The lake’s embrace | Luke Hughes
Tumblr media
Summary: Jack’s neighbor and first friend in New Jersey outside of the team, has finally ran out of excuses to avoid going to the lake house. She has avoided going in the past for two reasons. 1) after a traumatic experience she has been afraid of deep water 2) she doesn’t get along with the youngest Hughes. But when shit hits the fan it’s Luke who saves her life.
Warning: near death experience, fear of water, childhood trauma/abuse, mentions of death.
Notes: This story means a lot to me as it hits close to home, also it’s the first story that made me actually sob while writing it, for that reason I have decided to do minimal editing.
The young florist is coming home from her normal 9 to 5 shift from her mother’s flower shop. She wouldn’t trade this job for the world. She loves listening to the stories her customers always carry in. From young men asking out their crush to the old woman buying flowers for her lover’s grave. Sometimes she grows green with envy as she struggles from a lack of romance in her life. She sighs to herself as she reaches for her keys in her purse.
“Max!” The girl knew what her neighbor wanted before he even made it to her door. She quickly remembers the excuse she had came up with in her room the other day in anticipation of this conversation. She regathers herself before turning in the direction of her neighbor. While she was just expecting to see Jack, she is surprised to see Luke there as well.
“Jack shouldn’t you be in bed resting?” Completely ignoring Luke who just rolls his eyes.
“No surgery can hold me down.” Jack flexes causing Max stare at him in disbelief. “Anyways you know what I’m here for, I’m not taking no for an answer this time.”
“I’m not sure I can go, I can’t just leave my mom empty handed at the shop.” She knows her mom can handle to shop with the help of her husband but as far as she knows, Jack doesn’t know that, or does he.
“Funny you say that,” Jack replied holding a smile that would rival a Cheshire Cat. This causes Max to quirk her head in confusion, “I went to the shop after you went home yesterday and asked your mom and she said that she will be fine and that you need time to relax.”
“I don’t know why you went through all of that when you know she’s just going to find another excuse not to go.” Luke pinches the bridge of his nose before looking at Max, “Look if you don’t want to go just say that so he shuts up.”
“Glad to see you’re still as pleasant as a melted popsicle Luke.”Max doesn’t know what came over her but as Luke rolls his eyes again she felt something snapped, “You know what, I’ll go. My mom is right I deserve to rest.”
Jack nearly leaps with joy. He quickly tells her all the details she needs to get ready for the trip before the brothers leave to their place.Max quickly lets herself into her place .
The time flies and the next thing Max knows, she on the pier of the Hughes Family lake house. She’s met a few….. characters as she would describe them. From Jack’s flirty friend Trevor to one of Luke’s old college team mates that for the record are way nicer than Luke. So far she has avoided going into the water either by staying inside with Ellen or claiming to be sunbathing. But much like her excuses to avoid coming to the lake house in the first place, her excuses on avoiding the water would run out sooner or later.
“Come on Maxie as much as we love looking at your pretty face from over here it would be better in the water,” Jack calls out from the water. Now Max was use to Jack’s flirtatious remarks so she simply ignores him and continues to read her book.
“Leave her alone Jack if she doesn’t want to get into the water then she doesn’t have to.” Both Jack and Max are surprise to hear Luke stand up for her.
“Awe Lukey finally got a soft spot for Maxie?” The eldest Hughes who met Max a few times before, teases Luke who is standing next to him by the grill.
“Fuck no she’s still annoying, I’m just tired of hearing Jack bitch and moan.” And just as fast as he arrived ,nice Luke was gone and was replaced with the normal hater Luke.
“Oh fight me you White crayon ass bitch,” Max flips Luke off while going back to her book. But she doesn’t miss the roar of laughter the plague the area in response to her comeback.
“I promise Maxie by the end of this week I will get you in the water.” Max ignores Jack’s seemingly harmless threat in order to keep her mind at peace but in reality her heart is racing at the thought of going in the water.
Max avoids the water for the next few days but of course fate wasn’t on her side.
It was the second to last day at the lake house before Max had to go back to Newark. She is back on the pier this time she is just talking to Jack who is telling her some childhood stories. Max had no suspicions of Jack’s plan until she feels herself being picked up from behind.
She looks at the culprit and sees a smiling Trevor who was looped into Jack’s plan.
“Trevor for the love of God I’m begging you, don’t throw me in that lake,” Panic fills Max as she tries pleading with Trevor. But the stupid boy doesn’t see the panic and laughs off her pleads.
“Sorry Maxie no can do.” Trevor runs to the end of the pier and before she knew it she was in the air falling down to her watery grave.
As Max hit the water, she was quickly thrown back into the memory of one of the worst days of her life.
Max loved water as a kid, growing up in Southern California, she was a classic mermaid loving girl. She actually dreamed of being a marine biologist. But one faithful day changed all of that.
Her father was rarely around in her childhood and for good reasons. He was an alcoholic with anger issues. So imagine her mother’s surprise to hear that Max and her little brother had been picked up early from school by their father.
The then 8 year old Max had no clue what was going on, but she was just happy to see her dad. What she didn’t know was the evil plan her father had. Now a lot of the small details are a blur to her , but she vividly remembers her father driving his car into the lake with her and her brother in the back seat.
Now she tried her best to pull her brother out of the water, but she was fighting against the raging current that kept pulling her back down into the water. The raging water and the strength she needed to save her brother was too much for her frail body and she ended up passing out from exhaustion before she could get out of the water.
When she woke up, she found out she was the only one to survive the crash.
Everyone head turns when they hear Max’s scream. It wasn’t a normal scream, it was one of pure fear. Everyone looks at the situation with confusion. Well everyone but Luke who run into action and runs to the end of the pier and dives in after Max.
Without thinking he grabs Max and pulls her to land.
“CPR she needs CPR.” Luke shouts panicking. Jack’s girlfriend, Sam, runs over to where Luke lays Max down at. Luckily Sam use to be a lifeguard and she has kept up to date on her cpr certification.
Luke leaves Max in Sam’s care before going over to his panicked brother. Luke shoves Jack.
“You should have fucking listened to her when she said fucking no Jack.” Luke shoves Jack even harder. “She can’t swim dumbass.”
“Hey it’s not his fault, she should have told him she couldn’t swim.” Trevor stands in between the brothers.
“No mean fucking no Trevor, she doesn’t have to tell us shit beyond no.” Luke now pushes Trevor, “You nearly killed her for what? Shits and giggles?”
Before anyone could say anything else, they hear violent coughing. Luke glares at Jack and Trevor once more before rushing to Max’s side.
“Luke? You saved me?” Max asks with a raspy voice. Luke simply gestures to Quinn who is holding a water bottle. Quinn understands and hands Luke the water. He helps Max drink. “How did you know?”
“About a month ago, I found you drunk in the hall,” Luke recalls.
Like had just came home from his late night gym session, when he sees a female figure sitting outside of his and Jack’s apartment door. He assumes it’s one of Jack’s weird stalker fans. But as he got closer he realized it was Max.
Now Luke has a crush on Max but the poor boy is a hopeless romantic. His failed attempts of flirting through teasing had came out ruder than he intended creating a bad impression towards Max. So when he sees the girl he likes, drunk at his door step he can’t help but be concerned.
“Max?” Luke puts down his gym bag when he hears the sobs coming from Max, “What’s wrong?”
“It’s Lukey’s birthday.” This statement confuses Luke since his birthday wasn’t til September and it was currently April.
“No my birthday is in September.” He sits next to Max and she automatically puts her head on his shoulder.
“Noooo my brother Lukas.” She slurs her words, “I couldn’t save him, I couldn’t save my little brother.”
She tells Luke the story. Luke feels a mix of anger towards Max’s father as well as sympathy towards Max and her loss.
“I am such a bad person,” Max cries even louder, “If only I was stronger, my brother would have lived to turn 16.”
“Maxie it wasn’t your fault, you were 8,” Luke does his best to comfort the drunk girl, but he knows she probably can’t even hear him in her drunken state.
So he just holds her as she cries in the hallways until she passes out. He grabs her keys that were fortunately in her hands, and he carefully tucked her into her bed.
“God I thought that was a dream,” in that moment, Max think she would have preferred going back into the water than dealing with the embarrassment she was feeling.
“Awe you dream about me?” Max turns red and she quickly turns away from Luke, “Don’t worry I dream about you too, quite often actually.”
She snaps her head back at Luke in shock, “You do? But I thought you hated me.”
“I never hated you,” He says while running his hand in her wet hair, “I am just horrible at flirting.”
“Flirting? Why would you flirt with me,” She looks at Luke for a second before putting one and one together. “OHHHH, really?”
“Yeah unfortunately,” she shoves Luke with the little strength she has, “but we can talk about this later, let’s get you inside and warm.”
Luke picks Max up as the two ignore everyone else.
“Wait what the fuck you mean unfortunately? You fucking uncooked spaghetti noodle.”

I’ll Try (Percy Jackson x Reader)
~I'm not a child now  I can take care of myself ~
You charged up the hill and tackled Percy, Annabeth, and Grover into a big hug. Ignoring their laughter you gave a relieved sigh. You heard Luke give a small chuckle behind you.
"Careful (Y/N), don't hurt yourself," he paused and added, "or them."
You stopped hugging the trio and turned to the tall blonde with an exasperated look.
"Luke, I can take care of myself. I'm not a kid anymore."
Luke gave a sad smile and nodded his head in consent. You walked down the hill with the returning hero asking a million questions (How'd it go? Percy did what! So, Tunnel of Love? etc). You were walking right next to Percy and Luke grimaced. Of course you had to be close to him. That was not going to make this easy.
~I mustn't let them down now  I must not let them see me cry  I'm fine, I'm fine~
You hadn't left your bed in two days. You ignored your siblings (or cabin mates) as they tried to tempt you out of bed. Luke had tried to kill Percy and you had no idea if Percy was okay. Not only had one of your favorite people had tried to kill someone, he tried to kill your crush best friend. But despite this, you refused to cry and admit how you feel. You've used the excuse of being sick.
Someone opened the door to your cabin. You groaned and turned to them. You saw Annabeth wince at your disheveled hair and red rimmed eyes.
        "Hey, he's awake."
~I'm too tired to listen  I'm too old to believe  All these childish stories ~
You were sitting down next to Percy's bed. He was (in secret of course) telling you what Luke had done. You were trying not to cry. Why would Luke do this? Percy finished and noticed your distressed state.
"Hey, um, you are allowed to cry y'know."
You nodded and looked in front of you trying to process everything.
"Um, I'm sure he'll realize how ridiculous his idea is and come back. He would never leave you."
You scoffed. As if such fantasies would be true.
~There is no such thing as faith And trust and pixie dust ~
You were now sitting the the living room of the Big House. Chiron had a grim look on his face as Percy, once again, retold his interaction with Luke. When Percy finished he nodded.
"We will not tell the other campers," he said with a warm look to you. You had taken to leaning on Percy with a (shaky) straight expression. "We must have faith the Luke will come to his sense."
~I try but it's so hard to believe  I try but I can't see what you see  I try, I try, I try~
Why is it everyone keep saying have faith? Isn't it obvious? Luke was not coming back. Yet you couldn't bring yourself to believe that he was truly joining the dark side. Everyone that knew what happened had taken to telling you he would come back and then calling him a villian when they thought you couldn't hear.
You couldn't see Luke as a villain, even though he tried to kill Percy. You had a hard time looking at Percy, feeling like you failed.
When the summer came you watched Percy leave with a frown.
~My whole world is changing  I don't know where to turn ~
All around was yelling, clashing, and screams as your fellow campers tried to fight off the monster invasion. Images of Luke flashed in your mind. The kind face you grew up with twisted into a smirk with piercing golden eyes. With Kronos's eyes. You were frozen when you first saw them, but Rachel hitting him in the face with a hairbrush broke that trance.
~I can't leave you waiting  But I can't stay and watch the city burn  Watch it burn~
Someone grabbed your shoulder and you turned around to see Percy with a grim look on his face.
"Please stay back, you're hurt," he begged gripping his sword tighter.
"I can't stand back and watch my home burn Perce," you said taking out your weapon. Percy gave you a pleading look and you returned it with a sad smile. He wasn't letting go of your shoulder. You got an idea. You stepped closer to Percy and gave him a quick kiss. His grip loosened and you stepped out of his reach.
"I'll stay by your side, alright?"
~'Cause I try but it's so hard to believe  I try but I can't see what you see ~
The battle was over and now it was time to count the deaths. You were watching the campers shuffle around in somber moods as they learned if their loved ones were still alive. On the cot next to you was a distressed Pollux. After his brother died he had charged into battle earning him a nasty cut.
Behind you one of Apollo's kids was bandaging you shoulder (the injury that Percy was so concerned about). Your face was set in a frown. You were angry. Angry at Luke, at Kronos. But most of all, you were angry at yourself. Despite everything you still found yourself unable to call Luke a bad guy.
~I try, I try, I try And I try to understand the distance in between  The love I feel ~
Someone sat next to you. You glanced at them from the corner of your eye. When you saw Percy's concerned face you sighed and rested your head on his shoulder. He tensed but soon relaxed and put his arm around you in a side hug. He gently kissed your head, and without looking at him you could guess that his face was red.
Neither of you said anything. You were lost in your thoughts and Percy didn't know what to say. First you kiss him in the volcano, then right before you ran into battle. He was confused to say the lease. You on the other hand you were conflicted. Conflicted between the love you have for Luke (the closest thing you've had to a father), and the love (because your pretty sure that's what your feeling) you feel for Percy. You couldn't help but feel guilty that you still cared about someone that has repeatedly tried to kill Percy.
~The things I fear  And every single dream  I can finally see it ~
You sat up with a gasp, another dream shaking you awake. Horrible flashes of blood, fighting, and screams.
"Hey," someone spoke to your left. You turned to look and sighed when you saw Percy sitting in a chair next to the bed you were in.
"Hey," you replied while looking around the room you had awoken in.
"You basically passed out when we got here, so I brought into one of the bedrooms," Percy explained with a sheepish smile. That's right, you were fighting Lu- no Kronos's army. As night began to fall you and all the demigods had found and abandoned penthouse and decided to take refuge for the night.
Percy moved to sit next to you. You gave him a helpless look as your dream came back to you.
"Perce," he hummed as he shyly set his hand on yours, "Luke really is evil isn't he?"      ~Now I have to believe  All those precious stories~
You looked around the once beautiful Olympus. Now everything was empty and destroyed. You felt Percy grab your hand as you slowly moved towards the council room. Looking around you realized, all the stories Percy and various camper had told you were true. Luke was evil, and he wasn't going to change.
~All the world is made of faith And trust and pixie dust ~
You grunted as your back hit a pillar. You were attempting to distract Kronos with Annabeth and Grover. Percy was trying to contact his father by (stupidly) sitting on his throne. You struggled to stand up but gave up when Kronos stood over your body.
"L-Luke, please," you weakly begged while whipping a bit a blood off the side of your mouth.
Kronos smirked, "It's pathetic really, you should here him. He begging me not to hurt you. So sad."
You held back a sob, "Shut up, if you're going to kill me, do it."
He gave a cruel laugh, "Tempting, but no. Instead..." He trailed off pulling out a shining dagger. Your frown deepened. "Since I'm feeling generous I'll make you an offer. You join me, I will heal you after all this silly fighting is done. Don't, well I'm sure your boyfriend will miss you."
He plunged the dagger into your side, but not very deep. You barely stifled your scream as he quickly retracted it.  You heard Percy talking somewhere. You reached down to feel the wound, but you were surprised to feel no blood.
        "You have ten minutes."
~So I'll try  'Cause I finally believe ~
You were kneeling next to Luke's dyeing body. Percy was next to you. You were barely holding your side, knowing time was running out. Luke noticed your hand and gave you a shaky smile.
        "I-I'm s-sorry (Y/N)."
You smiled with tears streaming down your face. "I'll see you on the other side Lukey. I love you."
        "I love you too."
~I'll try  'Cause I can see what you see  I'll try, I'll try, I will try~
Percy was hugging you was as the Fates appeared and covered Luke's body. You felt yourself weakening. You ignore Apollo's concerned glaces in favor for giving one last kiss. Just as Hermes picked up Luke you felt your knees give out. You collapse in Percy's arms.
        "(Y/N)!"
         ~I'll try To fly~
You open your eyes and slowly stand up. In front of you are the blue eyes you've been longing to see.
"Hey (Y/N), it's funny seeing you here. Welcome to Elysium."

London ain’t a breeze
a/n ok so, I basically had this idea while I was in my science exam and I was like even though it's not SUPER unique it will still be fun. Anyway on of my favs and inspiration put up a story really similar to this not long ago. I know she doesn't care and tbh doesn't really read my work since I'm not really 'anything' in the tumblr world. I just wanted to point out though that although similar this story was inspired by the show itself. Peace and love xoxo-Bay
Lucas looked down at the thin boarding pass in his hand, the rough but smooth texture hitting his hand and making him pull a face of disgust. He watched as the long line of people waiting to get their ticket scanned at the entrance gate started becoming smaller and less dense. The excited and nervous buzz coming from the waiting crowd beforehand had now settled to a smaller cloud of tired groans and moans. Lucas didn't know why he wasn't running towards the entrance gate to jump on his flight and make it to his destination as quick as possible. Something was just holding him to his uncomfortable and oddly sticky waiting room chair. There was something that Lucas could only describe as an odd vibe lingering over him, maybe even a 'bad' vibe. Maybe it was the dreary sky that once held the wonders of the sun now only affiliating with darkness. Maybe it was the uncertainty of the other side of the journey. Whatever it was, it was making Lucas highly uncomfortable, a feeling he didn't think he would associate with this trip.
As the flight attendant called "last call' Lucas hesitantly grabbed his backpack and handed the lady his ticket and his passport. The flight attendant, noticing he was alone, simply smiled at the green eyed boy and mouthed good luck. Lucas only simply bowed his head at her before trenching to the entrance to the plane. He looked behind him as he walked and realised he was the last one to enter the plane. Lucas reached the entrance and handed the lady his ticket before kneeling down and kissing the floor of the tarmac . The flight attendant smiled at the nervous young boy and then he pointed him to the right way to go. Upon arrival of his carriage Lucas became thankful that he did indeed wait behind and savour the peace and quiet he had only momentarily left.  There was three children spread across the front row of the section all screaming, their distraught parents frantically looking around apologising profusely. Lucas gave them a smile even though he wasn't particularly happy with what was going on. He then found his seat and sat down next to a larger old man that was snoring very loudly and drooling all over his guns 'n' roses t-shirt.
Lucas than looked to the two seats in front of him and saw two middle aged ladies chatting and competing with each others voices with every note. Lucas sighed and put his seat belt and his eye mask on preparing for what he knew would know be a very long flight.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
A loud scream from nearby woke up Lucas, he looked around in a panicked state thinking that the plane was crashing by the frequency of the scream. He looked backwards and saw a stressed young man who was screaming while a flight attendant tried to calm him. She was hushing him and telling him that the turbulence was just the plane landing. Lucas sighed in relief that the plane was finally landing and he could finally have a fraction of a good time, Lucas had chalked about this bad vibes feeling to this whole plane ordeal. There was a loud thud and Lucas flew into the seat in front of him and Lucas was never more thankful that he had finally landed. Even the flight attendants looked around in distain and fear.
As soon as the captain announced that everyone could leave the aircraft Lucas was out of his seat and running towards the exit. Somehow he'd managed to skip all of the lines of people in his frantic exit and he was the first one of the plane. Lucas scurried through the border security fairly quickly considering most of the people from his plane were behind him.  When he reached baggage claim he took a moment to himself and sighed before walking out the door to the millions of signs with peoples name on them. He looked to the left and saw his history teacher a wide smile on his face and a sign that said 'Lukey' in all capitals with love hearts around it. Lucas laughed very loudly and ran over to Cory Matthews, when Cory spotted the young boy walking near him he smiled and faked a high pitched squeal. Lucas and Cory laughed when they finally met and embraced in a small hug.
'Oh Lucas, how I've missed you.' Cory said in his best fake teenage girl voice.
'What are you doing Cory. I think I need to take you back to New York right now.' Lucas joked and Cory patted him on the back steering him out of the airport.
'Well I thought I'd do my best Riley impression, did I ace it?' Cory asked and Lucas just shook his head.
'I think that was the perfect impression for what you think Riley is like.' Lucas responded and Cory pondered his statement for a moment before replying.
'Lucas I think I was spot on for this trip, It's your first "surprise" visit and she'll turn into a total girl.' Cory sassed.
'As opposed to turning into a boy?' Lucas joked causing Cory to give him a scrunched up face before entering the car. Lucas and Cory sped down the streets surrounding Heathrow airport.
'How was your flight?' Cory asked the seemingly tired Lucas.
'Very long, very loud.' Lucas responded wincing from the thought of his flight giving him a headache.
'Oh was there a lot of turbulence?' Cory asked the boy and Lucas just shrugged.
'I don't think so. I was asleep most of the flight I think.' Lucas replied and Cory hummed in reply.
The rest of the ride was fairly silent in regards to the exchange between the two boys. Upon arrival to the Matthews apartment Lucas started to become very nervous. What was Riley going to do when she saw him, would she be angry or would she be upset. Lucas didn't think before just how risky it was to just show up here, what if she faked happiness towards him but was holding distain that he was keeping her from her other friends. Cory guided Lucas into his upper class London apartment and Lucas was met by Topanga waiting for him in the kitchen.
'Ok so me and Cory are leaving, we'll be back in like 4 hours and Riley will be home from school in about 20 minutes. Hide wherever you want and be good please, make sure you tell me all about it when we get back.' Topanga lectured before walking out the door and leaving hand in hand with Cory.
Lucas smiled at the couple and then looked around the grand apartment for a spot to hide. After much thought he decided to hide in her closet, he knew that she would come in and probably text Maya before heading to her closet to get changed. He knew this girl like the back of his hand, he knew her so well that sometimes it scared him. He walked into Riley's room and saw the walls were a lot barer than the last time he and the gang had visited London. All the photos of her London friends and her New York friends were no where in sight. Her silly posters and her candles and ornaments that used to scatter across her bedside table and her dresser were no where in sight. The only personal thing that Lucas could see was a photo frame of her and him on her bedside table next to a glass of water. As much as he appreciated the gesture, he couldn't help but think that it was weird was annoyingly bare.
Lucas started to think that maybe something was going on, maybe Cory and Topanga offering him a free trip to London was asking him for help. He shook the thought out of his head and ran into her closet. After about 30 minutes of waiting in her closet, constantly snapchatting Maya, Lucas started to get a bit worried. He thought about maybe going out there and checking if she was in the kitchen and he hadn't heard her, but he chalked it up to her just being a little late. After 10 more minutes of Lucas' worrying he finally heard the door open and shut. Happily he set his phone down and put his ear up to the door to listen to her.
'Mum, Dad are you home?' He heard her yell and Lucas laughed and smiled widely at her innocent voice.
After a second Lucas heard Riley's footsteps inching closer to her bedroom. He heard the sound of what he thinks was her jumping on her bed and then nothing. He could assume she was dialing Maya's number to call her but became slightly worried when he started to hear nothing. Just as Lucas was leaning against the door to open it and surprise her he heard what he could only describe as crying. After a few seconds he confirmed to himself that it was indeed muffled sobs. Not being able to take it anymore he softly opened the door and saw something he never wanted to see. Riley Matthews was laying on her bed, facing the ceiling, her school uniform was tattered and torn in some places. Her eyes were red and puffy tears falling down her face and she was balling, he had never seen her cry as hard as she was crying right now. He himself thought that he was on the verge of tears, he slowly made his way over to the bed and sat behind Riley.
'Hey.' He whispered and Riley shot up to look at her boyfriend. She quickly wiped her eyes and sat up, she put a smile on her face and pulled her boyfriend in for a long embrace.
'Hey Riles, what's wrong?' Lucas asked his voice filled with concern for his girlfriend. She looked at him for a moment, wondering if she would let him know what was happening, looking at his face she realized that he would be leaving. There was absolutely no point telling him when he could do nothing about it.
'It doesn't matter just a lot of homework.' Riley sighed and slouched onto her bed. Lucas followed suit and lay beside the unusual Riley.
'I feel like that isn't it, your clothes are tattered.' Lucas worried and Riley just looked away.
'I just fell on the way home, you know how clumsy I am.' Riley joked trying to play it off.
'Riley, let me help. Please.' Lucas worried and Riley buried her head into her pillow small sobs shuddering her body.
Lucas started to rub circles, he wondered what could possibly make Riley so upset. He'd seen her sad but she was always able to share it with people and let them know what was happening. Suddenly a chord struck in Lucas' mind and he remembered when something similar had happened in regards to Riley.
'What did they do to you.' Lucas whispered into Riley's ear. It was at those 6 words that Riley jumped up from the pillow and fell into Lucas' embrace.
'It was just verbal stuff at first-.' Riley hiccuped into Lucas' chest.
'And then it became more personal. Any friend I ever made they would start some rumour about me so they would leave me. They started following me home and tripping me over and just little harmless things. They would take photos of my bedroom and make fun of you guys. Anything they could make fun of about me they would. I just- I thought it might stop.' Riley sobbed and Lucas just listened his heart breaking at every syllable.
'Why didn't you tell us this Riley, you know how we fixed it last time.' Lucas questioned slightly angry at Riley for letting this go on.
'I really couldn't put it on you this time, I mean you're half way across the world, all it would do is stress you out.' Riley cried and Lucas couldn't help but agree, what could he do really?
'Why don't you move schools?' Lucas asked and Riley looked up at him, for the first time that night really looking into his eyes.
'What?' Riley asked feigning interest.
'Well on the way up here I saw plenty of schools, and I'm sure travelling isn't a massive deal.' Lucas offered and Riley sat there thinking for a moment. It wasn't like her dad was there teaching so nothing was really holding her to the stupid preppy school anyway.
-------------------------------------------------
That night Riley and Lucas spoke with Cory and Topanga about the possibility of moving schools, The older couple were instantly on board not wanting their daughter to ever be uncomfortable. They started mapping out other places in the neighbourhood with more staff around and better reviews.
That's the reason that the couple were always so put together, because even though they both had cons on their list, the other, with help from their friends, would lift each other back up and make each other  better people every day. That's the secret to a good couple.

Words
"Do you have to ruin everything, Jye!" Beau screamed at his youngest brother. "I swear you're such a mistake, it isn't even funny anymore." Luke and Daniel could only watch nervously as Beau went off on Jai. Jai, however, was used to it. He knew his brother absolutely hated him and there was nothing that was going to change that. Jai turned around and ran back inside the house without a single word. Luke would usually try to mediate the argument, but it was becoming more and more difficult with each passing day. It wasn't just the fact that Beau always won that stressed Luke out. It was the fact that Jai never fought back or stood up for himself. "Beau. That's enough!" Luke yelled. "Why can't you ever leave Jai alone!" "It's not even your fight, Luke, so do us both a favor and stay out of it!" Beau shoved past Luke, bumping his shoulder, as he too went inside the house. "I don't know what to do anymore, Daniel. I can't keep choosing between my younger twin and my big brother. Something needs to change, and it needs to change now!" "Luke, I don't know much, but maybe that's your problem. You never just let them work things out for themselves. How are they supposed to get through stuff if you're always interfering?" Daniel spoke after a minute. Luke slowly nodded his head. After all, what could possibly go wrong? - Luke decided not to take sides anymore, but that was probably the worst thing that could have happened. Beau slowly got more and more aggressive towards Jai and Jai continued to withdraw deeper and deeper into himself with each passing day.  The strange thing about it was Beau had actually started being nicer to Jai. Then again, it was literally impossible to get mad at Jai by this point. Luke couldn't even remember the last time he heard Jai have a full on conversation with anyone. - "Lukey!" Beau yelled, getting Luke's attention. "Come look at Daniel's new trick!" Luke chuckled to himself. Did Beau think Daniel was a dog? He decided to follow Beau anyways, and was surprised to see Daniel doing cartwheels and BARKING at Hamlet. He could have definitely gone without seeing that. The three boys all stopped and looked up when they heard someone rushing down the stairs. Jai appeared at the bottom with his gym bag slung over his shoulder. He had been going to the gym a lot lately. "Going to the gym, Jai?" Beau questioned coldly. "Yeah." Jai answered with a single word and Beau only nodded in response. Luke seriously didn't know what was up with his brothers. They used to get along perfectly, but now they practically hated each other. Luke bit his lip in frustration. He knew he couldn't do anything. He had to let them work whatever this was out for themselves. "Luke? Are you okay?" Beau asked, noticing his brother's frustration. "I'm just going to go now!" Daniel announced, not wanting to be in the same room as this conversation but neither brother paid attention to him. "I'm just frustrated!" Luke snapped. "You and Jai practically hate each other, and it's killing me. I'm stuck in the middle of it and I absolutely hate it!" "I don't hate Jai, Luke. I'm just tired and he annoys me at all the wrong times." Beau defended himself. "Really now? Does Jai know that. Because if I know my twin, then he thinks you hate him. He barely even talks anymore. Did you even notice that?" "What are you talking about? Didn't he just say he was going to the gym?" Beau asked obliviously. "You have to try to think like Jai. That wasn't his version of talking. That was just him doing what he had to do to get past us." Luke explained. "Jai has his own version of talking?" "Yeah. He uses it when he wants to lie to me without getting caught mainly, but he also does it when he's not okay. Jai is a lot more complex than you realize." "It'll be okay, Luke. I'll just talk to him when he comes home." Beau promised. The only thing was, Jai never came home that night. Or the next day. He was simply gone. Luke had tried texting and calling his twin, but he only got one text back that consisted of, "I'm fine, just need space." "What are we going to do, Beau?!" Luke panicked, "Jai's never going to come home!" "Luke calm down!" Beau ordered, "and who knows. Maybe it's for the best that he just doesn't come back." "B-" Whatever Luke was going to say was interrupted by a bag being dropped on the floor. Both boys turned to be met with a wide-eyed Jai. They were so into their conversation that they hadn't heard him walk in. "Jai." It was surprisingly Beau that called out to him, but it was too late. The damage had already been done. "I'll be in my room." Jai practically whispered before running up to his room. The remaining two Brooks Brothers followed after him, but Jai had already locked himself inside. They heard Jai's muffled sobs breaking their way through the door before complete silence took over. "Jai!" Luke called making worried eye contact with Beau. "Are you okay in there? I'm worried about you! Beau didn't mean it, he's just stressed." Jai gave no answer. Luke turned to Beau and Beau bit his lip. "Let us in, Jai! Please!" Beau tried unsuccessfully. Jai still didn't answer. "Jai if you don't open this door, I swear I will break it down!" Beau threatened. No response. "Ok, you asked for it!" Beau rammed his shoulder against the door until the lock finally gave way and it opened. Luke and Beau gasped at the sight they saw. Jai was passed out at his desk in the middle of what appeared to be writing. Beau gently picked Jai up and chuckled as his brother cuddled into his chest. He walked over to the bed and laid Jai down on it. As he turned to his other brother, he was shocked to see him covering his mouth with tears running down his face. "Luke?" "These are...Jai was writing suicide notes...that's why he wasn't answering us." "What?" Beau was shocked. He had never taken his brother as the suicidal type. "Should we read them?" "Beau, I don't think-" Luke started, but Beau wasn't listening to him. He had already taken the one with his name on it and opening it. "Beau, I know you pretty much hate me right now, and I just want you to know how sorry I am. I don't know what I ever did wrong, but I know it had to be something. This past year, you've been progressively becoming more and more annoyed with me. I realize that it's my fault and my fault alone. You've always been an amazing big brother, but I've never really appreciated you. I'm not good enough to be your little brother, but you don't have to worry anymore. Soon, I'll be gone and you won't have to worry any more. Just promise you'll take care of Luke. I don't want him to follow after me... Love Always, Jai Beau couldn't believe what he had just read. He hurriedly woke up his youngest brother and started spouting off apologies and telling him how much he loved him. "I forgive you Beau, but I was kind of sleeping. Do you...?" Jai easily forgave Beau. "Of course. Not at all! Just let me know if you need anything!" Beau quickly left the room and Jai turned to Luke. "Before you start yellow at me, he kind of deserved it." Jai admitted, trying to give Luke a hint. "Why you!" Luke's eyes widened. "You dirty pig! Those were fake suicide notes weren't they?" Jai's smile told him everything. "Wow, you really are the evil twin." "To be fair, at the rate things were going, they would have become real if something wasn't done about Beau's attitude. We never know how much our words really hurt someone until it's too late."
