your mother wouldn’t be so desperate as to attack the Dragonpit and kill the power of your house, they’re sacred, powerful, and majestic. Better than any army of men…
“I wish we had more family to ride dragons,” you express what springs to mind.
“What do you mean?” Aemond quickly follows up on your comment.
“Just that,” you counter with growing excitement as this idea keeps unfurling. “If we had more family we could trust, they could ride the other dragons that reside at Dragonstone. All who had riders in the past.”
Aemond gives you all his attention as his interest is completely stolen by what you’re trying to get at.
“There’s Vermithor,” you list the dragons that live in Dragonstone, on your fingers. “Silverwing, and…my father's dragon, Seasmoke.”
Thoughts turn behind Aemond’s eye before it all seems to come to a halt as he comes up with a conclusion. “We don’t need the other dragons, we have Vhagar.”
You scoff and get closer to him to argue for a sole worry, his safety. “Yes, but Vhagar and Sunfyre alone won’t win against my mother's dragons. They have 5 to your two, or three if you count me,” you add.
“There’s Tessarion,” he brings up the forgotten son, making you quickly brush him off.
“Still not enough, he’s young—Do you want to know what Daemon wanted to do when he found out Aegon was crowned?” You share with a bit of desperation, which is why you don’t let him answer. “He wanted to attack King’s Landing with all the dragons. Tell me if Vhagar would’ve survived that?”
Aemond looks ahead and answers with silence because he knows you’re right. He doesn’t want to admit that though, so instead he deflects with a question that he’s been wondering about since the war started. “Would you have attacked me with them?”
There’s nothing to think about, you know this answer as clear as day. “No,” you admit confidently. “I wasn’t mad at you then. I told you…I missed you.”
Aemond’s guard falls, and his eye falls on Aerion before he looks back at you with his eye reflecting the sun's beams peeking over the roof.
“You know,” you finally have a chance to admit something you haven’t talked about, and something he hasn’t asked out of fear of what you’d say? Who knows.
“If I knew what Daemon wanted to do I…don’t think I would have let him go through with it. Even if I thought I hated you at the time.” You swallow thickly and a breath escapes past his lips, making him collect himself to finally dig into this matter that has been running in his head.
“Where were you?” He asks.
You sigh and briefly steal a glance at the approaching entrance. “We were in the North,” you say quietly. “When we arrived at Dragonstone Daemon was not there anymore. I didn’t even know about his plan until the next day after I returned from Driftmark. And when I did find out,” you pause and sigh deeply before you meet his curious eye as he waits for more.
“Before Jacaerys could finish telling me what actually happened I was struck with fear…my world went dark when I thought you were killed,” you admit and feel yourself grow flustered as he keeps his eye on you. “And then when Jacaerys finished telling me the news I was horrified. You believe me right? I would never have let Daemon kill Jaehaerys.”
Panicked tears well in your eyes and he quickly assures you.
“I know.”
You nod in comprehension and breathe out that slight panic that just rattled you. “Anyway,” you continue with what you started with. “I couldn’t fathom you being killed, so it’s lucky that you were gone,” you feign a laugh. “I mean I’m not glad where you were, but it saved you so.”
Aemond comes to a stop, and you climb to the top before you stop and face him with a quizzical brow.
“I was not at the brothel because I sought lust,” he says again to get it through your mind and heart, but this time he adds something else that makes your heart skip a beat. “I did not think you would return home, I needed to talk to someone.”
A smile slowly spreads on your lips and you climb down to be in front of him before you assure him of one thing. “We would have found our way to each other eventually. I believe that. We’re one heart, one soul, one flesh. We literally drank each other's blood.”
He scoffs softly and you grin, making bliss glimmer in his eye and pull a soft smile to his own lips before he reaches over to cup your cheek and gently stroke your flesh.
You swoon at the touch and can’t help but reach over to grab his hand and hold his warmth.
There’s so much both of you can say on the aspect, you can reminisce about the past when getting married was a prospect that excited you both, and that you wanted more than anything. You could admit that fear is something you don’t feel when he’s close, but it is something he does feel because of the love he harbors for you. Yet neither of you says anything.
Your love is shared through the windows of your soul, right there on top of the steps, under the soft morning sky, with your son as a witness. Actually, he’s the one who interrupts the moment when he notices you just a hair's breadth away by reaching for your cheek with his little hand to try and grab you the same way Aemond was grabbing you.
When Aemond and you notice, you both share a laugh.
“<Beautiful, huh?>” Aemond directs at Aerion with a proud smile, making you giggle before you fall by Aemond’s side and hook your arm around his.
“Now,” you move this moment along by making him continue forward, and by moving on with this conversation. “Will you tell me why we’re here with our son?”
The corner of his lips tug up and he looks at you with a mischievous look that intrigues you.
“Spill,” you encourage him.
“Shrykos, the dragon egg chosen for Jaehaerys hatched the other day,” Aemond reveals, making your lips part with surprise—“I wanted to bring Aerion in hopes they will bond.”
You blink in surprise, but that quickly transforms into nothing but worry that knits your eyebrows and pushes you to share your concern. “But won’t Aegon be mad that you’re trying to bond Aerion to Shrykos?”
Aemond scoffs. “Why should he?” He retorts as walks you inside the dimmed arena. “Shrykos is free to claim now. It doesn’t belong to him.”
Is that what he said about Vhagar too?
“Hm, I suppose you’re right, but Aerion is still a babe,” you express more building-up worry. “He can’t defend himself if it doesn’t work.”
“I will have my blade ready,” Aemond makes sure to quickly assure you, but nothing he says actually gets rid of that feeling weighing down on you. Especially not when you reach the hall where the hatchlings and eggs are kept. It starts to feel like you’re lacking fresh air to breathe.
If anything happens to Aerion you’ll go mad.
“Aemond,” you try to express your worry, but he turns to assure you again.
“It will be fine, the keepers are here, and I have my hand on my pommel. I won’t let anything happen to our son.”
You hold his gaze to take more of that reassurance you need before you approach the stone table where Aemond sits Aerion, and where they have Shrykos’ carrier.
“<Since the one trying to bond is a babe, there won’t be commands, we will have to trust they communicate from within, the way you also communicate with your dragons.>” One of the keepers explains, making you clench your fists before you press your hands on the table to be ready to snatch Aerion if it all goes wrong.
“<Ready?>” The second keeper asks and looks between Aemond and you, making you and Aemond share a short speechless look before he answers with a nod.
The keeper then unties the crate's latch and lets a small swamp-green hatchling slowly crawl out of the darkness of her crate.
At first, it seems too timid to fully leave its crate, it stands there and tilts its little green head while her orange eyes focus on Aerion directly ahead of him.
Aemond and you share a curious look that's also mixed with worry that steals more of your breaths, and triggers your heart to race; causing the blood in your veins to pump rapidly, whilst also making your hands tremble.
Aemond notices your fear taking over, he senses it too because he feels concerned too, so he reaches over and wraps his hand around yours, letting a deep breath escape through your nose, and making your racing heart find some ease.
Yet not enough, it still thumps as you watch the hatchling completely leave her crate with her eyes locked on Aerion. All the while your babe glances over at you with no idea what’s going on; he doesn’t seem to be scared, he just steals a glimpse at Aemond and you before he returns his attention to the dragon and tries to reach for it.
Shrykos seems curious by Aerion’s movements so she crawls forward without that initial timidness that held her back before. She comes to a stop in front of Aerion and tilts her head to the side to look at him.
Aemond lets your hand go and uses both hands to hold his blade's handle and pull half of it out of his sheath. You lift your hands off the table and leave them out to be ready.
Aerion coos and leans forward to try and get a hold of the dragon, seeming to attract Shrykos to Aerion’s legs. That's when the babe finally brushes his little fingers over the dragon's head and smiles.
Shrykos blinks and her pupils seem to dilate before she coos back and suddenly climbs on Aerion to wrap itself around his shoulders and nuzzle her head against his cheek, making Aerion squeal.
You gasp and turn to look at Aemond at the same time he turns to look at you. Nothing is shared at first, but when you grasp that Aerion bonded with Shrykos you both share a proud smile.
“<It's done,” one of the keepers confirms what you concluded. “They are now bonded.>”
All the tension escapes you and you can’t help but grin and hug Aemond’s arm before he reaches over and takes Aerion in his arms with a proud grin on his long face.
“Good job, my boy,” you coo at Aerion as you stroke his cheek, but the boy is too focused on his dragon to pay any attention to you.
“Now no one will look down on you, my boy,” Aemond whispers to Aerion before he presses a kiss on the side of his head.
Your gaze drifts to look at Aemond as you take in what he said, as you detect the hurt in his voice brought by his childhood trauma when he was dragonless and picked on for that reason alone.
“We would never have let that happen if this hadn’t worked,” you tell Aerion whilst you also reassure Aemond. “And if they tried I would have protected you like I protected your father.”
Aemond hums and leans over to press a kiss on the top of your head.
“What time is the council meeting?” You ask him as you grab his arm.
“Not until noon,” he says. “Why?”
You offer him a mischievous smile and even if you know that he takes his responsibilities seriously and that the war outside this city's gates brings a tension within the Red Keep that takes a grip around everyone's throats, what’s wrong with a little escape? What’s wrong with getting carried away in the joy and pride that is brought by Aerion bonding with a dragon?
You aren’t making him abandon his responsibilities, you’re just asking for a little escape. And surprisingly he accepts your proposal and lets you take Astraea out so you both can mount your dragons and take them to the skies with Shrykos mounted on Aemond’s shoulder since her wings are still delicate to fly long distances, and she wants to be close to Aerion, who is strapped to Aemond’s chest.
It’s true, perhaps being on dragonback out of enjoyment is insensitive, tragedy has struck the kingdoms and you are royalty. Perhaps it’s also reckless considering the blockade that doesn’t stand too far away, and maybe it’s also a bit irresponsible. There are other moments and places to take time for yourselves where there aren’t millions of desperate souls watching, but neither Aemond nor you care. What other people might think doesn’t cross your mind.
All that exists is each other upon the skies; feeling the cold sea water splash over your face as Astraea grazes the tip of her wing in the water as she flies within Vhagar’s shadow. After a moment she straightens out and flaps her wings to fly forward. When she's past Vhagar, Astraea tilts up before she spins upward to reach Vhagar’s level and cut her off.
You chuckle and it's soon carried away by the rushing breeze, but your beaming smile is something that can’t be blown away, just like the bliss that completely fills your heart. It’s actually a contagious thing, your bliss. It’s a wonder that heightens Aemond’s own happiness the moment you beam at him over your shoulder.
Now he isn’t as expressive as you, that’s something that’s always been true. You have always been the one that shines the most and it’s something that never bugged him, not then and not now. He does get bothered when other people stare too long in awe at you, but that’s only because they might try taking you away from him, that’s it. He’d never try and diminish your light, and he’s glad it hasn’t snuffed out after what he did.
He fears that this war will diminish you, but even then that wouldn’t matter, he’d still look at you with the same admiration. He’d just have to work to revive that divine light; even if his presence alone is a spark of life itself. As long as you have him close, as long as he’s alive, that luminous light that he sees but you don’t, will never die.
Doesn’t he know that he’s like the moon and stars that you cherish with your heart? He’s cool like the moon in the night sky. And like the moon and the stars, it’s impossible not to admire and love him when he’s not looking or even when his attention is focused on you, like now. He looks at you with that cool blue eye that glimmers under the sun's kiss, and you just get lost on his face not tense with trying to look intimidating; he's smiling softly without stress, his long hair is flowing back, and he’s nothing but playful in this stolen moment as you fly next to each other in understanding that whoever lands on the empty patch of land first is the winner.
However, the winner is an easy guess. It’s you and Astraea. He may have cheated by taking a shortcut, but Astraea is faster since she isn’t as old or gigantic.
Your dragon actually ends up swooping around Vhagar and Aemond, and neither of you loses eye contact, causing a tense need for each other to burn hot and only escalate when you’re on the ground with your back pressed against his chest, his lips brushing over your ear, his breaths unfurling over the goosebumps on your skin, and his hand over yours as he shows you how to practice a certain action.
“Okay, I got it. Let me do it,” you whisper and slide your feet back to your usual fighting stance; something which makes him push your feet back to the way he’s been teaching you.
“Why do you keep standing like that?” He queries.
You glance down at your stance and realize that it’s the way Cregan stands with his sword.
“When you watch different fights you pick up on different things,” you throw out as an excuse which is actually kind of true. There’s been so many others you have taken notes on so you have grasped different techniques.
“I can still kick your ass,” you tease and he huffs softly, so you show off by swiftly managing to push him back with your elbow. You then swiftly spin around and flip the sword in your hand to point the tip to his throat. In the exact same way, you saw him do it once.
“Your own move on you, my love,” you taunt with a wink.
Aemond’s eye falls on the sword before he meets your gaze and can’t help but smirk.
“You caught me off guard,” he points out, making you snort and nod.
“That’s the trick to winning isn’t it?” You tease him and start to lower the sword, leaving him the opportunity to lunge forward and capture your wrist to twist you around and yank you against him with your back pressed against his chest again.
“No fair,” you complain in a whisper as he slides his hand down to cup your hand and press it gently so you can let his sword go and be left unarmed.
“That was not right,” you add and let out a punctured breath as he drags his other hand around your torso, letting his fingers brush over the flesh your gown leaves exposed.
“I really like this gown,” he whispers against the shell of your ear and feels his way all over your body covered by the sea-green gown you wear, making you shiver and draw in the same deep breath he stole.
“You’re distracting me,” you don’t actually mean a word you say, you want him to keep touching you with those firm yet gentle touches that light your skin on fire.
“A warrior doesn’t get distracted,” he rebuttals.
You laugh breathlessly and tilt your head to the side to let his lips touch your cheek because you’re starting to ache for his mouth to be on yours, but don’t want to move away from his touch.
“This is not fair,” you keep saying and he lowers his head to press his nose against your neck and take in a deep breath of your sweet scent.
“I hate when you do that,” you murmur without actual meaning and bring one hand down to wrap it around the hand he has around you and slide it down to your hips, causing him to grip onto you with a mischievous grin.
“Aemond,” you coo out and turn your head, making your lips touch and driving you to insanity. You can’t hold back anymore, you turn around to meet his hungry eyes before you glance at his inviting lips and indulge your desire for a heated moment. You don't linger too long, you pull back rather quickly, leaving a string of saliva that connects you both until he leans in and presses a gentle peck on your lips.
“You remember what I have to do today,” he brings up.
You sigh and nod stiffly. “Yes,” you say back and pull back to meet his gaze. “I was hoping I could leave Astraea out to just protect the city while you and Vhagar are gone. I will feel better knowing she’s out on the ready.”
Aemond holds your gaze and you plead speechlessly and hope desperately.
“In truth, I would feel better if she was out too,” he says, letting you let out a relieved sigh. “I will tell Aegon, but leave her out regardless.”
Now you can send your mother her warning without risking you or anyone else.
No one will keep track of Astraea's whereabouts, and if they ask where she is you will say she’s hunting for her meal. She likes to eat fish after all.
“Thank you,” you tell him with a sweet smile.
He hums and presses a kiss on your cheek before you part away, and both speechlessly decide that you should head back to the Red Keep now.
Nevertheless, when you go to Aerion you find him asleep with his arm around Shrykos neck as she too is lost in deep slumber.
“Oh my,” you muse and touch your heart as it completely melts inside you at such a precious sight. “Look, Aemond.”
Said man sheaths his sword that was left on the ground and then walks to you. When he’s behind you also watching what you’re watching, you look back at him with a wobbly smile and happy tears in your eyes, catching him smile in awe and pride because now he doesn’t have to worry about his son getting bullied the same way he was because he didn’t have a dragon.
——
*LATER*
It’s never hard being quiet when you’re sneaking through the secret tunnels. You always make sure to take your shoes off so the heels don’t reveal your presence, while any jewelry that dangles and makes noise is tucked away. That’s easy to control, but natural occurrences like coughing or sneezing are always an aspect that terrifies you.
You'd be caught right away and there would be no excuse that could save you from any consequences.
It’s not to say you feel any urge to cough or sneeze, but it crosses your mind as you approach the window and listen to the council meeting.
“Fuck you,” is the first thing you hear Aegon spat. Graceful. “I told you we should’ve sent our dragons. And now look what’s happened. Daemon, of all people, has taken Harrenhal.”
Does he mean that in a good or bad way? Because if it’s bad then maybe he needs to really reveulate his uncle's capabilities. Not to toot Daemon's horn, but he did win the battle at the Stepstones, he knows more about war than Aegon does. It should not be surprising that Daemon took Harrenhal. He should be surprised that he has no army to defend his stance there.
“I give you a job, and now you just sit there,” Aegon’s voice rises with his frustration. “It's your fucking castle!”
“Well, that castle is more crippled than I am, Your Grace,” you hear Lord Larys defend himself, making Aegon scoff— “It’s like to drive Daemon to madness as he attempts to make use of it. It is beyond his faculties. It’s also penniless,” he adds to try and reassure Aegon. “As I happily control all of its gold. So, as Harrenhal saps Daemon’s resolve, the false Queen remains trapped on her Island and Ser Criston continues felling castles in the Crownlands.”
“Wh—” Aegon stammers whilst you hear his feet stomp about the room. “I need to be informed of these things if I’m to make informed rulings. I will not be made to look a fool in front of my allies and enemies.”
“Harrenhal must wait,” Aemond interjects, causing a breath to escape past your lips. “Ser Criston is marching on Rook’s Rest.”
So he’s finally telling them.
“Rook’s Rest—a pathetic prize,” Aegon stammers. “I gave no such command—”
“The castle is small,” Aemond cuts Aegon off as you hear a chair creak before you recognize your husband's footsteps strike the floor. “Weakly defended and Lord Staunton sits on Rhaenyra’s council. After Cole smashes it, we’ll have Dragonstone effectively cut off by land. This war will not be won with dragons alone but with dragons flying behind armies of men.”
And that is why Aemond and Ser Criston have been secretly planning because Aemond is obviously the most strategic. Sure, his plans don’t favor your family, but you can still be proud that you married someone smart right?
“No! Have him turn about,” Aegon wastes his breath. “I want Harrenhal back.”
Aemond’s footsteps once again hit the ground and you imagine he’s returning to his seat while he responds. “Cole is already preparing his attack.”
Which is why after Aemond leaves you have to send word to your mother.
“Uh, how-how do you know this?” Aegon demands to know in a more perplexed way than upset.
“He sent word to me,” Aemond reveals half the truth as you hear him sit back down.
“To you?” Aegon asks, and you can’t help but detect a bit of hurt. “The two of you have been…plotting…without my authority?”
A second of silence passes before you hear Aemond fill the hall in Valyrian. “<You had more pressing matters to attend to. Such as holding court, choosing your sobriquet, and naming imbecilic lickspittles to our Kingsguard.>”
You can’t help but smirk at Aemond’s counter, knowing damn well that Aegon is only understanding part of that.
“Mm,” Aemond hums before he goes on as if trying to make Aegon look a fool. “<Do you have a wiser strategy, my King?>”
Oh, that rolls off his tongue so smoothly that it makes you tingle.
<If so, you should voice it to your council. We all wait your answer,>” Aemond finishes saying, making that smirk on your own face deepen, while a pride grows within you and grows exponentially as Aegon takes a moment to answer.
“<I can have to…” he responds in High Valyrian hesitantly. “Make a…war?>”
You cover your mouth to stifle your laugh.
Please! His own daughter probably knows more Valyrian than he does!
What a joke.
“Mm,” Aemond hums back, causing people around the table to clear their throats in response to Aegon’s failed attempt.
“Harrenhal is a useful morass,” Aemond continues in the common tongue. “It will keep Daemon well-occupied while we strengthen our host and weaken Rhaenyra’s support on the mainland. We will deal with it in the Riverlands in time. But right now. Rook’s Rest is an easy target and a worthy effort. Don't you agree, my King?”
You lean your ear towards the window and wait for him to agree. What else can he say? He had no other plan up his sleeve that could actually rebuttal Aemond’s plan, so all he can do is agree to that plan, and Aemond’s plan to go with Vhagar too.
Maybe this will teach him to be more strategic so he doesn’t get made a fool again, which is a bit pitiful, you do admit. If he were anyone else you would feel bad that his brother keeps upstaging him and planning behind his back, but he’s Aegon. You don’t feel pity or remorse, especially not after the way he treated Aemond not long ago in that brothel. Just like your husband, you relish in his torment.
If only you could witness more, yet Aemond is left satisfied and you depart from the shadows to return to your chambers before the meeting is done and Aemond accidentally discovers you.
And leaving at the time you did ends up being a lucky choice because the moment you sit down with your book, and pretend that's what you were doing, Aemond walks in.
“My love,” he greets and marches over to grab his sword right away before he finds his way to you on the ground keeping Aerion company.
“How was it?” You pretend to be clueless.
“As you would expect,” Aemond shares and crouches down to give Aerion some attention as the boy spends time on his tummy. “Aegon is fruitless when it comes to war, he’s bloodthirsty, thinking boldness is the better option. He’ll have all our dragons killed if we act out his plans.”
You close the book and tilt your head up to look at him. “Which is why it’s a good thing you sit at his table. How did he take the news?”
Aemond scoffs and a sly smirk plays on his lips. “What do you think?”
You sigh and guess. “Whiny and offended.”
Aemond nods before he snickers. “He tried speaking Valyrian, but he butchered it. He couldn’t even form a sentence.”
You laugh softly, but not as much as you would want knowing the actual context. Then again not like it matters because your amusement is quickly killed because you know you can’t escape the inevitable.
“Will you stay for dinner at least?” You try to make him linger behind.
Aemond lifts his eye off Aerion and catches the gloss in your eye that accompanies your speechless pleas, so he looks back at his son and gives you his answer. “I have indulged in my pleasures today. Rhaenyra might have already heard about our approach and may attack soon, I cannot risk leaving Cole defenseless.”
Your eyes flicker down and you sigh deeply with worry, pulling Aemond to his feet, and attaining his gaze that attracts you to look up and meet his gaze before you listen to your impulse and follow him up.
“I will return,” he reassures the worry creasing a frown on your features. “Sooner than you think.”
You close the empty space left between you and gently place your hands on his chest before you slowly trail them up his shoulders and bring them to a stop on his jaw, noting his armorless body left vulnerable to any deadly attack.
“I wish you would armor,” you express your concern.
Aemond’s gaze hardens and he grabs your elbow to remark. “Do you doubt me? Why is it that you never seem to trust my capabilities? I am met with doubt every time.”
Your eyebrows pinch together and your eyes harden as you’re confused by this outburst, but just as you want to argue, your anger fades when you realize that he doesn’t really understand where your doubt is coming from. So you sigh softly and look at him with a softening gaze that fills with admiration, and brings a teasing smile to your face.
“No matter how many times I tell you, you still don’t understand,” you quip and bring your hand down to smack his shoulder. “You may be smart with war plans, but there is something you do not seem to understand.” You scoff and your smile widens as your eyes perk up with bliss. “I do not doubt your skill Aemond, not on dragonback and not with a sword, I worry. It’s concern that I share because I love you.”
Aemond holds your gaze for a moment before he looks down as he loses that hardened demeanor brought by self-defense, and instead grows flustered.
“I do not wish to have your corpse returned to me,” you continue softly and try to find his eyes. “Vhagar may be the biggest dragon, she may have more battle experience than any other dragon, but she nor you are invincible. It takes one arrow, Aemond, raging fire, or a lucky bite from the other dragon's jaw and I am left a widow. Do you understand that?” You push your love into his heart, making him express nothing but love and awe in return as he finally lets you find his gaze.
“I just would feel more comforted if I knew something protected your face and your body. That’s all.” You say and slide your hand up to cup his cheek.
This time Aemond moves his hand up to meet yours so you can keep it pressed against his cheek and he can take in all the comfort you offer, while also making sure to stroke your knuckles with his thumb.
“I will be careful,” he assures you. “I won’t fall today. Nor tomorrow for that matter.”
You scoff in amusement and pull his face closer to you. “I need you to come back,” you express what torments your heart. “To me. I…can’t do this without you.”
Aemond’s breath catches and after a second he drags his hand up your arm while also raising the other one to grab your face with both and reassure you sweetly. “I will be well protected with Vhagar, I will return. I will be okay and I do not need armor to assure me of that. I will come back.”
Your breath trembles and you nod softly before you lean in and share your love with a deep kiss you linger in to keep him with you a bit longer, while also hoping that a deep kiss will convince him to stay. Yet he begins to part away.
But before your lips can be greeted with a cold abandonment he takes you in for a second kiss that’s shorter, but surpasses the passion that already fueled your first kiss.
Unfortunately, there’s no third indulgence, you do stay close and press your forehead against his to linger in each other's presence for a moment longer. Not letting anything penetrate this moment in time where all that exists is each other, your intertwined hearts, and your interconnected souls.
“I love you,” you break the silence after a while and caress his cheeks.
Aemond presses a kiss on the heel of your hand and whispers back. “I love you too. Come see me off?”
You scoff at the ridiculousness of his question. “Of course.”
After getting the last things he needs, and after bidding goodbye to Aerion, you walk with him all the way to the last gate, but no further because he doesn’t want you returning to the Red Keep alone.
“Astraea is allowed to roam the skies as freely as she wants while Vhagar and I are gone,” Aemond lets you know and unknowingly connects the missing link you had to help your mother. “If you mount her, don't approach the blockade or do anything reckless.”
“Reckless?” You feign innocence and touch your chest. “Me? Never.”
His lips tug to a smile before he goes serious and presses that. “I am being serious.”
You offer him an assuring nod and whisper. “I know. I will stay out of trouble.”
He hums and before he can leave, you reach for your neck to take off your necklace that holds the sigil of both of your houses, Velaryon and Targaryen. “I do want this back, it’s my favorite,” you say and grab his hand to give him your pendant. “For luck.”
“Your favor?” He teases with a smug smile.
You hum timidly and watch him snatch your hand before all he has is your haunting touches, and slowly brings it up to his thin pink lips to press a gentle kiss on your knuckles, causing your heart to skip a beat and a giggle to escape past your lips.
“Everything will be fine,” he adds in his soft voice that works like a trance. It keeps you under its spell now, but you know later it will wear off and your concern will drown you again.
“<Be careful,>” you tell him one more time, but this time you pass him a confident look also oozing with pride.
Aemond steals one more touch from your warm cheeks before leaning in and pressing his forehead against yours to steal one last sweet moment before he steps back and stands tall to show off the intimidating persona he’s built over the years, but never scares you. You see his confidence and his determination, but he does not intimidate you.
“<Goodbye, my love.>” He bids.
You offer him a last smile and whisper back so only he can hear. “Goodbye.”
You wave at him and linger where he left you behind to watch him get further and further away until not even his long shiny silver-white hair is visible. Now when you're sure that he won’t walk back for something he forgot you turn to head back inside, but the moment you do face the Redkeep, you catch Aegon looking out one of the windows of a high tower.
His eyes are unmistakably on you, letting you know he saw your last goodbye with his brother.
Was it with envy? Annoyance? Anger?
You don’t know, you can’t see the expression that paints his features from where you stand. Besides, when your eyes meet he turns away and abandons the window, letting you head inside.
At first, you walk at a normal pace, but when you’re inside you hurry back to your room to write that warning to your mother in High Valyrian so there’s less of a risk of someone unwanted reading your note. Which is unlikely because Astraea will carry your letter, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
“<Ser Criston Cole is preparing his attack on Rook’s Rest. Vhagar and Aemond will be there too in hopes of catching one of your dragons by surprise, which means he will be leaving the city defenseless for today and tomorrow. I will write more soon.>
You don’t sign your name, nor do you address it to anyone out of caution. You keep the letter short even if you wish to write more. And before anyone can interrupt you, you rush off using the tunnels so no one can stop you, or see you and report your comings and goings to anyone who shouldn’t know.
Once you make it out to the cove behind the castle, your dragon is already waiting for you.
“<Good girl,>” you praise her and caress her snout. “<Now go to Dragonstone and deliver this message. Be careful.>”
Astraea brings her head down to let you attach the note to one of her long horns.
“<Now go,>”, you tell her and press your forehead against her before you step away and watch her fly off to Dragonstone, wishing that there wasn’t a raging war happening so you could go too without worry or fear.
——
*THE NEXT DAY*
“The powerful are powerless to someone aren’t they?” Helaena comments and leaves you pondering about the actual significance behind such a simple comment.
“Yes,” you muse and prop your elbows on the stone railing to rest your chin on your hands and admire the crimson blood that stands out like shining rubies on Astraea’s purple feet as her large claws puncture her prey while she drags their lifeless silver body with her.
You like to think that your family got your message, you went to see Astraea a few hours after she returned yesterday and neither the letter nor the ribbon was attached to her horn anymore. Do they have to send anything in return? No, but maybe they could send back a different colored ribbon or something small like a shell in your satchels hanging on her saddle. You looked and looked but it was all empty, so you were left hoping the letter did not fall in the water when she flew there.
You’ll have to let them know to send you some discreet message in return next time to let you know that they got your letter.
“Even the King's answer to someone…” you add to your forming thought. “They may be powerful, but that power can easily be taken by anyone really. They just need the right motivation.”
Helaena hums and her eyes then slide to watch you watching your dragon.
“How are you feeling Helaena?” You ask and turn your attention to her. “I haven’t asked today.”
“About?” She probes.
You push yourself up and carefully bring up what worries you about her. “Your boy. This war. You being Queen.”
Her chest raises high and when it goes back down she looks out at the horizon. “Well…being Queen comes with more attention, I can feel them all looking at me, waiting for me to do something. But I don’t want to. I don’t want them looking at me.”
“Hold your head up high,” you try to advise her sweetly. “Paint on a facade and they won’t really see you. Just worry about caring for your daughter, that’s all that matters.”
Helaena blinks and her eyes fall. You study her face closely to watch for any change in emotions, but she’s harder to read than her brothers, so you wait for her to give you her response.
“Alright.”
You offer her a kind smile and look back at the horizon past the window, coming out surprised when she continues to share what troubles her soul.
“And Jaehaerys,” she pauses and your eyes return to her. “My sadness isn’t as grand anymore. I miss him, but he’s not suffering anymore.”
You swallow back and can’t help but frown with pity and sorrow that you don’t hide so she knows it’s okay to be sad, that if she wants you can be sad with her.
Yet she puts on a brave face so all you can offer her is a faint smile.
“Daeron sent me a letter,” she shares with glee. “And he sent me a butterfly with it. It was dead of course, but I added it to my collection because I did not have it yet.”
“That’s nice of him. I would like to see it after we see the maester that is.”
She nods. “Of course.”
Silence follows but she doesn’t let it last. “Are you scared?” She asks back which is a general question, but you answer with what plagues you the most.
“Yes…I have a lot to lose,” you murmur and step back, making her wait for you to start walking forward to be able to follow at your side.
“But I know I must put my trust in them,” you add and fiddle with a starfish that decorates the golden chain around your waist. “They are strong in their way. I just…don’t want to lose anyone anymore. I don’t want to…end up alone.” Your voice breaks without warning.
“But,” Helaena’s parting lips echo down the lonely hall. “You won’t end alone.”
The corner of your lips form a quick smile and you can’t help but show it off to her. “I will have you that’s true—”
“No,” she cuts you off, and her eyebrows furrow as she seems to grow impatient. “But you won’t end up alone.”
Your smile disappears, and your anguish leaves with it, letting conflict push your eyebrows together, and part your lips as a small gasp leaves your mouth.
Helaena watches you and she can’t seem to get a hint of what you’re feeling, but her impatience to be heard gets lost.
“No?” You ask for reassurance even if a part of you warns you not to believe her simply out of self-protection, while the other part of you completely trusts what she just said.
“You,” she pauses and comes to a slow stop, making you stop, and bringing Ser Jason and her guards to a stop behind you. “You believe me?” She asks softly as she doesn’t see that same pitiful smile everyone offers her when she shares something ominous she needs them to understand.
“I believe you,” you throw all your trust in her and offer her a sweet smile.
Helaena’s gaze lingers on you as her thoughts swirl behind her eyes. “Okay,” she breathes out. “Thank you.”
You hum softly and continue down your path back to your chambers. “Why shouldn’t I? We are part of a special family, my favorite ancestor is Daenys the Dreamer, she’s the one who saved our house thanks to what she dreamt. And even still we follow the rule of men when it’s women who have saved us from doom.” You grumble and roll your eyes.
“Well, men—”
“No,” you cut her off and scold her. “Don't well men me. Women are just as capable as men. In ruling and combat if given the chance. And we are not afraid of blood…well some of us at least, because we bleed all the time. Do you see what I’m trying to get at?”
She shrugs lazily. “I suppose.”
You loll your head to the other side and click your tongue in disappointment.
“Anyway,” you drag out and clasp your hands together. “Sunfyre and Astraea were nuzzled against each other yesterday when I went to take her out. Isn’t that so cute?” You change the subject to a more lighthearted matter that doesn’t really catch her attention, but she still shares a comment nonetheless.
“I’m sure Astraea is happy to be out.”
You smile and nod. “Delighted. She has been spoiled beyond belief with her freedom, which makes it hard for both her and me when it comes to putting her in chains here.”
“I’m sure she knows it’s not because of ill intent,” she tries to comfort you.
You huff. “Yes, she knows that. She just…prefers her freedom.”
Before you know it you reach your chambers and Maester Orwyle is already inside preparing what he needs for your examination.
“Your Grace,” he greets Helaena first before he greets you. “Princess.”
You offer him a faint smile and a warm greeting. “Hello Maester, I hope you haven’t been waiting long. We were taking a stroll after breaking fast.”
He shakes his head and responds. “No, I got here a moment ago myself. Now will you tell me what you have been feeling so I can conclude to the right results.”
You sigh and watch Helaena take a seat on one of your couches before you let your eyes wander ahead as you tap into your memories. “Well, it has been a month since I last bled. I…started feeling more exhausted than usual a couple of weeks after the war started. I have been craving foods more than usual, and…well I have had more frequent headaches as well as stomach aches.”
The maester hums and he studies you before his gaze goes to Vanessa. “How has she eaten?”
Oh because he couldn’t ask you?!
“Not well, but it also varies, some days she tends to eat like normal, while on other days she hardly touches her food,” she happily obliges with sharing…well a lot of what you would have not shared.
“Ok, Princess, if I may ask you to change into a lighter gown so I can do your examination.” He orders while you pass Vanessa an annoyed glare she doesn’t fret to brush off as she pushes you behind a divider to help you undress.
“You did not have to share all of it. I eat,” you whisper sharply, and she turns you around harshly to untie the corset, while you pull the halter strap over your head.
“Define what eating is to you,” she rebuttals and you try to sass her.
“Eating is when you—”
“Prince Aemond would have my head if I did not reveal the truth to the maester. He already pressed me to feed you more,” she cuts you off and shares what you didn’t know.
“He shouldn’t have,” you mutter as you purse your lips together.
Vanessa sighs. “He's just worried…in his own way, that's all. And why shouldn’t he be? You haven’t told him.”
A perplexed look flickers on your face before all that paints your face is anguish. “I just…need to be sure first. I mean I need to hear it from a maester.”
“I understand,” her voice eases off the frustration. “Ok, it’s done.”
You let the gown fall to your feet before you step away from it and slip on a lighter gown to rejoin the maester out in your room.
“It does seem that you have lost weight,” The maester points out now that he takes a second look at you in a less busy gown. “But that may be grief as well. I’m certain it has not been easy.”
You scoff and gently shake your head as you make yourself to your bed, and he follows suit with gadgets that he uses inside you…
“Okay just try and hold still. We have done this before so you remember the procedure, right?”
You gulp and offer him a breathless response that gives him the okay to proceed and examine you carefully so as to not miss something, or diagnose you with the opposite of what you may have.
Like he said you have gone through this before, but it still is quite uncomfortable. You get lost on the ceiling above you and wait for him to stop before you move so he can press your belly with his fingers, and also feel your breasts to check if they are tender.
Once his quiet examination is done he steps back from your bed and stands formally before he finally addresses your anticipation. “Congratulations Princess, you are indeed with child.”
It’s meant to be a happy moment, but you’re tormented by anguish as the truth is finally proven and you can no longer hope that it's all some silly mind game played by all your troubled emotions.
Now…the possibility of your passionate night with Cregan resulting in a joyous bundle is more real. Then again you hide behind the hope that one night did not lead to a child. You convince yourself that Aemond is the father because it is true, your fear is just wicked and playing with you.
“Twins?” You ask and he blinks with surprise before he nods hesitantly as if surprised that you know what isn’t meant to be obvious yet.
“Yes…there are two babes. Two different placentas.”
“I told you,” Helaena blurts over the couch before she returns her attention to the books you have spread all over the couches since Aemond has his map on the small table.
“But,” he adds and your heart drops. “I would like to keep a closer eye on you. It seems one babe is smaller than the other.”
You drag yourself to the edge of the bed and press him for more. “Wh-what does that mean? Will they be okay?”
Maester Orwyle lets out a deep breath before he makes your heart hurt with his honesty. “I cannot say for certain, that’s why it’s important for you to eat princess. If you are not healthy and strong the babes will not be. This time you will have to eat for three which will take that much more energy.”
“I understand,” you whisper your comprehension.
“Like I said I will come and check on you more often. I want to make sure that the babes are growing as they should.”
You nod and he bows his head before he offers you one more congratulations and then turns to talk to Vanessa about teas and different foods that you should and shouldn’t eat. And before he left he did not forget to tell you to share your news with Aemond, as if he didn’t already plan to do it himself because apparently you are incapable of controlling your own life.
Regardless, now you know. Now there’s no use hoping you’re simply overthinking and that Helaena’s head is too lost in the clouds, she was right, and you are with child. You are going to have twins with Aemond.
Okay…maybe that prospect does excite you more than you thought. You might have your own Daenys soon, and maybe another girl or more boys!
Whatever they may turn out to be your worry turns to overwhelming bliss you can hardly contain. If only Aemond was here to tell him, but he’s too far and you would be too reckless to fly to him just to share the news.
You have half the mind to go, but that would be oh-so stupid. You’ll have to wait and maybe think of baby names?
Or embroider a nice cover? You are terrible at sewing, but you have the urge to.
Maybe you’ll sing to them and Aerion! You would sing to Aerion when he was in your belly all the time and he would kick like crazy when he got older because of it.
So yes! That’s what you’ll do! They may be too small now to hear, but you need to do something that will release your excitement. Besides you can take advantage and learn more of the songs and ballads that are in the book Aemond gave you.
They’re all so beautiful and full of rich stories. And as sad as some are, knowing that these songs were sung by people in Valyria does delight you as well as make you feel honored that you now get to know them, sing them, and cherish them. It makes it easy to get lost in the songs and have the day pass. Before you know it, noon has already crept in.
The sun is still high so the entire day didn’t pass under you. The only reason you do break your attention from your book is because a persistent knock raps on the door.
Is it Aemond?!
You beam at the possibility.
“Come!” You welcome the visitor as you throw the book on the couch and stand up to spin and face the door.
Nevertheless, who comes in isn’t your tall long-haired husband, it’s his brother, Aegon.
“Your Grace,” you mumble in confusion and look him up and down as you note that he looks smaller than usual in such historic armor that Aegon the Conqueror once wore.
“Niece,” he greets and flashes you a smile before he closes the door behind his guards.
“Aemond is not here,” you state the obvious even if the hairs on the back of your neck rise as they warn you that he’s not looking for your husband.
His heavy footsteps thud as he begins to make his way toward you with a mischievous glint in his eyes that deepens that smirk on his face.
“Yes, I know of my brother's comings and goings.” He says, causing fear to strike your heart. “But I am not here for him.”
You glance at his Kingsguard for help, but you should have known better, they look away, and at that very moment they let you know that you’re alone and defenseless against whatever antics creep into Aegon’s mind.
“Then why are you here? In armor.”
He shrugs. “I am going to battle. Obviously,” he chuckles and his smirk turns to a grin.
You see that he’s past the couches so you continue to back away until you’re behind a couch. “That seems rather reckless. You are King—”
“You can’t tell me what to do,” he spats and his grin falls back to a smirk that keeps that mischievous outward.
“Why are you here Aegon?” You ask again and he keeps making his way toward you, not caring that you’re obviously trying to keep your distance.
He huffs. “I’m here for your favor,” he finally reveals and you swallow thickly and run into a chair.
“I already gave it to Aemond,” you try to keep Aegon away. “And you have a wife. Ask for her favor.”
He lets out a sigh. “It's not the Queen's favor I desire,” he quickly brushes you off and hops over the living area to hurry over and trap you against the chair so you cannot keep running away.
“It’s yours,” he whispers and leans his face closer to you, letting his strong wine breath whaff all over you which causes you to try and slide away, but he throws his hand out to grab the chair and block your exit.
“Aemond—”
“Is not here,” he cuts you off again and uses his other hand to start reaching out for your arm, but you grab your golden waist belt to avoid his incoming touch.
“Aegon,” you hiss. “Leave.”
“After a kiss goodbye hm?”
You shake your head and rebuttals by throwing his hand around your arm, but he doesn't pull you anywhere, he just grabs your arm and makes you feel utterly powerless. You hold so much battle knowledge, you know how to make someone unhand you, you can sweep someone off their feet, and so much more, but at this very moment with his hand on your arm and his wine breath unfurling over your cheek, you can’t move a muscle.
“Aegon,” you try to call him off you again, but his hold loosens and the tip of his fingers travel to your hips.
“Stop,” you mutter with a quivering lip. “Please,” your voice trembles.
He spares you a glance before he tilts his face to the side to force you to kiss his cheek first.
You don’t want to, you want to push him away, to scream, but he won’t move and you can’t find the strength; it hides like a coward under Aegon’s presence. Thus you’re left with no choice, you pucker your lips and lean your face forward to press a light kiss on his cheek so it can make him leave faster, feeling disgust swirling what little you have in your stomach.
When you pull back you expect him to back away and leave you alone, but his hand presses against your hip and you feel the warmth of his hand start to travel up.
“Aegon stop it,” you sneer shakily.
Said man’s hungry eyes start to lower to steal a glance at your chest exposed by the v-neck your bodice was designed with.
“Aegon,” you call out desperately, making him find your gaze and smile.
“Wish me good luck,” he says in return.
You swallow back nervously and part your lips, but before you can utter a word the doors get thrown open, pulling your eyes to the welcoming visitor, and seeing Ser Jason with his sword halfway out of his sheath, and his face hardened.
“Ser,” you call out with relief.
Aegon looks over his shoulder and his smile dies.
“Your Grace,” Ser Jason greets coldly without letting his sword go but making Aegon’s kingsguard grab their own swords to prepare for an attack.
“Just in need of my niece's favor,” Aegon is quick to throw out an excuse. “Ser.”
Aegon proceeds to snap his head back around to steal one more glimpse at you before he slides his hand off your body, letting you finally breathe when he backs away and gives you his back.
Even then, though, as he's leaving he makes sure to take his sweet time more so to taunt you that he has power over you now.
“Ser,” Aegon directs at Ser Jason with a taunting smirk that he makes sure is the last thing you see before he disappears down the corridor, knocking out any sort of confidence you could show off to Ser Jason as he remains there past your doors.
“Th-thank you,” you clear your throat and fight the urge to cry as you’re left defeated and feeling powerless. “Ser. For coming to my aid.”
Ser Jason finally lets his sword fall back in his sheath and his blue eyes soften to pity as he watches you fight back your tears.
He wants to ask if you’re okay, but he also knows that would be a stupid question considering he can see you shaking, and hears you heaving.
“Princess,” he whispers and you pull your eyes up to give him your attention through a teary gaze.
“I’m—I’m okay, Ser” you stammer and nod even if you feel violated.
Ser Jason whispers his comprehension, but rather than walking out and standing guard outside your doors, he steps further inside and comes to a stop shortly after to watch you with a certain conflict battling in his deep blue eyes, a conflict that you pick up on before you turn away and clutch onto the chair to try and calm yourself down after something you feared the most happened.
You tried so hard, but you were utterly useless. You couldn’t move a muscle, or find the right thing to say back. You were nothing at that moment but something else he can now order around.
You feel so stupid, so weak, and—
“Princess,” Ser Jason calls out and now you hear that he’s closer than before.
“Ser,” you breathe out and turn around, seeing at that moment that your eyes fall on him, that his eyes express his pity while also trying to offer you the comfort you need the most.
“You…you are not alone,” he says and you can’t help it, you break down and all you want is your mother or Cregan…
He was always there when you felt the most anguished without a fault.
But he can’t be here, nor can you go to your mother. And even Aemond is gone to feed his hunger for battle, leaving only your sworn protector.
“Okay,” you whisper with relief and he slowly starts moving toward you with his hand slowly rising off his side in an attempt to offer you a comforting touch.
Albeit before he can even get near, your eyes find Lord Larys limping toward your open doors, causing you to drop your head to hide your tears.
Not like it was a fruitful act, the Lord takes note of your anguish.
“Lord Larys,” you address his presence, making Ser Jason almost throw himself back as he backs away from you so the Lord doesn’t get the wrong idea.
“Princess,” the lord greets in return. “Forgive my intrusion. I was coming to pay you a visit and I came across an open door.”
You shake your head to dismiss his apology. “Do not worry about it, Lord. You are welcome.”
You glance up at him and catch an exchange of looks between Lord Larys and Ser Jason before your sworn protector walks out of the room in a hurry, leaving Lord Larys and you alone in the confinements of your chambers.
“Please take a seat,” you point to your table. “I would offer a seat in front of the fire, but I’m ashamed to say Aemond and I have a mess.”
Lord Larys shakes his head. “It’s quite alright,” he reassures you and limps toward the table to take a seat on a wooden chair.
You turn to walk towards the flagon of water and wine so he won’t see the tears that leave your eyes red.
“Water? Wine?” You offer as you wipe your cheeks and draw in a deep breath.
“No, I’m fine, thank you.”
You nod in comprehension and serve yourself some water before you turn and face the Lord in hopes he will reveal what brought him here.
“I hope you have found yourself well, a gaze stuck between two sides must be heavy on the heart,” he says.
You bring your gaze down to watch the water within the golden goblet. “I find myself quite well,” you lie with a smile you direct at the Lord. “It was difficult at first, but now…my conflict has been resolved, and the only weight I carry is the worry for my husband and son's safety.”
He hums and you notice him dig his hand in his pocket as he interjects. “As you should be, with Prince Daemon on a path of revenge, who knows what else he might do.”
Your gaze narrows to a glare for a brief second before you take a small sip and take a seat across from him.
“I have been meaning to thank you for telling me about Prince Aemond’s whereabouts when I was gone,” you address the matter and set your cup down, but keep your fingers around the neck of the goblet. “Telling the truth really helped us reconcile.”
The Lord brings a fisted hand up to hang over his cane while he offers you a faint smile. “I’m gladdened. It’s important that the realm sees the picture of unity among the royal family. Now more than ever.”
You scoff. “They need food. Not a glimpse at our marriage, they could care less about us whilst they’re starving,” you rebuttal bitterly and take a glance out the balcony.
“That’s easier said than done with the blockade cutting off any transport of food,” he adds, making you return your gaze to him.
“If only there could be something done about it,” you mumble bitterly and leave out the fact that the crown could spare food, or send a dragon to break that blockade.
“Maybe you can,” he suggests, piquing your interest. “You have Prince Aemond’s ear, and he has a seat upon the council. You could ask him to give an idea to the council.”
You tap the neck of the goblet as you think about what he just said. Which is honestly not a bad idea, but would they even agree to offer any help?
Doubtful.
You could bring it up nonetheless. Maybe.
“That is a great idea, I might do exactly that,” you don’t hesitate to give Lord Larys his props.
Lord Larys bows his head to offer you his thanks before he moves his fisted hand and pushes it over the table. “I did come to give you this…back.”
You slowly sit up straighter and press your hands on the table as you watch him put down a small brown wooden box on the table.
“It seems you lost it recently,” he pauses and pushes the box toward you with the tip of his finger, causing curiosity to tug the corner of your lips to a faint smile.
“…in the North.” He finishes and your hand freezes just as you’re reaching for the box.
At first, you were completely in the dark about what he was reeling up to, but now that he pulls the truth out of the murky waters, you start to realize what the box might hold, and the insinuation he might have as bait.
And alas, when you grab the box and bring it toward you to open it, you see exactly what you suspected; the sapphire ring you had lost in Castle Black. The ring Aemond had gifted you when you first returned from the North. The ring you dropped as you were kissing Cregan.
“It was brought to me from Winterfell,” Lord Larys adds with a certain change in his tone of voice. “It seems someone found it in the bed chambers of the Warden of the North.”
So the ring was given back to Cregan. That’s…nice.
“Any idea why the Lord would have such a meaningful ring in his chambers?” Lord Larys presses, and you start to hear it, the insinuation he does not directly say.
“I had lost it,” you try not to express your horror and close the box to hold Lord Larys' gaze without fear. “He obviously found it. Are you suggesting Lord Stark stole from me?”
Lord Larys scoffs in amusement and shakes his head. “No, I could not see Lord Stark doing something so below him. Albeit it seems his honor does dwindle when it comes to a much more valuable Gem of the Sea.”
The nonchalance you wore falls, but you don’t break. You are not stupid either, you know who Lord Larys is referencing when he brings “Gem of the Sea.”, but you do not let him bait you, nor do you find yourself powerless like when Aegon was here moments ago. What is Lord Larys?
He’s no King. No Warden, no knight, he only holds the title of Lord because his family has not tried to fight him for the title and lands, and the other part of his family is dead. He’s not fearsome, he’s a man with a club foot.
You will not cower behind a shadow that cannot even overshadow yours.
“Lord Larys,” you feign a laugh and open the box to pull the ring out. “Answer me this…do you take me for a fool?”
Lord Larys sputters and ends up saying nothing after he did not expect you to rebuttal as fearless as you did.
“I know what you are insinuating,” you continue and slide the sapphire ring back on your ring finger. “And it really is a nasty thing,” you roll out and snap your eyes up to look at the disbelief he’s trying to wipe off.
“But just so we are on the same page, tell me what exactly you are referring to,” you lull out and bat your eyelashes while a large winged shadow suddenly flies past the windows before a chitter breaks in the sky, and a growl soon follows.
He nor you need to look out to know it’s your dragon, it’s why he swallows back nervously and parts his lips, but you interrupt him because you know a bunch of shit was going to come out of his mouth.
“That’s what I thought,” you mutter with your voice losing that sweet honey and growing intimidating. “Did you know that rats are easy to kill here? Be that with traps, poison, or corner them where they nest and burn them.”
A loud roar rattles the room and a smirk begins to grow on your face, making Lord Larys clutch onto his cane and lean back against the chair.
“Come at me with that shit again, or threats and some bait to try and control me,” you spat. “And I will not need someone to get their hands dirty for me, my Lord. I enjoy chasing and catching my own prey.” You giggle. “It’s exhilarating. And I bet seeing how fast you run will be quite amusing.”
You stand up from your chair and point to the door. “There’s the door my Lord. It was,” you pause and drag out a deep breath before you finish. “Refreshing speaking with you. Come again.”
Lord Larys gets up from his chair and bows his head before he mutters his goodbye. “Princess.”
You raise your nose in the air as you watch him leave between your lashes.
“Oh,” you add as he’s making his way out. “And if I hear that wicked rumor spread about, I know who to look for, so don’t worry trying to hide, my Astraea is a great tracker.”
Lord Larys doesn’t add anything in return, he walks out in defeat. It’s only once the doors close behind him, and you’re enveloped in silence that you let out a deep and exhausted breath.
Having Jacaerys and a stranger find out is completely different, your brother wouldn’t out you to anyone, or spread your secret like a plague, but a stranger would so you had to show your teeth. You had to be threatening, which is new! It’s such a new feeling, but…it’s such a rush seeing people squirm in fear under you!
You can’t say you dislike having that power or any power at all for that matter. You can’t say you dislike showing it either, you want to relish in it. You want to bear it proudly.
——
*SOMETIME LATER*
“And…” you trail off and lower the wooden bow your hands embrace to watch the sharp metal arrow puncture the bullseye. “That’s how you do it.”
You spin on your heels and stretch your arms out like a dragon spreads its wings.
“Eagle eye,” Ser Jason mocks, and you chuckle and jump up to go and collect another arrow from your satchel.
“I mean that—” Ser Jason begins to stumble over his words as he realizes he was perhaps too bold, so you cut him off.
“Hush, it’s okay. And! Actually, my friend Lady Arra Norrey, Lord Stark’s wife, used to call me that because well…at first I was not a good shot.” You muse with a growing smile. “Do you mean it mockingly, Ser?” You shoot him a pointed look that makes him squirm and ends up making you grin. “I’m messing with you Ser.”
He scoffs and lets the tension fall from his shoulders.
“Now watch this,” you keep his attention on you as you turn on your heels and position your arrow before you break into a jog and bring your aim up.
Yet just before you can shoot your arrow, in the flash of a second, you swiftly spin on your heels and hastily aim at the third dragon head on an ugly green banner, before you let the arrow fly.
The arrow whizzes through the air rapidly, and the sharp arrowhead rips through the third dragon right in the beady eye.
“Fantastic!” Ser Jason praises you as he claps for your wickedly good shot.
You bow again as you laugh with glee.
“Lucky shot, but my ego will grow nonetheless,” you tease as you walk over to grab another arrow.
Albeit just as you take the arrow and turn to walk to your spot a guard walks over and clears his throat to let you know he means to talk to you. “Princess, Vhagar is approaching the city.”
A smile breaks on your face and you let the arrow and bow go to pick up your skirts and run through barriers of space thinking of no one else but Aemond, the cure to your solitude, and the warmth that left you in the cold.
Ser Jason is quick to follow after you in a hurry to make sure nothing happens to you whilst you run from courtyard to courtyard and swerve busybodies. When you reach the last gate that leads to the city you come to a stop and he doesn’t fail to come to a stop a few paces behind, making sure he never lets you out of his sight as you wait for your husband to appear down the cobble street, and slightly worrying of what he will do if your beloved husband doesn’t return alive.
It’s an outrageous thought, but he plans ahead just in case. Plus he can’t help but plan ahead. It’s how his mind works.
Nevertheless, his relentless planning is for naught because from one moment to another your fidgeting hands relax, the corner of your lips slowly rise, and your searching eyes lock on him, your husband, your Aemond.
From afar he seems unharmed, but that’s something you still need to make sure of before you truly thank the gods for his return.
Yet checking for his well-being is not what pushes you away from your spot, when his eye finds you just outside the gate your breath catches as you’re riddled with relief over the fact that he’s walking to you on his own two feet and not lifeless on a carriage.
All while Aemond himself comes to a stop, not because he’s overcome with relief that you’re alive, he never feared for your death whilst you stayed in the Red Keep. He freezes and is riddled with disbelief because no matter what, he did not expect you to be waiting for him past the gates of the Red Keep. He expected to find you in your chambers even if he knows how much your excitement can drive you.
And he's not thinking that catching you outside the Red Keep gates bothers him, his heart skips a beat as he realizes that you’re not some fever dream, you’re there, beaming at him before you break into a sprint to rip through barriers of space just to join together in a clashing embrace.
“Aemond,” you chuckle and cry with joy.
Said man is still caught by surprise for a second so he remains stiff before he melts in your warmth and returns your embrace with a much tighter hold that assures you that it's really him.
“I was worried,” you share softly against his neck.
Aemond caresses the back of your head and nuzzles his nose against your neck, letting himself display his affection for you around bypassers because he wants people to know that he is loved and that he loves someone dearly.
“I’m alright. I told you, didn't I?” He whispers and you can't help but hold him tighter as his voice travels in your ears.
“I will always worry,” you mumble before you pull back and grab his arms to look him up and down to check for any injuries. When you find nothing but soot and his messy hair your heart jolts nervously, but you also feel relief wash over another part of you as you reassure yourself that he came back to you in one piece.
“Nothing hurts?” You still ask him and slide your hands down to grab ahold of his. “Vhagar?”
His eye falls on the ground and he hides a timid smile. “No, I’m fine. I did not get hurt. And Vhagar is fine too.” He says quietly.
You study him one more time before you raise your hands to grab his face. You don’t say anything, nor does he. Aemond just slowly brings his eye up and looks at you with admiration while you watch him completely enamored. At that moment, without the need of opening your mouths, expressing how much you love each other, and how much this time apart was like a strain on the heart. It ached you both.
You also keep expressing how glad you are that he’s back, but it’s that twinkle that joy brings to your eyes that makes his jaw clench, and a deep breath to furl through his nose as he remembers the news he bears, news that will break your heart.
“Uh, I did not have time to warn you, but you must have seen,” you interject and fall on his side to hook your arm around his and head back to the safety of the Red Keep. “Aegon and Sunfyre went to Rook’s Rest.”
Aemond nods and rolls his eye in annoyance. “Yes, we unfortunately crossed paths.”
Your hand stiffens around his arm as you remember Aegon’s visit before he left. “Where is his Grace?” You mutter.
Aemond answers with silence for a moment before he gives you his response. “Aegon got hurt during battle.”
The corner of your lips threaten to pull into a happy smile, but you manage to feign worry. “What? How?”
Aemond stops and slips his arm away, but makes sure not to let go. He grabs a hold of one hand, while he uses his other hand to grab your shoulder.
“<Aegon,” he says in a High Valyrian accent before he continues in the same language. “Was fighting another dragon.>”
You hold his gaze and try to find his concern or pity, but rather than finding any flicker of worry, you catch a darkness dancing in his blue eye.
“<And the dragon burned him,” Aemond continues to add stiffly. “It was…a foolish act on his part to go to battle and challenge the dragon, but that act was repaid with dragon fire and broken bones.>”
You can’t pretend to be worried, you don’t care if he’s hurt or close to death. If you could you would clap and celebrate, but you hold it all back behind a shocked expression that raises your eyebrows and parts your lips.
“<What…” you hesitate as the other part of you that had begun to worry slowly starts to take over you. “…Dragon was it?>”
Aemond doesn’t answer right away, he keeps holding your gaze, and the corner of his lips twitch up, while that darkness brings a malicious gleam to his eye that you don’t miss.
It’s not difficult to read into these small expressions, for you at least. For anyone else who doesn’t really know Aemond beyond the facade he puts up wouldn’t realize the truth he masks behind that lie, but you do. You see it clear as day. Is it because he let you read him? Or because you know his soul?
Both, but regardless, you know it was no other dragon that brought Aegon down. Not after Aegon humiliated Aemond at that brothel, not after knowing the tension between the brothers, the pranks Aemond never forgave. It was Aemond and Vhagar. You don’t need him to put it in simple words for you to know.
Nor do you care that it was him. You’re actually proud it was him, and he sees that pride, just like he also reads your speechless praise between your lips twitching up and that gleam in your eye.
What a cruel pair you make huh?
“It was Meleys,” Aemond finishes sharing in the common tongue, bringing that relief and that pride to an end as the worry that only captured a part of you now takes over you completely.
“Meleys?” You mumble and clutch onto his hand while your eyelashes bat frantically as you try to find the reason why she would be there. You warned them. You sent it early so they’d know!
“Yes,” Aemond mutters and brings down the hand he had on your shoulder to grab your hand. “Listen to me...”
He says it. He shares the cruel truth and it all comes crashing down.
You don’t want to accept it at first, you can’t accept what came out of him, but he wouldn’t lie about it. What reason was there to lie about your grandmother dying along with her dragon Meleys?
Yet you want it to be a lie. You want it to be a cruel jest.
“Please,” you beg in a quivering voice. “Do not lie.”
Aemond doesn’t respond, he swallows back nervously and that only helps to reaffirm the truth; your grandmother Rhaenys is dead. She’s gone and so is Meleys.
Your grandmother…is gone. Someone else is dead, and you don’t need to ask who it was, you see that victory in his eye. It was Aemond again.
But right now that’s not what occupies your mind, right now all you know is grief once again. Agonizing, and heart-tearing grief.
It doesn’t let you breathe, it doesn’t let you think of nothing else but the pain. There’s so much pain.
You can’t breathe, it all weighs down on you. You want to be numb to it to not feel a thing, but you feel it all in all its glory.
“No,” you croak and feel streaks of tears rush down your face. “No,” you cry under your breath. “Please no.”
Aemond tries to pull you into an embrace, but you push yourself away and try to catch your breath, you try to take it all in to try and calm yourself down. However, your blood is rushing in your ears, making everything inside you hectic, making the noises around you louder than they are, and making the world move faster than it is which disorientates you.
You don’t know where you are, that knowledge is lost. All you know is the pain and the deep need to see your grandmother again. You want to see her one more time. You want to hold her longer. You don’t want her to be gone forever.
“Please,” you beg under your breath. “Help me.”
She told you that if you needed help to let her know, to tell her. You’re telling her now, you want her help now. You need it like you need to breathe.
But it won’t come, she won’t come to your aide. She won’t embrace you, or tell you that it will all be fine, she’s gone, and you can’t breathe because of it...
Everything around you begins to spin, and you start to feel lightheaded. You want to keep yourself stable, but you can’t find a wall. You actually stumble and the world that was once spinning around you stops, but only because a darkness begins to consume you.
You try to call for help, but your lips part and nothing comes out. You do however hear another voice, but it doesn’t belong to you, as you get swallowed by the darkness you recognize Ser Jason’s panicked voice. “Princess!”
Yet it’s not him who catches you, you know that much. The last thing you see is clear, it’s Aemond’s worried face above yours...

Message from someone that loves you 💌
so good to be back! I was doing some exams and recovering myself. 🌷 happy leo season for you all and happy birthday to me yay ☺🍵 I hope you guys enjoy this pick a card and that you all are doing good! <3
Pile 1 - Hello, hello cinnamon roll! Pile one! Yes, yes. Ok! Could it be a child? Definitely someone younger than you. Or a childhood friend for some people in this pile. Ok! It could also be a friend from adolescence. Ok, that person. I keep thinking "soul level." Ok! It could be that you have healed your inner children together! How cute! Someone with a good sense of humor, cheerful, and upbeat.
Message: Don’t let anyone tell you what to do. I don’t like seeing you feeling down or being bossed around. What I mean is that I want to see you show your braver and more authentic side to the world more often. But, haha, yeah, maybe the world isn’t ready. My dear, I don’t know if you care much about your appearance, but you attract more attention than you think! You are much more beautiful than you realize! Much more. 💌 I will protect you, I will protect your heart, just as you did with my inner child’s heart, haha. Don’t look at me like that! I’ve grown up a lot already, haha! I learned from you and see you as a role model. It’s true, you inspire me. Even from afar or without words. Watching you chase your dreams is amazing! It’s what I want to see the most! Yay! 💌 I’ll send you a song.
songs: blessed-cursed - enhypen; birds of a feather - billie eilish; say you won't let go - james arthur.

Pile 2 - Hello pile 2! My melody! Ah! How sweet! It could be a romantic interest or someone who has a crush on you! How cute! Really, you give this person butterflies in their stomach or speed up their heart. It could also be a confirmation if you’re feeling discomfort in your lower back, because I started noticing that while writing the beginning of your pile, and I wasn’t feeling it before. Anyway, let’s go to your message?
Message: Hi! You don’t leave my mind and can sometimes make me a bit confused. Well, yeah, I’ve been thinking a lot about you, but my ability with words isn’t as good or as voracious as my thoughts. In my thoughts, everything seems to work out perfectly, thank you, but I wonder if you feel the same. I’m at a loss for words to describe or express what I feel inside. 💌 Your scent is wonderful and your hair is beautiful! Something about you makes me admire you so much, and I’m looking to meet people like you now. Thank you for helping me notice certain patterns in my life. Now I just want people in my life who make me feel good, just like you do. You are someone who makes others feel heard, and that’s great! I want to be like that too. 💌 See you again! <3 💌🌷
songs: fate - g-idle; stereo hearts - gym class heroes ft adam levine; don't you worry Child.

Pile 3 - Hello, hello pile 3! Hello Kitty pile! It seems to be an old friend, someone whose connection reminds you of human warmth or maybe summer. Predominantly feminine energy. Ok! Let’s go to your message?
Message: Hi, dear! It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Well, you seem a bit tired? If you feel guilty for resting or wanting to rest, please don’t feel guilty. If you’re choosing between two paths, let me tell you a story to try to help you! Sometimes we’re like ducks swimming in a familiar lake, but sometimes we have to move and migrate to another place because of the temperature. So, don’t feel guilty for choosing what’s best for you now, my dear. 💌 Look, I have to tell you that I’m very proud of you! I’ve always believed in you, and your potential never ceases to amaze me, you know? 💌 Shine brightly as always, you’re my rock star!

flowers and unplanned proposals
xiao x gn!reader
if someone gifts an adeptus with flowers, it means you are proposing to them, and if they take it, it means they accept the proposal. unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on who you ask), you weren’t aware of such a custom. or — xiao thinks you’re married, but you just thought flowers would look nice on him.
fluff. comedy-ish. accidental malewife acquisition. featuring reader being clueless, xiao being hopeless, and lumine and hu tao being your biggest supporters
It started with a walk on the road as an acquaintance accompanied you.
There’d been a wild flower by the side, with white and lilac petals that you’d thought, rather presumptuously, would suit the dour faced adeptus beside you. So, you plucked it and impulsively handed it to him, a smile on your face and a shocked one on his.
His fingers closed around the flower’s stem, the stern lines of his face softening as he gazed at the tiny petals that glittered in the sun.
You’ve never been rid of him since.
Your friend Xiao could be described as protective at best and possessive at worst. It’s not a bad thing, of course! Caring for a friend is always a good thing in your books, but sometimes, you think he takes the word ‘caring’ to an almost extreme degree.
Take, for instance, now.
“Xiao?”
He hums from his spot on the sill of your window, not even sitting, no, he’s crouched on it, balanced on the thin ledge at the tips of his toes and keeping his eyes (which oddly glowed like a cat’s) peeled for any danger. Like this, he almost looks like a bird perched on a branch.
You let out an awkward laugh. “You know, I appreciate you doing this for me, keeping me safe and all, but I think I can spend the night on my own safely.”
His head whips to you so fast you almost feared he’d get neck cramps, an expression of surprise and… hurt? on his face.
“You… don’t want me here?”
You’ve never backtracked so fast in your life. “No! I mean, yes—but not in the way you’re thinking!”
He looks forlorn now, stepping down the windowsill and shoulders hunched in a similar manner to that of a cat pulling its ears down its head. “Is this what the Traveler meant by sleeping on the couch?”
You’re not sure what to do, but it seems like he wants to sleep on the couch? Puzzled, you smile encouragingly even though you don’t quite understand his words. “Er, if you want to sleep on the couch, you’re welcome to do so?”
His face falls.
✧
“And, I don’t know, he just became all—sad? Just, I felt so bad for basically kicking him out of my room, and now that I’m thinking more on it, I should’ve just offered to let him sleep beside me. Like a, um, a sleepover!”
There’s a distinctly bashful look on your face and, oh god, you’re drawing little circles on the table with your finger, an almost dreamy glint in your eyes.
Sweet Jesus that doesn’t exist in this world, Lumine is going to barf.
She slams her hands on the table, startling you in the process as she leans down and says with an exasperated face, “Have you considered that maybe you actually like him and he—”
“What?!” you squawk, mouth open in disbelief and a mortified look contorting your features. “That’s—don’t say such things, Lumi!”
She drops back down her chair, leveling you with a look that basically said, are you for real right now?
“It’s written all over your face—”
You quickly slap both hands on your cheeks, turning your head away. “I don’t like him! How could I ever… he’s an adeptus and I…”
“And you made an adeptus sleep on your couch,” Lumine deadpans.
She can feel the way your face burned at the reminder. You slump over the table, burying your head in your arms and bemoaning your decision. “I didn’t mean to disrespect him…”
“Oh, I’m sure disrespect was the farthest thing you did to him,” she mutters beneath her breath. Broke his heart, shattered his hopes and dreams, devastated him—Lumine can name a few more.
But then, you suddenly straighten up, determination lining your face. There’s a look in your eyes that tells Lumine she should probably stop you from doing whatever idiotic thing—however in good faith it might be—that you’re about to do.
“I should give him some flowers as an apology. He always gets so… not exactly happy but—warm, that’s it. He feels warmer whenever I give him flowers.” You smile, reminiscing on whatever moments you had with him. You stand up, looking down at the empty plates all over the table before looking at her apologetically. “I’m sorry, could you foot the bill this time?”
Lumine sighs. She’s still got money from the last commission Ningguang made her do, so she supposes she can do it. Just this once. “Fine, but you’re paying for our next outing!”
You beam, thanking her before running to the nearest flower shop or wherever it is you’re going to be getting those flowers from.
“Make sure to let him sleep on your bed next time!” Lumine yells to your retreating back, ignoring the strange, almost scandalized, looks from nearby patrons.
✧
You find him at your house, completely ignoring how strange it is that a friend has complete access to your house including a spare key and extra clothes on the closet just for him. It’s simply become the norm, is all. And he’s a good—you don’t quite know what to call him, roommate? you’ll settle for friend—friend, helping you with the chores and often accompanying you to the market when you need new groceries—but only during the early mornings, of course. You know how much he dislikes crowds.
“I’m home!”
The response comes immediate and, judging by the direction, it came from the kitchen, “Welcome home.”
The large bouquet of glaze lilies interspersed with roses and qingxin flowers is heavy on your arms as you walked to the kitchen. Xiao is there, a broom in hand which he sets aside once he sees you and what you’re carrying.
“Here!” You grin, extending the bouquet forward and into his arms.
He accepts it, a flush to his cheeks and looking distinctly flustered by the gift. “I… thank you.”
“It’s an apology.”
His eyes snap to yours, iridescent gold piercing through you. There’s something almost vulnerable in the way he’s gazing at you, hands tightening around the flowers.
You fiddle with your fingers. “Well, I wanted to say sorry for making you sleep on the couch. If you’d like, you can sleep beside me tonight.”
Something in him relaxes, tension bleeding out of his posture as he smiles, small and near unnoticeable to anyone who didn’t know him so well.
For some reason, the sight of it makes your heart leap.
Lumine’s words repeat in your mind.
Have you considered that maybe you actually like him?
No, you think with dread, absolutely not.
✧
“Yes,” Hu Tao crows in delight, “You’re absolutely in love!”
“See, that’s what I tried to say yesterday, but nooo. Oh, Lumi, Xiao is just a friend,” Lumine grouches, imitating your voice and utterly failing because while she may be strong enough to fight monsters and gods, that girl has absolutely no talent when it comes to mimicking.
Your palms cover your face that feels warm to touch. “I do not sound like that. And it’s true, we really are just friends!”
“Of course, because friends do things like living together and sleeping on the same bed and holding hands—” You open your mouth to protest, but Hu Tao doesn’t let you interrupt, “—don’t deny it! I saw you last week near Liuli Pavilion, and he was holding your hand and carrying a bag of food!”
“He’s just really helpful! He’s an adeptus,” you argue, though it sounds weak even to your own ears.
“And do all adepti live with a human, do they sleep with them—”
“You make it sound so lewd, Lumi!”
“—do they hold their hands and go grocery shopping at five in the morning with them?” Lumine pierces you with those honey gold eyes of hers. “Did you know I barely have anything to do in the Adventurer’s Guild here in Liyue besides babysitting and errands because someone—namely, an adeptus who coincidentally goes by the name Xiao—keeps killing all the monsters within the area?”
Hu Tao cackles. “He always asks about you whenever I encounter him at Wuwang Hill.”
You level her with an incredulous look. “What were you even doing there?”
“Hiding bodies, duh!” At your horrified look, she winks. “Just kidding!”
You shake off Hu Tao’s laughter and pinch your lips together. “Look, it’s—we’re just friends. That’s all there is to it.”
Lumine huffs, “Yeah, sure, because friends like you two give each other flowers everyday. How does your house still have space in it for more?”
You would’ve refuted her words, would’ve argued that no, you don’t give each other flowers everyday, just on a regular basis—but Hu Tao’s sudden silence concerned you more than what Lumine said. The funeral director turns her head to you with wide eyes.
“You gave him flowers?” she asks, an odd tone to her voice.
Your brows furrow at her uncharacteristic seriousness. “Um, yes? I do it all the time.”
She leapt forward, grabbing your shoulders and lips twitching into something you could almost call glee. “And he accepted it?”
“Why wouldn’t he?”
Hu Tao lets go of your shoulders to tilt her head back and laugh. Not the nice little giggles she does after a successful prank, no, this is more manic. The kind that wouldn’t make you think, oh how sweet, but instead makes you think, oh this girl belongs in a facility.
Even Lumine seems confused by her reaction, joining you in watching her like she’s just grown two heads. Hu Tao takes one look at both of your expressions and dissolves into another fit of laughter.
“Oh, dear. And you don’t even know what it means!” she says in between laughs.
Lumine, having had enough of being in the dark, grabs Hu Tao’s face with both hands and forces her to look at her in the eye. “What does it mean?”
Hu Tao grins, gaze darting to you. “When you give an adeptus flowers, it means you’re proposing to them.”
You and Lumine gape, understanding dawning on your heads, though there’s horror on your part at what it could mean.
But Hu Tao doesn’t stop there, “And if they take it…”
You await her next words with bated breath, Lumine seemingly on the edge of her seat as well.
“…It means they accept your proposal.”
Lumine’s screech of delight at this newfound information drowns out the metaphorical sound of your world falling apart and being built anew.
✧
You come home in a daze, eyes blankly staring ahead and unaware of your surroundings until you blink, and suddenly, you’re sitting at the dining table, a plate of steaming shrimp balls being placed in front of you.
Xiao crouches by your chair, examining your face with worried eyes. “Are you well?”
Your throat shrivels up. All the words and arguments you’d been planning to say earlier dying on your tongue. So, instead, you nod. He doesn’t outwardly look relieved, but the softness in his touch belies his care as he places a single stemmed qingxin flower on your palm.
It’s still fresh, you notice, dew gathering on the petals and the scent still present.
Xiao sits on the chair opposite yours, looking at anything and anywhere but your eyes. “I plucked it from the highest mountains of Jueyun Karst, blessed by Cloud Retainer and said to ward away unwanted dreams.”
You stare down at it, at the white petals that feel soft against the pads of your fingers, heart beating out of your chest and hands clammy and breaths labored, a pleasant twist to your gut as you realized that he’d gone out of his way to climb a mountain and have it blessed by an adeptus just to give it to you. There’s being friends, handing each other flowers they saw on the road or bought at a shop, and then, there’s this.
Your mouth feels dry, your chest feels full, and there’s something on the tip of your tongue begging to be let out.
“Xiao,” you start, finally gaining the courage to look up and meet his eyes. “What are we?”
His lips part, eyes widening the slightest amount that tells you he’s unsure what brought this question on and how to answer it.
You shake your head. “Never mind. Just tell me this—are we… engaged?”
At this, Xiao seems to relax. “No.”
You barely have the chance to feel a mix of relief and disappointment, though why you’d feel disappointment at having proof that you and Xiao really are just friends—
He smiles, a small one but no less brighter for it. “We are married, aren’t we?”
And oh.
Oh.
It’s not until now, with the confirmation of everything you dreaded (everything you’d hoped and wanted and yearned for desperately) that you realize how much you’ve longed for something more with him—how much you’ve longed for him.
“Xiao,” you say, eyes crinkling at the corners and cheeks aching with the intensity of your smile, “I love you.”
He startles, blinking up at you with wide eyes, red creeping up his cheeks, but before he can say anything you know he’s not quite prepared to say yet, you continue, still a little indignant at discovering you’d been married without a clue.
“But I demand a proper wedding ceremony!”

Okay... Maybe I just like Causing Jedi STRESS?
But! Again! SI-OC Jedi Youngling!
You know what HAPPENS to a Jedi when they die? They JOIN THE FORCE. Luminous Beings, we are~☆, remember? That kid! Got there SOMEHOW and don't tell me they just walked!
They had to DIE FIRST.
In short? Go Through The FORCE.
They are LUMINOUS. A bright and shining soul... shoved BACK into crude matter. Death UNDONE. Reversed. It's basically a god damned disability. Not ONLY are you smaller then your soul remembers you being? But your Soul GREW, as it was no longer contained! Like dense gas in a glass bottle, finally allow to spread out into a cloud.
Now? Shoved back into that bottle. Dispite having generated MORE GAS.
You are MORE then you were. BEYOND simple matter.
Multidimensional, in a way that is just a few steps beyond what you could ever be, as something bound by living flesh. But? You are also NOT. Because the Force took you, gathered you up, and neatly shoved MOST of you? Into an Itty, bitty, teeny, tiny lil meat suit. Cramped. Small. It... it pinches. You're weirdly AWARE of your organs and fluids and you don't like it.
Everything is so... so FLAT.
So EMPTY.
And they want you to pay attention to some mundane, random ass, LECTURE?! While you can FEEL your BONES and the stars whisper their grief? While plants sing growth just a few rooms away? While the light of billions of lives flicker flicker FLICKERS in chaos and confusion, in need, hurting and hoping, all AROUND YOU?!
Fucking MATH!?
You're BUSY. Will be for the foreseeable future. Now excuse you, you need to steal a ship, three modified blasters, a crate of sea shells, and enough credits to get a show tooka license for your false identity. The Force says you need to go to a moon you've never heard of. Yes, you are four, why?
Honestly? It might save Anikin's sanity. Having to help a youngling cope with their MASSIVELY OVERLOADED FORCE CONNECTION. What's that? Can't hear you. Can barely hear anything! Me and Anikin here are basicly standing Right Infront of the speakers of this, the Force's Heavy Metal Rock Concert.
Heads pressed up all niiiiice and cozy, to that jet engine!
We can't hear SHIT over the ENDLESS CACOPHONY.
IT'S. VERY. LOUD.
What is it like? Oh, same as you. The Force wants us to help. EVERYBODY. All of them. Now. All at once. Just.... just save EVERYBODY and fix EVERYTHING and what is this "food and rest" thing you keep talking about? Keeps pushing an endless quest that is impossible to fufill.
Except WE can hear it.
And it's not SUPPOSED to be this loud.
........so that's fun.

Hello are you still doing the SAGAU for reader gets mad and blowing up at people for certain characters? If you are can you do traveler or Lumine if you don’t want to do a general head cannon and fischl still? I’m so angry about how many NPC world quests that now seem like a pattern of traveler helps and then gets backstabbed and left to die and just really think those NPC need to under stand the gravity and anger of the players.
Hello, @celestialsiren! Yes, supposedly, I am still doing this series lol—I don't see why I should end it, seeing as there's always new characters that people request for. Ofc I'll do the Traveler!
Click Me For Part 1!
Click Me For Part 2!
Click Me For Part 3!
Reader Defending the Traveler! (Also No Vice Versa)
(Disclaimers: This May be OOC, And This Post Will Mainly be Using Lumine as "The Traveler." However, This Post Still Can Be Read as GN!Traveler or Aether.)
Lumine
To be frankly honest, I think you (the Reader) would feel pretty connected to Lumine. She's understanding, she's calm, and most importantly, she gets what it's like not to be from Teyvat. She's passed the celestial atlas to venture the world that is Teyvat, only to be prevented by the Unknown God.
Safe to say, you both were like two peas in a pod. And you were willing to travel with her and find her brother. Lumine gets you a lot, and you refuse any harm coming her way.
That includes verbal complaints. Like, honestly—Lumine's done so much for Teyvat for an outlander, and this is how they treat her?! You weren't having it.
So you planted your foot down, and boy, was your glare menacing. Your words were harsher than the blizzards of Dragonspine, and your glare was as menacing as the Dead Skeleton of Orobashi in Watatsumi Island.
Anyone who you deemed as enemy—in this situation, these good-for-nothing, took-for-granted gossipers—was paling at the seems of the Almighty Creator stomping their egos down. And, not gonna lie, Lumine kinda likes watching some of them. Some of the insults you used were actually used in other worlds—something only Lumine would know, but others didn't. It was kind of hilarious.
Alas, she can't have you go around and go all out all the time. Someone needs to make sure that the Creator doesn't try to decimate random folks, even if they are pretty infuriating.
"Your Grace." Lumine puts her hand on your shoulder. "Let's hurry up and finish this commission. We still need to get those rewards." You huff, but you let the insulters go, without a threatening note.
Yeah...she was not expecting to be an occurrence with so many other characters, but hey! Lumine's not gonna stop you :)
Ghost Rebel Side Notes: And we're done! Sorry if it's really low quality lol—I am so tired as I'm writing this :') I do hope you guys enjoyed it, though! Don't feel discouraged to keep sending me requests!
At this rate requests are probably the only thing that's keeping my blog alive. My blog is on constant life support LOL

Fortified Wager ♤♤♤ 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳 6
POV: Waiter-ing with You
♦︎♦︎ Aventurine x Reader ♦︎♦︎ 𝕀𝕝𝕝𝕦𝕤𝕥𝕣𝕒𝕥𝕖𝕕
🄱🄰🄲🄺 🅃🄾 【Chapter 5】
𝕋𝕒𝕓𝕝𝕖 𝕠𝕗 ℂ𝕠𝕟𝕥𝕖𝕟𝕥
“As you can see, my hands are full. As such, I’ll be requiring your assistance.” Then, with a slightly trembling hand, you brought it closer toward his mouth. He nibbled slowly and unhurriedly, gazing at you the whole time. “…Did you especially choose this one so I’d lick your fingers clean?” ♢♢♢ “There’s cream on your cheek.” “Eh? Where—…” With that, Aventurine leaned in and kissed the spot on your cheek. “!!!!!!!!” That one, tiny spot started burning like crazy. “There. All taken care of. I'd use my hands if they weren't, you know…”
~Cinderella & the Big Bad Wolf~
╔══ ≪ ♡♡♡ ≫ ══╗
“It’s amazing, what you did with the phone and the wallet.”
“!!”
Just like that, you were falling. You couldn’t even let out a scream. A pair of strong hands steadily wrapped around your waist and legs, lifting you into a bridal carry. Thus, instead of sprawling up on the floor, making a fool of yourself, you ended up on top of his lap.
His luminous violet-cyan eyes were enough to lock you in place. Then, the dashing gambler flashed a smug grin, as if he’d just won the ultimate prize.
You didn’t know what to make of that.
N-no way... is he going to rat me out to Big Baddie? Maybe they are friends after all!
All kinds of negative thoughts swirled in your mind, and you instinctively struggled to break free.
“Relax, I’m just offering a helping hand.”
But then, a husky whisper reached your ear. Hot exhalation swept across your neck, and you shuddered as if you were singed.
In such a close proximity, you could see each movement of his tantalizing red lips. Your throat felt dry all of the sudden.
“W-what...?”
A pathetic stutter was all you could muster, one that could easily be drowned by the wild thumping of your heart.
He continued, “That vile lecher is drooling all over you. I merely did what he’s dying to do right now.”
“Huh...?”
“What’s this? Mr. Aventurine can’t keep his hands off her, too? I get it! Such an interesting woman she is!” Big Baddie chimed in, as if on cue.
Hearing that, multicolored eyes left you, and you suddenly could breathe again. Thin layer of ice encased his gaze as he acknowledged the other party.
“Yes, I’m quite taken by her.”
“Kehehe! Of course, of course...” Big Baddie’s eyes narrowed as a perverse grin spread across his face. “So, after you are done with her... Can I...?”
“No.”
Although Aventurine was smiling, his tone was final, and Big Baddie was disgruntled.
Then, the blond gambler turned to you and whispered, “...Or would you rather go to him instead?”
Aventurine gave you a carefree, no pressure smile. But you didn’t miss it. The way his eyes narrowed for a split second when he said the word “him.”
Why did he seem... angry?
“Once I let you go, everything is out of my hands.”
Despite saying that, his grip around you tightened.
A realization appeared in the back of your head.
This was not offering a helping hand. Rather, a “choose your poison” situation.
After all, was Big Baddie the type of person who’d take ‘no’ for an answer? He’d probably look for you later in the staff room. Actually, he might just snag you right away. And to avoid that, you had to remain like this.
“...Well?” the gambler urged you for an answer.
Meekly shaking your head, you placed your hand on his shoulder, pulling yourself closer toward him.
“Good answer.”
Aventurine smiled in satisfaction.
🂡 🂠 🂣 🂠
Hello, it was you again.
Life had treated you well.
Despite the ups and downs, surely, as long as you kept going, you’d manage somehow.
Even the fiercest storm had an end, and the sun would shine again.
Yes, everything would come to an end, eventually...
...Even the fact that you were sitting on top of the lap of the Primavera’s richest gambler. Also, a manager of the Interastral Peace Corporation. And most recently, a planet conqueror???
It should have been a dream come true as an Aventurine fan, but reality had proven to be too much to handle. You had to sit upright and maintain a straight face at all times as he continued to play poker against Big Baddie.
“Ms. Aschenputtel?”
Suddenly, you heard Aventurine speak and turned around. Wrong move.
Damn!
His face was so close!!! So much so that you could even count his individual eyelashes!!! This was why you had to maintain your posture, otherwise you might crash into that stunning face of his!!!
Above all, your heart was threatening to burst! Any more of this, and you might die on the spot! You were only human, okay! And your idol was only 30 cm away from your face!
“...W-w-what is, it?” You asked back, stuttering more than usual.
“Do you hate me or something?” Aventurine asked sadly.
No, seriously. The usually cheerful, laidback man knitted his eyebrows, frowning, looking like an abandoned puppy. You almost saw an illusion of drooping ears and tail on him.
“N-no...”
“I see. That’s a relief!”
Ah, his 100-watt smile was back.
“I-it’s just...”
Having found your voice, you decided to set boundaries. Hello and welcome, personal space!
“‘It’s just’...?”
Aventurine tilted his head.
‘Excuse me, but I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable sitting on your lap. In the first place, this sitting arrangement violates my boundaries.’
C’mon! Spit it out! You were usually an outspoken person!
“This is... uh, something, on your lap, is uncomfortable...”
Curse it! Curse this mouth that wouldn’t stop stuttering in the face of your idol!
“Something on my lap?” Aventurine blinked. Then, something seemed to have dawned on him. “Aah, make sense. No wonder you were shifting a lot.”
Then, casually, he sat you down next to him, right beside the tall window.
R-really? This easy?!
It just made all your struggle to keep up and endure seem like a joke!
Well, you did just tell him that you were uncomfortable to his face. Unless he was shameless, there was no way he could keep going after that.
But then, Aventurine reached for the ornate pouch strapped to his left thigh.
“Poor thing. This must’ve caused you some discomfort.”
No, well, uh, sure, the golden crest did stab your behind from time to time, but you had a much bigger problem to worry about. Namely, the fact that you were sitting on top of him as he continued to play with Big Baddie. For everyone to see!
Was this guy playing dumb? Yeah, he had to be.
To top it off, he also placed you right beside the window. Something told you it was deliberate so that you wouldn’t escape. But where there was will, there was way. You could just stand up and casually walk past him toward the dance venue—
Except, he suddenly extended his long legs forward, blocking your only exit.
“I’ll take this off real quick and then we’ll resume.”
Aventurine grinned, unlatching the golden hooks on his thigh strap one by one.
No, this guy wasn’t playing dumb, he was playing you. Also, “resume” what? Resume playing poker, right? Right?!
Even his move seemed deliberately slow, as if he was taking his sweet time. Heck, he didn’t even bother looking your way. He knew he had you cornered on all sides.
Climbing the sofa was still an option.
...And yet, your brain decided that was the best moment to be a rock. To just sit there, fixated at every single movement his slender, gloved fingers made.
Clink! Thud!
Just like that, the glossy black leather pouch, decorated with a shiny golden emblem, slid to the floor. Even though it looked expensive as hell, the owner didn’t even spare it another look.
Instead, a pair of violet-cyan eyes stared straight at you. Aventurine beamed as if he had done you a huge favor.
“There. No more issues, right?”
‘No more issues,’ my ass!
Then, Aventurine extended his hand, beckoning to you.
“Come here.”
...He had to be the most shameless guy on earth.
Then what did it make you, the person who slowly yet surely reached out to take his hand?
Obviously, you couldn’t tell him you were uncomfortable with this seating arrangement anymore.
You awkwardly straddled his legs, feeling his gaze on you the whole time.
Time was passing painfully slowly as you brought yourself down on his lap.
A man’s thigh is firm, but also slightly soft...
Briefly, such a thought flashed across your mind, and heat spread across your face. You quickly dismissed that thought, desperately focusing on the flashing lights and the bustling venue.
Of course, you were only sitting sideways on his lap, lest his fans killed you. Speaking of his fans, they were watching you from every corner like a hawk. Some even sat together, gossiping while glaring dagger at you. Discussing your execution method, no doubt.
You couldn’t even blame them. You’d be too, if a random “waiter” who didn’t even splurge for the lotto tickets suddenly walked up and sat on top of their idol. That was just an abuse of power! And plain unfair! Heck, you’d be leading the entire meeting, and the subsequent ones after that.
...You faintly realized that you might be dissing yourself like this to escape reality.
Suddenly, Aventurine spoke again, reclaiming your attention.
“Hey, Ms. Aschenputtel...”
“What?”
What is it this time?
“Your hand.”
The blond grinned, acting all chirpy for some reason.
My hand?
When you were dumbfounded, not quite catching what he meant, he took your right hand in his. Immediately, the memory of how he brought it to his lips was revived and your face started blazing.
“W-what are...?”
“You can always scratch at my clothes instead.”
Saying that, his thumb softly caressed yours. You immediately shot a glance at your own fingers.
...Ack!
True enough, your bad habit had reared its ugly head. When you were nervous, you had the tendency of picking your nails, making them uneven and chipped. The sorriest-looking one was your thumbnail! Not to mention, Aventurine was the first to notice!
Before you could retract your hand, Aventurine placed it on his shoulder. Caught off-guard, the slight tug made you lurch forward...!
In the next moment, his narrowed violet-cyan eyes were all that you could see. His well-shaped lips, curved into a smirk, were only a hairbreadth away from yours. No, actually, from an outsider’s perspective, it seemed as if the two of you were kissing!
Aventurine looked as calm and as unperturbed as always. In contrast, you were freaking the shit out.
“I-I-I didn’t mean to...!”
You hurriedly pulled yourself back, trying to create a distance between yourself and the ultra-good-looking face before you, no matter how small.
But Aventurine leaned forward, rendering your effort futile. As he spoke, his warm breath tickled your lips, sending shivers throughout your body.
“You didn’t mean to do what? Did you do something?”
“I—... no, it’s nothing.”
Because now that you thought about it, nothing had happened yet. I-it wasn’t like your lips touched or anything! Not that you were disappointed about it or anything!
“Haha!” Aventurine let out a playful chuckle. “Don’t people usually apologize after they had done something? So, Ms. Aschenputtel...”
Saying that, he suddenly closed the distance between the two of you, his lips right next to your ear.
“Do something to me first.”
A husky, tantalizing voice spoke, full of provocation.
Flustered, you instantly withdrew and lost your balance. If not for the hand that securely supported your back, you’d have fallen to the floor.
His multicolored eyes narrowed further, taking in every minute detail of your reactions.
No.
This won’t do.
You’d really die from a heart attack at this rate!!
You were about to run away, but his arm softly wrapped around your waist, confining you.
“M-Mr. Aventurine...? Please let me go.” You asked, half-pleading, your pride be damned.
“Why? So you can run away again?”
Crap! Did he guess your thoughts? No, whatever expression you currently had right now must’ve given it away.
“N-no, I’m just...”
“Then, you won’t be going anywhere, right?”
...You shouldn’t have said that.
“Great! Something tells me this is going to be a long game, as I’m rekindling my friendship with an old pal.”
The “old pal” he was referring to, who had long faded into the background by this point, jolted. But from the look of Big Baddie’s face, it was obvious he also didn’t know there was some kind of “rekindling” going on.
🂥 🂠 🂧 🂠
Finally, you got to witness the high-tension game between two professional poker players! A match full of twists and turns! Nobody could catch a break! One wrong move could spell your complete defeat!
...Was what you wished you could say.
“Ms. Aschen~, Ms. Aschen~! Ah, fold.”
The one who cheerfully called out to you—with a nickname, no less—was, of course, Aventurine.
You slightly turned around so as not to crash against his face. Even from the corner of your eyes, you could see that he was smiling from ear-to-ear.
Absolutely no burden at all. Absolutely carefree. The only thing that changed from his demeanor was how he was acting increasingly chummier with you, as if the two of you’d reached the pinnacle of ultimate friendship or something.
“...What is it?”
“Tell me more about yourself. How long have you been practicing magic tricks? Fold.”
“Not that long, about... a few months, perhaps?”
“Only a few months? And yet, you displayed such an excellent feat! Ms. Aschen, you’re natural. How wonderful! Fold.”
Did he have to praise you so much? And so sincerely? ...Well, if that was what he wanted you to think, he succeeded, at least.
“A-ahem.” You cleared your throat, feeling your blush creeping to your ear. “It’s nothing much, I merely practiced it for a summer job—well, at first, anyway...”
“Oh? Does that mean you've discovered your passion for it? Then, Ms. Aschen, are you planning to pursue it and go professional—”
“—Ha! If she’s already between your legs, I’d say she's a pro!”
The one who gruffly spoke of such vulgar words was none other than Aventurine’s opponent, Billy Burnett, aka Big Baddie. As his losses mounted, he became increasingly snappish—toward you, anyway.
It was already a pre-established fact that Big Baddie was afraid of Aventurine.
Facing his cowardly outburst, you maintained a shy, demure waiter front, dropping your head. Your experience waiting tables expanded your patience, making it as vast as the ocean.
“See? She doesn’t even try to deny it. Women are all the same!” Big Baddie snickered.
...Yes, yes, whatever.
“Just ignore him, Ms. Aschen. Some people just aren’t born with intellect.”
Aventurine spoke in a clear voice that could be heard by anyone. Then, without breaking eye contact with you, he tossed some cards onto the table. You could hear the Big Baddie gasp.
Silence ensued.
“Congratulations, you’ve got the winning hand! Well played!”
The dealer announced with a lively and enthusiastic voice, as if it weren’t the dozenth time this had happened. Thus, another iron suitcase joined Aventurine’s side of the table. That was the last of the Big Baddie. For now, anyway.
“—So, Ms. Aschen, where were we?”
Then, for the dozenth time, Aventurine turned to you, resuming where you’d left off.
“Right, where were we...?”
You answered awkwardly. Hey, progress. You were no longer on the verge of exploding every time your idol’s heart-stopping eyes stared straight at you. You could also form short, proper sentences!
After that, the small chats would continue, mostly initiated by Aventurine. You had to give it to him, he was such a good conversationalist. You much preferred to be treated like air, though—for the sake of your survivability and escape.
Yes, that was right. Tension? What tension? This felt like waiting for ice cream at the Beskin-Rubbens counter on a hot Saturday afternoon with Nancy—only this time, with Aventurine!
...Speaking of which.
Amidst the casual conversation, your attention wandered slightly. There was something you’d been curious about.
Standing beside the table was the man who oversaw the entire game, the Dealer. He made sure to avoid drawing attention the entire time, blending with the background. Only his ecstatic winner announcements served as a reminder of his presence.
Knowledge of various casino games, cash handling experiences, and communication skills were no longer enough. They also had to be unbending in the face of irresistible temptation (bribery), unyielding in the face of absolute power (bigshots who threatened to fire their ass and raze the entire place to the ground), powerful(in case things got physical)—and above all, the courage to do the right thing (prevent that lucky bastard from bagging the entire nightclub’s earning). That, along with passing other tests, including but not limited to psychology and IQ tests. ~Ch. 2
Yet, this was the same guy who passed every round of Primavera's strict, nearly impossible tests. The Dealer with the specs of a literal hero—the Chosen One!
So how could you not get curious?
You sneaked a glance at him.
Unexpectedly, he didn’t look like every Tom, Dick, and Harry. Stone gray hair slicked to the back with hair gel. Round, golden eyes, gleaming with friendliness and amusement. Primavera’s crisp uniform really accentuated his broad shoulders and long legs.
Compared to Aventurine’s frivolous, princely appeal, the Dealer had that dependable and kind older guy vibe to him.
The Dealer noticed your gaze and gave you a friendly smile.
—!
Eep, you got caught staring!
But... when he smiled, he was kind of cute?
“—Ms. Aschen, what are you looking at?”
All of a sudden, Aventurine lowered his face to meet your eye level, blocking your view of the Dealer. For some reason, he was puffing his cheeks, obviously sulking.
...Adorable.
But you immediately regained your senses.
“Eh, oh no, my bad, did you say something?”
You felt bad. Anyone would get annoyed if they were ignored, right? Moreover, Aventurine had been carrying this conversation, always picking topics that were relevant to you, yet unobtrusive in nature.
“It’s fine!”
His smile was back... was it because of how downcast you seemed?
“My bad, this game is dragging on, isn’t it? I’m bored to death myself. I really wish this guy hadn’t kicked off this whole thing.”
...Oi, is that something you should say in front of the ‘old pal you’re rekindling your friendship with’?!
Then, Aventurine lit up as if a brilliant idea had just occurred to him.
“Right! Would you like light refreshments? I’m feeling peckish myself. You can order whatever you like, it’s on me.”
“Really—?!” You said, a tad too happily.
...In fact, even Aventurine looked slightly taken aback. But then, his gaze softened.
“Of course.”
After that, Aventurine sent the Dealer to fetch the menu for some reason. You couldn’t quite catch his name—Kyle? Kayel? Cael...? Anyway, the Dealer returned and handed the two of you the menu, grumbling under his breath, “Why me...?”
“Alright, which desserts would you recommend to me, Ms. Aschen?”
Aventurine spread open the menu on the table, and the fancy, now familiar desserts of Nightclub Primavera greeted you.
You struggled to keep your cheeks from loosening. All this time, you had to be sparing with your choice, so you usually went for the main course. But now, you were being treated to the exquisite dessert!
“Ah, there are so many to choose from...!”
“I never said you had to pick just one. Go ahead, order whatever suits your fancy, as many as you like.”
This time, you had to stop your legs from kneeling in worship of Aventurine.
“Then, what kind of desserts do you like? Any foods you avoid due to allergies?"
“I’ll go with whatever Ms. Aschen likes. Allergies? Eh. Sure, I have that, I guess. But I can't remember what food I'm allergic to. It’s nothing to worry about.”
How can it be nothing to worry about?!
Food allergies are the most common reason for lawsuits in restaurants anywhere, okay?
Above all, what if something happens to him?!
You glanced at your idol to see his expression, only to find that he was smiling like always.
Oh, well. Based on your experience as a waiter, someone who said “I’ll go with whatever you like” usually just didn’t know what to order or to expect from the place.
No, actually, ever since you first met him in this nightclub, besides drinks, had you ever seen him eat anything?
I don’t think so... I wonder why?
At the same time, he never failed to treat everyone else to fancy meals...
...Is he the god among gods?
Anyway, in that case...
“Then, may I bring your attention to our mini fruit tarts? We always make the cream from scratch and use the freshest fruits!”
You decided to put on your waiter (real) mantle and explain the menu and ingredients to him. Since you could only choose one meal set per day, you researched the Primavera menu extensively, prioritizing the most delicious options first. The knowledge you’d gained over time was finally being put to good use!
“—Ah, but you can consume dairy, right?”
“Yep, no problem at all. This one sounds good, we can order it.”
You jotted it down with the notepad and pen Marius provided you.
“Let’s avoid nuts because you might be allergic to it.”
“Fine with me.”
“As for this red velvet cheesecake—...”
Only after checking with Aventurine and looking at his expression would you proceed. You could somehow tell when he was genuinely smiling. ...Well, you had spent the past hour in such close proximity to him.
Then, after a bit of this exchange...
“—this biscoff has a melty mochaccino inside!”
“...”
You realized that you were speaking by yourself. Until a moment ago, Aventurine would give an ecstatic reply, but now he was quiet.
N-no way, did he get tired of hearing me talk?!
You were anxious—until you laid your gaze on his expression.
Aventurine rested his cheek on his hand, staring straight at you, smiling tenderly. His gaze was half-narrowed, his violet-cyan eyes exuding a soft, warm glow.
Serene.
It was the only word you could think of to describe the look on his face.
Rather than someone nodding off, he seemed like someone who was immersed in listening to his favorite song.
Noticing that you’ve stopped speaking, Aventurine asked you.
“Why did you go quiet?”
“—! Oh, no, no... I was wondering if I spoke too much.”
...Embarrassingly enough, you got entranced by his expression!
“Haha! Of course not. I can listen to you all day, Ms. Aschen.”
And you too, to his joyful laugh.
Before you could think of a reply, Aventurine went on.
“You’re looking out for me, aren’t you? You’re kind—really kind—and truly dedicated to your work. How charming you are, Ms. Aschen.”
Aventurine beamed widely. Even though it was nighttime, the sun was here.
“Not really, I’m just...”
Your face simmered with heat. As if that wasn’t enough, even your fingertips were red!
“Haha, see? Very charming.”
As you lowered your flushed face, you could hear him laugh once again, teasingly this time.
“I think that’s enough desserts! Let’s place the orde—”
—You stopped yourself in time. You wore the waiter’s pants here!
“We haven’t ordered drinks yet.” Aventurine casually interjected.
Why did it feel like he wanted to prolong your suffering—ahem, play around a bit more?
...Also, when it came to drinks, you always ordered Lazuli Bells, never trying anything else...
Celine, your best buddy in this nightclub, knew this. Even the bartender, Teo, knew this.
Eh, why not?
“Then, shall I recommend you our specialty? Lazuli Bells!”
Hearing that, Aventurine’s smile froze.
...Huh?
“May I know why?”
Even though his smile, tone, and attitude were the same as usual, something had definitely changed.
“...Do you not like flowery concoctions? If so—”
“Nah. I’m more interested in the reason why you recommended it in the first place.”
“B-because it’s my favorite drink...”
Faced with such an invisible yet undeniable tension, your vocabulary was failing you.
“...Interesting. Why do you like it?”
Fortunately, the next question he threw your way was easy-peasy—child's play! It was barely an inconvenience! Though, what was with that slight disappointment in his voice?
What a relief!
After noticing that you kept ordering the same drink every time, Teo and Celine often asked you the same question. To which you always replied the same, you didn’t even need to think twice—!
“Because the drink is really flavorful, refreshing, and not to mention, aromatic! Above all, the colors really did it for me! They are so pretty, just like Aventurine’s eyes!”
“...!”
“...”
“...”
...Except maybe you should really think about it this time. With Celine and Teo, that answer was fine, dandy, and only slightly embarrassing.
But guess in front of whom you were sitting right now. Yes.
As you opened the page to a new, dark chapter of your life, you buried your face in the menu.
Curse it! Curse this mouth that spewed stupid things in the face of your idol!
“...Please ignore that. You heard nothing. I didn’t say anything.”
As your cheeks began burning—way more intensely this time—you mumbled.
“Of course. Did you say anything just now?”
Even though you were averting your gaze, you could tell that he was grinning smugly. Really smugly.
“Fine, I accept. Shall we place our order?”
“Y-yes, let’s...”
“Uh-huh, I can’t wait to see a drink as pretty as my eyes! I wonder what it tastes like, a drink as pretty as my eyes... A drink as pretty as my eyes, hm? Truly fascinating.”
AAAH! EARTH, SWALLOW ME WHOLE!
🂥 🂠 🂧 🂠
After finishing setting up the desserts and drinks on the table, the Dealer—yes, the Dealer—returned to his designated place beside the table. You could hear him mutter under his breath, 'Seriously, why me?!'
An array of exquisite-looking desserts was beautifully arranged on the table. There was a set of colorful, bite-sized fruit cupcakes, glittering like accessories inside a jewelry box. A rich, chocolate mousse sprinkled with crunchy choco chips. A luscious tiramisu, with layers of delicate, coffee-soaked lady finger biscuits embraced by rich, creamy mascarpone cheese. Lastly, two glasses of Lazuli Bells were served.
As the waiter, you offered to do it, but Aventurine refused. He really didn’t want to let you go for some reason. At this point, you were starting to suspect that both Big Baddie and you owed him something.
“Alright, Ms. Aschen, our food is here. They do look amazing! You sure have an impeccable taste!”
After looking at the table, Aventurine turned to you and smiled. By now, his generous side when it came to giving praises was no longer foreign to you. Yet, it still didn’t stop a slight blush from dying your cheeks.
“Y-yes. Shall we dig in?”
“Sure! I wonder which dessert we should start with!”
Aventurine answered gleefully, but something was odd...
...Namely, his hands didn’t move at all. Sure, one was still wrapped around your waist as you sat on his lap—this was your life now—but the other was merely clutching a few cards...
Aventurine was still beaming, yet you had a bad feeling about this...
“Ms. Aschen~” Aventurine called out to you, sounding spoiled.
See—?!
“What is it, Aventurine?” You asked warily.
“As you can see, my hands are full. As such, I’ll be requiring your assistance.”
“Assistance...?”
In response, Aventurine drew closer to you, parting his well-shaped lips. His narrowed, violet-cyan eyes peered straight into yours, drawing you in with their irresistible allure.
It was your defeat.
Whatever! Let’s just get this over with!
“Which dessert would you like?”
“I’ll let you decide.”
You glanced at the assortment of mini cupcakes before choosing the one that looked the most delicious, topped with the most fruit slices!
Then, with a slightly trembling hand, you brought it closer toward his mouth. It was as if your heart was on your sleeve, literally!!! You saw Aventurine’s eyes narrowing even further, and his grin widening.
Besides his honeyed tongue, you also became well acquainted with one other fact: he really enjoyed getting a reaction out of you! Leaving aside the fact that he was your idol, it was annoying as heck!
Suppressing the urge to shove it into his mouth, you watched as Aventurine leaned in and took a bite from your hand. He nibbled slowly and unhurriedly, gazing at you the whole time.
Like, why?! Just stare at something else!! Or play poker!! What about Big Baddie?! You’ve been ignoring him for so long!!
Meanwhile, you sat there, frozen in place, watching as the already small dessert slowly disappeared. Then, somehow, despite his carefulness, some cream still dripped on your fingers. Granted, this dessert had a generous amount of cream.
But just as you were about to retract your hand, Aventurine seized your wrist.
Oi, you said your hands are full—
—All semblance of thoughts were blown away when he suddenly sucked on your fingers.
He wasn’t staring at you this time. Yet, you felt it—the sweep of his warm breath, the caress of his lips, the slight graze of his teeth, and above all, the soft swirl of his tongue. You felt everything, right at your fingertips.
...This.
This is what’s going to kill me, isn’t it?
Once he was done, Aventurine licked the cream from his own lips, looking satisfied.
“Indeed, it was delicious. I know you won’t disappoint me. One question...”
While your mind was still recovering from the quiet explosion it had suffered, you saw his mouth curving into a haughty grin.
“...Did you especially choose this one so I’d lick your fingers clean?”
“!!”
...NO!?!?!?!?! Also, you started this!!! I’m suing!!!
“Haha, Ms. Aschen, let's not get violent, shall we? Please put down that tray. Here, why don't you try some?”
With an amused grin, Aventurine pushed the plate of dessert toward you. The aromatic blend of vanilla and cocoa fragrance tickled your nose.
—Ah, food. My weakness.
...Thankfully, he didn’t offer to feed you or anything. With that, you put down the silver tray and reached for the mousse. Finally, you could taste food again, instead of sheer embarrassment.
But your relief was short-lived.
“Ms. Aschen, there’s cream on your cheek.”
“Eh? Where—...”
With that, Aventurine leaned in and kissed the spot on your cheek.
“!!!!!!!!”
That one, tiny spot started burning like crazy.
“There. All taken care of. I'd use my hands if they weren't, you know...”
He had the gall to look remorseful!!! ...And damn did it work!!!
Then, when you were munching on the tiny cupcake...
"Ms. Aschen, is it that delicious? Let me have a taste—”
Just like that, Aventurine was right in front of you, taking a bite of the cupcake you were eating. Given how small it was and how close you were, his lips were only inches from yours.
Before you could say anything, he gave you another remorseful look of ‘my-hands-are-full.’
This guy—!!!
Shouldn't one usually be wary of handsy guys?! How is this guy managing it with his hands full?!
Also, is it just me, or did he just intensify his attack?!
What were those previous ones then?! Getting you to sit on his lap and all those other embarrassing things you didn't want to remember?! Was it just 1% of his power?!
“Cough! Hack! Cough!”
Back to reality, you choked and started coughing non stop.
“Oh no... Here. Have a drink.”
Then, a triple-colored drink was pushed in front of you. You immediately gulped it through the straw. After you could finally breathe again, you realized something important.
...Your own drink was still in your hand, visibly half-empty. It was the Lazuli Bells! You couldn’t resist taking a sip from the moment it was served! In other words...
“Aventurine, that is your own glass.”
Like, sure, both had no alcohol content. You didn’t want to get drunk, while Aventurine especially requested it that way. Still, the point stood. You expected the man to tease you again, saying ‘I know.’
Except, Aventurine looked genuinely taken aback. He stared at his own hand, which was still holding the glass to you. His own glass.
Did he really not realize it? Was he acting out of panic?
After a brief silence, Aventurine uttered, “...Or so luck would have it.”
As he said that, a trace of emotion flickered in his eyes. It seemed like happiness... and also sadness. How could such contrasting emotions appear so similar in his gaze?
...What was that about?
While you were pondering, Aventurine took a sip out of your glass.
“There, we’re even now.”
He looked up at you, eyes full of mischief, and grinned.
Your favorite person smiled at you, his mesmerizing violet-cyan eyes glimmering. Right beside him was your favorite drink, Lazuli Bells, sparkling under the colorful lights.
It was like a dream come true.
...All this time, I’ve been looking at you from afar.
Hence, you didn’t know.
You didn’t know that the blueness of his eyes could sometimes shine as brightly as the sparkling ocean or darken like the ultramarine depths.
In the same way, you didn’t know that the purpleness of his eyes could sometimes lighten like the sunset clouds or darken like the purple backdrop of the evening sky
Like vibrant, moving lights.
“—Hello? Earth to Ms. Aschen?”
“S-sorry... I was just thinking...”
“What were you thinking about?”
His gaze was tender, and his smile so indulgent that your honest feelings spilled from your lips.
“...The real ones look so much prettier.”
Given how you were subtly glancing between the drink and his eyes, there was no way he couldn’t know what you were referring to.
And yet, his eyes still widened, as if in shock, but only briefly.
“Ms. Aschen.”
The next time Aventurine spoke, he’d reverted to his usual expression. The smug, all-smile expression of Primavera’s lucky gambler.
...Yet, dare you say, it seemed distant?
“I haven’t tipped you for your incredible service tonight, have I?”
“Huh...? I, uhm...”
Was he trying to give you a tip? At first, you wanted to refuse, but you also had to mind your role as a waiter.
But, at the same time, accepting this tip felt like agreeing that this was merely a service he had paid for.
Somehow, it felt as if he was reminding you of your own place.
You looked up at him again.
He was right in front of you, staring directly at you, yet he felt incredibly far away.
—Then again, sitting here, right beside your idol, was already a miracle in itself.
No, if anything, you only had Aventurine to thank for. Because of him, the operation to return Big Baddie’s belongings went without a hitch. If it weren't for him, would Big Baddie even give you the time of day?
Had everything gone according to the original plan, you'd be causing a mess left and right, becoming an utter disgrace. At the rate things were going right now, at least you were spared half of your dignity.
I’m probably overthinking things...
“Thank you, I really appreciate it.”
Smiling gratefully, you extended your hand toward him. For the time being, you decided to play your role perfectly—
“This is just a little something.”
—Or at least, until you saw what he placed on top of your palm.
You stared at it, then back at him, then back at it again.
Until you were fully sure what it was, your eyeballs threatened to pop out of their sockets.
“Wait...!! This is...!!”
You shot him a look—or, more precisely, at his collar, which now seemed a bit more plain.
Because the sparkling golden collar chain, studded with gleaming indigo gems, was now in your hand.
Aventurine smiled as if troubled. “I don’t bring cash with me, so I hope this will do. It’s one of my collections. If you take it to a gold store for appraisal, you should be able to earn a bit of money.”
“This, but this is...”
You couldn’t comprehend anything, and your palm felt so heavy all of the sudden.
He doesn’t bring cash so he gives me THIS instead—?!
Briefly, you glanced at the pile of metal suitcases behind him. Granted, if he gave you any of those money—Big Baddie’s money—you’d absolutely refuse. Otherwise, how were you supposed to face Teo and the twins?
Regardless, on its own, it was still an issue!! You had to return this somehow!!
“—As expected, this is still too cheap, isn't it?”
Despite how arrogant the question might sound, his tone was earnest. There was even a hint of innocence in it. Heck, he even seemed guilty for some reason.
Then, Aventurine grabbed the lozenge-cut emerald studded on the fabric of his chest. He ripped it off so carelessly that he tore the front of his uniform as well. As a result, his already open chest became even more exposed.
After that, he placed the emerald on top of your palm, just like that.
“WOOOW!!!”
“OMG!!!”
Screams erupted all around you, mostly from women, as camera flashes rapidly went off. Aventurine’s fans. They were watching.
What just happened...?
Meanwhile, you could only sit there dumbly as your logic went haywire.
W-why is he doing this? Is it because I refused his black card? So, now he thinks I accept payment in GOLD?!
Also, also, because he thinks the payment is lacking, he adds ANOTHER gemstone on top of it?
Then, Aventurine started to explain while staring intently at your face.
“This is the most precious item on my person right now.”
M-most precious...?
Aventurine added, as if he were aware he was making a mistake. “I can also throw in my ring.” As he said that, he began reaching for the sapphire ring on his right index finger.
Isn’t this just robbery in broad daylight?!
If you didn’t put a stop to this, would he strip himself naked?! Moreover, why did he look so earnest the whole time?! He kept glancing at your expression, as if the world would end if you didn’t get paid enough!!
You felt so guilty! It felt as if you’d forced a gorgeous peacock to pluck off its own feathers until you were satisfied!
Then, just as you were about to say something...
“Wait—” “—WAIT A DAMN SECOND!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”
A much louder, croaky voice drowned yours, and Aventurine froze, thus preventing him from adding another piece of jewelry on top of your hand.
Thank you!!!
For the first time in your life, you felt thankful to Big Baddie.
🂡 🂠 🂣 🂠
The main dance venue was still as bustling as ever, but your surrounding vicinity quieted down somewhat.
Big Baddie stood up on the other side of the table, fuming as he directly pointed at Aventurine.
“This isn’t what we agreed upon!! Why are you giving those precious stones to a goddamn waiter?!”
Aventurine sighed, looking fed-up, saying, “And what did we agree upon? I don’t see you winning, so these stones are free for me to do with as I wish.” Much to your relief, his hand left his ring.
Then, Aventurine turned to you and smiled, speaking in a quieter voice as if gossiping.
“Do you remember when I said ‘this vile lecher is drooling all over you’? I was actually speaking from experience.”
“Huh?!”
“...Yeah. The moment he laid eyes on them, he wouldn’t stop pestering me, asking to buy these stones off me and whatnot. So, I invited him to a poker match.”
Actually, seeing how excessively tacky Big Baddie is, it somehow makes sense that he’s also a gem enthusiast...
“...Couldn’t you just say no?”
“I had nothing better to do at the time," Aventurine said with a shrug, as if it were someone else's problem.
“Hey, you waiter over there!”
Seeing that he wasn’t getting through Aventurine, Big Baddie turned to you. His eyes burned with greed as he stared at your hand.
At the same time, you felt Aventurine’s grip around your waist tighten. Though you had mostly adjusted to sitting on his lap, his hold had never been imposing, almost as if it wasn't there. The sudden change surprised you, making your heart race.
Anyway, you still had a cross between a bull and a gorilla to answer to.
You pointed at yourself, “M-me?”
“Who else! Do you have any idea how much those gems are worth?!”
“H-how much...?”
“They are flawless gems! Especially that emerald! It’s Cygnus Emerald! It’s worth at least 170,000,000,000,000Credits!”
W-wait, come again? How many zeroes were there again?
...IT’S IN TRILLIONS?!?!
In disbelief, you warily glanced at Aventurine, hoping he’d say it wasn’t true.
“Not exactly,” Aventurine smiled, then added, “The mine has since closed down, so it's the rarest of the rare—probably worth five times that amount.”
Your jaw nearly dropped as the weight in your hand felt five times heavier.
He actually knew?! And yet, he still gave me these willy-nilly?!
Young man!! How have you been tipping every waiter you met in the restaurant all this time?! By giving them a new life?!
“Those aren’t for you to have! I’ll pay you, so give them to me!” Big Baddie demanded desperately.
“...How foolish. Even if you gave her all these suitcases, it still wouldn’t be enough to cover a quarter of it.” Aventurine shot it down with disinterest. “Besides, last I checked, it’s up to me to decide who these belong to.”
Meanwhile, you were panicking inside.
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!! Is this really happening?!?!
Won’t I be suspected of robbery?! Will a bunch of police arrest me the moment I step outside the club?!
But then, Big Baddie let out an exasperated sigh, clutching his head.
“Haa...! See, this is why a slave like you is hopeless! You’re blind to its worth, which is why you gave it away to a rando! They are wasted on you!”
Those words, clearly directed at Aventurine, put an end to your cathartic thoughts.
At the same time, the atmosphere around the blond gambler shifted drastically, as if encased in a glacier. Chills went down your spine, yet you dared to turn around.
“Ave-Aventurine...”
“Hm?”
When Aventurine turned around and met your gaze, there wasn't a trace of warmth in his eyes. He smiled, but it was devoid of any emotion.
“What do you think of those gems? Do you like them?” he asked, his tone as friendly as ever, but it only gave you ominous feelings.
“I-I think they’re pretty, but I don’t think I can accept them—”
“—Why? Because a slave gave them to you?”
His words pierced you like a dagger of ice. Yet, it didn’t sound like sarcasm in the slightest.
It was a genuine, sincere question.
“I...”
What were you supposed to say to that?
Seeing that you went quiet, he went on.
“Ms. Aschenputtel, I may be worth only a few measly coins, but I can assure you that my gifts are not.”
‘Ms. Aschenputtel.’
Until now, he’d been endlessly calling you ‘Ms. Aschen’ in an overly familiar manner, to the point that you felt like it was your real name. But now, it felt like a thousand miles of distance had expanded between you.
“If you dislike them that much, you may place them on the table over there.”
Then, he averted his gaze, no longer looking at you.
“Aventurine, it’s not like that—"
“—Hahahaha! Of course! Of course she doesn’t know! That's what you get for letting his looks fool you!”
You were interrupted by Big Baddie’s thunderous laugh.
“Do you know how hard I’ve been holding back my laugh?! I was wondering how to break the news this whole time! Hahahaha!”
Big Baddie laughed and laughed until tears formed in his eyes, as if enjoying the show. Then, he glared maniacally at you, his gaze twisted with sick pleasure.
“Serves you right, you shallow bitch! How does it feel to find out that you’ve been latching onto shit painted with gold?! Now, hand them over!”
Big Baddie greedily extended his stubby palm at you.
You instinctively retracted your hand, gripping the jewels tightly.
While you couldn’t bring yourself to accept them, you were sorry to give them to Big Baddie!
Seeing that, Big Baddie was enraged.
“Fucking whore! Do you think I was asking you?! Before, I was kind enough to offer you payment, but now you can forget about it! Just wait and see if I don’t make your life hell!”
Hearing the last part sent a shiver down your spine. Big Baddie definitely had the power to make someone’s life miserable—not just their own, but also their entire family and even those slightly related to them. It was a rural town, so his name was well-known in the area, and most, if not all, businesses were affiliated with him.
Above all, he was a loan shark. Harassment, bullying, mental coercion, verbal abuse, threats, and violence were part of his daily routine.
As such, how could a mere waiter not be afraid of him?
Apparently, you and Big Baddie were thinking the same, because in the next moment, he mentioned a certain someone.
“You know what? There was a waiter just like you—acting all high and mighty and being stubborn for no reason. In the end, I had that stupid cunt begging on her knees, crying. That was the last anyone ever heard of her.”
You never got to ask for her full name, but that must’ve been Judith.
The fact that you were standing here, clad in her uniform, must’ve been a work of fate.
Big Baddie gave you a nasty smirk as a perverse glint filled his eyes. “Now, if you don’t want to end up like her, you know what to do.”
You stared at your own hand.
Compared to the worn-out leather wristwatch and your shabby hand, these sparkling gems certainly seemed unbefitting. You never thought of them as yours to begin with, so parting with them was easy. Especially when they could free you from Big Baddie.
So, you stood up, leaving his lap.
Before you knew it, the arm that had been wrapped around your waist was gone, as if it had never been there in the first place. As if he was saying, ‘you are free to go.’
You didn’t know what kind of expression Aventurine was making right now. You no longer dared to look.
The closer you got, the wider Big Baddie's grin became, like a child finally getting his hands on something he had always wanted. He was basically salivating.
With your head hung low, you quietly hovered your hand over the edge of the table.
“See? You should have just kept quiet and done as you were told. The truth is, I actually like you. You’re quiet and obedient.”
Even then, Big Baddie wouldn’t stop talking, as if rubbing in his victory. Well, you agreed with him. As a waiter, that was probably your best option.
“I was just trying to save you, you know? I’m sure you also don’t know this, but that Avgin slave over there killed his owner.”
Opening your hand and placing them on the table suddenly felt so hard. But in the end, your rationality prevailed. You let the collar pin and emerald fall over the edge of the table.
Without wasting a beat, Big Baddie rushed to bend over the table to reach for them.
Meanwhile, you glanced at your own wristwatch, sighing.
It may be old, but it has served me well.
You loosened the strap, letting it slide over your knuckle. Then, you finally met Big Baddie’s eyes.
“Of course I know, you piece of shit!"
In the next moment, your fist slammed straight into his face.

♫ 05; ↠ STARTING ON A SOUR NOTE
↳ my heart beats for you-a scaramouche smau
Both of your hands rested on either side of the sink in front of you as you pushed your weight onto it. The restrooms in Favonius were surprisingly fancy (and somehow super clean?) for a live house.
You lifted your gaze to make eye contact with your reflection.
Were you having an existential crisis in the bathroom to avoid an incredibly awkward encounter with your ex?
Yes.
Would Lumine scold you like a disappointed parent once you get back? (Assuming that you'd actually leave the peace and lovely solitude of the enclosed room)
Also yes.
You splashed some running water on your face to try and bring yourself back to your senses-not that you had any in the first place-but you'd digress.
You groaned as you lightly slapped yourself, hands still moist due to the sink water.
You looked into the mirror once more, your reflection's gaze daunting, it was almost as if the mirror was also telling you that you had to face the music (pun intended).
Suddenly you heard a knock, and an unfamiliar voice came from outside the restroom door.
"Um excuse me? Is someone in there?"
It was the voice of a young girl, probably around your age, most likely one of the employees.
You silently cursed underneath your breath, how long had you been in there? An hour? Two? Three?! It would be a miracle if they didn't think you had gotten sick or something.
"One second!"
You called out from inside, quickly smoothing out your clothes and drying off your face from the splash earlier. You zipped up the purse that you had brought into the room and you lifted your guitar case that was leaning against the wall and you turned towards the exit.
You opened the door, and the swing was more aggressive than intended. After stepping out of the restroom, you were met with a petite girl with light green hair with glasses and a name tag that read "SUCROSE" in gold print.
"Sorry I was just..."
You paused trying to think of a good excuse that wouldn't embarrass you.
"...doing my makeup!"
Yeah, real smooth there (Y/N)
The girl looked at you with a blank expression, her mouth forming an "o" shape, clearly trying to make you less uncomfortable by trying to believe your clearly untrue excuse.
"You're Miss (L/N) right? From C✧LESTIA?"
Wow, so formal...
You gave her a curt nod in return.
"The rest of your group was looking for you."
Shit
Well, you may as well start digging your grave now, Lumine was probably planning on doing it for you.
"They're in studio six by the way, just turn left and keep walking until you see it."
The girl, Sucrose you assumed, had explained gesturing down a wide hallway with glass panes and doors, all numbered one through fourteen with gold engraving.
You muttered a quick "thank you" to Sucrose before making your way towards the studio, lugging your guitar next to you as you walked by the other numbered doors.
Taking several breaths, you stopped a few feet before studio six, the door seemed almost daunting before you.
Maybe you could turn back now, call in sick maybe? But then again Sucrose already saw you, and chickening out now would certainly cause several problems once you saw the rest of the band back at school.
All you had to do was open the door, and walk into the room, and you were just about to do the latter, but then it turned out someone else did it for you.
To your surprise, the door had slowly creaked open, and a familiar green bard with his signature braids had walked out holding a mic set. He was calling out instructions to some other people into the room before turning to you and realizing your presence.
"Heizou, just let Xiao carry the drum set what're you trying to prove-Oh! Hi (Y/N)!"
Venti exclaimed, he leaned against the door to keep it open for the rest of his band mates.
"We're just gonna run some sound checks at the stage so you guys will have the studio all to yourselves."
He flashed you his signature grin before the rest of 5WIRL started trickling through the door, first Kazuha who smiled and gave you a quick hello, who was quickly followed by Heizou who did the same. Then Xiao, who just glared at you, but said hi nonetheless.
Then the ever so lovely Scaramouche, who simply side-eyed you and murmured "Took you long enough..." followed by a prompt roll of his eyes.
You didn't care about decorum so you just stuck your tongue out at him, yeah both of you were being childish but it was the norm for you two.
And followed by Scara, was the one and only Aether who smiled at you, the same smile he always seemed to reserve for you, before, during, and after your past relationship, he was practically beaming at you.
"Hi (Y/N)!"
You muttered a quick "hello" in response looking down at the ground.
Archons, why can't I just be normal around him?!
The band made it's way past you and you picked up brief snippets of what they were saying, mainly of Heizou teasing Aether, and brief mentions of your name could be heard.
Well opening the door was already done for you, now all you needed was to step inside.
And so you did.
The second you entered the room you were met with silent greetings from your fellow bandmates, and most importantly, a certain vocalist making her way towards you.
"Unpack and tune that guitar in the next three minutes or else I'm turning our next gig into your fucking funeral."
You could basically feel the tension radiating off Lumine.
"Yes ma'am."
Well today was off to a great start...

Of course, this forces you to spend time with your sworn rival whether you like it or not. But maybe the two of you can overcome your differences and actually be friends?
Or maybe even more?

Can you do another S/O is a Dark lord reincarnated but with other Lumine and Archons like Ei, Zhongi, and Nahida? I'm curious what the Archons would think the one they love is the dark lord they destroyed all those years ago reincarnated but they are not aware of their past life.
(Ty for the first request of the day annon! This is mostly angst becuase i was feeling a bit silly but i did a little fluff for nahida TW: SUICIDE, DEATH/EXECUTION)
Sheep in Wolfs clothing
Lumine
•When she found out your past life was the dark lord she was schocked
•Paimon said that you to should break up for the greater good but She thinks she should ask you first
•”I dont know what your talking about! Theres no way!” You responded but lumine didnt believe you
•She thought you were lying so she did what was best for her left you, you tried to reason with lumine but she didnt listen just pushing you away leaving you with your tears on your face
•Finally when she realizes what shes done she doesnt know what to do, she just cut off the person that helped her through her adventures, made her smile, laugh, happy and becuase of her choice your gone now
“Im sorry [NAME]..”
Raiden Ei
•She jumped to conclusions quick, what if you were plotting against her? You were USING her so you can trap the whole world into darkness were you?!
•She confronted you as soon as she found out, when you said you aren’t familiar on what she means she did that believe you
•She had Hatamotos (Inazuma Guards) take you away saying the 5 worfd that broke your heart
“Your execution is tomorrow, traitor”
•You pleaded trying to get her to understand but she would just turn away blinded by her pride
•The day came, you were in front of everyone you were trembling in fear as everyone was booing you throwing things at you, but Raiden didnt care you were the traitor, right?
•Raiden walked up behind you her blade raising into the air
“Any last words?”
“I love you—“
•right agter those words you would fall to the ground, a lifeless body as everyone was cheering and happy! Raiden should be to.. shouldnt she?•
•She was angry at herself, not only she killed the person that LOVED HER she will never feel her touch, her lips against hers, arms rapped around her, hands through her head She realized it was her doing..
“Please [NAME] in another life..forgive me”
Zhongli
•He most likely found out through Xiao or Ganyu so when he did he was conflicted on what to do
•Ganyu said he should keep you close to make sure nothing happens, but Xiao thinks he should banish you
•So zhongli picked, you HAD to go
•He confronted you about it and you said you didnt know, thats what made him want to kick you out more
“You were using this whole time werent you”
•He wasnt going to kick you out just then in there, no.. he was going to make everyone look at you there stares were in disgust, telling at you
“DISGRACE!”
“MONSTER”
“YOU WHORE”
•You walked out of there in shame having no where to go then one place
•Zhongli had thought he had done the right thing for liyue, Yes, he didnt want you, a traitor to put it into darkness again! Well thats what ye thought until he saw your body hanging from a tree lifeless and a tear stained face
“Darling..Oh my sweet sweet darling.. Im so sorry”
Nahida
•She first found out by reading a book, the looks, features.. hair, smile, hands, body all looked the same
•So of course she didnt jump to conclusions and she asked you first you saying you didnt know gave her peace
•She kept that a secret so no one else could harm you but she also reads your mind from time to time but there isnt any indication that you remember anything
“Its ok Dear! Im not mad!”
(Finished!! Hope you enjoyed!)

Wander
Platonic!Yandere Wanderer x Reader (GN)
Summary: It wasn't just his mother who betrayed him fairly early on in his life, it was also his sibling - the only person he had been close to at that point in his life. At least that was what he thought. But once he had changed into the wanderer, some new information came to the light...
! Minors Do Not Interact !
TW: Probably not canon compliant with Wanderer's backstory since I don't have his character (sadly), Lumine is the Traveller in this one, kidnapping, dark content, obsession, kind of dying (but like not really), I do not condone this - this is all fantasy
As the story is told the archon of Inazuma, Goddess of Eternity, created a puppet which later became the feared Fatui Scaramouche - but that story isn't quite complete. One fateful fact that the story omitted was that the 'betrayed' puppet wasn't the Raiden's first attempt. Before him, she had breathed life into her very first puppet, a prototype of sorts, which had many faults from which the archon learnt. With the knowledge gained from them, she successfully created the wanderer and later the puppet she still uses to this day.
After his creation, the wanderer was left in the care of his predecessor as the archon attended to her duties and the two grew close due to their shared nature. In fact, the wanded soon realized that his sibling - as humans would probably call them - meant more to him than anything else in the world and he looked forward to spending eternity together with them and their mother. But Destiny had something else planned for him.
And so the story continued, but it wasn't just his mother who betrayed him, no his sibling stood by her side when he was cast out, ignoring his pleas to come with him, to stay by his side. So all throughout his travels, through joining the Fatui, through trying to achieve Godhood, his anger at those he had considered family stayed constant. He had to admit to himself that somewhere very deep inside of him he still felt a longing to be by his sibling's side and even though he would never admit it, he knew that once he'd become the god he was always meant to be he would give them another chance. A chance to leave behind the woman who had created them to join him, to stand by his side as they were always meant to.
While during his time as a Fatui, the wanderer heard many things about Raiden through the many spies in Inazuma or just general news, he never heard any news about his sibling, not even from the most dedicated spies. And so their fate eluded him which was the reason that after his defeat by Lumine and Nahida, and after he changed into who he was now - the wanderer, looking for a new purpose - he was especially curious when Paimon started talking about Inazuma and local affairs.
Especially when you were mentioned. His sibling. The person who had not left his mind for the entire time he had been gone. And what he heard Paimon say changed everything for him.
"We met up with Ei recently - I hope you don't mind us talking about her, we know you're still bitter about that whole deal - and she brought one of her puppets along. They kind of reminded Paimon of you, they didn't look like the Shogun at all and they had their own personality, just like you. I think Ei said their name was Y/N-" Paimon rambled on, Lumine walking beside them, used to Paimon's constant chattering by now and not needing to pay much attention anymore. Usually at the first mention of his mother, Wanderer would have interrupted her snarkily to stop her talking, but at the slight chance of hearing news of you, he had to let her keep talking, "-They were really, really nice. They even told us about when they were made. Paimon wonders if that's similar to how you were made."
Paimon did not wait for him to respond, instead happily continuing talking the aspect of not being interrupted for once: "What did they say again? Oh, yes, they were also made to hold the Shogun's Gnosis, but they weren't strong enough, Ei said that she gave them consciousness so that they could help care for future Puppets. So they even took care of you, right?" Wanderer didn't bother replying, instead working through the fact he had just heard. His mother had given you consciousness? Somehow he had always assumed you were just like him, that you had gained consciousness when your mother had attempted to place her gnosis in you.
"Oh well, seems like they grew on the shogun because even after they made their successful puppet they kept them around. It's all the better for it though, knowing what would happen when Ei'd leave them behind," Paimon sighed and for the first time, Wanderer intercepted.
"What do you mean? What would happen?"
"You don't know?" Paimon looked at him surprised, she must've expected him to know all about your time before he was made, "Because Ei was the one who gave them life, she also became the source of their life, if they ever leave Ei's surroundings, they'll turn back into a puppet. At least that's what Y/N told us, but they're so nice, I don't think they'd lie."
That changed everything for the Wanderer. If what the little flying Imp was saying was true, then you had never betrayed him. You had no choice. You were bound to your mother, unable to leave even if you wanted to - which you must have. Suddenly his life had a new meaning. He'd free you, so that you'd finally be able to spend eternity by his side, under his protection. You'd finally be siblings again, just like you were always meant to.
Without giving any care for his companions, Wanderer took off in a different direction. More specifically, the direction of Sumeru's harbour. He'd do whatever he had to to get to you, to free you, to save you. He stole a boat - may or may not hurting the owner in the process - and made his way towards his old home, a place he had sworn only to return to once he had become a god, but now there were new priorities in place. He still knew many secret spots surrounding the Archon's home and luckily for him, given his mother's personality, not a lot had changed in the past years.
It was easy for him to secretly make his way into the chambers you and him had shared after your creation - it was only now that he realized that the reason you had shared was that Ei hadn't bothered to give you your own since you were already a failure in her eyes. And what a sight to behold he found there, you were sitting in the window nook you had already loved when he had still lived there, reading a book. You hadn't changed at all, time had not touched you.
As he stepped closer, a shadow was cast over you that made you look up. Your eyes widened, but he saw the happiness in them. Had you missed him as much as he had missed you?
"You're back!" you shouted happily as you jumped up and ran towards him, embracing him in a hug that he gladly reciprocated. Oh, how he'd missed that - but now he'd never have to go without this happiness again. But as quick as the happiness had set in, it diminished when you turned back and looked at him worriedly. "You-You can't be here, Mother will- She can't know you're here, you have to leave."
Anger built up in him - of course, even when he was here to save you, his mother had to make things difficult for him. But he wouldn't let her ruin this, not as long as he had to fight for you.
"She will never find out, we will leave right now and we'll be off this island before she'll be any wiser. Don't worry," he told you to calm you down as he took your hand in his and pulled you with him - he was always the stronger of you (for reasons that were now obvious) so even though you tried to get him to stop, he just pulled you harder.
"We? I can't leave Inazuma, I need to be close to Mother," you tried to reason with him, but he just shook his head and disagreed with you. "She only makes you believe that, you don't need her, I can be your new source of life, we only need each other."
"But that's not how this works-" you tried again, but then there were guards shouting and running after the two of you. But because of your resistance, you were slower than usual - if it kept on like that, they'd catch up to you and you knew that if they were to try to capture your brother, something horrible would happen - either to him or to them - and you couldn't allow that to happen. So, even though you knew that it would mean your end, you took up the pace and ran along with Wanderer.
The two of you quickly arrived at his boat and he hoisted you into it before using his vision to bring quite some distance between the boat and the shore. He didn't notice you sitting on the other side of the boat looking back at the island with a sad kind of desperation. You knew that your life would end any second now, but you didn't mind all that much, after all, you had already extended the span of life you should have had. And now your life would end protecting someone you love, so you could die without any regrets.
"Brother, I want you to know that what will happen now isn't your fault, nor is it Mothers. Please, just be free, live your life in peace, and be happy," you called out to him, causing him to turn to you in confusion. He wanted to ask what you meant, but before the word could leave his lips, your body fell limp. Quickly, he rushed towards you, hoping you had just fallen unconscious, but as he turned your body to lie in his lap, he realized that the worst had come to pass. What he turned wasn't his sibling, it was a puppet of wood and wires. Gone was the animation in your face or the faux skin on your body, instead it was all just wood and paint. A puppet.
As Inazuma disappeared behind the horizon, he found a new reason for his existence. You had asked him to be happy, but how could he ever be happy if you weren't by his side? He'd move Celestia and the abyss if he had to, would make deals with whatever creature was out there and willing to help, if all else failed he would even return to his mother - everything to bring you back...

Cremate me in your arms
King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna x afab! brown reader
Too much confidence and simping has led to this second part. And I hope to do it justice. The following fic features an established relationship so to understand the dynamics and origins, find the first part here.
Minors, DNI. Word count: 4k
CW: generalized themes of death, murder and the likes, established relationship, dub-con, sex with Sukuna's true form, breast play, PIV, creampie, oral (m! receiving), mutual orgasms, worship, devotion, insecurity, jealousy, arguments, breeding kink, pregnancy, major character death, mention of sati (the ancient Hindu ritual of the very alive, and likely young, wife walking into the funeral pyre of her dead husband)
it gets really dark and angsty towards the end; i'm sorry
King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna who is astounded by how well you take his true form. He stuffs you with one of his cocks while the other slides along your puffy lips. He holds your breasts in two hands, toying with your pebbled nipples, while the other two keep your body in place as he rams into you. He loves your fluttery kisses, the way you grab on to his beyond broad shoulders, struggle to keep your head from lolling, back arching. He has a devilish grin on his face and abs as he empties his heavy tight sacks inside you. Again and again.
Now that he has seen your face at the height of your pleasure, he wants it no other way. He doesn't need a surface anymore, he carries you around as he fucks. And you don't complain. You'll take him as he presents himself to you, human form or curse. You're his to have. But is he yours?
King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna who makes you look at him in front of Uraume-hime, because he knows you're insecure about them. Although, he does get a kick out of when he summons you to his chambers after locking himself in with the Oiran for hours. How needy you become. How territorial. And he pretends he didn't hear your soft pacing outside his doors only moments before, didn't see your shadow pass over the patio. They don't do anything that'd challenge your relationship with your Ryo-sama. In fact, most of the time, he makes Uraume do their books in his chambers just to see your flushed face afterward, your impatient grinding against his bulge, your willingness to take him in your mouth even though you choke every time you try.
King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna who is luminous with bliss about his playful belle. You are ticklish on your tummy and he makes avid use of that when waking you up in the mornings. His extra mouth licks around, dipping occasionally into your belly button, making you laugh and squirm.
"What is this mouth for, Ryo-sama?" You ask once, feeding it potato fritters you had made that evening.
"It's to eat you out a second time when this mouth is tired." Ryo-sama is goofy now. You're no more scared of him like you used to be.
"Ryo-sama!" You've even been given the liberty to rebuke him every now and then, and you take full advantage of it.
He laughs. "It's my mouth, Paro." He points to his face. "This mouth is my brother's. Everything about me that's remotely human is my brother. The monster is the real me."
"Brother?" You've never heard of one before.
"Yes, my love. The brother I ate in my mother's womb. You see, I was supposed to be one of twins but when they pulled me out, I was covered in blood. My mother's, of course, and that of my brother. He reincarnated when I changed, finally enacting his revenge and locking me in this unsightly form."
You drop the chopsticks from your hand, and lean into his frame to kiss his mouth, the one on his stomach. Then, rise to kiss the un-human part of his face, the skin rough to your lips but it doesn't matter to you. To you, it's an act of reverence. He closes all his eyes and you place pecks on the lids of the ones he calls monstrous. "You're the most beautiful man I've ever seen."
Ryo-sama laughs, his whole body shaking. He rests one hand on your shoulder while two others pull you down on him. "That's because, for some inexplicable reason, you're in love with me."
King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna who whole-heartedly supports your new project. It strokes his ego when you show your excitement about your new religion with him as the God. Cult, to be completely honest. Regardless, you've painted him, the form you most wish to worship. Where you see a benevolent guardian deity, he sees a grotesque monster. Really, beauty must be in the eyes of the lover.
"What do you want from me, Paro?" He asks one day, smoking opium from his pipe, blowing it out of the open window. You are writing an essay in Hiragana for your tutor to go over later. Your handwriting has improved a lot; even Ryo-sama acknowledges so. When you look up at him questioning, he sighs. "You know, if you want to leave, I won't stop you, right? I could never bring myself to harm you."
"Why would I leave, my Lord? I want to be by your side. Do you not want me here?"
"I have used your body for my own pleasure since your first day here, demanded that you learn a language to better my experience in the bedroom. I have been miserable to you for several weeks before suddenly springing a confession and my true form upon you. Putting up with me must be exhausting. And yet, you stay. There must be something you want. Fame, protection, wealth, what is it? Tell me. I promise I won't be disappointed."
You're speechless. For as long as you've been with Sukuna-sama, this is the first time his words have hurt you. "You doubt my devotion, my Lord." Your eyes water as you try very hard to keep looking at him. But you can't, so you concentrate on the wavering shadow on the wall behind him. The tears fall anyway.
"Paro, that's not... Please don't..."
Your writing equipment clatters as you get on your feet, running out of his room. The ink spills, seeps into the silk of your sitting mat.
King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna who would kill for you, burn the world for you, and he knows better to do it behind your back because you shouldn't have to deal with the guilt. So he crushes the heads of mortals who speak ill of you, choke to death those who plot to maim you, and put your life in danger. Uraume-hime may not be too fond of you but they're loyal to Sukuna-sama and will execute his orders with precision; they keep an eye out for you, sneer at you when you look their way but protect you nonetheless.
When Ryo-sama finds you that night, you've already been in your bath for far too long. Your skin has pruned, your eyes are red-rimmed from all the crying; your newly appointed lady-in-waiting has requested you to come out several times lest you catch a cold but you've paid her no attention. You want to catch a cold, you want to suffer. If Ryo-sama wants you to leave, then you'll go away for good.
"Kiero." He orders the woman before settling himself beside your tub. Resting his arms and chin on the edge, he looks at you but doesn't say anything. You don't either; you only sniffle and wipe your tears and snot away with the back of your hand.
"Can I get a few days' time to find a job elsewhere before I have to leave?"
"No."
Your exhales are shaky. "In the morning then, Sukuna-sama."
"Sukuna-sama? Is that how mad you are at me?" He holds your face in his hand. You want to flinch, turn away, deny him any touch but you crave for his skin too. If you are to leave in the morning, you will never have it again so you might as well let him take you one last time.
"Who am I to be mad at you? I should have known this was going to happen."
"What should you have known?"
"That you'll lose interest in me. I'm not strong, after all. I don't have Uraume-hime's curse techniques. I'm just a puny, filthy—"
He sits up, offering his lips to you but you don't give in. "I don't want you to leave." If he really doesn't have a heart, what is this tightening around his chest? What is this fear?
"But if I do leave, you won't stop me. That's how unimportant I am to you. That's how disposable."
"I lied. I won't know left from right if I lose you. I have a plan for when, and if ever, you try to leave. It's from that story you told me about your Goddess of Destruction." He smiles against your lips. "I will lie down on the ground, in front of you, like her husband did. And you can't step on or over me, so you won't leave."
"I'll turn and walk in a different direction." You know your heart is softening. You're putty in Ryo-sama's hands, under his manipulations.
"I'll stop you, Paro. I'll change positions, get up and lie down in different spots every time you turn. Can I kiss you now?" His lips are so close but you must hold your ground.
"What about when I die?" You've always known he'll outlive you, and that's the dream of every devoted lover, is it not? But there's another dream you have. You don't want to leave him completely alone when you die. You know he's too strong and doesn't really need anybody, but that doesn't mean he has to be lonely.
Sukuna-sama sits back. There's not a day when he doesn't think about this, when he doesn't shudder just from the thought of seeing your lifeless body, your once beautiful face cold and pale from having your breath snatched from your lungs. The only answer that he comes up with is to use his Reverse Jujutsu and revive you but how many times can he do that? He is stuck in an invulnerable form but you will eventually be too old and frail to want to live any longer. "Whatever you want, Paro. I can bring you back, or let you rest."
You pretend to toy with a thought while he stares at your face. You've had an idea for quite some time. Back home, you'd have had to step into the blazing funeral pyre of your dead husband. But what can you do if he's an undying God? "Fire doesn't harm you, my Lord?" You know the answer, but you still ask to confirm. He shakes his head, wondering where you're going with this. "Cremate me in your arms then, Ryo-sama. I don't want a pyre; I want to be in your arms when I die."
King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna who comforts you, holds your shaking body with all his arms and rocks you when you cry for your mother. Unbeknownst to you, he has sent many of his people — curses and curse users alike — to the brothel in Bengal you had mentioned your mother worked at. But to no avail. He never told you this and doesn't plan to, ever, unless he actually finds your mother. You shouldn't have to know that your fears of never seeing her again might be true.
King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna who knows no real God would ever listen to him. Still, he whispers a soft "Kami-sama" in your name every morning. He doesn't need a God to protect you but why risk it? Your new project has harbored a lot of attention, and not only the good kind. It makes him worry about your safety. He sends two of his most notorious curse-users with you every time you step out of his palace. He throws a fit every time he notices you're dressing for grocery shopping or to go oversee the building of his shrine. He can always send someone else, why do you need to go?
He impatiently paces the yard when you're on one of your trips until he hears the slow drag of the heavy front door, and your cheerful chattering with the guards. How you maintain your optimism and enthusiasm even while living with the epitome of negativity is beyond him. He needs you for this, to clear the smoke of his desolation, the stillness of his immortality.
"Ryo-sama." You walk up to him. "There was good cow meat in the market. What kind of curry would you like, my Lord?"
"You don't have to cook cow for me, my love. Aren't they your God's pets?"
"Yes, my Lord, but for you—"
"It's decided then. We won't consume cows in this household anymore."
You smile wryly. "After I die then."
You have been speaking of your death every so often, to the point where Sukuna-sama has had to summon the medic that he calls a quack several times over a month to evaluate your physical health. And every time, the charlatan has informed him that you're perfectly healthy. So he's decided that every time you say something about dying, he will medicate you in his own way.
He seizes your wrist and pulls you to his bedchamber. He strips you down to your breast band and loincloth. He transforms because he knows you enjoy having him touch you with so many arms that it feels like he's consuming you. But then you say something that makes him stop in his tracks. "Is there something wrong with me, Ryo-sama?"
"Did somebody say something to you?" His voice goes cold. You shake your head but refuse to meet his eyes. "Tell me the bastard's name and I'll send them a nice present."
"It's nobody, my Lord. Just me."
"What's wrong?" He tilts your face upward. He sounds demanding.
"It's... It's been over a year since... since you've first been with me, my Lord. And yet..." Your voice quivers, tears starting to gather on the cusp of your eyelid. "And yet, every month... on the night of the waxing gibbous, I bleed. Why can't I give you a child? What's wrong with me?"
King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna who is bothered by nothing. He's squashed many an eyesore under his thumb. Nothing gives him the ick, except for the water pooling in your eyes. This is the second time he's made you cry and he hates himself for it. For, it's not you who's wrong, inadequate, unfit to have a child. It's him. He's been so afraid of harming you with his cursed essence, he's been manipulating it so as to not impregnate you with a cursed womb.
"We're different, my dear." He tries again. "It's not that there's something wrong with you. It's our union that won't bear a healthy child."
Your heart breaks. Even though you try to hide it, Sukuna-sama sees it on your face. "I see, my Lord. I guess I was worrying for nothing." You put a smile on your face but it doesn't stay. With every passing day, you grow sadder. He notices it in your destitute of smiles, your limp enthusiasm in his arms, your shaky silhouette after he puts you to sleep.
King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna who never, not even during his human life, wanted for a family, but your words have moved him. For a few years of his eternity, he can see himself being a loving father, and a doting husband. So this time, he approaches you.
"Paro." He pulls you to him one night as you two are resting after dinner. You have been fixated on making an army of origami swans but when he seeks your attention, you give it to him easily. You drop your half-folded swan and he springs the question on you. "Will you be my bride?"
You say, yes, because there's no reason to lie.
The ceremony is chaste. You follow rituals of both your cultures. When flakes of his sindoor fall on your nose, you smile. He already loves you; you don't need more proof.
His chambers have been extended to accommodate you and when you get to your bedroom, you notice the flower petals on the sheets, just like you had once told him happens back home. Sukuna-sama takes you by the hand and makes you sit on the bed. He kneels in front of you, like he had the first time he had shown you his reality. By the warmth on his usually hardened face, it's clear he has something to tell you. "Paro," he whispers, "do you still want to have my child?" Again, there's no reason to lie. "It might hurt you, my love."
"I can take it, Ryo-sama." You take his hand. "I... I've seen women in the throes of labor. I can endure that."
"It won't be the labor of a human birth, my love. Or have you forgotten who your Ryo-sama is? It's true that the heart I don't have in me is compensated by the kindness of your spirit but our child will be a monster at its very core."
"You and I will raise them right, my Lord."
King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna who has never been soft in bed but for you and for the child you wish to bear, he is willing to change his ways. He envelopes you with kisses, keeps your hips lifted with a pillow beneath your rear. He whispers your name and you whisper his. You touch his arms, his strong, protective arms, his chest, the heart behind it that only you've seen, his waist thrusting into you so lovingly. "Harder, Ryo-sama." You're aching for him, for the warmth of his seed. "Harder, please." He increases his pace, buries his face in your neck, groans as he releases inside you. He has done this before, every time, but this feels different, it feels fruitful.
King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna who expects himself to keep his calm always. But when you tell him you haven't bled in two moons, he is beside himself with joy. He picks you up in his arms and twirls you, wants to run out and tell the whole world what a miracle you are. But he knows nobody would rejoice in the news of him furthering his lineage. Only you. And that's enough for him.
As the months pass and you grow heavier, his happiness only increases. He makes everything perfect for you, caters to your every need and want. He tends to the ache in your back, relieves the soreness in your breasts, even massages your feet. But he notices changes in your mien. You spend longer outside of home. He knows you're in the new temple but what you do behind the closed doors of the shrine, nobody can tell him. Not even the guards he sends with you. When he asks you, you only shrug and tell him that you've been praying. He knows you have an idol of your God situated in the same chambers as the idol of him and there's also a priest you’ve met recently, so he doesn’t question it anymore.
But when you decide to walk out the night you’re supposed to deliver, he panics. “Where are you going?” He calls out as you’re about to step out of your room. “Shouldn’t you be getting ready to go into the labor room? I’ve arranged for midwives from your home, priests to handle any rituals you want to partake in and yet… It feels as if you have other plans.”
“I’m only going to pray, Ryo-sama.” You drape a robe over your bump.
“Pray here. I’ll send Uraume to get your God.”
“No.” You lose your usual softness. “I’ll only be gone for an hour or so.”
“And what if your liquor breaks in that one hour?”
“The priest will help me.”
“The priest you don’t allow anyone to meet?” He is losing his calm too.
“I’ve told you the reason, haven’t I? It'll be futile meeting the priest who's supposed to carry out rituals in your name.”
He is exasperated. He shouldn’t have let you have this much power over him. “At least let me come with you. I’ll wait outside.”
“That doesn’t look good for the King of Curses, my Lord.”
“Who’s going to tell me that?”
“I will. The mother of your child. Please, my Lord, I beg of you. I know the labor will be easier if I just spend some time with my God alone.”
King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna who knew love is worthless. Then why did he ever let himself love you? Why did he give in to your wishes? Why did he not force your hand when you acted against his orders? Why did he let you be the only human who could make him kneel?
When the hour is up and you’ve not returned, he storms out of his palace, trident in hand. If he has to threaten you for you to come back to him, he will. But he doesn’t get the chance to. When he reaches the steps of the shrine, the dread in his chest rises to his ears, ringing like bells of a temple in the storm. The establishment is in ruins, the guards who were with you had been slashed through their necks so brutally, their heads had tossed away from the rest of their bodies. He rushes up the stairs, trips. His weapon falls from his hand when he looks inside. The walls have been painted with blood. He can tell it’s your blood from the scent. A terror-stricken groan rises from his throat. His chest is even more hollow now.
“Paro.” He finds your mangled body up against the wall furthest from the door and scoops you up in his arms. “Paro. My love. My heart. My miracle.” He cries out. Long gone is the King of Curses; these are the desperate howls of a grieving husband. “Who… who did this?”
There’s some life left in you. And even if there isn’t, he is more than willing to bring you back. Not only because you must live, but also because they who did this to you, must die. And he will do it, he will go to the ends of this world and the next, and find the lowlife who dared to touch his Paro, the love of his immortality, his Queen of Blessings.
He touches your chest to revive you but you seize his wrist. “Ryo-sama.” You gurgle up through the seas of blood in your throat. He leans into you to let you touch his face, rub away his tears like you have removed the darkness from his soul. You manage a smile at the end of your breath. “You were right, Ryo-sama. I birthed a monster. But... he's still... my son.”
“Who did this to you? The brat?”
You slowly shake your head. “I was… so blind, so foolish. The… the priest. He was… after our son. Promise me… Ryo-sama. You will avenge… me. You… will… protect our son… for me.”
“Avenge you, I will. But right now, I’m bringing you back.”
“No.” You cough up, splattering blood across his face. “I’m… your weakness.”
“No, no–” You shush him with a hand over his lips.
“I am… your weakness. I am your disease. Let me go… and become what you must. For Yuji.”
“Yuji?”
“Our… son. Find him… please… and protect him. Make him… a little human. The priest…” You cough again, clutching the robe at your empty womb. “He had… stitches… across his forehead.”
Sukuna-sama knew him, the curse with stitches on his forehead. He will find him and kill him, even if it takes him a thousand years.
“You… promised me… one more thing… Ryo-sama.”
His eyes water at your request, the bloody smile on your lips he knows will haunt him for all of eternity. Love is worthless but you are not. You’ve taught him hope, you’ve shown him kindness, the selfless love that he knew was not for him to have. You’ve proved to him that to love and be loved is to change. “Must I?” He asks and you nod. He loses to you. Once again.
“I love you. I’ve loved you before I knew you, and I will love you after you’re gone. I will find you if you’re ever reborn but I will pray to any God that listens to me that they don’t send you here again. This world doesn’t deserve you. And I will punish them for it. Sleep well, my love.” He kisses your forehead.
King of Curses Ryomen Sukuna, feared by all, respected by some but loved by one. His atrocities are well-known, written and spoken about through ages. Even years later, people remember the villages he burned that night, the blaze crimson red like the petals of spider-lilies, the screams of the people louder than the crackling of the fire. He did that out of mindless rage, everyone says. They are wrong. He did that out of love.

Bewitch You In The Moonlight
Pairing: Cardinal Copia x Reader (fem)
Category: idk
Summary: You encounter a likeminded soul during a sleepless night.
Warnings: insomnia, awkward conversations, swearing/cursing, Copia is a nerd, reader is also a nerd, you’re both lonely and find comfort in each other basically
Word count: 4.6k
A/N: Oh, to have a Copia to spend sleepless nights with. This is currently planned to be a series (but works as a standalone for now!) and is just a big excuse for me to write Copia as the nerdy, dorky, sexy, old man that he is. It’s pretty self indulgent but I hope that others can enjoy it too. Title from… an obvious source ;)
Consider buying me a coffee :)
The moonlight was irritating.
Despite being a lover of the night, and the luminous natural satellite that orbited the sky, you couldn't help but find yourself angry at the moon. The fucking moon.
You weren't naturally the easiest person to fall asleep anyway, often finding yourself tossing and turning for hours on end. But since being relocated to a new room, the problem had only gotten worse. The position of your new room meant that the moon shone directly through the window and illuminated your whole bedroom. Even when you closed the curtains, going so far as to tape the edges to the wall at one point, the light still managed to find a way to break through the cracks.
Staring at the silvery gleam reflecting off of the floor, you bit back the tears that were stinging in the back of your eyes and threatening to make your throat close up. You had an early class in the morning, Primo was starting lessons on botany. You were excited, finding something new to study. But you were tired. So tired. And not a wink of sleep was coming to you.
Throwing back the blankets, you swung yourself out of bed and marched over to your bookshelf. Maybe a chapter or two would help you sleep. Scanning the titles, you found that none of them were grabbing you and you held back a scream of frustration. What were you supposed to do?
Pacing around your room for a moment, you thought about what you could do. A late night stroll was the first thing to come to mind. And perhaps to the library. To pick up a new, more attention grabbing book. Maybe one on botany to get a head start on Primo's classes. Yes, that was exactly what you were going to do.
Slipping on a pair of fuzzy socks to keep your feet warm, you reached for your phone. To find that it was dead. Why hadn't you charged it before getting into bed? You sighed and considered what else could be your light source to guide your path. Your eyes drifted towards a candle that someone had gifted you upon your arrival at the abbey. It was meant to be a joke about the building and its grounds looking old and gothic so outsiders assumed it had no electricity. They were very wrong. But the candle was charming. It sat in a brass holder with a handle. Just like something straight out of a Dickens novel.
You sighed before plucking it from its resting place, never having been lit, and rummaged through a drawer to find some matches. Once you'd acquired those, you ignited the candle and tiptoed to your door. You didn't know exactly why you were being quiet. It wasn't against any rules to be out of bed at this time but you also didn't want to wake anyone else in the same dormitory wing as you. You did know the grievances of losing sleep after all.
You padded along the corridor, glad it was a fairly warm night as you hadn't thought to bring an extra layer to cover the garments you'd chosen to sleep in, with your arm extended out in front of you so the candle could light the way. You'd been right in assuming that all lights in the abbey would be off. It was approaching almost two in the morning.
You weaved through the hallways, knowing the blueprints of the place like the back of your hand, and trotted up and down flights of stairs. Another annoying feature of your new room was that it was farther away from the library than the previous one. You were starting to wonder whether you could put a request in to be moved back.
You started humming a low tune to yourself, something you'd heard on the radio a few days prior, to keep yourself company on the long walk. You weren't scared of the empty abbey exactly, knowing there were hundreds of people sound asleep just through all the sets of doors you'd passed, but you couldn't deny that the darkness and silence was a little spooky.
That spookiness only upped itself when you rounded a corner and were met with a bellowing shriek. You jumped back from the noise, or technically the person it emanated from.
"Sathanas!" The figure gasped, followed by a string of mumbled Italian.
You raised your candle slowly to illuminate their face, surprised by who you had come in contact with. "Cardinal?"
"Sì, sì." He mumbled, not looking at you as he pressed a hand to his chest to calm himself down. He was wearing a matching set of pyjamas, buttons up the middle, a deep red shade with a pattern of grey and brown... were those rats? Upon slightly closer inspection you found that they were indeed rats.
"I like your..." You gestured vaguely at your own pyjamas before pointing at his.
The Cardinal looked surprised as he glanced down at his attire. "Oh, my jammies? Thank you."
"You like rats?" You asked, hoping to get him to relax a little as his breathing was still laboured.
"I love rats!" He exclaimed, immediately shushing himself. "Eh, yes, I like rats."
You smiled at him. "What about rats do you love?"
"Lots of things. They are small. They like cheese. They squeak when they are happy. Very nice little creatures, hehe." He chuckled at his own description, his eyes crinkling in the corners.
You nodded at him, liking the simplicity of his answer. "I'm sorry for scaring you, Cardinal."
"Oh no, it is fine." He shook his head at the memory of the way he'd screamed at you. "Not your fault. This place gives me the heebie jeebies at night."
"Yeah, it is a little creepy." You added on, not voicing your question of why on earth he was a Satanic Cardinal if he couldn't even handle the dark... you figured everybody had layers. That's when you noticed he wasn't carrying any sort of light source. "Cardinal, were you walking around in complete darkness?"
"Uh, no." He sighed. "I thought the moonlight would guide me further. But then I got here. And have been stuck for ten minutes. Walking in circles, I think."
"Oh." You coughed to hide a laugh. "Well, where were you headed? I can get you there if you want."
He looked briefly at your candle, recognising it as the initiation gift of the siblings. "The library."
"Me too." You sent him an easy smile, relieved that you wouldn't have to divert your journey at all.
The two of you walked in silence for a few moments, the only sound being the wind outside, as you questioned whether it was okay for you to ask him why he was still awake.
Luckily, he answered that query for you. "So, why are you going to the library so late at night?"
"I could ask you the same." You retorted with a smirk. "Bit of an insomniac."
"Ah, I see." He nodded in understanding. "Me too sometimes."
"Is that why you're awake tonight?" You asked.
"Sì. Sleep just would not come to me." He paused and inhaled deeply. "Forgive me, sorella, but you are going to have to remind me of your name."
You smiled and introduced yourself, not the least bit surprised nor offended he couldn't remember your name. You'd only crossed paths on a few occasions and you were sure the Cardinal met a lot of people every day.
"Ah, I think I remember you from that course on rituals I conducted last year. Correct?"
Your eyebrows shot up in shock. "Uh, yeah. Yeah, I took that course."
He hummed. "Mm, you were very eager to learn."
You averted your eyes away from him, embarrassed. "I have a thirst for knowledge, you could say."
"That is a good thing, no?" He wondered and you shrugged. "What other classes have you taken?"
"A few." You replied, not entirely untrue but maybe a little understated since you would take any class you could get your hands on. "I'm starting the botany one tomorrow. Well, today I guess."
"With Primo?" He asked and you nodded. "It will be fascinating, I'm sure."
"I hope so. Even if it's not then he'll be a good teacher. He loves plants." You mumbled, thoughts straying to the gardens that were so meticulously looked after by the retired Papa. "Hey, you should teach a class on rats."
Copia chuckled. "I do not think there would be much interest in that, sorella."
"Maybe a class on small mammal species then?" You offered. "I'm sure there are plenty of amateur zoologists in this place."
He smiled at you. "Would you attend?"
"Only if you promise to do a section on moles." You nodded. "I love those little fuckers."
The Cardinal snorted out a laugh. "Okay, I will take it up with the clergy."
"I look forward to it."
The two of you quickly approached the doors to the library where Copia produced a key from a seemingly invisible pocket to unlock them.
"I didn't even consider it being locked." You whispered, realising that bumping into him had definitely been beneficial.
Copia huffed. "Sì. As much as we encourage sinning, we have some rare editions in here that we do not need siblings to get their hands on in the midst of partying."
"Makes sense." You stepped closer to him to give him more light from the candle to which he thanked you. It was then that you noticed that he was wearing the leather gloves that always adorned his hands during the daytime. Strange that he would also wear them at night. But you weren't going to judge him for it, or even comment on it. "Cardinal-"
"Copia, per favore." He corrected, not taking his eyes off where he was struggling to get the library doors unlocked.
"Copia-" You rolled the name around on your tongue, liking the way it tasted. "-is it okay for me to be in the library at this hour?"
"Of course, sorella-"
You cut him off with your own name to which he glanced at you with a smile.
"I give you full permission. It is the least I can do since you rescued me from the darkness, eh?"
"I suppose." You muttered. "I just don't want you to get in trouble for letting a sister wreak havoc on the library in the middle of the night."
He stood up, as if he were giving up on unlocking the door, and gave you a mirthful look. "What exactly are you planning on doing with these books?"
You relented with a slump of your shoulders. "Read them."
He shrugged. "See? No havoc. Just reading."
"Would you like me to try?" You offered out your hand, palm up, to take the key from him.
"Ah! Sì, sì!" He sounded grateful that he didn't even have to ask you, handing the key over in exchange for the candle.
You shuffled past him and bent down, sliding the key into the lock and turning it until it clicked. "There we go."
"Thank you. Sometimes my gloves make it difficult." He sighed as you pushed the door open.
You smiled, curious as to what the deal with the gloves was. Maybe he had an issue with dirt. You decided to just be lighthearted about it. "The price of fashion. Beauty is pain they say."
He looked momentarily surprised by that statement, a pool of red rushing to his cheeks. Or maybe it was a trick of the light. "Uh, yes. They do say."
You bit back a grin at the prospect of making him flustered, he really was a sweet man, and tilted your head in the direction of the library. "Lead the way, Cardinal."
"Copia." He groaned but walked into the library first anyway, candle held out in front of him. "What book were you looking for, sorella?"
You followed him, noting that he'd gone back to calling you sister in response and closed the door behind the two of you. "Initially I was going to read up on some botany. But now I've got the urge to read about rodents."
He perked up and turned quickly to face you again, candle tilting dangerously in the holder at his rapid movement. "I can recommend some books on rodents."
You reached out to steady the candle before it dripped molten wax all over the floor, fingertips brushing against leather as you pulled away. "That sounds lovely, Copia."
He grinned at you and turned away again, walking more eagerly towards the stacks. You rushed to keep up as he started murmuring something about which book would be best for beginners, colliding with his back as he suddenly stopped.
"Sorry." You grunted, rubbing your forehead as you stumbled backwards.
The candle was abandoned on an empty shelf, safely out of the way of any books, and his gloved hands were hovering over you before you even had the chance to blink.
"No, I am sorry. I shouldn't have just stopped. I am an idiot, sì? Please forgive me. Are you okay?" He rambled, eyes wide with panic.
"Yeah, I'm okay." You laughed. "You were just wrapped up in the moment thinking about rats. I get it."
Copia's face dropped in embarrassment. "It is a problem."
"No, I think it's nice that you're so passionate. I get like that when I have something new to learn about." You sent him a reassuring smile. "Besides, you were thinking about books to recommend to me. If anything, it's my fault."
He was stood so close, barely a couple of inches away, that it gave you an opportunity to take him in. Like, really take him in. You'd never been in such close contact before. He sat at the front during mass, you had to sit with the rest of the siblings further back. Any time he conducted anything he would be stood at the head of the room, obviously, and you'd be one of the audience. It felt strange being so near to him.
You knew his eyes were mismatched, it was the gossip of the century when he'd first come to the abbey since nobody had failed to realise how it was similar to the mismatching eyes of the Emeritus line, but you'd never noticed that the darker eye was a gorgeous shade of green before. He also had smile lines, both around his mouth and crinkling the edges of his beautiful eyes. The greys in his hair, which you had always taken notice of, now only stood out more in the flickering candlelight. And where his mouth was hanging slightly open in concern you could see that his bottom row of teeth were crooked.
Realising that you were staring at his mouth, you looked away from him, to somewhere over his shoulder, before you said something you'd regret.
"Don't blame yourself." He said lowly, grabbing the candle off the shelf again as he tilted his head backwards. "Come. The good books on rodents are this way."
You nodded silently and just started following him again. His pace was slower this time, careful not to rush or cause another crash with you. After another minute or so of walking, he rounded a corner and stopped.
"I had the librarian rearrange the stacks so the books about rats were put here instead." He explained as you took in the little nook you'd never seen before.
It was hidden towards the back of the library, dark, with a single small window to provide some evidence of outside life. There sat a set of comfortable looking chairs and a coffee table. It was cosy looking. However, there was no discernible light source. No lamp, no overhead light, nothing with electricity.
"It's nice." You croaked, imagining Copia hidden away here for hours on end. Nothing to keep him company apart from a good book. "I can see why you had the librarian rearrange."
He sent you a small smile before walking over to a couple of sconces on the wall. You squinted and noticed that they held candles. The tug in your chest was unmistakable. You knew Copia didn't have many, if any, friends so the idea that he'd brought you here was flattering.
The hem of his pyjama shirt lifted as he lit the first candle, exposing a stretch of his abdomen. You looked away out of respect. But the glimpse of soft tummy and dark hair had your eyes straying back towards him again. Once you'd locked on to his happy trail, hair trailing both below his waistline and up into what you assumed to blossom into a good amount of chest hair, you couldn't pull away again.
You felt butterflies in your lower stomach, your mouth almost salivating at the sight. It was then you decided to do some research on insomnia to see if the lack of sleep could cause delirium that made your libido skyrocket. Because suddenly wanting to lick your Cardinal's stomach probably wasn't normal behaviour. Although sinning was encouraged...
You were snapped out of your thoughts by Copia giving a small cheer as he managed to light one of the candles. Watching with a new sense of fondness for the man as he attempted to the light the second candle, you decided that you were adamant on becoming his friend. The both of you could probably use a friend. You were making assumptions about him but you could recognise loneliness from a mile away. He was slightly too keen to share his favourite books with you, a little too cautious when it came to potentially doing something wrong, a tad happier than the average person would be when exchanging first names.
Once the other candle was lit, he grinned at you so brightly that the corners of his eyes crinkled. You returned the grin.
"Please take a seat. I will find you a book." He waved his hands at the two armchairs before rushing over to the shelves.
You watched him scanning the spines of the books, choosing to sit on the less worn of the two chairs as you figured that the more tattered one was his favourite. You struggled to avert your eyes when he bent over and you were met with the perfect view of his ass, forcing yourself to be respectful and not indulge in your newfound attraction to him. Just friends, you reminded yourself. You were going to be just friends.
Soon enough he was letting out a little noise of delight and practically skipping back over to you where he collapsed into the spare armchair and handed you the book.
"I believe this one has a chapter on rats and a chapter on moles. As you love those little fuckers so much." He repeated your words from earlier back to you with a proud tone in his voice.
"Thank you." You said sincerely, flipping the book open to the contents page. "I trust your recommendations. I read those books you told us about at the end of the ritual course last year."
His eyes widened. "Really?"
"Mhm, although I think you were the only person who had ever borrowed them before me." You shrugged. "They were good, very informative."
He swallowed thickly, Adam's apple bobbing in his throat. "You weren't kidding about your thirst for knowledge, hehe."
You glanced up at him, fingers flicking through the pages of the book on your lap. "It's sort of my motivation in life. Learning as much as possible."
His brows pinched together momentarily. "That is a nice motivation to have."
You smiled, being able to tell that there was more he wanted to say. "But?"
He shook his head with a huff. "How could you tell there was a but?"
"I just know these things."
He huffed again. "But... what of other things?"
You frowned. "Such as? Satan? I am a dedicated sibling of sin, y’know?"
"No, no. I know that, I didn't mean to imply that-" He cut himself off with a sigh. "What about friends?"
Your mouth turned downwards, eyes returning to the book. "I could ask you the same thing."
"Ouch. But I deserved that." He winced. "My apologies. I only wish for all siblings to be happy here."
"I am happy here." You snapped, regretting your tone almost immediately. There was a brief moment of silence where you wished you could take it back.
"Take it from me, I know how lonely a life here can be. Surrounded by so many people yet not really having anyone." He confessed, face falling into a vague sort of sadness.
You didn't know why he was opening up to you. And it wasn't anything you hadn't already deduced about him. But you could see so much of yourself in him that you couldn't understand why you were lashing out when you had been the one telling yourself you wanted to be friends with him in the first place.
"We could be friends." You offered.
He shook his head, taking the offer the wrong way. "Do not say that just because you feel pity for this old Cardinal."
"Aren't you younger than the average upper clergyman?"
"Well, yes. But..." He trailed off. "Still old."
"And I would like to be friends with you."
Copia stared at you for a few seconds, probably trying to figure out if you were being sincere. When you didn't break the eye contact, he realised you were. "Okay..."
You rolled your eyes. "You sound so enthusiastic about the idea."
"Sorry. I mean... okey dokey!" He sent you a double thumbs up and the dorkiest smile you'd ever seen. You couldn't hold back the giggle that rumbled out of your chest at the sight. Copia held the pose for a moment, the smile spreading at your reaction, before he stood from his chair again. "I will get a book of my own and then we can read together. Like friends do, sì?"
You nodded enthusiastically. "Okey dokey."
He chuckled at your repetition of his words before shuffling off with a low groan, muttering something about the pain in his knees, and squatting in front of the stacks. For a man who claimed to be old and had aching joints, he seemed to have no trouble getting down so low. You watched him over the top of your book as he did a little side step crab walk thing to see what titles he hadn't read yet, eyes darting back towards the page when he grabbed a volume and returned to sit next to you.
"What did you choose?"
"A Beginner's Guide to Small Mammals." He read out the cover to you. "Research for that class you're getting me to teach."
You nodded slowly. "Very wise choice."
The two of you descended into peaceful, comfortable silence, the turning of pages breaking the quiet every so often. Copia zoomed through the book he'd chosen, clearly knowing a lot of it already, but you took your time, making sure to take in every single word carefully. You found yourself appreciating rats a little more after you'd finished that chapter and loving moles more than you already did by the time you were halfway through their chapter.
You glanced up to take a look at your reading companion every couple pages or so, enjoying the crease that would appear between his brows every time he came across something he found interesting. A couple of times the two of you made accidental eye contact when you'd go to look at him to find him already looking at you, the two of you smiling awkwardly before looking away again. That, thankfully, didn't ruin the atmosphere however.
Neither of you realised how much time had passed until sunlight had replaced the moonlight shining through the small window despite Copia having almost finished the book he'd chosen and you getting halfway through yours after returning to the beginning once you'd read the two chapters he'd told you about.
"It must be about five in the morning." You commented, that opinion based on the way the rays of sun were positioned. You'd seen a lot of sunrises during your sleepless nights.
"Oh." Copia replied, lowering his book to the coffee table. "What time is Primo's class?"
"Eight." You replied with a sigh, resting your head against the back of your chair and closing your eyes. Despite hours of reading, you still didn't feel like you were close to being able to sleep.
"There is still time for a couple hours of rest."
You shook your head as you opened your eyes again. "I still won't be able to. It's fine. I can survive on no sleep for a day or two."
His eyes widened at the prospect of not sleeping for two nights in a row. "That does not sound healthy."
You laughed. "Probably not. But I get by."
"I'm sorry if I made it worse by keeping you here, I didn't mean-"
You cut him off. "No, not at all. Um, I usually spend sleepless nights pacing around my room and making myself stressed. So this has been a nice change. Thank you for allowing me to read with you. And letting me into the library."
His face softened. "Of course. It's what friends do."
Warmth bloomed in your chest and all you could do was send him a smile that you hoped conveyed how grateful you were. After that the two of you quietly replaced the books you had been reading before extinguishing the sconces and leaving the library. With the sunlight now illuminating the abbey there was no need for your candle anymore so you blew that out as well and held it lower down in front of you, clasped tightly between both of your hands. You handed it to Copia briefly as you locked the library doors for him.
You walked silently for a while, wondering what to say to him now that the tranquil feeling of the library had been left behind. What if books were the key to your conversations with him?
Copia broke the silence. "Did you like the book?"
"Yes, I did. Thank you for recommending it." You said, sincerely, and he only shrugged. "How was yours?"
"I have read better." He confessed. "But not terrible."
It went quiet again and the two of you said nothing until you reached the hallway you'd bumped into him in only a few hours ago.
"I, uh, I go this way now." He pointed down a different entryway than the one you needed to go down.
"Oh, okay." You frowned to yourself before looking at him again. "I had a nice night, Copia. Really. Thank you."
"I should thank you. For keeping this old man company." The leather of his gloves creaked as his fists clenched at his sides.
"It's what friends do." You replied before glancing over your shoulder towards a window, the sun was rising even higher. "I should go."
"Sì, sì." He agreed, glancing down at his slipper-clad feet. "I hope you enjoy Primo's class."
"Thank you. I hope you enjoy... being a Cardinal." Your face scrunched at your own words, how hadn't you asked what he was doing the next morning?
He just laughed. "Grazie."
"See you around then." You didn't want to say goodnight, since it wasn't night, and you didn't want to say good morning, as that seemed idiotic. But see you around then? You needed to work on your social skills if this whole friend thing was going to work out.
Copia nodded. "See you around."
And then the two of you went your separate ways. With you wondering whether you should even bother trying to get a nap in before getting ready for botany with Primo, and Copia secretly watching you walk away over his shoulder wondering when his luck had started to change.
A/N: This has been sitting complete in my drafts for a hot minute because I told myself I’d write at least another 2 chapters of it before posting but then I realised it works perfectly fine by itself so I just decided to post it. Hope you enjoyed!
