Luke swam through the murky waters of the ocean, the sunlight and the forest of seaweed tinting the water an unusual shade of green. He could feel something thrashing around in the water and seeing as he was hungry, this seemed like a good opportunity to remedy that specific problem.

Typically only bottomfeeders and very fast and small fish liked to hang around this part of the sea, as it was his territory and he was notorious for his voracious and broad appetite, but hey he couldn’t account for the stupidity of the land mammals and sea creatures that occasionally decided intruding on a mermaid’s turf was a good idea.

As he swam closer and closer, he noticed that the movement stopped. Good, he thought, it was always easier to eat prey that had died beforehand.

But when he got a closer look, he noticed that the creature was a human, and a small one too. 

Too small to be an adult...

Luke himself had no problems killing humans, he had killed dozens and dozens of pirates and fishermen, but something about killing one of their frylings didn’t sit right with him. And letting it die didn’t seem to be a good option either.

The shore was very nearby, it wouldn’t take long just to drop it off... But again, there was always the risk of being seen and captured.

“I’ll get it done quickly.” He decided, thinking to himself. “I’ll bring the fryling to the land just to get him out of here. If he drowns again, then I’ll eat him.”

Quickly, Luke sped towards the figure, grabbing them in his arms and pulling their figure along the water at a phenomenal speed, making sure their head stayed above the water. 

It hadn’t been long until Luke saw the salty shores of a nearby isle. Luke had no idea if it was sustainable for the young child, but he couldn’t bring himself to care too much and he was glad to be rid of him all the same.

Gently, he laid the human’s unconscious form onto the beach, waiting to see if it was even still alive. With closer inspection, he noticed that this human happened to be a male with pale skin, hair the color of a Brown Rockfish, and he smelt of sweat and a bit of iron.

It was very interesting, to see a human not intent to kill or capture him for once. 

Luke found himself observing the human child, making a mental note of each thing he may be able to use against another human.

Suddenly, the child sat up slightly and coughed, water spilling out of his mouth, Luke found himself unable to react quickly, frozen in place.
