Oh yeah i should upload my art on tumblr too The villains! The girlies! The women's wrongs!
I wanted to have text on this where mera and zora were angrily fighting over the arsene amulet while lori had no idea wtf it was. but it looked bad, so I just made the file name "what is this thing? ...a steal thing?" and called it a day
Happy 5th anniversary epithet! feels more like 2 lmao! stream was very fun!

or maybe... hear me out.... there is in fact no villain because that's just how it works in life normally... and if you can recognise that emily is in fact a complex and flawed person who can act both lovingly and selfishly then that same logic also applies to rory who was literally just a 15-22 year old who messed up sometimes........

I fucking love Vanessa Marano's energy when she read the casting breakdown for April.
Tumblr media
'I'm going to hate her - I must play her'
Like she realised she was going to play a character who would be hated by the majority of the fanbase. including herself, but it was one of her favourite shows so she didn't care, she was going to take the opportunity.

I'd like to hear about your oc lore. It's always interesting to hear about.
*slams book shut* EXCUSE TO TALK ABOUT NEW STORY CONCEPT!
So, a little while ago, the title "The Damsel & The Damned" popped into my head, which is inspiration enough on its own... and that led me to decide to answer the age-old question: what if a princess trapped in a tower made a deal with a demon in order to escape, and what if that demon was a burnt-out millenial dealing with a curse of their own? And what if I used their story to better flesh out my homebrew D&D setting?
The story follows the adventures of Adelina Carletti Lapina, an elven princess (half-high elf, half-drow) who is every bit your typical fairy-tale princess save for two things: fifty years of being imprisoned has made her want to live as much as possible, making her the most reckless person you'll ever meet... and she is an incredibly powerful necromancer, in a world where that kind of magic is strictly forbidden. Traveling alongside her, and desperately trying to keep her alive, is her new warlock patron---Romiera "Romi" Wrath, who is actually not strictly a demon, but a devilkin (this world's version of a tiefling) who was raised in Hell by their dad. And living in Hell as the child of an incredibly powerful archdevil has caused Romi to inherit all of their father's powers... which are not in any way suited for a mortal body, and could quite literally kill them unless they share their abilities with someone else.
As the two make their way through the world, they attempt to uncover Adelina's past, which she's all but forgotten, and to figure out who imprisoned her in the first place. Along their way, they find some allies:
Hilda Brosgul, a middle-aged orcish swashbuckler who's the latest in a long line of accomplished adventurers. She's lived a life of sailing through the open seas, standing up for the downtrodden and fighting gigantic sea monsters, but her wild lifestyle wound up causing a rift between her and her wife, and she hasn't exactly been taking the separation well. Romi and Adelina find Hilda at rock bottom, and after she helps them out in a skirmish and proves to them---and herself---that she's still a capable fighter, she winds up tagging along with them as their self-appointed protector.
Kassius Heller, a formerly-human vampire alchemist whose existence has been greatly hindered by the fact that he's never been able to stomach killing anything, even to survive. Luckily, he's also a brilliant mad scientist, and has been able to create a substitution for blood---kind of like Marceline in Adventure Time, though it's not quite as simple as just eating shades of red. They meet him at a science exhibition, and he and Adelina get along almost immediately, bonding in a way that only insatiably curious queer nerds can. His intelligence, boundless optimism, and undead nature endear him to Romi and Hilda pretty quickly, too, as all of those traits are key when you're trying to survive.
Matilda "Tilly" Trinket, a fairy of the Seelie Court who used to be one of Queen Titania's most loyal knights, but now that the fey have evolved with the times (in their own odd way) and have no real interest in waging wars, she now works as the queen's personal secretary, and she takes that job just as seriously. After the gang winds up in the Faerie Realm in order to speak to Titania (for... reasons I haven't yet figured out), they get to meet Tilly, who admits that though she loves spreadsheets and paperwork and keeping things shipshape, she does kind of miss her old days of swinging her little sword around and smiting her enemies with the power of chaotic fey magic. Titania hears this and gives Tilly a special mission---to follow Adelina and the others and to keep them safe, in the way that only a true knight of the Seelie can. Tilly absolutely becomes the voice of logic and reason in the group, even more so than Romi... even if it's very clear that she's a bit out of practice when it comes to intense, battle-heavy moments, and that her smaller size does pose a slight disadvantage. She's still the best lawful whatever-the-fey-see-as-good fairy godmother, though.
And throughout it all, shadowy forces follow Adelina wherever she goes, the most mysterious one of all being a reanimated, stitched-together huntsman. Adelina only has dim memories of him from her first days in the tower... but Kassius knows him as Julio Delgado, an old friend from his university days. A friend whose father married the widow of the most powerful and wicked necromancer the world has ever seen.
A necromancer who had a daughter, Lorelai de Crypt. And she's hell-bent on proving that she can do everything he can... except, of course, be defeated.

When people act like Lorelai was the real villain or that she was ungrateful to Richard and Emily I'm like did we watch the same show???
Do y'all remember the first episode where Emily and Richard did nothing but berate Lorelai?
Don't y'all remember that scene where Lorelai thanked Richard for defending her against Christopher's parents and then he told her he didn't defend her he was just defending the family name and that she put him and Emily through a lot and brought shame to the family.
Or that other scene where Emily saw that Lorelai was happy with Luke to the point where she was fantasizing about marrying him and then Emily ran to Christopher about it and her entire rationale for wanting Christopher to stop Lorelai from marrying Luke and marry him instead had nothing to do with Lorelai's happiness as Emily was well aware that Lorelai was too good for Christopher it was about how Christopher came from a good and rich family and Luke did not.

reading gilmore girls posts or magazine articles that are like "maturing is realising rory and lorelai are the real villains of gilmore girls" is always so funny to me because the level of vitriol these thinkpieces use you'd think they killed someone and pinned the blame on an innocent bystander who then got executed for it.
and when you read the rest of it and its like... "lorelai has commitment issues and rory is a perfectionist and also lorelai was rude after emily subtly insulted her for the 280th time that episode".

my unpopular gilmore girls opinions (like actually):
-i don’t mind lane’s husband zach. like i think he was kind of a moron but he stepped up to the plate and was consistantly there for lane. why do people want lane to pine for dave 10 years later like he was her one and only soulmate instead of a really cool guy who was a really cool guy bc he wasn’t on the show long enough to get a villain arc. i think the problem with lane’s storyline is that she didn’t get to go out on an adventure, not that she settled down with zach instead of dave. i would have been pissed if she got pregnant and stayed in SH for life even if it was with dave.
-i don’t think everything that went wrong with luke and jess was jess’ fault and that he only had himself to blame for getting kicked out. like luke taking jess in no questions asked was a really great gesture but he didn’t know what he was doing from that point on. him doing a nice thing doesn’t mean he’s somehow abow getting slightly critisised for handling a lot of things wrong. like i do think a 17-18 yo is entitled to a place to stay without conditions and despite screwing things up and luke needed to either fully be that person or not at all
-i often hear ”rory said no to logan’s proposal just to be his mistress later, she should have just said yes”, which… no, it’s ok to want something at 32 that you didn’t want at 22 (disclaimer: it’s not ok to sleep with someone else’s fiancee). i even hear a lot of people say rory should have said yes to logan even without bringing up AYITL and i really don’t understand why this is the general opinion. and i’m not saying this because i’m team jess over logan, i wouldn’t have wanted jess and rory to get married at 22 either. we’ve known since season 1 that rory has dreams and plans to travel and when logan proposed and they presented it as kind of a 50/50 thing i was baffled because ofc it’s a no. also if someone tells you ”either we get married or we break up”, always break up!!!
-luke and lorelai… are not compat- i mean initially they were cute, but just on a fundamental level- i mean… ok actually i’m not brave enough to go there, maybe in the next post. all i’m saying is that i rooted for them as much as the next guy and that they probably wouldn’t have been truly content if they never gave a relationship a go and they’d probably always be jealous of the other’s romantic relationships a little bit BUT that they’re too different (both personality wise and in handling stuff in general) to actually create a life together. they work in the diner setting but seeing each other 24/7 and agreeing on day to day decisions? idk. oops, looks like i went there anyways. also i’m not saying i don’t like them together, in fact they’re together in every single gilmore girls universe i have in my head but yk
-jess wasn’t the best boyfriend but a lot of their issues was rory subconsciously comparing what jess did with what dean would have done and their relationship was never going to work with such a fresh breakup hanging over them like that. the issue of jess not calling rory and making a plan and rory being mad that she had to sit around and wait for him to do it for example is not jess being malicious, it’s just them genuinely having different expectations and ideas of what a relationship is which could have been solved with a) some communication and b) dean and lorelai not breathing down their necks and preying on their downfall
-i think lorelai could stand to butt out of rory’s life and be a bit nicer to her step-nephew but i’m always gonna back her when it comes to her parents. i have no patience for the ”richard and emily weren’t that bad”-crowd. i’m tired of hearing ”lorelai is pissed because she gets thousands of dollars in exchange for a free meal, is she stoopid?” when it’s so much deeper than that. her sacrificing her own boundries for the sake of rory’s education is actually quite admirable (would emily swallow her pride and values and do something like that?). bc now i actually love emily as a character and enjoy her more than the gilmore girls sometimes. and as an audience we can obviously see that she cares about lorelai. but it’s emily’s responsibility to actually make lorelai feel that. because even tho emily thinks she did what was best for lorelai, it clearly did not make lorelai feel loved, because it was all according to what emily herself wanted.
-i don’t think this is that unpopular but i’ve heard many different takes on this. if lorelai wanted to be overdramatic about rory fracturing her wrist that is within her right, her kid was in the hospital after all and that is scary. however, where she was absolutely just objectively in the wrong is where she went ballistic at luke who’s supposed to be her best friend when he got the tiniest bit concerned over his nephew’s whereabouts after he had also been in that car accident. her screaming at him that he had more of an obligation to herself and her kid than the kid he’s literally in responsible for? this is just one of those situations where i feel like she wasn’t being an adult. it would have been understandable for like lane to barge into luke’s and yell jess’ name and scream that he should never have been allowed in this town but lorelai is 33.
part 2 soon?

thats the thing i relete to paris more. i aslo hurt people for stupid reasons when im hurt while being pretty aware of it and being aware that its stupid
eeegahhhhehhhhggggg i need to be put in a blender without blades/x2
dont put yourself in a blender !!! you have to forgive yourself !!!! you have to change !!!!
i mean i relate to both of them and i think they are a reflection of how different people respond to trauma. paris makes a point towards lorelai that neither him nor delta have any choice in their circumstances but she only sympathizes with delta because delta is more of a perfect victim. and there are kind of ARE merits to that and paris is very clearly hurt by the fact no one seems to have any empathy or understanding for his situation and resents that he has to play the villain. but its also like. thats still not an acceptable thing to take out on delta or to take out on anyone else. i think its very clear where he’s coming from and what he feels he needs to do to be secure. but like. dude you cant be acting like that.
i love my son.

I just saw someone say "Rory didn't appreciate Luke enough" 🙄 Rory ALWAYS appreciated Luke! Yes she did she always appreciated Luke! When Lorelai slept with Christopher she got upset with her mom, because she cares about Luke. When Jess was making Luke's life harder Rory stood up for him and then Jess fixed the toaster. When Emily broke up Luke and Lorelai Rory froze out Emily too, because what she did hurt her and her mom. When Luke and Christopher saw Rory and Logan hooking up at Emily and Richards vowel renewal she only cared about how Luke saw her because he looked mad and didn't even care that Christopher was mad. When Luke and Lorelai got together she told Christopher to stay away from Lorelai because she truly cared about Luke! Rory definitely did appreciate Luke, she cared so much for Luke, and stands up for him in many different instances even to the people she loves in her life she will stand up for Luke if she feels they have hurt Luke. I don't understand why people always have to villainize Rory for everything!

Is he aroace?

Reasoning: In canon, three people have had very obvious romantic crushes towards him, to which he's been oblivious to all three. In Prison of Plastic, Lorelai - one of the people who like giovanni - asks if he's single, to which he replies with something along the lines of "nah I got like 7 minions!" (talking about his evil villain group)
