Fingerprints Lead to Arrest in 1998 Cold Case Murder: Cops
More than 20 years after a woman was murdered in a South Florida consignment shop, police have arrested a man they say is responsible for her killing after authorities said fingerprints he submitted to a potential employer matched those found at the scene.
Todd Barket, 51, was taken into custody Wednesday morning on a first-degree murder charge in the August 1998 killing of 68-year-old Sondra Better, Delray Beach Police officials said.

Police say Better was working at Lu Shay’s Consignment Shop on South Federal Highway alone when she was violently stabbed and bludgeoned to death. The killer left blood at the scene and fingerprints on a heavy decorative ball, police said.
The killer's fingerprints and blood samples were entered into national databases but there were no matches until December 2018, when Barket submitted his fingerprints for a background check by a potential employer, officials said.

Not only did the fingerprints match, DNA found at the scene also matched Barket, authorities said. Barket, who was 29 years old at the time, lived in nearby Lantana at the time of the killing and matched the description of a man who was seen by a witness discussing the price of a couch with Better at the shop just before the murder, police said.
Barket was being held in the Hillsborough County jail without bond Wednesday, and will be extradited to Palm Beach County. Attorney information wasn't available.

So it did happen finally, a lot of changes in one logo.
All the books you have seen in the blog all this time, and a lot more, all the books in the collection, ( for it is an official one now ) will be in San Telmo Museoa in San Sebastian (Donostia, in Basque language) from now on, with a 10 years renewable contract. This will take a few months, the time to organize the Museum library in order to receive around 1400 photobooks, but it’s already begun.
  https://www.santelmomuseoa.eus/index.php?option=com_flexicontent&view=items&id=119&Itemid=30&lang=es&idn=59874
So…that is a big change for me. The books will no longer be close to me, and i sure will miss them. But they will not be very far, and it’s an important point.
Not only because i’ve always liked , and talked about it very often, the company of them, the touch and feeling of the paper, the smell, the pleasure or pain the photographs bring, the knowledge, the absolute sensation of being alive and part of a bigger world among them. Yes the books are alive !
But also because the main idea was to share the experience with a lot more people than it was possible from my house, and to make it a rich and productive one, for every body from here to whereever it may go…
San Telmo Museum was born in 1902, Museum on Basque Society and Citizenship, it has been recently renovated with new objectives. It is not hudge, but welcoming, at the very historical center of my birth town. It has proven its will and deepest interest in photography these last years, and is programming exhibitions and activities around it, along with the collection.
Yesterday, as first encounter, we had the pleasure and priviledge to hear Kazuma Obara talk about his work and books. Many more will follow i am sure, workshops, talks, national and international encounters and experiences, very diverse activities.
I don’t want to sound pretentious, this is a small ambition in a small photobook world. A small step, but a meaningful one i hope. Photobooks will remain when we no longer will be around, someone said… If in the meantime we can together try to make more people comprehend the power and beauty they can contain, i will be happy.
The collection will increase, little by little, and the blog will continue as it is. All the books  i will continue to buy or receive will be part of the collection.
So, this is no end, only the first day and the first step in a long walk, i hope. From now on, these books are a little less mine, and a little more yours, to read, touch, smell, learn and enjoy. Please, take the time to visit, feel at home if you want, you are all welcome!
There is a long list all people who made this possible, and i want to thank them all… Susana Soto, director of San Telmo Museum, so enthusiast from the beginning, the chief ! ; Juan Pablo Huercanos, without whom nothing…; Lurdes Basolí and Jon Cazenave, so good friends and counsellors from the start to the end; Santiago Noain Maura, from manoestudio, who designed the beautiful logo of the collection that i’m so proud of; the Photobook Club of San Sebastian, who loved the books from the very first day; Bonifacio Barrio Hijosa, master of photobookjockey and good advices; Annakarin Quinto, the most generous; my family for the constant support; Lu Lantana for being around always, the best of friend, you know ! Thank you all, from my heart. Manu, this is for you.
No quiere parecer pretenciosa.
( 6,7,8,12,13,14,18,19 )
