Crested Fireback (Lophura ignita)
taken at the LA zoo in Los Angeles, California
status: near threatened
The male of this species! Much like Peafowl, the males are bright and colorful in a very showy way while females are a more camouflaged dull brown.

Creature Awaits #208
Each week I plan to feature an amazing creature, admiring God's fantastic artistry. Hopefully it’ll brighten someone’s day to see something new and interesting if they haven’t seen it before. : )
This month, we're featuring beautiful animals in silvery shades!

The Silver Pheasant
Scientific Name: Lophura nycthemera
Region: Primarily mountain ranges across Southeast Asia, though also with introduced populations elsewhere
Size: About 22"-49" (55cm-125cm), including their long tails, with females tending to be much smaller than males
Interesting Notes: This elegant pheasant, long lauded in their local art and poetry, is named "baixian" in China. This combines the word "bai" meaning "white" with "xian" meaning "graceful bird."

The Majestic Silver Pheasant in Flight! 🕊️
This stunning image captures a silver pheasant (Lophura nycthemera) mid-flight, showcasing its dazzling white plumage against the dark backdrop.
The intricate patterns on its feathers and the graceful spread of its wings make it look almost like a work of art in motion. Truly a sight to behold! 😍
