This One Song… The Wytches on Unsure
Tell you what – we love hearing from artists when things go right. We equally love hearing from artists when things go dreadfully wrong. A song that was a piece of piss, written in 20 minutes? Or years in the making and a bastard to write? Whether it’s a song that came together through great duress or one that was smashed out in a short amount of time, we’re getting the lowdown from some of our…

1990s Trip Hop Playlist
Been six months since I added anything to this fly-as-fuck playlist, and this week I've got a bunch of heady, spaced-out, and super stoned treats for you all. For this update, I ended up drawing from three separate releases: Ninja Cuts: Flexistentialism, a terrific comp from 1996 that was put out by premier UK trip hop, hip hop, downtempo, and future jazz label Ninja Tune; French native Kid Loco's brilliant DJ-Kicks mix from 1999 that was put out by Germany's !K7 label; and a varied South African comp that was put out by national indie label Fresh Records in 1998 called ReRooted: Beatz From da Ground Up.
So let's highlight some sweet goodies from all of these then. First up, "Junkies Bad Trip" by London Funk Allstars, a quintessential piece of head-nodding mid-90s boom bap dope that sounds like it's waiting for your favorite New York rapper's favorite New York rapper to spit some crazy fire over it. When it comes to instrumental trip hop and hip hop-type shit, there's really nothing in my mind that tops something like this tune right here; a big sonic bluntski with two pretty iconic samples in it: one from Baby Huey's "Hard Times," which gives the song its frenzied, metallic, whistling stabs, and has been used in a whole bunch of other rap tunes too; and a funky guitar riff from James Brown's "Blind Men Can See It," which was also famously used in Das EFX's 1992 classic, "They Want EFX" as well. Currently at around 252K plays on Spotify.
Next, something really cool from that ReRooted comp by a band from Cape Town called Naked, who only ever put out one album, 1998's Bone Needs Flesh. Here they offer up a tune called "Wash Your Hands (Stone Cold remix)," which employs this really unique blend of chopped-up vocals, heavy breathing, and sharp, acidic bass stabs, as a couple different effects are applied to frontwoman Kaolin Thompson's voice. This one seems pretty damn obscure, as it's currently sitting at under 1,000 plays on Spotify. It's terrific, though.
And for some pure fuckin' THC-induced nuttery, there's "Attitude Adjuster" by Essex, England's own Tom Tyler. Appearing on Kid Loco's DJ-Kicks mix, this 1999 leftfield stunner's marked by a very imposing, dissonantly wobbly, and bleating horn sound, with a dubbed-out drumbeat beneath it, and all of it anchored by a super chill and steady synth pad to mellow and balance the whole thing out. A simply bananas piece of music that was made to satiate your crusty-eyed inner insomniac at 3:46 in the morning. Currently at a little over 4,000 Spotify plays.
9 Lazy 9 - "Turn Me Loose" Jazz Con Bazz - "Wayz of Life" Luke Vibert - "Get Your Head Down" Up, Bustle & Out - "Ninja's Principality" London Funk Allstars - "Junkies Bad Trip" DJ Vadim - "Theme From Conquest of the Irrational (Remix by The Prunes)" Pelding - "One" Naked - "Wash Your Hands (Stone Cold remix)" Boards of Canada - "Happy Cycling" Tom Tyler - "Attitude Adjuster" Kid Loco - "Flyin' on 747"
Now, something else I should mention is that the YouTube version of this playlist includes all of these songs too, but a bunch of the versions that are specifically from Kid Loco's DJ-KIcks mix are as they appear on the mix itself, which is a little different from how they sound unmixed on Spotify, except for the set's sweet and serene closer, "Flyin' on 747."
But in addition to that, this YouTube update also comes with some songs from that DJ-Kicks mix that aren't on Spotify at all too, like something from a London collective called Common Ground, whose 1998 song, "Dark Soul," has some piano-and-string bits that might remind you a little of something like the theme song from Succession—a show that came 20 years after this very song dropped—but this tune, like so many others in this update, is also very fucking stoned; it has this Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells-like opening, some plonking xylo, and some slow and incremental, scale-climbing vocals to mark its 'chorus' too. An absolute, unheralded banger as far as I'm concerned, and currently only nearing 1,900 plays on YouTube across a couple different uploads.
Emperors New Clothes - "Dark Light (Underdog Mix)" Grantby - "Grimble" Tongue - "Culture Consumers" Common Ground - "Dark Soul" Stereotyp - "Slo Jo"
And this playlist is also on YouTube Music.
So with this update we're now at 46 songs that clock in at 4 hours and 5 minutes on Spotify, but over on YouTube, we've got 76 songs that clock in at 7 hours and 2 minutes! So if you want more dank 90s trip hop than you know what to do with, then do yourself a favor and pick the YouTube one.
And if 7 hours and change or 4 hours and change sounds like way too overwhelming of an amount of trip hop for you to handle, I've got a bunch of this broken down by year too:
1994 Trip Hop: YouTube / YouTube Music 1996 Trip Hop: Spotify / YouTube / YouTube Music 1997 Trip Hop: YouTube / YouTube Music 1998 Trip Hop: YouTube / YouTube Music 1999 Trip Hop: YouTube / YouTube Music
More trip hop next week, but from a certain locality 😎.
Enjoy!
More to come, eventually. Stay tuned!
Like what you hear? Follow me on Spotify and YouTube for more cool playlists and uploads!

F* The Legends - Card Games
Ever curious how Luke Arnold got an idea for card games for his The Fetch Phillips Series "Dead Man in a Ditch"?
F* The Legend is a card game using all 54 cards attempting to get the lowest score possible each round, and by winning rounds earning enough points to reach 10.
Originally a card game named 'Fours' created by Oliver Oldfield, it was played throughout multiple hostels in Malaysia by The Buskers Guide with Ashley Arnold and modified with Luke Arnold until 'F* The Legend' was born.
This is a game of memory, strategy and luck.
Players: 3 - 6
Card Values
 J = 0, A = 1, Face Value = 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Q = 11, K = 10, Joker = 0
Game
The dealer rotates with every turn, to start the game every player is dealt 4 cards face down. Once all 4 cards have been dealt you can only look at 2 of your cards then place them face down in the same starting positions. You cannot recheck your cards once you the game has started.
The deck sits in the middle of the table and once everyone has looked at any two of their cards they each tap the table to signal they're ready to start. Once every player is ready the dealer flips the top card over and the person to their left can choose to swap that card with one in their hand or pick a new one from the deck. You do not have to show anyone the card you pick up but you must place the card you swapped out onto the pile next to the deck face up.
The idea is to accumulate the lowest score of all the players by trading your cards whilst learning what you had when turning them out, when you think you have the lowest score at the end of your turn call 'I’m a Legend'. Once this has been called every other player has one more turn then then all cards are flipped face up, player with the lowest score wins the round. You cannot have more then 4 cards at anyone time.
Scoring
Every player starts on 0 and is trying to be the first to 10, you score at the end of every round.
Calling legend and having lowest score on flip: 3 points.
Not calling legend but have lowest score on flip: 1 point.
Calling legend and not having lowest score on flip: -1 point.
Having a score 20 or over on flip: -1 point.
Having a score of 35 or over: resets to 0.
4 of a kind: Can slap everyone at the table, no one wins or loses a point.
Draw
If players tie with the lowest score there is a final showdown to determine the winner of that round. We will list options but any game can be played recommend something quick and simple. Once the winner is decided they receive 1 point, even if that player originally called legend. If the player who called legend loses the final showdown they do not lose a point.
Final Showdown Game (2 Players)
Players are dealt two face down cards each, placed side by side. Both player look at their left card then place it back on the table face down. Players decide wether to keep their left card or swap it with the opponents right hand card. Lowest score wins, card values same as 'F* the Legend'.
F*ng the Legend
This game has power cards which you will use to help steal other players cards, swap players cards, get 2nd turns and use to 'F* The Legend'. You can only use these cards once and they cannot be picked up from the deck by any other player if used or not. You should pay attention to what other players swap out as you can learn what others have as well as yourself.
Power Cards
K: 'The Kind King' - If you turn a king you receive 1 more turn from the deck
7: 'The Thief' - You can swap any 2 cards on the table. This can be one of yours with another player or 2 other players with each other. Cards remain face down.
Joker: 'The Troll' - If you turn this card it has multiple functions.
Troll 1. 'Inside Cards' or 'Outside Cards'. Calling one of these two will have every player on the table swapping their cards with players directly to their sides. Left inside or outside card goes to the left and the same for the right.
Troll 2. 'Peek a boo' you can look at any one card on the entire table. You cannot show anyone else, even if the the player who's deck you looked at does/ doesn't know it.
Troll 3. 'Half/ Double' you can hold onto the joker until the end as its value is 0. If you have the score 5 or under the Joker doubles it and if you have 6 or over the Joker halves it. If you have 2 Jokers in your hand the 2nd is still worth 0 and has no power.
Turn Around
If 2 of the same value/ number card are turned out on top of each other on the turned pile the player rotation immediately reverses and vice versa. This does not affect dealer rotation.
Its a really fun game and you can obviously add drinks to certain cards and have drink penalties if someone fucks up.
Get f*ed

Notes from me:
I saved this log long time ago before Facebook went to lots of updates. I looked up on their profile page and seems like it's gone? But I'm not sure about it, hopefully notes section still there too.
I had to change the word, so yeah *sweats*

Mike Oldfield's Nuclear
Just listening to a classic song from MGSV, and I only just realised that Luke Spiller Of The Struts is doing the vocals. I really want @tiredandlonelymuse to do a cover of it, as it's such a good song.

LIST OF GEN 2 PIXIES
Offspring of Fergus Whimsifinado (Head Pixie the First) from Sanderson to Southmark. Most are interchangeable, but notable characters are bolded and marked with an asterisk.
Alternatively, click HERE to view a Google Sheet that lists the Gen 2 pixies, their ages during the frozen timestream, ages compared with Anti-Cosmo, and age difference from Sanderson (Basically a prettier and better organized version of this post).
This is a quick reference tool I made for author purposes and ages are not 100% exact to the year (H.P. doesn’t have his pixies exactly on the 500 year mark, after all).

Bristol Harbour Festival 19th - 21st July 2019
The Bristol Harbour Festival is back this weekend - Friday 19th July to Sunday 21st July.   Celebrating its 47th year, this free festival brings over 250,000 people together and is held annually to celebrate the city’s maritime heritage and the importance of Bristol’s docks and harbour.
Most of the activities are free, including live music, street performances, dance acts, interactive theatre, international circus acts, daredevil stunts and a variety of other live entertainments which are held on or near the waterfront of Bristol Harbour.
The outside venues include Queen Square, Lloyds Amphitheatre, Narrow Quay, Merchants, Quay, Hannover Quay, Millennium Square and Cathedral Walk, with seagoing vessels moored nearby. The liveliest part of the festival is quayside and the main attractions are entertainment designed to engage all the communities of Bristol, as well as entertain the thousands of visitors to the city.
Find your way around the Bristol Harbour Festival’s Performance Areas - Downloadable Map  See the program of events further down the page.
Market Locations
Narrow Quay,  Merchants Quay,  Queens Square and Hannover Quay
The City has hosted the festival since 1971, when it was started as part of an, ultimately successful, attempt to save the docks from being filled in.  In 2012, the festival attracted over 200,000 visitors, its highest ever attendance at that time, with the Irene and the Matthew being two of the tall ships in attendance that year.
The festival is held every year in July over a weekend and many of the bar and restaurants put on extra entertainment to keep visitors happy during the late evenings. In 2018 visitors were be able to watch for the first time, the Power8 rowing sprints battle it out on the water, as teams from eight cities compete to be the best.
The highlight of this year’s festival will be the arrival of three very special tall ships - The Etoile Molence, Irene and Iris.  Also Power8 Sprints will also be headlining with their 350 metre, high octane rowing action on the water.
More than 250 boats of varying shapes and sizes will be tied up at every available mooring along a four-mile stretch of the Harbourside, with familiar sights such as the SS Great Britain and the Matthew all set to appear.
There’s so much entertainment to keep you engaged, including music at the huge outdoor concert area “the Lloyds Amphitheatre”, top quality circus and street theatre acts from Circus Bijou.  Western Boat Show, showcasing all kinds of sailing boats and power boats, rowing competitions, general fun and games in the water, dedicated family areas, plus the Continental Food Market at Queens Square, a fantastic line-up from across France, Italy, Spain and Germany providing olives, cheese, crepes and more, an experience for the taste buds together with traditional gifts and crafts and lots of Harbourside fun for everyone.
Travel – Head for the City Centre, follow signs for Harbour Festival.  Further travel info Here.
