Why did the inmates cut Luigi Mangione's eyebrows?

We know what the message they cut into his eyebrows means in local prison code by the way. The number of notches, location, and placement all change the meaning.

For anyone not knowing what to look for, here's what his natural brows look like vs the brows the prison rallied together to have done:

Apparently the way they did his eyebrows is a warning from his previous fellow inmates, directed to inmates of MDC. It means no one, absolutely no one, better lay a finger on him. ESPECIALLY not sexually. They will hunt down anyone who abuses him; every last one of them. It may mean by extension that he's been honorarily accepted, and will be defended by, local gangs.

I need to remind you, they came together to ensure he got this haircut and notches cut into his brow, at all costs, before his relocation. According to the prison staff, this has never happened before. There's some powerful people in there looking out for him.

Now consider the fact he arrived at this prison with this code written on his forehead; a threat from an entire previous prison population of immeasurable violence should you fuck with their guy. And what's the first thing he does? He uses all his money from his hoards of global adoring fans to hand out candy bars and gifts to all the inmates. It is no wonder he is already massively popular with the inmates of the new prison as well.

- Mail must have his full name (Luigi Nicholas Mangione) and register number (52503-511).

- Mail will be opened and inspected by staff, so content must be kept appropriate or else it will be rejected. Do not talk about the incident. Talk to him like a friend.

These suggestions are collected from @renegadeforjustice (TikTok):

- Use plain paper.

- Use plain black/blue pen or pencil.

- Greeting cards can be included but they have to be as simple as possible (one piece of folded paper without any layer, embossing, glitter, or other extra material).

"At all Bureau institutions, an inmate may receive hardcover publications and newspapers only from the publisher, from a book club, or from a bookstore.”

“At medium security, high security, and administrative institutions, an inmate may receive softcover publications (for example, paperback books, newspaper clippings, magazines, and other similar items) only from the publisher, from a book club, or from a bookstore."

- Books, magazines, and newspapers can only be sent to him by the publisher/bookstore/book club themselves. You cannot mail it to him yourself. When ordering, put Luigi as the recipient.
