I spent the day pacing the house in its eternal sunrise, writing a fucking song about you—as I always seem to—and all the while, my city burns. Your old home burns, and you still don’t say a word.

It’s been a year and a half, Ella. God forbid you check in on me. YOUR OLD CITY IS BURNING. DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND IT IS OKAY TO CARE for those you once cared for when their fucking city is on fire?

I am writing a song about you. Hours I spend working its lines and grooves, and yes, still the city burns, and no, still you say nothing. Your mother says nothing. Your father says nothing. Your Nonnie says nothing.

Are you happy now? Is this what you wished for? To alienate me so far from your precious life that, when my fucking city burns—yes, the one we called home—even then, I hear nothing. Not a text. Not a call.

It’s stupid, all of it. People are losing everything, and I am upset over selfish wounds that still have not healed. This is not what matters, yet I write it to clear it from my mind.

Don’t waste me in your prayers. I am safe. Pray for my home, if you’d like, and pray for the thousands void of a lifetime of possessions and treasures. For animals afraid and searching amongst the ash and rubble. Pray for them, if you may.

I know everyone on here has a lot on their plates and that there’s tragedies going on in communities all over the world but as of this evening (1/10), the LA fires’ death toll has increased to 11 with over 9000 homes and business having been destroyed. It’s not a stretch to say that every Californian outside of LA has a friend or loved one in Los Angeles, and that any LA resident who hasn’t been affected personally knows someone who has.

Right now, residents of Los Angeles are facing severely dangerous air qualities, power outages, and windstorms, and many have no access to clean drinking water. To cut costs, insurance companies in California no longer write new home insurance policies for homes in high-fire risk areas, and many victims of this week’s fires had their policies cancelled without warning in the last year.

Even once the fires are eventually contained (and as of right now, the two biggest fires are both less than 10% contained), thousands of people will be displaced, without homes, schools, and jobs to return to.

A friend of mine put together this spreadsheet to collect donation links for individuals and families that have lost their homes in the fires, as well as organizations helping on the ground.

If you have anything to spare, consider tossing a few dollars to a campaign or mutual aid organization here, as LA will be facing a devastating rebuilding process over the next few years.

pasadena humane has taken in 300+ animals affected by the Eaton fire in los angeles. as of today, calfire has given the nonprofit animal shelter the greenlight to go into the burn areas of the Eaton fire. the team anticipates a heartbreaking scene.

as their teams head directly into the affected areas, pasadena humane urgently needs monetary donations to help purchase medical supplies and other resources as they anticipate a significant increase in the number of burned and injured animals coming to their shelter.

Was it worth it to get your epic shot? Was it worth the internet points you were going to get by posting it? Your fifteen minutes of fame by selling it to the news that already has plenty of shots of the fire already? Get a grip, people

Fellow Californians,

The fire now has 0 percent containment and several areas now have no water in the hydrants anymore. People have now died in the fire.

If asked to evacuate, please do so.

Quickly Take photos of the interiors of each room in your home for insurance purposes.

Anything too large to take with you, take a photo.

Clothes, food, firearms, family photos, passports, SSNs, birth certificates, medical records, and anything of significance should be taken with you.

Small but high value items should also be taken with you (tablets, spare phones, game consoles, computers) as people have been looting evacuated homes in the past and it might happen again this year.

As for me, many of my neighbors are now evacuating even tho my area doesn’t have an order yet. We are just on the edge of the evacuation order.

I can see the fire from my property.

I’m now packing my bags for when the order happens.
