Happy Holidays, students! We here at ABHQ wanted to say a huge thank you to all of our members. You’ve all participated so well in recent events, and have made our rp holidays so special! We love you all dearly, and we wanted to give your characters a little holiday gift of their own just to say thank you for being wonderful.....

It will never be discovered just who was behind it, but each and every student awoke this morning to find a present sitting on their doorstep, or to find an owl interrupting their breakfast, nearly dropping a parcel in their cereal bowls. A small note seems to be attached to every single gift, neatly detailing what they all were in need of, or what their heart desired, whether they knew it or not. Better not tell the professors if you received something scandalous, students!

(Please note that if your character has received a pet or item of some kind that doesn’t comply with Hogwarts rules or one that can slide under the radar safely, they have been delivered to and must stay at their character’s home!)

Some of these gifts aren’t obviously the most attainable or realistic of gifts, but that’s all part of the fun! We wanted to spoil you all and show you just how much we appreciate you being a part of the rp, as we fast approach the one year mark!

To Sever the Skyline

This post took a lot of mental energy for me to start, let alone the additional energy that will take me to write this whole thing (plus working simultaneously doesn’t help things, either). It’s been something that’s been in the back of my mind for a long time, and something that I’ve been trying to find the best way to make this transition and announcement. 

So, let me tell you blatantly what’s happening:

This is my final post on this blog. I’m archiving this blog, leaving the RPC, and deleting my discord altogether.

A Black Moonrise

To start, I want to give a little bit of a story about myself.

When I first joined the Pokémon Roleplay scene with my Bagon blog back in 2016, I was in one of the worst mental states that I’ve ever been. I was in my Sophomore year of college dealing with a ton of friend problems, tons of drama, and slowly reeling in the possibility that the destruction of my social life and mental state was, at least to a significant degree, due to my actions and mentality at the time. I recall becoming at the point of nearly giving up -- to leave everything that I’ve worked hard on for all of these years… that everything was going to crash down at that very moment….

Then, a friend of mine introduced me to roleplaying on Tumblr. My best friend introduced me to the concept so I could have a way to escape my deteriorating mental condition and have somewhere to channel my frustrations in a healthy manner while utilizing my love of writing and storytelling. After some discussion, I decided to join. I originally intended for this journey to be a short one, used as a way to connect with new friends and work on my writing skills in a time of need.

If I knew that things would have developed a lot more than that, then I’m not sure how I would have felt.

What was intended to be a four month journey turned into a 4-year one. Throughout this time, I’ve interacted and made friends with so many wonderful people, learned many lessons on storytelling, person-to-person interaction, and so much more. I loved so many moments of being in this community, from Sun and Moon’s release to Ultra Beast events to crack posts to events of my own such as Unbalanced and Anti-Dimension….

So, why am I making this post? Why am I finally taking the plunge and deciding to leave?

For progression… and my mental health. It’s time that I finally move on.

The Celestial Resort

Much has changed in my life over the 4 years that I’ve been in this community. I reconnected with some of my former friends from that fateful event, but never was able to get the band together again. I withdrew from my university back in 2018 after constant panic attacks and mental breakdowns for 2 terms. I managed to eventually land a stable job and currently live in an apartment alone, attempting to regather myself, finish my college degree, and eventually become the videogame designer that I always wanted to be….

Yet, despite this, my habits haven’t changed all that much. I spend the majority of my free time either talking about my muses and storylines or working on drafts and replies or working on icons… And whenever I’m not doing that, I’m either sitting there and playing either Destiny or League of Legends with one of my groups of rp friends. Thus, by the time I want to work on side projects such as my Pokémon Dating Sim RPG, various game jams, art, music, or anything, I become burned out and just stare into the everlasting void until it’s either time to sleep, time to work, or time to interact with my RP friends again.

It’s been a never ending cycle of personal stagnation, something that’s been bothering me for some time. 

Week after week, I wake up with the hope and anticipation that this will be the week that I’ll break through… that I’ll truly gain that drive to be myself and become that developer that I’ve been meaning to be… that I’ll finally release my dream game (and many smaller games) so that I can rise above, leave my current job, and start my career as a game developer… as an artist. Yet, there’s something that crawls over my head, leaving me to come back to roleplay for longer than I always expect:

Loneliness.

Loneliness has been casted over my head for what has felt like all of my life, and has been the driving factor for this loop of stagnation… the tool that drives me to come here week by week, making innocuous posts that either lead nowhere or blow up for the next 3 hours (or even 5 days in some cases). Loneliness is what drove me to engage in friendships that, while not toxic itself, facilitated my self-destructive behavior and toxic mentality… friendships that eventually led to events like the Shokiko fallout in 2017 with Kevin and Bibi, the NSFW Callout in 2018 with Stormy and Diana (I’m not saying the actual name of the series of events here), or even the Story of the Minecraft House with Stormy, Nebby, and Mari in 2019…. Even worse, the loneliness even drove me to engage in relishing in various callouts and dramas throughout the fandom where I had no business putting my nose in and annoyances of people of whom I had barely spoken to such as Nox and Ky. 

Yet, I never attempted to truly combat that loneliness. Instead, I attempted to roleplay further as a means to cope with it… a means to find value in my life even if things were starting to fall apart.

I will take that no longer.

A Golden Feather

Back in 2018, I played a videogame that was called Celeste, an independently-developed 2D platformer created by Matt Makes Games. The game was known for its satisfying and challenging difficulty, but also for its story’s themes of depression and mental health. I first played the game at possibly the lowest point in recent years. I was in my senior year, struggling to get myself out of bed. I had just been fired from one of my two jobs, had just barely avoided being kicked out of college, was behind in classes, and had an uncertain idea of how to proceed with myself, both if I were to graduate or if I were to fail. Worse yet, I had also encountered a breakup later on in May after I had been informed that my significant other at the time had been lying about their age, couldn’t afford to eat, and hadn’t had contact with my foster parents in a long time.

So, when I played Celeste for the first (and second and third) time, something resonated within me. Something was calling out to me, telling me that, while I was starting to take a turn for the worse, there was something that I could do with myself… something that I can discover within myself to break the barrier and become the dragon that I’ve always wanted to be…. But, first, I had to do something immediately so I could go on that path.

So, I withdrew from university. 

I intended to return to school soon, but I wanted to give myself the stability and time to finally address the problems within my life. I wanted to find myself once again so I could graduate, finish that chapter of my life, and be on track to develop games and experiences that I would be proud of. 

However, despite not fully finding myself throughout the past 2 years, the themes of dealing with mental health and depression stuck with me. Something was trying to wake up, telling me that the withdrawal was a good first step, but that I had to be steadfast and take the time as I, and I alone, saw fit. So, I kept going, managing to have a final encounter with my abusive mother and be in a place where I have the time and the stability to work on myself. In fact, I have been in this state for the past year and a half: a place where I have the time and power to shape my destiny and arm myself with the skills and tools to show the real world that I will do what I want to do, and that there’s nothing that can stop me...

Magic Mirror

...except, for the past year and a half, I have not done that. Instead, I have sat on the same computer, typing storyline after storyline of the misadventures of Zinnia and Rayquaza to cope instead of chasing my dreams. I’ve spent the past several years attempting to fill the gap of my existence with those who also cared for me and for the stories that I chose to tell.

Do not get me wrong, I do not regret enjoying myself with the times I’ve shared with many of you. I’ve come to love so many people with various writing styles, tastes, and outlooks on life; however, in constantly surrounding myself with roleplaying, I have not given myself the time, patience, or mental fortitude to heal from old wounds and, instead, allowed it to fester as an emotional infection. One could almost call it an addiction, looking to do that next big reveal, to have all eyes on my proverbial stage, for all to awe at what I have done next. Maybe if I could have that next jump when killing off Violet or that next shock moment when telling my friends that the Kimono Lady Zuki was the first Lorekeeper who was made immortal, maybe I could use that energy to push forward with myself.

Maybe it was that chase that exemplified my loneliness. Perhaps it is time for it to end and focus on myself.

Reflection

This decision took a lot of my will to make. Even when writing this, It pains me that I have to leave so much behind -- my friends, my stories, my memories…. While I know that this decision will be better for me in the long-run, I still ache and fear the idea that I am doing this. Confronting Myself is painful. I want to cry…. I want to change my mind and run… run away from my problems once more… that maybe I can push this to tomorrow or next week--

However, there will be No More Running… no more attempts to protect myself from my problems. No more sitting still while the world passes me by. No more weeks where I feel worse than the start because that’s another week that’s gone by without any progression. It’s time that I take action, time that I finally leave this life behind in my pursuit of true happiness, and to finally find that calling that I had felt 2 years ago.

So, I will stay true to myself and stick to the principles that I hold dear. 

This is the final post of this blog. This post will be pinned and left for everyone to see. I am also formally resigning from National Icon Dex. My discord account is also marked for deletion in the next 14 days. Many of you who are my friend on discord may not have another way of contacting me when doing so. This is intentional. I want to leave this era of my life completely behind, with no trace of temptation to return (whether consciously or subconsciously), and, so, I am cutting contact with many of those who I consider my friends. I am aware that this action is disrespectful to the close bonds that I have shared with many of you, and that this may be the final thing that you may ever hear from me, but I wanted to say a single thing and ask a single request to my friends… 

To my dear friends… my former Destiny clan… my Shokiko residents… those formerly a part of WDML… to the Delta Legion to my Zinnia shippers and Elysium residents and Battle Chateau members… to even individuals that I cherished and trusted so long: thank you. Thank you for being there for me when I needed it most. Thank you for giving me a voice when I felt voiceless. Thank you for giving me a time and place to smile and laugh when I was in a time of despair. Thank you for hearing my crazy ideas and building on them. However, I would like to ask for one thing… if you truly cherish our friendship:

Do not try to contact me.

After this post is released, please do not attempt to speak with me. Do not find me on other social media locations to discuss anything with me. Do not ask our mutual roleplay friends about me. Do not ask my real life friends about me. I will be fine. I will continue to live my life so that I may, one day, become the dragon that I was always meant to be. I am making this request not in malice or due to any bad blood, but for my own mental and emotional safety. If you truly think of me as a friend or as any being worthy of respect, then I would like for you to think of this as our final message. I pray upon the Holy Dragon that your future will be well, and that you will be as I hope to become one day: whole and happy with yourself. 

Nonetheless, for everyone: thank you all for reading this message and for listening to a dragon on the internet for so long. I hope that, whenever you next hear of me, I can prove that I have truly moved on and seek to become a better person. The future is and has always been scary, but it’s the actions that we take in the present that will help to influence that future.

sp alien mc: i lvoe the fact that even though she was betrayed in the past by a lover, she couldn’t help falling in love again. i like how she works through those feelings :D

gil mc: this one. this mc is so funny. from how she talks back to the gang, to how she’s a total fucking badass in a pink hairbow......... she’s made me laugh so much, just. i love it. i love her.
