Los Angeles burns tonight, just beyond the apartment we kept on Sunset Blvd. The canyon burns, and the people flee. I spent the day pacing the house in its eternal sunrise, writing a fucking song about you—as I always seem to—and all the while, my city burns. Your old home burns, and you still don’t say a word.
It’s been a year and a half, Ella. God forbid you check in on me. YOUR OLD CITY IS BURNING. DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND IT IS OKAY TO CARE for those you once cared for when their fucking city is on fire?
I am writing a song about you. Hours I spend working its lines and grooves, and yes, still the city burns, and no, still you say nothing. Your mother says nothing. Your father says nothing. Your Nonnie says nothing.
Are you happy now? Is this what you wished for? To alienate me so far from your precious life that, when my fucking city burns—yes, the one we called home—even then, I hear nothing. Not a text. Not a call.
It’s stupid, all of it. People are losing everything, and I am upset over selfish wounds that still have not healed. This is not what matters, yet I write it to clear it from my mind.
Don’t waste me in your prayers. I am safe. Pray for my home, if you’d like, and pray for the thousands void of a lifetime of possessions and treasures. For animals afraid and searching amongst the ash and rubble. Pray for them, if you may.
-
I hate when I grow this angry but the fires in my home and your silence got to me for a moment.

[ID: a screenshot of a Reddit post. The title is, “Anyone else postponing their trip to Disneyland this weekend because of the terrible fires?” The body text says, “I kinda got the ick in going there while everyone’s houses are burning down. Sort of a buzz kill, and might affect the magic of the trip for me to see everyone all sad and stuff.” End ID.]

lightly doxxing myself, but it’s looking more and more likely that I’ll have to evacuate because of the los angeles fires. if that’s the case, i’ll probably go dark for a while. will let y’all know if that happens, but in the meantime stay safe, stay optimistic, and if you can, use this as an excuse to get out of work!

so, most of this is accurate and i have no quibble with it - watchduty is great, the resnicks are awful, the conspiracy theory folks are a boil on the butt of humanity. however, the first little bit at the top about the firefighters is hyperbolic and inaccurate, and it’s getting spread around a lot, so i’m just adding some context here, because accuracy is important : https://www.politico.com/news/2025/01/08/wildfire-threatens-karen-bass-extended-honeymoon-00197228?nname=playbook&nid=0000014f-1646-d88f-a1cf-5f46b7bd0000&nrid=dc17af68-fbd6-4816-b542-880b5b9516f9&nlid=630318

Southern California is on fire
In 2024, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass defunded the LA Fire Department by $17.3 million.
The LA Police Department, however, got a $138 million budget increase.
Among the firefighters, 30% of them are inmate firefighters who are risking their lives for $2 an hour. Only for them to not be able to get a job as a firefighter once they're released.
There are now 4 fires burning across Socal. The one getting the most attention is the Palisades fire which has grown to over 11,000 acres. Alongside it is the Altadena fire (over 10,000 acres), Hurst fire (700 acres), and Lidia fire (50 acres).
Due to the unprecedented Santa Ana winds, which have blown to over 100 mph, firefighters have not been able to make a dent on these fires.
A thousand homes have been destroyed. Two people lost their lives from the Altadena fires.
Instead of showing sympathy for the thousands of victims, right wing conspiracy theorists on twitter are blaming the fires on LA Fire Chief, who is a lesbian, while Trump is blaming CA Governor Gavin Newsom for not removing water from a delta that would have endangered a native species.
Not climate change. Not the Resnicks, a billionaire couple who took control of California's water supply and now use over 150 billion gallons every year for their companies.
If you're in Southern California, please download the Watch Duty app. It brings up to date information on the fires along with evacuation zones. If officials tell you to evacuate, you do it. Make sure you look up shelters and mutual aid organizations where you'll evacuate to. If you have to abandon your car, please move it to the side or leave your keys in the car so firefighters can move it out of the way.
The consequences of this disaster will be catastrophic. It's become increasingly clear that our government officials will not protect us as they would rather fill their own pockets. Stick together. Protect your community as best as you can.
Please keep Southern California in your thoughts. We're going to need them.

Fellow Californians,
The fire now has 0 percent containment and several areas now have no water in the hydrants anymore. People have now died in the fire.
If asked to evacuate, please do so.
Quickly Take photos of the interiors of each room in your home for insurance purposes.
Anything too large to take with you, take a photo.
Clothes, food, firearms, family photos, passports, SSNs, birth certificates, medical records, and anything of significance should be taken with you.
Small but high value items should also be taken with you (tablets, spare phones, game consoles, computers) as people have been looting evacuated homes in the past and it might happen again this year.
As for me, many of my neighbors are now evacuating even tho my area doesn’t have an order yet. We are just on the edge of the evacuation order.
I can see the fire from my property.
I’m now packing my bags for when the order happens.
I wish all my fellow Californians the best. Be safe.

fuck's sake people, CBS Los Angeles is just reporting that a water tanker plane (super scooper?) was forced to land with a hole in it after colliding with someone's drone over the wildfire. Was it worth it to get your epic shot? Was it worth the internet points you were going to get by posting it? Your fifteen minutes of fame by selling it to the news that already has plenty of shots of the fire already? Get a grip, people

Remember Papa told us to take care of each other
I know that we Ghost fans love our Ministry building's IRL location, and have likely heard it survived the fires in California - maybe with some damage, but it survived. I have seen mentions of finding ways to donate to the repairs.
But I'd like to remind you that as a business, they're probably going to be okay. If they open donations later on after assessing the damage and insurance coverage etc., and you want to donate, great, do that.
Please consider donating to more immediate relief for those who are not and will not be as well off as they are or any other celebrities will be.
Multiple insurance companies canceled fire coverage in homeowner policies or stopped offering it to new clients. By multiple they mean 7 out of 12 providers. Why? To avoid paying out for repairs because they can't up the insurance premiums high enough due to state regulations (which probably protect the consumer over the corporation - but I could be wrong, I'm not in California.) The areas affected don't usually see these kinds of fires, and it's not the usual fire season for California either.
So where to donate? Find GoFundMe options if you want to give directly to someone, or here are a few options for agencies. GoFundMe has created a central hub for donating to fire relief in general, and has a list of vetted/confirmed fundraising efforts for people and small organizations.
ABC 7 News has compiled a list with descriptions of what each is doing, so I won't bother to copy and paste that here, just know it has everything from Red Cross to Humane Society, so you can donate to whatever tickles your fancy.
California Fire Foundation is supporting efforts.
If you have been impacted by the fires, a resource from ABC 7 News about how to get help, specifically food and care. Federal care is rolling out, so make sure you try to stay on top of that and how to get it. Be careful of sources telling you that you won't be eligible or that it's not coming etc.
If you are in the impacted areas, I hope you're safe and well, and can stay that way. If you have loved ones in the area, I hope they're safe and well, and stay that way. If you or loved ones haven't been able to stay safe and well, I'm so, so sorry.

PLEASE DONATE!!! This is our best way of helping as citizens, i know many of us don’t live in L.A. so if you have the money to do so please donate to these causes. They really need our help and support so more people don’t get displaced and the people that have sadly lost their homes have a support system.

The hills of LA are on fire In January When there used to be a reprieve.
The malnourished plants Are tinder dry now When water prepared them for spring.
I watched my own state on fire All summer long. Will my temperate rainforest all burn?
And now in the winter I watch firetrap canyons far to the south Suffer the same fate.
Our ecosystems need fire The first peoples guided it It lashed out at colonizers failing to stop it.
It burned in the summer Clearing the dying plants So that winter brought new life.
In the halls of power They say climate change is a hoax And yet I see the climate changing.
The hills of LA are on fire In January When there used to be a reprieve.
