8.18.20 • Goodbye, little lord. We love you forever.

The lilies we planted are called Sweet Innocence, and as hostas represent friendship and devotion in the language of flowers. We also planted hen and chicks amid the rocks, because we always used to say that we are Korilakkuma, Rilakkuma, and Kiiroitori (the white and brown San-X bears that hang out with the little bird). We plan to get the rock engraved but until then this is his temporary headstone. Rest in peace, Cec. 🦔💜

8.13.20 • Lord Cecil Chronic, first of his name, has left this Earth. He passed peacefully in his sleep without any decline, pain, or suffering, and was well cared for and loved until the end. Today is the anniversary of the very first day I ever met him-- this is the picture from that day. He was so small and sweet and bossy and I loved him so much. I will never forget him.

8.21.19 • Hedgehog update: we went back to the vet last night and our Lord Cecil has gained 7% bodymass!! His weird rash symptoms have cleared up, and he's starting to play at night with that natural riotous hedgehog joy again!! So, the news is good. It's hopefully only increased health and happiness for our fella from here.

(He looks a bit reserved and proper with his side-eye so strong, but I assure you, internally, he is planning glorious mayhem. 🦔🎉)

11.24.19 • This will be our last week living with Lord Cecil because of our upcoming move. Hedgehogs are illegal in California, and travelling in a small car with us and all of our belongings in midwinter cross-country would not be enjoyable for this small man anyway. We have found him a lovely new home. It's heartbreaking that we have to give him up, but I am glad that we can do what is in his best interests. We really agonized over this decision, so it's a huge relief that we finally have a solution that we can feel good about. Now, to spoil him relentlessly and love him up for one final week!! I'm cooking him chicken right now.
