Lol Tolhurst x Budgie x Jacknife Lee haben ihr gemeinsames Album "Los Angeles" angekündigt, das am 3. November über Play It Again Sam erscheinen wird. Zwei der berühmtesten und einfallsreichsten Schlagzeuger der Post-Punk-Ära, Lol Tolhurst von The Cure und Budgie von Siouxsie & The Banshees und The Creatures, haben zusammen mit dem Starproduzenten und Multiinstrumentalisten Garret 'Jacknife' Lee (u.a. Taylor Swift, U2 und The Killers) die letzten vier Jahre damit verbracht, eines der außergewöhnlichsten Alben des Jahres 2023 zu entwickeln. “Lol is very levelling”, erzählt Budgie über die intensiven kreativen Sessions. “He calls himself a pragmatist, whereas I’m very impetuous, and it was like Garret was bridging the two, in his consultation room.” Wie der Titel schon sagt, ist "Los Angeles" eine Reise in das dunkle Herz des zeitgenössischen LaLaLands, ein Ort der grenzenlosen Möglichkeiten, aber auch eine kranke und verzehrende Welt, in der Träume platzen - und die, Zitat James Murphys im Titeltrack, "ihre Kinder frisst".

Wenn man sich die Tracklist ansieht, auf der unter anderem James Murphy von LCD Soundsystem, Bobby Gillespie von Primal Scream, The Edge, Lonnie Holley, Mary Lattimore, Starcrawler-Sängerin Arrow de Wilde und Mark Bowen von IDLES auftauchen, fragt man sich zu Recht, was der 13-Track-Longplayer alles zu bieten haben wird. Die Antwort: ein knallharter und zwanghaft forschender, 55-minütiger elektronischer Ritt, mit einem Arsenal an Synthesizern, Gitarren und peitschenden Drums, oft überlagert von Streichern und Bläsern der Spitzenklasse, die von Lee verdreht und geformt werden. Getreu der eigentlich Absicht sind vier Tracks auch als Instrumentalstücke erhalten geblieben, jedes davon unberechenbar, beunruhigend und doch wunderschön.
